Kim Go-eun, Kim Hye-soo team up in Coin Locker Girl
by awcoconuts
Well, this casting news is exciting. The movie Coin Locker Girl is about a baby girl who is left in a coin-operated storage locker in a subway station, and is discovered and raised by members of the shady underworld. Its initial setting is the same as Coin Locker Babies, the 1980 Ryu Murakami cyberpunk novel, but the similarities end there; the latter (a US-film version of which has been languishing for the better part of a decade) is a dark tale about two baby boys left for dead in adjacent train station lockers — they survive and grow up in an orphanage, but are unable to escape their troubled upbringing.
That’s not to say that the Chungmuro film will be light and fluffy, but it’s probably safe to assume it won’t delve into the depths of despair the book did. Kim Go-eun, who shot to fame in 2012’s Eungyo and received multiple best new actress awards for her debut performance, is very close to being confirmed for the role of baby girl grown young lady. Her team said that barring the extraordinary, Kim Go-eun will be in the movie, and they are working out the final details. We saw her last in Monster, which was released a couple of months ago, and will see her next in the upcoming Memory of the Sword, with Lee Byung-heon and Jeon Do-yeon.
It will be the rising star’s first time working with veteran Kim Hye-soo (The Face Reader, God of the Workplace), an actress whom Kim Go-eun has mentioned in the past as a sunbae she would like to work with. The seasoned celebrity will play the leader of the underground loan sharks, who takes Kim Go-eun under her wing and is a charismatic mother figure. As she gets older, Kim Go-eun is given increasing responsibilities and assignments by her makeshift family — will she be able to break away from the unscrupulous activities she grew up around? Or will she be the successor to Kim Hye-soo’s Godmother-like baddie? We’ll have to watch to find out.
After finalizing the rest of its cast, Coin Locker Girl will begin filming this summer.

She needs to bring her knife from 'Monster.' This looks like a tough crowd.

oooh this reminds me, I should watch Monster. It's always great to see a young actress with actual talent get breaks in Chungmuro, and I look forward to her and Kim Hye-soo.

Yes on Monstar. But don't go in with very high expectations. It's a fairly OK show, but you won't be blown away by it.
