Lee Shi-young courted for revenge drama Golden Cross
by girlfriday
There’s still no word yet on a new hero for the revenge-driven hero’s journey Golden Cross, but we’ve got movement on the leading lady front with Lee Shi-young (The Webtoon), who’s being courted to play the heroine. It’s been two years since she was in Wild Romance, so it’d be nice to have her back in dramaland for a meaty role (let’s hope that’s what this is). Also joining the drama is Jung Bo-seok (Goddess of Fire Jung-yi), who will play her father and the villain of the story.
Golden Cross is the newest project from the writer of Gaksital and the PD of Be Strong Mr. Kim and Mary Stayed Out All Night, set to be the next Wednesday-Thursday drama for KBS’s spring slate. It’s a classic revenge story about a man who loses his father and sister, and becomes a prosecutor to seek justice. Kang Ji-hwan was offered the role but he’s since signed on to Big Man instead, so the casting search continues.
Lee Shi-young is up to play the heroine, who’s also a prosecutor. There isn’t much detail on her character, but the setup with her father is messed up. Jung Bo-seok plays her dad, a man she respects dearly, but he’s also a villain with two faces who keeps his past hidden from his loving daughter.
He grew up watching his widowed mother get mistreated by her bank manager and vowed revenge, eventually becoming a son-in-law to a finance minister. He falls in love with the hero’s little sister and ends up accidentally killing her (creeeepy), and then uses her father to cover up his crime, effectively destroying the entire family. Yikes, no wonder the hero wants revenge. Han Eun-jung (Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child) has also signed on, but her role is shrouded in mystery for now.
Golden Cross will follow Age of Feeling in April.

That is one hell of a twisted villain and I have full faith in Jung Bo-seok to deliver the maximum creepiness and thrills in his character. I know I will be utterly fascinated with him.

So weird that there are all of these serious dramas coming out when spring is starting. And we had a good dose of romcoms during the cold. :)

So completely off topic, but that is some SPECTACULAR makeup! This mustve been said a thousand times elsewhere (and maybe here) but I need to know what korean brands of cosmetics I need to spend all my monies on.

Beautiful picture but as long as we are off topic.... I think comparison testing shows that brands/expense etc make little difference with makeup. Here good skin, great lighting and a little airbrushing contributed to such a pretty picture. Save your money. Take care of your skin, and smile!

On the plus side for Lee Shi-young, she's so intensely athletic that she might be able to go without sleep for twenty episodes without stress acne. With a lot of leading ladies, you can time the episode by the color of the bags under their eyes and run a betting pool on when the first pimple appears.
A helluva lot easier being a leading man, unless you're a Flower Boy.

Hahaha for sure! No amount of makeup can get rid of that up all night working look. These ladies & fine gents work so hard I sweat stress just hearing about it ?

All of my "darlings" are doing melodrama this spring except Jung Ryeo Won and I was going to go into all of them for the laughs, since I dislike melodrama and mostly find it makjang-ridiculous, but Jung Bo Seok? As a villain? Lee Si Yeong as his daughter and female lead? With this writer? I kind of want this to be good now.

I wonder who they'll cast as the leading man.
Let's see, who comes to mind? Lee Jun-ki, Ju Ji-Hoon, Lee Chun-Hee, Yoon Shi-yoon, Yeon-Woo-jin (is he filming a movie?), Lee Sun-Ho, Kim Jae-Wook? Lee Jun-Hyuk would be great but he's still in the service.
Who would you suggest?

I'mma go Kim Jae-wook. Cause if he's the lead he'll get to talk AND not leave the show half way through, right?

I'mma say Kim Jae Wook. Cause if he's the lead he'll get to talk AND not mysteriously leave the show half way through. Right?

Sorry for the double post...my browser kept insisting that my comment wasn't there even after refreshing, and leaving and coming back...Maybe it was trying to tell me something. Or MAYBE it wanted a double emphasis on Kim Jae-Wook? The world may never know...

I love Lee Si Young so if she signs on, I am putting it on the watch list. Because my love is truly true! Good choice on creepy father guy. He always makes me extra angry when he plays the villain so I know he'll totally rock the role.
But, I wonder who would be the hero, hrmmm...

Seriously, are all these drama plots being generated by dealing a hand from a deck of flash cards with words like "revenge", "prosecutor", "secret", "chaebol heir", "love" and the names of various family members mixed in? It isn't even a large enough deck to play a hand of seven-card stud!
That said, I would check it out to see what Li Shi Young is up to.

I just hope they allow Lee Shi Young to look pretty in the show -- in Wild Romance that hair style and the clothes they put her in made her seem so asexual it was sad, because she's a total babe in It Started with a Kiss, and I also like her because she's a lefty like me :)

I think Park Shi Hoo is "reviewing positively" at this point. I hope Lee Si Yeong does not join if he does.
A leading role in a melodrama series will be an important move for her. I don't think it's a good idea to join an actor who has such controversy around him. "Made her melodrama breakthrough with actor-everyone-stills-thinks-is-a-rapist" is not the best thing to have in one's CV.
And while it should not affect her, since she is not related to the case in any way, those things do matter to most gossip-prone publications and people.

@orion
after years of being supporting actress, lee si young gets offered leading role....im surprised, but wish her luck.
her acting is not that good and she's not that popular, but maybe she'll improve. she looks young, can't believe she's almost 32!
