Yeon Woo-jin offered leading role in new tvN drama
by girlfriday
Yaaay, a leading role for Yeon Woo-jin! Well, it’ll be a leading role if he takes it — he’s just considering for now. The drama is called Anticipate Marriage, and it’s being prepped as cable network tvN’s next Friday-Saturday show following Gap-dong. The series comes from the writer of the KBS two-episode drama short Anticipate Love, a rom-com starring Daniel Choi and BoA. There’s a connection in the two titles (and the name pun behind them), but the two stories are unrelated.
This full-length drama will be directed by PD Song Hyun-wook, who directed Haeundae Lovers and was the second PD on Brain. The drama short Anticipate Love was cute if underdeveloped and open-ended, but hey, what can you do with two episodes? (It was also aired over at KBS as a pilot, which is unusual, and indicates that they were hoping to be picked up for a longer format.)
Anticipate Marriage will be about a perfectly perfect eligible bachelor who doesn’t want to be married — it’s the one sticking point with his family, who approves of everything in his life except his stubborn insistence on maintaining his awesome single life. He’s a successful doctor with a degree from a prestigious university, and is a plastic surgeon with his own practice in ritzy Cheongdam-dong.
But as the eldest grandson of a hoity-toity family, no amount of running away will get his family to back off about finding a wife. So he hatches a plan to find a girlfriend to introduce to his parents — one who will never ever get Mom and Dad’s approval, and will effectively squash their hopes for his happily wedded after. He goes and finds a nobody to pose as his girlfriend, and naturally, hijinks ensue.
It sounds adorable; I just hope it’s more of a rom-com about a guy who happens to be a doctor, and not anything resembling a medical drama because we just did that with Emergency Couple. I didn’t watch very much of Yeon Woo-jin’s last drama When a Man Loves, but I loved him as the conflicted killer in Arang and the Magistrate and maknae oppa in Ojakkyo Brothers. Cable seems to be the place for second leads to graduate into hero-dom, and I’m thrilled that he’s being courted to join the ranks.
Anticipate Marriage will premiere in late June.

Ahhhhhhhhhh!! I thought his name and face are familiar and then I read Arang and The Magistrate. Yay Joo-wal!! I hope he take it, I miss him already. The drama sounds fun and I agree about this drama better not be a medical drama.

The premise sounds cute, I'll probably give this one a go.
Hopefully the female lead character wont be a typical down on her luck, working 50 part time jobs candy.
Is it too soon for another gumiho?

Also, he was one of my favorite characters in OB. I thought that of all the brothers, he should have gotten the girl (or least stayed with her), for sure. I felt so bad for him, when they had to part.

ME TOO! He became my favorite brother and I actually thought he deserved to be with her at the end more than the others. Sometimes he did a better job of taking care of the eldest brother's son than he did. He showed the most growth throughout the drama and I thought he totally deserved the girl!

Hooray for the maknae oppa love! He was my fav, too, although I had a lot of love for most all the characters. Honestly, he ended up being the most practical and levelheaded of the brothers...

Hello Chandler and ladida,
I am so glad I am not the only one who felt that way. Yes, I TOTALLY agree, Maknae oppa had the most growth, considering where he started (spoiled [by mom] ladies' man, I think, or something like that) and he did take good care of his nephew and told his brothers straight at times. He was also so good to his woman, so sweet to her (and protective). I loved the way he told her that he loved her on that game show, so sweet (the thing I can't tell you). And he looked good with her, and he IS handsome and cute. Also, ladida is right: he was the most practical and levelheaded of the brothers…
Chandler is absolutely right: of all the brothers, he TOTALLY deserved the girl. The 1st brother seriously irritated me for a very good portion of the drama (he had so many issues), the 2nd brother had his 1st love issues, but then he became good to his wife and adorable too (my 2nd favorite couple), JW's character had anger management issues (for which he never sought counseling for, and why not? Even I was scared of him, when he went off on Uee) and Maknae oppa, awwww... I simply loved his growth. And he looked like a puppy :-) which I loved (so he had me there). The reason why they had to break up was stupid, if you ask me. But oh well...
You guys just made me want to go back and rewatch the scenes with Maknae oppa. I loved it when he told Uee's characters that all the men are bad/dogs (or something like that), except for Maknae oppa, and I think Uee (her character) repeated that back to him, at some point. JW's character was so childish at times (especially when he was jealous), I couldn't believe a 30 year old was behaving like that :-) Thanks for the memories guys :-)

"Just a successful doctor, not a genius?"
I know right? I couldn't believe it either. South Korea is running rampant with snotty, but trainable chaebol heirs, sweet good girls with perfect timing to meet them, and geeeeenius, well…everything. I was surprised that he was just a regular ole successful doctor.
At least he comes from an insanely rich family, or I wouldn't have believed this storyline the LEAST LITTLE BIT.

missDVM,
I really loved your post, especially this, "and geeeeenius, well…everything" (because it's true), and especially this as well "At least he comes from an insanely rich family, or I wouldn’t have believed this storyline the LEAST LITTLE BIT."
So well said...

It's such a good news...I loved him in arang and the magistrate and now we are gonna see him as a baddas and smart doctor. ...
The plot sounds really cute and I would be doubly happy if Shin Min Ah or Moon Chae Won is signed off as the lead...they would really match up with him...*fingers crossed*

I really liked Anticipate Love--it just took way too long for that couple to figure out who each other were, though, omg. I really hope he takes this, though. Would love to see him as a lead. And yeah, it doesn't sound like this will be focusing on his profession too much but I wouldn't be surprised if the heroine worked around with him or something--a secretary? Some random lady who walked in to his practice?

Sounds promising. I was a fan of his in Arang and Ojak Brothers too. It would be nice to see him in a leading role. I checked and he's turning 30 this year, I guess he's already done his military service. If this is the case perhaps a leading role here will spear-head him into more leading roles.

YAY! I'm so happy for him! Love him and his romance in Ojakgyo Brothers was one of my favorites :) It'll be great to see him in something where he gets the girl in the end :) Can't wait to hear who his leading lady might be!
Also I enjoyed Anticipate Love until I realized that the 2 episodes were over already and they had given us a ridiculous ending and hardly any screen time between our leads. Still it was light and fluffy and I enjoyed the lead characters and their romance so hopefully, with a longer run, this drama will fix some of that one's mistakes.

I'm always suspicious when it is announced that an actor is "considering" a role. Isn't that just manager talk for: "Oh God, I hope he gets this part."

There's a French movie that has the same premise "Prete-moi ta main" In the movie the hero has another job but as in Anticipate marriage he's facing pressure from his family and decide to "hire" a girl to pose as his girlfriend. The female lead need to be well chosen cause she made a lot in the laughing in the movie. It was hilarious and touching at the same time. I really enjoyed it so let's hope the drama will be good.
