Ji Sung decides not to become Iron Man

And there goes my reason for watching. I suppose the good or the bad of it depends on how much you were looking forward to Iron Man, KBS’s fall Wednesday-Thursday drama about a hero who sprouts knives from his body. Ji Sung (Secret) was being courted to headline the fantasy series as its superhero, but he ultimately turned the project down. I wonder if he considered it expecting to get a logical explanation for “He sprouts knives from his body as a manifestation of his paaaain,” and then discovered that there wasn’t one? Or that he might not want to star in a drama about Wolverine called Iron Man?

I know, the drama could actually be cool when all is said and done. It’s just that it raises another red flag when Ji Sung walks away from you. I was mostly torn about the crazy-sounding premise and Ji Sung potentially being paired with Shin Se-kyung (When a Man Loves), so I’m not all that disappointed as long as Ji Sung returns to dramaland in something else. For the show’s sake, let’s hope the reason he passed on the project was for scheduling purposes and not because of the script or issues with the production.

Shin Se-kyung is still considering the role of the meddlesome heroine who helps turn the hero into a “real person” (we’re not told if he’s a mutant, alien, cyborg, or a manboy in need of a metaphor). The drama will tell their love story as he comes to terms with his powers and his pain. Writing is Kim Gyu-wan of Cinderella’s Sister, and PD Kim Yong-soo of Sword and Flower is directing. The search is on for a new Iron Man, and quick, someone get Ji Sung a new drama to star in, stat.

Iron Man follows Joseon Gunman in September.

I can't really say I was looking forward to this, with or without him. It sounds way too far fetched.

I find the premise super interesting but the title not so much... Basically KBS is trying to pull a SBS show (fantasy! Weirdo!). The script must be good in order to get a valid actor( & the budget must be astronomical...)
Why not calling their wonder boy Joo won to the rescue?

Joo Won is already cast for Nodame Cantabile/Cantabile Romance, another drama on KBS.

But drama Hero 2012 starring by Yang Dong Geun was OK. But it's nothing about knives and more like he gains strength or something.

Let's see who will be the lead after this. At least someone that have ability to do it all alone if SSK is confirm.

I agree that someone needs to give the man another project to work on, stat, ASAP, like NOW lol

Hwang Jung Eum has already moved on from "Secret" onto "Endless Love" and is rockin' it =) So I hope and pray soooooooo badly that Ji Sung will pick his next project real soon =D

"about a hero who sprouts knives from his body"

But seriously, not that the image of it is already weird enough but aren't knives blurred on TV in South Korea ? Like, it's so awkward imagining a man with a body full of blurred knives O.O

LOL

Make them swords instead?

Maybe they can just extend JG for 20 episodes and make it Ironman vs Gunman? It'd level the playing field in the sword vs gun debate.

At first I thought that Ji Sung wanted to focus on Lee Bo-young. A proper honeymoon or baby or something else

Maybe Ji Sung saw the script and it's not really good. Or maybe he doesn't want to be paired up with SSK. LOL
I think the premise itself is already far-fetched. Adding female lead like SSK would be as bad as watching paint dry.

I didn't really care about the drama, but I would have watched for Ji Sung. At least I got to see a good picture of him, thanks!

I love Ji Sung and I think this was a good move as the premise is really not my kind of thing

Or in my opinion he heard Shin Se Kyung was up for the female lead and he said, "Hells No!"

LOL...I guess 77 of us have a pretty strong opinion.

I just hope that one day soon she can do such a smashing and expression-filled acting job that I will not be reminded that she was nicknamed fishyface all through the When a Man Loves (JoAnne) recaps.

[Side note: those squeecaps are still hilarious!]

Yep, I agree with most here. Ji Sung probably realized they were also courting SSK and backed off, because really, why would anyone want to work with her when she's such a block of wood.

I wonder who they'll court now; it feels like everyone's doing something or another. I personally think the premise is super lame, but if they're going with it, someone younger would probably be more ideal.

There is only one Iron Man in my eyes anyway, and his name is Tony Stark/Robert Downey Jr.

(speaking of Marvel, has anyone noticed the variious Marvel paraphernalia in Fated To Love You? Are we seeing actual major comic franchise PPL in a kdrama?!)

I thought Secret was all kinds of crazy and yet I've watched I'm embarrassed to say how many times because the four leads really sold it.

SECRET was batshit crazy but i pulled an all-night marathon to finish it. In the process fell in love with Ji Sung and further appreciated Bae Soo Bin as a fantastic actor.

He listened to me. I told him to run run run away from this. He's a smart guy, I think. He knew this would be a turkey.

Ji Sung walking away from this project is good news indeed.

The whole premise sounds iffy.

Let's hope we get to see him soon in dramaland, in something else instead.

By the way, everyone else's previous comments about the blurring----too funny! *still laughing*

How about this as an inspired choice: Lee Kwang Soo. We can retitle it "Iron Betrayor"

Wouldn't it be great if he and Lee Bo-young did a drama where she wasn't his crazy, desperate ex-girlfriend? I wonder if they would ever consider doing another show together.

Now I wanna go and re-watch "Save Your Last Dance for Me" (for the umpteenth time, but don't mind me ^.^) just to watch Ji Sung and Eugene be all kinds of cute and lovey dovey with each other =) Seriously... With all these K-dramaland on-screen couple reunions that have been happening left and right this year, adding a Ji Sung/ Eugene on-screen couple reunion to the list isn't so hard to do, is it?? IS IT?!??!! Pleeeeeeeeaaaaaasssssse let it happen!!!
Who agrees with me??? Kekeke
