Rain courted for dramaland comeback

Well this is happy news. Rain is considering a new drama for the fall, after a four-year hiatus from television since 2010’s Runaway: Plan B. It’s been nice to see him back on variety shows like Rain Effect and Running Man since completing army duty, but it’s far more exciting that he’s seriously considering a drama. The new series is called Indian Summer, named for the sudden heat wave that occurs in autumn.
The project already has some buzz for its potential PD-star reunion because PD Lee Hyung-min will be directing. His first solo credit as a director is 2003’s Sang-doo Let’s Go to School, which starred Rain very early in his career as an actor. The PD has since done I’m Sorry, I Love You, Snow Queen, Bad Guy, and Hanbando. And despite the crazy that was Bad Guy, I was always very impressed by its moody visuals. It’s safe to say this guy is good at melodramas, and does the kind that don’t make me want to spork my eyes out.
The drama will be a melo about “the short miracle, a gift from the gods that comes before winter,” aka an Indian summer, used as a metaphor for “hope that finds you in the midst of despair when you don’t expect it.” There isn’t much about the plot, but it’s described as a healing drama about finding sincerity in this contemporary world, and focuses on a love story as well as parental love.
Indian Summer is hoping to secure a slot on the fall drama slate, and plans to start shooting in June.

Because it's really testing physically and mentally to film dramas : the whole live-shoot system, the changes in the script and you have to film in the rush few hours before the episode airs, makjang BTS like with Aurora or more recently Age of feeling. In every way, it's much more pleasant to shoot a movie than a drama. Kang Dong Won even said for him shooting a drama is worse than passing an exam (and we know how difficult it is in South Korea).
That's why I'm amazed when I see A-list movie stars like Ha Ji Won, Hyun Bin, Jang Dong Gun, Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Ha Neul etc.. shooting dramas when they aren't forced to.

What Lexurite said. Dramas look like the last refuge of Joseon peasant oppression in South Korea. Apparently working people for 22 hours a day and punishing or humiliating them if they show signs of exhaustion or complain about their failing health is a normal thing.You might as well be working in a Chinese or Marianas sweat shop. Would you pull a job like that if you weren't desperate for money?

Hmmm.. I think getting paid more for less work has something to do with it. Some celebrities do dramas not for the sake of being in a drama but the possible payoff if the drama is successful (CFs, movie offers, more CFs, fan meetings etc..).

Rain is A-list drama star?! Really? Don't get me wrong, I am his big fan, and watched, also listened to him in everything ... but playing Ninja or sitting on the designated chair with his name on it (on the set of upcoming movie Pince) next to Bruce Willis's chair, doesn't make him an A-list movie star. Just saying.

The thought crossed my mind too. I think it would be swoon-worthy. <3 I hope it materializes, but SHG seems to be very busy with overseas projects.
If it's not SHG, I think Yoon Eun Hye fits the bill too.

I agree, please cast Yoon Eun-hye PDnim. She needs to be in another good drama. She's my absolute favourite actress but I refuse to watch Mi-rae's Choice. She needs to be in something else I enjoy, I can only watch Coffee Prince and Lie to Me so many times.

There's already Indian summer movie (2001) starring park shinyang. It's also melodrama romance. Is it same story? Why they didn't told that it based on that movie?

He's done melo, he's done rom-com. He's good at both. But personally I like him in rom-com best. Full House remains one of my all time fave drama so far.

i have difficulty watching him in melodrama, a love to kill, that drama fail to make me feel the sadness, when the first i saw the teaser in tv with the backsong of the ost i really wanna watch it, because it seems really dramatic but i couldn't get the emotion but i really like the main song

I still think his best on screen partner is Song Hye Kyo..I think they still gonna have that chemistry. Want to see them in a melo..All they did in Full house is fight but you can already see the chemistry, what more in a melo??Want to see that..but..Song hye Kyo is gonna be busy with promoting The Crossing(her chinese movie) and her movie with Kang Dong Won (My Palpitating Life) plus she's being courted by another Korean movie..Oh well!!A girl can dream...It still pains me that I havent seen them all lovey dovey until the late few minutes of the last episode of Full House...DramaGods, please....:)

Native Americans were thought to have originally migrated into the Americas across the Bearing or Bering Straits. They do have their own creation stories about how they came to exist here. Often during my time in school, many exchange students from China and Japan would ask my Native American friend what race she was. A Google search will help you to understand why Rain's appearence might remind you of someone who is Native American. Some of his features remind me of features I find attractive on Black men: his high cheek bones, full lips, and cute tush. His style of dancing (especially back in the day) are also an added plus.
I think it would be interesting if his current girlfriend were cast as his love interest in the movie. I imagine that the chemistry between them would enhance Indian Summer. Anyway, anyone who comes across this comment and is Native American please feel free to correct me if needed.

Love Rain. Hip Song nearly ruined me for other men. It is nice to see him thinking about getting back in a drama even though I like him in his roles better than I like his dramas over all.
Not so jazzed on the melo. The director, that really tells us that its likely this will be a kind of cool tone in drama but with a lot of wtf and/or a wtf ending. Will hope that the director branches out a bit lol. It would be nice to see the drama allow some good kissing scenes because you know, Rain has really nice lips and such a crying shame to waste the potential. We all have our priorities, ha.

I was hoping that he will be in a rom-com drama again but if he's considering this project just to see him again in a drama, why not, I'm all in!

I loved Rain in Sang-Do, Let's Go to School! So it's nice that they might be having a reunion :) In fact, I remember adoring the first half of that drama, even if it became a little too sad for me, I always really liked the directing and Rain's acting even though they were both rather green at the time.

Ohhh, Sang Doo is one of my all-time favourites! I think this drama along with I Am A Cyborg But It's OK is Rain's best accomplishment. So my hopes are high.
As for the speculations about his co-star, I would like to see him work with Choi Yeo Jin. I guess they might have some chemistry.

Indian Summer lasts more than a month, sometimes month and a half in sunny Colorado. That's why we say there's only two seasons here: summer and winter. BTW: In ALL Slavic cultures it's called Babi Leto (Ajumma' Summer) meaning that middle-aged ladies are still hot and waiting for love. Are we in for another noona romance? With Rain? Sign me up, please.
