New drama Iron Man to follow Joseon Gunman on KBS this fall
by awcoconuts
We’re getting early reports on a new KBS show, working title Iron Man, which will air in September after Joseon Gunman ends. On the one hand, yay, fall previews! On the other, where does the time go? The series will be written by Kim Gyu-wan of Cinderella’s Sister.
We know very little about the upcoming Wednesday – Thursday drama; only that it will revolve around a man with a heart full of such pain (I’m assuming that’s literal and referring to the blood-pumping organ) that a sword sprouts from his body (um, and I’m assuming that’s figurative because I don’t know what that means). Considering the show will include elements of fantasy, maybe the knife (knives?) growing from his body is not a metaphor (in which case a working title of Wolverine would have been more apropos?). I referenced dozens of articles which all say the same thing, so I’m guessing the journalists don’t quite know, either, and are just repeating the limited information given to them by the production company.
There’s also a nosy female lead who considers the male protagonist a “real person” (more clues that the working-titled show will actually become a small-screen superhero drama, maybe in the vein of Smallville?) and takes it upon herself to oversee his growth and personal development. Sounds like a Pepper Potts-type, but eyeroll at the “nosy” description — she could have just as easily been labeled capable. Of course, she doesn’t get involved without reason; there is a love story brewing between the two.
Writer Kim (also of Birth Secret, Piano), is known for his sensitive and emotional (and sometimes aggravating) plots. This will be his first attempt at a fantasy script, but the show is still expected to be another “sweet, healing drama.” Iron Man definitely sounds a bit different, and I can’t wait to hear more about it and other shows we’ll see in the fall.

I fully support this. Song Jae Rim needs to be in more dramas. Can we get his long hair back while we're at it?

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
why should we even care?
Ooops, wrong Iron Man

"...it will revolve around a man with a heart full of such pain..."
Here we are to the "man-in-pain" plot again! Truly that writers will be feeding us another man-hurt story for us viewers to be entertained (*ahem* Triangle *ahem*).
Really, their pain, our gain. :D

Is that maybe like Edward The Scissorhand? Except it's sword this time.
All 3 networks seems to have planning better for future shows and not only cast 2 months before the show airing. Seems good to me.
Anyway, I'd like to see Kim Woo Bin as the lead. He would be badass in it!!

A man with a heart full of such pain a sword sprouts from his body.
That's freakin' hilarious! Depending on who's cast for this role, I may want to be sordidly sworded by Sword Man. I bet he has balls of steel too.

That makes me think of our conflicted angel who was battling with his wings in Padam Padam. Gumihos have been done, aliens & vamps too. This is our new creature, I guess. If romance is part of the story, skinship might be tricky: "Pinned to the wall" ▶not that sexy suddenly...

Swords sprouting from what parts of his body? It could range from heroic to dramatic to comical to pornographic to just painful, depending on where.

I can literally imagine Taecyeon for this role head to foot. Then I remember how 'awesome' of an actor he is and I get sad. /sigh
It sounds fun, as long as the effects are convincing. Hopefully they cast good leads since every A-lister is either already doing a drama, slated to do one or is filming a movie.

when i read the title n the writer is the same as cinderella stepsister, i thought it will be melodrama but when there's mention about fantasy,,,,,,,aww my interest getting lesser. I'm not fans of fantasy drama
my imagination about iron man is story about a man who get through many hardship but handle it with courage n strong heart n the alead actor is joo jin mo or kim sung soo but then appear word "fantasy, the sword sprout from his body", my imagination faded away

What if he's an android? He'd literally be an "Iron Man." Hur hur. But that would make the love story a bit creepy, no? Would that make him a robotic sex toy if ever?

Was expecting the casting of Moon Geun-young, but not? Yet?
The story sounds really nice, and just the mention of Cinderella’s Sister, Wolverine, Smallville and Iron Man is getting me excited.
