Triangle: Episode 19
by gummimochi
For an episode following a rather big revelation, we’re rewarded with more planning and scheming in this hour. To Young-dal’s credit, it’s a pretty smart plan because it requires knowing what makes the other person tick and what pressure points will evoke the kind of reaction our hero wants. It also requires a lot of manpower and everyone in this large characterverse gets to do their part, whether they’re aware of it or not.
As previously announced, Triangle has added two more episodes to its roster, bumping up the total count to an even lengthier 26 episodes.

EPISODE 19 RECAP
In order to learn how Shin-hye arrived at her conclusion that Yang-ha is Dong-woo, we backtrack to earlier that day when she had spoken with Jung-hee’s grandmother. Grandma had remembered the Jang family fondly, since they were family friends, and dug up an old picture. Aw, is that little Young-dal holding hands with Jung-hee?
Although Grandma remembered the tragic fate that befell upon Daddy Jang and his three boys, she wasn’t sure what happened to the children after they were sent to the orphanage. She did, however, hear whispers that Chairman Yoon adopted the littlest one, Dong-woo.
Seeing the picture for himself, Dong-soo recognizes Jung-hee’s father as a friend of his own father. And for three whole seconds, he challenges Shin-hye’s deductive skills about Yang-ha’s adoption, claiming that he won’t believe it until he hears it from Chairman Yoon himself…
…And then back downs when she pretty much tells him: “There’s a really high possibility it could be true, therefore it is fact.”
It’s also kind of hard to believe that Shin-hye thinks Chairman Yoon was unaware that he adopted one of his enemy’s sons. Or maybe our corrupt chaebol was just that dense, who knows. The only way to know for sure is to get through to one of his longtime employees—Yang-ha’s right-hand man, Kim Jin-soo, aka the man who didn’t give her any answers in the previous episode.
Speaking of whom, Kim Jin-soo inquires about Shin-hye to Director Hyun, but the latter would rather avoid any conversation about his ex-wife. Meanwhile, Yang-ha quickly deduces that Young-dal’s up to something when he hears (from Manager Bae) that Young-dal’s been meeting up with Jiyeon lately.
Jun-ho happens to eavesdrop on that conversation, and while Jang-soo and Jailbreak make a fuss over how Manager Bae has betrayed them, Young-dal curiously remains silent. Did he plant Manager Bae by Yang-ha’s side?
Judging from Young-dal’s response, it doesn’t sound like it since he says that it’s better for them if Manager Bae has leaked info to Yang-ha. He has Jun-ho to continue to keep tabs on them.
At home, Grandma asks if she remembers her childhood friend and neighbor Dong-chul. She doesn’t, even after seeing an old picture of them together, and Grandma laughs at how the two kids used to go around claiming that they’d get married. Aw.
Chairman Yoon is running out of patience with Chairman Go, citing how Dong-soo is still alive and now Young-dal is working at Daejung. Humiliated by the smackdown, Chairman Go hilariously asks his lackey if he’s lost that villanous flair of his, and then makes the order for Myung-jae to get a move on.
It just so happens that Madame Jang’s lackey overhears the tail-end of Myung-jae’s conversation at the illegal casino. Believing that there’s a storm brewing, he goes straight to Madame Jang, feeling uneasy about the order for the gangsters to gather in Sabuk.
Young-dal tests Manager Bae’s loyalties with a request to find an informant in Lucky Casino (associated with Hanchang Group). He’s then called downstairs to see Boss Min and Manbong, who advise him to skip town for a while because Myung-jae’s boys have been ordered to Sabuk.
They’ll remain behind and do their best to stop him. Because they’re awesome. But Young-dal doesn’t have the slightest inclination to run away—he’ll make sure Myung-jae gets his due.
Yang-ha tells Manager Bae to do as he’s instructed, and there’s still no word on why Jiyeon is involved at all. When Jung-hee comes down the stairs a minute later, Yang-ha asks her out on another date, only to be told that today is her father’s death anniversary.
And things get awkward real quick when Young-dal appears before them moments later. He lingers for a few moments before willing himself to walk past them. Yang-ha’s eyes carefully trace Jung-hee’s expressions as they turn from hopeful to notable disappointment.
The silent treatment weighs on both Young-dal and Jung-hee’s mind as they brood separately. In the locker room, Jung-hee sighs at how living in a small town means that everyone knows everything, like her recent outing with Yang-ha.
Young-dal meets with Jiyeon at a restaurant, and the two drop the pleasantries when she tells him to cut to the chase. They agree that neither isn’t what the other expected (like how Jiyeon isn’t just a spoiled rich girl and Young-dal isn’t just a good-for-nothing), and Young-dal says he knows that Hanchang Group is eyeing big-time foreign clients. He can make that into a reality. She appears intrigued, and so a partnership is formed.
Yang-ha returns Shin-hye’s call and informs her that things are going so well for him lately that it’s making him nervous. She tells him to enjoy it and they agree to meet in Seoul the next day.
Dong-soo and Young-dal meet up for drinks, and it’s adorable how Dong-soo gets all worried about his brother’s plan to go up against Myung-jae. Young-dal assures him that he doesn’t intend to use violence; rather he’s going to teach the merciless gangster a lesson.
It turns out that ever since Daejung Casino went public, it’s managed to empty all the gangsters’ pockets, save for Myung-jae’s. Young-dal intends to make sure Myung-jae ends up penniless. When asked how, Young-dal returns a sly smile, saying it wouldn’t be any fun if he shows his cards early.
Amused by his brother’s cheek, Dong-soo hands him the childhood photo given to him by Shin-hye. Despite being told that he and the little girl next to him were attached at the hip as kids, Young-dal doesn’t remember, and seeing the photo only reminds him of his guilt for not being able to find their brother Dong-woo yet.
Dong-soo knows it won’t be easy since the orphanage director suffers from dementia, and while he completely understands Young-dal’s determination to use any means necessary to track their brother down, he mostly blames himself.
Jang-soo and Jailbreak are amused by Madame Jang’s bitterness for being left out of Young-dal’s success. But these two are here to ask if any of Madame Jang’s dealers know how to do a black trick—a scheme dealers pull whenever the house is losing money.
Some of them do, but the lackey gapes when he’s told that the target is Myung-jae, arguing that trying to con the big-time gangster is to ask for a death wish. But Jang-soo says there will be money for them if the underground casino pulls it off.
After Hyun-mi uses her recent promotion to order around the annoying casino sunbaes, we turn back to Team Young-dal, who ready themselves for the next part of their plan. Young-dal tells his boys to approve Myung-jae as a Daejung VIP client, since the gangster qualifies as a successful businessman on paper.
I’m assuming Young-dal’s plan is to rile Myung-jae up in the underground casino first (with that aforementioned black trick), then invite him to the Daejung VIP room to make him feel better, but that’s where he’ll lose big money. And that’s exactly what’s happening at the underground casino as Myung-jae loses hand after hand, and Madame Jang worries that this strategy might end badly. As in, with their own lives.
Ha, Boss Min wonders if Young-dal is a little too confident about going up against Myung-jae, but she backs down when she’s filled in from Young-dal himself. By the time Manbong visits the tables, Myung-jae is already down about 500 million won (nearly half a million USD), and suffice it to say, he is pissed.
Manbong cuts it close with his side remarks, but thankfully for him (and everyone else), Myung-jae is wiped out clean and rises from the table, furious. Once he leaves, Manbong reassures Madame Jang and her lackey that Myung-jae won’t ruin his reputation to throw a fit here.
Jun-ho finds Jung-hee smiling at her childhood photo of her and Dong-chul, whom she’s been told was her first love. At the same time, Young-dal is smiling in his office at a similar photo of themselves. Naturally neither he nor Jung-hee are aware that the other child in their photos is the other person.
Jailbreak brings up the uncomfortable topic about Young-dal with Jung-hee, telling her that his friend didn’t mean those harsh words when she was kidnapped. Explaining how he was there, Jailbreak clarifies that Young-dal was acting cruel for her own safety, so he hopes she won’t misunderstand the situation.
The truth slowly sinking in, tears start to well up in Jung-hee’s eyes. When Jun-ho drops by Young-dal’s office, he recognizes the two children in the photo on the desk as the same ones in Jung-hee’s photo.
Dong-soo is shocked to learn that Kim Jin-soo shared a hyung-dongsaeng friendship with his father. Well-liked and respected, the former Dongjin miner supposes that’s why Chairman Yoon employed Kim at Daejung later on.
After checking in with each other’s love lives, Shin-hye finally asks Yang-ha if he knows any information about his adoption process. All it takes for him to open up is the pretense that she’d like to use his case for a thesis, because all Shin-hye needs to do is breathe for people to give her information she wants.
She listens to Yang-ha telling her that he tried asking Chairman Yoon when he realized that he’d been adopted, but he’d been unable to get any answers.
Her expression seems a little too understanding, and when Yang-ha returns to Daejung, he asks his right-hand man if he knows anything about his adoption. That question prompts Kim to ask if Yang-ha has been speaking with Shin-hye. Yang-ha admits as much, but replies that he’s stopped therapy awhile back and he hasn’t had to take his meds lately, either.
Catching Kim Jin-soo on his way home, Dong-soo persuades the man for a chat, saying that he knows that Kim was good friends with his father. Kim describes how he and Daddy Jang were indeed friends, yet their different stances in the miners union strike put strain on their friendship.
It was only after Daddy Jang’s death that Kim found out that Chairman Yoon ordered his death. Dong-soo was gone by the time Kim found the two other Jang brothers at the orphanage, and in an effort to atone for his guilt, Kim went ahead to adopt little Dong-woo into Chairman Yoon’s family.
“How does that atone for your sins?” Dong-soo asks. “How could you think to have my brother be raised by my father’s enemy?”
But Kim says he believed that it was better that Yang-ha be brought up in a life of wealth and privilege, and that belief remains unchanged. If Dong-soo truly cares for his little brother, then he’ll stop his revenge against Chairman Yoon, Kim Jin-soo tells him, because the rich man raised Dong-woo until now. Well yeah, but he raised an heir, not a son.
Instead of arguing the point any further, Dong-soo just… gives up and walks away with tears in his eyes, recalling his declaration of vengeance against Chairman Yoon and when he punched Yang-ha, his own baby brother. He lets out a horrified scream in the streets.
Jung-hee attempts to strike conversation with Young-dal at the workplace, but he cuts her off, keeping up his coldness act. He turns to walk away, and Jung-hee calls out that she knows he didn’t mean what he said when she was kidnapped and that he’s deliberately trying to keep a distance from her. In a breaking voice, she pleads, “Don’t do that… please.”
Although those words shake him, Young-dal holds back his tears and walks away.
It’s D-Day for the next part of Young-dal’s plan at Daejung, and Jailbreak sends in one of the Sabuk neighborhood wannabe thugs (remember them?) to approach Myung-jae about a loan, which the gangster desperately needs.
Myung-jae is then led to see Boss Yang, who drives a hard bargain with a quick turnaround on said loan. But since Myung-jae is quite desperate, he agrees and orders his lackey to reserve a VIP room, unaware that he’s playing right into Young-dal’s hands.
Meanwhile, Young-dal assigns the female casino manager as the senior dealer in Myung-jae’s card game in the VIP room. His plan becomes a bit clearer when he tells Boss Min and Manbong that they’ll also be present because their tactic is to outsmart the gangster by beating him in a card game.
All they have to do is bet the opposite of whatever Myung-jae does. The game won’t be rigged, but they’ll be using Myung-jae’s currently agitated state to their advantage—he’ll likely place the maximum bet, so they’ll do the opposite.
It looks like Jiyeon went ahead to pull some strings too, because Yang-ha is informed that Hanchang Group has cancelled their contract with Daejung. Right on cue, his father calls, absolutely beside himself at these turn of events.
Yang-ha wastes no time to confront Young-dal about it, grabbing a fistful of his suit. But Young-dal is hardly fazed—this is simply payback for what Yang-ha did to him, and maybe then some.
Dong-soo arrives at the lobby just then to see his two brothers engaged in a dramatic stare-off. “Dong-chul-ah,” he calls out.
COMMENTS
Of course you would leave us hanging on that note, Triangle. It’s not like we waited almost twenty hours for this brotherly reunion or anything. And now that we’re getting two more episodes in this series, I can foresee that we’re going to have to wait even longer for the payoffs we’ve been longing to see. Series extensions are like a double-edged sword, and in Triangle’s case, my happiness to see Jaejoong exercise more of his growing acting chops barely trumps the fact that the story will move slower than molasses for a show that already lost some steam recently.
That being said, I really did enjoy seeing Young-dal’s plan being laid out in this episode, even if it took a long time to actually see the beginning of its execution in the final minutes of the hour. It’s a thorough plan that involves lots of side characters to work together and trust that the bigger goal is to outsmart the evil gangster by tapping into his vice for gambling. At first, I thought that Young-dal covered all of his bases by planting a spy in Yang-ha’s presence, but I was left even more impressed when he kept his cool and then placed a false trail to keep his opponent distracted. And I think it’s even smarter that Young-dal didn’t have to rig anything when he knows what it is that makes his enemy tick, and then use that against him.
Conversely, I was disappointed to see a childhood first love origin storyline between Young-dal and Jung-hee. I know it’s a trope we see so often in dramaland, but I’d been spending so many content hours knowing that two adults naturally developed feelings for each other that I felt it was unnecessary to cement that pairing with childhood puppy love. I’d say that it helps that neither of them actually remember each other as children, but then again, the same is true for dozens of love stories in other shows. And I cringed when all it took for Jung-hee to realize the truth was a tertiary character telling her the truth, because up until recently, she’d been a refreshingly normal and sometimes even practical heroine, and now I fear she’s being painted as another character used to stand idly by until Young-dal’s plans are over.
And then there’s Yang-ha’s adoption, a reveal I wish was executed far better than it did in this hour. I’d generally accepted that Shin-hye would play the uncertain exposition fairy again, but I’d hoped that Kim Jin-soo’s involvement was more developed than his own justified act to atone for his sins against Daddy Jang. Even though I didn’t understand why Kim didn’t just adopt both Jang brothers at the orphanage instead of separating them further (since Chairman Yoon is apparently someone who recruits and disposes heirs at will), I would have been far more intrigued if his reasoning included something like psychologically tormenting his late friend’s enemy by unknowingly forcing the rich man to raise Dong-woo, who would later take over the Daejung empire.
Instead, the explanation we got came across as flat and recycled, and I don’t see how it at all negates the fact that Chairman Jang had Daddy Jang killed and may or may not know that his future heir (not son) is his enemy’s son. The answer to the latter half of that question still remains frustratingly vague, and now Dong-soo is under the weight of so much guilt that I’m surprised that he can even wake up every morning. Maybe it’s the PPL ice machine in Shin-hye’s house keeping him cool.

There are a few mysteries in this drama that I'd love to know.
Who is Cabbage Patch's wife? He couldn't get laid by some servants to give him an heir ala Baker King? He is a wealthy man, but he couldn't get someone to be a surrogate mother to his own genes? Then again would we want a Cabbage Patch's kid?

I don't mind the puppy love theme, mweh, at least they don't remember each other or actively search for each other. I'll treat it as a coincidence in their life.
"And I cringed when all it took for Jung-hee to realize the truth was a tertiary character telling her the truth"
I agreed, this part was just awkward, yet at the same time easily predicted based on the many loud mouths in this show. Either it's Jerry or Jangsoo who will tell her.
I missed Ahn Chang Bong's voice.

Jung Hee was about 3 years old, 4 tops. Young Dal about 6 or 7.
Puppy love or nonsense?
Ultimately, this story doesn't need that they LOVED each other even then.

Then the puppy love doesn't make sense because Junhee is the same age as Yangha. she had to be a baby just like him back then.

@Belen - I thought Jung-hee and our youngest bro were the same age too (probably since Baek Jin-hee is younger than Im Siwan), but since Yang-ha was actually a baby when Jung-hee was playing house as a little girl, it looks like Jung-hee's 2-3 years older than him. Old enough to be besties with a slightly older oppa, but yes, the first love angle is unnecessary.
Though right now they're not fixated on each other's childhood selves as First Love or whatever. It's just a pleasant memory that they find amusing/nostalgic, they're still very much into each other's present day selves, first love or no.

I think that 'loved' meant to be a joke because they were kids, every grown up seeing two kids playing house would poke fun at them. Even Junho poke fun at Junghee when she said little Dongchul was her first love, he said he thought he was her first love. This to me just meant to be a nostalgia thing to give some memories for YD. Everyone wanted to know about his young life, as well as JH's father connection to the three's father, might as well write it in that they were best buds with two kids liking each other so much, they promised to marry each other.
Classic kdrama, everyone is connected.

yeah, this wasn't totally out of the blue since we did get told right at the beginning that Jung-hee's late father was a miner too and later that he knew the brothers' father. It's not crazy to assume the kids knew each other. But still, I like adult Jung-hee and Young-dal together, fighting!

I stopped watching, so I don't know if this air machine is the same one that I've seen elsewhere.
There is a Samsung cool air machine that is making the rounds of the sets: first on Glorious Days (Sat's ep) when Lee Sang Woo took one to his grandfather, and one to his girlfriend, to keep them cool; and then on Trot Lovers (Mon's ep) when the fallen star brought one to cool Chun Hee down during her dance practice.
Seems to be a portable air conditioner. I'm sure there is a big market for it in Asia, which generally doesn't have central cooling.

After the disappointment that was last week's eps, ep19 was somewhat better. Even if most of it was basically convos and planning, yet again. Writer, please don't use the extension to further drag these meandering useless storylines and just focus on the primary plot of the three brothers! -.-
The logic behind Yang-ha's adoption doesn't really compute. Yeah, he's better off living as heir to the Daejung throne. But if I were Dong-soo and Dong-chul, it would break my heart to see him raised as a rich azzhole prince who was constantly living under the fear of being deserted by Daddy dearest, and clearly f-d up in the head. I'm still looking forward to him losing his marbles, once he finds out who his hyungs are (or maybe I'm just evil inside, haha).
Now we're getting close with the Dong-woo reveal, but even there, Plot Device Shin-hye really is just being exposition fairy, as GM rightfully put it. At least the beginning showed what led her to think that thoughts=facts, but still. I don't like it. I especially don't like that she's the one who's going around and revealing info like the plot device she is.
I don't like that they're trying to go there with the first love trope again for Young-dal and Jung-hee - because I was ok with their natural progression as a couple, as adults. Although the only connection that I am ok with is their fathers being close friends, so I hope the pic will only be used for that purpose.
And hurrah for Young-dal, for finally being able to outsmart his adversaries and gain some ground in his revenge-for-Dad/family against the three baddies :) I'd say it's a bit overdue, considering how his luck was changing a while back - but since kdramas love to torture their heroes with their long winding arduous road to a happy ending, I guess we should be happy.
Ji-yeon (or was it Yu-jin, as I think I heard Yoon call her) was kinda refreshing to be so straightforward, despite being the classic scorned woman role - I liked how both her and Young-dal came to realize how different their initial reactions of each other, in actuality. Although I don't think Yang-ha would even bat an eye for her reaction, I do hope that she will serve as another backer to Young-dal, a la Elder Ahn.
As for Frankenstein Man's sudden thirst for gambling - I think I saw it a mile coming, but I'm somewhat relieved that Young-dal and co. thought of a crafty plan to deal with an adversary as scary as him. I'm still loving both Boss Min and Manbong as awesome sidekicks that are enabling Young-dal in his revenge game, like the aunt/uncle he never had for support and guidance :)
And of course, Jung-hee finding out from a third party about Young-dal. Tsk tsk. While the misunderstanding is now unfurled, it still felt a bit clunky? Like the Yang-ha as Dong-woo reveal. Eh, I suppose I shouldn't be so choosy. At least she knows the truth. And I do hope that she can finally peel off skeezy delusional Yang-ha, once and for all.

Of course i knew that Young-dal himself wasn't being forthcoming by letting the misunderstanding stand as is.
I was hoping that he would take the initiative in reaching out to Jung-hee and telling her the details face-to-face...instead of having Jerry be the one to break it to her. Especially considering how their relationship was based on their honesty and truthfulness in conveying their feelings.
I suppose I'm nitpicking, though. At least she knows now.

This drama doesn't give me anything except extraordinary acting from JaeJoong. Every episode he is getting better and better. I am so proud of him. This drama is tailor made for him.
Other than that I love all the woman in this drama. They are so strong. They don't depend upon their man. I love love love Madame Jung and Madame Min. I love Jung-hee and Shinhye both doesn't depend upon their man and don't get afraid of speaking their mind.

Jaejoong is the real winner here. this drama isn’t perfect but he really knew how to take advantage of this project.
This story was presented as the story of three brothers but ended up being "Young-Dal: life, passion and brothers" , It’s pretty clear that people likes this more.
If he wasn’t talented enough, he could have ruined this chance but he is acting his heart out and the results stand out. I think it will be the memorable thing of this drama.

I completely agree. I don't know to what extent they changed the script but from teasers it seemed like it would have been more equally split on the three brothers.
LBS and ISW were already known as good actors, with Jaejoong as the wildcard. Nothing much stands out in this project but his improvement..

I think that Jaejoong knows how to make his own way to the glory, he stands out. I saw him for the first time in Dr.Jin and at some point of the drama, Kyung Tak (his character's name) was everything most of us (viewers/ recaps followers) talked /seriously/ about. He wasn't the main there, but he stole the show for many people as just the second lead. The show was a joke, but he didn't make a joke of his character.
And now here, he is showing a big improvement and has become literally the center of the show. It's actually kind of awesome if we consider that this is just his third drama appearance and his first main character.

I love how it goes as what Yangdal has planned in mind. Jaejoong's acting is awesome. Didn't expect the childhood sweetheart thing, it's just kinda cliche. Jiyeon is so pretty. I like her personality here. Why did she just showed up recently? She should have been casted earlier. She's an acting-dol, right? I think I've seen her sometime. T-ARA??? Haha. Not sure, but she's a real great actress. Weee~ New bias. Triangle's daebak. So interesting.

I hate the old man Kim for thinking that having Chairman Yoon raise Dong-woo/Yang-ha was a good idea. He may have lived in luxury but he also lived in a state of perpetual fear that one day he would be cast out. And they have made Yang-ha and Young-dal hate each other so much, I wonder how these brothers will be able to reconcile with each other. It will be interesting to watch. And I hope Young-dal and Jung-hee will get back together again; I miss their cuteness.

Best scene, Dong Soo's angry outburst after talking to KJS. I thought he was going to turn into Hulk!
Watched Epi. 20 already, and I can't wait to read the recap.
Good job!
I can't wait to see next week's episode. Weeeeh!

I'm dying to know what happened to young Youngdal after his baby brother was adopted till he lost his memories before becoming lowly gangster...
I like this episode. Youngdal is street smart. He does not need to spill blood when against Mungjae.

yeah, I knew Heads feared amnesia striking in this story but with Young-dal, we had it already, it just doesn't register as such since he remains Young-dal to most of his people.

This drama could have been done better if the writing is solid. Oh well, there are too many flaws and the meetings are getting on my nerves lately. Why do they have to meet so many times at so many places???? and another thing! I knew it! it's going to be jailbreak who is going to break the big news to JH. He was in the car for a reason. LOL. Good thing that JH knows the truth now.
One thing that I hate bout Triangle is that, they kept on introducing new character to us. I dont mind that jiyeon girl but the villain in this drama! They introduced man bong who was the scariest gangster ever! and turned out all puppy looking for boss min and YD. and then comes han myung jae. The scariest nation gangster. For god sake! how many 'scariest' gangster that you want to introduce to us? and instead of getting YD, you made him gambling addict. It's like playing RPG and you have to fight all those unnecessary bosses before you get to the final boss. writer-nim, you make sure that the final boss is sure as hell epic or I'll flip the table!
on a positive note, I love JH's little family. They love each other so much and finally we get to know about JH's younger brother who is in college? i think? and I miss YD's motorbike! TT.TT
thanks for the recap! :D

since you mentioned 'scariest gangster', there may probably have another one. Mrs Min's husband!!! If he showed up in latter episodes, I'll gv the writer-nim a 90 degree bow, for using up all the mentioned clues :p

you are irritated for everyone except JH. lol
JH is irritating me. I know shippers want to see dal-hee together but JH really needs to understand this dangerous situation. YD has some gangsters behind his backs. What if the gangsters hurt his grandmother or his little brother?
can she expose her little family because she can’t wait anymore.
It's precisely because these gangsters are "puppies" and "gambling addicts". Dal-hee will get lovey-dovey moment in the next epi.

well, I am irritated with the gangsters. I didnt say that I hate anyone else. I love YD and his three bros. I was stating the few flaws that I see throughout the drama. This drama is not perfect but I can still watch it. It's bearable to watch. I love Dalhee too. They are soo cute together and I hope that they end up together. But overall, the drama is all over the place with no focus. Oh well, hoping that the three bros reunited and get this thing over with. Fighting!

I also think Junghee annoying. She knows Youngdal was gangster, did many bad things, and therefore has many enemies, so did not need someone to tell her that he was rude to her to try to save her; she should at least consider the possibility of who did this to her is an enemy to Youngdal and wants to harm him by threatening those he loves. Anyway finally had the kissing scene in episode 20, but I still find this couple annoying and needless waste 5 episodes of Triangle focusing only on Dalhee. Dongsoo hardly appear more and the only fact Yangha have many scenes is by Dalhee and not developing his story.
I am truly very disappointed with the drama.
At certain points I feel betrayed bcz the pd sold me a story focused on the brothers nd JH know that YD like her but would not immediately correspond to that love and the little by little she will like him, and then the drama begins with lots of Dalhee and JH already loves YD. It's like buying a product and receive another. I'm really upset.

I feel that this love triangle matters more on the revealing of Youngda and Yangha's life and personalities rather than pure love pain between three adults.
Junghee is also a kind of plot device to develop conflicts between the two younger brothers.
The girl's feelings are often twisted.Like in EP 18,we saw her so angry and disappointed with Youngdal ,that she said:"Finally I am awake from the worst nightmare."after the terrible abduction. She turned completely cold towards Youngdal the next day.But then in this EP,when she met YD at the same place, what she showed us was pain and sadness which I don't know where it came from.
The conversation between Junghee and her best friend is intriguing, too. Then we know the society they live in is sensitive to love scandals.JH is often troubled with this kind of rumors, too. Then why she did this so carelessly in the first place? There's a hundred ways to thank Yangha.I feel that this little talk between best friends is just an attempt of clarification for the actress' behaviors, concerning the audience's confusion after the broadcasting.

Man, you're my soulmate in this matter hahhha The way you describe Junghee and hers actions is the same way I feel too. She let Yangha think that they could be more that just friends and this is why he can not let her go. I know that will be Dalhee, the whole drama it is only based in Dalhee, but her actions is very ambiguous. I like all your comments PonyJay.

Thanks~
Glad that we share the same opinion of this CP^^
But I guess the writer will let them unite anyway. As a JJ fan,I hope their story could turn out more convincing in the next 6 episodes.I really really wish JJ's first leading role could have a happy ending in this drama.

Don't worry, Youngdal will have a happy ending. I just wish the drama would not be so focused on Dalhee, I think if was focus on the brothers and other characters the drama would have good ratings and done successfully.
Unfortunately things did not turn out the way we expect

It was not only me who give this spoiler and everybody already now that, the video is on YT since Tuesday and people come here more to hear opinions from several people about the drama. I apologize for the spoiler alert, did not know of this policy, but you could be a little polite. If you do not like my opinion fine, but want to force something that I do not think is too much.

@Rafaela - I doubt you will be back to see this, but it's basic courtesy to read the commenting policy of any site you comment on, and on dramabeans it is right there at the bottom of the page.
It's also basic courtesy to follow those rules and not spoil for other fans, even if you think you don't need to follow the policy because you are 'not the only one' (you're the first one I saw posting spoilers about it, btw) and 'everybody already know' (no, they don't - some of us watch later, if you saw the video before the recap went up then comment on youtube, instead of treating dramabeans recaps as your own personal space where you can say anything you like because you think you can).

And again, it is not about your opinion, it's about the fact that you violated this site's spoiler policy and spoiled things for more than one fan.
At least if you must post, keep it in mind for the future.

Also I'm pretty sure the early episodes of the drama, especially leading up to their date at the restaurant, do count as Jung-hee falling for Young-dal little by little since she most definitely didn't like him at first, but if you don't see it that way, that's fine.
But I hardly see Jung-hee going from holding the guy in absolute contempt as a gangster, to unbending little by little towards him when he's nice to her and defending him against detractors, to finally getting to like him when he tells her she's changed his life, as her being already in love with him and then finally attempting to put a name on their relationship after he went to jail.. He fell for her pretty much at first sight, yes, but with her, it took longer.

I do not think so. Junghee yes changed her opinion about Youngdal when she got to know him better, but only when he has changed social position, have a nice car and took her to fancy restaurant presenting her with expensive necklace is where she thinks of him live a lover and not as a friend. I saw nothing between them and it makes me frustrated to see that 20 episodes is just talking about Dalhee. Even enjoying the acting of Jaejoong, I wanted to see and know a little more about the other characters. Everything revolves around Dalhee and was not what the pd-nim said in the synopsis of the drama, he said that would focus on the brothers and today, with only 6 episodes to the end, we know nothing about the brothers (deeply), the meeting between the three still will occurred.
And the attitudes of Junghee is very ambiguous; an hour she believes and supports Youngdal, at another time not. As an girlfriend of a ex-gansgter is easy to think that he has many enemies and they can put their relationship in check. Youngdal was hit with strong news at the same time (knowing his childhood and Dongsso is his brother, man that before he thought about killing at the behest of the man who killed their father) and Junghee, rather than truly support him, is complaining about the lack of Youngdal attention to her. At that time she was not the center of attention and she should support him and not be grumbling about little single thing.
I will end this by saying that anything you write will make me like them and like the way the drama was focusing. I only ask that you respect my opinion, as I respect your opinion of liking them.
No one is obligated to like anything, neither I nor you nor anyone.

Man, what you should do is ignore my comments because as was 'only me' who give this 'spoiler' it was only you who get irritated. The point is not the spoiler, is you don't like my opinion and about this you can not change what I think, like or dislike. What left is we can just respect everyone opinions.
Please, if I comment again about Triangle in this site, just ignore what I said and go talk with the ones that you like the comment and want to exchange ideas. So, have a good day! ^_^

Thanks for the recaps (even though i was hoping to read almost same day as DS's recaps but I'm not complaining) :)
So far so good for me. Each episode enlighten me new things so that I do not know if the drama plot is on its way of resolving or revolving. Anyway I enjoy all, thanks to the whole cast performance especially Jaejoong *clap*clap :)
I find it childhood love plot is sweet but not necessary to add in. That's too conventional. Granny's revelation about Jang brothers came unexpectedly though it is unconfirmed. Mrs.Min & Mangbong team is very supportive to YD and we are quite relieve to this help. When self-proclaimed uneducated YD's character is more and more smarter, the US graduate YH's keep falling. And somehow he has no love life? I just wanted to give him a big HUG. I'm not concerned about YD and Yujin using each other. And also not too concern/anticipate about DalHee relationship. Now my focus is only on Jang brothers reunion since the writer is good to show the twist. Better expect the unexpected. Next!!!

I like that Jung Hee was told about Young Dal's coldness being a defensive strategy and now she has no misunderstanding about him..... and child Dong Chul and Jung Hee are very cute together but I liked it better when they genuinely met and fell for each other as adults after dating other people, Jung Hee even said she had an ex.
Not going to comment on Shin Hye, no need for it. But poor Dong Soo....

Well, They genuinely met and fell for each other as adults after dating other people, that's why I don't find the puppy love story necessary at all. It's not as if they were craving to find their long lost childhood love. Actually, they didn't even remember each other at all...

I Love This Show!!! Yes, I know it's taking a long time to deliver, but it's the little things that are revealed with time that make this show. The writer is taking her time, developing the characters, creating this web, that when you reach the end, I think is clearly more about the things you do to people, not knowing how important they are to you. Either as family, or as your first love, or even as someone who can help you in time.
In short, Karma. It's a cycle that comes around to get you from someone you screwed over when you thought they were down on the ladder, and therefore beneath you. Only to find out that person might end up being the most important person in your life.
For YoungDal, Yang Ha is such a person, although his guilt towards his little brother might destroy him considering how he feels about the current Yang Ha. Yang Ha is a person who has cost him a year in jail. But he is also the baby brother who he feels guilty for losing. So much pain awaiting Young Dal. He might even give up Junghee if he thinks it will make Yang Ha happy at some point. This relationship is going to be super complicated, as though it isn't already.
Junghee, she surprises me with each episode. I love that she's still hanging on to Young Dal. That she hasn't given up, though it was touch and go with the kidnapping scenario.
Dong Soo, I agree with the weight he carries. His family is now in this strange connection of relationships. I wish things could get easier for him.
Yang Ha will definitely get the worst of this cycle. The things he's done to both Dong Soo and Young Dal/Dong Chul, I don't know if he has the capacity to feel remorse, or if he'll say good, they deserved it for letting him go. The writer has given Yang Ha such a strange personality that I'm not sure whether he will be happy or angry at his brothers. Truth is, whatever he shows Young Dal and Dong Soo, inside, knowing who they are and the things his adoptive father has done to his family will drive Yang Ha to a dangerous edge.
Episodes 21-26, they'd better pack a punch, because all these hurtful things that have happened between the brothers should either bring them closer toward a common enemy, or divide them so far, it will seem hopeless and they destroy each other.
That I've had time to think up this comment means this is a good show because for once it's not about romance, and the girl, but so many other things. Family loyalty, revenge, karma...and how much people make judgments without really looking at a person and seeing their worth. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Your analysis is spot on and I'm in total agreement. I'm loving these episodes, in fact the whole drama.
Reading the comments on this episode, I'll say that I understand the audience's need to pull the plot apart during analysis and look for flaws and plot holes, but personally I feel that this is one drama that just needs to be enjoyed - not over analyzed.
Peace.

In the wake of certain other recent dramas (ok, ONE certain timeslot competitor) I've come to realise that Triangle may be flawed and frustrating, showing glimpses of greatness that it doesn't quite deliver all the time........but one thing makes up for much of that, and that is that it has heart.
That quality may be intangible and not bring in the ratings, but it does make me care about the characters and keep me interested in their continuing story. The same goes for Trot Lovers - flawed but definitely not mechanical or lacking in things to make us care.

One of the most frustrating things about this show is definitely that the glimpses of greatness are so obvious. Most apparent of these glimpses is the richness of the characters. We care about what happens to the characters, perhaps because we've seen them at their worst and know (sometimes before they do) all the injustices they've suffered.
On a more positive note, it seems that ratings are rising. I think ep 20 brought in 9.5% on AGB nationwide, and it'll hopefully rise more now that Dr Stranger has finished.

I totally agree with your first sentence! I've never had any difficulty caring for the brothers, Jung-hee or Madame Min, their experiences are set out in a very 'show, not tell' fashion.
Like with DalHee, I don't need Jung-hee to be Young-dal's first love or go around mouthing platitudes about how they're meant to be or whatever. We get to SEE a believably developed relationship. Same with Young-dal and Dong-soo, they actually get to know each other as people before learning that they're brothers but we're spared excessive cheese there. Or Yang-ha's unhinged antihero. All kudos should go to the actors, especially Jaejoong - he's more than equal to this role, and I so love watching him as Young-dal.
