Three Days teases presidential assassination
by girlfriday
Okay, so it’s not exactly a happy thing to tease us with, but you’re gonna need some danger if you want to kick off the pulse-pounding action. Here’s our first peek at SBS’s next Wednesday-Thursday drama Three Days, a tense thriller about a president and his bodyguard, and an assassination plot that sends them into a tailspin for seventy-two very long hours.
Three Days will be a 16-episode drama and comes from writer Kim Eun-hee of Sign and Ghost, and PD Shin Kyung-soo of Tree With Deep Roots. Sohn Hyun-joo (Empire of Gold) plays the president who suddenly disappears amidst the sound of gunshots, and Park Yoochun (I Miss You) plays the Blue House guard who risks his life to rescue him.
I love the trailer, so that’s a huge relief. There’s nothing worse than being excited for a show because it sounds so good on paper, and then having your hopes dashed by the first teaser with its lameness. It cuts together familiar images of the most infamous American presidential assassination plots, and then introduces our fictional Korean president arriving with Blue House guards at a public event, where a sniper sets his sights on them. There’s only one line from Yoochun, chillingly simple: “March 5. The president dies.”
Three Days follows You From Another Star and premieres March 5.

Considering how many women are falling for Uhm Force (Can We Love) and Choi Jin Hyuk (Heirs, Emergency Man), despite their more pronounced scars, I would venture that not many people care.
Before Emergency Man, not many people even realized CJH had bad skin. A lot of stars cover it with heavy make-up, while some choose not too.
Regardless, there are many more things that make an actor/role fascinating and disregarding an entire production over something so superficial, just seems odd.

Seriously. It fits the part as well. The no nonsense hair, no heavy makeup, some flaws... A bodyguard shouldn't have time to put on his BB cream and pink lipgloss like other kdrama characters. Not even a fan of his, but picking on scars is just silly. God forbid he doesn't have flawless skin.

I instead like them to show a face without manipulating it digitally...
I don't think acne scars are manly nor beautiful, but neither they are important enough to have them erased. Nobody's perfect and this actor is attractive enough even with them.

Yeah it's a beauty mark not a wart -- warts are way more pronounced and not very flattering.
Actually, alot of people call that beauty mark on the nose as an attractive quality (to the point where they thought JJH got it surgically done which i doubt). Han Ga In has something similar on her nose and that's what she's known for, aside from her bad acting.

Theodore Roosevelt got shot while running for president in 1912. He was on his way up to the podium to make a campaign speech, so he just buttoned his jacket and finished the speech before he saw a doctor. Teddy was like that.

That is the same opinion of people regarding medical dramas but Good Doctor fared well last year (and their first teaser was boring). Not because all previous dramas with the same genre failed does not mean all succeeding dramas with the same genre will also fail. You have to look at other factors such as storyline, the drama/s it is competing with, etc. Most importantly viewers are unpredictable.

medical drama usually get high rating like brain, golden time. so i'm not surprise good doctor also doing well. it's just medical top team didn't do well. i don't remember any action drama get high rating except iris and i think it's because LBH the drama doing so well.

Well 'Three Days' is not really a full on action drama, it's more off suspense/thriller, crime investigation, mystery etc. Like writer Kim Eun Hee's past dramas.. And she also wrote Sign and Phantom which both did well and both has same genre as Three Days.. She's famous for writing this type of dramas, she has never written a romance drama.. Sign's ratings even reaches 25-27% that time..

Ratting is not everything. I think she is a brilliant writer since her story is not ordinary and it's quite refreshing among the other drama. even thought ghost didn't get a satisfying rating but the story is so great and unpredictable. for me a good drama is a drama that we can't guess what will happened next. hope that there will be more romantic story with 3 days since it's Chunnie there. I can't imagining him in drama without romantic scene. hehehehe

During the airing of Ghost do you know its competition?! It's Gaskital/Bridal Mask which pretty much raked in the rating at that time, having an average rating of 18% during its run. It was an action/thriller drama set during the Japanese occupation, a period that's rarely successful rating wise. This two dramas were not romantic but they did fairly well! The drama gods are fickle, and rating success is not guaranteed by basing it on a popular genre alone. and What is are the popular genre by the way?!

Maybe because this is a 30 sec trailer and not everyone (specially global audience) knows Korean Histroy deeply enough (or would find time researching) to catch the premise?
It's a trailer so you intend to make the audience understand what the main plot will be about in a glance. Here the premise is President assassination so here they relate 2-3 historical reference that immediately rings a bell to the audience.. not a big deal using American president i think..so..

Are you an US citizen? If not, I find it very telling that you find this as "no big deal using American president" by the PD to help frame this drama's story. Also, since this is a SK drama, I find it more fitting to use pictures of a former SK president who was assassinated to enlighten its younger viewing audience since it appears using actual historical figures is a prerequisite for the viewing audience based on the inclusion of said photos.

Well i am not really worried about the storyline or how the script will turn out because the writer of this drama is Writer Kim Eun Hee.. And she's good with this type of genre of dramas, she really got me with Sign since i love that drama and i do think Phantom is really good as well.. So i trust her writing skills.. And i do believe this drama will be epic (well... i'm hoping) since this is a collaboration of Sign writer & Tree With Deep Roots director which is both a really great drama..

I am definitely looking forward to this...since I'm a big Sohn Hyun-joo fan. I love thrillers, and with the political aspect thrown in...that makes it seem more intriguing. I'm even more happier that a great writer like Kim Eun-hee is at the helm of this...since I liked Sign and Ghost. I'm looking forward to Yoochun and Park Ha-sun as well...definitely interesting casting throughout. And LOL to whoever said the acne marks on Yoochun's face were distracting...now that I rewatched the trailer, that's all I can see ;P
I don't really get those that keep comparing this to You From Another Star...totally different genres, and I think it's an all-star cast worthy of the time slot.
To whoever said to stick with historically "correct" presidents from the Korean past...I beg to differ. There's no set rule saying it's gotta be that way...it IS a fictional drama, not a documentary! The montage of assassinations in the trailer show American ones probably because those typically come to mind first on the topic. Plus, I don't think the South Korean govt would appreciate showing documented assassinations of their former leaders...

"Plus, I don’t think the South Korean govt would appreciate showing documented assassinations of their former leaders…"
Why would the SK government care if they did? If its a part of history (and honestly I am not familiar with any assassinations or attempts on SK leaders so I don't know anyways) people are usually interested in stuff like that, especially if it has something to do with their own people, on their own soil. Hence a TV show about a fictional SK president being targeted for assassination and the one tough guy trying to stop it from happening, in Korea.
I think it's just a matter of JFK and Lincoln both being synonymous with the ways they were killed that's known about the world over.
I don't know why the hell Reagan is in there, though, LOL. All I think about when I think of his assassination attempt is Jodie Foster and her crazy fan.

I would think it could possibly be a touchy issue for the current President, because she lost both her mother (first attempt) then her father in that particular way. That's who I had in mind. But you bring up a legitimate point...it is a part of history.
As for Reagan...probably included because it was the most recent attempt in US history. I'd have to concur that what you said comes to mind as well, lol ;)

But no, of course it's a man. SIGH.

Is there a reason the assisgnations shown were both of American presidents? Has a Korean (North or South) president never been assinated?
That's acne (acne scars)? I thought it was an injury or something. I guess Asians can also get acne though most seem to have that perfectly-smooth-like-a-baby's-bottom skin.
I watch at least the first two episodes of anything that comes out, if I get past that I will finish watching the show until it ends even if it sucks by that time. I think this is going to be a hard sell but if it is pulled off right I might watch it.
