High School King of Savvy: Episode 13

We are back in action, as Savvy returns with more of what it does best – a nice balance of comedy, zippy romance, and heart within a moving plot. Min-seok realizes that his time in the office isn’t all for naught, as he gains a zany yet valuable support team that’s willing to stay loyal by his side. It’s wonderful to see that Min-seok’s pain is a shared pain and that he’s got someone willing to lift him back up when he falls. But the reveals are coming fast, and hopefully, his team has enough steam to cover his tracks.

EPISODE 13 RECAP

Dad reads up on some rehabilitation medicine for Gramps but gets interrupted by a guest at the cleaners. It’s President Yoo, who greets him in a friendly manner and asks about his adopted sons. But Dad, repulsed by his presence, orders him to leave and not come back. Gramps imitates him and throws salt at their unwelcome guest.

Min-seok returns to the office, and the retail team gives him a warm welcome back. The mood is back to its light and cheery state, and the team is even more delighted to see that he has gifts for all of them: PPL Spam bags!

Soo-young arrives at work, also back in her chirpy mood, and the team gets to work. When Soo-young looks back at Min-seok’s office, he’s at the window sending kisses to her. She sends back a heart, signaling the return of our irresistibly cute office couple.

As Soo-young reads off his schedule, Min-seok looks at her in his smitten state and sneaks in a peck on her cheek. She’s clearly flustered but reminds him that he’s still a minor. She suggests that they keep their friendly noona-dongsaeng relationship until he graduates, which means no skinship, no kisses, nothing. Min-seok complains, but Soo-young knows it’s best to keep her secretary/noona distance.

Team Leader Kim bursts into the office calling him “Fake” and fretfully tries to cover up his slip when he notices Soo-young there. When Min-seok calms him down, telling him that Soo-young knows everything, he freezes. She knows… everything? Soo-young assures him that she’s on their side and requests that her resignation be ignored. She looks into his eyes and promises that she can be trusted.

After dealing with that sudden reveal, Team Leader Kim gets to his point. He tells Min-seok that he knows about his shoulder injury. Expressing his sympathy, he tells him not to worry about his future because Min-seok can work as an instructor at his brother-in-law’s sports club. Touched by Team Leader Kim’s loyalty and care, Min-seok gives him a hug, calling him “uncle.” Aww.

Director Han enters the office calling “Fake” and immediately freezes against the window at the sight of Soo-young. All the window blinds close for the new team’s secret meeting, where Team Leader Kim announces that they’re all on the same boat now – they’ve got to remain loyal to each other. They all gather for a silent team cheer. “On the count of three: 1, 2, 3… Loyalty!”

When Soo-young arrives home, she finds Yoo-ah asleep on the bed. She wakes her up to eat, but Yoo-ah’s not in the mood. Even though she can’t eat spicy foods, Soo-young offers to go out for Yoo-ah’s favorite spicy chicken dish, which finally gets her out of bed.

On the way back, they get some ice cream, and Soo-young does her best to keep the mood light. But Yoo-ah senses her sister’s carefulness around her. Yoo-ah assures her that she’s not doing that bad; the pain is bearable.

She also voices her realization, “Now that I think back, it was me who followed Min-seok around first. He never liked me back. I was the crazy girl. But I think I needed some sort of idol, which for others were teachers or idol stars. Unni, you don’t remember the name of the guy you liked when you were eighteen, right? It’s like that. I’m just eighteen, and there are lots of fish in the sea. There will be better guys than Min-seok.”

Soo-young looks at her younger sister apologetically and offers her face for a free punch. Yoo-ah laughs and playfully raises her hand, to which Soo-young crouches in fear. Soo-young hugs her sister, and Yoo-ah says that she’ll have to make it up to her possibly through higher allowances. Heh.

At work, Min-seok and Team Leader Kim bicker about the early morning meeting, but Soo-young interrupts them in full secretary mode to give them the run-down. The meeting is at 9:00, Min-seok’s exam is at 9:30, and there’s a way to attend both.

Soo-young packs all of Min-seok’s belongings from the apartment, and Min-seok runs out of the meeting as soon as it’s finished. They meet up, and Min-seok goes through a rapid change of identity in the elevator. He finishes up his wardrobe change in the revolving doors and runs off. Soo-young shouts reminders about meetings after his exam (a scene from the cold open in the first episode), and Min-seok rides off on a scooter.

Min-seok gets to class just in time, and afterwards, his friends tease him about dating Yoo-ah’s sister. They’re awkwardly interrupted by Yoo-ah, who asks Min-seok about his shoulder and tells him to cheer up. She turns to Tae-seok to tell him that she’s decided to date him, since he likes her so much. There’s a collective “Huh?!” look, but she skips off without any further explanation. Tae-seok trails after Yoo-ah, and Duk-hwan comments on how “Hubby Lee” is now “Hubby Oh” while Min-seok looks content and relieved.

Back on the elevator at work, Soo-young asks Min-seok about his exam. He says he did wonderfully because she told him to choose the right number to guess all the way down. He asks for a kiss, but Soo-young maintains her distance and refuses.

When Jin-woo enters the elevator, Min-seok makes their hand-holding very clear, but he ignores it completely and greets Soo-young. Min-seok tells him to pay no attention to them, but he ignores that as well and continues to address Soo-young. They’re basically back to their immature fights. Jin-woo: See you again, Soo-young! Min-seok: No, don’t see her again! But after they leave the elevator, Jin-woo looks pretty down.

Min-seok and Soo-young end up at the convenience store, and Min-seok acknowledges his petty encounter with Jin-woo. Soo-young nods in agreement and starts changing his caller ID to Foolish Lil’ High-Schooler. Min-seok takes out his phone to change her name to Popcorn Grandma. Their insult battle is interrupted by Gramps, who excitedly calls out to Pretty Unni.

The three of them end up at Min-seok’s house, where Gramps feeds Soo-young fruit and showers her with compliments. “Pretty Unni is soooooo pretty!” Min-seok shows a tinge of jealousy and tells Soo-young that Grandpa’s vision is bad. Gramps takes Soo-young’s glasses and shows her the “correct” way of wearing them by turning them upside-down. Sleep eventually overcomes Gramp’s desire to keep playing with Pretty Unni, so Min-seok takes him to his room.

In that time, Soo-young sneaks into Min-seok’s room, where she finds some *wink wink* special tapes. She nods in understanding while Min-seok tries to deny everything. But his mortification is short, as Soo-young notices her moss plant on his desk. She’s happy to see that her plant is still alive and starts to poke at it affectionately. Min-seok does the same, and things get awkward when their fingers accidentally touch. Feeling the heat, Min-seok escapes the room to grab some drinks.

When he returns, he finds Soo-young looking at a photo of young Min-seok playing hockey. He must feel regret after playing for so long, but Min-seok brushes it off, saying that many athletes have to drop their sport because of injuries. He was just unlucky.

To lighten the mood, Soo-young goes back in the album to find a naked baby picture. She asks for one – since they’re two of the same one – but Min-seok covers up the picture and tries to grab it away from her. The tug-of-war results in Soo-young lying on top of Min-seok on his bed, and after a moment, Soo-young jumps off. Min-seok plays the victim, accusing Soo-young of being an insidious grandma, starting with Namiseom, the nude baby photo, and now this. Soo-young claims that it was unintentional, but Min-seok runs out of the room, overreacting.

The two share an umbrella as Min-seok walks Soo-young home. She tries to clear up the misunderstanding again, but he gives his signature reply. “Let’s just pretend you didn’t mean it.” Soo-young asks Min-seok to be her trainer because her body’s feeling a bit uncomfortable lately. At first, Min-seok complains that he just got out of training, but Soo-young manipulates his jealousy by saying that she’ll get a fit and muscular personal trainer instead. Min-seok agrees to her requests and runs back home in the rain.

Upon returning home, Min-seok clears out all of the hockey gear, pictures, and trophies from his room. He leaves his box outside to throw away, but he immediately comes back to retrieve his precious memories.

While Yoo-ah is fast asleep, Soo-young does her research on rehabilitation methods for shoulder injuries. Aw, that’s why she wanted Min-seok to be her trainer: to sneak in some shoulder recovery.

The next morning, Min-seok meets up with an overzealous Soo-young to start their training. Min-seok begins with warm-ups, and Soo-young suggests that they do the national stretching routine. She goes full out, but Min-seok looks thoroughly embarrassed.

Min-seok notices that Soo-young’s midriff is exposed when she lifts her arms, and he quickly runs over to pull her jacket down as she stretches. Reminding him about their deal, she scolds him for attempting skinship. Frustrated, Min-seok distracts her, and while she’s looking the other way, he pretends to throw a punch at her. Haha.

Taking a break from their workout, Soo-young notices a man in the distance flipping on a pole. She shivers from a past trauma; she hit her head while turning on a pole when she was younger. She tells Min-seok that she has a bigger trauma about poles than about bugs, which he doesn’t seem to understand. Soo-young gets back up for more exercises, and when Min-seok asks why he has to join, she accidentally mentions his shoulder injury.

At the cleaners, Dad drags Grandpa out of the washing machine, though Grandpa claims that he’s just climbing into a tunnel. They’re interrupted by a man who hands over a fruit basket from his company’s president. Dad is left with the basket before he angrily realizes that President Yoo sent it to him.

President Yoo conducts a meeting, where Director Nam briefs him on a new potential project while Min-seok playfully sticks his finger in Director Han’s mouth. The new project would give Comfo the opportunity to build a shopping mall brand throughout Asia. Jin-woo advises President Yoo to delay the project, as it may be too overwhelming on funds on top of the current projects. But President Yoo disagrees and scowls at Jin-woo for giving up so easily on this chance to expand Comfo’s presence.

When President Yoo returns to his office, Dad is there to return the fruit basket. Dad admits that he does need money – he’s got an ill father and two adopted sons – but he’d never take President Yoo’s filthy money. He takes out the envelope that was attached to the basket and rips it up. Dad warns him to stay out of their lives and walks out.

Jin-woo and Director Nam witness Dad walking out of President Yoo’s office, and they’re ordered to drop by later. Director Nam recognizes Dad and tells Jin-woo about the relations. President Yoo used to be business partners with Lee Jung-soo, and “Chauffeur Choi” worked under Lee Jung-soo. Along the way, President Yoo’s actions somehow harmed Lee Jung-soo’s business, which led him to commit suicide. His wife died soon afterwards, possibly because of the shock and tragedy.

Jin-woo looks up more information on Lee Jung-soo as he thinks back to Director Nam’s explanation. He gets a text for Yoo-ah asking to meet again, same time same place.

Min-seok and Soo-young get off the bus from work, and Min-seok suggests that they get dinner. But Soo-young declines and tells him to meet her at the park to exercise. She finishes tying a band to the jungle gym just as Min-seok arrives, and they start by running laps. Soo-young clearly isn’t in shape, as she collapses every couple of steps, so Min-seok tells her that they can stop. Then she runs over to the bands and hurts herself when the bands fling her over, but she insists that Min-seok join her.

But Min-seok’s had enough. He yells at her to stop trying for something that’s impossible. Soo-young stays optimistic and says that even athletes with worse injuries have recovered, but Min-seok gives her a dose of reality. When he lost his parents and his brother left him, he realized that he was only hurting himself by having hope in things that were out of his control. “I don’t put hope in things that are impossible, so don’t try and get hurt because of something useless.” With that, he walks off.

Yoo-ah meets up with Jin-woo at the burger place to pay her debt from last time. Jin-woo tells her it’s fine, but Yoo-ah insists, saying that she is exact with her calculations. Tae-seok and Duk-hwan pass by the place, and they notice Yoo-ah exchanging money with a strange man.

Getting defensive, Tae-seok barges in and grabs Jin-woo by the collar. But he quickly drops his hands and apologizes when Yoo-ah explains that her sister works with him. Duk-hwan asks for his understanding, but Jin-woo looks mildly amused.

On his drive back, Jin-woo gets a message from Yoo-ah apologizing again and wishing him luck in the future. He then sees Dad and Min-seok walking together. Back home, he thinks about Min-seok’s insistence on not getting caught and Dad’s relationship to Lee Jung-soo. He asks a friend to look into Lee Jung-soo’s family relations, and sure enough, Min-seok and Hyung-seok are listed as family.

Min-seok decides to part ways with his hockey box and gives Soo-young a call before heading back inside. But she doesn’t pick up, leaving their argument unsettled.

The awkwardness is evident the next morning when Soo-young gives Min-seok a dull greeting. He follows her into the kitchen area and invites her to lunch, but she claims to already have plans. Her mannerisms seem uncharacteristically cold, especially with Min-seok’s attempts to appease her anger.

Jin-woo reports his findings to President Yoo, that Lee Hyung-seok is Lee Jung-soo’s son. He must have had some ulterior motives in coming to Comfo. President Yoo seems surprised but tells Jin-woo to lay off this situation. He’ll take care of it.

Min-seok spies on Soo-young from his office and tries messaging her to find why she’s mad, but she claims that she’s not. He’s interrupted by a call from President Yoo, who invites him to lunch.

President Yoo watches Min-seok scarf down his food and casually asks about his parents. Min-seok says that he and his father get along like friends, but his real parents passed away when he was younger – his father from an accident, and his mother from that shock. Min-seok says he was too young to really understand the situation, but he knows his father had some business problems before he passed. As all the facts match up, President Yoo’s face darkens.

The retail team is ready to leave for the day, but Soo-young is nowhere in sight. Min-seok looks around for her, but Assistant Manager Yoon tells him that she already left. Oh man, she’s definitely still mad.

Min-seok calls up his buddies to figure out what to do. Duk-hwan tells him that no girl is going to admit to being mad, and the only way to fix the problem is skinship. Min-seok stops him there and recalls that one time he screwed himself over by listening to Duk-hwan’s advice. Tae-seok remembers it as the Namiseom Selca Incident. They scold him for acting like a know-it-all without even having the experience and stuff dumplings in his mouth to shut him up. Ha.

Just before Min-seok heads to bed, he gets a call from Soo-young, who tells him to come to the park. He goes there right away, and she shows him something she never thought she could do: flipping on a pole. “I thought it was impossible, but I did it.”

Through a montage, we see Soo-young struggling with the pole throughout the night and the next day. This was the reason why she didn’t pick up her phone, had plans for lunch, and left early from work. Min-seok notices the bruises on her arms, but Soo-young seems enthusiastic nonetheless.

She shows him the flip again, and Min-seok walks over to kiss her while she hangs on the pole. She lifts herself up, but he pulls her down again for another one.

Having cleared up the misunderstandings, our couple runs to shelter from the rain. Min-seok praises Soo-young for her efforts and tries to sneak in another kiss, but Soo-young rejects him. Min-seok complains that she allowed the previous kiss, but Soo-young argues that there are exceptions to rules and that was one. But nuh-uh, not this time. They continue to bicker about the skinship rule, and when Min-seok returns home, he happily puts back all of his hockey stuff.

The next day, Min-seok returns to hockey training. He approaches Coach and says that he wants to play again; he’ll deal with the consequences. He’ll do his best, and if he still can’t play, then he’ll give up. After a moment of silence, Coach welcomes him back. The team erupts into cheers, and Min-seok expresses his gratitude on the brink of tears. Even the gruff sunbae comes to give his version of a welcome. “You’d better not expect any slack because you’re hurt.” Aw.

As a comeback gift, Soo-young takes Min-seok to buy a new hockey bag. At the counter, the employee comments on how nice it is of Aunt to buy her nephew a new bag. Soo-young scratches her head and says that she’s not his aunt. The employee corrects herself, calling Soo-young his noona.

Soo-young starts to walk out, and the employee whispers to Min-seok, wondering if she’s his mom. He calls out noona and aunt, but Soo-young replies with “Oppa!” He clarifies that she’s his girlfriend, and the employee gives them a thumbs up with a look of admiration.

The next day, Jin-woo has a guest, a friend’s younger brother and a high school hoobae who’s back home on a business trip. He knows that Hyung-seok also works at Comfo, and he says that he got to know him through a work project back in Germany.

They head out to meet him, but Min-seok conveniently appears. He needed to ask Jin-woo about something but says that he’ll be back later, seeing that he has a guest. Of course, Min-seok doesn’t recognize the guest, making him wonder if that really is Hyung-seok.

Min-seok changes back into his high school uniform and heads down the elevator, only to come face to face with Jin-woo. “I was wondering what you were hiding, and I guess this was it, Chief Director Lee Hyung-seok. Or is it… Lee Min-seok?”

COMMENTS

I’m happy to see the plot starting to pick up, especially after those few episodes of inevitable angst and gloom. We even got some tidbits of the overarching President Yoo-Dad story, which I almost forgot about. There was no real resolution to the age difference aspect of the romance, so I’m just glad that they figured something out to stop the excess angst that was weighing down the story.

It’s strange to admit, but I’m starting to enjoy this couple more. I expected to find it weirder that the romance would continue despite the reveal because that means they would be ignoring the legalities. To be honest, I didn’t know if the drama could resolve my uncomfortable feeling with the romance. I wasn’t sure what Soo-young was doing at the end of Episode 12. You’re an adult, he’s still a minor, and this is weird. But I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome in this episode because we see that Soo-young is taking this relationship with caution. She makes it known that she’s got boundaries, and she keeps them (though we did get one well-deserved exception).

I liked seeing that the rekindled relationship doesn’t mean that everything else in life is A-okay. Hockey is something that has a personal importance to Min-seok, and a relationship isn’t something that’s going to fix the pain of losing that special connection to a sport you love. Min-seok has a deeper reason for giving up so easily on something he holds dear, and I love that Soo-young is there to show him otherwise. Conquering her fears to show him that he can conquer his, she gives him the support and courage to do something he never would have done on his own. This is the aspect of the relationship that I appreciate the most and something I can definitely get behind. Turns out, kisses aren’t a panacea for all of life’s pains, but they sure do help.

And Min-seok returning to the hockey team has got to be one of the sweetest moments. The nerves and silence followed by an emotional welcome really stole my heart. Min-seok wouldn’t be himself without hockey, and I’m glad everyone else agreed.

Aww, Yoo-ah. For me, she’s never been a despicable character – I actually enjoy her – and this episode proved to me why I should like her more. She’s just a high-schooler, but she’s got the heart and the brains to figure out that that’s exactly it – she’s just in high school. I love her “life goes on” mentality that she adopts because not only does it make the story a whole lot smoother, it shows that she’s matured. Unlike Jin-woo’s sudden maturity and change of heart, we’ve seen hints of Yoo-ah’s maturity, almost seeming older than Soo-young at times. She acknowledges her own faults and shows that she really thought through this whole ordeal. And she’s not awkward about it either. Though he’s not Hubby Lee anymore, Min-seok is still her friend because she cares about him. How refreshing.

Now that Jin-woo knows about the big secret, I’m excited and worried to see where we’re headed. I hope Jin-woo doesn’t fall into another manipulation hole of doom because wow, that would be terrible. Let’s hope that Jin-woo deals with this mindfuck appropriately because there ain’t nothing like old bad habits to stunt your growth. If anything, cut this young lovestruck puppy some slack because the only thing better than romance is bromance, and you two have got potential.

I don't know how this will all end but I know it's gonna be a happy ending but for the couple , is it gonna be like Witch's Romance - love each other now, live for the moment and it may be them or not in the future but all that matters is now and them in the present. / more likely like that or maybe jinwoo and sooyoung can date if minsuk and sooyooung would break up in the future. just playing the guessin game. / hyung is back on and by ep 15, he will begin to unravel the whole mystery for his disappearance.\ today is only wednesday? o, shucks, 6 more days... long wait...

The best thing that ever happened this week - King of High School OST part 5 was released , like finally, after waiting and searching high n low for weeks - it is that song that played at the end of ep 7,9,11,13 and 14.

CIEL - BUTTERFLY

I’ve been looking for this song eversince it played at the end of episode 7 where Minsuk first kissed Soo Young. It was just perfect for that scene, the feels was like so euphoric to exaggerate a little bit. So for weeks, I tried searching for it , asking in comments sections on youtube or wherever blogging sites I could chance upon. But nobody knew the title or the artist not even the koreans, they have absolutely no clue, must be top secret. And now that it is finally out, there is still no information about the artist Ciel. I am so curious right now as to who is the face behind the voice of this amazing song. I would very much like to see him sing it live, too. I googled his korean name but CL of 2NE1 came up in the image search, nah, that can't be right. Then there's this thin, long haired guy wearing sunglasses in a photo, that must be Ciel, oh, well, whatever, he did a fantastic job with the song, and just to say thank you very kamsa for that amazing song!
Yes, I am crazy for it, I downloaded it immediately and it's been playing on repeat for several hours now.

Whenever I hear this song (and it's full version now) I feel like flying away, it brings me to a happy place, just crazy good like that. and if I close my eyes, I could almost feel the sweetness of that first kiss.

Butterfly is a breathtaking song. It was Psychedelic rock sang in a fantastic dreamlike atmosphere emphasized by the lyrics which is about a butterfly who should fly to the one she loves by being true to her heart. just in case anybody is interested, here's the translated version:
http://popgasa.com/2014/07/27/ciel-butterfly-high-school-king-of-savvy-ost/

This was supposed to be Part 4 of the OST but everyone was clamoring for Seo In Guk to sing something for the OST so his song got released first – Finding Myself. It was ok , something about “Finding Himself” coz well, he is kinda lost in playing dual roles, though I think it is just wardrobe change. lol. It was nice and I love Seo In Guk, the singer, too but I like him singing his hits like Calling you, Shake it up, Tease me , Love U and that collaboration with Swings - "Would you", if you haven't heard that one yet, do check it out on you tube right now. Urban Hip meets the suave Seo In Guk- so fab! and don't forget to check out @2:48 of that video, don't blink or you'll miss SIG.

I am not sure if they would add more songs to the OST but the 5 songs that are on the list is more than enough. My favorite, of course, would be Ciel’s Butterfly then followed by Honey-G's Fluttering Heart. (Honey-G is actually a trio of vocally gifted singers who were finalist in Superstar K4 , but they did not win, I truly wonder why, must be coz they are not visually...

cont'..I am not sure if they would add more songs to the OST but the 5 songs that are on the list is more than enough. My favorite, of course, would be Ciel’s Butterfly then followed by Honey’s Fluttering Heart. (Honey is actually a trio of vocally gifted singers who were finalist in Superstar K4 , but they did not win, I truly wonder why, must be coz they are not visually appealing but they are quite famous now. Anyway, they made a song for the King of High School OST for fellow alum and superstar k1 winner, their sunbaenim – Mr. Seo In GUk and that was Fluttering Heart.)

The other tracks include: One way by Trans Fixion; As Life Goes On by Jung In and Finding Myself by Seo In Guk

I'm loving this show's OST. I'm still struggling to find out what song played at the beginning of episode 11 (and others as well, but really stripped down to just piano and violin?).

I like the revolving door change. Reminds me of Superman which I think is what the director purposefully wanted to mimic since both characters lead a double life and both had to change into their uniforms.

Agreed. I didn't take it as a literal thing, considering it is impossible to change that quickly. I just saw it as a cute nod to the double-identity/superhero trope.

hi everyone..!

its my first time posting a comment here but ever since "tale of arang" i have been reading your recaps and it is so great... anyway... i live in asia and from the recap of episode 1 to 13 the main problem you guys have is the age gap.... well in our country 18 is the age for young adults (although most are not yet matured :P) so the relationship between min seok and soo young is just normal for me... and as long as both parties respect each other they can still be together...

for the recap today i am so excited for the next scene... what will min seok do now that jin woo knows his secret (the feeling please...)i am so eager to find out what happened between min seok's father and president yoo...

thank you dramabeans for the recap... :)

but how can he be sofrigginadorable?

funny twist usually it is the women who over-analyze but now Min Seok was the one

and Soo Young. you are too stupid to refuse skinship. well up to a point.

I did everything I could to go up anywhere and do those scary exercises. had enough concussions by when I was 10 (about 7 of them I think?) and falling head first to the ground from gates trees and stairs, believe me, not very motivating. when others were doing those exercises I was in hiding. well I was mostly afraid of those two parallel things where you had to STAND UP etc cmon are you crazy???not an easy thing to do, to face it

I actually did gymnastics for a very short time when I was little (probably from pre-school to about kindergarten? I don't remember the exact time frame), and I could actually do those pole flip thingamabobs. I wasn't too bad at them either. But you're right. They are not easy.

I used to be able to do cartwheels too, but now I just flop over before I even get halfway, lol.

But I have Always been terrified of the parallel bar. (I think that's it's name.) That thing is a lethal weapon.

It's weird thinking of myself doing sports related activities when I was young. I am not an athletic person by any means, lol.

So many wins in this episode! I don't know what I like more. Though that KISS omomomo, SIG is officially the best kisser out there; he is incredibly sexy and sweet, are all high schoolers like him?! ❤

I want to to give a big virtual hug to Yoo Ah!

And Jin Woo: grow up! Can't he understand that he will never get his dads approval with despicable deeds?? though I thank him for this cliffhanger, there's that...

Team Leader and Director Han are hilarious and awesome in their own way. Forming a united foursome with MS and SY was just so funny! ❤

Love love Soo Young, she is a true gem! ❤

Jin Woo really needs a brother. he needs to let go of his obsession to prove something to his dad and just find a friend and a brother who can be annoying and give some hard truths but whome he could guide and lead. cause Jin Woo is trying to be a leader. he is trying to be a person who deserves repect but he goes about it the wrong way. he should just let go of that and be a hyung to Min seok who doesnt know where his own hyung is or why he is in this mess anyway. there will be jealousy and bickering but that doesnt matter. just like with Soo Young and Yoo Ah

The BTS of the comfort room fight was really so filled with testosterone. I also notice that LSH cracks up with SIG. I love how he used that situation to express his very understandable frustration that she won't engage in any form of physical affection with him.

And honestly, I'm frustrated For him. I don't want them having sex or anything, but I want them to at least hold hands and give each other pecks on the lips and cheeks. (I'm not against the occasional hot kiss either.) Otherwise, she can't consider him her boyfriend and shouldn't expect him to consider her his girlfriend.

I genuinely understand her concern, and I think setting some boundaries would be good for the relationship. But she's basically, for all intents and purposes, turning herself into his really kind and encouraging friend as opposed to his girlfriend.

Either be in a relationship or Don't be in a relationship. Form my own personal experience, sitting around waiting in the middle is torture, not to mention unfair to both parties involved. People only end up hurt and disappointed.

Required fields are marked *

Haha, I know what you mean. I think hand-holding, hugging, pecks on the cheeks/lips are all fine. It is frustrating to not be able to do any of that with the person you love who loves you back but we know Min Suk understands where she's coming from and he accepts it since he does try to follow the boundaries she has set for them.

Even though he's not all that happy about it, he knows that she considers him her boyfriend and vice versa. That's probably enough for him right now. He isn't your typical 18 year old after all ;)

Anyway, even though she set those boundaries for Min Suk's sake, she is willing to break them when it's necessary or when they think it's necessary.

Maybe I'm just too optimistic about their relationship. I mean, they're always spending time with each other whenever they're free. Hahaha!

But don't worry, I agree with you to a certain extent. In reality, it's a lot trickier to maintain such boundaries and have an actual romantic relationship simultaneously.

Wow that was fast! Thanks for the effort! I enjoyed your recap. This episode was so funny! I laughed all the way through it, even for the elevator reveal at the end. Haha Jinwoo found out! This drama wastes no episodes, the events move right along and it never drags. Yooah is such a great character. She doesn't wallow, she doesn't hold grudges, she analyzes what happens and attacks life again. Poor Taeseok looked horror-stricken, although he has seemed to like her sometimes. Before I say anything else, let me state here and now…I will not be replying to any comments about the characters ages.

Because no.

The horse is dead. Let him rest in peace.

On to the some actual Commentary!

I think I’ve figured out Jin Woo’s game. We’ve all been tricked. He’s not genuinely interested in Soo Young (well, he might be sliiiiightly interested, BUT…) he’s mostly trying to rile Min Seok up. (That’s just what I’m going to say in order to pretend the writers didn’t do a poor job making it look believable that he had changed the last two episodes.)

Whatever Jin Woo’s game is though, it’s clearly working, cause it’s getting Min Seok pretty worked up. I really want Min Seok to see how terrible the president treats Jin Woo and sympathize with him. Jin Woo can’t fight with Min Seok if Min Seok is too busy trying to be his friend, right? (I realize that the preview for the next episode makes the potential for a friendship between these two look pretty near impossible at this point, but a girl can dream, right?)

Random Observations/Thoughts
First off, how did Min Seok change so fast in the revolving doors? Second off, they incorporated the scene from the beginning of the first ep! A drama that follows through on its promises! It’s a miracle! (Took them longer then I expected, but Hey! We got there eventually!)

Mr. Why is Life so Hard for Me was so sweet with his genuine concern over Min Seok and offering to help him get a job when he graduates! I was ahhhhing the entire scene.

And Yoo Ah was FABULOUS this episode!!! I’m so proud of her! I actually kind of…Liked her this episode. (And I LOVE how she was all ‘Guess we’re dating now’ to Tae Suk, lol. As Shirley Temple would say. Oh. My. Goodness.)

I both love and hate how everyone is constantly assuming Min Seok watches porn. I love it because it's clearly untrue, and I like that he’s not a ‘typical teen.’ (Whatever a ‘typical teen’ is, lol.) I hate it because, Dude! He said he isn’t! Just leave him alone about it! (Btw, pretty sure Min Seok was embarrassed by his dirty underwear on the floor. I didn’t get the impression that those were dirty tapes or anything. But maybe I'm wrong?)

I also love how he ran over to pull Soo Young’s sweater down in the back. It was so cute and sweet and kind and adorable of him to ‘protect her modesty,’ as someone on soompi said. (Don’t know why it was a big deal, but it was too cute for me to quibble about the reasoning behind it.)

But guys. Why would Min Seok leave the office…..IN HIS SCHOOL UNIFORM?!?!?! What kind of stupidity is that?!

Required fields are marked *

I loved Yoo Ah in this episode...great character development and believable maturity for someone of that age.

Actually I think it's a testament to the skill of these writers, but I have been anticipating this development for a while. I was really annoyed with her character the first few episodes -- really, tracking him all the way to the office? Continuing to show up and insert himself into his life when he so clearly didn't return the interest?

Once I saw her concern for Soo Young after she was fired, and after her encounter the "pervert"--I just knew they were not going to leave Yoo Ah clingy and obtuse. I even sensed it when she met with JinWoo to encourage him to pursue Soo Young -- Yoo Ah would not be relegated to standard annoying/hateful second lead territory. Thank you writers for such a non Kdrama Kdrama!

Required fields are marked *

I've never really disliked Yoo Ah. And yes! am so pleased with the writers for not going the "typical" kdrama route. IT really is as if they have taken many of the kdrama tropes and are showing us how unreal they are...in addition to truly examining a noona romance and the whole idea of sexual restraint, celibacy, societal laws versus drama trope reactions

I'm so happy she was so gracious about it this episode! I can't lie. I have consistently disliked her almost this entire drama. She was clingy in a way that infuriated me. But I never felt like her character was poorly written, so I was never able to hate her. (I came pretty close though.) But she really proved herself this episode.

Required fields are marked *

I've never really disliked Yoo Ah, actually. I've always adored her character (except when she crosses Min Suk's boundaries) and episode 13 really made her shine. She is a wonderful person at heart. Both sisters are actually just sweethearts under their rough appearances, hehe!

She's slowly but steadily growing up and understanding the differences between reality and her desires. It's not wrong to dream or to want something, but we do need to ground ourselves and be able to think realistically in situations when the moment arises.

She did that, and I'm proud of her :D
She'll find her happy ending soon enough! Definitely!

yes, yes, yes! To everything you said. And that sweater dragging-down was so adorable. HE has a prudish side. Only he will see his girlfriend's back or underwear when the time comes. He is not one to have a girlfriend who wears short outfits.

I don't think I ever hated her either. She was annoying as any annoying teenager can be and she was definitely a delusional stalker but I did admire her tenacity and for a second lead, she was never an evil schemer that we are so used to and hate. She's also very smart. Her hurt feelings could have spilled over and she could have blown the whistle on MS ans SY to Jin Woo but she never did. I just hope she finds someone who likes her as intensely as she likes Min Seok.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. Well put!

Jin Woo is definitely playing with Min Seok, and enjoying it. His smirk when he caught Min Seok in the elevator (definitely brother's apartment building - you can tell in ep 14) was full of mischief and life. Does it seem like he only really smiles and has fun when he is teasing Min Seok to any one else?

I think while he may have some interest in Soo Young it may not be her but more the type of person he has discovered she is - warmth personified. Something he didn't know existed. Also a little bit jealous rivalry. I think the two of them will melt his coldness.

As for the preview for 14 - my thought was DEAD. MAN. WALKING. - Not to be found till the world split in half!

The revolving door was for us. Thank you director!

Uncle Scaredy Pants was adorable!

Yoo Ah has become more real to me and she has grown a lot. The writing and her acting was well done. I loved Tae Suk's reaction to the 'we're dating' - going to choke his friend. Ha!

Pretty sure it was dirty underwear - soft looking.

Min Seok is definitely a gentleman.

Thanks, Dramallama, for the quick recap--thanks to all the recappers in fact.

Telzey, I agree, one of the best things about this drama is its pace. The reveals are so...efficient! Information comes to light and very quickly the secret's out. How refreshing that it. Makes me realize how much I hate that in drama scriptwriting, in fact.

Lee Hyung Seok is probably my most awaited character in a drama, ever. I'm really curious how he'll fair against Min Seok and Jin Woo. Isn't it awesome how this drama has made us anticipate a character even though he's shown much much later after the introduction of his character. It'a incredible how he remains a real character to all of us even when we haven't met him yet. They used the plot to depict him and we feel he is very real in spite of the fact that he is being played by the same actor! I'm all praises for the writers and I can't wait to praise SIG for it soon.

That could have been a good resolution to get around the age issue. But I was disappointed that they chose not to go even one episode with him respecting her boundaries; or her standing up to him when he didn't respect them. I thought that just added a new messaging problem and made the writers resolution seem duplicitous.

And let's face it, if JW lets the cat out of the bag to gain credibility with his dad, the show's world won't go easy on her. If they handled it realistically, she'd be the only one to suffer and the damage would be longterm.

No one, adults or teens, learns how to handle rules or boundaries easily. HE can't be expected to be a perfect law-abiding person. IT would ring way more false and duplicitous if he suddenly behaved properly and suddenly began respecting her boundaries. And sexual/kissing boundaries aren't the only exemplar of boundaries. There are other ways he will have to learn to accept noona's (and society's) boundaries. So I don't think the learning to respect her boundary is a plot beat that is now finished...with one episode.

Maybe Hyung Suk was totally wrong or is bitter because of what happened to his father or is just a total cold-hearted person -- who needs healing as much as Jin Woo does. But maybe his words should be heeded. I think Jin Woo will turn out to be a weird kind of ally....but who will be a betrayer.

I wonder if hyung is the one who will get betrayed. By that I mean, the 'truth' he sought out is not exactly what he thinks it is or even if it is, Min Seok and the rest will band together to stop him.

Also, Min Seok has a sense of loyaty and fellowship that I do not get from what I know of his hyung. The shopping mall deal feels like a push at the President's ego, since everyone else in the meeting looked so worried about it. It seems like he might over extend himself, and then hyung will take over and possibly dissolve the company, leaving all of Min Seok's band of brothers and sisters without a job. I don't think Min Seok will like that.

Ugh, this is going to get messy and test some loyalty.

his hyung might have been like typical avengers. He got bitter. Min Suk was too young when his mom and dad died to understand the Chairman's guilt and develop a grudge. And he vowed never to try to change the impossible. So he developed a kind simple heart.

Hyung on the other hand...was probably devastated even more than Min Suk.

I think Chairman's own guilt is punishment enough --and the consequences of his evil toward Minsuk's dad was unintentional. Should Chairman be punished even more? Who knows? Should all of Comfo go down with the Chairman? Should Jin Woo be punished because of this?

I suspect Min Suk will try to help thwart Hyung's vengeance plan if that plan means all the company will go down. If he can't thwart it, then everyone in the company will think Min Suk was a smile-in-your-face-traitor. But if hyung only wants to take over the company or only wishes to destroy the Chairman, then hyung might succeed. I don't think Dad will like what hyung is doing though. Dad doesn't respect dirty guilt money.

Does this mean we'll be expecting some real melodrama acting from SIG as Lee Hyung Suk? How will they do that? I haven't seen SIG in a real melo acting spot aside from Reply 1997. And Reply 1997 was well-directed. I'm curious how that will work out in HSKoS.

I do so want Jin Woo to be an ally! The chemistry between the guys is so awesome. Min Suk's hot head and Jin Woo's cool head! Ha! What a pair they'd make together!

I'm glad that Min-seok now has both bases covered - 'cos I think he's gonna have a showdown when Hyung returns and presents his plan to destroy the President. Min-seok's not that kind of guy, and he'll disagree with taking the revenge route.

Imagine how his office co-workers are going to face the switch-back - one dude's so buoyant and charming, and the other's such a cold fish. Or maybe Hyung can go be a high schooler for a few weeks?

But, watching that group huddle - am I the only one thinking that the group of adults is more worrisome than the bunch of high school mates? I can't stop thinking about that saying: "Who needs enemies when you've got friends like this?"!

I almost died of the cuteness. Soo Young was awesome. The way she helps Min Suk to get back the thing he wants the most....awwww!!! I want a love like this *-*

Yoo Ah and Team leader Kim were utterly adorable in this episode too and I just want to give them a bear hug :D

And the cliffhanger, OMG!!! I am scared :'(
We have been given the opportunity to know Jin Woo and sympathize with him...but he is still dangerous and can hurt our adorable couple. I have doubts about his feelings for Soo Young: does he realize he screwed up with a great girl, or he just wants to piss off Min Suk?...or the two of them?
I cannot wait for next episode and see what happens!

While it had some great moments, I was a bit underwhelmed with this episode to the point where it sort of felt like filler...but it's a testament to the quality of this show that a "filler" episode (only my opinion that it felt like filler) is way better than an episode in another show that had plot movement (*cough* Trot Lovers *cough*).

It's about time that Jin Woo found out what's going on. You can tell that Min Seok has "settled," in a sense, into the workplace to the point that he's no longer trying to look like a director (for example, by actually styling his hair so that it's off his forehead *cue Regina George's "his hair looks sexy pushed back" remark*); rather, he's now simply a high school kid wearing suits (his hairstyle is always the same now) and showing up because he gave his word. There's no longer a sense of urgency in his pretend role, so I'm glad Jin Woo's discovery is now going to light a fire under some asses.

Can't wait to see the next episode! I keep refreshing Dramacool and KDrama in the hopes that it's subbed quickly (like last night's episode was).

I wonder if the hair style change is a conscious decision by the production because that slicked back hairstyle is what they will use for when his Hyung comes back. It would get pretty confusing if they both sported the same style.

Yep. I'm pretty sure that one of the reasons they stopped styling his hair is because his Hyung will (does actually, heh) have that hairstyle when he's back.

This drama is indeed zippy and fast paced. They don't waste any time, as soon as we have the episode where Min suk and Soo Young get together again, then Jin woo finds out. He probably won't do anything we expect either, because the show is so unpredictable.

thanks for the recap.

I was wonderng how to descrbe this drama and the best way can descrbe it is that it's a slice of life story wth a comng of age vibe.

The Japanese do slice of life dramas really well, but there is often a feelng of preachness and rigdity...and way too much of an overdose of teachng the vewer about life, sufferng, or even nobliity. Korean dramas sometmes do the slice of life thing ...for instance Secret Love Affair had that slow slce of life vibe. But often when Kdramas do slice of life the emotions are so large, the passions are almost like a novel.... What i like about HSKOS and even Yoona's Street is that they go even one better when they play with kdrama tropes. The pacing is more organic and the story feels normal, and so even the angst felt normal and not paint by numbers. Yes, HSKOS is silly and quirky but the heart of it is a story about a first love and there are so many quiet lived-in moments. Not sure i'm explaining it right but....

Anyway..this episode: YES!!!!! I trusted the writers not to do angst for angst sake. Which meant they did the angst because it was necessary; the plot required a reveal...and reveals require heartbreak. Then the writers repaired that in a suitable way and went back into the business lives of the characters.

I really like Jin Woo. I think he really does love Soo Young. She represents someone who could love him and understand him. She represents something/someone his rival has. She also is a symbol of all his stupid choices. I just don't know how healed he is....and if his true/actual/real need for Soo Young will make him do something wrong.

He'll probably take his time outing Min Suk because he understands the effect of having a suicidal parent. Plus, in business..he stil remembers the problem with Mr Older and Wiser and he wants to show his dad that he isn't gonna jump to conclusions anymore. I think he is growing toward goodness though. (Or am I deluding myself because of my crush on him?)

I don't know if he actually likes Min Suk...but am hoping he will. HE sees how loved Min Suk is by other Comfo workers and is irked by that.

Right now, I feel the OTP is Min Suk and Soo Young. But weirdly, I wouldn't be surprised if they broke up for a while and came back together (via the time jump) or if they broke up forever. I just feel the writers will be honest with their story. Which means that they might feel they have to take it in a particular direction (OTP romance turned to friendship.) I wouldn't like that kind of ending, but if it felt true I would deal with it. All I want right now is for the writers to commit to continuing their honesty.

Not sure what the extension will do. Or what Lee Hyung Suk will do when he returns to complicate matters.

I'm a Jin Woo fan too. I think the actor plays him with such sensitivity that I overlook his jerky-ness (is that even a word?)

I do think he cares for Soo Young, but not sure if its love or just the need for a friend. I don't see any attraction from his side. Its more an emotional need for her. I have a secret hope that Soo Young may once again fall for him, but seeing how compatible the OTP is, i think I'm going to be disappointed.

I loved how he doesnt show any emotion at Yoo Ah's first text. I was worried that they'd pair him up with her and just didn't want that. But its obvious that he sees her just an amusing high schooler who happens to be SY's sister.

I want a love interest for him pronto - just so i can see him kiss someone.

Aoiaheen, I'm on the same page as you. I think Lee Soo Hyuk portrayed him really well. You know he can be such a jerk but you don't hate him.

Anyway, Bad Ass Jin Woo is back. And I know I shouldn't like it too much but I do. Maybe because we all know that he always get thwarted fairly quickly. His character is always keeping me on my toes. I'm always wondering is he going to fall of the wagon again or has he wised up somewhat?

As for his feelings for Soo Young, it's combination of both I believe. He realizes now that she is everything good that he never thought existed...well, not in his immediate environment. Poor thing. A little too late in the game to change the course.

Any episode that has MS kissing SY (or the window even) sure is good!

So many scenes here are worth replaying over and over again. One of them is during the meeting where MS sticks his finger in MD Han's open mouth. That's just so random.

I kinda miss MS's office hairstyle from the earlier episodes. Maybe he runs out of hair spray, haha!

"It’s strange to admit, but I’m starting to enjoy this couple more. She makes it known that she’s got boundaries, and she keeps them (though we did get one well-deserved exception)."

I sooooo agree with this. The fact that she respects his age and is firm about the boundaries is something that really made me love her more. I really love her character because as goofy as she can be, she has a lot more strength and self-respect than a lot of other heroines. Her enforcing the rules (and allowing a reasonable exception ;) went a long way to making me feel more comfortable with the situation. And it was adorable in the store when he ran through aunt, noona, girlfriend.

This episode is just chock full of setups for the next conflict. It does feel like a filler episode but done so well and I was really expecting it since all dramas have them at some point. I was snickering at the whole secret meeting at the office. For a second there, I thought they were gonna call themselves the Fantastic Four or something. lol

How awesome is Soo Young! I mean she's always been awesome in my eyes but she's even gone beyond my expectations. Min Seok has hit the jackpot and he knows it. hehe She's so supportive and understanding that it's scary. I am glad that Min Seok fell for her from the inside out so that a makeover is not really necessary. Speaking from experience, when you fall for someone's personality instead of being attracted to them physically first, they become more and more beautiful the longer you spend time with them and next thing you know, you can't keep your eyes off em.

I like how they are dealing with the relationship. They both know (well more Soo Young really) that it's no fairy tale and that even though they can't dismiss how they feel for each other, they can't disregard society either. It's a good compromise to a very sticky (and for some icky) issue. In real life, breaking up and waiting would have been the norm but this is not real life and this would turn into a boring show if they did that. Good job writer for addressing it.

Yoo Ah is one tough cookie. I pity her next boyfriend because we all know who will be wearing the pants in that relationship. hehe I am almost glad that Jin Woo is back to his asshole self. You can't change a person's personality overnight. A few episodes of sweetness and regret does not cover up his corporate shark nature.

I just hope the new conflict does not impinge on the cuteness too much.

I think this episodes situation is only the same as the latter part of what was shown in Episode 1 which I think was 2 situations spliced together making it look like just 1 incident. What I find a little confusing is whether he is doing stuff at his hyung's apartment building or the comfo building because some of the scene go by so quick.

I don't think it was the same scene either. It looked like a parallelism of the Episode 1 prologue scene but it wasn't exactly the same scene. I still hope that somewhere in Episodes 15, 16, and 17, we'll see how that prologue fits (I have hope because contracts from Singapore is always mentioned casually in most previous episodes). But people say KDramas tend to forget their prologues and never resolve them so I wouldn't know the real score on that one.

I love that this episode showed Min-seok with some hilarious snarky, sarcastic comebacks to Soo-young. If you listen to GF and JB's latest podcast they talk about how the name "King of High School Savvy" is close, but doesn't really come across with the whole meaning of the original title in Korean. I think it was GF who said that it was really more like "King of High School Smart-asses". And here he is in all his snarky glory!

Oh, and can I just say I loved the thumbs up the older lady shopkeeper gave to them when she was told that they were boyfriend-girlfriend. No squicky feelings there!

I can't say any more, because I watched the next episode and it is fantastic! Love, love, love this show!

Loved that moment when Soo Young conquers a fear to inspire MinSeok to do the same...there's nothing better than a relationship where the two are actually growing from one another.

At the start I was afraid that it'd be another drama where the guy is teaching the "incapable" woman how to live but it's nice to see that Soo Young gives just as much as she gets. In the beginning Min Seok was the one looking out for Soo Young by being a shoulder to lean on and trying to teach her not to give her heart so freely to ppl who didn't deserve it, and now Soo Young is the one being a pillar of support and showing Min Seok how to believe in life's possibilities. It's very refreshing... Soo young is quickly turning into one of my favorite heroines.

I admire how honest the writing of this show is...it really is hard to tell at times what the future may hold for SY and MS or how this plot will play out and I think that's wonderful. I'll be sad when it ends :(
Great recap btw!

To be honest, there were moments when the plot becomes predictable. BUT I'm in love with the way it's presented. There is depth to the series; subtle cues are there when you peel the layers. It's humanistic in such a way that the characters seem real and relatable. Everyone has their own story and have multiple faceted characters.

0

Required fields are marked *

All stories have moments of predictability, though. Or else the viewer/reader would be entirely lost. Stories have cause and effect and exist in a rational world so some stuff has to be predictable. Or how could humans figure their world out? The thing i fear is when the predictable is just "the lazy." When this drama uses typical drama tropes, the writers make the writing so honest and so fun and loving that it revitalies the trope and makes us see why the tropes came to be so important. They are honest use of tropes that are the exceptions that prove the worthiness of the trope.

I'm so glad that Soo Young managed to convince Min Suk to not give up on his future as a professional ice-hockey player. The scenes in relation to his dilemma were some of my favourites in this episode (and not because of the kisses, but that was a bonus!)

And I really love Min Suk & Soo Young's relationship so much. They are just like besties and lovers in one package. Their snark, banter and cuteness with each other is one of the things I love most about this drama. Can't get enough of it! I want a relationship like theirs!

In all, I'm loving every single character in this drama more and more as every episode goes on. I can't wait to watch things unfold over the next two weeks!

Aish it's so difficult to comment on an episode 13 recap when I've just seen episode 14. T

It's great to see that the strengths of the drama remain in tact even when it's nearing its final episodes *sniff :'(

It's funny and delightful as usual and the angst is poignant as usual. Yoo ah broke my heart here. We've all been heartbroken before but she sure is handling this so gracefully. I'm really so sad for her.

Jin Woo seems to be silently dealing with the anguish of losing Soo Young. Although I still can't believe he loves her, I appreciate that Jin Woo now sees how he badly needs someone like Soo Young in his lifetime. The boy needs some lovin.

Interestingly, I've developed compassion for President Yoo over these past episodes.

Min Suk still remains my favorite character together with Soo Young and Gramps.

I loved the episode as usual and I'm so eager to run a marathon of it now... simultaneously feeling sad that we now only have two weeks left :'((

I think now I'm the one having real angst at the thought of that :(

Yes, isn't that interesting? I too felt a bit for President Yoo. Hats off to the writers who are starting to work with that scarecrow. And to this actor, who can play the most hateful roles so convincingly...I Miss You is a great example.

President Yoo's expressions during the lunch scene with Min-Suk were wonderful...bemusement at his eating and jabbering, then a clear look of tenderness mixed with regret as he explains about his parents' death and his current dad. How he repeats the words, "a son who's like a friend to his parents" was so poignant as he clearly thinks of Jin-Woo.

Yes! That scene was very impressive. It's his acting that's allowing me to consider more compassion for his character. I get that he may have been a douche and a monster and I didn't feel much for the fruit basket but when he looked down when Jin Woo mentioned that Lee Hyung Seok is the son of Lee Jung Soo, I got a sense of surrender in his posture. There's even a part of me that wonders if he's purposely letting himself be scammed into the Pavo-Comfo merger. It's really hard to veer away from Episode 14 in the comments, but the president actor has taken it up a notch in the latter episode. These veterans fall alongside chauffer choi and gramps in the impressive acting department.

I love this show so much!
I love that Soo-young has taken charge and laid the ground rules for their relationship - no skinship until he graduates - even if she is unable to fully follow through with her own rules.

Every time Min-suk does the Noona whine & squirm my heart goes pitter-patter.

I also the little details of the show. Ever since Soo-young found out his identity, Min-suk stopped gelling his hair for work. His dress has also gotten more casual and hip. Without saying, this is a constant reminder to the audience of young Min-suk's age - a fact Soo-young keeps having to remind herself of.

At the same time, Soo-young has started dressing more mature and put together. The hair is still a disaster and the glasses hide most of her face but the granny skirts and ill-fitting clothes are beginning to disappear.

I'm feeling more and more sorry for Jin-woo. Everyone seems to be out to get him and no one is on his side. Somebody come give that man a hug.
Or better yet, if there were a way he and Min-suk could become friends, I think it would do both of them a world of good. Bring on the Bromance!!!

If I can trust the subs in the episode when MS was hurt, he was told not to play again, else he may lose his arm. So why push him back playing instead of opening new horizons for him? I agree that smooching isnt enough to replace hockey, but WTF?

0
8
reply

Required fields are marked *

Hmmm.

I wouldn't say that he can't play anymore but since ice-hockey is a very rough and demanding sport, he was advised not to continue because if he pushes himself too much, he may lose the use of his arm especially without undergoing any form of rehabilitation for his shoulder.

It's not 100% certain that he can't ever recover and play hockey again though. There is a chance of recovery(albeit small) if he takes things slow and steady. That's why Soo Young pushed him back into it since he didn't dare to hope for such a miracle. She knows that it's the future he's been striving for since he was a child, after all.

If it doesn't get better with time, he'd have to stop but if there's a chance, why not be a little bit more positive and take it right? There's a risk but there's also hope for a second chance. Haha!

Hmmm.. not sure, but in real life, if some doctor gave me that bad news, the first thing I would do is get a second opinion from a better doctor. Pfft.. Never trust a single doctor in any life altering situation coz most of the time they are just making an educated guess.

0

Required fields are marked *

I don't really agree with Soo Young encouraging him to play hockey again either, considering the diagnosis his doctor gave him. The drama writers have clearly decided it's okay though, and we can't stop them from writing the drama the way they want, so I'll just have to be okay with it, lol.

Kdrama's subs don't say that he will lose his arm though. They do say he could end up damaging it permanently though.

I'm with you on this one. I am so worried for Min Suk. However Soo Young did not hear the doctor's advise. The coach however should have stood up a bit more for Min Suk's safety. Awww, you guys are so worried about that! Hmm, I don't think Min Suk is playing on the actual field again though. The coach won't allow that until he's well enough and we know that isn't the case yet.

I'm pretty sure that his father already knows too and wants him to be able to play again since hockey is practically Min Suk's life. That's why he has to do rehabilitation for his arm whenever possible as It increases the chances of recovery, I believe.

And I'm sure his dad will make him pay visits to a doctor regularly to check on the progress of his shoulder. Like Min Suk said, if he can't get better, he will stop so don't worry too much (:

Our boy knows how to take care of himself, right? Haha. Anyway, there are bigger problems to deal with now so the focus is going to be on that I guess.

Another one of my fav scenes - when Min Suk is all embarrassed doing the national exercise, Soo Young imitates him from the rooftop exercise scene & goes "what? Don't remember this?" XD!!!!!! LMAO XD!

Hahahahaha! He most definitely got a taste of his own medicine in that one. His prank at the rooftop totally backfired on him :)) Way to go for leveling the relationship. I really love that Soo Young is getting back at him now for all the teasing :D This couple is such a cutie!

I am not gonna comment on this drama anymore cause I have run out of words to describe how much I love this drama. So I will talk about some comments.

I see that many of you are assuming that the show will show us Lee Hyung Suk. What makes you so sure though? The way the show has skillfully avoided showing his face all these episodes makes me think that we won't be seeing Lee Hyung Suk. Besides, I think that if they had wanted to bring him in, they would have done it earlier. Not now with only 3 eps to go. That would feel rushed. I THINK. This drama is so awesome, they might just manage to pull it off.

PS: I would love it if they bring in Lee Hyung Suk. I really want to see how SIG will play & ahem, a cold hearted SIG? Fuck he's gonna wreak havoc on my vagina. But only because he is a minor character. I don't like the bad boy kinds XD if he had been the main character then I would have abandoned this show XD but as a minor character played by SIG? Hell yeah baby.

Check out epi 14. Remember the whole team/ally/enemy theme. And remember the return of avengers as well. Poor Minsuk will be caught in the middle. Won't comment. Just keep your eyes on that contract.

And yes... the vagina-havoc. Jin Woo's been keeping me up nights with his angsty fragile beauty. Min Suk's been keeping me up with his joyfulness and his open-heartedness. And now... oh my lands! There is just so much passion an old woman's heart and vagina can take.

Just watched ep 14 & omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo omo. By the way that's both: the sound of my mouth talking as well as my vagina. Yes my vagina can talk surprisingly well when it comes to SIG.

The end: I will say this again, I have never cared for characters in a drama as if they were real people. Here, I know the ending is going to be happy yet I still don't wanna see them hurt :( Proof - at the end I wanted to punch him in the face as well as hug him & cry with relief (even when I know what's gonna happen)

Also, I agree with "Aigoooo". Jin Woo has always been just a sad char for me. The character aside, I haven't ever thought of even Lee Soo Hyuk attractive. I don't know why. Models in general somehow give me an...."off" feeling. It feels like they are the craziest of the glamour industry bunch. Like should-be-kept-in-cages kinda crazy. It's not a view but an actual feeling. I don't hate models of course. I am just...ranting XD.

But.....Aigoooo.......you can feel it with your p.e.n.i.s *sends conspiratorial wink*

If I played for your team then perhaps I'd be right there with you on the "feels" for SIG and LSH BUT my preference is towards Yoon Eun Hye, Ha Ji Won and Lee Ha Na. hehe

There are certain moments when Lee Soo-Hyuk is in profile ..which are just dazzling. Extreme beauty is often linked to something that is also a little physically off or mentally off. I guess because in this world there are so many beautiful people that it's really the oddness that makes people beautiful or strange wonderful imperfections. Soo-hyuk's nose is too large but it is regally large. Which makes it beautiful. Plus his personality... yes, he's a sad sack. That alone would've made him a boyfriend for me back in the day. The exiled prince motif/the poor little rich boy/the fallen angel.

I' ve never met any models but yeah, they do seem off sometimes, don't they? Constantly aware of being observed. Omo, i just remembered a really gorgeous guy i knew in college. A sweetie. Didn't know how gorgeous he was...which left a permanent mark on my memory. Beautiful guys who are regular guys are so attrative and this is what Jin Woo has underneath all that angst. (Not sure about Soo-Hyuk, the model of course.) When we see Jin Woo, there is such an easygoing style about him. He's classy but he's also approachable. It might just be the noblesse oblige thing the rich have toward the poor. But even in his shyness and priggishness he has humor and he takes people as they come. That quality shows up a lot ...especially in epi 14.

Ah! No no! I didn't mean Lee Soo Hyuk isn't good looking! He IS good-looking. Just that he doesn't attract me XD & yes Jin Woo gained major points from me when he covered for Min Suk during the meeting when Min Suk was asked a question.

0

Hahaha, you're not alone Christina.

I think LSH is good-looking in a way but I'm not attracted to him at all. It's weird, isn't it? Unlike SIG who melts my heart just by doing anything and everything, haha!

0

Yeah me neither. I acknowledge the whole suave and model aspect of Lee Soo Hyuk but I'm not attracted to him. To me he feels like those men from magazine spreads---pretty, but not for emotional attraction and for a meaningful ever. I've always had this thing of being attracted to character more than physique. Not saying that Lee Soo Hyuk has no character, just that his character is not my type.

0

I don't know how to feel about Jin Woo. He is just such a sad sack now. Hmmm.. about the vagina thing.. I would not know anything about that since I don't have one. You ladies crack me up! lol

Please please keep the remarks on this forum wholesome. There are young teens who read this, and the rest of us don't all like to see vulgar language either. The show itself is charming and clean, and we have a right to not be shocked by what we read here.

Risque comments show up regularly on dramabeans posts and in comments. In fact, in this very post the word "f*ck" was used twice. And that word is a little worse than "penis" and "vagina." And as Min Suk says, "Kids nowadays are doing all kinds of things." Perhaps you challenge some words only when non-site commentators state them...which seems very selective to me. But...point taken.

Funny thing is I'm generally a very non-argumentative person. But -- being raised by a minister and an ex-nun-- I tend to have no patience with anything that reeks of moral policing. Judgmentalism alas is my pet peeve. And that is often the reason I get into battles with folks on the internet.

But as I said, point taken. I personally will be more careful in the future. I do hope you don't start correcting the site-owners though. There is a point below which one should not allow one's self to go.

1) If you don't like it, don't read it. Simple. The world isn't going to mould itself around your likes or dislikes. That's the truth & there's the bridge. Now get over it.

2) So it's ok for people to say things like "I want to strangle him/rip his eyes out/die you bastard" but not ok to say vagina or penis which are by the way equally important parts of our anatomy. Why are you so ashamed of it?

3) You need to give young teens more credit. Gone are the days when they needed to be coddled. Also, have you forgotten that kids receive sex education at the ages of 10-13?

Thank you dramallama for you wonderful recap.

The kiss on the chin up bars was touching and beautiful. His facial expressions said it all.

I must say the bed scene was hilarious and might I say very realistic from my own personal history. *blush*

I do have a question - what did he call her at the end of that scene? My subs said 'lustful monster', but I thought monster was something else.

What I love are all the little things that this show puts in that are so much fun; tie pulling when hot and bothered; thumbs up clerk lady; remembering that the love guru's advice should be stuffed back in his mouth with dumplings, etc..

More of my thoughts are scattered here and there but I have enjoyed this show and everyone's comments that make it so much more enjoyable. Now, back to waiting for Monday.

Btw, off topic but has anyone else had problems with KDrama? I started off loving it for limited ads and pretty good playback, but in last couple of weeks the video is off--pressing full screen sometime ends the episode, showing the "Replay" screen. Also trying go back or go forward to a scene has done that.

Yes, I've reported it to KDrama, but it keeps happening. On Google Chrome and Firefox.

I get that too and I have to delete my cache/cookies on Goggle Chrome to fix the whole "going on replay" thing. They need to upgrade the player they are using or switch to a better one I think.

I've had the same issue with kdrama. But I've surprisingly not seen a single commercial. I'm not sure why. I just press replay then QUICKLY click on an earlier section of the video once it comes back up, and then I'm usually able to get it to work correctly.

Aw Jin Woo. What an interesting drama. I cant remember the last time I sympathised with kdrama Bad Guys. I feel as though I am watching a really good novel being played out on screen. It reminds me again how everyone has a story to tell and that snap judgement is damaging.

Agree with your comment above on the attractiveness and beauty of Jin woo. Sigh. Suits make it better. I love too how the show subtly changes the Bad Guys to people we can really sympathise with and hope they turn out ok.

i also feel so sorry for him. I'm not sure if Jin Woo's mom was a mistress while Chairman was married or a cast-off first lover. Whatever the case, it's a shame his father can't just own up to having created an "illegitimate" (I always hated that word) child.

Of course there are priggish morality-police types everywhere in (and outside) dramaland, but I think it's waaaaaaaaay rude to go reminding folks of morality etc. And poor Jin Woo always has to prove his life is valid.

0

I've been under the impression that she's his actual wife, not a mistress or cast off lover. She ended up with an addiction to alcohol, and the president simply put her in an institution and left her there instead of trying to help her.

Which would explain a lot about Jin Woo's issues with connecting with people.

0

Wow!!! Really? His actual wife? But then, why would he pretend that Jin Woo doesn't exist?

0

Because he's a jerk? I'm sure in his head it makes sense.

0

Hats off to the PD. Impressive attention to detail and the use of both setting and plot to establish characterization. Nice.

I just gotta put these two things out there:

One: JinWoo was COLD rocking the model walk when SooYoung came to visit him. "I was like daaaaaaaang , boo!"

Two: Let's all have a moment of silence as we ponder the thing that is SIG's booty.................... He could serve tea on that thing. Actually, make that Kool-Aid (PPL included). I'd drink THAT kool-aid.

Pitit, you and me both, you and me both!!!

LSH struts everywhere, he kills me! I love his nose, lips*, voice and shoulders. I hope he keeps eating and exercising because his body is so much better now than in White Christmas, for example. Despite how tall and lanky he is. I even love his little Shrek ears, so cute!

And I now wonder HOW I could have not noticed SIG's...charms (yeah, the wholesomeness comment above made me change the word I was going to use, LOL! Mustn't scar the children). Clearly, the director of photography has been choosing the wrong angles *eyebrow twitches* Loved his hands, esp in the parallel bar kiss scene and that mole is just teasing me!

Ok, I'll stop there. Was that PG enough, do you think?

I commented on SIG's booty a previous recap. It's completely adorable. It's also really interesting to see a Korean celeb with such a...normal looking body. Along with that booty, he's got these, I don't want to say chubby because they aren't, but....average arms and legs. Yet you KNOW there's all kinds of muscle all up in those arms and legs.

Funny that you mention the body normalcy. I kept looking at Min Suk's pants during the date scene and thinking, "Those pants fit like a normal person's pants would fit. There's something off, or too something....like a normal guy's jeans that aren't custom-fitted or tailor-made." Unlike say Jin Woo who is the figure of fashion. And that's what was so great in the scene: the normal-looking clothing.

I am totally re-watching right now. :))

The foursome is really really adorable! Min Suk getting all worried about Team leader getting hit by the managing director is too cute. Hahaha it's so funny that in the foursome, Min Suk seems more embarassed to do the loyalty chants than the rest of them even though he's the younges. And he had the calmest reaction in the elevator scene with the Yoo men. It's amusing that he's supposed to be the eighteen year old one. :))

One thing i really love about this drama is that a story that began with a pretty forbidden risque relationship has flipped the trope and become among other things a study in the mechanics of celibacy and sexual restraint. Can't stop smiling at that.

EP 14 SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT

As you all know, I haven't experienced the "second lead syndrome" on this show (or ever but that's another story).

But guys........I think Lee Hyung Suk will be giving me a second lead syndrome. Lord help me. Not second lead syndrome as in shipping him wi Soo Young but in the god-just-3-eps-aren't-enough-need-more-of-him way. I need a sequel with him as the main char. It will be a slow death. I will be left as a mindless lust driven creature by the end but I don't care. Not at all. Seo In Guk the things you do to me.

On another note, lol what if Yoo Ah falls for Hyung Suk? XD I doubt the writers will go there but lol it will be funny XD

Sadly, I am rewatching episodes until Monday--this drama has me hooked I tell ya!
Did anyone notice the running gag of managing director getting Soo-Young's name wrong at the beginning of Episode 13? She pledges her loyalty to Min-Suk and says, "...Managing Director, my name is not Jung Joo Young, but Jung Soo Young."
"Really? Wasn't it Jung Joo Young" (because, you know, she COULD have mistaken her name). "I thought that was it all along."
"Yes, it is. I know you thought that all along."
"Oh...Jung So Hyung"

LOL The dialog in this series is SO GREAT!
