Jung Kyung-ho, Ryu Soo-young, Cha In-pyo for Endless Love

With shooting set to begin next month, we’ve gotten a flurry of confirmations for new SBS weekend drama Endless Love. Jung Kyung-ho (Heartless City) will take on the main lead, and Ryu Soo-young (Two Weeks, Rascal Sons) is being courted to play his brother, a character Yeon Jung-hoon briefly considered but passed on (yes, there’s hope for you Vampire Prosecutor 3 holdouts, yet!). The story, set in 1980s Korea against a political and economic backdrop, will revolve around the love (or loves, as this is a 50-episode melodrama we’re talking about) of a female lead, Hwang Jung-eum (Secret).

Jung Kyung-ho will play the younger of two brothers raised in a household with a struggling fisherman for a father. He’s been in love with Hwang Jung-eum, his hyung’s former flame, since he was a child – and he vows to love her until the day he dies. In contrast with his brother, he’s the rebellious son. He was never a good student and was in brawls so often, he was nicknamed Legendary Fist in high school.

Ryu Soo-young is very close to taking on the role of the ruthlessly ambitious older brother. Embittered by his poor upbringing, he dreams of (and appears well on his way towards) becoming a great leader. He’s viewed as a potential son-in-law by Cha In-pyo (Kye Baek, Daemul), a powerful general intent on becoming the next president.

Cha In-pyo will do whatever it takes to accomplish his goal, even if it means marrying off his only daughter to Ryu Soo-young – it’s unclear, but he either sees him as a threat (potential rival) or a boost (indomitable ally) to his candidacy, and wants to create familial ties with the up-and-comer to effectively squash the risk he poses or to solidify their relationship.

There’s so much news regarding the male cast it’s easy to forget that Endless Love will focus on Hwang Jung-eum’s love life. Story TV (Jang Ok-jung, Live By Love) will produce, Na Yeon-sook (East of Eden) will write and Lee Hyun-jik (Warrior Baek Dong-soo) will direct.

Endless Love will air after Angel Eyes concludes, sometime in June.

I had the exact same reaction :) After Heartless City he has been added to my VERY short list of actors I must watch in everything they do, even if I skip every scene they're not in. *cough* Jung Il Woo in Golden Rainbow *cough*.

Ah what are you talking about, she's Hwang Jung Eum, you know ^-^

Like, if they have to choose K actresses who can headline a drama about female main lead, she's obviously one of first choices.

but jung kyung ho can make a connection with anyone and make it believable, i mean he surely did that with Nam gyuri who was serviceable when she acted opposite doctor's son in cruel city...

but with hwang jung eum, she will give as much as what kyung ho oppa will give. she has earned her right as being the go-to-actress that can bring in the acting either by being funny (high kick 2) or serious (golden time) or tears (secret love)...
Pretty amazing how far she has come from her idol days. but then she is one lady who works hard, doesn't complain and ppushes through whatever...

Not to mention that she's practically already tried every genres out there. Just from her varied filmography I can see she's one of those that always wants to challenge herself, does different every time, never stereotype herself with one genre. She also doesn't afraid to get dirty & ugly if needed. She's also very prolific.

And she's also very dynamic & funny in variety shows lol.

I don't understand this, Hwang Jung-eum is one of the best young actresses of her age group, and versatile enough to work across drama and comedy - 'dark' will not be a problem for her.

If Jung Kyung-ho could sell a connection with Nam Gyuri in Cruel City, HJE is an even easier sell. As long as the writing is good, of course (by no means a guarantee in weekend dramas, as we saw in 2013)

Jung Kyung Ho + the writer from East of Eden?
Our male lead is so not getting out of this drama alive!

I try to lower my expectations because of the writer but the story sounds interesting, and with Jung Kyung ho, it could be great!

Is it just me or does Cha In-pyo seem too young looking to play a guy old enough to have a daughter of marrying age?

I thought the same and also that it may not be enough of an age gap between father and potential son-in-law. But, may be he was a young dad. I have only seen Cha In Pyo in Running Man and love him so I am looking forward to seeing him in a drama.

Finally an actor that is around my age! Thank you drama gods!

There's only a 12 year difference between the two men (46 vs. 34) , but perhaps the bride is in her early 20s.

But back to this drama, not even Jung Kyung-ho could make me watch at 50 episode melo with Hwang Jung-eum thats also a weekend drama which means makjang galore....NOOOOO! But i hope this boosts Jung Kyung-ho's popularity even more!

I haven't seen Heartless City, and I never finished Smile, You, but there was a bedroom/basement (?) scene where his unrequited love (Seo Jung Gyung) rejected him and his acting surprised me. The expression on his face and his response/delivery made me thought, 'Oh, this guy's really GOOD?'.

That was the moment he won me over.

I'm actually more excited that Yeon Jung-hoon won't be in this, than anything else, really. If he's not gonna be in it, then he can do VP3! At least, I hope so!

Other than that, I like Jung Kyung-ho and Ryu Soo-young. Both are great actors, and I can totally see Jung Kyung-ho playing a gangster-type character thanks to Heartless City. He was badass in that. Is his character a gangster?

And I like Hwang Jung-eum. She was fantastic in Secret.

Not too familiar with Cha In-pyo, but he is a good actor. Is he playing HGE's character's dad? Or not?

I don't think Jung Kyung Ho's character is the main lead - it's not like Yeon Jung Hoon would have been offered a supporting role.

But jung kyung ho has headlined all of his dramas since time between dog and wolf and the other actor ryu Soo young has either done second leads or larger family dramas so I don't see him as the lead. Maybe that's why yeon Jung hoon turned it down.

I think both will be equal male leads. In both of their news, there weren't any mentions on who's the 1st male lead, just that HJE is considering to be the female lead. Sometimes if a drama lean heavily on the story of a character, then only he/she herself is the 1st lead, while some characters around him/her shares equal ground.

Both JKH and RSY are no strangers to male lead roles. I think it'll be up to viewers taste and writer's decision later on who among both will get female lead or features more heavily.

It's a 50 ep drama so I think everyone will get the equal share of screentime but if thinking logically then JKH would be the main lead, I've only seen him play 2nd lead in TBDAW and MISA which was a long time when he was a newbie, after that he has always played movies and dramas alike as main leads, for dramas Ja Myung Gu, Smile You, Heartless City, in movies, Herb, Gangster High, Running Turtle (where he acted alongside Kim Yeon Sook who is a very big name movie actor), Fasten Your Seatbelt, and his upcoming movie Manhole, cannot say the same about RSY, he's mostly known as a second lead, I love both of them btw, but just want to point out that JKH would not have taken the role if he wasn't the lead, YJH must have taken himself out because maybe VP 3 directors called him up, if it is the case then he would definitely choose the role that got him massive popularity, or he might have not liked the script for this drama while JKH might have found it interesting, either way I hope it's becoz of VP 3.

I think you're right - it is highly unlikely that Jung Kyung-ho would take himself back to second lead territory, and while I definitely think Ryu Soo-young will have an important role, it'll be a bit like Ojakkyo Brothers (where all four brothers including RSY had their own storylines, but the main love story was for Joo-won).

I need something for the weekends anyway since Emergency Couple and In A Good Way will end soon. Sigh... I will miss Choi Jin Hyuk's gorgeousness and acting skills!! Mostly the gorgeousness...

Omo, Jung Kyung Ho!
He's taking a new role, mean his back is okay now, right?

This drama sure lure me in with its actor and actress casting. But the writer and director still make me hesitated to jump I'm 50 episode long weekend drama.

I just hope, they don't waste all good talents they get, I especially have a soft spot for Jung Kyung Ho. He's just wonderful as doctor son, that I want his career keep go higher and higher after Cruel City. The same to Yoon Hyun Min, *sigh* when uri cutie Soo can get his first male role?

And wow! Cha In Pyo is still handsome as ever. What kind fountain of youth he's been drinking? Its kinda jarring for me to think he'll be Ryu Soo-young father in law in this drama, except they put a lot of make up on him to make Cha In-pyo looks older which I think is a treason for hiding his hotness.

Does running a well-established website such as yours take a lot of work?
I'm completely new to running a blog however
I do write in my journal daily. I'd like to start
a blog so I can easily share my experience and thoughts online.
