More second lead stills from Joseon Gunman
by javabeans
Fine, it appears that Joseon Gunman is going to do the whole promo tease the slow, drawn-out way with one photo at a time. It’s suuuuuch a tease, but considering that I’m champing at the bit for more, I guess it’s working?
They also know just how to string us along, considering how they’re withholding from us the ones we really want to see, which is just another way of saying Lee Jun-kiiiiiiiiii. Look, I already know he’s gonna be awesome wearin’ a gat and brandishing a smoking gun, so can you just cut to the chase and give me what I want already?
But no, here’s second lead Han Joo-wan first, playing the son of a prime minister. His background of privilege is mitigated by the fact that his father ignores him (as though it’s the son’s fault for being illegitimate), and thus he leads a lonely existence. It also means he dreams of revolution and a new world. I wonder if that makes him a friend or rival to our hero; I’d just love for him to be a nuanced example of a character being effective at both roles.
With this plum role, Han Joo-wan is poised to capitalize on his successful debut in ratings hit King’s Family. The drama itself may have been all sorts of sloppy and nonsensical but it was a pretty great way for Han Joo-wan to make his debut, coming out of nowhere and playing a charming, confident character who got to pair up with Lee Yoon-ji (even if their romance was kind of strange at times—remember their dog-barking courtship bit?). I’m pretty sure it says something (good) when you’re in your first drama role and on the first day the show airs, I’m looking up his name and filing it away as one worth remembering.
Joseon Gunman will premiere in late June.

yes, yes, WHERE IS OPPA, GIVE ME LEE JUN-KI NOOOOWWWW!!! (and in character, not eating sad cup ramen)
I like Han Joo-wan in King's Family and loved his pairing with Lee Yoon-ji (was so glad to see her in a lead role finally that I stuck with the batsh*t for 30+ episodes). The only real upside of that mess was that they had good kissing, I even admit to liking the dog-barking!

Also, I'm still sad that this drama is going up against Gong Hyo-jin's next.
Don't make Korea choose between oppa and unnie, drama gods!

Joseon Gunman is set to premiere 6/18/14 and It's Okay That's Love is set to premiere sometime in July. That gives a little bit of room for Joseon Guman to rule near the beginning when IOTL hasn't aired yet and IOTL to rule near the end of the series, when JG has ended.
But yeah... kinda sad they're going up against each other for the majority of the series.

I think this way of looking at it is actually more relevant to ratings, not real viewership.
The reality is, what we watch isn't a forced (binary) choice. If both shows are appealing and well-executed, we'll be watching each one the week it's available in our media market. Unless, of course, we're simply waiting to either marathon it, or make sure it doesn't ultimately derail into a train wreck.
It sure would be nice to have a system that adequately measures a show's viewership. Then, hopefully, studios would turn their attention onto the more relevant concerns...like making sure their streaming licensees don't drive away viewers via using archaic streaming technology and having limited global coverage. *yep, looking at you Hulu*

well, ratings matter in Korea and have a more direct effect on the work the cast/writers/PD get to do afterwards, so if they're clashing in the same time slot, it's still not a good thing. But I look forward to both dramas anyway.

Yes, but it will also start in July.
Oh God, I hope this drama will be awesome and a hit ratingwise too. It breaks my heart to see that Joon Gi's dramas are always underrated no matter how awesome it is, and he is

Yea, unfortunately Arang and the Magistrate was super underrated, though it was really good.

SO true...I, for one, absolutely loved Arang and the Magistrate and it was so criminally underrated :(
It's unfortunate that Lee Jun-ki's dramas seem to be underrated and go up against other big name dramas...Two Weeks was good but it had no chance against a Hong Sister's drama :/
But I am reallyyy hoping, like you, that this drama will finally break that streak! Go Joseon Gunman! :)

I am too...they went up against each other last year already, why again this year?? :(
But, as much as I love both Lee Jun-ki and Gong Hyo-jin...I'm leaning towards watching this first. Can't wait to see LJK in his hanbok and gat *swoon* :)

He looks good, I love the hanboks and colors used in this drama so far.
Is it me or that girl's profile looks like NSM?
And yes, some Joon Gi please. Apparently they're saving the best for last...

I, for one, am eagerly anticipating when the production team will release what's gotta be the pictures that we're all collectively waiting for...Lee Jun-ki, of course! ;)
I'm loving the released pics so far, even if they're practically baiting us by going one by one. Since this is the same production team as Princess Man's, I don't doubt it'll be a great sageuk - story-wise or costume(?)-wise.
Only a few more weeks!!! :)

Princess' Man had GORGEOUS costumes - very distinctive, and with an original flair. Judging by the single still of a female character we've seen here and the info that this will be set in an era when the male lead gets to wear suits too, we have nothing to worry about on the costume front.

Oooh! I really liked Han Joo Wan in King's Family, and I basically watched all his earlier scenes with Lee Yoon Ji. They were great as a couple! (Maybe I will continue watching the rest of it someday....)
Anyways he is looking great here :D
