Choi Woo-shik cast as Jang Hyuk’s bratty brother

The cast list is beefing up for Fated To Love You, and the newest addition is 24-year-old Choi Woo-shik, who has been steadily amassing a string of credits in supporting roles over the past couple years, including Rooftop Prince, TEN, and Tree With Deep Roots. He’ll be giving hero Jang Hyuk a run for his money as his kid brother and rival, which should make for an interesting dynamic.

Jang Hyuk plays a chaebol in a family line that’s in danger of petering out thanks to a lack of successors in the younger generation. That explains why there’s such a push for him to marry against his wishes when he gets sweet but utterly ordinary Jang Nara pregnant in a one-night stand. (You must procreate and continue the family legacy!)

Choi Woo-shik harbors ambitions of becoming the heir and thus goes up to challenge his half-brother… but his immature appearance and “cutely bratty deeds” promise to elicit more laughs than anything. Aw, that’s pretty much perfect casting, because Choi Woo-shik is a solid up-and-coming actor who’s developing a nice level of detail to his expressiveness, but also has that impish baby face. Combined, he seems both younger and older than his age, which should serve him nicely for this character.

Fated To Love You will premiere in July.

(Pssst... This cast list would be more beefed up if they add Song Jae Rim. Just sayin.)

Kidding aside, I had to backtrack because I don't remember CWS in TWDR. He wasn't one of the scholars who helped the King, right?

Then I remembered he played the younger Jung Ki Joon! Nice... I forgot that he can also do smug/arrogant. This will come in handy when he's trying to one-up his hyung (and failing hilariously, I hope).

Yey! Please come soon FTLY! Preferably with a Song Jae Rim attached.

Oh. Uhm, there's not much romance. But there is a great story, nerd power (it's about how the King developed Hangul) and great acting from everyone.

I can't recommend it for romance :( but as a drama in itself, it's a good one!

Don't fear I'm always here. :-)

This is some serious fun.

P.S. I remember him in it's okay daddy's girl and think the character is also pretty similar. He's spot on for this character from what I remember.

Hey mary ;-)

Ohhhh, the guy from FBRS, wow he's changed (duh) but I'm gna watch Big Man soon so will see him in that.
What do you find so fascinating in him? Just ya know...curious.

He only had a bit role in FBRS. He was more visible as bodyguard in METS and assassin in Two Weeks. But it's Age of Feeling's My Il Hwa that made me crazy.

He was such a cool char there. ^^ when he shows up, you know things are gonna be ok. Crazy, but ok. Like a hot Dumbledore. Hahahaha (that sounded weird)

He's such a scene hog. A peacock. He'd tilt his head and straighten his vest and wink and smirk and roll his eyes and offer you BBQ and stuff, I think he had fun playing the role and I had fun watching him in it.

There's also Nail Shop Paris. This 10 episode, crazy CoffeePrince-MyGFIsGumiho-You'reBeautiful mash-up where SJR really shines. You can read JB's 2013 yearend review. She only survived that show because of Song Jae Rim. :)

i couldnt get beyond two eps of the original t-drama, but with all this casting news i think i'm going to give the korean version a shot! i hope jang nara shows a flash of spunk from the start rather than halfway. jang hyuk has high potential for villainy considering his previous roles so hopefully he brings the nice(r) guy out instead.

Go go Choi Woo Shik! I think he'd just dropped by as bad 90's hairstyles for an episode of Your All Surrounded, but he was great as the Kill bill power ranger. I'm excited this role will be fully formed and less..... eunuch-y.

I must have missed that the first time, thanks for pointing me to the links! I'm happy to see Song Ok Sook as Jang Nara's mother...and if I'm not mistaken Jang Hyuk's grandmother is the same actress who played Eun Chan's mom in Coffee Prince, right?

both ladies would be familar faces to those that watch K-Dramas. One was Jang Nara's mother in Wedding and she also acted with her in Baby Faced Beauty, I remember the other from the High Kick series but she played the mother in lots of dramas!
At a certain age they seem to use the same actors and actress as the older generation in drama over and over.

Okay, so I hated the original T-drama but all this casting news is making me curious to check out the remake. Maybe I'll give it two episodes to reel me in. Not familiar with this actor but he's cute. Hopefully he'll be bratty in a funny way and not an infuriating one. It feels like a lot of younger actors are getting shots on the network and cable fronts these days. Good for them. Dramaland could use some fresh blood.

Ahh makes me want to rewatch the Taiwanese fated to love you! Can't wait for this new version! Oh and is it just me or is the plot a chaebol marrying a girl cuz she got preggo in a kdrama sound mighty out of the "ordinary" in KDrama land? I'm normally expecting glasses of water being thrown at the face of the female lead, envelopes of money being given & the claiming the baby but kicking the mom to the curb! Guess I'm a bit drama jaded. :P

I loved him in TEN. I too hope he won't be the really annoying rival. Or turn annoying - that's what usually happens in kdramaland.

Aww, I liked him a lot in TEN!
I guess his character and Jang Hyuk's characters won't have that close of a relationship/friendship.
I dislike it when close brothers are torn apart by a girl. -__-
Hope his character is more cute and funny than one full of angst.

ummm there was no younger brother in the original "Fated to love you"...so we can safely say that this remake is not totally gonna stick to it's source material....I like the actor casted, but I am not sure if I am perfectly happy about the k version changing up the storyline...or maybe I just like the T version too much for it to get manipulated....
Oh well....lets see how this turns out...
There are a very few drama remakes that actually beat the original one or actually come close to me enjoying them as much as I did tje original...the only recent remake that was much loved by me was the Japanese remake of Itakiss ♡

Nope there was some half-something. Maybe not a brother but cousin, I am not sure. The mother of that person was kind of the housekeeper of grandma's household.

yeah I think they came from the wrong side of the family, ie so where not blood related but by marriage and where made to known it too, thus the bad blood. But here he seems to be going to be a blood half brother of some kind. In the TW he was never a danger to the lead but more for laughs really

Oh he is indeed a perfect cast for this. I love this kiddo and will definitely follow up his career. He has an unique face, very memorable in a way that you remember this really cutesy and sweet baby doll, but he is definitely stealing the scenes with his acting skills too. He has expressive eyes and strangely endearing facial twitches. For sure a noona killer!! Hope you will develop his skills to carry the shows on his own.

NO WAY!!!! I'm so happy!!! This cast is pretty fantastic. I LOVE Choi Woo-shik, he was one of my favorite characters in Ten! Although I admit that I had other projects in my mind that I rather he were a part of (simply because this feels like one of those rom-coms allllllll about main couple) , but going up against Jang Hyuk is a big step up. Love it!
