Seo In-gook and Wang Ji-won star in drama short

Here’s something nice and quick to throw on your to-watch list: Seo In-gook (Master’s Sun, Answer Me 1997) is headlining a short 5-episode miniseries that’s being produced for cable network Dramacube, which is a station that mostly houses reruns of primetime dramas. He’ll be starring opposite Wang Ji-won, who’s currently playing the chic and prickly frenemy Oh Se-ryung on tvN’s I Need Romance 3 (she was also one of the good docs in Good Doctor).

The miniseries is called What Kind of Goodbye, and of course the built-in ambiguity is that the word for goodbye and hello are the same, so the title could go either way. It’s about two people who meet at the end of their lives, and the one very special day they share together. It’ll be the television debut of director Won Tae-yeon, who directed the movie Story Sadder Than Sadness (Gee, are you maybe a melodrama?) starring Kwon Sang-woo, Lee Bo-young, and Lee Beom-soo in 2009, also called More Than Blue.

Seo In-gook stars as Ahn Young-mo (a name pun for the anyeong/hello/goodbye in the title), and the character description is both oddly specific and totally vague: he’s quirky and sexy, and Seo In-gook will actually be playing two characters in the drama. There’s no explanation for WHY he plays two characters, so we’ll just have to watch to figure out if he’s a twin or a doppelgänger or something else entirely.

Wang Ji-won plays a woman who was betrayed by the man she loved, and then meets Young-mo in the final moments of her life. There’s also no clarification on why it’s the end of their lives, but it sounds like a potentially touching romance. Maybe I just like the idea of a day-long love and how much more it means if it comes at the end.

What Kind of Goodbye premieres February 17.

Glossy kissable lips!

'Final moments of their lives', that's just boldly makjang, but I hope they'll focus more on the love- and the meeting-story. They should call this drama Aloha; hello and goodbye in one word.
Wang Ji Won, I really want to like her, so bring it on.

I was thinking the exact same thing, they should call is Aloha. It would be easier to explain...

The lips that can make a chaste kiss looks super hot, like the first kiss in AM94, yup.

I personally feel like AM97 is hugely underrated (it was so cute, and kinda realistic for a drama imo), and yes... DOSE LIPS!

Agree with you. ^^ AM97 is hugely underrated. Which is bad because it was such a good drama.

I don't think it was underrated. It's widely loved by a lot of people. It won awards and made huge stars out of Jung Eun Ji and Seo In Gook. It also broke cable ratings records and paved the way for AM1994. It's in my top 3 favorite dramas. I think I've seen it 4 times now. 8P

I don't know about underrated, I would say oversahdowed. I absolutely LOVE AM1997 and when AM1994 started, for the first 6 or so eps, I thought it was as good as 97, in a "same but different" kind of way. THen it got bloated and silly and the whole CB/Trash insanity kicked off in earnest and I zoned out except for the YJ/SCP pairing. When that happened, I rewatched 1997 to remind myself why it's such an awesome series and so much better than 1994 ended up being.

This sounds so interesting yet really depressing. I'm not sure which side to lean on since I love one and hate the other.

I guess I'll go by reviews again. Let someone else feel the pain (or joy) and then save myself (or not).

Sounds like a nice premise! I find both actors engaging enough so I will check out the first ep and see how it goes!

Hmm. . ..so this is new fantasy. To have those lips be the last thing I see on earth. Yup. I'll take it.

I have avoided Story sadder than sadness like the plague and if this director is gonna stick to this genre I dont think him and I will ever have anything to do with each other. Real life's f'd up as it is, do I have to see it relived on screen too? Geez!

Oooooooo, if you like day long romances, Girlfriday, you should definitely check out the movie, Before Sunrise. It's pretty much the opposite of a kdrama in that there's no melodramatics, special effects, or pretty boys. And it's an indie arthouse type film about two random people who meet on a train, starting walking around the city chatting about anything and everything, just for one day. And of course, they fall in love. Such a great film!

The entire Before trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight) is the greatest thing in Hollywood romances of the last twenty years, imo.

Wow, this sounds way too depressing so, despite Seo In-gook being in it, I probably won't watch it.

I can think of a lot of interesting scenarios for "the last moment of their lives," but not that many that are within a mini-series budget and allow time for melodrama. The zombie apocalypse, for instance, tends to be too tense a situation for romance.

I know this sounds depressing, but I'm pretty sure I can endure it because I love Seo Inguk. So yeah, I'll watch this because of him. \o/

I mean this is brand new genre and brand new character for him. So I'll watch my boy act in melodrama. :D

The last still is both of them at a bridge, maybe "final moment of their lives" means they (or one of them) were contemplating suicide which is when they meet. idk

I'm putting my money on young-mo looking like her first love who betrayed her. (if I had any money) the doppelganger part is coincidental. (yep, that's some imaginary money well spent)

It airs on Mondays for 5 weeks. I hope this series is recapped 'cause it's so short. But also because I can't find a site that plans to sub it in English and it looks interesting.

Oh well! I'll keep checking.

Hey,

If anyone's interested, it's on Loen Entertainment's Youtube Channel and it's subbed. Really short and sweet and Seo In-Gook was quirky indeed!

Cheers.

WOW! That was really good! Short, sweet, not really sad, cute, thought provoking, a little confusing in last ep; which is open to some interpretation, but mainly really good.

Thank you so much for telling me how tollok it up, but it is under the name 'Another Parting'.

Watch it!
