Name That Drama: Toothbrushes and hotties in black
by javabeans
As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.
- Roxanna’s drama is pretty old, but maybe you caught it on AZN too (RIP) back when it aired:
This is a long shot but I thought I would try. I have been trying to find the name for this drama for a long time. I am fairly certain it is a K-Drama and would have come out between 2001-2004. I actually watched it on a cable channel called AZNTV.
I can’t tell you the plot, but what I do remember is that a poor woman with a baby ends up living at this rich guy’s house (or apartment). The rich guy has longish, 2000’s era hair and is single. Anyway, there was a very distinct scene where the woman and child have to stop living at the guys house, and she is in the bathroom getting ready to take her pink toothbrush from a cup that also holds his blue toothbrush. She starts remembering how happy it made her to see their two toothbrushes in the same place. Eventually they end up together, though I feel like there was a rich girl that the male lead was supposed to marry at some point.
Sorry, not a whole lot to go on, but I thought I would ask.
- Nikira has a two-part question:
I have two dramas that I need help with and I only remember tiny details of them. The first one is a drama but I only remember a guy and a girl going on a business trip together. I don’t remember why, but one of them ends up climbing over a blue balcony and goes to the other one’s room. I think they end up drinking whiskey.
The second one is easier, a guy loses his memory after I think a car accident and remembers nothing but has a green ribbon with connections to his past love life that his mother won’t tell him. Oh yeah, he’s rich.
- Helen asks:
So around five years ago, there was this drama where there were two girls: one girl with a missing tooth and another girl, who get separated. At one point, they steal food at a field, and get caught by a soldier/police, and the soldier lets them go. (I think one of them gets shot, but I might be wrong.) Years later, one girl is with a blind mom. It’s been itching at me ever since. If anyone recognizes this drama, thank you sososososo much.
- Eli’s question is a hoot if you know the show in question, just because it’s so different from the way I would describe it, but that makes it more amusing:
This one didn’t have subs when I watched it (on local TV) but I remember these three really hot guys who dressed in black a lot. One of them was totally laconic, the second was totally deadpan and the third was totally dorky and had a thing for what I think was a girl who wore a giant rabbit head (but the girl never takes off the head in front of him).
They lived in some kind of dorm with their friend/hyung, and there were also four girls in the same house. One of them wore a hood and sunglasses to cover her face and only communicated via text typed on her phone, and the boy’s friend liked one of the other girls. Also I think there were hints that the silent girl was really dork boy’s rabbit-head girl, and she’s friends with him too.
I have no idea whether anyone has seen this because it looks super cheap and cheesy like a soap, but if any of the details ring a bell I’ll be really thankful to anyone who can ID this.

Laughing with you over the hotties in black! That's Vampire Idol - the whole thing wasn't subbed, but you can find episodes for streaming and download pretty much anywhere that's 'off market' meaning - NOT Viki or DF.
The green ribbon thing is killing me. I know I saw at least part of that. UGH.

You can't - they haven't been subbed yet, as far as I know.
But it's worth watching unsubbed, which is what I did - very easy if you've picked up even rudimentary Korean phrases from drama-watching, and also this drama is so slapstick you won't even need dialogue a lot of the time.

#4 Vampire Idol for sure. Kim Woo Bin and Lee Yu Bi
No. 2 looks like Wonderful Life. But not sure. In ep 1 the male lead (Kim Jae Won) character goes to abroad and meet the female lead (Eugene). Then he's climbing as spiderman to one's room balcony.

Where'd my comment go? I didn't link anything...
Yes, it's Vampire Idol. You won't find it on DF or Viki and it's never been fully subbed, but you can find it easily enough.
The green ribbon thing is killing me. I know I know that drama.

Part 2: Could be a Chinese drama, 'Summer's Desire', with Peter Ho, Barbie Hsu and Huang Xiao Ming.

I agree its summers desire. Think he gives her the ribbon originaly, then something happens so they get seperated and she leaves him with the ribbon. Years later thats the only clue he has left of her.

Summers desire is one of the best taiwanese dramas there is, its so amazing. the ribbon was made by him for barbie and he made it because he had a memory of his mother wearing one when he was like 2 or something.

Eli: The show you're referring to is Vampire Idol, which is a sitcom that aired on MBN from 2011-2012. By sheer coincidence, my first time watching an episode was last night - Episode 13 is titled "Do you know the girl behind the rabbit's mask?" and features Kim Woo Bin (one of the hot guys dressed in black) asking the rabbit out on a date.
The show is weird, to say the least. And cheap and cheesy, like you say. But Kim Woo Bin! That is all.

I'm thinking that #3 could be Fashion 70s. There were two little girls who stole food from an army base and were chased across a field in the dark. One of them was shot. I don't remember a blind mother, though. Even with terrible subtitles, that was a great show with great music that I still listen to!

Your first drama sounds like a Taiwanese drama called Miss Rose. That scene is definitely in that drama.

It's oh my lady
That scene is when she is cleaning the bathroom
If you watch it again you'll see that scene happens just before she leaves the apartment with the baby girl

Yes, I bet it is Country Princess! I watched it on AZN as well. The guy with the long hair is Shin Sung Woo, currently known as Mama Shin on Roomates. Kang Dong Won was in it too.

#1 sounds a bit like 9 End 2 Outs, but I'm not sure if the details from the toothbrush scene match up. There wasn't really a rich/poor dynamic on that show either although the guy did have kind of fluffy hair...

Miss Rose was the no #2 answer? Can't be right?
And 9 Ins and 2 Outs? There is no baby there. The answers are confusing me. I've watched the drama like 10 times. It was a towel not a toothbrush right? By the way I might go back and watch that scene. Where she barfs after smelling him using the shampoo his girlfriend gave him.
No # 4 was a hoot though.

why do people still keep repeating the same after a show has already been answered. it is very annoying
kind of like reading a dementia forum if everyone repeats what others already said. answer the ones that have not yet been named
sorry for saying that though but I must.
toothbrush... I know a couple of shows where there is a toothbrush in the game but there is no child. and they are not as old ( the dramas not characters) if I think of all the shows where a woman looks at a toothbrush it the list wiill be long...

Posters aren't doing repetitive posting to be annoying. Generally, what happens is that many of us are reading and answering at the same time with all the comments being posted immediately.

This isn't an exam, anyone can chime in if they know the answer - part of the fun of Name That Drama is being able to, well, name that drama and share your own memory of it. There's nothing in the dramabeans commenting policy that says anything against that.
And personally, I'd rather take a million comments about the dramas being asked about, than the nth defence of someone's poor acting on a recap. It's a nice relief.

Also, as with this time, there is disagreement over the answers. So then it becomes like a vote: okay, x people think it's Country Princess but y people don't. The drama searchers get more ideas to help them find the answer. But I do get what you're saying about Vampire Idol :)

Redfox, maybe it is something about human nature that people need to chime in with the answer, even if they are not first. This happens all the time in the classroom. How many times have you answered a question or made a comment in a class or meeting, only to have someone else say the same thing?
