Fated To Love You: Episode 10

Our newlywed hero spends a good chunk of time this hour wrestling with desire, which is hilarious and heartwarming and all kinds of fun. But even though we know the good times can’t last, Fated To Love You still proves to be the kind of show that’s sweet enough to give you diabetes and touching enough to get you right where it hurts when it needs to. I won’t deny that this episode makes for one hell of a ride, but at least it doesn’t forget to pave the way with a little (or a lot of) humor—and most of all, heart.

As far as ratings go, Fated dropped to third place at 9.7. It’s Okay rose to second with 10.1%, while Joseon Gunman maintained the slim lead at 11.7%.

EPISODE 10 RECAP

After Gun swoops in to kiss her, a long moment passes before he opens his eyes. A tear falls down his cheek before he slowly, ever-so-slowly, pulls away.

But he doesn’t go far, and keeps his arms tightly wound around her as he looks into her eyes. “What can’t you do in this world?” He asks, in response to her concern that they can’t be. Then he gently holds her chin as he leans in for a true kiss.

Mi-young reciprocates this time, letting herself fall deeper into his embrace as he envelops her even closer. The emotions flowing into that kiss are beyond palpable, so much so that I’m getting misty-eyed—and this isn’t even a sad moment! But on the bright side, that’s how you kiss. Learn from this, dramaland. Learn from this.

After that heated exchange, Gun cutely fishes for a compliment for getting her Keddongie mug back, and Mi-young laughs shyly as she gives him two thumbs up.

He smiles as he notes that the snail has finally returned to her old self, otherwise known as his wife, Kim Mi-young. Then he takes her and Keddongie out for something to eat. Can they be any cuter?

Mi-young is already asleep by the time Gun crawls into bed with a predatory smirk. He looks ecstatic when she unknowingly nestles into him, and gives the camera a rakish wink as if to say that he’s totally got this one in the bag.

He’s only momentarily dismayed when she murmurs Keddongie’s name in her sleep, but the mood is truly broken when she says it again. Gun looks like he’s in physical pain as he has to pry himself away from her. Actually, he probably is in pain.

Cut to: Gun taking a cold shower while complaining that the water just isn’t cold enough. Hahahaha.

Cut to: Gun at the doctor’s the next morning with dark circles under his eyes and a haunted expression as he tells the doctor that there’s another him inside, a wild him, that’s been threatening to come out more and more lately. Okay, I know Gun is a hypochondriac, but this? This is amazing.

Much like his last insomnia-induced rant, Gun gets very animated as he screams about having kissed the sexy snail, how he burns up whenever he sees the snail, and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! That’s not my reaction, he literally just devolves into making incoherent noises.

I love how the doctor calmly responds that while it is hard for a normal man to love a snail, desiring someone you like is totally natural and healthy. When Gun goes further into how he can’t control himself when it comes to Mi-young, the doctor’s only advice is for him to find a way to cope—and above all, stay calm.

Gun turns to religion and hymns, but soon realizes that doesn’t work when he turns to look at his shoulder…

…And finds a bespectacled snail crawling there as the creepy tune from Queen Seon-deok plays. HAH. By the time he pries the imaginary thing off, Manager Tak and Yong come running in with all the national newspapers—and Gun and Mi-young’s love story is on everyone’s front page.

Gun seems upset as he calls Yong closer and asks if leaking the information to the press was his doing, and when Yong meekly replies yes, Gun smacks him on the bottom as he declares, “Good job!” Yong is on cloud nine, leaving Manager Tak feeling unloved.

In her attempt to find a way to drive a rift between Mi-young and Gun, Mama Young accidentally happens upon Gun’s man cave… and the divorce agreement. Jackpot.

Mi-young and Gun go for an ultrasound, and adorably wave hello to the sonogram of Keddongie. Even though their baby is still just a speck with a strong heartbeat, Gun happily claims that Keddongie already has his good looks.

It’s hilarious when Doctor Moon notes that Keddongie’s head is just a little big, which has both Gun and Mi-young fervently denying that such a trait comes from their side of the family (it’s only because small heads/faces are considered more beautiful, not because anything is abnormal with the baby).

But when Gun tries his best to get the doctor to spill the baby’s gender, he soon finds himself outnumbered, since Doctor Moon takes Mi-young’s side in arguing that gender isn’t important. When Gun tries again by asking whether they should buy blue or pink clothes, Mi-young says that they can just buy both.

At the baby store, Gun is quick to point out one of the employees as being their prenatal class teacher. And while it’s true that she looks just like Teacher Park, the employee claims she’s her twin. I hope this becomes a recurring joke.

After Gun goes on a buying spree when it comes to all the baby things, Mi-young stops at a display of a mother, father, and child all in matching outfits. It’s childish but cute, and since Gun can’t say no to her, he buys the set so that the three of them can wear it in the future, along with two teddy bears Mi-young thinks Keddongie will like—because just having one of something is never enough for him.

At home, our happy couple wears their couple PJs while arranging their bedroom into a nursery. They couldn’t be happier, even as Gun asks when the baby is due (Valentine’s Day), and when Mi-young’s birthday is (the day after tomorrow, which means the baby’s eight months out).

But Gun is shocked when she says her birthdate is July 23rd, because that’s his birthday too. Awwwwwwww. They continue the fated birthday synchronization conversation in bed, where Gun makes the sweetest eyes at her. It’s a happy moment that somehow breaks my heart. It’s just that good.

Once Mi-young tells him that she normally spent her birthdays alone, Gun asks her what she’d like to do this year: “If you want me to, I’ll even pluck a star from the sky for you.” *dies*

Mi-young claims she doesn’t want anything special, because it’ll be enough for her if the three of them spend the day together. But since Gun offered, she returns the same to him: “What about you? Is there something you want?”

I love how Gun’s all, Why? Would you get it for me? He keeps inching closer to Mi-young as he asks if she’s sure, and if he can really ask for anything

…Before he points to Keddongie’s mug and says he wants one too. It’s extra adorable how Gun later curses the fact that he bought two teddy bears when they end up forming a boundary between him and Mi-young in bed that night. Hah.

After Se-ra gets in trouble for being mentally checked out during practice, her friend approaches her out of concern—she knows Se-ra’s been taking sleeping pills at night and that she’s been growing increasingly distant.

“I thought that I would feel better as time passed,” Se-ra says as she begins to cry. “But it just keeps getting harder. I can’t take it. If I could go back in time… if I could have done things differently…”

Mi-young’s arrival at Daniel’s cafe jars him from staring at a picture of him and his sister, and when she asks for a favor he cheerfully says he’ll help her with anything she needs.

…But when she tells him that she wants to make something special for Gun’s birthday, his face falls. Aw.

Daniel watches her silently and intently as she paints a picture of Gun on a mug, and instead of writing his name, writes “Keddongie’s Dad.” He seems to be humoring her when he says she should pursue art classes, but he also seems half-serious before he asks when her birthday is so he can get her a present.

He’s surprised to hear that it’s tomorrow, the same as Gun’s, and since he’d rather not pass it off as fate he mumbles that it’s not so uncommon to have the same birthday. Oh, Daniel. I love you, but you’re hopeless.

Per Gun’s instructions, Manager Tak has made all sorts of arrangements and reservations for his birthday… but the reason he’s trying extra hard is because he’s jealous of Yong, so it’s uncomfortable and hilarious when he asks for assurance that he did a good job offering his bum to be approval-smacked by Gun.

It comes as a surprise to him when Gun tells him it’s Mi-young’s birthday too, and that can only mean one thing in Manager Tak’s eyes: Fate! Gun mulls over that, and denies that he’s tired when Manager Tak worries about his appearance. Eek, he’s perfectly healthy, right? Right?!

Mama Yong saves herself in the eyes of the head elder when she delivers Gun’s divorce agreement to him. She knows it’ll be the end of Gun, and tells the elder that he better finish him off with one blow this time.

At home, Mi-young makes Yong a seafood soup with a special chewy surprise: fish eyes. Yong is grossed out, but smiles through it in order not to hurt Mi-young’s feelings before he tells her she doesn’t need to stay with him.

But Mi-young surprises him when she says she wants to stay, especially after he tells her that he’s used to eating alone. “Then I’ll keep you company from now on,” Mi-young declares. “We’re family now, after all.” Yong is touched, even if he still thinks his hyung is scary.

That night, Mi-young writes another letter to Keddongie in his scrapbook in order to tell him about her and his father’s shared birthdays and how she finds it fascinating that she shares so many similarities with Gun when she thought that they were two completely different people.

In the morning, Gun goes looking for his snail with snail hands that quickly morph into Thriller hands when he spots her coming out of the shower wearing only a towel. Is it because Mi-young’s not wearing her glasses that she can’t tell he’s scanning her like a barcode?

He has to remind her that they’ll be celebrating their birthdays today, and sinks to his knees when she goes to get dressed. “I wish I was that towel!” he cries. Haha.

Thanks to Mama Young and the head elder, news of Gun and Mi-young’s divorce agreement hits all the major newspapers. An emergency Lee Clan meeting is called, with the head elder feigning ignorance as he all but screams over the shame this has brought them. During his tirade, Gun pats Mi-young’s hand for support and solidarity.

Grandma Wang can’t believe what she’s hearing and falls into her chair in grief when the pair doesn’t deny it, while the head elder accuses Mi-young of all sorts of terrible designs, even demoting her status as “madam” to just “agasshi.” Gun’s defense that she to do with the divorce agreement doesn’t work on so many hard-headed elders.

Gun instinctively says “Mom” when Mi-young’s mom comes bursting through the doors after hearing the news, causing Mom to turn on him angrily: “What did you call me? Mom?!

Even Mom thinks her daughter agreed to receive money in exchange for the baby, and attempts to drag her out kicking and screaming if she has to. “Mom,” Mi-young ventures desperately, “I love him.”

But Mom won’t hear it, and eventually pulls Mi-young out of the room. The head elder tsks that such low class people became part of their family, but is quieted when Gun warns him in a low voice that he can say what he wants about him, but isn’t allowed to defame Mi-young or her mother.

Outside, Mi-young tries to tell Mom that it’s not Gun’s fault when she agreed to the divorce as well, and begs her to consider the circumstances with which they got married in the first place. Most of all, she doesn’t want anyone to think Gun is a bad guy, which has Mom infuriated—even after all this, Mi-young dares to take Gun’s side?

Gun runs outside to beg Mom’s forgiveness, repeating over and over again that he did wrong as he asks her not to take Mi-young away. Mom at least considers him enough to say that she’s liked him ever since he married Mi-young.

And whether or not the agreement is legally binding or not doesn’t matter to Mom, as she tells her son-in-law with tears in her eyes, “You hurt my daughter. You took my daughter and made her miserable, I know that very well!”

When she asks if there’s any reason why she shouldn’t take her daughter away, Gun’s agonized expression says yes, even if he can’t find the words. Knowing that, he has no choice but to let Mom take Mi-young away, though they’re immediately met with a horde of reporters outside.

Mom does her best to try and protect her daughter, but there’s no use. Daniel, who was on his way to their house, is only able to catch a glimpse of Mi-young before she’s rushed away.

While Se-ra perks up at the news of Gun’s broken marriage, Mi-young apologizes to Mom for making her upset. There’s no more anger left in Mom, just pity and sadness as she asks her daughter why she always insists on enduring everything alone.

Grandma Wang is in worse shape at home, forcing Gun to apologize to her while she’s unconscious and hooked up to an IV. Gun: “I had such a difficult time when I first got married… so I did it even though I knew it was petty. Because I thought I at least had to do that so I could endure. But now, Grandma, there’s a place in my heart that’s deafening and awfully empty… empty. I’m going to take care of all this and make you smile, so you can get angry, but just don’t get sick, okay?”

After he leaves, Grandma opens her eyes—she’d been listening the whole time. And just like Mom, her anger has also subsided.

Manager Tak tells Gun just how badly the divorce news has impacted the company, but Gun couldn’t care less about that right now when there’s something much more important, as he numbly explains: “Today is our snail’s birthday. I shouldn’t be like this right now.”

That’s all well and good according to Manager Tak, except he doesn’t know how Gun can fix that mess—it’s not like they’re Romeo And Juliet. But something about that reference gives Gun an idea.

The mob gathered outside is in for an unexpected surprise when Gun, Manager Tak, and Lawyer Hong burst through the doors dressed as high school students (a throwback to another Jang Hyuk movie, Volcano High). Their ballsy act manages to fool the reporters, who wonder who those “students” are as Gun and Manager Tak run far, far away. It’s completely ridiculous, but totally hilarious. We needed this.

As they run like Mario and Luigi down the street, Manager Tak tells Gun that he’s already made arrangements with Mr. Choi and President Park to help Mi-young escape the mob in order to meet them.

The Soapsuds Duo feed the members of the press en masse in order to distract them as Yong, Ji-yeon, and Mi-young exit the restaurant also disguised as high school students. (This time, it’s a Successful Story of a Bright Girl reference inception’d into a Volcano High reference—Jang Nara’s name tag is her character’s name from that drama.)

When the mob isn’t convinced, Yong makes a scene by confessing his love to “noona” Mi-young, only for Ji-yeon to go off-script by acting like the jilted third wheel. She uses the opportunity to plant not one, but two on Yong (hah), which gives Mi-young the perfect opportunity to sneak away.

While Manager Tak notifies Gun that an emergency board meeting has been called to have him dismissed, Se-ra grabs a plane ticket to fly to Seoul immediately. All the while Mi-young waits at the approved rendezvous point, where Daniel calls her because he hasn’t been able to stop worrying.

Meanwhile, Manager Tak pulls a sudden U-turn away from Mi-young in an effort to get Gun to the board meeting in time to stop his own dismissal. But he’s forced to pull over regardless when Gun becomes dangerously adamant.

He tries following Gun on foot to beg him to just call Mi-young and tell her that he can’t meet her, but it’s like Gun isn’t even listening. “I’ll be back after I tell her happy birthday,” Gun insists in a frighteningly detached sort of way. “I’ll be right back.” Something’s wrong. Something’s very, very wrong.

Manager Tak finally loses it with Gun as he grabs him by the lapels and tries to shake some sense back into him. It means something when he drops to banmal as he addresses Gun like a friend: “Come back to your senses, Gun-ah!”

But Gun is as limp as a rag doll in his grasp, and only slightly more responsive as he challenges Manager Tak’s distrust in him before asking, “Do you know what I have to do right now? Don’t hold me back.”

The world spins around Gun as he tries to forge his own path on foot… before his eyes roll back into his head and he drops to the asphalt like a sack of potatoes.

Mi-young, completely unaware, tries calling Gun with no response. She reassures Keddongie that daddy must be very busy, and that they’ll just wait for him.

Keddongie’s dad (*sob*) is rushed to the ER as Daniel pulls up near Mi-young. He doesn’t interfere with her waiting, choosing instead to just watch over her for now.

A worried Doctor Moon examines a still-unconscious Gun at the hospital, and orders an MRI… which means Gun’s wedding band has to be removed. You’re killing me, show. KILLING ME.

After hours pass, Daniel gives Mi-young a call to ask how her birthday is going. It’s an opportunity for Mi-young to confide in him, but she chooses instead to inject happiness into her tone as she lies to Daniel that everything’s fine. In fact, she’s about to have dinner with Gun.

It’s heartbreaking that she’s trying to keep Daniel from worrying, even if it doesn’t work. He still walks up to her with a bag and the excuse that he’s delivering Gun’s mug so she can give him his birthday present.

“You came by because of this?” Mi-young asks, surprised. “No,” Daniel admits. “I didn’t come because of this cup. I came because I was worried about you.”

He ignores her interjections in order to ask how long she’s going to let herself be hurt by Gun. She’s confused by his sudden intensity even as she insists, with a smile, that Gun hasn’t hurt her. But Daniel sees it another way, since he knows she just lied to him about Gun being with her.

“Ever since you met him, you’ve always put up with it, suffered, and waited. But does it really not affect you?” he asks. “I wish you wouldn’t do that anymore. I can’t stand to see it now. I want to be brave about my feelings with you.” Omo, is he admitting that he’s going to pursue her?

When Gun slowly comes to at the hospital, a blurry figure hovers nearby and takes his hand. But when he squints to focus, he sees that it’s not Mi-young, but Se-ra.

While Daniel and Mi-young stand at a crossroads, Se-ra tells a very confused Gun, “It’s me.”

COMMENTS

If this is the kind of emotional havoc this show can wreak when we’re only at the halfway mark, then lord have mercy. And to think that none of this angst was caused by a fundamentally ridiculous misunderstanding between our two leads. Even after spending the last thirty minutes with my heart in my throat, I still can’t sing enough praises for this show.

I had an inkling that Mama Yong wouldn’t be as harmless as we wished she would be, but her level of maliciousness still managed to surprise me. Even if there had been more than a minuscule effort to humanize her, it still wouldn’t have made what she did any less terrible. Yes, she’s had it hard and that sucks for her, but she’s spent enough time with Mi-young at this point to know her as a person. And anyone who’s spent time with Mi-young would know that she’s a sweet, innocent soul who would rather put herself in harm’s way if it means someone else doesn’t have to be—so the fact that Mama Yong could still release those documents knowing that it would do irrevocable damage to Mi-young’s life (not to mention the growing one still in her stomach) was beyond morally repugnant. That woman is dead to me.

Despite having a horrible human being for a mother, one of my favorite moments from this episode was actually the understated moment of bonding between Mi-young and Yong. Even if he didn’t have enough courage to step up to defend her during that nightmarish family meeting, it was enough that he pitched in to help her escape. I know it wasn’t even a huge point the show was trying to make when it had much bigger fish (eyes) to fry, but it was sweet just the same.

What made this big blowup especially hard to watch was that Gun and Mi-young were technically innocent, and very much in love despite what everyone (literally everyone) now believes. It’s true that Gun drafted the divorce agreement when he shouldn’t have, but his explanation this episode was poignant precisely because he recognized his wrong and the state of mind he was in when it happened. And we know that he had the agreement amended, even if we don’t know how, so the original would’ve been moot if not for Mama Yong and that inexplicably-hateful clan elder. (Seriously, if there’s only one son born per generation, shouldn’t he care even a little about Gun?)

At the same time, it’s easy to see how their relationship could be misconstrued, which made me so proud of Mom for at least stopping to think twice about Gun. As for Daniel, it’s kind of hard to blame him for getting the wrong idea when he had no way to get the right one as an outsider looking in. All he knows is that Gun gave Mi-young the divorce agreement, that the news broke, and that Mi-young waited all day for a husband who never showed up. He has no idea that Gun’s changed since he last saw that document, or that the situation itself has changed—but he was able to prove for himself how unreliable a narrator Mi-young can be when she lied to protect Gun.

So while we have to wait another week to see how the third wheel mechanics are going to play out now that Se-ra’s back and Daniel’s officially throwing his hat in the ring, just think: It’ll all be worth it. How do I know? Because Fated To Love You is still too good to be anything less. (Unless Gun gets amnesia.)

I love this show, and I want to keep loving this show. I feel like I am in a relationship, and I need to keep the faith even though several people have told me they saw "him" with someone else.

Can I just say that I am loving what they are doing with the step brother/ I feel badly though because he is getting some of the attention and familial belonging he wants but will find out about his mother's doings and will have to choose.

Manager Tak is adorable. I want one. Really. Right now.

Gunnie collapsing in the street was so heart-breaking. He'd been riding an emotional roller coaster from the moment MY entered his life and turned it up-side-down, and the show has referenced a mysterious "genetic disease" he might fall prey to at least 3 times. He's under a lot of stress, which culminated in a virtual panic to see MY in the last part of the episode.

I don't recall a mysterious disease being part of the equation in the TW version of Fated. Does anyone else? I'm wondering how this will factor into the plot, now that that shoe seems to have dropped. I do now remember the "temporary blindness" suffered by the lead in the original version, but wasn't he just faking to keep his wife by his side? I wonder if they'll use that here also...

I'm worried, because the other MAJOR shoe from the TW version has yet to drop. But given that the K version has shown the tendency to freely diverged from the original, maybe our couple will be spared that heartbreak...? Fingers crossed....Maybe I should go out and by another box of tissues, just in case...

TW-version the lead did not have a genetic disease, only that the only male in each generation dies young.

that lead did not collapse, like Gun did, I hope this plot line will have a beneficial effect for our OTP, instead of dishing out a helping hand to the 3rd wheels, because, I truly believe that gun is in love with his wife although not ready to admit it, he knows that he lust after her body (haha).

So maybe he can use this illness to be closer to her, but I have a feeling that Se Ra will want to play nurse to Gun and then try to gain grounds with their broken relationship....

Mi young will then feel that she is intruding in on their original love and be noble and bow out so that they can be together, but then Daniel will think he has a shot!!! mmmhhh not liking where this is going.....

I too hope that our OTP will be spared the pain that the TW-version put out, but hopefully writernim is smarter in this version. we need to get back to cutesy, and boy watching Gun go through hell of sexual frustration and Mi young not know it is hilarious ;)

Even with this episode's ending, FTLY just manages to warm my heart at the end of the day. No matter how suffocating it was in those last minutes, the cute and giggling references to the Jangs' resumes-- along with Gun's unstable heart (*ahem* body) and the their deep-yet-gentile kisses-- still brings a smile to my face at the end of it all. The Volcano High and Bright Girl references had me dyingggg. It's already so ridiculously funny for viewers who won't make the connections, so those that do must be floored. ??

Honestly, amnesia never crossed my mind. I actually think Gun's reaction on the hospital bed is very in line with seeing Sera for the first time after their break-up. He would be (very) confused why she was there instead of his wife. Although he's shown no sign of lingering thoughts and feelings for Sera since their last meeting, it would make sense that he expects Sera to be angry and upset with him-- not coming to his side to comfort him. So I simply thought his confused reaction was him not expecting Sera. And now that I'm weighing the possibility of an amnesia arch, I still can't make sense of it. Not with this writing team and the way the show's turned from the original. I just don’t see it benefiting anywhere in the script. Although if there was ever a weak decision to be made, right about now would usually make the most sense haha. Pacing has been solid, but we've come to the crucial midpoint of the story where the next turn determines the audience's decision to stay with show or not. I, for one, am in for the long run. Just can't resist J(j)ang couple!^^ Thanks so much for the quick recap, @HN2. It was a tough one, mentally and emotionally.

Everything is good in their series except some of the story in the plot is missing!

I bet she will get a phone call later, come to the hospital, see that Se ra is there already, Se Ra will be all over Gun, maybe even kiss Gun, so then Mi young thinks that she is intruding and leave, with daniel witnessing it too so the misunderstanding begins....I hope that's not the case, lets wait and see....but please no amnesia.

Can we have a recap rule for no TW comparisons until after the series finishes?

It is impossible to avoid recaps that contain spoliers even if the post contains warnings and such.

I'd rather just skip the comments altogether than be fed hints as to how the original did things.

I understand that people who have watched the original TW version want to talk about the comparisons and possible divergent paths, but I question whether these particular recaps are they proper place for them.

Basic courtesy should be a prerequisite for posters, for the recappers who exert such loving care and maximum effort, and for fellow watchers.

I have not watched the original, I will likely not watch the original. Is it possible to read these comments and not get future hints?

Im a nonspoiler phobe too but didn't know recaps for this drama were still up. Just Imagine- i marathoned 24 episodes in a few days. Had only 3 hrs of sleep and was on zombie mode at the office!! If that was Jang Hyuk kissing awkwardly, please, please let him practice on me!!! ?that was just delicious to me, a real kiss in a KDrama, WOW!!!
Hilarious, sweet, sexy, goofy, adorable Jang couple!!
I am so in love with this show. I agree that this wasn't the best episode, things are a bit contrived and could have been easily explained, but I trust the writers and will wait for the payoff!
It's going to be a long week.

I was pretty frustrated with this ep as the leads seemed to just be letting people yell at them and not explain their feelings only Mi Young seemed to actually be fighting and trying to prove their true feelings. Also why the hell did no one ring Mi Young about Gun being in hospital? especially if Se Ra some how got to korea in record time and managed to locate Gun before Mi Young. I'm also pretty sad that Daniel is going the romantic route I just wanted him to remain a brotherly figure because it just seems wrong that a guy tries to get in between a family. I would say for me the drama in this episode was hard to watch and kinda annoying at the same time as I just want our couple together not apart and it feels like they're forcing them apart, not to mention I'm worried that Gun might have amnesia, given the removal of the ring and the appearance of Se Ra at that pivotal moment.

that's new soundtrack and they have not released that song yet. Maybe next two week because the time they release new soundtrack they also release its MV and it need some footage from recent episodes to fit it with the theme of the song. I guess that song is about Kim Mi Young's theme.

Re-watched episode 7 when dr. Octopus told Gun to carefully overcome his obstacles.. if it attack it could be fatal and it may suddenly appear anytime. Gun was very stressful after the divorce settlement was leaked out, Grandma Wang became sick, Mi Young left house, the emergency meeting about his dismissal the same time with his plan to celebrate Mi Young's bday together. that's why he fainted. I really curious about this genetic disease and obviously it has something to do with the brain since they always showed his brain scan. even though it has something to do with his brain, i really hope not the amnesia thingy they will take. please writers

I've become obsessed with this show!! Heavens! How wonderful are the main leads??!!?? Absolutely AMAZING...expressions---facial and body---Wow! Wow!
Both Jangs are top tier with their acting...so much so that I truly forget that "it's just acting"... so convincing both are as their characters.

Their kissing scene floored me! Watched it several times and each time, the impact was the same.

As with some of you, I don't truly believe that Gun will have amnesia...too simple a plot from such a wonderfully creative writer. Look at how surprising it's been with how the storyline's progressed.

My feeling is that he'll be consumed with intense fear that "the inherited illness" has started its course and in response, he'll want to "protect" Mi Young from again assuming the blame in causing his collapse and thus, he'll start to draw away from her.

He has a noble sense of responsibility and protectiveness towards MY. He'll not want for her to suffer when he's in the bouts of his illness. He'll try to push her away...if the writer continues to be creative, we'll be in for tears and heart wrenching moments of sadness UNTIL he discovers that his "cure" is MY. I'm keen to see how he'll "win her back!".

This may be the time when MY will undergo a personal growth and become more independent and, to wade past her sadness, she may start the road to becoming an artist herself...we've seen hints of it from Daniel's comments to her...

Having Sera back in the scene will provide him with the perfect excuse...of course this will be a temporary "state of mind"...as I don't believe that he can withstand being too long apart and disconnected from his beloved snail. :)

As with the quirky and frantically hilarious scenes we get when Gun gets the "hots' for his snail as well as the tender, sweet moments he shows her, I think that the writer will give us more surprises.

Can't wait!

Oh and I am tired of amnesia. Amnesia, I would curse you with Gun's blue balls if you rear your head in this show. Trot Lovers was the last straw. I'm starting a protest.

OK.

As much as I love Daniel Pitt, he needs to back off from Kim Min Young. Stat.

What this show doesn't need is another complication of a second lead falling in love with the lead actress. I liked him as a neighborhood oppa who advised Min Young on what to do when she was at her wits end.

For all intents and purposes, she is still a married woman, pregnant with her husband's child and it is obvious to anyone that has eyes, that she is deeply in love with her husband. Just because they are having marital issues (caused by outsiders) does not give Daniel the license to declare his feelings to her. I so hope the drama writers do not go that route.

1) I'm so mad a Gun for not just coming out and saying "I love my wife" during the family meeting. Especially after Mi Young confessed that she loves him. His speech to Mom would have been much better served if it had been delivered to the elders.

2) Secretary Tak is Ajjushi hot! Especially when he's in plain clothes without his glasses on.

3) I was getting ready to give him the Best Secretary Ever award because I love his rapport with Gun. It's awesome the way he tells him the truth instead of just Yes-sirring him like every other drama Secretary ever. BUT THEN... he goes and forgets to call Mi Young and let her know that her husband had collapsed? He's one of the handful of people who knows what's really going on AND he's the one who, two minutes before, had suggested that Gun call Mi Young and tell her he had to go to the meeting... so I know you got a phone, bruh! Worst Secretary Ever!

4) Sera, don't be That Girl. I know that you are probably under the impression that he was gonna divorce Mi Young and cone back to you. But... don't be That Girl, either! You're better than that.

5) I didn't even recognize Yong without his terrible clothes. I thought he was a new Junior Secretary or something.

6) Also, Yong, check your Moms, bruh.

Aish everywhere I go to find FTLY there's comments all on amnesia....

The ratings make me sad because they're on MBC network and MBC tend to care for ratings. I like SBS sometimes but FTLY has been a treat for me even if it's aired on my least favorite network.

It's okay, most of my recent favorite dramas did not had that big of ratings . Rather I care on its execution. Yeah this episode is gloomier than most but hello it's a drama, there is bound to have drama people. So far I like how everything is played out, even for a moment we had that elder meeting and it got angsty love how they added a little comedy with flashback of Volcano High and SSOBG. WHAT IF MY TURNS INTO YANG-SOON? Although Yang Soon is tougher than MY she annoyed. Ok this drama is driving me nuts. Even though it's so simplistic compared to all the other dramas, I'M SO OBSESSED WITH IT, I NEED TO GO SEE A THERAPIST LIKE GUN.

Yes! Loving this version of FTLY WAY more than the TW one even though I liked the TW version quite a bit. After watching every episode I come here for the recaps to share in the squeeing or tears!

Please no A!!! It's the first thing I thought of when he woke up! I said "he better not have A!"

*Possible spoiler?* There is a sliver of hope it won't be A because I saw some BTS stills where MY is taking care of Gun so maybe it's after he wakes up! Maybe it's like the TW one where Gun will milk his illness for all it's worth! Here is the link to the stills article: http://www.allkpop.com/article/2014/07/fated-to-love-you-gets-viewers-ready-for-another-episode-with-still-cuts-and-bts-photos-of-jang-hyuk-jang-na-ra-and-choi-jin-hyuk

Maybe because I was "raised" on American soap operas, the amnesia thing doesn't bother me so much. In fact, I find it entertaining. There is nothin' like a beautiful, confused and frustrated man (cue his tears and my joy). So, (here's me being Buzz Killington) that WTF look may be because he's waking up in a strange place and the last thing he remembers is Se Ra standing him up and going to NY to pursue her dream. That doesn't mean I WANT it to be amnesia. I don't want anything else hindering this relationship any further, but IJS.

Gun in that shower... I have not laughed that hard in a while. I could totally feel his frustration and man was it funny. Seriously Mi Young, you don't hear this man yelling about cold water? smh. I think she wants to, but she's not going to make the first move. She sleeps (teeters?) on the edge of that bed crumpled up so she doesn't jump his bones. Okay, in my head that's why. After that kiss, how could you not want to? I digress...

"Scanning her like a bar code": one of the best lines typed. I was like "Girl, don't you see this man biting his bottom lip?" The only thing he didn't do was rub his hands together... or did he and I missed it because I was cackling? "Even her behind is kind." Couldn't stop laughing... Gun, I wanted you to be that towel too, bro.

Backtracking a bit; am I the only one who thought that he was going to ask for bday nookie? When he said he wanted a cup I wanted to throw a pillow. Then I remembered this is K-Drama...

Just when I thought Step Mom was ineffective, she throws a punch that actually lands. But, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. When this thing backfires (and it will), she better hope she can go back to even the basement apartment she hated. I would like to note, that there was still only ONE signature on the agreement. I don't think Mi Young signed it.

The look on Gun's face when MiYoung said she loved him was priceless. Could he have looked more gutted? Oh yes, when he was trying to convince Mom not to take MiYoung away.

I was too heated about the lack of communication once Gun was admitted to the hospital. I just don't get how NO ONE thought to call MiYoung particularly Mr. Tak. If you wanna get to the board meeting to do some DC (damage control), fine. Call his wife on the way, you know, like YOU suggested when HE was trying to go say Happy Birthday to her.

I totally missed the the fact that it was stated that Se Ra was in Japan. When she showed up at the hospital, I truly wondered if she traveled through a wormhole.

I feel for Se Ra. I really do. And I hope she reunites with her brother Daniel soon cause he's got broad shoulders and she can cry on those. Bye Felicia... Bye....

I was going to do this earlier but I was working so I couldn't turn up the sound in my office and watch k-dramas.

anyway, we REALLY enjoyed the first scene of Ep 10, but I felt that the subs (though awesome), didn't quite get the nuance.

If you guys are able to get on viki and watch the first few minutes of ep 10, then see below for my slightly more nuanced translation.

KMY (barely audible): I'm scared....that if this goes on ... that I'll get to a point where I won't want to leave. ... that if it isn't you, that it just won't do... ...and if that happens... it just can't be like that for me...

LG/KMY: *LONG KISS*

LG (gently): In this whole wide world, in this world how can there be a word like "can't be"?

LG: TOUCH KMY'S CHIN

KMY: *CLOSES HER EYES*

LG: *SOFT KISS*

KMY: *IS KISSING BACK*

*dies*
*squee*

They should have just ended Ep 10 right there. I would have been perfectly happy.

sigh.

I am really hoping that this drama will keep on doing what they've been doing that made it special... They have been totally going for something different from the usual kdramas. No evil mother in law (in this case grandma in law), no totally bitchy female lead, no rich jerk... So I'm really expecting that they would also move away from the overused kdrama plot device. They were doing well without throwing in the usual irritating conflicts/obstacles just to drive the plot.

As much as I LOVE the two characters/actors, if they throw in the amnesia in there, I'd be too irritated and just drop the drama. I do not want to go through watching the same tiring cycle. It's just too hard to watch.

First of all, thanks Hn2 for the recap..

Oh my! what a week!, and what a cliffhanger that was.

Episode 10 is really like a roller coaster ride for me.. it took me up, spin me round and round and then dropped me like a melted ice cream in the end..

Overall, it is great less the following i'm about to mention coz I think the writer and pd could have made better:

1. what's with the awkwardness after that fiery kiss in the auction date? I was like expecting at least a holding hands while sitting and talking though I would have preferred LG to be bolder going to the next level.. lol..

2. it would have been a chance for LG to speak of, praise and defend MY in front of his elders like how he did in front of MY's office mates and even at the company gathering in the previous episodes..

3. or if the writer doesn't want for LG to do so, it would have been better if grandma Wang just quickly fell ill and has to be rushed to a hospital thereby no chance for LG to defend MY in front of the elders.. or it can be that before he could defend her, MY's mother came in earlier and took MY away without giving LG the chance to do so.

4. it would have been better to show us why Secretary Tak or Dr. Octopus did not have the opportunity to call/inform MY of LG's health condition lest we think about about these poor souls..

5. personally, i did not like DP confessing his feelings to MY abruptly, coz i think he would have been more concern about the feelings of MY (considering his personality) rather than what he feels towards her.. think about it, the poor girl's got a lot in her head and he wants to add to her worries and/or distraction.. it doesn't fit his persona so far. I know lovers are foolish but he is an oppa to her, who always guides and gives her strength.

I hope that by the next episode, all these clan misunderstandings would be resolved and would not be dragged too long. I know the plot is "absence makes the heart grow funder" but please drama.. break it to me gently and mend it at once, ha.

For point 2 - it's no longer as simple as Geon coming out and defend MY, and things will be resolved. Remember epi 8, when he came out to defend MY, it works because he had credibility. Now, the news came out, the divorce agreement was out - it's like both Geon and MY had been lying to everyone. Everyone is thinking: "what Geon said that night at the charity ball was just putting up a show, designed to deceive!" This is so impactful because it is so so so real - this is what happens in real life - no matter what is the truth, people only believe what they want to believe.

epi 10 only works because of the scene in epi 8 where Geon defended MY. The more heroic the defend in epi 8, the deeper the hole they dig for themselves in epi 10. The sweeter the scene was in epi 8, the more heartbreaking to see the separation in epi 10. Everything was corresponding. I love this epi.

I also thought they'll pull up the Amnesia plot when he woke up, they will totally make me fall even deeper into this drama (if that's possible) if Gun starts asking where's MY right after he's awake. That opening scene was so cuuuuuuute! And his sexual frustrations mixed with her being so innocent she can't even tell OMG how awesome and lovely <3. I don't understand why he didn't speak up to the elders and said he loves her back too. WTF dude?! Are you letting go just like that?! The only drama where the amnesia was well developed to me was I hear your voice, I was like "they ruined it" but TG I was soooo wrong! But, I doubt that plot would turn out good in this case. Let's cross our fingers and hope they don't go that way. By the way, am I the only one who thinks both Gun and Daniel's voices are so sexy?

If he gets amnesia, I'm not watching anymore. Also, Sera's character is very annoying, and I hope that her part of the story doesn't become unnecessarily drawn out. What Yong's mom did was very cliche and irritating. I have LOVED this show so far, but things could get bad now. Finally, please bring back Gun's original hair style. The flat look is not attractive. :(

**SPOILERS AHEAD*****

I didn't watch the original version but I did read the comments at the end of the episode on viki and after rewatching the end of this episode, I really don't think they will play the amnesia card.
If you rewatch again, Gun looks confused at first at Se Ra. It was when she said, "Gun, it's me," that he got a look of shock.
It is believed that he may have temporary blindness. Also, I saw BTS of later episodes and there's a picture of Mi Young helping Gun wash his hair. So I don't think there will be amnesia!

I LOVE this show! I like the characters true feelings for each other, especially his sexual frustration. Oh, and that kiss!! Wowzers! I wish there were more kisses like that in K-dramas. When they were sitting on the stairs, I wanted him to say "let's go back to our place, pronto." I hope to God they don't pull the amnesia card either. But he's supposed to have an illness and every male has had it in his family. He's often expressed to Dr. Octopus his fear of getting it. But knowing how dramas go...I'm sure whatever it is there will be plenty of tears and heartbreak. Usually, writers pull amnesia if they don't know where to take the show, which is a lack of creativity. I also doubt Korean fans would want that either, so I couldn't see them asking to go in that direction. I was starting to wonder how are the writers were going to pull them apart now they're together. The marriage contract scandal was good and, honestly, I didn't see that coming.

I liked a comment on here that the show is about "not forgetting." I haven't seen the original. Waiting for this one to end to do that. I feel sorry for Se-ra. I can see why she's heartbroken. Lee Gun is a cool guy. His laugh was getting on my nerves, but he's funny. I'm used to it now. Boy, is his mother is downright awful! I really like grandma and Mi-young's family. 10 more episodes. What's in store for us?! Ugh, can't wait till next week to find out what happens!

I'm a little late catching up with these last couple eps. So I had the opportunity to look through everyone's comments here and feel the joy of everyone else loving this show as well as feeling the dread that it might drift into cliché territory.

I haven't seen the TW version, but I did find out about the heartbreaking twist that one had. This feels more like a reboot as opposed to a remake. So who knows how the story will be altered from the original.

While it is anyone's guess what changes this version will bring, I have some suspicions based on this episode and I was wondering if anyone else picked up on them the way that I did.

MY and Gun may be having twins. I know it is far fetched!! But hear me out.

-The fetus seems to have a big head for his gestational age. Maybe it appears big because it's two babies in fact and the sonogram can't distinguish it because of the position. (or the extra large head is making it hard to identify the 2nd child?) There are stories about sonogram errors early in the pregnancy, so I find the idea plausible.

-Purchasing the twin bears (a cute coincidence that they would actually *need* two.) Plus, all those extra bottles will come in handy as well.)

-Meeting the twin of their prenatal teacher. It be really convenient to get advice about twins from the prenatal teacher now that they have set up the fact that she is a twin and hence would know a thing or two about the topic first hand.

While this all may just be wishful thinking, I'm choosing to focus on that instead of dreading amnesia for Gun. Can't wait till next week :) Love the recaps & love the comments.

That kiss... wowza! I mean, just wonderful, and she sweetly responded instead of standing there like a robot.

The scene where she is waiting for him to come pick her up for the birthday date is so poignant because she is 100% sure he is coming. He's late, but she trusts that he will show, no questions asked. I think this scene is important because they just went through so much external angst as a couple, but she is still sure about her feelings and trusts in his. Daniel coming over to call her out on "the lie" seems to be the turning point. He inserts uncertainty. And then of course, Gun will never show.

I started watching because of those little snippets (and because Jang Nara is adorable) and I am LOVING this show. It makes me laugh so hard I'm not allowed to watch it in bed and it also makes me cry (not to mention the hotness of Jang Hyuk).

Also have to say I love the background info you guys bring to the viewing. That karaoke scene was 1000% enriched by learning here that that was 90s him in the background!
