Teaser and stills for SBS’s weekend melo Endless Love

SBS is readying its next weekend drama for launch, which’ll be the heroine-caught-between-brothers-of-tragedy drama Endless Love, which stars Hwang Jung-eum (Secret) as said heroine. Ryu Soo-young (Two Weeks) will play her youthful love, while his younger brother Jung Kyung-ho (Heartless City) is the one who’s loved her from afar. Cue angsting!

In the poster above, Ryu Soo-young’s character comes accompanied with the tagline, “I have a dream.” Fitting for the ambitious professional aiming high for himself. Hwang Jung-eum’s reads, “I had to dream of revenge, and had to rise out of despair,” referring to the hardships she faces after witnessing her mother’s death. Jung Kyung-ho’s is “A love that cannot be seen from this place tougher than death.” He’s the rebel and the fighter, and while the character descriptions don’t explicitly put him in the hero’s seat, I’d say that from the fact that his hyung is married (to Seo Hyo-rim) and the way these kinds of stories often go, we’re looking at a Jung-Hwang OTP.

Endless Love will start out in the 1970s and unfold over the following decades, which explains the vaguely dated, nostalgic tinge of some of the scenes in the teaser. It premieres on June 21 and follows Angel Eyes.

I'm guessing the 70s. In fact, I'm praying it's the 70s.

Yeah, I cannot recognize him, either. He was so ... different ... in Heartless City. Plus, he looks a lot heavier.

I didn't recognize him at all, even by the mention of his name! Is that the same guy from Smile, You and Heartless city?? But I have to say that I like his new look very much... (:

Will definitely check this out! Hopefully the plot stays makjang free and it turns out to be a GOOD melodrama. It's been a while since I've watched a good melo and I just happen to love both HJE and JKH

After seeing Hwang Jung Eum unni in last year's "Secret" with Ji Sung, I've become to love and adore her ^.^
And yea.... Jung Kyung Ho basically rocked my socks off in "Heartless City" ^.^ So I'll be more than ready and more than happy to cheer for this OTP :))))))
As for Ryu Soo Young, I've only ever seen him in "Save Your Last Dance for Me", with Ji Sung, (but that was 10 years ago in 2004), and in "Two Weeks" with Lee Jun Ki and Park Ha Sun (another actress that I adore ^.^), but both of those characters never really stuck onto me and left lasting impressions, so hopefully with the setup of "Endless Love" and the episode count that it has, that Ryu's character will stick this time 'round ^.^ I'm hopeful!!!!!

Ryu has an understated way of acting, more natural than theatrical (a complete opposite from the other guy I like, Kang Ji Hwan). Ryu is one of my favorite actors to watch on the screen: hunky and sunny. Delicately featured yet incredibly deep voiced :) He is a beautiful man, what can I say? I hope this drama will earn him new fans, which he deserves. I really, really like the way he acts, and hope you will too! Plus, Hwang was fantastic and hilarious in Incarnation of Money. They are my most anticipated drama pairing of this year. Watch and you'll see what I mean! :)

Oh I forgot to say Ryu was leading man in the funny and moving rom-com "Bad Couple", a very well-written and well-acted drama for those of you who aren't familiar with him yet. Highly recommended! Check it out! :)

i adore Bad Couple even though i know a lot of people didn't like it.

he was the best part of that drama for me. he played basically the prefect man. i've been a fan of him ever since.

my only problem is i can never see him as a second lead. to me he is always number one!

I love Ryu Soo Young too, especially rom-com. I adored him 18 vs. 29 and in Bad Couple. I wish he would do another romantic comedy, but I'll take whatever he acts in.

I am not a fan of any of the actors but Hwang Jung-eum definitely improved in Secret so I'm looking forward to seeing how much that sticks. I hope she has a better edge to her character than the rather meek heroine she played in Secret.

And I love the hairstyle they gave her! Too bad I can't say the same for JKH.

I may just watch this. I love Ryu zoo-young and Jung Kyung-Ho. I an't say I'm totally impressed with HJE, but hey at least she cries well.
I always love rooting for the young, rebellious tough on the outside, possibly a little puppy on the inside heroes. Almost as much as the cold scarred ice cubes that only reveal their true selves to the female lead… Oh drama land.

I was thinking of Jackie Chan & Kim Hee Sun's "Endless Love", the theme song for The Myth in which they both co-star in.

Ehehe. :D I guess if this gets aired in the Philippines the Hallyu fans here will have to change their mindset, because to us Endless Love is basically the first drama in the series, Autumn In My Heart... rerun many times and even remade only recently. XD

I always refer to Hwang Jung-eum as "Mi-joo", her character in Giant. I'm willing to give this a shot. Jung Woong In too? Must be a bad guy .

A lot of people watch Giant mainly for Mi Joo and Min Woo, though. Their stories and pairing attracted most of attention. And deservedly so, I was also captivated by them.

I hope to see Joo Sang-wook and Hwang Jung-eum pairing again someday, great chemistry.

I watched Giant live with a lot of people. Lee Kang-Mo played by the amazing Lee Beom-Soo and Jo Pil-Yeon played by Jung Bo-Suk were the big player of the show from beginning to end.
It had high ratings because it was a great show period. Solid writing, acting etc.
Probably for the viewers in South Korea it was one of the best period drama since Sandglass.

Honestly, this is the only reason why i want to watch it now. HJE is one of my fav actresses (fell in love after watching high kick through the roof) and Joo Sang Woo IS my favorite actor in kdrama land.
So you see how much I like this equation.

Yayyy, Hwang Jung Eum with an actually attractive hairstyle! She looks super pretty here. (A little bit like Han Ji Min almost? Or maybe that's just me. XD)

She's a pretty compelling actress, so I'll have to check this out. :)

Also in High Kick Through the Roof! Hwang Jung Eum was terrific there. She was stealing every attentions whenever she appeared, and when it wasn't her scenes, ppl always impatiently waiting for her scenes. I know because I was in Seoul for my study when HK2 aired in Korea. It was a huge phenomenon and Hwang become household name overnight. Incredibly funny and very likeable.

Thanks, I was looking for a drama to watch, so I'll go watch High Kick 2 :) I just read in a review that the bantering between Choi Daniel and Hwang are a real treat! Looking forward to that! And I'll recommend Incarnation of Money to you as well, for the awesome bantering between Hwang and her mom, hahaha I'm cracking up just thinking about them!!! You'll adore the scenes between mother and daughter!!!

Love the two guys but I am not really a fan of Hwang Jung Eum unfortunately. I think she has picked some good roles in the past but she never leaves a lasting impression on me. I feel as though she does a fine job but does not elevate the roles she plays beyond how the characters are written.

You know, I haven't gotten that much into her other characters, but I ADORED her in High Kick 2. I watched the whole show just for her and Daniel Choi. And I think it was mostly thanks to her as an actress that made the character so memorable so I've always had a soft spot for her.

I adore all the actors in this. Hilariously, it took me a moment to recognize all three of them. But that's okay. Jung Kyung Ho is probably one actor I will love no matter what hair he pulls haha. And I'm actually really liking the long, straight hair on Hwang Jung Eum, it's a nice change. I'm tentatively looking forward to this :)

I'm highly anticipating Endless Love but I'm afraid JKHs character will ALWAYS be on the sidelines when it comes to HJEs feelings. On the other hand though, I have a feeling he'll be the type of character whose rough on the edges but is like a soft, cuddly puppy when it comes to her and ONLY her. Then through his actions (this could take years) it will show through and HJE's character will fall for him, truly and not because she couldn't have his brother back because he's obviously going to the dark side if he has a lot of ambition :P It's drama. There's no denying that!

I was going to wait it out and see where the writer was going with the love triangle but after reading your post I think I might watch it week by week and go through another "Feast of the Gods" or "Spring Days". Two dramas where I fell head over heels in love with the "second leads" only for the spotlight to shine on them midway through the drama. THEIR LOVE PREVAILS!

Looking forward to this...especially because of the cast (Jung Kyung-ho!! :) Hwang Jung-eum! Cha In-pyo!). I do wonder if SBS will be able to stick with its no makjang policy with a melo set in the older era.

I almost did not recognize Hwang Jung-eum in some of the pics...maybe because I'm used to seeing her with short hair? Some pics she looks like Han Ji-min a bit (the one where she's crying and the boxing stance).

As for Jung Kyung-ho...he looks thinner than I remembered him :( Noticed his hair in recent pics for the Law of the City reality show and groaned...why put a curly mop top on top of his handsome face?! :/

I thought it'd be a remake of the Endless Love 1981 movie.
I love all the actors but meh, not really keen on a 40 episode melodrama.
My melodrama limit is 20 episodes, more than that and I'll probably want to kill all of the characters from frustration.

I really really want to like hwang jung eum. I couldn't finish watching she was pretty because of what I felt to be overacting. I liked the concept. I loved park seo joon and choi si won. I was prepared to love it because so many people said she was great and then I tuned in to about half way and couldn't do it anymore. I like jung Kyung ho and yup, heartless city was my unraveling but I may pass.
