Happy Friday, everybody!
And Happy 4th July, American friends.

I am very busy and don't like it but I have a holiday coming up in a little less than 2 weeks. Going to Scotland again! I hope the weather will be as good as it was last year :D

I am watching and recapping Jangbori (all for lovely Kim Ji-hoon) and we're getting to the half-way mark. The drama is CRAZY, but overall fun. I say overall because it's so CRAZY I'm sometimes not sure what to think.

The second show I'm watching is Joseon Gunman and I absolutely LOVE it. I am so glad I wasn't disappointed.

I don't have time for more, but I don't mind. None of the other dramas intrigue me.

But I wouldn't mind getting TEN3 this year, hear me, OCN?

PLS BRING LEE MIN KI BACK TO DRAMALAND PRETTY PLEASE!

Okay, I'm now a little sane. I tried shouting it in front of my lappy and my mom asked me if my cough is actually affecting my mental stability lol

Anyway, so here I was, marathoning Dal Ja's Spring for the first time, and boom! Who was this sexy god who's actually hero-material for the next novel I'm writing? *googles* OMG Byung hee! *googles other projects* GAWD YOU HAVE MANY MOVIES IN 2014!!

But it's like, what, a couple of hours x 5(?) = 10 hours. In drama I get to see you for about 16hrs minimum. Please drama gods bring him back... *googles* Shoot he's set for enlistment! I am one unlucky girl huhuhu

Im so sorry Lee Min Ki in case you're reading this (why won't I hope right?) I'm so sorry for being aware of you just only now. I know it's a mortal sin, willing to be your slave as punishment. Seriously, though, you are one amazing.

I third the Mixed up Detective Agency recommendation. I envy you just discovering Lee Min-ki - that means you have a bunch of great shows and movies still to watch. Some highlights, in case you are interested:

Taereung National Village - a wonderful short drama about people training for the Olympics.

My Older Brother -- his first drama and he is quite good in it. You also get to hear his native accent

Boyang of Mt. Kareung (not sure of the spelling) - really cute drama

As for movies, Spellbound and Temperature of Love were probably the best. Paradise Island is really enjoyable. His sexy scenes in A Good Day for an Affair are hilarious. I also liked Oishii Man, though it may be too slow for some. Hokkaido in the winter is really beautiful; Hokkaido with Lee Min ki in it is doubly so. Also, he sings!

Hard Nut..... so much love for that!!!

Have you tried The Long Goodbye? Alice no Tokage is solid – it's a revenge drama, but sort of detective-ish because the heroine is trying to figure out who the main culprit is. Some people were enjoying Rivers Edge Okawabata Detective Agency a lot, it's got a different vibe to it. (It's from the Mahoro director.)

I'm holding out for Henshin (sci-fi; premieres at of this month) and Young People (superb cast), personally.

I didn't last more than three episodes for Last Cinderella, but I do recommend Boku no Ita Jikan without any reservations. Made me change my mind about Miura Haruma completely AND it's the rare exception to all those unbearable terminal-illness dramas.

0

alua -

Hard Nut was the name! I couldn't remember it.

And Miura's drama is in the wings for when I want to marathon a tearjerker.

Thanks for the reccos!

0

alua has given some good recs, although i haven't been able to watch them.

as for older dramas, i like Gaiji Keisatsu a lot. it's a lot of intensity packed into six episodes. it's more political than actual crime, but has not a boring moment in it. really solid.

Shinzanmono is also pretty good, you can't go too wrong with Abe Hiroshi as a detective (well, he could be a car washer and i'd still watch him, haha).

Last Cinderella... i loathe it. need to banish it from my memory.

0

I'm enjoying River's Edge O.T. with Odagiri Joe. It's short quirky and fun. I like the music too.

Happy Friday, everyone!

For anyone in the path of Hurricane Arthur, may you and your families be safe. My donation office is open, so I'm plugged into the platelet machine watching water and wind ripple across the parking lot.

It's been a while since I've been on OT. Blame it on that devilish Real Life monster, who tries to suck out all our Asian drama joys. And for some reason, I've been on a Thailand lakhorn kick, watching 8 over the past several weeks, culminating in the currently-airing Sanaeha Sunya Kaen, starring the dimpled Dome Pakorn and the flawless Janie Tienphosuwan.

The SqueeCapping of FILWM is currently at episode 12. Thanks to some downloading issues, I'm not able to gif until the weekend following, so I will always be a week behind. Now that we see the kind of family Tian Xing grew up in, it's a wonder he is even close to normal human reactions and behavior. I hope our dysfunction no-compunction family gets what they deserve in the end.

Big squee's and happy sighs for Joseon Gunman. I'm only up to episode 3 but it has my heart already. Others I'm still playing catchup: YAS (despite much CSW-love), HSK, and TLuv. My 2nd TWDrama I'm watching is LMoY/Pleasantly Surprised. It's food porn and cuteness, and I highly recommend it.

On a non- drama note, I'm curious about something. My parents have a salad after the main course in our household, but most Americans have it first. What do you do in your country / family? Assuming lettuce-eaters of course. :-)

Salad: in norway its mostly eaten as a side dish. Like instead of vegetables you have salad. Or it can be a main course. But I haven't seen it be used as part of a multiple course dinner. At least not in my family or with my friends.

Manin!

Besides the one I'm currently watching, there are several that I really really enjoyed recently:

- "4 Hearts On The Mountain" - a sister and three brothers find love in 4 consecutive series. Each one is about 8 to 13 episodes and can stand alone. My favorite is 2.

- "The Three Musketeers" - 3 female journalists find love with: a bitter/retired actor, a reformed gambler (who is now my favorite lakhorn character ever), and a cop. These actually run concurrently, so bits and pieces of each show are in the other shows.

- "Dao Kaew Duen" - Badass, feisty photographer decides to find a sperm donor and be a single mother falls in love with a shopping mall chaebol.

Thanks for answering the salad question! :-)

My favorite Thai male is Aum Atichart Chumanon. He was the lead in one of my first Jam Loey Rak (and I love his eyebrows).

Lately he's been getting some competition from Chakrit Yamnam, who I am being to fangirl and obsess about. :-)

The current one is Samaeha Sunya Kaen, which has subs that come out almost as fast as the SK ones. It's a little bit more traditional lakhorn than the ones I recommend, with the revenge elements that a lot of people loathe in Thai productions. But for some reason, I can't stop watching! Maybe because both the second leads are adorable.

0

Hi Shukmeister and happy Friday.
Lol to the salad question. In Germany we used to have it as a side dish only. For example meat, potatoes and salad. But the French cuisine found its way into our country, so you'll often have it as a first now especially in restaurants. Never after the main dish though.

Oh, the Belgians know how to cook! They are heavily influenced by the French, too, and love their French Fries. The West Germans and Belgians love mussels. But we eat it with dark bread and butter, they combine them with, you guessed it, French Fries (Moules frites). Rich, but yummy.

I've never been to Portugal, so I'm not familiar with the order of the courses.

(I just realized, that I talked about cold, green salads.)

In general, nutritionists recommend to eat salad before the meal especially if you're weight-conscious: because it fills the stomach, so you'll eat less of the other stuff that follows.

In my family, we always ate the salad after the meal too! My aunt usually serves it WITH the meal.

And now, I need to go shopping. For salad.

In Poland we typically have a salad as a part of the main course (meat+potatoes+veggies). Sometimes the veggies are steamed or boiled, but we don't have them as a separate item. Oh, and a dinner without a soup is lacking in eyes of many people (me included).

Im my household however, we often end up eating additional servings of salad at the end of the meal , because when my dad prepares it (he usually does), he makes so much that we don't manage to have it all with the main course.

Required fields are marked *

There is no Polish cuisine without soups. Actually, there is nothing better when you come back home and want to get warmer or when you're tired and want to recharge your batteries quickly, but unfortunately don't have a Dokko Jin to rely on.

In autumn and winter we have soups that make you feel warm and cozy, they are quite intensive in taste. They are cooked with meat. In warmer months the soups tend to be lighter, more on the sour side and sometimes even served cold. Right now it's the time to make cold soups based on soured milk (it's delicious! very delicate and refreshing) with added cucumbers, beet roots and chives. Another summer favourite is dill soup - you boil fresh vegetables with a spoonful of butter, then you add a little cream and a bunch of dill.

And a good household should serve clear chicken broth with thin noodles on Sunday. My grandma still observes that custom, but we grew bored of eating it so often :)

The local fauna always get them first, leaving me with a few sad figs I managed to glean. [sigh]

0

Eating some figs as I read this, as a matter of fact. I thought of a great Renaissance Fair treat that I should market (although I am not fond of Renaissance Fairs, per se, but perhaps this would fly in Verona during the international wine fest at a food booth near the Romeo and Juliet balcony) Figaro ~ a fig dipped in chocolate on a stick.

0

Shukmeister -

Good to see you again on the OT!

Regarding the salad question: Interestingly, we do all 3 variations here in the U.S.. It just depends if the salad is going to be the main feature with accompaniments/small plate items, if the salad is going to be a side dish to a main entree, or if it's a multiple course serving situation where things are served one after another, separately, in which case the salad may be served after or before the main course.

Gosh, now I kinda hungry. *giggle*

Hi Korfan!

Wow, you have some nuances with your greenery. That's awesome!

Rarely do we have salad as a main dish in my household, although I have no problem with a quick salad from a decent fast food place (like Wendy's).

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Well this depends. I've done some research on it, you know, but that's just how my brain works - I need data but then I can take the data and use it to make fairly accurate creative leaps.

My family has salad before the meal, if you are talking about a green salad that doesn't include meat.

I am familiar with the idea that some people have salad after the main course and I understand it's considered something of a palate cleanser in that case, but then it's no wonder since I'm connected strongly to both my own country and the my family's original country, which is Italy, so it just makes sense that I'd be able to understand both presentations so clearly.

Now, if you want to talk about other types of salads - green salads with protein are generally considered the main course of a lighter meal, sometimes preceded by soup. Pasta salads can be a side-dish OR a main course; after much reading and research, my conclusion is that this is entirely dependent on the meal planner herself* and takes into account such factors as components, time of day, tastes of the meal participants, etc. I have read many books about salad, and the variations are truly interesting. We haven't even discussed WARM salads yet.

*I use 'herself' both as a gesture of solidarity with those who wish to free language from patriarchal oppression and an acknowledgement that very often, meal planners are, in fact, women. I myself cook very well; I suppose it's just native to me as the descendent of several cultures known for their appealing cuisine. I suppose this would be true even if I were a man, though.

I forgot to mention, that as for me, I tend to have salad as the one and only dish. I get a mixing bowl, fill it with mixed greens, sprouts, peppers, celery, cucumber, tomato, maybe a little bit of blue cheese, some apple if available, some dressing, and wha-la, dinner. Actually, any veggies I have in the fridge are fair game for my big bowl. I get a bi-weekly delivery of organic vegetables, so it takes determined veggie eating to get through all that food. Occasionally, I add nuts, seeds, or dried fruit like raisins.

My diet is sadly lacking protein, but I totally get my veggies.

I like my hot food piping hot so when I am having a more than one course meal I often eat my salad last because I do not want my hot food to cool. I never logically understood sitting down at the family table and eating cold food because it cooled off while eating the frigging salad. If I am eating out I will often ask my courses to be served all at the same time because of this.

I also however will eat salad as my only course, as the meal, adding beans, chickpeas, etc., nuts, for proteins.

If my memory serves me correctly historically-don;t ask me where I read this, I'm not doing the research and think that much lol, in Europe-with the wealthy of course, salads were palate cleansers between courses, so they would not be served at the beginning of a meal.

I'm looking forward to Joseon Gunman also, it starts here soon. ...... And yes! Lee Jun-ki looks faaaaantastic in Joseon period clothes!

Take care and I hope the smog clears up soon.

Hi Korfan!

Beside the cold I am feeling to hot but am good :) How are things there?

Yeah cold in hot weather sucks. Blanket off feels cold, blanket on feels to warm, and everything else is just hot no matter what.

He does doesn't he? Some people can just pull it of really well, and others just look a bit awkward/uncomfortable. He is definitivelly in the first category

Hi everyone! Hope you're enjoying your day! Happy Independence Day to the beanies living in the U.S.

Just want to say that I'm enjoying Fated to Love You a little bit more than High School King of Savvy which I also love out of all the other current dramas. Cried a lot in E02 and realized that the last female lead character in a rom-com who made me cry was Miho in MGIAG (E03). I love Jang Nara!

Still downloading episodes of Doctor Stranger but haven't watched where I left off (was it 6 episodes ago? not sure)

Caught up with Joseon Gunman and read the latest recap and don't understand the disappointment about it. Also don't get the negative remarks about Nam Sangmi's acting. I'm actually watching this drama more because of her, not Lee Jung-ki.

Trot Lovers is just okay.

You're All Surrounded is fun character-wise, but the plot's kinda dragging at this point. Wished it was 16 or 18 episodes instead.

Hope to catch up on Golden Cross and A New Leaf now that my drama slump's over. Also hope that Marriage Not Dating would be a good watch.

Anyway, have a great weekend you all!

Still, I didn't ask for the recap. I just wanted to vent how excited I was for it and the show.

A soggy 4th of July as Hurricane Arthur passes by on his way north and further out to sea.

Current stuff I'm watching: HSKOS, Joseon Gunman, Trot Lovers, Fated To Love You, Roommate

High School King of Savvy: Squee. Seo In-guk and Lee Ha Na are wonderful.

Trot Lovers: Jung Eun-ji and Shin Sung-rok and little sis, Yoo Eun-mi, keep up the good work.

Joseon Gunman: Looking forward to next week.

Roommate: I liked Jo Se-ho's mother.

Fated To Love You: Like it so far.

Wife got a car to replace the one the guffer totaled. We also picked up a new kitty cat from the car shop. Smokey grey with blackish stripes. Inner city cat that's not afraid of the older boys, lol.

My choice is Smokey. We usually call our cats by several names anyways.

Our daughter calls them one thing, (their "official" name for vet purposes). My wife and I give them names as we see fit.

Let's see we have:

Peachfuzz 15+ years old, aka Fuzzy, Fuzzy chan, Fuzz Fuzz, Natural Born Killer, Peach

Tiger Lily: aka Deok-Hee (evil mom from ISYG), hated Oliver at first, but then nursed him, saving his life. Dotes on her boy, Hyung

Corazón : Primarily white cat with a black heart on top of his head. aka Hyung or Hyung Hyung, because he adopted a abandoned cat as his little bro. He's Deok-Hee's son.

Oliver: Orange and white creamsicle cat. Abandoned baby that we thought wasn't going to make it. aka as 'Rangejello. At first shunned by Deok-Hee, she nursed him back to health. In ISYG, Deok-Hee was cruel to her step son, that's why it's perfect for her.

Your kitties names sound just like our house. Right now we only have Mimi: black & White tuxedo cat, 12 years old. She now lives under the chair in my bedroom, although when she was younger, she liked to go outside a lot. We call her Meems, Skitty-kitty, and my husband calls her Stoop.

LOL - For me, my parents get me and my older sister mixed up, calling the nickname for the other child, ever since we were little. And since we are seven years apart, it's even more amusing.

My brother hates nicknames for his children, so naturally as the baby sister I created ones just to annoy him that the rest of the family started to use. 8-)

Anyway I only managed to catch up with Trot Lovers. Episode 3 was a roller-coaster ride, we get to see our 2 main characters stumble into the deep holes of failure? and stuff. Quite an emotional episode but there's still some awesome scenes like Ji Hyunwoo x Lil Sis.

Episode 4 was a much happier episode! I love Eunji's temper! AND ALSO Jaekyung oppa! From Satan > Adorkable 4D CEO. He's so adorable and whenever he steal glances and does his super adorable smile at Eunji I JUST CANNOT. And also Shin Bora's character is pretty punchable in the face

Fwiw, I'm going to post a link to Jean Shepard's telling of

"Ludlow Kissel and the *Dago Bomb that Struck Back", "
about a neighborhood drunk and his disastrous fireworks escapades.

http://www.snuhfiles.com/sound/jean-shepherd-lud_kissell.mp3

Readers are probably familiar with Jean as the narrator , (and author ), of the comedy classic A Christmas Story.

He rambles a bit at the beginning but it's well worth it. He certainly had a way with words and his oral narrative style of story telling is to be marveled at.

In today's politically correct world, Jean would probably be crucified.

* Dago is not to be construed as anti-Italian but rather pro as per Jean.

Read more about Jean here.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well today! ........ Happy 4th of July to all in the U.S.!

This week I've been having weird computer problems where I've been getting booted off this site after a couple of minutes, but things seem to be fine now. Yay! ...... I couldn't find anything wrong in my computer so perhaps it was just a temporary internet thing. It happens.

I want to sincerely thank the Beanies who responded a couple of days ago to my post regarding my computer/Dramabeans site concern. Your recommendations were certainly helpful. Thank you! ....... I wanted to thank you back at the original post, but I could never get back to it because of the problem I was having.

Watched this week:

Dr. Stranger - Yeah, I've reached the half-way point. ....... Um, ok. ...... *baffled look*

You're All Surrounded - Loving it! Fun and interesting.

A New Leaf - Liking it also. ..... The amnesia just started, so I'll see where it goes.

Warrior Baek Dong-soo - Oh so good!

That's about it for now. Everyone take care and have a great Friday and a great Fourth!

Working on polyglit, mostly proofreading while counting down the final days to campaign launch and praying that the press release will do something. I have the translators, programmers, back up programmer, site design, just need the funds. If 1,000 people donate 10 dollars US I'd be over my goal.

Joseon Gunman- The writing better catch up with the acting because my heart is bleeding for the actors. They need juicier roles. I want less fridged women, more women agency and I'd like to see some complications in the revenge quest arise before it starts.

Fall in Love with Both of Me- My mind is going numb. The whole rich family needs anxiety medication, I think. This is my unprofessional opinion.

Watched Love Come- The scneario creeped me out. It occured to me that a lot of dramas seem to favor the stalker type. That's a trope I dislike up there with the "You can change your man" trope.

Half watching You're All Surrounded. I *want* to be invested in the characters, but something I can't put my finger on is preventing me from getting there.

Love Myself or You- Mind is going numb. a little less numb than the previous.

Love Scenario- (J- Movie) Was sweet. I liked it. I liked the ending too and was a good break down on several points with a nice little mini twist at the end.

The Romantic President, though older, gave me flashbacks of Prime Minister and I, making me think that was one of the original influences for that drama. A lot of the features are similar--eligible Bachelor, single father figure and a child that isn't doing so hot in school. Overall, it was a nice breezy relief to the current trend of dramas, as the teacher was both relatable and wasn't a push over once she fell in love. Plus it has the added bonus of having someone who is transgender as a character and no one, but the general public flinching.

And I want to tweet this to KBS Drama...
Im Joo Eun is a Jjang Nodame! Really she'd act a complete Nodame.

@KBS_drama 1988-Jan-07 임주은씨은 짱 노다메 (Nodame) 입니다! 진짜 왕장 노다메를 연극 할 거예요.

Have a great Fourth of July!

I'd like to get my hands on the rights for that and get it translated through the website.

Happy Friday, everyone! And happy Fourth to all of us in the States!!

I'm finally back in the swing of drama watching, and I'm in the middle of some good stuff now:

Joseon Gunman: though I haven't watched this week's episodes yet. The drawback of getting your mother to watch a drama with you is having to watch on her timetable...

God's Quiz: which is fantastic. Whatever disappointment I had with season 3 is gone in season 4 so far. It continues to both break and warm my heart with every episode, and I love how it simultaneously explores the darkest sides of humanity while offering hope for the best of what we can be. Also, Jin Woo and Kyung Hee are one of my favorite drama couples ever. I love so much their trust in each other and how open they've become with each other. And how long it took to get here only makes every interaction that much sweeter.

Also just started Return of Iljimae because of the praise it received on the ratings page, and I love the fairytale feel. Too bad it's not on Viki, because I can only imagine how much more beautiful it would look in better quality. But regardless, I'm excited about where it's headed.

And finally, I'm also caught up on Running Man. I thought they did a pretty good job this time balancing screen time for everyone, and I think the two foreigners were my favorites. ;) I also loved how Ji Sung and Joo Ji Hoon kept expecting something much more high-tech.

In other news, I'm going to Kcon! I've always though it would be fun, but I never actually considered going, even when my sister told me she was going with a friend, until VIXX announced they were going... So now I have a ticket. (The things we do for idols...) But now I can try to go see the Dramabeans panel too!

Anyway, have a great weekend, everyone!

Hi. Tonight – the national song and dance festival ! Woohoo! First up dance party with 10 000 dancers. Then folk music concert with 6000 performers. Then song festival.....nearly 34 000 performers. Take that.
First time in a long while to have reason to talk ROOMMATES first. In short. Men are the weaker sex. True. It was so funny, how all guys surrendered (more than surrendered....were smashed – by spicy foor. No, make it pulverized, squished, kaput). Drama-worthy moments. Also Chan Yeol is so adorable, I want to make a hundred toys like Bom has but of Chan Yeol and line them up around the room. I am creepy. How he twitched in the car, and the „You´re growing now, right?” ahaha I just.
Ahh, I laughed so much. Thanks, Roommates!

Not watching any of the current ones that i wanna watch like Joseon Gunman or King of High School cause i really like watching my stuff on Viki and i'm holding out hope that they will eventually get the license. Also these ones are looking to be sooo good...i can just marathon them all at once!!

Yes to the people above who mentioned TEN3! I'm gonna need OCN to step that up please.... and while they are at it, please bring Vampire Prosecutor back!!! I needs to know whats gonna happen!!!!!!

Also yes to Lee Min Ki coming back to dramaland....i recently rewatched just the first two episodes of SUFBB for him!!! u needs to come back ASAP!!!!!!

in Real Life, i bought and tried Crest White Strips yesterday!!! It was fine till about 5 hours after when i got the worst tingling sensation one can imagine, in my teeth!!! Horrible! Dunno if m gonna keep using it. Gonna talk to my dentist and see what she says!

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Dramafever has an exclusive license for Joseon Gunman and, a new site, kdrama.com has an exclusive license for King of High School. So you might be out of luck when it comes to watching them on viki, my favorite site too :(

But, believe me, they are worth making the jump.

Viki certainly has the better subtitles. I wrote to dramafever about the poor subs for various dramas. they wrote back: asked me what kind of device I was using. Recently I noticed that dramafever is advertising for people to subtitle and they're offering to pay.

I really dont like that all these k websites are doing these exclusives stuff....cause it only hurts us the viewers who are trying to watch these shows. Different platforms work for different people and i would really appreciate if these websites recognize that.

Yea i heard that dramafever subs suck! M glad that they are trying to improve their subs but they did some shady stuff in the past that i cant get over and i will never watch dramas on their site.

I don't like it either. It forces us to get memberships at all these different sites just for a few shows we want to watch that the other sites don't have. I'm actually to the point where I need to discontinue one of my memberships, but I can't decide which because Joseon Gunman is on dramafever! :(

That said, if I have to choose, I'd rather support the drama and actors than boycott a licensed site, but that's just me.

Hi all:

Much going on here with the moving plans.

Dramas:

My dear cat: sweet, derivative, okay.

Joseon Gunman: love everything about it. Forgot how much i love sajeuk. LJK's acting is so good and he does so many wonderful subtle things. The needy way he looked at the heroine --almost like a son taking advice from his mom or boy taking advice from his wiser noona-- was so touching. He seems to learn so much from her..and their love is a mix of tutor/maternal/romantic love. Way sweet and interesting.

High School King of Savvy:Really organic storytelling, as organic as one can get in kdrama. Feels like a real true-to-life noona romance whch means there is the possibility that she might be turned off by him when she finds out about his age. So there's a slim chance for him getting a broken heart. His realization of his crush on her -- wow! great acting. I never really got Seo In Guk but now i do. Am smitten. Also smitten with Lee Soo-Hyuk. A really great cast of characters and sweet hang-out drama.

Trot Lovers: Okay, and wishing the plot wasn't being so rushed. This bothers me because I'm thinking there'll be a lot of shenanigans and flaky sub-plots when I wanted it to be more about music.

You're all surrounded: Awaiting bromance. Not a lotta women-to-women bonding in this drama, which i expect is okay.

Yoona's Street: Am awaiting Eng Subs.

Roommate: So sweet.

Wonderful Season: What all is happening? The marriage? And now what?

Have a great weekend, all.

Wonderful Season....

Carole, I wondered the same. The marriage was so anticlimactic for me. Somehow it seemed we took forever to get there and then rushed right through that.

*** SPOILER ***

They time jump was odd. Why the wait? Why were others married ahead of them? Then there was what felt to me to be the strange absence of Ma Ri at the ceremony. No sign of her at all, not sitting with the family and not even sitting with the other guests. Made me think they broke up.

I hope we are not going to have to deal with conman story line for 20+ episodes.

Happy weekend, beanies. And Happy 4th of July, Americans.

So is anyone watching Feel Good Day (the daily or weekend drama?) I'm not but I heard it was good? Should I check it out?

Otherwise I'm behind on everything and not SUPER invested in any of the new shows I have seen. I've only watched episode one of Trot Lovers and High School King of Savvy though so I probably should give them more of a shot before I give up on them. Looking forward to Discovery of Romance though. And Marriage, Not Dating.

I only need one show to pull me in. I'm bad at time management anyway so it's hard for me to juggle more than one. Sort of feel like I'm in a drama rut.

In other news, I've started a Korean class. Right now we're focusing on learning the characters and basic greetings, etc. Fun times.

If you're talking about Feel Good Day aka Glorious Day the weekend drama--definitely do it! It is what it is--feel good. Sure you have one really super annoying character, but other than that, its really makjang free (as promised by SBS) and its easy to become invested in all the characters and not just one pair.

Plus, if you liked smile you--this story is by the same writer and there are a lot of similarities in terms of pacing and tone of the writing, which I appreciated in smile you.

Would definitely recommend it :)

Happy OT

This was a busy, busy week and I am still in the process of catching up with the dramas of this week.

I’ve actually just managed to watch both eps of Trot Lovers and Doctor Stranger and of all the other shows I’m currently watching (Joseon Gunman, You’re Surrounded, Fated To Love You) one ep. Fated To Love You is on my list as well and High School King wants to be watched as well^^ Good thing my summer holiday just started!

I am so in love with Trot Lovers and this week was still full of fun and ridiculousness but showed also a lot of heart which is great!

Doctor Stranger… 2 more to go! And I really, really hope that the next project HeadsNo2 is going to recap is actually good. She hasn’t had much luck with her last recap projects!

Joseon Gunman continues to rock my world and I didn’t know how much I missed Lee Jin Ki until now^^

Other than the little I’ve seen of dramas I was able to pretty much get my variety fix which means more cuteness from Haru’s family in Superman Returns (can they just get their own show?!).

Running Man was a bit strange this week. I liked the episode but something was off. Maybe bc we didn’t really get a proper guest introduction?! But Kwang Soo’s interaction with his hyungs was great to watch =)

Someone enlighten me but that 1N2D Season 3 episode was a ‘no trip’ episode bc of the strike they had a few weeks back, right? It was a funny episode though and I loved how they cracked up while watching embarrassing scenes :D

But the highlight of this week was definitely the 30 Seconds To Mars concert on Wednesday =) It’s not easy to be a Mars fan bc they take their time to release new albums and although they do tour most of the time in between albums when you live in Austria and don’t have enough money to travel to the closest location outside AUT then it’s best to start praying early (or not get sick like 3 years ago T__T)^^ BUT this year they were in Austria and it was AWESOME =)
The location was a small castle here in Upper Austria where there are several concerts in June/July every year and that made it even more special! It’s a very pretty location (here’s a picture if you’re interested ;) www. liferadio .at/uploads/pics/ClamRock-7276_654x208_01.jpg) and not even the rain could dampen the mood! I sang, screamed and jumped with Jared Leto and it was one of those nights I’ll never forget <3

Question: What does "eating the rabbit in your house" mean on You're All Surrounded?

Seriously, I've searched the internet and I can't find it as an idiom OR as a folk tale.

Thank you in advance to ANYONE who answers.

I can't find a reference to it either but I'm sure it's basically the same as "you don't sh*t where you sleep"

Which urban dictionary defines as:
This phrase means "do not have romantic relationships with any co-workers." Basically, you don't want to make yourself uncomfortable (by potentially having a romantic relationship get ugly, or "sh**ting") at the place where you work ("where you eat").

The "don't date co-workers" TOTALLY makes sense. (Not the don't do it, part, but how it relates to the show. Thank you!)

Hello Beanies,

My brain is still too full. I rarely sit down to enjoy a drama.

I am listening to more KPop over on Mindpasta.com. Having a place besides Dramabeans where I can pop in 24 hours a day and find people to play games with and squeal about KDramas, KPop, and all things Korean is fun.

People I have never met (only on discussion threads or Facebook) are now sending me things to help me learn Korean. Whoo-hoo!

I am still amazed at the number of non-native English speakers whom I meet and have conversations with.

Doing the #100HappyDays. Fun thinking all day long "What makes me happy today?"

I have been studying Korean for 4 months now. Still haven't figured out a system! haha. I like my online Korean class a lot. 7 classes so far, I am basically just working on numbers, how much is this, telling time.

Life seems so busy. I have no time to get sick! Feeling better this week.

I find people's faces so interesting. I have done a "Faces of" for LingQ, Interpals, and Mindpasta. Some day, I would like to do one for Dramabeans, but it is a lot harder contacting everyone to get permission and get a photo.

Then again, I don't need to see people's faces. I just like you for you, know what I mean? You are my friends, dear Beanies. Love you one and all.

((( hugs ))) Julia

The only thing I hate about Florida more than the heat is hurricanes and while I can't do anything about the heat, I can take me frustrations out by refusing to call them by their official names and instead calling them asshat #1 through the end.

I don't understand why people like High School King, I hate it, couldn't finish the second episode.

Trot Lovers- I love it, can't wait to see what happens next week.

I don't understand how Korean producers can find people like Eun-ji, SISTAR's Hyorin, to a lesser extent SNSD's Taeyeon, I'm sure there's more those are just the only ones I can think of at the moment, and put them in a girl group. Are they jealous? Is their thought process like this, "She sings better than I do, let's bury her in a group so no one will ever know she can sing."

You're All Surrounded- I still find it quite enjoyable.

Hello Beanies, Happy OT!!

I hope everyone had a nice week, I know I did. This week sure flew by fast.

I wonder how one when suffering from a hangover would vow never to drink alcohol even smell it, and then that very same day drink again. Lol I keep saying I need to change my friends.

In almost every Korean drama I’ve watched, there’s always a slap delivered and most times, for very very stupid reasons. The one that irritates me the most, is the one that happens in the workplace e.g. a superior slapping a subordinate. If you are going to admonish someone, use your words. And the way it’s portrayed in dramas leave me wondering if it’s all just fiction, or if it’s prevalent in Korea. Way too much slaps, it needs to be toned down.

Dramas :
High school king of savvy : Love Love absolutely love this drama. Soo-Young is starting to grow on me, still waiting for the bromance between Min-seok and Jin-woo.

Trot lovers : I’m sure in that 2nd lead corner, I totally love Geun-woo, Choon-hee, Byul and president Jo. Don’t like Joon-hyun one bit. Lol those two gangsters are already a package deal with Choon-hee.

Fated to love you : Loved the first 2 episodes. Been reading that the Taiwanese version went full-on melo midway, hoping that’s not going to be the case with this.

YAAS : I swear I can’t take Tae ll seriously, not with that lanky stature and very young face, he looks like a teenager playing cop.

Joseon gunman : This drama is so so good, I was able to initiate a friend into the KD world with this drama, dude loved the first 2 episodes.

New Leaf : All I can say the last episode disappointed me, by the end of the episode, I was just like UH?? Wtf??

Faith : This drama has a special place in my heart, though I still don’t fully understand the time-travel concept. And i totally agree with the person who said there should be a Woldachi spin-off and calendar.

Currently watching That winter, the wind blows : Sleeping on the same bed with the bro sure, but cuddling, this drama seems to think that’s okay. Aside from that icky fact, so far it’s been good and I’ve been enjoying it immensely. That So-ra chick sure crazy..

Have a great weekend guys, and happy fourth of july!!!

HSKS: The chemistry between SIG & LHN is tooooooo good. SIG's acting awed me!

Joseon Gunman: LEE JUNKIIII. I really like the chemistry between the leads. Haven't seen ep 4 yet.

FTLY: This drama is so funny. I had great laugh watching the first two episodes. Unfortunately I just marathoned Tree With Deep Roots and I'm not used to Jang Hyuk's comedic character in this drama yet.

Have anyone here watched Will It Snow For Christmas? Is it good? I truly miss Song Joongki :(

Have a nice day!

Hello...

Wild Chives is finally over at 26. Hmmmm.. as i told a dear friend, i need those hours back... guhhhh... not recommended except for the teens who were lovely.

I started Joseon Gunman but the background music bothers me a lot. My son loves it tho..

Fated To Love You.. i think i'd like it better than the TW originals.

On a personal note, I got a firmed job offer in the city with better pay & benefits. A different job scope, in retail industry. Look forward to it but still somewhat conflicted about leaving current employer. Need to decide whether to really give notice next week. Decision.. decision...

Need to catch up on Triangle, Hotel King and Wonderful Season.

Definitely needed more time with the younger cast. Although I like the adult cast as actors, the older version of Joon Soo seemed like a caricature of his younger self - somehow the personality changed too much and was confusing to watch.

Da Hae in the adult form is unlikable (Character, not the actress) and I kept waiting for her to acknowledge and feel bad about what she did back in high school. Zero remorse for causing such a thing to happen. And then the car thing as an adult. Really? Ugh.

I don't like the ending and felt we needed more time. Too many things lingering... wanted to see folks to find out about what younger Da Hae did, see the reaction of the adult characters to that, for adult Jang Gook to know about younger Joon Soo's note he left with little bro that was intercepted, etc. And the odd thing was the story line of high school best friend's (Moo-Cheol) younger sister. Why did she have a larger story line than he did?? And it was annoying until the last 5 minutes of it.

I didn't hate this but the adult piece felt strange and there was a loss of whatever momentum and interest they managed to build.

I started watching Wild Chives last week. I really did enjoy watching the teens. Last night I watched the first 2 episodes after they become grown ups. I agree with your assessment completely. Older Joon Soo is a confusing character. I think the actor is playing him all wrong!! I think he was mis-cast in this drama series. First, he's shorter and more petite than the teen version. Second, his character is not at all the smart, pensive teen version at all!!! I expect him to be serious yet kind and considerate. He may be jovial but old Joon Soo is just a joke. Plus, I expected him to have a better or bigger career than only a manager.

After reading your post, I'm now considering dropping this drama and not wasting my time.

@ Waiting..

well, echoing you.. i have zero expectation for the adult casts after we fast forward to present time. But i really don't get their motivation.

DH is a doctor. I don't expect her to be all saintly but it seems she doesn't feel guilty at all. guess the writer insists on her to be the evil 2nd female lead. I ended up hating almost all of the characters. The one who annoyed me the most is Moo Chul's sister. So unlikeable. What with Samchon hanging around young girls? (First Ham Choo, then the brat).

Whenener im in full rant mode after watching each ep (thanks dear friend for listening to me faithfully) i have to remind myself of the synopsis.. (paraphrasing) female struggles to overcome hardship in life, yadda yadda yadda... back in 2002 it seems realistic, but in 2014, it kinda forgot that and went all over the place.. gaddd, i hate the lingering.. i would have expect the cat to be out of the bag sooon but never did. Oh i literally headdesk like at least 3x..

But the silver lining, Conman! he kinda redeem himself in the end eventho i expected something more explosive (i have a soft spot fr Jung Chan ever since YAB, so yeah, thanks fr not ruining it for me). the partner is in HSK right now and i hate him at sight.

ahahahaha, Taekyung/Bo-won were the cutest starter non-romance ever. They had such great chemistry, but I liked that the love line was not treated in the typical kdrama way because, you know, they both had other things to do like saving a Head of State.

I loved that he was actually able to declare his interest in her in his indirect way by the end of the series, but the rate they were doing, I fear they'll take a decade to go on an actual date :)

Actually all the events in the drama took place in the span of about 1-2 weeks in dramatime ie from assasination attempt until Yangiri visit so his pacing was just about right considering the more pressing matters at hand :) Think Yoo Chun-Ha Sun would make a great couple in real life too.

Hello Beanies,
Happy 4th of July. I'm working in the Visitor's Center at Mono Lake this afternoon. I hope it's just crazy with people. Every time I am there, I learn more. I am now prepared with the names of the birds in several languages. I figure, if I can't pronounce it, I can at least point at the word on the piece of paper. (Not many Koreans, or Asians, come by--except people of Indian decent. Lots of Europeans, especially Germans, Swedes, and Czechs.)

Am I the only person watching Triangle? I recently got hooked and am watching one episode per day. Of course, Lee Beom-soo is fabulous, but who knew that Kim Jaejoong would grow into such a great actor? I mean, I always like him (and consider him the most beautiful man on the planet), but he always seemed a bit awkward. In this role, he is just nailing it. I wonder if he is getting good coaching from his sunbaes. And Kim Byung-ok as the evil Chairman Go is scaring me to death. And that hair! Love it!

I am almost to the end of subbing A Little Love Never Hurts. Episode 38--I started crying as I subbed. I don't think I cried when I originally watched the scene, but then, when I focus on the language and how things are said--oh, it was just so sad. (Don't want to put in a spoiler and give many details). I emailed with some other subbers and they said that happens to them too. Somehow, when you watch, you are paying attention to many things and maybe don't take what they are talking about seriously. But then, when subbing, it just hits you--this is the scene where the relationship fell apart...

Everything else I am watching is just so-so. Don't know why I feel that way. I do like You're All Surrounded and the double meaning to the title. The four young detectives really have formed a family that surrounds each member in turn. Someone said the story was dragging, and I have to agree with that. I was starting to wonder how many episodes it has.

Happy OT!!!
YAAS:I clearly don't know what is going around in that drama, such a disappointment, even though I am a Lee Seung-gi fan,I just can't help but complain about the drama. It did pretty well in the relationship part and all and that is the only reason why I still watch that drama. They really did fail in the case of romance, having such a great chemistry between the leads I just can't believe that they aren't utilizing it.So many situations they could have used without having to drag in a useless act to make the romance bloom.
And just how long will I have to wait to get a good Seung-gi drama? That guy have a great potential, and will we really have to wait for decades to get him act on another drama like King 2 Hearts?

Trot:May I ship Shin Sung-rok and Eun-ji?They are sooooo cute together.I just can't see myself liking the main lead. It's just that even with the character, acting her is much better that the typical snob that the lead is.I just hope that I don't hate them because I am starting to like the drama and I don't want to go on and ship something so hard as to feel bad.And the story is okay, but the performance actually overpowers it.But it the music that caught my heart,it is the first time that I am hearing trot and I love it!!

Fated to Love You:Let me say that I am really glad that they didn't copy the original Taiwanese drama, even though the characters are the same the atmosphere and their behavior is different which is great.Though it is a bit faulty in minor details,I really do like it.And the plot is prefect for my taste. And how glad I am that the guy is not the usual snobby guy, though Jang Hyuk's laugh at times really do remind me of Cha Seung-won or should I say His Highness Do-Ko Jin?well what is the difference?

And once again, why the hell is OCN not working on the season 3 s of any of the hit dramas?
VP3 and Ten 3?
TEN3-I really want to know more about the whole F cases.Though I don't know what more is there for the character to do in that as he is not the one who killed the chief's fiancee. But still would be fun to see the team's unity again.
VP3:I really hope that Jung-in is not dead,I really want her to turn into a vampire.Maybe in the end of season 3?
and who the hell is Bad Blood?Though I want them to have a season 3 I really hope that it is nothing like season 2.Well who am I kidding,as long as I see the whole team on the screen I will sit through anything.Just hope that they will retain the actors. If not then just count me out

I'm boarding that ship myself, they just vibe very well in a weird way. Like I know both leading men are a lot older than Eunji but somehow the age gap feels less apparent with Shin Sung-rok than Ji Hyun-woo (whose character amuses me, but he's still an ass and I can't root for him to be with her)

Fated to Love You actually intensified my problem with Trot Lovers. I feel like the Ji Hyun-woo charater is trying to be like Dokko Jin but he's not doing a good job. I actually think it's the writers that are faltering there, not Ji Hyun-Woo. They're doing good in other areas, but they aren't writing in ANY redeeming moments for Ji Hyun-Woo's character. Lee Gun may be cocky and outrageous and have his occasional jerky moments, but the writers are also portraying him as an earnest lover and have him help our lead girl out of kindness in the first 2 episodes, thus prooving that he really isn't that bad of a guy.

I was fine with Ji Hyun-Woo being a bit of a jerk, as long as that wasn't all there was to it, but the writers are instead making him a complete jerk and that's a LOT harder to act. Here's hoping that Ji Hyun-Woo will pull a Lee Seung-gi a la Shining Inheritance (seriously impressive feat, he was a total jerk for almost ten episodes, and became my favorite by the end)

Hi Everybody! Was so looking forward to this OT.

Ok, I've worked out a strategy. I will post twice, once for the general drama commentary and another time for the fashion commentary aka Fashion Rants & Raves, LOL!

HSKS: I love SIG and his mole! Cute eyes too! It's really impressive how he projects MS the teen boy even in the way he stands around, kinda stooped and gelatinous vs the strong stance of HS the adult. Also loving his "relationship" with the moss ball, complaining about noona to it.
I'm still in love with JW but the road will be long for that delicious man, alas. I just want to know what happened to his mother. and him, because he looks like he was abused. Still, how gorgeous was he, relax and smiling during the biking contest?
As for SY, am sooo GLAD she only got a partial makeover. And thought it was touching how MS told her to put on her glasses.

I noticed that Viki added all 6 episodes but the subbing is excruciatingly slow. I do watch it elsewhere but I would prefer to watch it on the tablet via my Viki app.

YAAS: I'm behind, didn't watch this week's episodes to see how the post-kiss was handled...and strangerly not bothered by that. I think the story is dragging and my interest is flagging.

FTLY: I watch about 3 episodes of the original Tdrama, and love JH enough to try it. Maybe if my internet works well this week-end, I will.

TL: I love Eunji very much but the story is a bit of a mess. I'm trying to be interested but something is off. In love with SRR's crazy President character. Complete fruitcake, that one. And the rival is a bit pitiful, her mother is just soo overbearing!

JG: Also on the catch-up list but I loved the first 2 episodes.

I'm desperately behind on Flower Grampas and it's almost over!

But the series I am looking forward to starts today, Marriage Not Dating aka Marriage Without Love. I just loved the teasers!

And now the Fashion Rants & Raves!

People, I'm in love!

I'm crazy in love with whoever picks the suits for HSKS. That windowpane plaid suit that Jin Woo wears at the beginning of episode 6 of High School King is wonderful.(And LSH in it!) The lapels are symmetrical, the plaid is match across the front AND AT THE SHOULDERS+SLEEVES. Worse still, the pattern makes a line right down the center of the sleeve.

People, I die.

I liked less the dark tie with the grey suit. I think a pale blue or straw yellow tie would have worked better. I like the idea of polka dotted tie + striped shirt but I think they should have stayed with the same temperature of "cold" grey blues.

Fangirling aside: LSH, you walk that mental catwalk, baby!

Could someone read the end credits and tell me who makes the suits? I know I focus on LSH a lot but SIG looks great too as do most of the directors. In the shoulders at least.

The one thing I am emphatically NOT FEELING are the neo-Crepe sole shoes the younger guys keep wearing, in particular MS as HS for work. That light sole contrasts too much, IMO, with the dark suits he wears.

Oh, well, I'll just keep my eyes above the waist. The tie pr0n in this show is just unbelievable. Another one was A New Leaf of which I saw the first few episodes. Delicious!

All is not rosy, however and I have a Rant in me: kdrama lipstick. What the!?!?!?

In YAAS, the Birking B*tch has some seriously jarring lip colors. That coral, those pinks. It's all I can see. She's like a decoupage face: red hair, pink or orange lips, everything else beige.

But the thing I will never get behind is the Consumptive Lip they keep doing on the characters. Like Gook. You know, the "natural" outline, matching the skin, with the center lip being pink(er). I'm not sure if it works in medium shots but close ups just ruin it. They all look either really hungry or really dehydrated, to my eye.

That's it for today. I couldn't watch too many episodes this week because my internet was really slow otherwise I'm sure I would have more to talk about, LOL!

lakaribane--Your rants make me pay more attention to the fashion in the dramas. I agree with you about the lips on YAAS. Sometimes all I look at are the lips and forget to read the subs. Distracting.

Check out Triangle for some nice suits. I was noticing last night that the plaid matched up really well on Chairman Go's suit. And you have to see his hair. The blonde gets wider and wider every week. I wonder if that's somehow symbolic to the story... Oh, and I noticed that many of the men hike up their pants when they sit down (with their jackets unbuttoned too). The women, on the other hand, have some ugly costumes. The dealers have these peplin tops in peach, which doesn't look TOOO bad on my screen, but the police women are simply pitiful. I guess we're all supposed to be paying attention to the men in the show, since it is about three brothers.

the Consumptive Lip is one of the biggest trends to come out of Korean beauty in the last few years, I've been seeing it in dramas since at least 2012 and it doesn't look like letting up any time soon since it's all over their fashion magazines too.

I confess I rather like the look if it is done right, but many kdramas.....don't.

Triangle has some very sharp suits on the men, but Young-dal got some really ugly ones. I wonder if it's a character detail, to show that he's new to dressing up so his taste remains a bit unrefined and he still wears a few garish things.

(I really do prefer him in his jeans and leather jacket with his hair falling forward - sorry suit lovers!)

LOL.. i used to be very critical on the styling of my kDramas.. but then i just sorta let it go tho i've been known among my circle to drop/not watching a show if the wardrobe hurts my eyes. I can just shake head at the ugly sweaters, pants, flowery shirt, man lipstick, very short skirt, etc..

I do enjoy your rant.. another LOL when you wrote decoupage (cos i do serviette/napkin/tissue decoupage in RL) to describe it and im so amused. It reminds me of someone who decoupage exactly that way which is totally the opposite of my style. IMHO I find it garish but there's no right or wrong in craft/art as everything else cos beauty really does lie in the eye of the beholder.

Now im wondering if i should now take a peek at the show (not watching)

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to say Joseon Gunman is killing it for me--the angst, the tears, the sweet revenge that's soon to come! Can't wait! Its really making me miss Princess Man a whole lot to the point where I'm contemplating rewatching it--though not sure if I can handle the emotional turmoil all over again...

As for King of High School--am I the only one who wishes that the two leads be friends?? allies?? Must they have a romance? Can't imagine how the younger sister would handle it. I guess I'm still hoping for a soo young and jin woo pairing.

Glorious Day = my crack drama. It's the perfect family drama with the right amount of humor.

Fated to love you--I checked out the first 10 minutes and couldn't do it. Love Jang Hyuk but...not like that :( Does it get better? Does he get better? Never watched the TW version to compare.

Also, I'm thinking of starting Bride of a Century or Triangle...not sure which to start first.

Hello everyone.

Just curious, anyone here who does not watch currently airing shows? I just can't. Cliffhangers are like my best enemies. I've been always the type who loves to marathon dramas.

*sigh* I need a drama buddy. There's just nobody to gush over with Korean dramas in real life.

the "ride" is what makes watching kdramas fun! you get to come here to SQUEEE or commiserate your angst with like minds. then you get great recommendations on other dramas to watch during the rest of the week while you wait for the next two eps to post.
endless fun, interesting dramas, more of your favorite actor's dramas, etc., no rest for the weary....

I like to marathon too, but once I started watching current dramas and coming here to read the comments, well, I was hooked on keeping current. I just get a lot more out of the dramas when they are current.

On the other hand, there are two many to watch all at the same time, so I have to marathon some because I heard they were good.

No K-D lovers in my life either. Everyone thinks I'm crazy and yet they all love British TV, which I find boring by comparison.

Marathons....Just love them, though I prefer them over watching the drama live it is really bad,one thing I look like a zombie and other is that I really do feel different about the drama when I see it in live mode. For example A Gentleman's Dignity was a drama that I liked when I marathoned it,bu I am pretty sure that I would not have liked it in the other way.Especially to to end, which nothing could help.

You may already know all of this but I'll throw it out there anyway- There are a lot of people that do both, they live watch some, and save others to marathon. You might start here with posting examples of dramas you like to try to make some connections, or bringing up a topic on OT for discussion regarding a favorite drama. You may also try checking out blogs of beanies (their names on the comments they post are in yellow, click on it) and see if their tastes run parallel to yours. Check out the blog links on the bottom of the DB page here, and also blogger links on the various beanie blogs sites to find other connections. When you find bloggers with similar tastes, comment on the blogs, and talk to them about the dramas. See if they tweet. Eventually you will meet someone that you will be able to talk about dramas and squee with.

YUM. I went to Korean BBQ again this week. It was awesome. This time I actually got people to drink some Soju with me and so it was exciting to try that for the first time.

So a few weeks ago, I was lightly watching most of the dramas, but now I'm getting addicted to the ones airing! Especially Fated to Love You, which got off to such a fantastic start. No seriously. It was hilarious, and it's casting is spot-on. I'm going to love this one.

Even ones that I was enjoying like You're All Surrounded, went through a phase where I was only tentatively interested (although that was likely because of the lack of episodes for those few weeks etc.), but now I'm loving where that drama is right now and am much more excited than I was. I love the relationships between the team and, without even realizing it, they've grown so close! And I just love how forward Dae Gu is being! I love when writers take a character that you expect to be in denial for a bunch of eps and just have him announce how he feels. The last time writers did that for me was in Master's Sun with So ji-subs character.

As for the others:

Glorious Day: Love it.
Yoona's Street: Love it.
High School King of Savvy: Love it.
God's Quiz 4: Love it.
Triangle: Just watched a few eps, I like it and while probably skim-watch it.
Trot Lovers: OK. So this one is an interesting one. I do actually really like it, I'm just going through MAJOR QIHM withdrawals. So it does lose out slightly to some of the others SO FAR that is. That could possible change.

And that list doesn't even include my all-time favorite!

JOSEON GUNMAN.

Episodes 1-8 have been subbed on darksmurfsubs, but unfortunately it seems that these episodes have not been updated to any streaming websites like the first ep was. The thing is you CAN stream the episodes on the darksmurfsubs website, something I didn't know. I always thought I had to download it and whenever I did, it didn't work. I finally fumbled around with it a bit though and figured it out.

So simply make an account there and go here: http://subtitle.darksmurfsub.com/qs-release/?uid=PP.QS.Yu.Nas.Street.2014-E02_720p-iPOP&tlang=
And you can begin to watch! :) Hope this helps!

Also I just watched the first ep of Marriage, Not Dating and I'm already shipping the couple quite a bit :) I've been a fan of the lead guy for a while, but he was never someone I personally attracted to. This drama may have changed that. I don't know what it is, but he seems so much more attractive to me. Han Groo is fantastic as well!

Hello Beanies,

YAS-Still watching, still okay.

HSK-Having trouble with the lead female character/actress. She is quite offputting with her weirdo facial expressions. Is she really stupid or just dorky and social awkward? Does she have some facial muscle or nerve disorder? I'm not being facetious, I just do not get what is going on there. Like the other stuff tho, and wow Lee Soo Hyuk, just saying, WOW. But not sure what is going on with this drama as a romance sitch with the leads? I just do not see dorky seretary as being okay with the I'm really a teenage reveal that has to happen as Seo in Guk's character is very much still a kid, he's not an old soul like Su-ha or a player like Cha Chi Soo. Is the sister actually a second lead love interest or what?

Dr. Stranger-Still wtf, still Hoon love. Miss the crazy hair.

Trot Lovers-Really enjoying it so far, but early days yet. The romance seems to be going to be fairly tame, typical cutesy stuff.

FILWM-is it over yet? Can we push ALL of the crazy ad family into the sea?

Love Myself or You- Like, other than just fall down already, gees. Girlfriend can't seen to walk until in the kitchen. Good thing there, knives, hot stoves, hello.

Grandpas-Heechul cut his hair, there goes the drinking game.

Fated to Love You-Not sure what to make of this drama. JH is seriously channeling Oska and Dokko Jin with a side of The Master. JN is seriously channeling Gong Hyo Jin method of acting. Not sure how I feel about breaking the 4th wall. Really disturbed bout the basically roofied part. I do not find that cute or funny.

I see the bulge did not make it to broadcast. And the trailer close up has a whole new flavor when we now know who was undressing him.

I am sure I forgot a drama, I usually do lol.

Summer is slipping away from me, sigh.

Happy Viewing Beanies!

I'm thinking by the end of this drama someones going to do an Oska/Gun, Dokko/Gun, or some kind of mash up.

Hi Mar, fellow lover of FBRS, cha chi soo and yang eun bi.

Initially i thought the lead girl was trying to channel a bit of yang eun bi but then she does go a lot more overboard with her acting than lee chung ah ever did. For me, lee chung ah did it JUSt right but i know quite a few who thought she was overdone as well. In HSK. The girl is such a caricature that she is easy to imitate. I waver between finding her cute and finding her annoying and sometimes she is both at the same time! I dont know how she does that - cute and annoying!!

Agree with you on LSH. He is someone i thought looked really strange in pics and then suddenly in motion, he is really hot. Icy and hot.

Anyway, good to see you here. Its been long no?

ENZ! How is it going for you? HUGS! Yes, it has been a very long time. I pop in very rarely. I had to step away from some of the comment drama drama with the threads and keep to myself and a very small circle. Plus university will consume me through the next 2 years. Very glad to 'see' you. hit me up on my blog if I go off the DB grid again. We FBRS allies need to stick together!

Yes! Secretary Dorkanoona, she has some very weird Eunbi silly smiley nod vibe, but it's just creepy on this woman lol.

Eunbi was an okay level of weird. But this is coming from something that thinks Jandi was hysterically funny when everyone else hates her.

I'm not much for characters suddenly becoming more cool or stop wearing glasses or being weird completely throwing away all the previous character dev, just because hot guys like them randomly, but I will absolutely take it with Dorkanoona lol. Please.

Lee Soo-hyuk was off my radar. I remember him from White Christmas but I've not watched his other stuff to realize he had, uh, matured. It is nice to find a 'new' surprise or rediscover someone.

Happy OT! I can't believe the first of the quarterfinals is already done, and in just over a week there'll be no more World Cup :(

On the drama front, here goes:

Triangle: We got epic bro reunion last week, and then pain and angst and the breakup of my favourite couple in that show, this week (which I can understand but I'm still not happy with simply because I love them together so much). Not to mention the half-assed shrink's half-assed deduction and reveal of the final brother, which makes me look forward to next week.....speaking of which, I don't hate Yang-ha as much as I should, given what he's done. I don't know whether it's the writing or Im Siwan, but somehow he comes across to me as tragically misguided and warped and not flat-out evil. (and speaking of him, I am really looking forward to Misaeng and hope it is as good as the prequel I saw in which he played the character)

Trot Lovers: I did NOT expect the show to go so dark! It has heart, and a heroine who's really easy to love, but the true dark horses of this drama are:
1) Second Lead - even independent of the first lead being such an ass, I ship him with Chun-hee....and boy do they have great chemistry, I can't believe he's the same guy from YFAS!
2) Byul. Byul/Joon-hyun moments are the only times when I actually like Joon-hyun, but the child actress is delightful, she has a combination of innocence and wisdom beyond her years that just is lovely to watch.

Really loving Eunji here, she's got much better as an actress and works that trot like no one else - she's got the potential to legitimately be great. Not so into Ji Hyun-woo though, between terrible styling (even the coordis knew what was up when they put him in a wig) and general asshole character....but he'll grow, I hope.

Joseon Gunman: Week 1, I loved everything about it except for Soo-in's excessive aegyo and squeaky voice.....but thank god, it's gone. I like her much better when she isn't speaking like an airheaded tween.
And as of episode 4, this fish is hooked - this drama has everything I love, from oppa (I know he's the gunman of the title, but nearly swooned when he was shooting arrows at Choi Won-shin) to some great character relationships, especially within the Park family, to a fast-moving plot that somehow manages to stay tight without being convoluted. And next week, we get more of our second leading lady (whom I love) and oppa in a suit!!!

also I rewatched Twenty Years Old this week, and it was ADORABLE. Lee Kikwang and Lee Da-in are perfect together and perfectly cast - she carries the drama with absolute ease, which is stunning when you consider that this is her debut. And that ballad 'On Rainy Days' is lovely.

P.S. Funnily enough, Lee Da-in's sister, my bias Lee Yubi, is also doing a film called Twenty. Early reports on dramabeans suggested she was offered a role that initially went to Jung So-min, but now it looks like they're both in the film as separate characters and playing some kind of love interests to Kim Woobin (for anyone who cares about this information)

I thought it was a sweet little bit of wish fulfilment but also made it sadly clear why idol dating lives can be so hard...

And don't worry, your daughter's reaction appears to be pretty common among some Beast fans, though some actually like Lee Da-in after watching the series. I love her, she's so charming and natural onscreen and her chemistry with Kikwang is fantastic. I hope she'll go on to greater things in the future.

Hey, please help with some recommendations! I'm about 20 eps into Empress Ki and I really like it so far, but I'm wondering if it's going to be worth finishing all 52 episodes. The danger with a lot of long running shows is that you get so emotionally invested and then they can burn you really bad in the end. Will I want to kill myself at the end of it or does it keep pretty good story consistency as it has so far?

The second half is not as good as the first half but it was still pretty good. I watched it all the way through. It is loosely based on real history so the ending is not perfect like many romantic comedies but I still thought it was good.

Thank you beanies for the recaps
i guess most people are not watching hotel king, as crazy as the plot is, i love it
Also watching YAAS, love it also, hoping for more bromance and romance

Doctor stranger ending next week, pretty much did not understand the point of the plot or the characters. The actors and actress are just playing the roles they were given, no need to bash any of them. Not involved in the shipping wars but i'm curious to see who Hoon ends up with and how the story ends

HSKOS, I hesitated before watching but now i love all the characters and i don't find the lead lady annoying. i think soo young is a strong person just socially awkward. i love SIG and LSH in their roles.

Trot lovers, the writer could make the lead more likable so i wouldn't have to ship the second lead with chun hee ,most likely my ship will sink. i hope the lead gets better in the next episodes and becomes a character i can root for.

Triangle made me a fan of Jaejoon. he is such a great actor, six episodes to go i hope nobody dies at the end. hope the ratings increase. hwaiting.

Joseon gunman, what's with all the negativity . i love and i believe the actors and actresses are playing their roles well. LJK oppa hwaiting. Soo in has the chance to grow as a character i like already and for me their is nothing wrong with Nam sang mi acting that is the role she is supposed to play. More growth hopefully for each character. Hoping the ratings grow.

FTLY , surprisingly i like it. i like Gun's character after seeing episode 2, rooting for him already. First time seeing Jang Hyuk acting, it's good. Jang nara's character is easy to root for. Hwaiting show

Waiting for next week episodes. Everyone have a great weekend

The first episode of "Marriage Without Love" (aka Marriage without dating) is up, so far looking OK but hard to tell from just one episode.

So far it seems like it might actually be a somewhat original plot setup. The most common setup in dramas is the chaebol prince falls for the lowly chimney sweep girl, and of course his family all hate her, especially the evil MIL.

But from what I gather so far, in this case he puts forth the girl as his fake fiancé, assuming that his family will never accept her because of her chimney sweep background, and things backfire on him. Could be an interesting setup if done right.

I'm not sure if anyone will see this by now, but it's about High School King of Savvy. After already discussing it with my sister, I remembered something we hadn't brought up: Min Suk getting a nosebleed. Did I dream it up? Am I, perhaps, a bit crazy? She remembers it, too, but a friend of ours has no recollection of it. Both of us would swear up and down that it was in episode 5 or 6, but none of us can seem to find it. I swear it was kind of random and was not addressed.

AM I crazy? Thank you for any help you can provide, even if it's to tell me I'm nuts and dreamed it! :)

Hmmm, I don't remember that either.... Are you watching Trot Lovers? In the last episode the Boong-do singer guy what's-his-name got a nose bleed from working too hard at the sketchy karaoke place. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I am, but I don't think that's it. It was a leading man and it was random. I'd be more willing to think I imagined it, but my sister remembers it, too....although I shouldn't take that as gospel as we're twins and have been known to think one twins memory is the others tho ;p). Oh well, I'll treat it as a fever dream for now! Thanks for the suggestion though! :)

And why, as the show went on, did Owen get sexier and Grayson get more plain?
