Kissing tips and beating hearts in Witch’s Romance

Witch’s Romance hasn’t been the drama highest on my radar for the upcoming season, but I do find myself warming up to it with this set of promotional teasers and stills, which highlight a sharp rom-com vibe. The plot itself is hardly new—older woman, younger man, love in the workplace—but execution is all the thing, and I do like the funny, light touch of the previews.

Plus, Uhm Jung-hwa is really fantastic in rom-coms; I don’t necessarily love her all across the board but I do think she’s very good, so I have no doubts that this she’ll be the one to make this drama work. She plays the 39-year-old “gold miss” heroine (gold miss being the reappropriation of the less triumphant old miss label) who’s bold and confident… but is actually on the verge of a nervous breakdown. In the cute teaser directly below, she wonders why she has such trouble dating when she’s got everything else working out for her—looks, career, finances.

Into the picture steps Park Seo-joon (Warm Words), playing an aimless 25-year-old. He’s the one who grabs her in a steamy embrace ready to show her a thing or two about romance… and then wonders why he’s feeling so nervous all of a sudden. Cute.

Witch’s Romance will be tvN’s next Monday-Tuesday drama, and will premiere on April 14.

Please be amazing, oh Drama. My Queen was an awesome Tdrama and I can't settle for anything less.

Anyways, so far it looks good.....never really noticed Um Jung Hwa before but she's looking great here. I certainly hope she gives this role the best that she got....to the point that I can even love this character more than Cheryl Yang's version of it.

YES =) This is the one I am most looking forward to besides Gap Dong.

With all the dark and twisty dramas going on this will hopefully be the one lighting up the week^^ With Cunning Single Lady ending next week WR will be the only rom-com out there that I am watching and I need something light and funny!

The teasers look really cute and now I can't wait for it to begin :)

This IS the show I've been waiting for after all the thriller-dillers lately! He was very charismatic in Warm Words, so- fingers crossed for this show.

I love her dress in the first photo! tvN and JTBC are stepping up their game in terms of casting and storyline for rom-coms. Really looking forward to this one.

I love her dress too. (But what's the deal with all the bears' heads? Is there some symbolic thing I'm not aware of?)

I had wondered why the dress look familiar. Chun Song Yi wore it while getting her make up done pre-red carpet. And I think that last pic is the same dress when she was preggo in Do Min Joon's happy dream. And that purple... flowery... see through. I think that's the same Burberry Prorsum but Song Yi wore the green version when she said, "You should've just told me you didn't like me. Why tell me you came from the stars?"...

I'm screwed. I'm clearly still hung up on the show. Sigh.

As with other tropes the noona conceit is starting to get a little tired. But Uhm Jung Hwa is a terrific actress so this one I'll certainly give a try.

My sentiments exactly. Not a fan of noona romances, but I love Uhm Jung-hwa so this has its appeal for me. ^^

What I'd love to see whipped together is a trope-tastic Kdrama adaptation of Harold and Maude. But with a bit of time traveling thrown in, and 'Maude' being the secret lover from the past.

Maybe a "You From Another Star"-type mashup of Master's Sun, Queen In Hyun's Man, and a bit of Empress Ki thrown in for good measure (perhaps revealing the untold and scandalous reasons for Empress Ki's end-of-life 'disappearance').

So Uhm Tae Woong did rom-com in JTBC and now his noona is doing rom-com in TVN? Cute! Uhm siblings rocking up cables!

Interesting, I actually spotted a few familiar scenes from the original drama, like the santa claus cosplay, high-school uniform and the kissing scene but with added Korean flavour, Soju instead of beer, heh! I do wish they kept the 8 years age gap, which in the original drama symbolize for infinite possibilities when "8" is placed horizontally. That was Defeated Queen's trademark and it's a pity they took that out. Looks good though, might catch this.

Whaaa? Omg, how can they take the 8 year gap out??? Some of my favorite scenes in that drama revolved around the number 8.....like the sad turtle with the eight next to it, heroine drawing eight between them in ground with stick....those were scenes wrought with sadness, hope, vulnerability, etc. What other number can change to the infinity sigh?? This is nuts.

Well, at least the familiar scenes like the Santa Claus one and kissing in the restaurant give me some relief. I really wish things would mostly be like the original just with maybe a much faster plot and less nonsense in the second half.

My Queen remake? seriously? they better do it well or they BURRRRN. But the age gap is way bigger than the original. she looks cute though.

but I seriously don´t get the concept of severed bear heads. I think it is creepy. what´s with that?

At 50, I had a 39 year old man hit on me today. In real life. I have no interest in noona romance. But in a rom/com it can be fun. I'm looking forward to this. (Now if I can only find the time to start watching KDrama again!)

hmm too much plastic surgery on uhm jung hwa ruins the show for me. In all her dramas i feel like mask between the viewer and the expressions she is badly trying to act

My Queen was an awesome drama, made great by Cheryl Yang and of course, my loves Ethan Ruan who was so charismatic and one can't help but fall for him. The 8-year between them was believable and them taking on such obstacle was realistic, but Witch Romance take it a notch higher with a 14 year year difference, i dunno if it is gonna work. Anyways, TDrama is more of realism, while, well, KDrama is drama all the way so maybe they can pull it off. I sure will watch this, only to see how it will fare with MQ. If the male lead has the makings of Ethan Ruan then they will have no problem pulling this off.

uhm junghwa really found a character that spot on with her real life image! hehe! hope it's good... will be tuning in. like her in general, and she was good in Venus Talk (most recent film) which also had her playing the noona in the a noona romance (so cute!) so hopefully it translates over!

What with the bear heads, tiaras, spiky Statue of Liberty hair-thingummy, and hair curlers - it looks like a much more pastel version of the Master's Sun posters, but very cute nonetheless!

The last thing I saw Uhm Jung-hwa in was "Montage" (the story was grim, but she was great!) so I'm looking forward to seeing her back in sunny rom-com territory.

Just watched the first episode yesterday, and I'm hooked. This one seems to be a great rom-com noona-romance. I haven't watch My Queen despite tons of people's recommendations, but watching the first episode makes me want to watch the original ver. too.

Any chance this would be recapped here?

honestly, for appearance and character I prefer the female lead in My Queen, she's so pretty, her face is kind of fierce, she can act too... While the taiwan version's male lead is kind of bad boy, the korean version is nice cut boy next door. But even though the taiwanese version (original version) is longer than korean version, it gives more explanation and detail to its story. I watched both, but I watch the taiwan version by skip/fast forward some episodes.
