Rain comes back to dramaland with She’s So Lovable
by javabeans
It’s official, Rain is coming back to dramaland with a new series titled She’s So Lovable to air on SBS. The title literally translates to “The woman who’s so lovable to me,” which is an awkward name that is just a touch less awkward than the Song Poh You it used to be (fine, it was Song For You).
I expect this drama to be visually gorgeous, coming from the writer-director pair who brought us Doctor Champ and Scent of a Woman—although dramaland as a whole has been looking a whole lot more glossy as of late, so perhaps the show won’t be such a stark contrast to the rest of the offerings this time.
She’s So Lovable is described as a “sentimental and romantic love fantasy” that takes place in the pop music world, where a group of young men and women harboring all sorts of pain find solace in music. Rain is set to play a songwriter-producer who is also the president of an agency, who still can’t shake the loss of his bygone love.
The drama purports to show a vivid depiction of the music industry, and based on the description (and from watching both Champ and Scent) it sounds like we’re looking at an introspective, hopefully sweet and romantic style of drama. And, with Rain cast as a master producer, hopefully lots of meta jokes and references to his own pop-star identity. ‘Cause what’s the point of casting former idols to cultivate fictional idols if you can’t make fun of the whole world of idol meta?
She’s So Lovable will follow It’s Okay, It’s Love on Wednesdays and Thursdays, premiering September 17.

I wonder who will be the love interest, that has alot to do with the show being successful. I'm tired of the homely no talented actresses that they continue to show with dyed red hair. Hopefully she can act, sing and dance. I wonder if Son Dam Bi is available or Tasha.

no! Park Bo Young will be waste in drama land becoz in dramas, the well-written & historical characters are for lead actors NOT actresses! Case in point,Park shin Hye in ALL her dramas
PS:Park Bo Young is TOO GOOD for Rain! No offence to his fans but he is just an ordinary actor who is OVERRATED due to his presence in Hollywood! IMHO,he is just a hunky man good for CF & showing his abs!
PSS:Park Bo Young DESERVES to act a long side A-list actors like "Won Bin",Hyun Bin","Kim Rae Won".

I hope that you are not a moony loony fan of her & take this comment!
She hasn't had improvement in her acting.Even in "you're beautiful",her character was the worst written & played!
she also carries the same "depression","frowning","sad" facial expressions & ruin the scenes. She cannot even pull off a kiss scene & make the viewers feel like she is being TORTURES!
once agin, plsss don't take offence! All these are true & I have nothing against her

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've have giving up on everything that is PSH. I tried I really did, but boy does she leave me like a dried up raisin. SAME EVERYTHING, there is nothing different, maybe it's the scripts she chooses. She reminds me of Ku Hye-sun and Park Min Young. Don't even get me started on their love scenes. When I watch them being kiss, i feel like I'm participating in something wrong. Their expression be like O.O and I'm like um.. am I supposed to be watching this? hahahahaha so I made it a rule of thumb, I don't watch dramas with female leads under the age of 30, unless I know by a fact she can bring her character to life. and I must say Park Bo Young is one of the few.

Heirs sucked but I think she actually did improve a good deal in Flower Boy Next Door, and all the exclamation points and allcaps in the world will not negate the fact that she had a kiss scene in that drama which actually had her looking like she was into it.
And this: All these are true
Not really. (see: first paragraph of this comment)

I happen to think that Rain is a pretty fantastic actor.
And there are PLENTY of awesome female characters in dramaland. I don't get why people always say there aren't any because while I understand that sometimes females get shafted in favor of the male lead, I also think that there are just as many times when the female lead rocks my socks off.

Right. Rain has proven himself as capable actor. I saw him in Full House and ALTK and in both he's really good. I don't know why PBY fans are really mad because their bias gonna act with Rain? It's not like Rain is the worst actor out there. He's more than capable as male lead and he fits this drama well given his background and experience as actor-singer.
Also there are many awesome female characters in dramaland lately. Ex. Jang Hye Sung IHYV, Cheon Song Yi YFAS, Eunji's char in Reply1997, etc.

Oh please, Rain rocked his lead roles in TWO Lee Kyung-hee dramas (which typically demand a high level of acting ability from their leads) before he was even 25, and long before he began looking at Hollywood.
I get that you're a Park Bo-young fan and so am I, but I'd only be insulted if her male lead was someone like Taecyeon (who fits the 'only good for showing abs/CF' tag flawlessly because god knows he can't sing and he really can't act at all).

Just because you think he's overrated, doesn't mean he actually is. Just because you think PBY is too good for him, doesn't mean she actually is. Rain absolutely knocked it out of the park in his last drama where he played an extremely challenging character. Ji-woo had such vast emotional swings in the matter of moments and he nailed them to perfection. So puh-lease, he's more than capable of brilliance.
And like Chandler said above, there are very many dramas where the focus is on the female lead - case in point - the biggest recent hit YFAS where Song-yi was easily the more pronounced character.
Lastly, I don't understand why some people just like to jump on the PSH hate wagon when this article has absolutely zilch to do with her. If it were to discuss her potentially being cast as the lead, that's a different story. But randomly pointing out what you don't like about her is getting really old really fast.

Gosh, I'm just SO excited. I know I wasn't too keen on the premise - still iffy on that, actually - but I didn't realize how much I missed Rain... until I heard official news of his return yesterday.
I don't think I've ever not liked a Rain drama. All four I've seen, he was fantastic, charming and just so winning. I've been complaining about a barrage of bland, stale shows this year. I think I'll sit through this even if it was the worst of the lot.
If rumours of PBY being the female lead is true (make it happen drama gods!), then I may just hibernate for the next 2 months. If it's IU... I'm gonna pull my hair out. She's great and all, but such a kid in front of Rain. I'm really hoping its not her.

If it was IU, it'll be weird, but then again, she looks matured now in her past MVs. Didn't the description say that he was going to help young, talented artists to achieve their dreams? I don't know. Lol but let's hope he gets a good match.

Honestly, I say this as someone who loves IU (as a musician) - the kid has a SERIOUS case of baby face that isn't going away any time soon, more mature styling or no. I personally think pairing her up with Rain would look super strange but it wouldn't be the first time a much younger actress has been paired up with a significantly older male lead (even that lead actor from LSS looked much older than IU) and if the story is well written and well acted, then it won't matter that much.

aww rain, miss him.
about the female lead, an article on nate hint a female soloist nicknamed " nation's sister" (subtle, totally subtle, rme) was offered the role but she declined so they are looking for other actresses.
I hope it's PBY..but heard from her fans she is going to film a high-shool horror movie with actress kim sa-rang this august.

If this producing team scored Kim So-yeon AND Kim Sun-ah for their previous dramas, they better knock it out of the park with the female lead casting. I know Rain's the one with the star power, but I just hope for someone talented to play against.

Mentioning Kim Sun Ah reminded me of the tango she did with Rain for one of his shows - it was amazing. I wish they would look to her, but of course she would be considered too old to play an up-and-coming singer. Too bad, because they have a great vibe together.

I haven't hear any news regarding Park Bo Young for the lead lady. She is now considering her come-back suspense-horror movie
A movie star like PBY who rose to stardom with "A werewolf Boy" & "Speedy Scandal" won't risk starring in a drama.
Besides that,Bi Rain is more like a commercial actor.
I know that he has the experience of acting along side top-notch actress like "Song Hye Kyo".But back then,Song Hye Kyo was so young & had only one hit, which was "Autumn in My Heart".
Now,Rain cannot have the chance to act & reunion with Song Hye Kyo AT ALL!

Erm, I hope you realize that the last time Rain starred in a drama was just in 2010 with Lee Na Young when she was (still is) a top star.
He's worked with mostly ever A-list actress out there in his age group (as someone pointed out in the last article). So the whole "Rain cannot have the chance to act & reunion with Song Hye Kyo AT ALL!" is a hilarious and seriously ridiculous statement. Also, unless you're SHK, I'm not sure who can be so certain as to make such comments. As much as I like PBY, she's a rookie compared to Rain who is more experienced, is a pretty great actor himself and is MUCH more popular with a huge huge fan following.

For Strawbies: LOL at your comment!
Rain is a great actor?!
yes, yes,I know because he acted in stupid unrecognized films in Hollywood!
SHK is now a very BIG SUPER STAR & differs from ALL K-ACTRESSES! I am not SHK! LOL
But after being her fans for a long time, being active in her "Soompi" pages, reading her interviews,I DO KNOW that she is not a kind of actress who acts in ANY drama & with ANY actor! The actors whom she work with are REAL ACTORS not s.o like Rain who just gets his status from his abs & some Hollywood films

LMBO, you ignored most of my comment and fixated on one thing so you don't have to justify yourself? Sorry, but I don't do petty arguments with people who just like to scream over the internet instead of having an actual discussion. So I'll end it with: if you think he's a crappy actor, "does stupid unrecognized films in Hollywood, gets status from his abs", congrats, good on ya. Doesn't make it true, because it's not. Simple and sweet.
You can reply if you'd like btw, I wouldn't waste a moment reading tho...

@Ghazal Sorkhi: Wow, you're really mad..... too bad for you that Rain has proven his acting ability in more than one KOREAN drama. This new project of his is a Korean drama. His Hollywood movies have absolutely no relevance to how he is going to perform in (I repeat) Korean. And he is one of the few idols who can legitimately claim a lead role on the basis of acting skill rather than status, especially given the right script.
Rain may get his idol status from abs, but his actor status? Is legitimately earned on the basis of his performances in more than one demanding role. But if you want to keep believing otherwise, don't let anything get in the way.

@Ghazal, don't worry, SHK will not be casted here even if her agency wants her to. Reason, the drama is about “.... love fantasy” that takes place in the pop music world, where a group of Young men and women......." ie I'm afraid SHK doesn't qualify anymore for the age group. She is already playing mother. IU, PBY and the like are more likely to be in the run for it.
Rain is not a nobody tt could be written off so easily, you know.

Rain Is Back! *fist pumps*
Its been a really long decade lol. I marathon-ed Plan B around 10 times, so I'm just thankful he is lured back to doing dramas at all (whatwith all this Hollywood/China projects left-right-centre). He said he wanted to play the character as soon as he read the script so I'm very positive about this. I just hope it's so so awesome because I know he won't do another one for a while.
I love the speculations with the female lead tho I have my preferences. I really want PBY or PSH but we'll see where it goes. For now, I'm just so happy he's back.

Rain? Hollywood? What? He may be big in China, but he ain't in Hollywood. I'm here looking for him. He is nowhere to be found. No posters. No marquees. No Rain anywhere. Too bad, he's cute.
Eun-hye is too big (physically) for him. Need more petite co-star. Fugitive is example, that girl slender enough, but too big/tall for him.
Come back to KDramaLand Rain.

I've always found Korean dramas to be quite a treat for the eyes, honestly. They seem to be the dramas with the most polish and style (fashion-wise) and glossiness compared to those from other countries. It's actually part of why I keep watching them even though I don't always care for their storylines. They're such lovely eye candy.
Anyway, the plot does not move me but I do like Rain so we'll see.

why so many here drag PBY's name here?!
She is a movie star not a drama artist! She was born out movie so acting in a drama is the last thing on her mind!
Rain oppa was born out of drama,"Full House".He also acted in movie. However, those who R born out of TV,have a kind of sentimental attachment & could read a large viewers out of Korea! I mean,it's not unusual & risky for him to take up an offer in a drama but for PBY that's not the case!
I just WISH she wouldn't take up the role

@pogo: You know it was PSH who sucked MOST in "The Heirs"! her character was the worst written (AS USUAL).
The thing is,Kim Eun Sook has always payed attention to her male characters & these are her LEAD ACTORS who become more popular after dramas are finished!
U say "The Heirs" suck becoz you must be a fan of PSH & the BITTER fact that her character was so nerve-racking,gloomy & pushover must have you let down.
Maybe if she chooses very different roles like acting as a cheerful & kick ass girl could help her.
PS:u said about her improvement in FBND,come on!!
She has acted in some dramas & the interesting part is that she acts the SAME CHARACTERS with different roles in different projects!
