Seo Hyo-rim added to weekend drama Endless Love

Seo Hyo-rim is the latest actor to join the cast for Endless Love, the SBS weekend drama that has already cast Jung Kyung-ho (Heartless City), Ryu Soo-young (Two Weeks), Cha In-pyo (Kye Baek, and Hwang Jung-eum (Secret). Not a shabby lineup, is it?

The drama spans from the 1970s through the current day against an economic and political backdrop, dealing with themes of ambition, love, and dreams. I know, it’s vague enough to keep us all wondering, although based on the production credits I think we can expect a large-scale melodrama with lots of movement and intense emotional arcs. Writer Na Yeon-sook penned the multigenerational epic East of Eden, and PD Lee Hyun-jik previously worked on Warrior Baek Dong-soo and Lobbyist.

Hwang Jung-eum plays a woman out for revenge after witnessing her mother’s death and is a bit of a rough-around-the-edges type, who was once romantically involved with Ryu Soo-young. Throughout their relationship, his younger brother Jung Kung-ho harbored a one-sided love for her; his love for her continues unabated in adulthood, wherein the two brothers’ lives take disparate paths—hyung Ryu Soo-young is ruthless and ambitious, while his younger brother was more of the rebel and notorious fighter.

Seo Hyo-rim will play the wife of Ryu Soo-young, who wholeheartedly throws herself into their relationship. The descriptions don’t tell us how he feels about the marriage, but I’m hoping for her sake that it’s reciprocated (although I pretty much expect that it isn’t—otherwise, where’s the drama?). She does have a tendency to play characters who seethe without love, doesn’t she? Or perhaps it’s just that a couple of her more memorable recent roles have been in that vein, after being the poor neglected rich girl in Scent of a Woman and the legitimately crazy scorned actress in That Winter, The Wind Blows.

Endless Love will be the drama to follow Angel Eyes and premieres in June.

Looks good, will give it a go

Btw, what is a weekend drama; i understand it'll air on weekends, but roughly how many episodes?
(Like is it 16ish or 40ish?)
Thanx

Weekend dramas are typically longer. Usually, at the least, 30 episodes and up to 60+ if a drama is well received. They are often "family" dramas depicting multiple storylines for different members of a family. The good ones can be wonderful with many different love lines and couples to root for. They can be very sweet and uplifting. The not as wonderful ones are often riddled with makjang elements like birth secrets, dreaded illness, your crazy evil mother-in-laws to name a few tropes.

With weekend dramas you never quite know what you're going to get. And a drama can start out seeming sweet and normal but over a 50 episode span can quickly take a turn to the crazy. I enjoy weekend dramas, but there have been many that have left me wanting to throw things at the screen.

Completely agree with everything you said...you couldn't have described weekend dramas better!

And it seems as though weekend dramas as of late are on that downhill trend of being so frustratingly f-ed up, especially towards the later half of the run.

But yet...if the overall plot draws some interest to me, I end up tuning in for a bit -- which does lead to those instances where I end up being burned by the ending.

Ah, I miss the days when weekend dramas were actually fairly decent with no crazy shenanigans...

I've found that the way to watch week-end dramas is to tune in once every 2 weeks, i.e. watch 1 ep in 4, and then they feel less crazy, and even quite enjoyable.

Weekend dramas in general (not always) tend to be more of the makjang cliché driven 40 to 60 episode soap-opera type dramas. They also tend to have a lot more characters - there might be 4-5 different plots all going at once.

There are exceptions - Angel Eyes, currently running, only has 16 (or 20?) episodes and is more of a conventional drama series.

I like Seo Hyo-rim, she's charming and can be good when given something to play with - I really enjoyed her turn as the bratty-but-vulnerable agasshi in Sungkyunkwan Scandal. And the subversion of her usual character type in Master's Sun.

I'm already looking forward to this for the cast alone, I adore all the actors involved (what is with all the 50-episoders/weekend dramas getting my interest recently?! Wonderful Season, Triangle, Angel Eyes and now this).

Good for her! She's effective and pretty, when they don't give her the bug-eyed Klingon make-up job she was sporting in 'Scent of a Woman.'

JUNG KYUNG-HO!

love the guy, but i haven't checked anything by him since Time Between Wolf and Dog. idk if i'll even watch this bc i'm overwhelmed by all the other dramas out right now. if nothing interesting is on June, i definitely will. but i doubt that...even though i love Seo Hyo-rim :'(

It's pity that Seo Hyo-rim always ends playing supporting roles.I really like her.She was absolutely adorable Worlds Within.I think she's a good actress and possesses enough charm and spark to play the lead role in a drama.

Hmm.. "..harbored a one-sided love for her..".

Wow, never seen that lately in a k-drama, have we?

Will k-drama writers EVER come up with new plot devices, like you know.. based on how people REALLY act in RL?

What? Never went through an unrequited love before? Or crushed on a siblings significant other secretly? Lol, though I don't think I could wallow in it for as long as these characters do. Maybe he's had some girlfriends in the meantime.

She has what is known in the non-medical world as "Resting B#$ch Face". As a fellow RBF sufferer, it would be refreshing to see her in a lead role, preferably comedic...something to show all those non-RBFs out there that we are more than just a bitchy face

Is that Jung Woong-in?? Heyyyy, a Ryu Soo-young + Jung Woong-in reunion. I wonder what his role in this would be. He played the bumbling hyung quite well in Ojakkyo Brothers. But he was also the most atrocious villain in IHYV. I wonder, I wonder....

I am most curious about that as well. We haven´t seen him in a wise mentor or a goofy weirdo role yet. maybe a goofy guru... I wonder. or he could just be one of those absolutely annoying neighbors who can´t leave your life alone and drive you mad.

I noticed him too in the script reading pics...and so then yes, it'll be an OB bro reunion!

OB was the first drama I'd seen with him in it...so I had no idea that he played villains so well until IHYV and EK (although in EK, he was part of the TQ crew--not a singular villain as in IHYV).

I, too, wonder what role he'll play in here. Seeing as RSY is playing an antagonistic role here, maybe JWI will be the opposite...? That would be an interesting setup, imo...since he's done villainous roles as of late.

I like her. I thought she was charming in Me Too Flower and Sungkyunkwan Scandal. I hope she can elevate to atleast a second lead role soon, one that's not evil and bitchy.

She was fairly decent when she did that KBS daily with JYH and KSE...but she does have that seething biatch face, haha. Her roles in TWTWB and SoW pretty much cemented it for me that she's typecasted in that capacity...but she does pull it off well.

The casting for this is pretty solid, although I will likely tune in to see JKH ;)

And nice to see another Tara around here...I was scrolling down and saw the other comments and was like, "huh? I didn't post those"...haha.
