Triangle: Episode 10

If this show has taught us only one thing, it’s that you’d never want to get on any of these brothers’ bad sides, because the world did something to our trio of non-heroes that just can’t be undone. On the upside, this hour sees Young-dal possibly learning what it means to be a good person (even if he has to just fake it for now), and while it tears him further away from youngest brother Yang-ha, it brings him closer to mother hen Dong-soo. When was the last time anyone was this excited for a family reunion?

EPISODE 10 RECAP

Both Young-dal and Jang-soo look surprised to see Jung-hee as the VIP dealer, and their gazes don’t go unnoticed by others in the room.

While Yang-ha greets a newly-promoted Dong-soo in his office, the game begins downstairs. Whatever Dong-soo’s task is remains uncertain as Yang-ha watches the game via multiple cameras, intent on finding even the slightest hint that Young-dal is pulling a con.

So far, the game is going according to Young-dal’s plan as he keeps making only the minimum bet until they can manage to pull off the card switch.

Yang-ha’s already been briefed by his casino managers on how the con would work theoretically, even though they’re dubious that Young-dal has the skill to pull a bait-and-switch in front of so many watchful eyes.

He then calls Dong-soo to take a look at the screen and gives him his task: Once Young-dal is caught pulling his scheme, Dong-soo is to use security guards to restrain him before turning him over to the police.

Obviously, Yang-ha has no idea that Dong-soo and Young-dal know each other, and the inner conflict shows on Dong-soo’s face as he attempts to suggest that Yang-ha try stopping Young-dal before he pulls the scheme, therefore saving him from trouble.

But Yang-ha just smiles. “It’s because I want to make sure that bastard gets locked up behind bars.” Ah, so this is less about the casino, and more about getting him away from Jung-hee.

Young-dal heads to the bathroom after getting an urgent text from Dong-soo to call him immediately. When he does, Dong-soo warns him that the casino is onto him and orders him to stop the game unless he wants to end up in jail. Aww, Dong-soo! Love.

The casino managers think that Young-dal is preparing to pull his con when he takes his boys out for a chat, when in reality he tells them that the plan is off. Top Dog is sent away before he can be arrested, though the boys are shocked when Young-dal claims he’s still going to play the game. Only without tricks.

This is probably the worst thing he could’ve said to them, as both worry about what Young-dal would do if he ended up blowing all of Chairman Go’s money. “I’ll just win it back,” Young-dal replies. Baaad sign. It’s the return of Gambling Addicted Young-dal.

Jang-soo and Jailbreak’s attempts to dissuade their friend don’t work, since Young-dal has taken the fatalistic approach: “When will I ever get another chance to play with this kind of money again? I’m going to play for real, so if you guys are too scared to do it, then stay out of it.”

Chairman Go is with Boss Min when they receive the news that the plan has been called off, and both have very different reactions: Boss Min is pleased that Young-dal chose the path of least idiocy (since the scam seemed doomed from the start), while Chairman Go starts reconsidering Young-dal’s usefulness.

Young-dal’s next bet goes up to thirty million won (about $30,000), and despite his friends huffing and puffing all over his cards, he loses his hand to Jung-hee. Even she seems disappointed in the outcome and apologizes, while the boys try to convince Young-dal to quit now before he loses even more.

However, Young-dal is never one to quit while he’s ahead or behind, and bets another thirty million. Everyone takes a moment to stare at each other, which includes Dong-soo watching Yang-ha contemplatively. Hmm.

Morning dawns, and we find Young-dal and his crew walking out of the casino with serious expressions. Oh no, he really lost all of it?

Casino unni Hyun-mi finds Jung-hee sitting dejectedly in the women’s locker room, feeling like she did something wrong. Aw. Hyun-mi can’t find a way to console her other than to say that she couldn’t imagine what Jung-hee was going through.

Lady Kim pays a visit to Madame Jang’s casino to ask if Young-dal was arrested, only to hear the exact opposite… Young-dal won a record amount of money at the casino last night(!!). I was so not expecting that. Huzzah!

But when his former lover argues that he cheated and should’ve gone to jail (since she vowed to ruin him), Madame Jang’s lackey dejectedly explains that if Young-dal didn’t get arrested, it’s because he didn’t cheat. He won the money fairly, which leaves them with nothing.

The leader of the Annoying Sunbae Trio rallies the other dealers against Jung-hee, whom she claims is in cahoots with Young-dal since he keeps winning whenever she’s dealing.

She takes the opportunity to confront Jung-hee over her lack of qualification, even though Hyun-mi tries to stand up for her by saying that all the money she made in tips last night will be split amongst the dealers. Even this doesn’t appease Sunbae Leader.

But finally, Jung-hee stands up for herself and looks her sunbae straight in the eye as she announces to the entire room that she has all the qualifications to be a dealer and made no mistakes last night. Furthermore, if her sunbae keeps terrorizing her, she’ll report her to the higher ups and let them decide who’s right and who deserves to be fired.

Suddenly, her sunbae changes tune, all, Let’s not overreact… Only for Jung-hee to add: “If you don’t think you can back up your words, then keep your mouth shut.” Snap.

Boss Min praises Young-dal for making the safe bet in pulling out of his scheme, but is totally taken aback when Young-dal not only gives her the money Chairman Go lent him to gamble, but allll his winnings.

She had no idea he’d stayed to play, and Jailbreak happily informs the room that Young-dal is the only person in Daejung Casino’s history to win so much in one night. Young-dal breaks out into a huge, happy smile. I can only assume Boss Min is trying to do the same.

Yang-ha is left in a foul mood after his casino managers assure him that there was no way Young-dal could’ve cheated. Dong-soo assumes the mood is due to the money the house lost, but if anything, Yang-ha tells him that casino profits will only increase when others try to replicate Young-dal’s success.

The reason he’s angry, Yang-ha admits, is because he wanted Young-dal behind bars. Dong-soo finally asks if Yang-ha has some kind of grudge against Young-dal, Yang-ha replies, “I’m not sure. He’s just a gangster from Sabuk I met coincidentally, but there’s just something about him that gets on my nerves.”

But he vows that, no matter what, he’ll make sure Young-dal goes to jail. His rage reaches a boiling point when he goes back over the security footage and finds that Young-dal had arrogantly smiled up at the camera as if he knew Yang-ha was watching. Yang-ha Smash!

Young-dal leaves his suddenly-appreciative friends for a meeting with Dong-soo, where he thanks him for tipping him off last night and saving his skin. When he asks how Dong-soo knew about it, Dong-soo plainly reveals that he’s been hired as Daejung Casino’s director of security, but declines to explain why.

Dong-soo asks how Young-dal knows Yang-ha, and Young-dal admits that theirs was a chance meeting but that he gambled last night in the hopes of pissing him off. Luckily, it worked.

But Dong-soo warns him to be careful, since Yang-ha is out for his blood right now. “You and I still have a job to do,” Dong-soo reminds him. “Don’t hurt yourself doing something stupid before we bring [Chairman Go] down.” Aw, Dong-soo still trusts him.

Grandma leaves Jung-hee in charge of dinner while she goes to pick wild herbs on a mountain (that can’t possibly end badly), and after settling in, Jung-hee gets a text from Young-dal, who’s also home, thanking her for last night’s win while also expressing concern that it caused her trouble at work.

It’s cute how he waits right by his phone for her to text back, and how wide his grin becomes the moment she does. In her text, she writes that watching him gamble last night made her nervous, even though it’s her job as a dealer to not be.

“A person’s luck can’t always be good,” she adds. “I hope that you won’t gamble your life away.” Young-dal takes her advice to heart, maybe for the first time ever.

Dong-soo wants to help Shin-hye celebrate her father’s birthday that night, but she tells him not to come since she’s going to break the news to her father she’s getting a divorce. Yikes.

When Shin-hye asks why Dong-soo’s working for Chairman Yoon, he tells her the truth he wasn’t willing to share with Young-dal earlier: Chairman Yoon thinks he’ll help him take down Chairman Go, but in reality, Dong-soo wants to take down both of them by putting one against the other.

“Their greed will be their downfall,” Dong-soo says with a sharp gleam in his eye. “Their involvement in my father’s death boils down to their greed. As long as they’re unable to put aside that greed, I’ll make them fight until they end up destroying each other.”

While Director Hyun tries and fails to turn Chairman Yoon against his own son, said son receives a background report on Dong-soo only to find out some interesting news: Dong-soo is the son of the man who died during the miner’s strike in Sabuk.

But more importantly, Yang-ha knows (and still seems haunted by) the fact that his adoptive father ordered Chairman Go to murder Dong-soo’s father.

Jung-hee is happy to get called away from her fellow dealers asking about her possible relationship to Yang-ha by her old friend/exposition fairy who pops up from time to time in the casino.

She’d asked him to find out the official word on Young-dal’s big win, and he tells her she has nothing to worry about—no one blames her for all the money Young-dal won, nor can they find any evidence that he cheated.

Shin-hye’s father is completely taken aback when she tells him she’s getting a divorce, and while he thinks it’s sudden, she breaks it to him that she and Director Hyun have already been separated for two years. But when she tells him the reason why (“I don’t love him”) her father all but scoffs—what married couple stays together out of love, anyway?

Marriage is about responsibility, he argues, but Shin-hye replies that her relationship was always an ill-fated one right from the start. “Is it because of me?” Chief Hwang asks hesitantly. “Was it because of me that you got yourself into a marriage you didn’t want?”

Her silence confirms the answer, and while Chief Hwang seems sorry, he doesn’t apologize for wanting the best for her—he always knew she had Dong-soo in her heart, but he never thought Dong-soo would amount to much without an education and wanted her to be with someone more impressive. Someone like Director Hyun.

Shin-hye is a good daughter, since she makes sure to tell her father that she’s always admired him the most. But unlike him, she never saw Dong-soo as inferior. “I no longer want to live my life by fooling myself.”

Dong-soo gives flowers to his favorite smarmy ajumma (whom he adorably calls imo, or aunt) at the new restaurant she just opened where he meets with his former team member and police insider DETECTIVE TAK.

After receiving a gift of money for his wife, Detective Tak gives Dong-soo the information he’d requested on Chairman Go’s recent actions. Turns out he’s been threatening a major shareholder of Daejung Casino’s stocks in an effort to get those shares for himself.

As for the other matter Dong-soo wanted him to look into, it’s a bit of a mystery. Dong-soo wanted to know the whereabouts of some mystery woman who Detective Tak did find, though he seems reticent to tell Dong-soo about her current state.

The smarmy ajumma finds Dong-soo sulking later and asks why, only for him to reveal that Detective Tak found his mother… the woman who abandoned him and his brothers. Ohhh. I’d just assumed she was dead, so it’s got to be like a knife in Dong-soo’s heart that she’s been living fine without them.

Yang-ha meets with Shin-hye to ask her about Dong-soo, since she’s the one who introduced him to his father, Chairman Yoon. Since she’s an open book of information on all her clients, she answers Yang-ha’s question regarding Dong-soo’s beef with Chairman Go by telling him that two of Dong-soo’s police colleagues died because of him.

“That’s all I know,” she says. “If you want to know more, ask him directly.” Yang-ha looks troubled… I wonder if he’s worried that Dong-soo’s revenge scheme will encompass his father as well as Chairman Go, since both were responsible for killing Daddy Jang.

I got two whole seconds to wonder about that, since Yang-ha tells his father about Dong-soo’s parentage and his concern as to whether that was the reason Dong-soo applied for the job.

He also argues that even without knowing whether Dong-soo knows about his father’s not-so-accidental death, they’d just be better off firing him anyway. His father decides to keep Dong-soo employed, citing the “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer” adage.

While Young-dal fails to win any points with Jung-hee’s little brother, Jang-soo’s father changes his tune about calling Young-dal good-for-nothing now that he won all that money. Get in line.

Young-dal smiles as he thinks back to Jung-hee’s speech about how he doesn’t have to feel ashamed around her when she’s no better than he is, though his expression darkens as he rereads her “Don’t gamble your life away” text…

…Especially since he flashes back to a recent meeting where Chairman Go officially accepted him as one of his own, claiming, “I feel like I’m looking at my past self when I look at you.” Oh, great. He tears down some boundaries with Young-dal by instructing him to call him “hyung-nim” instead of “chairman” now.

You can almost see the shame written all over Young-dal’s face, at least until Jang-soo comes in to excitedly tell his friend how everyone’s opinions of him being a worthless street mutt have changed now that he won it big. Yay…?

However, Young-dal seems to have been the only one wondering about just how the casino knew about their scheme ahead of time. On his orders, Jailbreak finds the hidden camera in their office, proving that Madame Jang and her lackey were the ones who sold them out.

So the three of them storm Madame Jang’s casino and kick all her customers out in order to have some alone time. Young-dal uses it to punch Jang’s lackey in the face before addressing Lady Kim with fire in his eyes: “Have you really made up your mind to destroy me, Noonim?”

He warns her that she’s playing a very dangerous game by provoking someone as ruthless as him, and for the first time, Lady Kim’s stricken expression seems to show that she believes his threats. For such a slight man, he literally radiates menace as he warns the three of them, Madame Jang included, that he’ll shut down their casino for good if they ever try crossing him again.

While Yang-ha deals with Chairman Go threatening Daejung Casino shareholders, Young-dal gives what he thinks is the good news of being accepted by Chairman Go to Boss Min.

She’s much less enthused, much more jaded, and warns Young-dal not to trust Chairman Go as far as he can spit—and to never, ever put his life on the line for a gangster who doesn’t know the meaning of the word loyalty.

Yang-ha doesn’t mince words when he meets with Chairman Go, and tells him point blank that Dong-soo is the son of Jang Jung-kook, the man Go killed.

It’s kind of funny how Chairman Go doesn’t even ask how Yang-ha got that information, nor does he even try denying his role in the murder. Though Yang-ha’s not sure whether Dong-soo knows the truth about his father’s death, he offers to drop his war with Chairman Go in favor of joining hands against a common enemy: Dong-soo.

The deal Yang-ha offers sounds too good to be true, since it includes all the things Chairman Go has been coveting as of late, including Daejung Group shares and a piece of that island resort pie. And all Chairman Go has to do is one little favor in return: “Get rid of Heo Young-dal for me. I’d prefer that he be left to rot behind bars.” That’s what this all boils down to?!

I’d almost forgotten that Madame Jang’s casino is owned by someone else, and we’re still given no clues as to who he is except for the fact that he’s trying to figure out a way to get rid of the tres amigos.

Even so, Madame Jang looks as though she wasn’t expecting the ensuing police raid—especially since she and her lackey end up in cuffs right alongside Young-dal and his boys.

When Boss Min finds out about Young-dal’s arrest, she calls Chairman Go expecting him to help… only to be told to let Young-dal rot in jail. Well, that was fast.

Madame Jang and her lackey get bailed out, leaving Young-dal and his friends behind. But Young-dal isn’t worried (yet), since he’s sure Chairman Go will spring them out.

Yang-ha smiles when he hears the news of Young-dal’s arrest, and makes it downstairs just in time to see Jung-hee receive the same news with a worried and nervous expression. He stares at her from afar for a long, unreadable moment.

Even though local Detective Gook headed the police raid, he still treats Young-dal as something of a trouble-making friend. At least enough to tell him that there’s no way for him to weasel out of what’s coming—the prosecution plans to indict him and send him straight to prison.

COMMENTS

Dong-soo’s slow-burning revenge plan is in some serious trouble now, especially if his ambitious plot to pit one chairman against the other has now been obliterated under the weight of Yang-ha’s pettiness. I sincerely hope that Yang-ha joining hands with Chairman Go is all some sort of elaborate scheme, because if he put all that animosity (and a full-on declaration of war) aside just to see Young-dal suffer, it seems awfully short-sighted for a character who’s done a fair job so far of convincing us that he’s the most cunning of the three.

Normally, I’m always the one rooting for any characters suffering from unrequited crushes, and while I find Yang-ha interesting in a spider-in-a-jar sort of way, there’s very little to like about him—and that makes his subsequent crush on Jung-hee strangely unnerving. I had even begun to think that his feud with Young-dal stopped being about Jung-hee and became a matter of pride, but watching Yang-ha rush to see Jung-hee’s reaction to an arrest he orchestrated tells me that this is still all about her.

But instead of trying any traditional methods of wooing, or even just talking to Jung-hee, Yang-ha seems to believe that he’ll have her all to himself as soon as Young-dal is out of the way. There’s been no doubt about Yang-ha’s mental issues from the start, but this episode sets a whole new precedent by proving just how far Yang-ha is willing to go without making so much as a blip on his questionably-existent moral radar. And if Yang-ha is willing to team up with a man he literally knows to be a murderer in order to get rid of a romantic rival, what else is he capable of? He’s crazy enough to where I’d be legitimately worried if Jung-hee was caught alone with him. If only Shin-hye knew how to do her job.

Surprisingly, I’ve been liking Boss Min’s role in Young-dal’s life these past couple of weeks. Weirdly enough, she’s the closest thing to a mother figure he’s got, plus she seems to legitimately give a chip about him in a sea of people who couldn’t care less. It’s so sad whenever she brings Young-dal back to earth at any given moment, because his transition from naive happiness to sad understanding is like watching a kid holding a bunch of balloons while his crazy aunt occasionally pops one to remind him what failure feels like. Yes, Young-dal could use the life lessons—especially when it comes to trusting the nefariously idiotic Chairman Go—but darn it, stop hurting him!

All told, I’m most interested to see whether Dong-soo wisens up to the fact that his employer had only to do a background check on him to guess his full agenda, and whether he has any power in his current position to be of any help to Young-dal. So far I’m loving their growing friendship/bromance, and now that Young-dal seems to understand what it is to feel guilt, maybe he’ll think twice about betraying Dong-soo next time—if it ever comes to that again.

At the top, Headsno2 chose DBSK's Triangle. It was the title track from their first Korean album and had an interesting concept.. All I will say is that it involved hair extensions.. and that you've been warned haha.

if the writer is looking for man-pain,
i believe that we're heading to that soon...and triple man pain it is..
the scene that i really like is when youngdal smirk at the cctv knowing that yangha is watching..that totally pissed of yang ha..and somehow i also feel happy for youngdal..
the other scene is when youngdal punch madam kang lackey and threaten noonim...wow..he is being serious and noonim also look scared...seriously who is the casino owner?it seem so easy for jang madam to be bail out..
and things get serious for three bros and yang ha being the antagonist and crazy self..so it means that shin hye was never able to help him cure..now that i see it shinhye is really incompetent eventhough coming from prestigious college.(heh)..
please give youngdal some sweet moment,he is suffering too much..let the romantic dalhee moment cure his loneliness..i want more from dalhee writernim..

I hope not, because she is not old enough to look like Dong Soo's mother. It would be another miscast, like with Kang Shin Il's character being a father to Oh Yeon Soo's. Jeong So Hee is only 2 years older than Lee Beom Soo. So please, don't do it, Choi...

that's what i think too.. she's too young for that role.. and yup..shin hye's father is a miscast.. maybe the restaurant ahjumma? too young as well.. maybe they'll introduce new character.. coz, the oldest character is junghee's grandma.. and she's obviously not the mother of those three..LOL.. that will be funny if the writer does that..

Would it be really a problem? Because if you look at it like this, you can see Dongsoo looks old enough to be Youngdal's and Yangha's father... but then their chemistry helped to make the characters believable.

It would be, because while one can have a brother 15 and even more years older (there are siblings with huge age gaps, so it's realistic), one cannot have a mother who looks barely 5 years older.

If Dong Soo is 40, she should be at least 61 for her to have had him legally. So no, it's not the same. Even if she had him the minute she was biologically able (which would be very creepy), she still looks too young.

Dong Soo is actually 37, so she'd have to be 58. The lady does not look over 50. She could play their older sister alright, but not mom.

0

Hmmm there's always a possibility. Actually, it would make sense if she was like super young at that time hence she just tried to scape her life . 55 years old should be ok for the actress... I mean she looks in her fifties.

0

@Lizz, I personally don't think she looks in her 50s and I am not sure a drama would show underage pregnancy in present day. His dad also looked definitely 35+ when he died, so he was probably an adult when he had Dong Soo, which would mean the mom would need to be one as well.

If they went there, it would look silly and unrealistic. Brothers with even a 20 year age gap is not uncommon or biologically impossible. Jeong So Hee being Lee Beom Soo's mom is pretty high up on the ridiculous scale.

But since we have Kang Shin Il and Oh Yeon Soo as father and daughter, I don't consider this all that impossible here. I still hope they won't go there twice though.

0

It wouldn't be the first time I see an under-age pregnancy in a Korean drama/movie. They even made it look cute in "JUNO".
Under-age pregnancy is a reality that can happen in any place and Triangle is not a drama that holds back when trying to show a raw reality. However, I don't think she is their mother, but I don't totally discard it as a possibility.

0

It's Dramaland. Nothing is impossible. But considering their dad was clearly an adult when they had their first child, an underage bride would make him a pedophile. That would be kind of awkward at parent-teacher meetings and all. :P

I do believe the drama can go there, but I also feel the actors for son and dad do not look in any way within the ages they would need to be for it to work with an actress this young in a realistic manner.

Still, the fact that she is somehow going mother hen on Yeong Dal is suspicious. So I do fear we might be going there. Question is, if it's her, did she approach Go on purpose, perhaps? Revenge over family? It has so much potential for "draaamaaa", that I do believe it's possible.

0

I LOLed your pedophile comment...but yeah, you're absolutely right -- the potential big age difference (if she really is supposed to be Mom) is a bit icky -- in Korea or anywhere else. Even now, if I see couples with big age gaps (like at least 12 years), it's just like [he/she] was in high school when they were born! sort of thing, lol...

But anyway, I definitely agree with you -- Boss Min's sudden motherly ways is raising red flags. I mean, isn't she basically one of Skunk Go's people? I was thinking it was super nice of her to give Young-dal warranted advice and how not to trust SG because he's not trustworthy...but now, it's just a bit touch shady, since it's continuing to go on. It's like she wants to steer him towards becoming a legitimate gangster, without having to get SG's approval and/or respect -- and to avoid being cast aside once he's stopped being 'useful' to SG.

Who knows, maybe she's just doling out advice. But if the writer is gonna go in that direction of her being Mom -- and, like you said, she purposefully approached SG to be one of his people for revenge -- that does raise the potential for so much drama.

We could be possibly over-thinking this...but at the same time, it could still be possible. There's still time for the intro of new characters (I'd be leaning more towards your possibility if we had like 3-4 episodes left), but I guess we shall see...

0

@Tara, I find nothing icky about people in love, be it 5 years or 30 between them and I believe they do not deserve being judged for their personal life and happiness. But the line is drawn when one is a minor. That is wrong. Two consenting adults isn't. And if they go with a young actress for the mom, daddy and this family will suddenly get even more messed up.

As for the plot, if they do go there, it does explain a lot. Boss Min does not look like a mother type of person and with Yeong Dal not having his original name, I doubt she recognizes him, but writing-wise, her being so nice to him is fishy.

I am not a fan of birth secrets, but both the casino owner and mother characters not having been shown means it is possible we have seen them both already. We would have seen the mother in the past if they do plan to bring her back, but we didn't. Why?

Same with the casino owner. There is no reason for Madam Jang to not be the owner, for them to introduce such a twist, unless they want to introduce someone in said owner's place. If it were a random new character, they would have done it already. But did not. So it must be someone we know.

0

Oh, I didn't mean if they are both adults/over 18...because, you're absolutely right -- they are consenting adults and they got every right to be happy, regardless the age. I'm all for that.

I was agreeing with you that I would find it icky if the mother was underage...because one can't be considered being able to give consent if they are underage.

It slipped my mind that Young-dal isn't his given name, and I know it's a well-used trope in dramaland where the mom can't recognize her offspring. I, too, don't like birth secrets...too often utilized in dramaland, but I do hope the reveal of Mom's identity will be done soon. I'm not really excited towards the possibility that Boss Min's overly nice gestures to YD is because she feels a connection to him, blood-wise...I'd prefer a new character reveal if they are gonna go that route.

As for the underground casino owner...that is an interesting way to put it, although I'm still leaning towards Shin-hye's husband as potentially being the owner. He's the one that approached Skunk Go about getting the rights to develop a casino on some resort land (from what I remember?).

I'm curious about their mother. Now their mother was just mentioned where she lived now.Except this information, there is nothing about their mother.I think their mother is another foreshadowing of this story.Because in this episode, every one is like the small buttons connecting the whole story.

No, it won't be. I guess their mother will appear as surprising (??) to all.

First of all, why did she leave her three little sons right away after her husband died? There were no clues yet as of the moment. And wishing by the time she would be revealed, I demand her explanation for her abandonment of her kids before.

My guess is: she might be married to a wealthy man, but the man can be related to either Go Bok Tae or Mr. Yoon. I dunno how I thought of this, maybe to strangle another knot to the story?

We do not know how accurate or updated the information he got is or if the person he met confirmed it was her. If the mother ran to save her life or because she knew who killed her husband, it is possible she hid herself. We need more details on what the Detective found out to be sure of anything.

But I also do not really believe they will go there. I fear it and know they are capable of it, but hope and believe they won't do it.

With all Yang He's ability to find out background ' s on people, I wonder if he's looked into his own adoption. As a parent with an adopted child I wonder about South Korean adoption laws - what kind of records are kept, does the adoptee have access to them when he/she becomes an adult, etc. I would think Yang Ha would be curious.

Well, we can learn a bit from everything and of course it's better if it isn't hidden under a veil of sugar. The scenes in Triangle tell you the raw sad/sad/hard story of three brother and all the people surrounding them. That and that only.

Not agree. Triangle is not only showing us the value in relationship between family, friends and people around you. But it also has a strong element by showing the value of money, the value of dream, motivation and also about trust. I can't describe my actual feeling on how this drama gives impact indirectly to me personally. But I'm really thankful to the writer, director and all casts.

I really can't take Yang-ha seriously, he's such a baby, that's not saying Im Siwan is not doing a good job though. And though I hate what he is doing to Youngdal for the sake of his infatuation to Junghee, I am enjoying it at the same time because of the consequences of his actions that's coming in future episodes. I can't wait for these two younger brothers to know who they really to each other. It's gonna be one hell of a payback time for Youngdal. And I hope Dongsoo's next move is to find his brothers now that he's found their mother, before they seriously hurt each other.
Thanks for the recap HeadsNo2. :)

Great recap,sepecially the last picture.Thanks,headsno2!

After rewatching EP9,I feel that there was something untold by GBT during Young Dal's visit to the hospital.GBT wasn't as surprised and delighted to hear the news about Young Dal's takeover of the underground casino. He pushed him to scam on Daejung Casino, which is a 90% likely failure try.

Considering that soon after he made a deal with Yong Ha,the underground casino was swept by the police,GBT could possibly be the one pulling the wire.He has forces in Police which is why he can always get rid of Dong soo and avoid being in jail.If he was the real owner of the underground casino,I think it's reasonable that he didn't act on Young Dal's takeover right away and then put him in jail soon as he decided to get rid of Young Dal in exchange for Daejung Group's collaboration.

Wow. That's actually a very smart guess. I also found strange tha GBT didn't look that delighted to know Youngdahl took over the underground casino. If your theory ends up being right then it would totally fit with the situation!

But why would GBT feel bothered by that? Youngdal is after all one of his people... or he intended to be. He knows YD would have done anything to receive his approval.

Required fields are marked *

GBT didn't treat him as one of his people before he successfully won a big deal at Daejung Casino. He had planned to use him as the hound to bite Dong soo,but Dong soo had gave up being a police and built an cooperation with Yong Taejung who was then the enemy of GBT.I think it's reasonable for GBT to ask Young Dal to scam at Daejung Casino considering that he planned to make a stir at Daejung which if successful would hurt DS and TJ both.
When he heard that Young Dal had gave up the scam plan,he dissed him like a trash“I thought him a piece of work, now I seems to be wrong.”
If Young Dal didn't win,GBT would soon act to discard him.

Required fields are marked *

Yes. I know he is only using Youngdal. Probably, even YD knows that, but isn't it better for a man like GBT to have someone he can "use" to manage his business? And YD showed himself always eager to serve him properly...

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I think it's because he didn't expect Youngdal to prove his value this way.He gambled with Boss Min's fund support instead of GBT's which might mean that the money he won at the game owes to Boss Min instead of GBT.GBT might think he was a threat to him.

Apart from that,he still needed to test Youngdal's loyalty and ability to see if he can really use this guy.So he asked him to go the Daejung casino. If Youngdal failed and got caught,no need to get rid of him by his own hand. And if he won, then Youngdal was in. Hearing Youngdal's winning,GBT gladly asked Youngdal to call him 'hiong'.I think that's the first moment he accepted Youngdal as his own man, though the time didn't last long.

0

I wondered if perhaps Shin-hye's husband was the owner, but I was just fishing around for other possibilities than GBT.

I want to know what happens next so much. Yang Ha is surely going to regret having done this to his own brother. But, his state of mind is really very hard to define. Our poor Young Dal, I think this will make him harder than he is, sadly trust is so hard to find around him. Is it bad of me to want him to get stronger? I want to see that side of him that knows how to fight out of a situation like this, and claw it out to get to the top, making Yang Ha stop pushing him around this way. Argghh...I'm so annoyed when the other guy tries to interfere in budding love. Poor Junghee, I hope she doesn't go to Yang Ha, seriously, that would just push Young Dal over the edge. I want to see where they take this now, it is in such a precarious edge, and Episode 11 should be the episode that gets us all sitting at the edge of our seats. So, writer-nim, I hope you're working hard...I want to see Young Dal get stronger.

I doubt Junghee will go to Yangha just like that. She doesn't even like him to begin with and she doesn't seem to be the type of woman that can be easily moved by fear and fall under a man's power. She may seem delicate, but she is strong.

I agree with you, Jung-hee is not portrayed as the usual damsel in distress...so she won't go to Yang-ha just because of Young-dal's predicament at all. If she does, well...the writer is gonna catch flak for that, because it'll be totally out of character for her to do so. She doesn't even like him anyway, even if he's the casino owner's son!

I like how the writer is building JH to be a strong female, who can stand up for herself -- despite not being "better off" (academic-wise or social status-wise). Her standing up to snooty dealer sunbae shows how she won't take anything lying down.

She's the only female character that I think is written somewhat decently (although there can be much more improvement -- like having her more involved in this male-centric story besides simply being a dealer and the love interest of the hero)...almost everyone else is written so flat and un-intriguing.

YangHa just went crazy here O.O! And he puts YoungDal in Jail just because of a girl? Isn't he indirectly admitting he can't compete with YoungDal?. Using this kind of method only proof his defeat.
omg I can't wait to know what is going to happen then, I hope YoungDal realize he doesn't need to please Go Bok Tae anymore.
And like HeadsNo2 said I also like Boss Min, for some reason I thought she was like mother figure to YoungDal, talking about mothers I wonder where and who is Mrs. Jang?.
Btw to the people lurking here, I highly recommend you to watch Episode 9 and 10. This drama is getting better and better ^^

The past few eps have upped the interesting factor and there is forward plot progression...hurray! ;P

Young-dal's sudden progression still could have been written better...he goes from scamming to win, to suddenly being able to buck his always losing ways--to a record-setting win at Daejung casino? Say it ain't so...but eh, at least he's turning the tables on his down-and-out misfortune. For now. Also continuing to like his romance with Jung-hee...their texts back and forth, being happy for each other...too cute! :)
-
But I am loving the growing bromance between YD and Dong-soo...now if only they were to find out the truth! I was surprised at the news that Mom is alive...
-
Gold stars for Boss Min, for continuing to look out for YD. She really is being the mother that he never had, giving him wise advice about trusting Skunk Go. But no, I don't think she's the mom.
-
Gah, Yang-ha!?! And to think, I thought he was gonna be the most sane of the bunch...Dong-soo's furious fits of rage have nothing on his fits of jealousy! :/ I find his behavior illogical...I mean, he does all this to put (hyung) YD in jail, for what -- being the object of "his girl" JH's affections?? He fits the bill of those typical rich male leads where just a glance means that girl is his forever (lol), where money can supposedly buy that girl's feelings...and anyone standing in "their" way is to be stomped upon.

Nah, JH never gave YH the time of day...and yet, he "invested" himself into pursuing a supposed relationship by paying off her debts and giving her preferential treatment...all without personally knowing her. His immediate reaction to running downstairs to see JH's reaction to YD's arrest? Immaturity at its best. And as for that pic of him going ape-sh*t crazy? Exactly what I'd picture him to be, so much kudos to Im Si-wan for that.
-
Also, I didn't think that YH would be so forward in letting adopted dad and SG about DS' family and his intention to work for the people who killed Dad. And his 'deal' with SG? Another example of petty immaturity, to only have that outcome in mind. I think he'll have his azz handed to him soon enough, basing such business dealings with personal feelings in the mix.
-
I have an inkling that SG or Director Hyun 'owns' Madame Jang's casino...why else would MJ and her lackey get sprung so easily, and YD+crew get stuck behind?
-
I really could do without Jang-soo or Jerry (was he named for Jerry the mouse, from Tom & Jerry? haha)...or Lady Kim.

I love the bromance between Dong-soo and Youngdal too, but I'm not sure of how they will react when they find out the truth. DS will probably feel more guilty for not protecting his brother, but YD... he will probably feel betrayed by the brother that didn't protect him properly :(

Yeah, I definitely agree with you...I don't think it'll be a happy reaction to their reunion -- at first, though. Obviously there's gonna be angst, no doubt about it.

Young-dal is probably gonna feel betrayed and thrown away -- since in Dong-soo's flashbacks, he left them at the orphanage temporarily to come back later. DS is likely gonna be relieved to finally find his sibling, but also feel anguish for the way YD grew up on the streets.

But I do hope that their bromance continues...it seems as though they do feel a connection. Like that saying goes (in Korean anyway) -- very rough translation: you can feel your blood ties grabbing you close, even if you don't know it. Or the more well-known saying, blood is thicker than water :)

I gotta say, with Yang-ha the writer's been giving us clear hints that he has mental issues - he's already on medication and in therapy, even if his shrink is the least professional in the world lol. And we saw it with the hold 'em game last week, and we see it now, the guy does NOT take it well when he plans something and it doesn't go the way he wants. Especially when that something involves Young-dal.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Definitely agree with you...the writer is setting it up to make Yang-ha the mental case of the family. Shoot, he already is crazy...he's on the verge of becoming a two-headed monster, for all we know ;P

But yes, for sure...YH's the most messed-up one - loud and clear. Likely attributed for being a toddler when losing both parents and siblings, being adopted by a rich man who does dirty dealings with scum like Skunk Go, not getting the nurturing and love a normal kid would get.
...But that still doesn't excuse him for being an azzz ;P

He definitely does not take to having things not go as planned, and definitely losing. Especially to someone as 'inferior' as Young-dal -- whether it is in poker/gambling or Jung-hee's affections. Obviously he's delusional to think JH would like him, and yet...he's doing everything he can to wipe away his supposed competition.

Just proves that he's the inferior one...no amount of planning or manipulating can make things go the way he wants 'em. And I don't think no amount of professional help can make him normal either.

This episode is even better than episode 9. woah, Yangha is insane! I really dislike his character, he is so inmature and such a looser. I don´t like him at all, but the actor is doing a good job.
My poor Youngdal </3 Life is being too cruel with him, I just wish him happiness. And I need to say that I adore Jangsoo <3 I love their brother interaction just as much as Dalhee couple.
I can´t wait for the next episode, I only wish YD realize that GBT is a bad person and leave his side.
Triangle fighting! Definitely the best show right now, at least for me C:

" I’ve been liking Boss Min’s role in Young-dal’s life these past couple of weeks. Weirdly enough, she’s the closest thing to a mother figure he’s got"

Exactly. When this woman first entered in Youngdal's life, I thought she meant trouble, but so far she is one of the few people (aside his friends) that had shown him real kindness and concern. She isn't by any means an extremely good hearted person, but she was good to Youngdal and that alone made her a good person in my eyes.

I loved this episode. It's my favorite so far :)

Youngdal's life is turning more and more difficult because of his choices and his trust in the wrong people, but even in this kind of situation, I can't help but think how blessed he actually is. Both Youngdal and Yangha are pretty naive to believe in GBT lol.

Youngdal, knows that the only way to get out of the low life is to be on GBT good side, yet he doesn't know anything else about GBT other than what he showed. There is definitely a chance that GBT owned that private casino, and if YD can overtake that casino then it only alert GBT to this kid's ability. And that would be a threat to him. By making that deal with YangHa, GBT wanted to show YD his power, a warning to him 'never get ahead of yourself when you're just my underling'.

YangHa too only has infos that GBT allowed to be shown. If GBT can get rid of YD to get what he wants, he too can get rid of YH. YH right now is saved because of his father. But once GBT got what he wants, he will plan out to overtake the Yoon family. YangHa is more naive than YD imo, and idk if he can pick himself up if he falls.

I like the character Youngdal, he fell so often, but he picks himself back up so often that it's like an everyday meal for him. Pretty admirable. I want him to have his revenge and survive.

Heads, much love for your recap as always <3

"Yang-ha Smash!"

LOL!!! Now I cannot get mini-Hulk Yang-ha out of my mind. Don't forget there was also a great scene with Dong-soo Smash! Poor Young-dal only got to kick the dumpster because he owns no computer for smashing pleasure =(

The Yang-ha hate is getting strong everywhere I see Triangle talked about =P Not me though! Since I'm the sort of mental case that finds Loki, who's got to the galaxy's most horrible brother, and his disastrous relationship with brother Thor utterly amusing. So Yang-ha's actually kinda mild in comparison.

... we are talking about him as a drama character of course. In real life, I'd run away from this guy in no time lest I somehow look at him wrong and he tries to murder me =P

Am so happy that Young-dal really does seem to be going to jail \ ^0^ / Because if I know anything about this writer, is that he likes to use jail time as major character growth time, so I'm looking forward to a better, or worse form (but in a better way, if you know what I mean) of Young-dal post-jail.

Dong-soo's reaction to news about his mother is interesting. My guess is that she's in a situation that he hadn't imagined/thought possible- either very well-off or very miserable, and my guess is for the later...

Boss Min also surprised me by not being just another unimportant lapdog of GBT. Top Dog too, seems like he'd be part of Young-dal's "real" gang in the future. Yeah, I do foresee Young-dal go down that path- though originally I thought he was going to climb up the mafia ladder under GBT.

Never have I ever looked forward to Monday this much!

I initially dropped this after episode 5 but after Doctor Stranger turned sour on me, I just marathoned this and caught back up to episode 10...

The plot definitely has more traction now. Not only that, but what we know about the characters is becoming more and more defined. Dong Soo has this protective, mother-hen personality, but he seems to know most of the story behind his father GBT, and the pigman (lol forgot his name).

Youngdal is finally making something of himself, and while his initial goals for following GBT were not entirely clear to me, it's obvious he sees GBT as his stairway to the proverbial top (whatever that may be). Unfortunately, for one reason or another, he fooled himself into thinking that he was actually an indispensible asset to GBT. I actually agree that President Nim is such great character to introduce into YD's life. She's almost like the mother he never had ;)

Yang ha, who we all thought was the cerebral, calculating/cunning one turns out is the most insecure amd petty out of the 3 of them. He benefitted his father's blackmailer for what? a petty love squabble? Young Dal may know the least about their origins, but Yang Ha seems to be fighting the hardest against his past. Every single one of his moves (un/knowingly) is ultimately benefitting his real father's conspirators.

From here on out, it's basically up to writing staff not to botch the big reveal and showdown between the 3 brothers.

I'm still not anymore interested in any of the romantic connections than i was before; the female leads are still as stagnant as ever. No real dilemmas, just high school shit. (which makes Yang Ha's petty squabble even more hard to watch)

Thank god, this story got moving now! To go from winning it all to crashing to earth behind bars is a hard, hard fall for Young-dal, especially when he knows the way he got to the top wasn't ideal. He's always hovered on the edge even if he's internally leaning towards the side of wanting to be good, and now he fell over and he's going to pay a price in a way he's never done before. And kudos to Jaejoong (yet again) for making that journey believable and real. In his hands, Young-dal is a character who can switch from puppy-like to feral to genuinely conflicted.... he's hitting all his notes, and hitting them really well.

As for Yang-ha, we all knew it, the pills, inability to take having things not go his way and worst shrink in the world are pretty much a guaranteed cocktail for crazy. Though in a different way from the usual - he has his sights set on Jung-hee in a way that suggests absolute fixation, and doesn't seem to have the capacity to process that when it comes to her, Young-dal is not the one standing in the way, so much as his own behaviour. She was nicer to Yang-ha when he did her a favour and wasn't holding his position over her head, and he seems to not get that she's not even quite romantically interested in Young-dal yet. And this is when he doesn't even know that the two are living in the same house! Let me not even get into that cracked revenge scheme of his, though I suspect I'll have more thoughts on taht later.

Jung-hee.....I'm glad she got more screen time this week, but it's still not enough. She's the only one of the female leads I like, and that's more down to the actress than the writer. She's got her dealer tangles to deal with, and I like that she's not blind to what Young-dal and Yang-ha are like. And I like her even in scenes without either of her male leads.

Yang-ha is such a little piece of shit up till now, that I am seriously start wanting him to suffer big time, despite knowing that he is the little brother both of other 2 have loved and cared for (especially killing are all those flash backs with Young-dal carrying him on his back). Because Dong-soo is totally mother hen, Young-dal has his moments of showing having a heart, even being in the gangster wotld, but Yang-ha, having everything has not shown any good sides from himself..
And I kind do not care about any romancу (that's a first :)), only wait for at least 2 elder brothers to find each other and have a good life..

I wonder if Yang-ha knows his adoptive father is the one who has killed his natural father and caused to the separation between him and his brothers, how will he react and what decision will he make.
In addition, when father being killed and separated from his brothers,Yang-ha is a little baby, which means he don't have any affection to his natural relatives.
On the contrary, his adoptive father has brought him up,gave him everything he has now.
Will he choose to stand with Young-dal, or his adoptive father?

That's a really interesting point. Knowing what a typical audience would want though I would think Yangha uses his position to eventually bring down his adoptive father. Even though he has been brought up by him there are clear issues between them, and knowing that your biological father was killed is a pretty big shock.

It would be a great direction to go to if the brothers got revenge together, now we're just waiting on Yangha!
