Lee Jun-ki positively considering Joseon Gunman
by javabeans
Ooh, this is good news. It’s not finalized, so let’s all start wishing on stars and things.
It looks like I jumped the gun (…badum-ching) when I heard Han Joo-wan was cast as a lead in Joseon Gunman and thought that meant he was THE lead. Apologies for the error; that was totally my fault. But I don’t think it’s any bit of a disappointment to hear that Lee Jun-ki is in contention to take that lead role—of a young man in Joseon times who loses his father and sister and takes up the gun in revenge—because YES PLEASE. YES NOW. *grabby hands*
Joseon Gunman would put Lee Jun-ki back in familiar sageuk territory; some of his biggest hits have been historical projects, from the record-breaking film The King and the Clown that catapulted him to fame, to the popular hit Iljimae, to the underrated, sweet-with-a-dark-touch gem of a drama Arang and the Magistrate.
Coming from the PD of The Princess’s Man, this drama is set a little later into Joseon’s five-century span, taking place in the 19th century during a time of much modernization and growth. Aside from Lee Jun-ki and Han Joo-wan, another name in the mix as a potential castmate is actress Jeon Hye-bin (Queen of the Office, Queen Dowager Insoo), but no word yet on the role.
Joseon Gunman will be KBS’s Wednesday-Thursday drama following Golden Cross, and premieres in June.
And while no much other information is given about the story than the main tagline about our hero throwing away the sword and exchanging it for a gun, you know, I’m gonna go ahead and get excited anyway. Because remember this?

Watch it. Even though I was Lee Jun Ki's fan, I tried to avoid it because I thought it would somehow shatter my love for him if I saw him in a far out feminine look. Thankfully though, it only cemented my infatuation even more. ;)

Ahaaaa! Interesting.
I was wondering re the casting news of Han Joo Wan , impossible that the PD of Princess Man would cast someone so green like Han Joo Wan to be the drama lead for Joseon Gunman. He probably one of the main for this drama..
I love to see Lee Junki in this one. Please say yes...

I just marathoned Arang and the Magistrate last weekend (loved it!) and I don't like to be superficial, but a lot of my viewing time was spent looking at Lee Jun-ki and wondering how it was possible for one man to be so pretty. I mean, seriously, how is it possible? If Joseon Gunman gives me the opportunity to ponder this important philosophical point some more, then I am all for it.

He's actually less pretty in Arang than he used to be pre-military (seriously, the man looked like he should be cast as one of the Elves in The Lord of the Rings)....but 1000xhotter.
I'd be quite happy to spend a lot of time pondering pretty vs hot using his dramas as supporting evidence.

Seems that KBS will have a number of actor in their 30s leading their drama back to back this 2013.
Rating wise, they will have to compete with SBS young blood actor in their 20s like Lee Jong Suk and Lee Seung Gi.
But, this Joseon Gunman will head to head with Jo In Sung and Gong Hyo Jin's SBS drama right?
I doubt this drama PD will cast an idol actress for the lead... He will definitely cast real actress for Lee Jung Ki.

I can't believe the LJK fans predicted this. We were hoping/wishing for this when they were just planning the story. We already know he's perfect in action/thrillers. And he kills in sangeuks. And if it is the director of Princess Man (aka one of the Best Dramas Ever), I am 100% in.

It would make my year if they did, and they had a proper love line. One was really not enough, for that pairing! (sadly, kdrama re-pairings are kind of rare and I have a feeling these two might avoid being cast together for fear of scandal like Kim Nam-gil and Sohn Ye-jin)

He has been smart about choosing the right project so far. I totally have faith in him and the choices that he makes. He doesn't waste his time on projects when he sense trouble no matter how good the writer/director etc. Look at Faith and Age of Feelings for example.
I also love the fact that he doesn't go from one drama to the next right away but take his time and when he decides to go back to work he gives 200%.
I can not wait to see him back !!!

Well said, Kiara!
Yes, Jun Ki has a ton of sensibility and can sniff out script/production trouble from the very beginning (except maybe Hero). So proud of him....it often means that as a fan, I also don't have to suffer for him either, haha.
I feel like he also has a great strategy of self-exposure. He doesn't jump from one project to another as soon as he is done with one. He waits things out, deliberating over scripts....making his fans always wondering when his next project is coming....appearing in the news from time to time about possible roles....it just makes people like me crazy about him whenever there's any word on him, haha.
@ pogo: No matter the messiness of Age of Beatings, I would still have stuck with it for Oppa. My bias is enough that I could have even created the illusion that I loved the drama as well. ;)

If this series occurs in the 19th century I wonder what year(s)? The 1800's in Korean history went (in a nutshell) from isolationism, to transition, to reformation, and then [the events that led up] to Japan's annexation in 1904.
