Lee Yubi joins Tailor for her big screen debut
by awcoconuts
Lee Yubi (Gu Family Book, Nice Guy) is set to appear on the big screen for the first time in Tailor, a Joseon-era movie about the artisans responsible for outfitting the royal family. She’ll replace newcomer Yeon Ye-ji, who suddenly stepped down from the role of royal concubine and rival to the queen.
The star-studded sageuk film will “combine elements of love, talent, jealousy and desire.” Yoo Yeon-seok (Answer Me 1994’s Chilbongie) plays the king, who will juggle his relationships with the queen, portrayed by Park Shin-hye (Heirs), and his concubine. (Baller!)
Han Seok-kyu (Paparotti) stars as the master tailor whose position is challenged by a young upstart, played by Go Soo (Empire of Gold), with genius clothes-making ability. He is discovered and brought to the palace by a nobleman, portrayed by Ma Dong-seok (Shut Up Flower Boy Band).
The king and queen get mixed up in some complicated affairs due to the garments made by the team of royal tailors. I’ve got my reservations about the story, but plots have sounded worse and have been successful. If anyone can pull off the conflict between the central characters–the innately talented young designer daring to reach out of his class to make clothes for the royals and the established tailor who has serviced the royal family for decades–Go Soo and Han Seok-kyu can.
The film will be produced by Bidangil (A Werewolf Boy, The Chaser) and helmed by Lee Won-suk (Men: An Operating Manual). Shooting begins February 21.

Tae-seo and Chung-jo?!? Gosh that's just SO wrong because I can still hear hear screaming 'Oraboni' from the time when Kang-chi attacked TS in the forest.
I wish I could talk about chemistry but I guess I'll just see instead. GFB is way too vivid in my head still. On another note, didn't know they are yet to start filming. Thought this was half way through already. It sounds like a different story and I'm excited to see PSH in a Sageuk, so can't wait!

Didn't Park Shin-hye already do Bichunmoo, way back in the pre-YAB days? But I'm glad to see her talking on a sageuk as a lead actress.
And I adore Lee Yubi enough that I can probably buy that storyline with Yoo Yoon-seok even if the part sounds like it's a smaller one (with all those veterans and YYS/PSH also in the cast...)

YESSSSSSSS!!! Finally, another acting project from her!
ok, it's not a lead role (and part of me so wished she was cast in that Lee Jong-seok medical drama) but the concept does sound interesting and personally I'll be thrilled to see two of my favourite 1990-ers as rivals (Heirs did the impossible and actually reduced my love of PSH, I am more than ready for her to win some of it back). And since Lee Yubi has more than proven that she can handle sageuks, I look forward to this even more.

You know, your first sentence is very much a likelihood.
But say what you will of PSH, at least she'll be better onscreen than the leading lady of Lee Yubi's last sageuk.

Uh I think PSH's a good actress. She was wonderful in Flower Boy Next Door. Even if Lee Yubi's acting is better than hers, I don't think she'll blow her out of the water.

I think she's a good actress too! FBND is one of my favourite dramas ever, and I think she gets a lot of unfair flak for being so popular.
But it depends on the role - if she brings her A game like she did in FBND, then we could have two great women to watch onscreen, which is what I want.
otoh if her character is basically Cha Eun Sang in a hanbok, then Lee Yubi basically chewing up the screen with her in any scenes they have together, is a possibility all right.

I think it's unfair to immediately call out something like that without looking at the final product first. It's uncalled for. Even if you don't think Park Shin Hye's acting is effective, to dismiss her as if she's never going to improve is just plain close-minded. Stick to critiquing works that are already out there for the world to see.

I have always felt that an actor/actress can do only so much depending on how well a character is written and directed. Shinhye is a good enough actress with great screen presence to do extremely well on any platform.
If she can impress everyone with her some minutes of performance in Gift for room 7........ She can surely do it when a meatier role is at hand.
It would be fair to any artist to see each role on its merit rather than from a place of being entrenched in a preconceived expectations or notions.

I recognise that, which is exactly why I said I didn't like her as much as I usually do in Heirs but I'm hoping this project will be different.
There are actors who are good enough to transcend subpar writing and direction to emerge as good, if not great, performances, but they are few and far between.

Pogo, my comment was made in general on this topic and not as a criticism on any person's comment. I am a firm believer in everyone's right to have an opinion.....opposing or otherwise. I always respected yours since long time ago and make it a point to read them. :)

haha yeah, no worries.
PSH has generally had more interesting movie choices than drama choices even when she took smaller roles (Cyrano Dating Agency, Miracle in Cell No. 7) and now even though this sounds like another supporting movie role for her with Go Soo and Han Seok-kyu as the headlining stars, I'm optimistic that it'll have good parts for both ladies.

Sageuks with their limited romance physicality might be a good fit for PSH. I don't think she's a bad actress but her clear aversion to being touched is a hindrance in romance dramas.

I love this girl. I don't watch GFB but love her and Kwangsoo in Nice Guy. She sure got all hot oppa siblings in dramas.

I can see her nailing the role concubine. She's was good in GFB and another saguek is soo fitting for her. She's still young so I'm fine with as many saguek as she wants to do!

I'm totally fine with it. I'm sure the moment she's on screen playing his concubine I'll forget all about Chung jo and Tae seo. In fact, this maybe odd but I remember seeing one picture of them during GFB shooting, it was bts sort of thing, they where standing together facing the camera. I found them cute together tbh.

Yay!! Yoo Yeon Seok and Lee Yubi together again! :D
They are so charismatic and talented. She won me over in GFB, I was watching the whole thing just because of her,...so I didn't pay much attention to his oppa, haha!! It was in Reply 1994 that I discovered him, he was absolutely awesome, in every aspect ;P
Love them both! I won't miss this movie *-*

yaay!~ didn't care much for GFB so the fact that she's getting paired up with YYS sounds good to me. just hope that PHY doesn't butcher the chemistry with this one. she was good in FBND! but failed imo in heirs *shudder* mostly due yo bow that character was written though. can't wait to see Yoobi in action again!. kukuku~

Kind of over the requisite 'queen and concubine(s) dueling for king's affections' sageuk plotline. I tend to want the females to get up mid-story and go, "Forget this shiz. Wtf made your dick so special?" and just end the angst.
Really excited to see Lee Yubi and Han Seok-kyu in this. <3
