Odds and Ends: Zombie apocalypse
by javabeans
javabeans: Shall we pick more questions from the beanut gallery to start with?
girlfriday: Sure. Let’s see… lots of people asked about the World Cup, though I already stopped watching because Korea lost.
javabeans: You mean your cute player on the Korean team lost.
girlfriday: Yes, poor Son Heung-min! And he even cried! It was so cute.
javabeans: Aw man, he looks like Chilbongie.
girlfriday: Now you see why I’ve been watching soccer for the last few weeks.
javabeans: Someone asked why there was such a persistent potato man bouncing around in the corner of frame for Joseon Gunman, which is hilarious because it’s a soccer ball. A soccer ball kicking a smaller soccer ball.
girlfriday: LOL. Yeah, basically, when the World Cup is going on, all things on TV are made to be tangentially related to soccer, even if it’s set in Joseon. That’s partly why I even get sucked into watching in the first place, because ALL of my variety shows turn into soccer specials and cheerleading projects and whatnot.
javabeans: Which just makes things sad now. It’s like the definition of a wamp-wamp moment.
girlfriday: Yup, pretty much. Of course now, all those shows are scrambling to figure out what to do, because they’ve flown their casts and recruited stars like Sohn Ye-jin and Jung Il-woo to go to Brazil, and you’re not going to score ratings on watching people root for a game we know you lost.
javabeans: Right, you want variety programming to pick you up, not kick you when you’re crying.
girlfriday: Or worse, when the adorable maknae puppy of the soccer team is crying. Let’s move onto a happier question, shall we?
javabeans: Like apocalypses you mean?
girlfriday: Well it would be less depressing than this.
javabeans: To keep it interesting, we can make it a zombie apocalypse. A reader asked which drama characters we’d want to have in our group in such an event.
girlfriday: First of all, we need a brain. Not for eating, but a mastermind to plan our defense strategies. I nominate Kim Sang-joong from A New Leaf. He could also be his Bad Daddy self from City Hunter, I suppose. Pretty much just the smart, ruthless guy you wouldn’t want on the opposing team.
javabeans: You need fighters on the front line, so I nominate all of the slave hunters in Chuno and maybe also Ha Ji-won. She’d be their leader.
girlfriday: We need a medic, and pretty much any doctor will do, so we might as well pick a pretty one.
javabeans: Maybe not Dr. Jin though. He might ruin the universe.
girlfriday: And not Good Doctor, sorry.
javabeans: I was just about to nominate Doctor Champ until I realized McAbs wasn’t the doctor.
girlfriday: Then I nominate Doctor Stranger, because he’s a geeeeenius and he knows how to MacGyver people parts.
javabeans: I think we also need a frail, weepy type in the mix. Dramaland sure has an abundance of those.
girlfriday: Huh, why?
javabeans: Haven’t you ever heard the adage? To survive a cheetah, you don’t need to run faster than a cheetah, you just need to run faster than one other person.
girlfriday: HAHAHAHAHAHA. You know, once the laughter wears off, it’s chillingly smart.
javabeans: I nominate Jin Se-yeon for that.
girlfriday: Why, because she’ll just come back to life in a new identical body?
javabeans: See, that way you can sacrifice her to the zombies without feeling so guilty about it. Also, she dies in everything so you just figure that’s her fate.
girlfriday: If we’re going the cheating-death route, then we might as well recruit Vampire Prosecutor and Arang.
javabeans: Yes, let THEM die, because it won’t hurt. I’ll be over here, helping to “direct” things.
girlfriday: And if we plan to win the war, we also need stealth fighters to sneak-attack, like all of the Iljimaes. And maybe someone who can turn anything into a weapon, like City Hunter. He fights with spoons!
javabeans: No, he’s too pretty to die! You know how his leg hurts him!
girlfriday: No, no, you’re thinking about this all wrong! He COULD be the last survivor… with you!
javabeans: OH. I rescind my complaint.
girlfriday: You’re welcome.

Doctor Stranger could also morph into Go Namsoon and knock out half the zombies, just sayin'...
(*cough* Can we recruit Kim Woobin as Park Heungsoo to knock out the other half? Plus, there'll be plenty of bromance ;) )

Brave effort from South Korea in the World Cup. They played terribly against Algeria (that was really painful to watch), but they really pulled themselves together against Belgium and played a really good game. Too bad really!
Had to google Son Heung-min after reading this post. He's adorable!

Ha! Too little, too late.
You forgot to mention how they failed to beat Russia, when Russia was one team in their group that team Korea could/should have defeated. Things went from bad to worse after that.
In the meantime, the team USA is moving up. Who would have thunk it? Well, if a team plays to win, rather than plays not to lose face (like team Korea does), it could happen to you, too.
I doubt that team Korea will make it to the World Cup 2018.

No zombie apocalypse without Cha Seung Won, as himself, but on high heels.
you also need a singer to comfort you with soft guitar playing, Like Ji Hyuk. later he can smash the guitar on their heads. well, I´d die quietly listening to him play and sing.

It's heartbreaking to see eliminated teams pulling it together for one last good show to preserve their honour, whether it's Spain *sobbing* or South Korea (I'm so sorry, JB/GF!). Gallant in defeat, that's what they are.
Zombie apocalypse.....I definitely say get the death-cheaters of Arang. I mean, dead heroine has nothing to fear anyway, and our Satto would be pretty badass against a horde of zombies.

Not so much a joke as a comment on cultural differences. "Soccer" is a minor sport in North America, "football" is a major/national sport in the UK (they even do things like <a href="http://aluaofotherwhere.tumblr.com/post/90180436464/last-week-london-underground"this, on the London underground!!!).
I'm guessing that JB/GF aren't really fans of "soccer" and were watching the World Cup for a little while (until their team was out), while here, if you watch football, you'll watch till the end (the British team is out already as well).

@ alua,
Thank you for explaining. So on that link you included in your post, were they mentioning an upcoming game? (Sorry, I was a little confused by what it said).
I can understand "football" being a major/national sport in the UK, because it is a major/national sport in my country as well. I think it is also a major/national sport in many European countries, it certainly is in France (I lived there for many years).
About this, "while here, if you watch football, you’ll watch till the end (the British team is out already as well)," that I can understand, because it is the same in my country. Even when we are out (our national team), people continue to watch till the end, and they just choose another team to root for until the very last game. If their chosen team loses at some point, they support another team that is still in the running, and they keep on doing that until the end (of all the games).

Yes, they were listing the WC games for that day (Italy vs Costa Rica) on the platform signs that are supposed to indicate the underground (subway) train arriving next.
I don't remember them doing anything like that for the Olympics (but don't quote me on it, as I'm a cyclist and don't use the underground much)! Nor are they doing it for Wimbledon (tennis), which is currently on as well.
Yes, football is a major sport in many European countries (and elsewhere worldwide), but infamously ignored in North America.
I confess I'm not actually watching though...

June 28, 2014 at 5:07 PM
@ alua,
WOW! They really get into the WC games, if they go as far as listing them on the subway platform, that's the spirit, I guess :-)
Interesting though that they do it for the WC, but not for Wimbledon, for example.
About this, "Yes, football is a major sport in many European countries (and elsewhere worldwide), but infamously ignored in North America." Very true... I am not watching the WC this year either. I watched 4 years ago (some of the games only) and in the previous years. I think that this year, my curiosity was not as strongly piqued.

Ah, the Japanese and their great fondness of taking any and every English word and katakana-ing it.
Sometimes my Japanese teacher utters one of those Japanified English words and it takes the whole class like 5 minutes to figure out what the hell the original word was. プラットフォーム (Purattofōmu) was totally incomprehensible.

the finnish call it futis from football.
but jalka in finnish would be "foot"

Zombie Apocalypse - I'd add Cha Yeon Jin. Also, Anthony Kim because: what would he do?
Yeah, I haven't watched today's Infinity Challenge Cheerleading episode yet and the thought of rewatching the game through their eyes kinda hurts my heart because the Cheerleading team were so optimistic/enthusiastic. Do I want to see a deflated Jung Il Woo or Sohn Ye Jin? Gah, maybe I'll watch the match portion of the episode behind my hands.

Boong-Do-Queen Inhyun's Man
Choi Young-Faith
Mo Il Hwa-AoF
Yoon Sung-City Hunter
(I'd pick Bad Daddy too except he'd use us all as cannon fodder.)
Dr. Cha-Good Doctor
Lady Choi-Faith
Bu-ki-The Woman That Still Wants to Marry
Noh Eun-seol-Protect the Boss
Kim Nana- Monstar

How about Miho from MGIAG? She still has one tail left... that means she can't die. And speaking of Gumihos, there's always Choi Kang Chi... he's still living I believe, since he still hasn't found the Gu Family book to make him human. And while we are at it, we can also resurrect his Daddy Ho.

I picked characters that I felt could do difficult things, but yet cared about other people and would be team oriented. The only iffy one on that team oriented wise is Mo Il Hwa, but he's pragmatic so he would choose to band together with the team. Hmm, crap, now not sure Dr. Cha could be a shooter. She's off the team now, lol. Recruiting medical skills team member now haha.
If I were going to pick team members based on the supernatural thing...
Miho is too flaky, and not sure she'd not drag a zombie into camp cuz want to chew on the zombie bones. I did not watch that Puppy Gumiho drama so I do not 'know' the characters. Just based on the 2 episodes I watched, just no.
Putting Do Min Joon on the team is like adding a Cullen. Centuries on earth and superpowers, and what did ya do?
Vampire Prosecutor would be a problem with the blood thing.
Arang and Satto? Maybe 2nd string. Not sure why I do not want them on my team, but I don't.

My pick for Zombie apocalypse:
Arang and Satto - Arang and The Magistrate (they won't die and can fight too)
Do Min Joon-You From Another Star (because you need alien to beat zombies)
Yeom Byung Soo-Empress Ki (he will survive till the end)
Basically all Lee Jun Ki's characters (Jang Tae San, Park Yoon Kang, Iljimae)
Joo Joong Won-Master's Sun (zombie will also poof right?!)

I agree on all that was said. Though my fave in the Korea team was Koo Jacheol (coz he was so cute in RM).
That bit about Jin Seyeon? I agree 1M times! I've put off watching DS because I heard that Kang Sora's character was assassinated and that Seung-hee is still not dead. I really don't care if genius doctor loved her first in NK. She's a liar and her spy shenanigans is not worth forgiving. I want her dead. Period.
Anyway, still will be watching the knockout stage even if Kor and Jap lost. I enjoyed the game with France vs Switzerland so I'd probably root for them the most now.

Do Min Joon.
He is fast, strong, calm, smart, and if everything else fails- he can stop time AND teleport.
What else can you ask for?!
Yes, he is also good looking and rich and willing to sacrifice himself for the woman he loves.
Besides, there's always a chance that the zombies will be distracted by his coolness and hotness, and try to get him to sign a contract, instead of fighting.

I can't believe I forgot Muhyul (Song Il Kook, Kingdom of the Wind)!!!
It's not the same as Do Min Joon, but as far as humans go, he is pretty good. He really know martial arts, can move an army, loyal, reliable, smart, and survived death few times (maybe his luck will be of use).
I'll add Iljimae (kyaaaa! LJK!), Choi Jin Hyuk as Gumiho and a genius doctor, and Song Ji Hyo as a doctor and someone who has good chemistry with SIK and CJH (I suspect we'll need good teamwork), and Ha Ji Won (the Cool factor will at least double, and no one can fight anything without the Cool factor, right?), aaaaaand I think we'll be good to go.
