Fated To Love You: Episode 12
by HeadsNo2
If you thought that yesterday’s episode was brutal, then gird your loins for what comes next, which can best be described as a lot. A lot of pain, a lot of blame, and a lot of noble idiocy—and if you’re thinking to yourself that maybe this specific brand of noble idiocy will be different, you’d be right: It’s so much worse. Noble idiocy has been responsible for some of dramaland’s lowest lows, but never has it wreaked quite so much havoc and tragedy. But hey, that’s what communal commiseration is for, right? *hands out tissue boxes*

EPISODE 12 RECAP
Gun, having regained his memories, stops in front of Mom’s restaurant to see Mi-young with a young infant in her arms. Rest assured, we haven’t undergone amnesia and a time skip—it’s her unni’s newborn baby.
Instead of getting out, he drives straight to Doctor Moon to ask if his fainting and memory loss means he’s contracted his family’s long-running genetic disease. Doctor Moon sighs that it’s possible, since the symptoms Gun is experiencing now are similar to what his father suffered around his age.
With tears in his eyes, Gun realizes that he’ll be no different than his father, his grandfather, his great-grandfather, and so on in dying in his thirties. He rails on Doctor Moon when he urges him not to worry: “How can I not worry? My grandmother, our Mi-young and Keddongie… My family, the people I have to protect. How can I not be worried?!”
While meeting with Mi-young to finally give her the cup she made for Gun, Daniel asks what she’ll do if Gun’s memory doesn’t come back. Mi-young, optimistic as always, says she doesn’t want to think of the worst: “I’ll trust him and wait.”
But when realtors come knocking, Mi-young asks Daniel if he’s selling the cafe. He says he is, and that he’s leaving for France next month. Even Mi-young acknowledges how sudden it is, which I guess means that Daniel took that friend-zoning business pretty hard. (Still, you don’t make a declaration like that and not try. Come on, Daniel!)
Mi-young attends the next and final prenatal class alone, which entails writing a letter for the baby to read when he’s old enough. It’s both sad and cute how Mi-young spares one glance to the doorway, as if hoping that Gun would magically appear like he always used to do.
So Mi-young decides to write Keddongie a letter from Gun, and has a little bit of fun trying to mimic Gun’s low tone of voice…
…But then the sound of mad cackling comes from the doorway. It’s Gun!! I never thought I’d be so happy to hear that insane laugh, and neither does Mi-young. He laughs all the way to his spot next to his wife, where he says that—despite his brain issues—he wouldn’t start his letter the way she was writing it. Hah.
I’m not quite sure if he’s completely back, or if they’re both just glossing over the amnesia episode, but he tells her to write his letter to Keddongie while he dictates.
At first, he starts talking about how beautiful and wonderful life is, but then derails to a more realistic approach. What was supposed to be a light letter turns into a survival guide, which Gun defends as being necessary when Mi-young mentions that he might be taking this a little too seriously.
When they stop to eat Mi-young’s favorite pungent fish snack, it seems like Gun doesn’t remember everything(?), since Mi-young reminds him that he had to stuff his nose with tissues to avoid the smell the first time he came with her.
He doesn’t believe her, but Mi-young insists that he did all sorts of things he wouldn’t have imagined himself doing, whether it was running from a dog like a crazy man or rapping for her mother. “You were such a fun person… and a very good husband,” she adds. “You always made me laugh.”
“I never caused you any heartache or made you cry… not even once?” he asks disbelievingly. Mi-young: “No, you didn’t. Not even once.” Gun shakes his head when he says that she’s too nice sometimes, only for Mi-young to admit with a small smile that he wasn’t always a saint.
But thanks to him, she says, she went from being a post-it girl to superglue, like a princess in a fairytale. “But, Kim Mi-young-sshi, I can’t always be by your side. In the end, we’ll have to part ways,” he says.
He’s referencing his death, which I don’t think Mi-young catches on to, even as she says that she’s working hard to become a source of strength for him. “I want you to be able to rely on me the way I was able to rely on you in case you get your memory back, so that we can be together.”
She finally gets to hand him the birthday present he wanted: his Gunnie Cup. Gun has to fight the tears that immediately spring to his eyes, because he doesn’t want Mi-young to know why he’s struggling.
Manager Tak goes to Gun with a plan to help lift Mi-young’s spirits while Gun is still an amnesiac… only for him to realize that Gun’s memories are back, all of them.
But Gun stops him before he can call Mi-young with the good news, because he doesn’t want her to know. He’s trying to spare her from the pain she’ll suffer because of his genetic disease. Ugh. I get it, but still. Noble Idiocy is to Amnesia what Denny’s is to La Quinta.
Gun meets with Se-ra for one reason only: “Let’s break up.” She immediately pins the blame on Mi-young, only for Gun to say that he’ll end things with her, too. As he apologizes numbly to Se-ra for wasting the precious six years they had together, she breaks down into tears.
“It’ all because of Kim Mi-young. If it wasn’t for her, none of this would have happened. I hate it. I never thought… that I’d have to live without seeing you,” Se-ra cries. Gun’s face remains motionless.
While quitting his DJ job for his impending trip to France, Daniel recognizes Se-ra drinking at the bar. He advises her not to do things that’ll hurt other people just because she’s been hurt, and while she thanks him for the advice, she won’t take it: She’s lost everything, which means there’s only one thing left for her.
We finally find out what was in the second divorce agreement Gun made when he visits Lawyer Hong, which is actually more like a love pact: In it, Gun gave all the power to Mi-young to decide when and if they’d ever divorce, that he’d have to provide for her if they did, and that they’d raise the baby together.
Gun decides to void both the original divorce agreement and the newer one—now his conditions are that Mi-young will have parental rights when it comes to the baby, and that she’ll be compensated after the divorce.
But here’s the kicker, and the whole reason why Gun is doing all of this: In the event he were to die, everything he owns would go to Mi-young and the baby. Lawyer Hong notes that this sounds more like a last will and testament than a divorce agreement, and Gun doesn’t disagree.
Se-ra calls Mi-young for a meeting, which we know isn’t going to end well. Se-ra acts like she’s in the know when Mi-young isn’t, and asks whether she knew that Gun plans to end things with her. Mi-young says she didn’t, but can’t see how he’d say something like that…
“Why do you think he can’t remember his own marriage?” Se-ra fires back. “It’s because he wants to forget it. He wants to erase it from his memory.” She also claims he changed the divorce agreement, and slides the new document over to her. Se-ra, what dafaq is wrong with you?
Of course, the divorce agreement Se-ra hands to her is completely fabricated, and states that Mi-young will be given compensation after the divorce, say nothing to the media, and give the baby to Gun. “He wants you to hand over the baby and end it,” Se-ra adds coldly.
Mi-young leaves the cafe in utter disbelief, and only worries more when Gun calls her to meet with him because he has something to say. Ohhh no. This is bad. This is baaad.
Gun notes Mi-young’s troubled expression, but doesn’t pay it much attention as he hands over a box. She opens it to find Keddongie’s Cup inside, which, ouch. Gun says he’s giving it to her because it doesn’t suit the home’s decor. What is going on, seriously?
“Your role as the daughter-in-law of my household and my wife is over starting from today,” Gun says. “Leave. If you’re unsure because of the baby, I’ll give up my parental rights.” He finishes by placing his wedding band on the table.
Now, the words Se-ra said that Mi-young didn’t want to believe come back to haunt her. She tells him that she didn’t think it was possible when she heard that he lost his memory because he wanted to forget about their marriage.
Mi-young: “I must have made a grave misunderstanding. When I heard that the reason you lost your memory was because you wanted to erase me from your subconscious, I thought that would never be the case. Even if you forget your memories of me, I believed that you wouldn’t forget how precious a person you are to the baby. I thought that you would never do that. It’s always like this. Imagining things on my own like a fool, trusting people like a fool, depending on people… like a fool. It was going to be like this in the end.”
As she flashes back to the moments where Gun literally swept her off her feet, she says how foolish she was to ever have expected anything. But Gun interrupts her to coldly ask if she assumed she’d be understood just because she acts so innocent.
“Did I not say before that no matter who it is, there isn’t anyone who will stay with you forever?” he asks. “This is a world where you live and fight alone.” He then asks how she’ll manage to fight all on her own if she stays hung up on the three meager months they’ve been together—and with a child, no less.
At least Mi-young stands up for herself, however meekly, when she tells him that he doesn’t have to be so harsh. (For REAL. He is being the worst.) “I’ve already decided,” she says with unshed tears in her eyes, “Let’s break up.”
I can’t even be happy that Gun at least has the good grace to walk her out, because his words seem empty when he tells her that he hopes she’ll be happy wherever she goes. Though she smiles, her words are heartbreaking as she wonders whether there’s any happiness left for her when she’s already experienced all the happiness she could possibly have dreamt of.
“The things that I could never imagine in this world came true after I met you. Bad things became good things, and I became a family with someone I love.” Gun is still resolute and unmoved, as he tells her not to look back at what’s passed, only forward.
She puts on a smile as she says she’ll take his advice—it’s not like they’ll see each other again anyway, right? After she turns to leave, Gun calls after her with one last piece of advice—it’s the same advice he gave her in Macau when they parted, about not being too nice and to be more confident.
As Mi-young crosses the street, her steps slow as everything hits her all at once. But then she remembers Gun at the prenatal class, saying he wants to do his job as a father, as well as when he said those exact same words to her in Macau… and realizes that he has his memory back.
She turns back around and calls his name repeatedly, and while Gun hears her, he convinces himself not to look back. “Gun!” she cries behind him. “Gun!”
Then, behind him, a car slams on its brakes…
…Right before it collides into Mi-young. The Keddongie Cup shatters on the ground as she falls, and Gun turns around slowly, disbelievingly… Oh god. Oh god oh god oh god. Oh god, no no no.
Gun is a mess as Mi-young is rushed to the hospital, as he begs the doctors to save her with tears in his eyes. “Is this your wife?” one of the doctors asks. “Yes, she’s my wife!” Gun cries. “She’s my wife!”
Mi-young comes to, but her first thought is for her baby as her hand clutches her stomach: “What about… what about my baby? My baby… is it okay? Our Keddongie,” she sobs. “Save my baby! Please save my baby… please… please…”
Gun tries to comfort her, but she’s gone into hysterics, and can barely murmur his name and Keddongie’s before she suddenly falls unconscious. The doctors swarm around her and pull a frantically crying Gun away. (I’ve had to take way too many tissue breaks already. No more, please.)
Doctor Moon tells Gun that Mi-young will need surgery in order to live—but the surgery will endanger the baby. In this case, he can only choose one or the other: Will it be Mi-young or Keddongie?
After Gun sinks down in despair, we find Mi-young in surgery, which means Gun has made his choice. He keeps vigil outside the operating room as he thinks back to her saying she was unsure if there was any happiness left for her. Because the biggest source of happiness in her life turned his back on her—that’s you, Gun. I hope you realize that.
Mi-young wakes in a hospital room with Gun sitting by her bedside. “What about our baby?” is the first question she whispers. Gun doesn’t answer as he helps her to sit up. “Our baby… is doing well, right?” Silence. “Why don’t you answer? Our baby is okay, right?”
Gun lets out a long sound, halfway between a sigh and a cry: “Keddongie… Keddongie isn’t here.”
Mi-young can’t believe it, won’t believe it. “Keddongie’s gone,” Gun reiterates, “I told him to go.” (Meaning that he chose Mi-young over him.) Mi-young grows more frantic as she asks him why, WHY when she told him to save Keddongie—why, when she told him she didn’t care what happened to her.
“How can I live now that Keddongie is dead?” she wails. “Please bring him back… Please bring Keddongie back! Bring him back!” She devolves into incoherent sobs as Gun tries to hold her and comfort her, but it’s no use.
Mom and Grandma Wang come in just then, only for Mi-young to eke between her sobs that Keddongie is gone. He’s gone. God, this scene is horrible to watch. It’s just horrible.
After admitting to Grandma Wang that it was all his fault outside, Gun returns to Mi-young’s room to find her asleep. He can only hold her hand as he apologizes with shaking shoulders, before he breaks down completely.
Gun pays a visit to the remains of his parents, addressing his mother first as he tells her about the strange woman he came to like—as strange as his mother was. “I don’t know how she can endure this with such a frail and petite body. I want to hold her tight, but I don’t think I should. You know, right, Mom?”
He’s much more formal when addressing his father, as he asks whether he also became afraid that he’d lose his memory. He tells his father that he found a girl he really likes and wants to be with, but he’s afraid he’ll lose her, and can’t bring himself to ask her to stay. Okay, but, why?
Daniel visits Mi-young at the hospital, even if he’s not sure how to console her. She ends up consoling him instead by saying there’s no need to comfort her—this was all her fault.
When he says it was just an accident, Mi-young explains why that’s just an excuse, and why she won’t use any now. “It’s my fault that I lost the baby.” At least Daniel lifts her spirits when he gives her a box full of art supplies, since he knows painting and drawing makes her happy.
While Mi-young sleeps inside next to a drawing of Keddongie with angel wings, Gun hangs her heart-shaped lollipop on the doorknob. “You said that people who like sweet things want to be happy. If there’s a little happiness left in my life, I’ll give all of that to you. You have to be happy, Mi-young.” And then he leaves.
After getting discharged and moving in with ex-roomie Ji-yeon, Mi-young pays a visit to Gun in his office. She cuts the small talk and gets right to the point: “Why did you lie? You could have told me you got your memories back. Was I too much of a burden for you to do even that?”
Even though Gun’s reaction is still cold and not really much of an explanation, Mi-young says this’ll be the last time she asks him a foolish question:“Is it possible to forget everything and start over? The time was short, but like before… can’t you stay by my side?”
Gun actually looks her in the eyes as he rejects her with an “I’m sorry.” Seriously, Gun? Seriously.
She passes over the divorce papers Se-ra gave her, along with her ring. He tries blaming himself, only for Mi-young to reply that it was no one’s fault—they were wrong from the beginning.
Mi-young packs her things from Lee Manor, but breaks down into pitiful sobs when she finds Keddongie’s diary. “I’m sorry,” she cries.
After a silent farewell hug with Grandma, Mi-young stops by Daniel’s cafe on her way out, looking especially glum when he says he’ll be leaving for France the day after tomorrow. He tries to lighten the mood by asking if she’s sad to break up with the best neighborhood oppa ever. (Kiind of feel like you haven’t been the best neighborhood oppa lately though.)
However, he hands her a brochure for an art school in Paris, and tells her to consider it seriously. He’ll do whatever he can to help, but urges her to take this chance to make a change in her life.
After taking a long look at his now-sparse bedroom, Gun unlocks the door to his man cave, where he’s kept Keddongie’s crib and toys, and sits beside them for a while.
Mom gives Gun the money he gave them for the restaurant now that she’s sold it, which effectively ends the ties between them. But Mom still comforts him when she calls him “Gun-ah” and says that he and Mi-young did all they could—it just wasn’t meant to be.
Even though Gun uses the more formal “Mother” instead of “Mom” when he asks if he can see Mi-young for the last time, his face falls when Mom tells him that Mi-young left overseas to start anew. She tells Gun to do the same.
As Mi-young walks through the airport with Daniel, she flashes back to all her fond memories with Gun as she thinks to herself, “There was a time I was greedy over something that could never happen: I wanted to be a kind wife who would take your jacket off and hang it, make you a delicious dinner while you rested, and talk about our days at the dinner table with you. I wanted to lay my head on your arm and wish you good night. It would have been nice if you and I were fated… but you said this once: That if we met in better circumstances, we would have been destined to be together.”
She’s unaware that Gun is running through the airport looking desperately for her and calling her name. Her inner monologue continues, “If it hurts this much, then it means we weren’t fated to be. If by chance we were to meet each other again, let’s pretend not to know each other.”
Gun is just a few steps too late, and misses Mi-young as she disappears through customs. Mi-young: “Gunnie-sshi, take care.” Gun just cries, “Dalpeng-ah!!”
Three years later.
A much different, fashionably-styled Mi-young walks through the Seoul airport. She passes Gun (also sporting a new ‘do) without recognizing him, but he turns around. Something about her struck him as familiar…
But he’s called away by Manager Tak just as Mi-young greets Daniel with a wide smile.
COMMENTS
I never thought I’d say this, but I liked it better when Gun had amnesia. Even if that didn’t really excuse his harshness to Mi-young, it at least lifted some of the burden of responsibility from him because he wasn’t fully himself. It was easier to forgive him and wait, just the way Mi-young did, for him to come back around—because she/we trusted him.
But when he did regain his memories, he so brutally betrayed Mi-young’s trust that I’m still left reeling, even with all the other events from this (admittedly very dense) episode. It all started from that betrayal, and while accidents are accidents and there’s nothing Gun could have physically done to prevent what happened to Mi-young, out of everyone playing the blame game, Gun actually won. Because I lost my ability to understand him this episode.
If I got the basic gist right, which is maybe the only thing I feel remotely confident about, Gun’s thought process went as such: 1) He knew there was a high chance he’d lose his memories again, 2) He knew that there was a high likelihood he’d die young like every son in his family, therefore 3) The only way to save Mi-young from the irrevocable pain of losing him later was to heap all that irrevocable pain on her now.
I don’t get it. I really, really don’t. I tried. Even if I vaguely understood the basic idea driving Gun’s noble idiocy (saving Mi-young), I don’t at all see how it worked in practice. More than that, I don’t see how Gun thought his tactic was working when he had an ample opportunities to see how much he was hurting Mi-young. Even when he was being his coldest toward her, did it not once cross his mind that inflicting pain upon her intentionally to spare her the pain he’d later inflict unintentionally was not only counterintuitive, but incredibly cruel?
But fine, let’s say he did enough mental gymnastics to convince himself that what he was doing was right, and that it’d take real emotional jolt to bring him back to his senses. Was losing Keddongie not enough? That didn’t earn Mi-young even an ounce of pity from him when it came to peeling her away from his life like a barnacle? Granted, we can argue how much we know Gun was hurting inside, and that he only became more determined to try to save her after losing Keddongie. But it’s not like Mi-young misunderstood him, or even blamed him for choosing her over the baby—she went to him, point-blank, and asked if they could start fresh. And he said no.
So when faced with his wife who’d just lost their baby, who clearly loved him and wanted to be with him, he still thought it’d be somehow better for her to live thinking that he never loved her? I just don’t understand. My heart broke for Mi-young a million times over, because she was surrounded by people yet alone in her suffering. But to be abandoned by Gun when she needed him most was just so beyond my level of comprehension that as of now, she’s achieved sainthood and deserves only the best in life. Gun, on the other hand, is going to need a miracle and a week in time out.

Not saying noble idiocy is good, but caring for a patient with Neuro degenerative disorders is really a nerve wrecking mean feat. For heart wrenching examples, please watch "closer to heaven" with ha ji-won and "moment to remember" with son ye jin.

I hope they don't plan to include his family disorder into the plot... That's just too much for a romantic comedy.. I hope It's a wrong diagnosis

Sad to see quite the amount of choler in some comments, and also HeadsNo2's recap.
This episode was undoubtedly heart-breaking, and also chock-full of cliches, but to me, it was definitely well-delivered and supported by compelling back-stories.
To put simply, it was as clear as daylight to me, the reasons why Gun did what he did and what he felt he had to do!!
I don't know about the rest of you, but this episode was PERFECT. The only thing I hated about it was the 3 year time skip?! How do affections not change over a 3 year period?? And I'm totally not getting the second-lead syndrome. Daniel is a total nosy parker.

I'm so glad I'm finally reading someone who actually understood Gun and his intentions the way I did - I mean, FINALLY AND THANK YOU.
It was a bit frustrating reading this recap and seeing that most of the first comments were agreeing with the idea that Gun was a cold heartbreaker idiot who wasn't feeling a thing while breaking up with our Snail, because, to me, it feels like no one was actually REALLY looking at his eyes, those wonderfully expressive eyes that told us so much while trying to hide all the feels from Kim Mi Young! I really want to persuade some people in here into re-watching the episode, because I find it so unfair to Gun and Jang Hyuk himself who did such a masterly job at showing so much with the utmost subtletly - he didn't want Mi Young know he was hurting inside but, like a real person with real feelings, his face would break down everytime she wasn't looking.
God, although it was incredibly sad to see our Snail fall with the cup after the accident, what made the scene, what really made the scene for me was Gun turn around... I'm hurting now just remembering the extreme panic, fear and sadness in his motion T___T
I cried for about 97% of the episode and I loved it (the episode, not the crying, eh), it was so beautifully executed, the lead actors, the camera angles, the OST, everything worked so perfectly, I can see myself watching this again just for it.
That said, I can't say I'm that excited for their new selves, being that I loved them just the way they were, cute and a little weird.
Let's see what next week's episode will bring!

YESS!! GIVE ME A FIVE! I mean, reading the first few comments only made me more miserable after watching an already gutting episode!
I came here to commiserate over the tragic circumstances that episode 12 laid bare to us, and how heart-wrenching it was for both Gun and MY, but was instead greeted by SO MUCH HATE ON NOBLE IDIOCY. Total bummer!
And so I absolutely agree with you, on how Gun's pain was so superbly crafted into every scene -- I'm surprised so many seemed to have missed it, and so many seemed to have discounted the links which were made between Gun and his father in the way their diseases wreaked their families.
Again, I share the same feels with you about their future selves. They look settled and at peace with their lives, but I won't want to see them lose their queer but unique and lovable charms.
I think people need to realize that despite 'noble idiocy' being a hackneyed plot device, it is not always bad. In fact I would consider a 'necessary evil' in some cases. y'know, it pushes the plot forward and gives the resolution a bigger bang :)

I watched the ep during my lunch break yesterday, which was such a bad idea since I cried and cried and then couldn't focus on my work for the rest of the day. I still can't focus, obviously, since I'm on here reading this instead of working! :)
Things that were particularly beautiful/heartbreaking:
- The slow-mo camera work at the moment of MY's accident. The camera's turning, LG is turning, and there is silence. It was perfect.
- LG fighting with his face at the moment MY gave him the birthday mug.
- During their final conversation, MY looking totally normal: neat clothing and hair, but her face drawn and pale, the light gone from her eyes.
On a totally superficial note, JANG HYUK WITH THE SHORT HAIR! So hot!

Because of all the pain and amnesia and noble idiocy, I could only read recaps of this weeks eps. I cannot watch them. But I'd like to say this, Show, there is a perfectly good genetic test for Huntington's Disease so there is no reason for Gun to be so in the dark about it. Seriously!

This drama... brought me back from the dead and resurrected me from almost two years of k-drama stupor. Hello addiction - I sorely missed you!
FTLY proves that any drama cliche CAN still work if used intelligently and executed with heart. This show has a HUGE heart. LG and MY have so much love for each other, which they shared with us and we saw in so many episodes and we FELT , yes right here *points to heart.
That is why this episode hurt. It effing HURT! but yeah, it hurt so good.

I think that i understand the noble idiocy trope better here than in the original.
At least here it was clearly established that the disease is a major part of the story from the beginning and that Gun was afraid of it because aside from being genetic, it was worst of all degenerative (Huntingtons).Unlike in the original wherein the disease just sprang out suddenly from out of the blue towards the ending and wherein the audience don't even know why the male lead suddenly has amnesia therefore coming across as unnecessary, cheesy, slapsticky and very, very cliched.
In this version, i had a better understanding and deeper sympathy for Gun about wanting to cut Mi young loose when he believed that he was dying because even when he was still hating on Mi Young in the beginning, we already got a glimpse of how scared he was of contracting the disease that killed his family.
In this episode, I somehow got the feeling from the visiting his parents scene that his fear has probably stemmed from watching firsthand the painful effects wrought about by the disease not just to his dad but also to his mom as she watched her husband waste away and he probably doesn't want Mi Young to suffer the same while taking care of him (Read a little bit on the disease and i learnt that Huntingtons patients become ill tempered 75% of the time and that must have put a terrible strain on his mom and dads relationship).
So here, i believe that the noble idiocy is still idiotic, but i don't hate the trope as much because i understand where Gun is coming from (childhood trauma).
I understand how Gun still has mi young's best interest at heart (despite the meanness in making mi young leave which might be a little harsh but we all know how optimistic miyoung is, that THIS is the only way to make her give up) and how it was not the dying part he was afraid of but rather how if he is selfish he can still commit to mi young and they'd be happy for a short while but then make her life hell later on as she suffers from the effects of his sickness as she takes care of him and as she watches him slowly dying.

It didn't if I remember correctly. The male lead faked an illness for attention near the end. He did get hurt though, he just pretended he was more hurt than he was so she'd coddle him if I remember correctly. It was silly and slapstick, but nothing like how it's used here.

@donnapie .. lol.. what nonsense are you spouting about the original? There's NO amnesia in the original and NO genetic disease involved in the plotline either. FYI, no noble idiocy either so you can save your time googling for the TW plot. Try again with your pseudo analysis next time when you get your facts right.

This is one heck of an episode. But I loved the previous episode more!
The amnesia trope in the previous ep was executed quite wondrously. But soon came Noble Idiocy and wrecked havoc upon everyone who has a fully-functioning heart. I DON'T UNDERSTAND, LG. You could spend your "remaining days" with MY, enjoying the warmth and feeling of being in love. And yet, you chose the hurt-now-so-she-won't-get-hurt-later route. C'mon!
Maybe you haven't fully recovered from all the head trauma. Change doctors if you have to! (Nah. I love Dr. Moon) HAHA.
At least, the rift between the lovers were not caused by some sort of misunderstanding. I do hope the writers redeem themselves in the next episode.
Jang Na Ra's acting felt so raw and extra painful that I had to clutch my chest while tears were streaming endlessly from my eyes. Jang Hyuk's on the other hand, was also marvelous. His near-tears scenes were heartbreaking. DAMMIT.
I can't wait for next week! Drama Gods, please make next week's episode fabulous! Thank you.

1) ranting about noble idiocy
2) sobbing over Keddongie
3) raving over the new hairs
This drama has my heart in the blender right now. I think the writers have us right where they want us. With what they have done so far I trust them to finish well. (Unlike the Drama-that-shall-not-be-named; I'm talking to you DS.)

I don't usually post, but I feel like I need a support group after this episode! Even my 12 year-old son, who doesn't watch kdramas with me, came in at the emergency room scene and was mesmerized. By the end, I was a mess and he was telling me to be patient for next week! LOL
Objectively, WONDERFULLY executed episode. Subjectively, I feel like I have just suffered a heartbreak of tequila-and-down-comforter proportions.

So, having witnessed a good friend of mine in deal with his grandfather who suffered with Alzheimer's ... it was tough even from being just a good friend, watching his grandfather deteriorate over 6 years from friendly and fun to complete and total near infancy dependency.
I think it's been stated multiple times, that the "by-the-numbers" tropes have been handled pretty flawless here. In Gun's cases, I think it is completely logical and rational to want to shield the ones you love from having to deal with you're inevitable degeneration. Why would you want your loved ones to have to suffer through that?
I for one wouldn't ... but that said ... I for one would not hesitate to suffer through that for someone I loved ... which I think if Gun were to be open and honest with Mi-Young, she'd not even blink an eye at the prospect before jumping right in.
In the end, I think the "Noble Idiocy" is in thinking that we all should suffer alone without considering that being apart, is even worse for the other party.

It's interesting -- I think if he did come clean with her and told her honestly that the next ten years of her life would be hell and then he would die, she would still stick with him, which is what he doesn't want. He's already telling her to be strong on her own, and live her own life. That's what he wants for her, instead of "wasting" 15 years watching your husband deteriorate.
That's why he wasn't honest with her. Better to be cruel and maybe she'll get a longer, happier life with ol' Mr. Pitt. Although we'll see the truth of the matter next week.... (not a spoiler or anything, I'm sure what they show isn't always exactly as it seems ..)

It's sad bc I think Gun assumed Mi Young would wait for him as in patiently giving him time and space to figure out his emotional hurdle with being sick like she usually do. Gun made the same mistake as SeRa thinking the person they love would always be there hence the frantic running after her in the airport

Wow I haven't seen this many comments in such a short amount of time for a while now. Love it or hate it, this episode got a lot of people talking. Although I don't agree with some, this episode I felt was really well done. It's the harshest part of the series thus far. JN and JH did a great job. Although Gun was brutal with MY, I get why he did it even though I don't agree with it. It was a nice change from other dramas that MY didn't blame Gun for the accident and it wasn't the reason that they ultimately separated. The 3 years gap was a nice touch and sets up the final arc of the series.

Thank you Heads, as always, for the recap. I get the feeling that there was a lot of gnashing of teeth and girding of loins involved in recapping this episode so your efforts are much appreciated!
And so many insightful and well argued comments - they make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to be a member of the Dramabeans community, albeit mostly in lurker mode.
So now that the past two episodes have been discussed to the max and the dust has settled, what comes next?
The thing is, Gun sent MY away because he feared that the symptoms of Huntington's disease had begun. Anyone who has access to Google knows that it's possible to test for the gene and the writers have been quite smart so I think we can assume Gun knows he has the gene. Then the problem becomes if/when the symptoms will present themselves. Gun looked quite healthy in the last scene so the amnesia appears to have been a false alarm. But that doesn't mean that Gun should now feel free to start afresh with MY since, as another commenter mentioned earlier, NOTHING HAS CHANGED when it comes to Gun's concerns about the illness.
For me at least, it would only make narrative sense for MY to find out about Gun’s illness and his noble idiocy, slap some sense into him regarding the latter, tell him she doesn’t care, and then pursue him with the tenaciousness that we caught a glimpse of in the dog running scene.
Given that the writers did so well with the amnesia trope, I have faith that they will do even better with the noble idiocy trope (which I totally get, as well).
Gun just cannot start chasing MY – that would just be the worst kind of idiocy – so I’m looking forward to MY doing the chasing and Gun becoming the shy virgin, going all “oh no we mustn’t” while getting blue balls.
So please don’t let me down drama. *whimpers*

After 3 years in Paris, I think she definitely changed her persona and has a new "je ne sais quoi" (pleaseant quality hard to describe) about her. Hi Dukdam.. very interesting insights you have there and I got more interested in your prediction on the trajectory of the story from episode 13 onwards.
First, I agree with JUNA that the amnesia was caused by his getting hit at the head in multiple occasions, specifically when he blacked out on the street. I felt my head hurt, too even just watching that scene.
Episode 12 ended with a surprise.. A big shock for all of us, yet in the grandest of ways as they usher in FTLY ACT 2.
The noble idiocy trope would be focal point of the story I agree with you on that. And seeing MY 2.0 walking the walk in a femme fatale way (subtly see-through blouse complimented with a multiple layered, double side-slit fitting skirt) it spelled COME AND GET ME GUN-i sshi to me. So I think I'll agree with you on that aspect..
The previously meek and prim country girl has returned from an "overhaul camp" in France.. She is now like a princess from the movies.. Princess Diaries style..
On the other hand, LG 2.0 exudes refined manliness with temperament. Also, with a feeling of guilt pushing his love away, would be hesitant to do the first move though he is burning with desire for MY 2.0
With their physical and personality changes, Fate would step in and stir another round of funny yet heartfelt encounters for the 'destined lovers' resolving any issues at hand specifically that noble idiocy for a VERY HAPPY ENDING for all of us.

Hi, I have been reading the recaps and enjoyed so much. I think writers were giving some clues that this amnesia thing is Not caused by his disease from very early on. Remember Gun's over action scene in the hopital to stop MY from getting abortion. He hit his head a few times. And just before his collapse, he hit his head again while coming out of the house to meet MY to avoid reporters and collapse itself.
I won't be surprised if they use this(not terrible genetic disease but separate episode caused brain damage) as Gun's reason for pursuing MY again. Because if he does have genetic disease, he is not suitable leading male character of the romantic comedy.
This guess is purely based on my observation. So don't be mad if it is not what actually happens in the coming episode.
Another thing, I am quite surprised at how different overseas reaction to Gun's decision to Korean ones. I see hardly any comment about questioning Gun's decision in Korean cite. Maybe it is cultural thing like some have pointed out here. Anyway, I am so into this drama and loving reading all the comments regarding both within Korea and overseas.

Hey Korean dramas, I got a novel solution for you--it's called BEING HONEST. I think I hate the noble idiocy trope more than the amnesia trope because of the fact that it's always absolute idiocy. I feel like the writers aren't even TRYING to make noble idiots' decisions make any sense. Why can't the writers have their characters either just tell the truth and stop keeping secrets to spare their loved ones pain (which, as we all know, never works) OR create noble logical folk (where characters' decisions make sense). Ugh.
On another note, loving the new 'dos.

This episode was so heartbreaking T_T, I rarely cry watching TV/movies, but I shed some tears when Mi-Young was saying "Sorry" and sobbing while holding the diary. Jang Nara is such a good actress. (Jang Hyuk too!)
Even though I would not make the same decisions as Gun, I do understand him. He is scared of his illness and of hurting Mi-Young once again. If she manages to move on now, she will be sparred of some pain.
I hope Sera continued ballet during these three years, as much as I find second leads female annoying, she is victim in this whole thing...

Sobbing along with both Gun and Mi Young, what a sad episode.
It killed me when he tried hard not to cry over his b-day mug, again I cried buckets throughout the hospital scenes, along with both Gun and MY, their anguish, and the 'love will find you lollipop' part too.
I read everyone's opinion so far, and I can see everyone's point of view. but I think we must allow the direction of the story to be showcased as the writer wants it to be, otherwise we should produce our own version of FTLY. Personally I think they're doing a fantastic job. For those of us that watched the original, knows only too well, that this version has stayed true to showcase all the important scenes of the original with a different twist on how the OTP interact with each other, and how the male lead comes to realized hi love for his darling snail, TW-V very slow to get there, K-V, he knew it, fairly early in their relationship, but does not admit it to her, so therefore she is always a little unsure of his true feelings.
But for me, I don't think Gun was an idiot, he did what he did, because he could not face the fact that his beloved selfless snail and their child would suffer because of his genetic 'assumed for now suspected' disease. Because he is so frighten that he can not be there for them. He wants them to manage to live life happily without him. So to break up now before the baby is born, means that Mi Young has time to adjust to life without him, raise the baby well, without the knowledge of the disease therefore she would not be worrying or affected by any issues regarding him! and can concentrate all her love and devotion to their child(of course this may not be true or better for them in anyway, but he honestly thinks that they would be better off).
Even after the miscarriage, he still did not try to hold on to her,(I know that was silly, but he still believes that he will died soon, so therefore, being with her is a no, no) even though she suggested they try to start their relationship afresh, shows me that he is selfless too. He wants her happiness, above his needs to hold onto her (as he told his parents, that he did find a weird someone he loves, "but it's not right to keep her beside him, right?"), so that she can find someone else who's disease free and lives a happy marriage life, that person would be there and is able to protect her, whereas he won't be around to face lives ups and downs with her.
He took the blame for their Kendonggie dying, for MY suffering, and seeing her like that, harden his heart and made him plough through their break up.
MY never gave Se Ra any credit for that WTH meeting, she stilled believed strongly in their love, even after he told her to leave her position as his wife, and went through the miscarriage, she so believd that she can be strong for him, but he doesn't want her to suffer, so nope they cannot be together in his mind and heart.
Amnesia Gun, still loved MY more than Se Ra,...

Wait....I actually liked both episodes even if they added the noble idocracy and amnesia card. I thought both were executed well. At some point yeah I want to hit Gun but he has a reason another typical korean drama cliche but somehow I still like it. It's not even the makjang territory because the acting is subtle and handled in a mature way. There's no big huge eyeballs gasp and stuffs so I don't know how my friends said it was makjang in this drama. It was beautifully crafted.
I applauded both Jangs. I hope they win something at MBC but MBC riggs because of they only recognized ratings success. Boo.
But with that said, a new chapter opens up and I really hope it continue to be good. Please good. I'm already on ep12 I can't give you up. You have been my crack and I can name you as my crack of 2014. So far none of the upcoming Fall dramas appeal to me, so we'll see.

As disappointed as I was to see the Noble Idiot card played yet again, (especially right after the amnesia sucker punch. Really, Drama Gods? We had to go there?) I have to stick up for Gun. I understand where he was coming from— he grew up watching his mother cry and suffer in silence as his father degenerated due to Huntington's Disease. Gun knows how devastating and emotionally scarring it was for her. Now he realises that MY is going to have to face all that hardship if she stays with him. The big issue with Noble Idiocy is that it ignores the other person's feelings and right to decide for themselves. However, Gun knows that MY is kind and selfless to a fault. He's always telling her to stick up for herself, but MY is the kind of person who would rather throw herself under the bus than watch another person suffer. Knowing this, Gun probably believes that even if he gave MY a choice to stay with him through the difficulties of Huntington's or leave him, she would choose to stay regardless of her own feelings because she is so kind. The only way he could free MY from himself would be to force her out of his life. From this perspective, I understand why Gun would purposely try to push her away. While I agree that he should have been honest and totally went overboard on the pushing away part, I think Gun was trying his best in his own misguided way. He's definitely irrational and illogical, (but that's not news to anyone. After all, he was the one who thought he needed to go to a shrink because he was attracted to his wife) but Gun's still the warm-hearted goofball he has been since episode 1.

actually, here are two different stories because in tw version, the female lead was trying to protect her baby, she got hit by a car as she was trying to run away from him because she thought he wanted her to abort the baby as part of the new divorce agreement. at the hospital, she was conscious and knew he had to make a choice between her or the baby so she specifically begged him to save the baby. cun xi painfully i mean bloody painfully signed the waiver to terminate the baby to save her. she was so distraught, she fell apart and upon waking up hated him for getting what she thought he wanted - to kill the baby. she refused to see him and went abroad. the time gap was for them to heal and grow. in the tw version, the female lead hated the male lead. in the korean version its quite different that mi young loves him still and even asked him to stay by her side. so im really wondering how the dynamic is going to be in the new chapter. who will be chasing who. im hoping gun will be after myoung. its a completely different plotline now that i dont think there can be any more spoilers. im excited for next week's episode, dont know what to expect!

XinYi's was about 2 months in with the pregnancy i think. And contrary to popular belief, the doctor in TW version DIDNT ask CX to choose between the mother and the child. The doc clearly said the placental abruption happened and he needed to perform the induce labour surgery to save XY. CX signed the abortion paper and he said he wanted the mother, not the baby, just showing the fact that he accepted the fact that the baby was a goner already. This is a very powerful scene, even showing the pen he used to sign the paper makes us sob uncontrollably because it was a present form Xinyi herself.

Just my 2 cents;)
I loved this episode, despite all the drama that went on. Maybe it's because I was already spoiled (unintentionally from my part) about the miscarriage, but I could take it a lot better than I thought I would. It was tragic, but I get that it really was necessary. If I hadn't read the spoiler, I would have probably been a mess at the end. I really did feel their pain though.
A lot has been said about Gun's behaviour. I thought his emotions were very visible this episode, even though he tried to hide his pain. I don't really like the term Noble Idiocy; I think it was just him trying to think about the best scenario for Miyoung and the baby, and in that scenario he couldn't see himsef with her. He didn't make a choice for her, he made a choice for himself (he does have the right to do that, right?). It's true that in doing that he's also deciding for Miyoung, but that was not his goal. The best way to make sure she didn't remain by his side, and could move on without looking back was to end things exactly the way he tried to.
Anyway, I actually look forward to the next part and see how much Miyoung has grown. I hope she hasn't changed too much though, since I actually liked her a lot during the first part.
I'm really curious as to what everyone has been up to in the last 3 years (even Sera). It seems like Miyoung and Daniel are still just friends, and I hope it remains that way. I hope Daniel wil focus on finding his sister in the second half. I hope Miyoung will start working again, maybe as an artist (and have collabs with Daniel, thus providing us with enough scenes between them).
I'm curious how she and Gun will start to interact again. It seems like she has no intention of speaking to him ever again. Not because of some resentment, but I think when she asked him to stay with her, and he didn't, she decided to really (try) to forget about him, so I guess she will try to avoid him at first.
I'm not so sure about Gun. Has he moved on? Miyoung is under the impression that she couldn't be with him, he on the other hand knows they could have been together. So if it turns out he doesn't have the disease, would he have allowed himself to think about her again?
8 more episode suddenly seem way to few...

I am saddened that hardly anyone has considered the effect of Gun's genetic disease on the unborn child. With genetic testing for Huntington's disease readily available and Gun's frequent questioning of his doctor about whether the illness had started, I can reasonably assume that Gun had the test performed and confirmed that he in fact has the genetic disease. Thus, when he got MY pregnant, wouldn't any normal person be concerned whether he passed on the genetic disease to his child? And therefore, shouldn't Gun have disclosed to MY about this situation right from the beginning so that the BOTH of them could make appropriate plans for their unborn child's future? And regardless whether Gun and MY chose to stay together or play Noble Idiot, shouldn't the future plans include any necessary financial arrangements to deal with the future special needs of their child?
My point is that if Gun was truly concerned about his child, there should have been early disclosure and quite likely the accident/miscarriage and all of the emotional trauma in this episode would have been avoided.
I blame the writers for being lazy in presenting us with a very unrealistic script involving a very serious medical disease that the writers deliberately chose. As it is now, the writers have backed themselves into a corner. After all, Gun still has the genetic disease. Why would he now be interested in pursuing MY romantically since nothing has changed in 3 years? And if the excuse is that he never took the genetic test to confirm that he had Huntingon's disease, then are we and MY supposed to forgive him for causing the miscarriage and the emotional hurt of MY merely due to his casual guess that he had Huntington's?

The drama made it clear that it's not sure if LG has the gene or not. Dr. Octopus said in his earliest appearance that don't worry too much in advance, you might not have it. Your father hasn't been diagnosed, anyway. Only thing we are clear of is that grandfather had it. But LG's father passed away before having the disease, and no one knows if he actually had the gene or not. And LG doesn't know if he has the gene or not. And so far, LG has been living his normal life without thinking that he might die...or has been trying to live that way. Understandable. I heard that's what most people in HD family does...they don't get tested, because getting tested and diagnosed basically means getting death sentence. So disease or not, they just live without knowing. That's what LG has been doing so far.
But the problem is now that he is scared that he might have it, the fear got real, and he made that 'noble idiocy' decision.
And the question is, did LG know about the existence of the 'test'? I vote no. He's been asking Dr. Octopus over and over again whether he has the disease...He might have not cared about the genetic disease deliberate, tried not to get serious about it, etc, but now that he has MY and GD, he wanted to know if he actually has it. If he knew the existence of the test, he would've faced the fear of taking it, I feel like. I say no, LG didn't even know that he could test for the disease.
Then it's Dr. Octopus' problem...Did he not know about the test? But he's a doctor! OK, he could be a stupid quack and not know about the disease test. Now we all blame stupid Dr. Octopus.
Or maybe he deliberately didn't tell the existence of the test...There's a lot of debate on whether the test itself is 'right' thing. Because the disease is incurable, many believe there's no point in diagnosing it, cuz it's not like you can cure it if you know it in advance. Some believe it's not 'right' for a doctor to diagnose a disease u can't do anything about it. Dr. Octopus, being a family doctor, might have just decided by himself that his patients just shouldn't take the test. In this case, dunno, he is probably going against Doctor moral in not providing patients with all the information...so it's not a correct thing for him to do, but it's not impossible to understand him. And he also didn't know that LG is gonna make a life decision on that fact.

@gumi,
While I can certainly share your frustration at the ethics of the Korean medical community as depicted in kdramas, I believe your criticism of Dr. Octopus is misplaced. In today's Internet and Google world, how could Gun who is presumably intelligent, wealthy and computer literate not know about the existence of a genetic test for Huntington's? It defies logic and normal human behavior that Gun would rely solely on just one doctor, and not get second opinions nor be curious and conduct any independent searches for more information about this horrible genetic disease? Regardless whether Dr. Octopus negligently or intentionally hid the existence of the genetic test, Gun had to have known about the existence of such a test.
I agree with you that Gun should have the freedom of choice whether to be tested or not. But that is not the issue. Even if Gun didn't know about the existence of the test or chose not to be bested, the issue is whether Gun has the moral and ethical obligation to disclose his known or suspected genetic disease to MY when her pregnancy was first discovered. Gun's situation now is not limited solely to his life, but has extended directly to others. At a minimum, shouldn't MY have the right to know so that she could make intelligent decisions regarding the unborn child? Gun could choose to stay ignorant of his genetic condition, but does he have the right to extend that choice to be ignorant to his unborn child and the child's mother? My judgment is that Gun has the obligation to make full disclosure to MY at the earliest opportunity for both her sake and the sake of the unborn child. Especially in the early episodes where Gun was focused on post-birth divorce and regardless of whether Gun and MY would or would not stay together, both Gun and MY would have needed to make appropriate decisions and arrangements at a minimum for any special needs of the child if it were to have inherited the disease. I think that most people would agree with me that this would be normal decent human behavior to be expected of Gun.
Of course, if there had been early disclosure by Gun, then much of the reasoning behind Gun's Noble Idiot decision would have disappeared. Plus, the scriptwriters would have had to create a different scenario for the miscarriage to happen.
This is my criticism of lazy scriptwriters for completely glossing over this highly important component of normal human behavior just so that the scriptwriters could jerk us around with the big planned emotional miscarriage and Noble Idiot episode. Since this show is a remake and presumably the scriptwriters could save a lot of time with most of the storyline already predetermined, you would think that they could have devoted more time to picking a better disease to fit their script as well as tighten up and fix some of the logic and human behavior holes in the script.
So what are we left with for the remaining episodes? Gun still doesn't know...

So what are we left with for the remaining episodes? If Gun still doesn't know whether he inherited Huntington's, why is it now suddenly OK for him to pursue a relationship with MY when 3 years earlier under the same circumstances it wasn't OK? If Gun took the genetic test and found out he doesn't have Huntington's, then that makes it OK for him to now pursue a relationship with MY? But what about his earlier ignorance or intentional avoidance of responsibility which unnecessarily caused the miscarriage and inflicted unmeasurable grief and pain on MY. And we're supposed to accept that MY will forgive him and allow Gun to pursue a relationship with her? Not in this lifetime unless somehow the scriptwriters want to portray MY as the second coming of Mother Teresa.
I have no confidence that this scriptwriter can rescue the ending of this show after he has already shot himself in the foot by ignoring normal human behavior for the sake of the big scene. I suspect that this show will end with a series of WTF storylines that will strain credibility and logic, much like many of the other kdramas that have been littering the landscape recently. Thank goodness that I still have the best drama of the year in Yoona's Street to watch and remind me of how good kdramas can be with excellent scripts, acting and directing.

@james94131 ... you made some good points there.. the father has some screwed up morals. these are hard questions to answer.. i guess when the writers realized they couldn't use the same reasoning behind the leads separation like in the original, they just went with this noble idiocy without thinking it through. I'm still intrigued though because from this point it's clearly deviated from the original, so i'm looking forward what the writers have in store for us.

Thanks for recap this sad episode. I lover this version than TW version especially the miscarriage story. The reason for amnesia, miscarriage and huntington's disease make Kversion more strong plot, I really fine with it. I finish this episode with clean and clear feeling. Every single things happen in this drama with realiable reason. K drama make Lee Gun mature enough to let his lover to have better life in stead of risky stay with unstable heath person like him. I can understand Lee Gun reason and I really cry when he talk with his parent remains. He understand his situation and manage to struggle with it alone. He really good guy from my point of view. Kim Mi Young is the person I really love and little jealous in the same time. She may have bad luck in so many things but having Lee Gun's heart, she is the most lucky girl here. I watch this episode with tearful eye. I cry a lot with them until the end. I love that we just set zero at the end and restart everything again in next episode. To start next episode with fresh feeling and fall in love with our snail couple again. Thanks for K version Fated to love you team. You do a very good job. And no matter what, I love this show so much.

ahhhh omg!!! brings back memories of the Taiwanese ver. which I wish they would have depicted more of it in here. I wish they would have done what they did in the Taiwanese ver. where the girl was crying hysterically and saying she didn't want to see the guy (sorry cant recall their names from the Taiwan ver. right now lol) it was very dramatic but effective made me ball like a baby ^-^ oh and that new haircut that Gun got uhuh not feeling it but he still looks handsome lol Miyoung should have kept the same color as well but ehh I guess now they are depicting the Taiwanese ver. a bit more since the hairstyles look similar haha especially for Gun ha!!

I also think that the Taiwanese version gives a more dramatic but logical sense of the accident, because the heroine is trying to protect the baby and run away. The guy is finally realizing his feeling that he had for her all along. And because of the misunderstanding, it causes the accident. I feel that this drama is adding unnecessary genetic disease and amnesia to make the situation worse, when there are already lots of drama going on. I didn't really want to compare the two, but this plot is not very effective for me.

I don't think TW version was any more logical....she could've faced him and talk to him. It was a little too melodramatic and over the top that she chose to run away without even hearing his words properly. Who in the world would do that? And it puts unnecessary guilt to the male lead of killing the baby.

If it was Elaine Chen, she would shove the paper to Cun Xi's face and knock some sense out of him.. but no, she was the sticky note girl Chen Xin Yi. she was weak, meek and timid little girl who runs away. She was traumatized by the abortion paper presented by Anna that she couldnt think straight, she was mental if you will (evident from walking in the rain and playing with the sand scenes).. so given her personality, it's not strange that she didnt face him and talk to him. Confronting? Elaine would do that, but not Xin Yi.

I think because she was scared? She was distraught by that whole evil scheme orchestrated by Anna, so it's logical she refused to see him. Run and hide was her only option in her mind because she thought she could never win this fight. Cun Xi was the one with power after all. She had nothing.

By the way i wonder anyone know the name or the artist of the song (a sentimental one) sang by a girl in episode 12?
It is a very very sad song and goes along with the drama.

I know its by Ailee, but its not released yet so we will have to wait patiently. I love this song too, even though I don't fully understand the lyric, it does have a special feel and match the drama well.

And LG doesn't know if he has the gene or not. last comment i made, was about how ep 11 went one circle and back to same spot.
I get this ep.. it just brought us back to ep 1. ==
- where MY was free to date, and Daniel has a fighting chance (of course we all know that's maybe 2 ep long before we go back to OTP-ship)
- and Gun had fired his hairstylist and looks normal..(so does that mean, he's cured of his genetic disease?!??????!!)
The drama, beautifully filmed. That silence the slowed down time segment. heart broke into a million pieces.
~~ but this ep. arghs.
Show, you have A LOT of redemption to do.
Heartache dished out this way, after all that sweetness ...
I'm sharpening my claws. .. arghs. you better not bring us back to the beginning.

"It just brought us back to Ep 1".
Yes, this is the very premise of the original story indeed. Same people but with changed characters and changed circumstances - yet they are fated to love each other.
I hope this is not seen as a spoiler but this going around in two circles, each with similar no of episodes, to demonstrate the 'fate' point was the main attraction of the original story. I can't see a remake can deviate much from that and am very hopeful the FTLY team will continue to deliver.

It's funny that I didn't realise this while watching, but Miyoung didn't think Gun was really breaking up with her the first time around. She thought he still hadn't regained his memory and thus was breaking up with her, without remembering the time they spend together. That's why she could walk away smiling, even though his words had hurt her. She was still being optimistic and probably thought he would come back for her the moment he regained his memory. The sad thing is she was right in thinking like that, weren't it for his disease. Of course she had to realise in the middle of the road that he did get his memory back, and therefore he must have really broken up with her. That's why she turned back and called out his name in that broken voice. That's when she got scared that he really was leaving her.
I think the reason she asked the questions she did in his office was to confirm her suspicions about that night. And she got her answer. I don't think she was expecting him to say yes. She had already signed the divorce papers, which to me says she actually had made up her mind too. I think she just wanted to leave without having any regrets.
Although it may have seemed like she left without any resentment, I think that restaurant-scene hurt her more than she let on. I really want to know how she'll behave once she comes face to face with Gun (without passing him by;))..

You should probably watch them if you're planning to watch the rest of the series. The last two episodes were very, very sad, but also had some precious moments between the couple, as always. Plus the acting....both the leads were stunning this week.
I haven't seen the original, so can't really compare, but the comments here tell me that this version has treated it quite differently, and is "less heartbreaking". Maybe you should give it a try and decide for yourself?

This episode totally killed me. I was dreading watching it because the previews implied it was going to awful. I was screaming at Gun to stop his noble idiocy. Emotional wreckage!! Hoping that the 3 years later episodes are going to be more fun again. Poor second lead Daniel is probably going to be the loser.
