Jung Yumi courted for new KBS rom-com
by girlfriday
I do adore Jung Yumi (God of the Workplace, I Need Romance 2012), and I especially love her in romantic comedies, so this is great news for me. She’s being courted to headline a new drama called Discovery of Romance (or dating, if you want to be literal), a rom-com that’s planning to air in KBS’s summer Monday-Tuesday slot. After a spring chock full of thrillers, I guess we’re in for a summer of love in dramaland.
The new rom-com comes from writer Jung Hyun-jung of the I Need Romance franchise — she wrote all three installments of the series for tvN, which is, of course, her connection to Jung Yumi who starred in I Need Romance 2012. I’m excited about the team-up, because while the second chapter is probably my least favorite, I like the franchise overall and I’m looking forward to seeing something new from this writer that isn’t just the same formula on repeat.
If she signs on, Jung Yumi will star as a furniture designer who owns a workshop space that she shares with other designers. The story will be about the sudden reappearance of an ex-boyfriend in her life, which sets her off on a search for true love. I guess we’ll have to wait for more details to know if it’s the ex or someone new who’s true.
Discovery of Romance will follow Trot Lovers (which follows Big Man), so that puts the premiere sometime in August.

I am so so so psyched. I really hope she signs on and hopefully the writer casts Lee Jin Wook too lol. Gotta say INR2 was my favourite among the 3 - hence the bias.
Yumi has this unique quirk that I like so much about her, she was so underused in God of the Workplace (then again, who could go up against Ms Kim?) and she needs to film more dramas than movies cos I can watch them :P
So so so excited!!!

I second you. I love love love her in INR2 together with Lee Jin Wook. I hope this project turns out to be good, though being broadcast in major network would tamp down the hotness level of the romance by 90%.
And I love INR2 better than INR3 (didn't watch INR1), a little sad it's not the favorite for a lot of people.

I triple the statements above. Didn't watch INR1 but I did prefer INR2 over INR3 (although I loved both). Jung Yumi + Lee Jin-wook = FIRE SMOLDERING/SPARKS FLYING! More than the tangible chemistry between the two leads (and not to mention the scrumptious & adorable Kim Jiseok), the writing in INR2 was evocative and poignant. I guess I love this writer!

INR2 was also my fave by far and JYM was totally adorable in it (even w/ her character having a temper).
Highly recommend the film "My Dear Desperado" for the acting and writing.

INR2 was the best of all three for me, too~ The leads had the BEST chemistry ever. Loved her in that and Que Sera Sera. She needs to do more dramas (although she's called the blue chip in the film industry), so I can have more shows to spazz over.

I would be excited, but KBS and romcoms don't seem to mix very well lately.

I was going to suggest naming the other series 'Hot to Trot' and this one 'Hot After Trot', but I suspect that this particularly Midwesternism will be lost on most 21st Century English speakers.

Yeah, "Hot After Trot" is lost on me, but here's an enthuiastic vote for changing "Trot Lovers" name to "Hot to Trot". Love it and that's what I'm callin' it from now on.
Quiet Thought~ I'm not sure about quiet, but I've noticed that many of your thoughts are amusing~ thanks for making me smile.

Love Jung Yumi, she is one of the better leading lady in dramaland. Love her movies too. I really want to watch "Our Sunhi."

I'd say more under-appreciated since she is a well regarded actress (just hasn't hit it big as much as other leading ladies).

Oh goody~ I like her in rom-coms, too. I'm okay with furniture designer... it suits her and at least it's not yet another shoe, purse or jewelry designer. But it sure would be nice to see a female architect, engineer, etc. for a change.
Looking forward to seeing who'll be the Leading Namja.

We did have an engineer in May Queen (she wanted to build ships)--that was a nice change. But more would be even nicer, lol.

Yep. I'm also waiting for a female scientist or engineer...who is just as stylish and feminine as all these designers too a girl can dream haha

YAY! I love Jung Yumi! Aw, I was just rewatching Que Sera Sera, my first and favorite of her dramas. Her and Eric were such a bizarre matchup that I wouldn't mind seeing them together again. Looks like they're both looking into different projects though, which is fine because that just means more dramas to get excited for! It really does seem like we have a lot of promising dramas coming this summer. Overall, I think we're in store for a pretty solid year.

Love her! Will watch anything she is in. Can't wait to see who her leading man will be. I must say, though, I would really love for her and Eric to have a reunion.
Or maybe we can get Gong Yoo on this because that still needs to happen in it's entirety (not just somewhat in a really sad movie to break the tension or for one episode in another show). I need it. Need it like air.

I so agree with needing Jung Yumi to pair up with Gong Yoo for a rom-com drama! Please drama gods make this happen. I absolutely loved their little storyline in the drama Cyrano Dating Agency.

They're so cute together. )': Not understanding why no one is jumping at the chance to have the both of them in their full-length drama as the leads. Talented, pretty people. C'mon son.

how come the second one is your least favourite. INR2012 is my fav among the three season. The story is not cliche. Her chemistry with lee jin wook is superb. Their kisses are REALLLLLLL!!!! Since that movie, Lee jin wook is also on my top fav actor. And they have superb second lead Kim Ji Seok, that also got my sympathy.
