Kolorful Palette: Stairway to heaven [I Need Romance 3]
by Fanderay
I don’t know if it’s the soft lighting, the pastel colors, or the side-by-side sneakers, but this scene reminds me of one of those romantic greeting cards with little kids holding holding flowers and wearing over-sized clothing. Somehow that seems fitting for these two. They’ve decided to stop thinking like grown-ups and do what makes them happy, which is a childlike notion that a lot of people would probably benefit from trying out now and then.
(As usual, click the drawing for full size!)
I think a big part of the reason I find Wan so appealing as a character is that he has always been consistently childlike and straightforward in his thinking, as if he never changed from the person Joo-yeon taught him to be. There’s a certain purity and naivety about him that seems foolhardy, but incredibly admirable at the same time. I’m sure a lot of us wish we could be more like him, and not let our brains get in the way. It’s not just about romance, but living in the now, and as an over-thinker myself this drama acted as an excellent reminder to make sure I enjoy the present.
This final episode was pretty anti-climactic since almost everything had already been resolved, but I found myself not caring since I enjoyed all the characters so much I was just happy to watch them be happy. All those dramas out there that get extensions should just do an episode like this. It certainly beats dragging out the conflict and making us all lose interest.
Sung Joon playing a musician is practically a cliche at this point, but it’s a role that suits him well, and I was extremely pleased that he finally did a song in the last few episodes. I almost drew the following image this week, but I couldn’t resist the pretty colors of the stairway-kiss, and I figured you guys would appreciate the fan-service as we say goodbye to another great drama.
Overall, this drama was a pleasure to watch (which isn’t too surprising based on how much I liked its predecessors) and I’d be happy if they kept churning them out every year or so. I’m typically pretty anti-sequel, but these particular dramas don’t seem to have much in common other than their maturity and their titles. It was particularly nice this time around to see that nice guys don’t always finish last. Take heed drama-land!
It’s always sad to see another drama come to an end (unless it’s terrible, in which case I don’t usually make it to the end) but let’s hope that there are some fantastic new dramas waiting for us in the wings. With pretty scenes to draw!

Love the picture and agree with all of your thoughts on the drama!
One request I would make for this segment(?), though, would be maybe to include the title of the drama in the title of the post. I'm very spoilerphobic, so I'd appreciate a hint about which posts are safe to enjoy (like this one!) and which to stay away from until I watch that drama. Just a thought. :)

Thanks for sharing another fantastic painting! For some reason, seeing people kiss while on stairs makes it looks more romantic. The one thing this drama taught me is that sometimes you just have to go with your heart and stop thinking and analyzing things. This was a great drama from beginning to end. I started worrying about the Hee Jae subplot since it started to drag in the middle but thankfully it picked up in the end and turned out to be quiet moving. I guess I'm gonna need to work my way backwards since this is the first one of the series I have seen. On to INR2!

That is exactly what i did! Done downloading INR2 and sampled a few episodes and I'm hooked. I tried to watch INR1 though when it aired but lost interest after ep 3.

You may prefer the 2nd lead, but don't worry, the "jerk" is still likable and it's a great show. I'm sure you'll like it :) The opening scene is rather memorable and comical; you'll be hooked!

I love your art like usual, but I was totally fooled by the title this time. I thought it would be artwork from the drama Stairway to Heaven haha

Fantastic. I might be the only one but in addition to your comments on why you picked the scene you pick, I'd like to see some of the technical stuff. Such as what medium or mediums you use, and maybe if possible once a month or so a video so we can watch as you make art.
I may boy be an artist myself, I can barely draw stick figures, but two of my best friends are and I love to listen to them talk about their art and even more I love to watch them work.

Hi Sajen!
I did the pencil sketch on paper, scanned it, and did the rest in Corel Painter with a Wacom tablet. On my blog some of my posts include progress shots (like this one: http://kolorfulpalette.wordpress.com/2011/09/18/the-musical-episode-3-wallpaper/ )
I'll definitely keep your comment in mind for future weeks. I've been trying out some different methods/workflow and haven't been as good about making iterative save-points, but I'll try to do a post that shows my progress some time in the next month :)

Nice pic but maybe next time you should name the drama the scene comes from...
I thought this was from Stairway to Heaven (which I haven't seen) but when I saw the actor, I realized it was much more recent. I haven't watched this drama but I intend to.

Thanks for sharing another painting with us!
Like others mentioned, I haven't seen the drama Stairway to Heaven yet. Although I recall it being referenced or briefly mentioned at times on the Dramabeans website. So when I first read the post title Stairway to Heaven, I assumed that it was a picture from that drama.
I'm so glad that you were inspired to create artwork from scenes in I Need Romance 3 and use the characters Joo-yeon and Wan as muses.
