Ha Jung-woo’s band of outlaws runs rampant
by girlfriday
Is it finally actually time for a peek at this movie? Here’s the first teaser for Ha Jung-woo and Kang Dong-won’s new action sageuk Kundo: Age of the Rampant (I’ve been calling it Band of Thieves, which is what kundo means). The character posters for the ensemble cast are fantastically pretty, but the thing I’m fixated on is… Ha Jung-woo makes the best stank face I have ever seen.
Kundo comes from writer-director Yoon Jong-bin (Nameless Gangster), and stars Ha Jung-woo as the double-butcher-knife-carrying leader of a scary band of outlaws who steal from the rich and give to the poor. The story is set in late Joseon, as class warfare breeds more and more discontent, and slaves are fed up with corrupt noblemen living off the fat of the land. An unlikely set of heroes emerges — bandits who steal from corrupt officials to feed the people, and brute-force a system of equality through crime and violence.
Kang Dong-won plays the evil nobleman’s son who represents the worst of the corrupt, and as the best warrior in the land, he’s sent to hunt Ha Jung-woo down. The trailer opens with a rousing speech from Lee Sung-min (Miss Korea), who says that we are all brothers and sisters in this land: “But the strong persecute the weak, and those who have, extort from those who have not. We are here to rectify that world!” Kang Dong-won sniffs them out, and Ha Jung-woo vows to go cut off his head and bring it back himself. And the battle begins.
The ensemble cast includes Jo Jin-woong (Full Sun), Ma Dong-seok (Murderer), Jung Man-shik (Feel-Good Day), Lee Kyung-young (The Terror Live), Yoon Ji-hye (Ghost), and Kim Sung-kyun (Answer Me 1994).
Kundo: Age of the Rampant hits theaters July 23.

Ha Jung is really bad ass in this one. It feels as if in the past years he played the same roles, though great but so similar... This new "look" is a nice change.

He's one actor who strikes me as a total chameleon, his role in Love Fiction is nothing at all like The Berlin File and yet he makes both work with absolute style.

Me too... He is one great chameleon of an actor..
I think he is one of those A-listors who actually has played diverse roles.
... from being weird musical idiot son in the Fox Family, to Psycho in The chaser, charismatic Gangster in Nameless Gangster, to ambitious career man in Terror Live, to a spy in Berlin file, to uniquely quirky in Love Fiction, to understanding boyfriend in Time, to a man on a runin Yellow Sea, to Host in Moonlight in Seoul and a beta Male in My dear Enemy... Those roles have been so DIVERSE...
I think the Korean Media has always mentioned that he is one diverse actor especially with the roles he plays.

HJW and KDW?? Count me in!!! I absolutely love those two actors...these posters just scream fierce badass hotness! :)
Saw the news about this movie on one of the entertainment shows a few days back. I was just flipping by the channel but this caught my eye, especially when I heard the names HJW and KDW. I like the rest of the cast too.
The solo pic of KDW in blue kinda struck me as LJK in his AatM persona, btw.

Ah, been waiting forever for this movie.
Really like the posters, they look dynamic and lively, different from the usual sageuk movie poster which usually have the samey-samey vibe of grandiose and melo.
Nearly can't recognize HJW in the posters and I love it when KDW plays villain roles.

I am looking forward to it. The trailer totally reminded me of the underrated 2005 movie Hyeongsa. People who had seen it would know why.

Seriously amazing photos. Looks like a great epic saga movie. AND I can't see it because I'm in the U.S.? I have to wait at least a year to see it, if I'm lucky. OMGosh...so not right. I have little interest in watching the KRAP put out by "hollywood"...but Korea???Oh yeah...please?? sooner than later??
