Ryu Seung-ryong and Lee Hyun-woo courted for suspense thriller
by girlfriday
Director Choo Chang-min (Gwanghae, the Man Who Became King) is lining up the casting offers for his next project, and began with hot commodity leading man Ryu Seung-ryong (Gift of Room 7) for a possible Gwanghae reuinion. The new movie, called Seven Years of Night, is a suspense thriller about a killer, and his son who becomes the target of revenge. Lee Hyun-woo (Covertly, Grandly) is currently being wooed to play the son.
The movie is an adaptation of a novel by Jung Yoo-jung (28, Shoot My Heart), that begins with the death of a small-town girl. Lee Hyun-woo is the son of the man who killed her (accidentally), and grows up shunted from extended family member to family member, and ostracized wherever he goes for being the son of a murderer. He finally ends up completely alone, and returns to his hometown where he runs into Ryu Seung-ryong, a novelist who was once his father’s employee.
Ryu Seung-ryong takes a fatherly attachment to the boy and raises him for seven years, and they purposely hide out to live a quiet life away from other people. But one day the son becomes the target of a revenge mission, and starts to receive mysterious packages in the mail. Among them is a copy of a novel that Ryu Seung-ryong wrote, and it describes the original murder of the young girl seven years ago, in curiously sharp detail. Aaack. RUN.
I’m not entirely sure who the bad guy is, but if it’s surrogate-dad-turned-killer, this movie sounds terrifying. I hope they can manage to lock in these two actors, because they’d be great together, and Ryu Seung-ryong can go from squishy heartwarming dad to spine-chilling villain at the drop of a hat. But… he’s not the bad guy, right? Say it ain’t so.
Seven Years of Night is still in early casting, and there’s no word yet on a release date.

Lee Hyun-woo is the only reason I stuck to covertly grandly till the end. But this one actually sounds so damn good. The story is chilling... I almost want RSR to be the bad guy cz that just makes for some really amazing story telling.
Don't usually get excited for movies - this one is an exception.

I guess it wouldn't make sense if it were the son who's behind this?
I hope there's enough projects coming to Lee Hyun Woo that he can pick some good ones.

If you had told me they were playing birth father and son in the movie I would not be surprised... they look quite alike in that picture.

Ryu Seung Ryong! I still can't erase his villain role in Painter Of The Wind and his performance in Miracle in Room No.7.
The plot looks interesting. Can't wait!

I never understood why people go for the kids in their revenges. How are they ever remotely related to their parents' errors? I don't see how unless they can control what their parents think and do. What the heck is this logic of blame & punishment inheritance?

You can hurt your enemy the most when you go for their most precious thing. More often than not it's the children or other blood.

Oh so it's okay to harm an innocent so that you can get your peace? I'm not directing this at you. I'm just disgusted by that sentiment in general. It just despicable behavior in my eyes.

Something to do with the limits of human emotional imagination. In any event, it is part of traditional cultures all over the world.

Traditional =/= right or sensible. I understand the sentiment but I detest it. So bad.
I hate it when innocents get harmed as collateral damage to something that is none of their fault or business. Like, it's so unfair!

Ryu Seung Ryong has such amazing talent and versatility that saying he is on a par with the best actors in the world is not an exaggeration by any means. He can make anything worth the watch!

I would love it if he turned out to be the villain, which means he raised him just to kill him later. A twisted version of Hansel and the witch, fattening the former just to eat him later. Huuuh.

I saw the pictures in the header and I was like "they should play fatter and son." Then i read the article. Called it! I hope they both take it just because they look the part. I'll never watch it myself, though. I'm a scardy cat.

I love how lee hyun woo is a sniper kn covertly and he will be a hacker in that drama with woo bin, and this one also seems exciting. But i wish he could also take lead in romance, he is still young and it will be such eye candy to see him in it with his innocent profile
