Name That Drama: Twin sacrifice and contract marriage
by javabeans
Can you name these dramas? As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.
- sapphirepink’s drama was fairly recent, so there should be a fair chance somebody recognizes the plot:
I was wondering about this drama’s title, I hope you can help me. I watched this drama around 2009-2012, it was on KBS World. The main guy looks like Bae Soo-bin, but no it wasn’t him. From what I remember, it’s a family drama. The main girl got married to the main guy. But the main girl’s family disapproved of the marriage, unless they can buy a new house. The main guy’s family is poor I think. They have to sell their grandma’s house to a company, but the company didn’t include the grandma’s house when the couple almost signed for the new house deed, and that’s all I remember. I hope you can help me.
- Bronte’s drama sounds rather brutal to be a broadcaster selection, but perhaps the answer lies in cable? I’m drawing a blank:
I was hoping you guys could help me identify this drama. It was a police procedural? And a fairly recent-ish drama. Like in the last 5 years or so.
I only watched one episode but it was quite bloody. The girl that was killed had her fingers severed. And there was a lot of green duct tape. They thought it was linked to an older homicide case but it turned out to be suicide. Dead girl had a twin sister, but they were orphaned and adopted into different families. Something about a talent show… The dead twin was adopted into a rich family, and the other twin wasn’t. Dead twin pretended to be poor twin and killed herself so that poor twin could live as dead twin. And I think dead twin had some terminal disease. So it was all sisterly love.
And that’s about all I remember. Thanks much in advance!
- I can’t actually picture the layout that Anne describes, but I think I have a clue about this one:
There is a K-drama I want to re-watch but I can’t remember the name. A couple are forced together by their families so they fake a relationship before they eventually fall in love. The family gets them a one bedroom apartment. The woman sleeps in the bedroom but the man sleeps in the living room unless the family catches them. I remember a couple of cooking scenes in the kitchen, and I remember the girl comes home drunk and vomits so the guy has to clean her up. Very cliche plot, but I can picture the apartment in my head. Entry door upper right, kitchen upper left, bathroom between entry and kitchen, living room on the left, bedroom on the right. Thanks for your help!
- All roads lead to Bae Yong-joon? Help Asis out:
I was wondering if you or the other Beanies know this drama I’ve been searching for. I watched it on local TV here in Indonesia in the early or mid-2000s. I don’t know who’s in it because I was familiar with practically only Bae Yong-joon back then. I thought the male lead looked like Bae Yong-joon but I’ve checked his dramas and it seems I was wrong.
It’s about a man who used to live in a monastery, then moves to the city and works as a teacher. At the school he meets a female art teacher or so — I remember that she paints. They are attracted to each other although he’s awkward around her at first due to his limited experience with women. The man is actually a son of a rich family but he runs away and refuses to go back. The family/father asks the woman to help so that the man can go back home. The woman is in debt. I forget if the father really gives her money in exchange for the favor, but I remember the man gets angry thinking that the woman is helping his father because she wants the money. The woman doesn’t/cannot explain her real reason. I think it’s how the drama ends. It’s not a long drama. Do you know the title? Please help. Thanks so much.
- Last but not least, let Susanna know if you recognize any of these details:
I remember my parents watching this a looong time ago. I think it’s a movie, not a drama, but I’m not sure. It’s about a guy trying to find his little sister and he’s homeless and always wore a little girl’s backpack (his sister’s). He finds a dog who follows him. It’s a Korean dog, called jindo, and it was white. Anyway the dog protects the guy from stuff. I remember this one scene where the guy meets a girl on a bus and she’s poor so he gives her some money and she’s like OMG thank you!! But he wouldn’t let go of the money. In the end he eventually lets go and gives the girl the money.

DO IT. I loved everything about both seasons. The teamwork of the main cast was amazing and I also fell in love with both OSTs. Now if only OCN would give us a 3rd season.

I also highly recommend Ten. That first episode may sound gruesome, but the story behind it ended up being heartbreakingly beautiful. It kept me guessing until the end too.

No, I think it is Sweet 18. In My Little Bride they get married because their families had arranged their marriage. I don't remember the house setup, but I think she does get drunk.

completely agree with you.. those are the ones I thought about with the clues given!
at number 5, I dont think its the same movie but the searching for sister and has a dog present kinda made me miss Hearty Paws... Yoo SeungHo and Kim HyangGi was just soo cute together~!

@Neyrie, i thought of Hearty Paws too. Both child actors are wonderful! Think Susanna gave quite a bit of details overall, just the part on searching for sister...
** I'll try to avoid any spoilering **
The older brother Chan stole the cute white puppy Hearty and gave to his lil' sis So-yi on her birthday. Chan carrried his sis pink backpack everywhere while searching for their mom. He ran into two child beggars pretending to be siblings making up sob stories on the bus and he thought of So-yi and gave the girl his money. Chan kept the backpack in a locker and later joined the group of child beggers. Hearty found Chan and followed him around at a distance and protected him from the bad guy aka the gang leader. Very touching movie TT.TT

I don't think #3 is Sweet 18. In their apartment they have 2 rooms and the kitchen is on the right. He sleeps in the "office" while she sleeps in the bedroom. No one sleeps in the living room. But the story line is very similar.

Yeah, the living arrangement is clearly NOT Sweet 18.
And weren't they living with the family (ie. not an apartment) in My Little Bride?
I love contract marriage plots, but this one didn't bring anything to mind.

2. Bonte's drama sounds awfully like a big part of Master's Sun. Where Hwang Sun-Hee played the bad twin sister that was responsible for the death of her twin sister and came back with a completely different face...
But no it can't be that drama. I thought I finally recognised a drama...! :/

Just throwing out a guess - #3 made me think of 18 vs 29. They were married but she wants a divorce until she gets in an accident and loses her memory. The layout of the room seems about right? But it's just a guess. Probably not right bc I feel like they would've remembered the memory part.

I like that drama. the highschool kid that feel for the amnesia girl was just so CUTE.... and lee sangwoo played such a cute charming character...
But I think it is a different one cause they were not forced into marriage since they really did love each other, its just that once married there were things that got misunderstood and that ended up with the couple not getting along...

#1: sapphirepink, I think this may be I Am Happy. It aired in 2008, bit may have been on KBS world in 2009. The plot is as follows: rich girl (played by Kim Hyo-Jin) pretends to be a regular employee in her father's company and is in a relationship with main guy (played by Lee Hun). He finds out, thr family finds out, they break up, get back together, get married. The family does not approve and the lead will not take money from her family so they have trouble setting up a household. Sale of grandma's house, etc happens I think, but I fastforwarded through all but the first 10 eps of the show, so I can't be 100% certain.

I love that show with my most fave part as the youngest daughter storyline, where she is the rich baby heiress who falls for the poor orphan boxer... their story was just AWESOME. this is when I became a fan of Ha suk Jin....
But I remember that the house is really not the grandmas, it their dad's hard earned house from selling some grocery in the market place.

Is No. 1 perhaps My One and Only (also called Just You)? In Korean, it's 당신뿐이야. I only caught a couple of episodes throughout its run so I can't be sure, but the description made me think of this drama. And I didn't see other daily drams for KBS1 or KBS2 that might fit this description. There's a wikipedia page listing daily dramas for KBS1 that sapphirepink might want to check out.

I thought of 'Creating Destiny' too, but from what I recall, they didn't get a place together until they were (almost) married and the family originally tried to force them together, which lead to the fake relationship and the contract, but then they fell in love and some secret came out which made his family *opposed* to the marriage, so it was then them fighting the family to get married.

For My Little Bride the layout is entrance upper *left* Kitchen to the right of that, and then bathroom. They sleep in separate rooms.
The same thing with Sweet 18. She sleeps in a separate room. Oddly enough there is a sex scene in it (not typical for K-dramas on that channel)
The layout of 18 v. 29, its still entrance to the upper left. The family does come over occasionally, but they don't try to fake sleeping together for their families.
My best guess then is Delightful Girl Chun Hyang, where the family *does* constantly do things for them, throw them together to have a "hot night", etc. The family often comes over, interferes and so on.
Those are the three main plots where the family forces them together, because I believe that if you were thinking Goong, you'd notice the hanbok, the historical setting and it's really difficult to forget and there was no kitchen in that apartment.

Can someone help me find this drama?
"It is a drama about a pop singer. There is a rich guy that likes her and she likes him too, the singer's agent also likes her, but he is the bad guy in this drama. The pop singer gets into an accident and has her face and body burned and has to go somewhere to recuperate. The agent stays in Korea and finds a look alike of the pop star, who is poor and makes her impersonate the pop star. The Rich guy falls in love with the impersonator pop star, but then the original pop singer comes back after plastic surgery, with her face totally changed from before and is always wearing gloves. She still loves the rich guy and wants him back, but he thinks she is squirming her way to him. She also wants her career back, but the agent won't let her. The truth comes out, and the rich guy wants to be with the original pop singer, but she lets him go since they couldn't fix her arms, she still has horrible burn marks hence the glove."
