Marriage Not Dating’s reluctant groom and eager bride

This show has some really pretty promo material. The posters are out for tvN’s new Friday-Saturday romantic comedy Marriage Not Dating, featuring a happy bachelorette party, a doom-and-gloom bachelor party, and a wedding photo shoot where the bride kidnaps two men to haul to the altar. It cracks me up that there’s rope involved, especially since Yeon Woo-jin is really selling his character’s reluctance to get hitched.

Han Groo stars as a woman who wants nothing more than to be married, and Yeon Woo-jin is a man who wants nothing more than to avoid marriage. He’s naturally being pressured by his parents, and in the teaser below, he hires a girl to bring home to make Dad flip his lid and Mom clutch her pearls. That’s essentially what’ll happen between our leads — he decides that Han Groo is perfect for getting another rejection from his parents, and they enter into a contract relationship so that he can bide his time in singledom.

Jung Jin-woon (Dream High 2) plays the second lead, a bad boy who “isn’t marriage-appropriate,” who goes from woman to woman and enjoys being taken care of. Han Sun-hwa (God’s Gift-14 Days) plays a woman who “doesn’t need to marry.” She’s a classmate of Yeon Woo-jin’s and also a plastic surgeon like him, and is described as loving herself more than anything, and bold and honest about her ambition. Yoon So-hee (Let’s Eat) plays Han Groo’s coworker, described as a realist with wily charm. And Heo Jung-min (All About My Romance) plays the last friend in the group, who doesn’t have a character description yet.

It’ll be nice if the drama lives up to the fun, vibrant image it casts in the teasers and stills. There’s a hell of a lot of competition this summer for rom-coms, and I wonder if that means shows that might get a decent audience in other seasons full of thrillers will get buried. Though really, what’s to stop anyone from watching rom-coms every day of the week from now till Labor Day? Challenge accepted.

Marriage Not Dating airs on Fridays and Saturdays beginning July 4.

Only after scrolling through comments i realized that she was in Can We Get Married. Unbelievable. So i agree, Han Groo is a chameleon indeed. I wasn't able to recognize her in these teasers at all. This sparked my interest and maybe i should actually watch at least one ep when it airs.

Yoon So-hee is a future star. She really has potential. Her portrayal of 2 completely different kind of characters in Let's Eat and Wild Chives: 12 Years Reunion aka Jang Gook Becomes Dallae, is really impressive. She and the younger version of the male lead, were so good in Wild Chives, after the childhood portion the ratings dropped precipitously and the show was essentially cancelled.

Wow it was cancelled? I know my interest dropped once they did the adult portion. Yoon So-Hee is one of my crushes. Love you sweetie!

She's great!! Such a presence, my eyes can't help but gravitate towards her whenever she's on the screen. Honestly, can't wait for what the future holds for her.

I learned about Wild Chives last night, can't believe they just chopped it in half like that. What about all those people working on the drama? The actors, the staff etc. I doubt they were given enough notice ahead of time :/

Personally, I'm disappointed that I spent 22 episodes watching the drama, only to get slapped in the face. It was so slow at times, I have no idea how I made it through. Now, how the hell are they going to wrap up the entire story in two episodes?

The pictures look like so much fun ^_^

And I absolutely adore his this-can't-be-really-happening-to-me-PLEASE-get-me-out-of-here face. Precious! XD

That's the worst second lead description ever. They might as well write them off as people who'll get kicked to the curb all the time. I just hope they don't turn out to be a couple of eye sores. Yunno the kind that we want off screen as soon as they enter it.

Nooo, just look at him! He's got "noona-killer" written all over him. Reminds me of the second lead (baseball player) from 9End 2Outs. So adorable, just eclipsed the first lead. If this kid call the lead actress "noona" just once with those sleepy puppy eyes, I'll fall off my chair. :)

I really like these posters, usually drama posters are over edited or just looks weird, but these look so good and fresh in a way :)

Love the way she's laughing maniacally in slow mo in front of her future (?) mother in law! And I like the glittery heels with bows at the toe part that she's wearing in one of the posters.. looks like a fun drama to watch!

Aw, I'm already liking both trios by just looking at these posters. They looks so fun together. Also, that contrast between bachelor/bachelorette party. Hah! Summer is looking good so far.

Yessss Han Groo finally getting to be lead in a full length series!

I really wish she and some of the other post-1988 generation of actresses would get their shots at leads on the networks too, the lie being bandied about these days that 'there aren't any good actresses in their 20s and that is why we use idols' is really tired and really obviously a lie. The talent exists, it's just not being given chances.

tvN always has such gorgeous looking promotional materials. Always. I'll just wait for reviews before I start watching.

Personally, it's my favorite kinda cliche and they're not even trying to make it sound unique and special which makes it even more exciting. I'm really going it lives up to its promos because the last 3 dramas in this time slot had me super excited then super deflated by the end of it's run.

Personally I love contract marriages, I've seen both male leads in a drama each, I haven't seen the female lead anywhere, but I'll watch it anyway.
Here's my problem though, in contract marriages I feel second leads already have no chance, so for them to have a foot in the love triangle both the actor and their charachter have th be compelling, I love chicken beak and I've watched the train wreck that is Dream High 2 for him ( though not initially), n0but he still is an idol , AND his last role was a high school student, while Yeon Woo-jin's only role I've seen was Arang, which us a seaguk, plus he plays there against Lee Jun-ki,which makes them on kinda differnt levels.
What I'm saying is, seeing them together is as wierd as seeing Lee Min-ho playing a high schooler, then a recognized architech, then a 28 yo with a PhD, then back to being a high schooler again.
Still love Jung Jin-woon though.

Although I'm not familiar with either lead, I'm tentatively looking forward to this. I need a replacement for Witch's Romance now. The teasers are funny at least and I like how bright and sunny the posters are. The bachelor party poster is hysterical.

Very happy to see Yoon SoHee again and in a role that sounds like it will be the opposite of her character in Let's Eat.

Crossing my fingers. You just have to be fun, show. That's all.

So far, I'm liking less Han Groo's performance. Yeon Woo-jin is rocking his character though! The teasers are entertaining. Hope the drama is too.

Oooh, I wasn't 100% sold on the premise before but these teasers promise a fun, fluffy ride. Also yay for Jinwoon taking another crack at acting! Hopefully this drama will work out better for him than Dream High 2 (which really, isn't asking a lot; but hey in Dramaland, you never know).

This sounds totally fluffy and mindless. And after a season of really bad med dramas, multiple psycho serial killers, murderous chaebol daddies, evil lawyers, cops, government officials, and doctors... Well I am ready for it.

At least this is a tvN romcom, so there's a chance that it will end up having both rom and com, unlike KBS' efforts of late, which ended up with neither.

I just have to say it : Yeon Woo-jin is HOT.
I have never watched him in a drama but damn it, I just can't help but stare at his gorgeous face ... I am so shallow right now.

Seriously, there is so much chemistry between the couple that I just can't wait for the drama to come. tvN, why are you so good :D
