Only one episode this week! To mitigate the withdrawal shakes I’m sure many of us will be feeling tomorrow, we can take comfort in hearing that the show is (expectedly) considering the one-episode extension to even out the broadcast schedule. I would even suggest that they need not add more story or draw out existing conflicts—an episode of epilogues would do me just fine. Fanservice, skinship, cuddly times? All reasonable ideas for an Episode 21. Totally. Yup.

RECAP: THIRTEENTH RECORD

Min-joon interviews that when he first came to Earth, he wanted to help people with his powers, even if it meant revealing that he was different. A flashback takes us to Joseon when a man is trapped underneath a boulder begging for help, and Min-joon uses his powers to levitate the boulder off his leg.

Instead of gratitude, all that earns him is a mob bearing literal torches and pitchforks, ready to hunt down the monster. Wearing a sad, resigned look on his face, Min-joon vanishes into thin air, leaving them even more spooked.

He explains that he becomes a source of fear even with long-established friends, as we see when Min-joon’s best friend pesters him to share his reasons for leaving, probably on the eve of another identity wipe. The buddy declares with conviction that over ten years of friendship, he has utter faith in him.

Min-joon confides that he’s from a different planet, and upon the friend’s request for proof, he floats a book into the air. The friend flinches away from Min-joon and tears off screaming for help, leaving Min-joon hurt. The lesson? “If I don’t want to lose somebody, I would have to hide my identity carefully.”

So in his interview, Min-joon admits that he revealed his identity to Song-yi in order to lose her, wanting to frighten her into leaving. Thus we resume their scene at the museum from Episode 12.

Min-joon shatters the glass case and advances on Song-yi, who backs away from him slowly. “You said you didn’t care who I was,” he says. “This is who I am. Do you still not care?” He adds that he could decide to kill her off at any moment: “So run while you can. Leave!”

But instead, Song-yi reaches for his hand. Aw, I love that she needs to hold onto something while her world tilts, and unconsciously she seeks stability in him, even if he’s the cause for the chaos in the first place. She asks why he went to such lengths to save her if he’s so dangerous. Coldly, he answers that it’s only because she resembled the other girl and he’d wondered if they were connected somehow. But if she is only Song-yi, “I’m not interested in what happens to you.” Shaking off her hand, he stalks out.

Song-yi tries to process his information and mutters to herself that he’s ridiculous… but has second thoughts as she recalls all the times he swooped in to save her life. When she finally exits the museum in a daze, Min-joon watches from a distance. Her heel gets stuck in a crack, and as she pulls off the shoe, she glares up at the stars and yells, “You’re from another star? You’re an alien? If you’re an alien, then I’m a vampire! I haven’t aged since I was twenty, I have the same face and same skin—everyone says so!” HAHA. (Jeon Ji-hyun’s amazing non-transformation over the past decade and half has been in all the headlines of the past week.)

In his office, Jae-kyung wonders aloud how the prosecutor found out about his connection to Yura, deducing that Song-yi was the only one who knew. He’s muttering in his maniacal way, but tonight he seems extra unhinged, and then he glares at the person in front of him and accuses, “It’s your fault she knows in the first place.”

It’s… Yura? Is she a ghost, or is he finally going crazy? (I mean, he was pretty much already crazy, but based on the wild-eyed Shakespearean soliloquy I figure he’s close to breaking past his shell of sanity.) Now that she’s dead, Yura finally sees Jae-kyung for who he is (better late than never?) and asks sneeringly if he really thinks he can cover up all his crimes.

Jae-kyung ponders the interesting stranger with unusual powers, finding Min-joon both fascinating and aggravating. He can’t beat Min-joon in a frontal attack, but he does know of Min-joon’s one weakness: Song-yi. That’ll be his trump card in this game.

Yura says in disgust, “You’d play a game with a person’s love for someone else?” Jae-kyung merely answers, “Yeah. You lost too, in that game.”

Yura spirit leaves (or Jae-kyung’s hallucination fades, potayto-potahto), and he murmurs to himself, “I want to see you guys for a long time. But why do you mess with me?” (Why do you make me hit you, indeed.)

In the morning, the museum discovers its shattered case, but ultimately is not too worried because nothing was taken. The director is more excited about getting a lead on who the museum’s mystery donor may have been, having dug up a photo of university supporters dating to 1914. Perhaps one of the men pictured is their anonymous benefactor, who popped up over the years to give generous amounts of money in times of difficulty. An employee suggests releasing this photo in conjunction with the school’s hundred-year anniversary, and a glance at the faded black-and-white photograph confirms that yup, Min-joon is there, looking exactly the same.

Min-joon fills Lawyer Jang in on last night’s events, and Lawyer Jang clucks that he didn’t have to go that far in outing the truth to Song-yi; he could have just cut off contact quietly. Lawyer Jang sighs that it would be nice if Min-joon could wipe memories like those aliens in the movies (ha, MiB), even pressing, “Are you sure you can’t?” Min-joon huffs his no.

The dilemma is weighing heavy on Min-joon’s mind, of being unable to stay behind with Song-yi or take her with him. The only thing he can do is disappear, he says, and enable her to at least live a good life after he’s gone. Lawyer Jang doesn’t quite follow his logic, but we know he’s thinking of his deal with the devil. In flashback, we revisit the scene where he offers to shoulder the blame for Jae-kyung’s crimes, in exchange for leaving Song-yi alone.

Song-yi still can’t wrap her head around Min-joon’s news, and confides in Bok-ja after making her promise not to breathe a word of it to anyone (replete with specialized pinky-swear, hand-slap, shoulder-wriggle, fist-pump sequence).

Bok-ja immediately laughs off the alien story, assuming it’s just one in a long list of crap excuses men make to blow off women. Her own first love confession was met with a “Sorry, I have to go to the army,” which was, of course, soon proven false. Another time, a guy swore he was possessed by spirits and had decided to be a shaman, then promptly got married in a church.

Song-yi considers that Min-joon may have lied, though she can’t quite reconcile the lie with all those strange incidents involving him. Bok-ja notes that Song-yi must’ve been really clingy for him to resort to that extreme a story… or maybe he’s mentally unbalanced.

Song-yi bolts up and decides she has to get harder proof. She takes a hike up to the cliffside where her car lost control, plants herself on the edge, and shouts, “Do Min-jooooooon! I’m in daaaaaanger! Come save meeeeee!” LOL.

Of course, it happens to be broad daylight and there are plenty of hikers around, who write her off as a lunatic. Her screams get no response, so she takes that as evidence of his lack of alien powers.

Next she walks into his classroom and sits through his lecture, intercepting him at the exit. She dares him to use his alien powers to leave the room, pestering, “You’re not, right? You’re not an alien!” Min-joon all but rolls his eyes and pushes past her, exiting in wholly human fashion.

She walks out of the building right at his side, drawing stares and whispers. “Fly,” she prods. “Or do you need your Superman clothes to fly?” Her pettiness cracks me up, as she counters his irritation with jabs like “Are you really annoyed? Do you think I’m joking and that irritates you? Well that’s exactly how you made ME feel!”

She warns him not to leave her, threatening to shout that he’s an alien if he does. Min-joon clenches his jaw and growls her name, but she chirps his own words back at him: “Why, did you trust me? You warned me so nicely not to trust you, so why would you trust me?” She threatens to alert the presses and the Blue House and NASA and tell them all about the alien, and demands the price for her silence: Have dinner with her. Haha.

Having won that battle, Song-yi points out that she gets to pick where, which results in a loooong drive to the beach. At dinner, Song-yi barrages Min-joon with increasingly absurd questions: Do aliens eat food? Do they recharge with electricity? Do they have a different body under that skin? Is their blood blue?

As they walk on the shore after dinner, Song-yi asks about Min-joon’s comment from early in their acquaintanceship, when he’d said there was no way Song-yi could be “her.” He confirms that he’d been referring to the girl with the hairpin, and Song-yi mulls this over, supposing the other woman must’ve been pretty if she looked like her. But was that really the only reason he was interested in Song-yi?

He answers yes, that he’d confused their resemblance for more, but realized at some point that Song-yi wasn’t Yi-hwa. And if he’d liked Song-yi on her own merits, he should have been able to feel something for her after realizing this… but he didn’t.

Song-yi presses for more: “You didn’t like me for one moment? You never once felt your heart flutter because of me? You never sincerely worried about me, not once? You never liked me just for me, without connection to that girl? You’ve never thought of a future with me?”

Her questions make Min-joon think of all the examples that belie his words—of taking care of her, of saving her life, of dreaming of being with her in a blissful future. But he hardens his voice to answer no, a little incredulous that she cares more about him liking her than the whole alien bit.

Song-yi replies, “To me, that’s a hundred, thousand times more important. Whether you’re an alien from another planet or a vampire or a monster or whatever your past is, it’s how the man I like—no, the man I liked—thinks of me that’s most important.”

Well, knock him down with a feather. But to Song-yi, this is all such obvious stuff, that none of that other stuff makes any difference when he’s the man she cared about. “I liked you, truly,” she says. “But if you saw me in place of another woman, you’re the worst. And if I know that and like you anyway, then I’m the worst. So I’ll get over my feelings.”

He tells her that’s the right choice, and she turns away and reverts to formal speech, apologizing for bothering him all this while and promising not to do so anymore. And if she weakens and calls him, he should cut her off.

The ride home is cold and silent, and Song-yi feigns sleep until the instant he pulls into the parking spot. She studiously ignores him and goes home without a second look in his direction, while Min-joon keeps sneaking sidelong glances her way.

Min-joon’s next lecture is on the five stages of overcoming grief, with Song-yi living out each of the stages in turn. The anger stage has Song-yi beating up her pillows, furious at Min-joon for saying he never once liked her. Denial has Song-yi scoffing at his alien explanation and hunting through her apartment for joke hidden cameras.

In the bargaining stage, Song-yi tries to convince herself that Min-joon wasn’t her type anyway, all old-fashioned and stuffy and probably a crazy alien to boot. Moving on to depression, she finds herself unexpectedly crying over dinner. Surprised at herself, she insists, “This isn’t crying. It’s just tears forming in my eyes. It’s not crying.”

Last is acceptance, where she vows to get even prettier (“Yes, I’m already incredibly pretty, but I’ll get insanely prettier!”) to show him and make him regret it.

Min-joon explains that there are gender differences in how men and women apply this to their romantic lives, as women frequently vow to improve themselves or meet a better match, while guys… well, they’re worse off. Cut to: Min-joon refusing to eat, completely depressed. Aw.

Lawyer Jang reports that Min-joon’s apartment will sell after all, despite those strange rumors circulating about it, and tells him the buyer is on his way over to take a look. Mention of a young rich man who jumped at the chance probably gives Min-joon an idea of who this could be… and sure enough, the guest at his door turns out to be Hwi-kyung.

Immediately, Min-joon tells Lawyer Jang to cancel the deal; he’ll return the deposit plus more. Hwi-kyung doubles his offer on the spot, only to have Min-joon tell him flatly, “I won’t sell to you.” Pfft. Min-joon shuts the door in his face and is so worked up that he shatters a mug in his hand without realizing it. Then his super-hearing hones in on the voices next door, as Song-yi approves of Hwi-kyung’s wishes to buy the place, and he spills water everywhere.

In interview mode, Min-joon explains a saying about missing someone so much your heart is buried in dust. He sniffs that this is the complete opposite case, with barely a speck of dust to be found: “Is getting over your feelings like cleaning a room? So fast?” Ha, he’s peevish at Song-yi for not being more heartbroken, is he? He insists that he’s relieved that Song-yi’s gotten over him so quickly, and insists, “I said I’m really not upset!”

Song-yi tells Hwi-kyung of the film offer she just received, looking at it optimistically even though it’s a supporting role. The character’s got a mean temper (Hwi-kyung: “That’s perfect for you!” Song-yi: “Right? I won’t even have to act”) and she’s happy to take a strong character that isn’t like all those samey-same heroines (“they’re all bright, nice, and righteous”).

Min-joon is still listening when she tells Hwi-kyung about the detective dropping by to ask about Yura, and whether she was dating Min-joon. Now she confesses that she knows the truth, and shares that Yura was dating Jae-kyung, and that she told the cop that info.

The investigators are hard at work tracking down neighborhood security cameras, hoping to spot Yura and Jae-kyung together. Jae-kyung watches them from his car, feeling the pinch, and sends Min-joon a text to hurry up their deal: He has three days to make good.

The investigators make a breakthrough when they find a coincidence in Jae-kyung’s and Yura’s cell phone records. During one stretch of vacation, Jae-kyung’s calls all originated from a particular region (where the family villa is)—and over the same span of days, so did Yura’s. Now they can narrow their search to that location during those dates.

Hwi-kyung acts on his own hunch and invents an excuse to slip inside his brother’s car. He looks through the GPS log, and finds the location of a particular mental hospital. Bingo.

Full of thoughts of her doppelganger, Song-yi returns to the museum and asks about the hairpin, which has been moved in the wake of its shattered case. The docent can’t answer her inquiry into the hairpin owner’s identity, but that doesn’t stop Song-yi from pelting him with additional questions: How old was she? Was she married or single? Was she pretty? Ha.

The 100-year anniversary exhibit is underway, and Song-yi pauses at the photo of the university’s early supporters. Immediately recognizing Min-joon from the 1914 photo, she recalls his outlandish claims of living for hundreds of years, and then goes out of her way to block the picture from other people’s eyes, plastering herself against the glass so that nobody can look at it. Cute.

Song-yi wrestles with the question of whether to inform Min-joon about that photo. He catches her on the door monitor pacing in front of his door, changing her mind a dozen times, and finally heads out himself. She scrambles out of view and leaves a Post-It on his door informing him to check out the museum photograph, adding the ineffectual warning, “Don’t try to find out who I am.”

Thankfully Min-joon’s powers are useful in this, and upon seeing the photo in the display case, he makes it disappear.

The two stage moms run into each other and snipe back and forth with their usual poisoned politeness. Se-mi’s mother sours to hear that Song-yi will be back on her feet with a new agency, and Song-yi’s mother makes sure to rub it in that Song-yi will be reclaiming all her CFs soon. But Se-mi’s mother gets the last laugh because Song-yi’s mother gets the rude awakening that she is no longer eligible for free services at this beauty salon, now that Song-yi’s sponsorship has been pulled.

That’s enough impetus to send Mom to Jae-kyung’s office to sign the agency contract. Sure, Song-yi still protests, but Mom deludes herself into thinking she can convince her later. Jae-kyung is happy to keep this a secret, and requests that Mom report Song-yi’s filming schedule to him. She assures him she will.

Song-yi prepares for filming, a little disappointed not to be doing a hard melodrama. But one snarky comment from her brother is enough to get her fired up to show off her action skills.

Ah, so this is how they’ll target Song-yi next. While the staff busily sets up the stunts, we see that Killer Secretary has earned himself a job as part of the crew. DUN dun dun!

Seok pursues his lead regarding the fountain pen, and stumbles upon a confounding discovery. Hoping to hear that the dead pen owner perhaps knew Min-joon, he instead finds that the dead man was Min-joon—or at least, he looked exactly like him, a co-worker confirms. Thus it’s with interest that he accepts Min-joon’s request to meet, curious to hear what he has to reveal about himself.

Song-yi and her mother show up to the set to zero fanfare, and only now do they realize that Se-mi is the lead. It chafes their pride to hear that Se-mi pushed for Song-yi to get hired, but they’re in no position to argue about it. I do appreciate that while Song-yi’s mom huffs to be condescended to by Se-mi’s mom, Song-yi tells her that she’s getting back what she dished out over all the years.

Lawyer Jang hears of Min-joon’s harebrained deal with the devil and protests, but Min-joon says that he has to either stop Jae-kyung or kill him. If he doesn’t, Song-yi might die, and time is ticking.

To that end, he surrenders himself to the prosecutor’s office, to offer his “confession.” Oh noooo. Ack. Nooooo!

Jae-kyung smiles to hear that Min-joon is complying so obediently, and anticipates that Song-yi will soon be “taken care of” as well.

Over on the film set, Song-yi prepares for her action scene. She wears her sabotaged wire, positions herself on platform many stories up, and leaps into the air…

EPILOGUE

On the cliff, Song-yi “tests” Min-joon by screaming for his help. When he fails to show, she scoffs at his ridiculous claims… and behind a tree, Min-joon realizes she was faking and grumbles in annoyance. “She can’t just call me anytime! She scared me!”

COMMENTS

Of course you would end there. Of course. Both lives endangered, lovers separated, villain twirling his mustache (nail ring)… Aughhh, New Year.

I find it interesting that despite being burned by history repeatedly, Min-joon still harbored enough hope to keep trying. The scene in the first part of the episode was definitely 20th century, so we know that 300 years of disappointment weren’t enough to completely jade Min-joon, and as we saw later at the bank, he was still able to forge a connection with Lawyer Jang. That’s why I wonder if his attempt to scare off Song-yi wasn’t rather half-hearted, because to him, revealing his identity has always been an attempt to connect. He didn’t look surprised by the Joseon man’s horrified reaction, which suggests that he’s always ready to deal with a negative response, though that expectation can never completely drown out the hope.

That’s why I love Song-yi’s immediate reaction to Min-joon’s revelation. Sure, later we get the whole gamut of denial and skepticism, but in the moment she’s only thinking of him as the man she loves. You almost get the sense that she’s annoyed with the whole alien bit for clouding the real issue, which is more along the lines of: You you like me? Circle YES or NO.

She also doesn’t immediately ascribe negative connotations to him being an alien, unlike the other instances we saw where he was instantly labeled monster and goblin. Granted, she hasn’t fully accepted the fact as truth yet, but there really wasn’t a knee-jerk fear response at the nature of his secret (aside from backing up because he was yelling at her, which I don’t really count). Really, in her book his worst offense is not loving her back. She already loved him enough to consider marrying him if he were a criminal (and I don’t even think there was too much joking in her thought process), so this weird thing? She can make it work, I’m sure.

I can’t recall if the drama has made this explicit, but I am assuming that Lawyer Jang and Song-yi are the only two people who have ever accepted Min-joon as he is, and able to see him beyond the alien label. I have no complaints about the focus of this drama skewing toward the romance, but I do hope we get more scenes of Min-joon’s impending separation with Lawyer Jang, because in a way they’ve been in a spouse-like relationship too, based on trust, confidence, mutual respect and warmth, and for generations, at that. In addition to being the person who knows Min-joon best, I’m also pretty sure that Lawyer Jang knows him better than himself. I love the glimpses we’ve seen so far, and would just love a little bit more. More. MOAR…

Here my questions for this ep.: 1-When Lawyer Jang says to MJ, “Your superpower is potluck now,” what did he mean? Your superpowers are all jumbled up now? 2-Does anyone know what campus (and what school) they film the university scenes at? I was just curious.

This ep. was so good. I feel like I keep saying that with every new ep., and it probably is because every new ep. builds well on the previous episodes, and on the plot. I can’t help but think about how often KSH has to act sad, contained, and stoic in this drama, and how that must affect him emotionally. I remember LMH saying in an interview after CH that when the drama was over, he had to smile (I think it might have been for a photoshoot), and how he felt weird smiling, because he had had to act sad for so many scenes. I am glad to know that they are having fun on the set, and that the cast gets along well, so it must make it a little easier to take in those long hours they have to put in. It must also be encouraging to see that the drama is doing so well in Korea, and abroad.

There were so many scenes I loved in this ep., I actually loved the whole ep. I really loved SY’s reaction, at the museum. She didn’t run away, she actually hung on to MJ for strength. Then, when she finally made it outside, she cursed MJ and the heavens (it seems). I also loved the part where she said she thought it was a date, he should have fed her, before his confession (of who he was). SY, ever the pragmatic girl. I also loved that MJ kept watching over SY and tried to help her, after he left the room, at the museum. SY didn’t know, and she just kept walking.

We might have talked about this in the comments for the last ep., however, I am really glad that MJ told her himself who he was, as opposed to her finding that out in some random way. I was curious about how the writer was going to handle the reveal and its aftermath, and I couldn’t help but smile to see that we yet again were given humorous scenes, sad ones, and some very moving scenes as well. I continue to like the tone of this drama. I also love the uncovering of the murder, and how that is being handled. We know that in the end, JK will be found out, yet I am enjoying how we are getting there.

Some have questioned if MJ really had to do what JK wanted him to do. I personally understand why MJ is willing to take the blame: he is doing that to not only protect SY, but also to protect her family. In a previous ep., we saw JK showing MJ a picture of himself (JK) with SY’s mom. We know that JK does not play, and when he threatens to do something, chances are that he will do it. I therefore understand why MJ felt that he had no other choice but to go along with JK’s requests. Since JK feels that he cannot touch SY (Since MJ is close to her), he will go after her family. The sad thing (and dangerous thing, I think) is that JK is (actually) not going to leave SY alone, and try to kill her. I think MJ will see red about this, because it shows that JK is not keeping his word (which we could have suspected, but MJ felt that he would give JK a chance, I suppose).

I really loved the epilogue, especially because I thought MJ didn’t go to her. To see that he had actually gone, and was muttering under his breath tickled me. He cannot help himself but go to her, if he thinks she is in danger. SY was hilarious, (yet again), and kudos to JJH for fully embracing her character, and not holding back in her acting throughout this drama.

I believe the potluck comment meant that there is only a chance now that Do Min Joon's powers will work, especially when they have failed him a few times now.

Hi Eva,

And thanks for your explanation. You know, I have really liked how the writer has tied the different subplots she has written for the drama. However, there is one I wished had been explained, and that is how MJ managed to escape the guards who were after him, when YH died, 400 years ago. We know that he escaped, because we see him in the drama (after that incident), and we saw him with the doctor who nursed him back to health. However, based on the fact that he was weakened on that night (because of the arsenic in his food), and surrounded, and the cliff was behind him, I am curious as to how he was able to flee.
Did he teleport, even though a few minutes earlier, he couldn’t stop time and stop the arrows that killed YH? We are left to speculate about that, and I would have liked to have the writer’s perspective on that.

The other thing I found interesting, was that I had read (about last week’s episodes), that we were getting into Angstville. That made sense, considering where the story was going. However, I found myself thinking, “isn’t the OTP a couple by the time the drama (especially one with romance involved) gets into Angstcity?” (Or the OTP has been a couple for a short while at least, or they have confessed to each other). I have been thinking (and I know I am not the only one), that this drama has been non traditional in many ways, as far as Kdramas go.
It made me realize that Det. Park’s question last week to SY, about what MJ and her were, was an important question (at least for SY). I didn’t pay attention to it at first, but then when SY said, “I don’t (even) know,” it occurred to me that, not only was SY right in her answer, but also, realizing that she didn’t even know what they were (they have not officially been a couple yet), must have added to her confusion about where things were at with DMJ. It just made me think, and I love how the writer uses even tertiary characters to mention certain points.

Also, when SY was on the dreadmill, vowing to show MJ (and the world) how prettier she had become, I thought of the song, “I will survive” by Gloria Gaynor. The song does not totally apply to who MJ has been to SY, however, I could just imagine SY working out to that song. And some of the lyrics say, “…and so you're back, from outer space…”

And I couldn’t help but think of Coffee Prince, when SY told DMJ at the beach that she didn’t care if he was an alien or not. Maybe another meta?... (Except that here, they didn’t kiss at the end of her speech, and at the end of her questions to DMJ).

I would have to say that seeing how explosive his reaction to his love dying before his eyes, he let it rip!! Lol I think he did away with them all, I know I would've. Like I had mentioned in the previous episode, I think he should or may just have out Jae Kyung down. He is a psychopath that does not have the capacity of self restraint. He loves to kill, and therefore should be killed. Simple!

Now on to something I thought about yesterday when I watch this episode... An idea of how Min Joon can stay with Song Yi. I think it would be wonderful that when they finally become a couple; get married and consummate their union that if SY carries his baby, then it would I turn allow him to begin the aging process. I figured that it would be a wonderful way, unbeknownst to him of course that this would make him more human.

In regards to what happened to the Guards and mind you this is just based on my speculation so I may be way of mark. I don't think that he took them out. (he was in no condition to really use his powers. Sure it is possible that he amped up for a brief second. But what I suspect is that the following events happened.

Since he was poisoned the effects finally overcame him.
He therefore went into full recovery mode.
Thus the soldiers suspected that he was dead so they took him to the Doctor.
Over here the Doctor/Professor started giving his students his theory on how he may have died etc...
Or maybe due to the weak pulse the soldiers took him
over there.
Yet he slowly recovered (due to his powers etc...)
And then he befriended the doctor.

So I guess that should make four people who knew about his Secret and yet accepted him for who he really was. I guess it is for that very reason that he would occasionally open up to different people. For every 100 people that would reject him there would be one who would accept him for who and what he really was.

I guess it was inevitable that he would make a deal with the devil (so to speak) But like I said earlier being in love is not only making him sloppy but careless at the same time. A few hundred years he would have just vanished of into the sunset but now that he is actually in love he is doing his best to protect that person (not saying that it is wrong just the method is)
For instance a better method would have been trying to take the dude out (legally preferably) instead of agreeing to his crimes (Atleast I suspect it is the Yura case only hopefully). After all once a villain always a villain. How could he be sure that he would have kept his side of the bargain and not try to renege on his side of the deal (which he is clearly doing) (Smart of the bad guy) We clearly knew that he couldn't be trusted. Min Joon offered him the USB with the only charge that Songi be left alone yet he tried to eliminate both of them still.
In this case what Min Joon should have done is make some sort of backup plan just incase he was double crossed. Even reveal to Songyi the truth so that she could protect herself on her own. She is no Damsel In Distress.To bad no one really sees that. Sure there are time when she is a bit vulnerable but that his is role to be there for her and family also.
I suspect that what is going to happen is that as soon as he confesses to his crimes (that he didn't commit) and they are taking him away he will hear about the accident (while I want noting bad to happen to Songyi but for dramatic purposes) So he promptly escapes from custody (fortunatley he is not a soldier of fortune and people don't need him for help nor does he require money) (Get the references :) ) He goes to her rescue and takes her awat for her protection or ports her to the nearest hospital secretly.
Now due to the criminal charges against him Min Joon has beome a wanted person. So now everyone will turn against him. The only people on his side will be Lawyer Jang (Since he clearly knows the Truth) and Songyi who will refuse to believe this. She will then try to discover the truth only endangering herself more. Lawyer Jang finally having enough will finally reveal the truth. Super Hero Team Up time etc... Have more to say but I think I may have exceded my Limit or close to so will leave it here for the moment till then take care and hope to hear your thouhts soon. :)

Luckily the cliffhanger didn't leave us with the bloody DMJ lying on the street, I can still feel the pain from TMS's cliffhanger when the SOB mechanic stabbed my Master with a screwdriver...that was traumatic.

When we saw him at the beginning of the series (and when I have seen him so far in the following episodes), it felt like he was going to be an important part of SY's story, which he is, but we haven't seen much of him :-(. I really love him as an actor. I like him here, and I loved him in GFB.

Cheon Song Yi is the best k-drama heroine ever. She continues to best the impression I have of her in each episode -- i always love her "more" than i do the previous episode.

Also, we never get to see what minjoon wanted to tell the prosecutor before the scene cuts away so here's to hoping they have something up their sleeves.

Yes, I totally agree about the "confession". I like how this drama has been able to subvert viewer's expectations, the most prominent example (for me), being how Song-yi decided she was no longer hung-up over the guy who saved her 12 years ago, and that she doesn't need Se-mi to tell her who he is.

That is why I am hoping that the "confession" will be more than the cliched blame taking. (Because seriously, Min-joon's a smart hero. Why would he do that?)

I totally agree. I think what's so appealing about Cheon Song Yi is her complete disregard for all those k-drama stereotypes. She doesn't skirt around her love and she is 100% direct. No bullshit. Even to her mother.
That and her awesome montage scenes of course.

Also, I KNEW IT! I knew do min joon would be standing hidden somewhere when she was yelling for him. I thought I was mistaken when the scene cut away but then when the epilogue started i was like
'YES! YES! YES'
But then again that's what I say all through the episode tbh

I thought we'd go into some melodrama in this episode but the show keeps surprising me and kept it fun and light (but not shallow) despite the serious stuff going on. I laughed out loud in unexpected scenes. So good.

I think the fact that Min Jun still chose to trust Jaekyung (if he really did) only goes to prove the point that Min Jun is deeply in love with Song Yi so much so that he doesn't use logic with regard to anything related to her but he uses his heart. This is emphasised by his present occupation which really means he should know better but nonetheless he still succumbs to Jae Kyung's offer.

Superficially, it seems that MJ is preparing to take the fall for JK.

Initially, this elicited a bit of self hair pulling over MJ's apparent naivity.

Thinking deeper though, I think this outcome will be quite unlikely.

The best way to stop JK, short of killing him, would be to put him behind bars; and I think MJ is meeting with the prosecutor in order to make that happen.

Given lawyer Jangs surprised reaction, MJ might even reveal the truth. In a way, this might end up being a bigger sacrifice for MJ, outing his identity to the world and having to face the fallout.

Can't wait till to see what he actually says to the prosecutor.

Unfortunately, coming to this conclusion won't stop me from pulling my hair over MJ's noble idiocy from the romance POV.

Agree, at the moment, this seems a likely option. Min-joon is nobody's fool, and neither is our prosecutor!

I'm just wondering if there'll come a time when Min-joon has to make a choice whether or not to kill Jae-kyung, and what the ramifications of that will be?

So far in his 400 years on Earth, he's helped people and saved lives, but we've never seen anyone die because of him. I keep thinking about the way those plants wilt every time he's sick or injured. What happens to his energy when he takes someone's life?

Pity he can't just be charged on electricity, like Song-yi suggested (my God, she and Lawyer Jang were crackin' me up with their digs about Min-joon's superpowers!! :D)

I hope you're right. I can't believe that he would have made any type of "deal" with psycho brother. Really, he's smarter than that. I hope your version of events is where the drama goes. That's why I loved when he said to Lawyer Jang that it's either 'this' (confessing) or to 'kill the SOB'. Min Joon, I'm soo behind you on the second option.

I wish this drama would have showed more of MJ feigning for Song Yi. I don't want her to grovel in front of him or obsess over the fact that he doesn't like her, any longer. Enough of that now drama. She asked him her questions, got her answers, now it's time to see puppy Min Joon beg for some loving. Time for these tables to get turning. : )

I'm not too surprised that he hasn't exactly wised up despite having studied Human Psychology... Sure he has a lot of knowledge, but it is all based in theory. And there can be a big difference between theory and reality. That is why it is so humorous when MJ starts spouting all this information about human behavior yet is thrown for a loop when he actually has to deal with a real life situation.
Yes, MJ is very smart for having lived 400 years, but at the same time he is very much innocent due to his lack of actual experience. :)

I also feel like Jae-Kyung is not the smartest villain out there. If i were him i would have waited until AFTER min joon confessed and then gotten rid of song-yi. If min-joon were to find out he broke their deal then he'd call it off -- then go protect song-yi on his own terms, jae-kyung be damned.
I wanted min-joon to choose the other option (killing jae-kyung instead of turning himself in) but i know that's not what his character is all about. *sigh* our heroes always have to be so noble. noble idiots. You make it so hard to side with you, min joon. Esp. when song-yi is so damn awesome in how she's handled the confession.
When she cut through his bull excuses and said that what was important was how he feels about her, i wanted to bottle up her awesomeness and then save it to sprinkle onto future k-heroines.

The thing is it makes sense from his point of view. We know what min joon can do because we are the audience but the only thing that he knows about him is that he is super fast. He isn't an amateur it's just that his information is incomplete though I do agree about waiting till after min joon confessed. Better safe then sorry right?

I thought that Jae-kyung knew that Min-joon can appear and disappear, which makes it super stupid of him to try to kill Cheon Song-yi if there's even a remote chance of Min-joon finding out. I mean, it's not like jail is going to hold Min-joon. So if Cheon Song-yi did get hurt (God forbid), then Min-joon is going to go after Jae-kyung, and no one can stop him. Jae-kyung wouldn't make much of a chess player. Yes, I know he's going crazy since he's having hallucinations, but I thought he'd have a bit more reasoning skills left.

I realize this entire post is my denial. At least the cable Cheon Song-yi is tied to won't give out right away, but it's not like they'll get the take right on the first try. It'll be like Russian roulette.

Agreed. Min Joon, Lawyer Jang and Song Yi remind me a lot of Yoon Sung - Ahjussi and Nana in City Hunter. I can see it and would be heart broken if something happened to Lawyer Jang but it would hurt soooooo good that I want it. They're my favorite bromance this year and on the list for all time so I would love to see more, especially if there's an extension.

I too agree that Hwi Kyung will be the one to bring his brother down but hopefully staying alive while doing it. Shin Sung Rok is doing a great job but it really would have been interesting to see Park Hae Jin in the role so hope to see him play a darker role next time.

I remember back then with Coffee Prince, @javabeans made a comment where Yoon Eun Hye was the heart of the drama and Gong Yoo was the soul. I feel the same way in regards to Jeon Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun. Their vulnerability in the last few eps have been such a treat to watch. I love them is an understatement.

JJH in this ep is super hilarious! I enjoy her antics a lot.
I also like how her reaction to DMJ's revelation is portrayed. It rings true, yet is so funny.

It's good that JK is shown to be a nut job talking to the woman he ordered killed. MJ should show him to be what he is, a murderous nut job, instead of taking the blame for him.
But how much do you figure one needs to get paid in order to do the dirty work for JK like his leaky does? How many murders has he committed for his boss? Would the boss want to kill him off one day to protect his secret? MJ can't take the blame for that one!

That's the cliffhanger to end cliffhangers. She flies from the ledge. The wires break and then what?

She calls out DMJ's name; he freezes time to teleport to her location, and saves her. Let's see him explain his way out of this one with her!

Thank you for the recap. I think you said it all when you said we need MOAR!!!
I can't get enough of this drama. It is killing me that they decided not to air episode 14. Totally understandable since the actors and staff need breathing room BUT....
I need more. OMG, this drama is totally affecting my everyday life.

I hope that extension happens with MOAR lovey dovey moments with MJ and SY.

Also what a cliffhanger! I think SY will get hurt and finally the noble idiocy that MJ is thinking of hopefully ends!

I am so invested in these two's relationship. I want to see MOAR development between them -- where they find out more about each other and MJ can finally connect totally with another being and no longer have that desolate expression.

For now the plot seems to suggest that MJ is being a total noble idiot but his words seem to belie this when he himself acknowledges he could just get rid of JK but chooses not to because that would take him to JK's level. I'm pretty sure MJ is thinking of a plot to take JK down. He cannot have seem what humans are like living 400 years on earth! All in all I can't wait for the next ep.

Aww.. so many things I loved about this episode.

1) Min-joon's interview and his hopefulness that one day someone would accept him for who he is.

2) Song-yi reaching out to take Min-joon's hand.

3) Jae-Kyung's soliloquy, taking him to another level of craziness.

4) 5 stages of overcoming grief.

5) Min-joon's petty jealousy.

6)That Min-joon showed up on the cliff after all.

Now to get through the rest of this week, I am going to replay awesome YFAS scenes again and again. While snacking on new year snacks!

The quintessential way to end a one-sided love -- no tears, no desperation, saying everything you want, then coolly walking away. I bet she regretted drinking during dinner; otherwise, she could have drove herself and let him fly home. Even though I fully understand his intentions and reasons for pushing her away, I call them as I see them -- noble idiot, he is. His miffed “How can she get over her feelings so fast?” was so cute. But my favorite part was how offended he got at alien movies degrading his people.

I didn’t really feel this episode ended in a cliffhanger; perhaps if we saw Song Yi’s wire break, then I would have been more on edge, but I am expecting Min Joon to bust out the ex-wife mental hospital footage while he is being recorded on tape. I was shocked to see Jae Kyung could literally be mentally insane having hallucinations of not only dead people but dead people he killed.

Now how to wait another week? Thanks for the recap, javabeans!

i love how they brought back alot of the meta in this episode, and more of the laughs. i was expecting a depressing fallout with the reveals but YFAS continues to keep this show lighthearted and fun, despite the villainous jae-kyung who we all know is craycray. I don't really care about his background anymore since it's evident that he's got some mental issues and doesn't give a damn about killing.

Seen her in Blood: the last Vampire and she was totally badass in it. When she did the high kick I got a flash back of Lee Jun-ki in Arang. He is the only other actor with impressive high kicks. They would make an amazing pair in an action film or drama.

Just when I thought the fist shaking pain will start in this episode, Vampire Song Yi proves me wrong. Totally laughed at the vampire part coz she was really a vampire in her movie before. HAHAHAHA. Not to mention, she was a "400 YEAR-OLD" vampire. This drama never drops the funny things and I love it!

Ah, Do Min Joon. It pains me to see you pushing Song Yi away when we all know that you want to keep her close. It's totally obvious especially when he said "It's not like I can take her with me nor can I stay here." Okay, fine, he's an alien, but he deserves love. Those flashbacks were really heartbreaking. For 400 years, he actually kept trying to be closer to humans and maintain a friendly relationship with them despite being turned down every single time. Imagine how hard it is for him to push the girl he loves and wants to spend forever with. Sigh. Is that the sound of my heart breaking?

I agree with JB about Lawyer Jang. To Min Joon who never had anyone stay by him, he was the person who said the most meaningful thing he ever did was protecting Min Joon. I swear I'd cry so much when the time comes that they had to part. Just thinking about it makes me teary eyed.

That scene with Jaekyung talking to Yoora scares me so bad. He's freaking crazy and twisted. Still, I wonder how he became like that. When did it start? I mean, he had a wife and I believe that he did love her at some point. Drama, I need explanations!

And I just have to say this. I love Bok Ja! She's really a true friend to Song Yi.

This is the first time I felt upset about a preemption of a show. T^T Only one episode this week? Are you serious? Okay...

Lawyer Jang is a huggy-bear, all I can say. For staying next to Min Joon, I just want to cling to him and say "Thank you, thank you thank you thank you!" until he gets really annoyed.
And Bok Ja - is there like an Oscar category for Best Friend ? No? well she gets one anyway. ah that handshake! she has some of the best lines.

They have really put effort into giving each character a strong point, and some quality screen time, and some time with the main heroes in each episode. they all get to have standout moments. yes the only one who seems left behind is the Dad. but I hope there is a reason.

I usually like my loose ends neatly tied up, but for once, I can say that as long as we get enough OTP magic together (not to mention HEA!), I don't mind too much if we don't learn exactly what happens to each character.

There's certainly a lot of side characters and unresolved storylines, as everyone's pointed out - Hwi-kyung and Se-mi, evil delusional Jae-kyung and the wife who for some reason isn't dead yet, Song-yi's dad, Bok-ja, Song-yi's 2 assistants... But that's what the epilogues are for! and the writers seem to know what they're doing.

I'm just enjoyin' the ride...

Is it possible that Min Joo's power base on his feelings? Cuz he's destroying the mug means he has super strength when angry. So all this time he manages to control his power because he is detached from his feelings. Maybe now his power unpredictable because his feelings is in turmoil. If it is, does that means love will actually make him strong?? WOOAAAH that will be a great twist instead of weakens him.

I'm laughing at Min Joon refusing to eat his meal. LOLOLOL. It has always been Song Yi who did those kind of love depression, and now that he who always tried to look cool and ignorant is actually as petty as a kid in love. LOLOL

I always want to say this, Jun Ji Hyun not only fill this drama with he visual, her voice is something that builds her character too. The tune she used, her sound projection is catchy and hard to forget. She really does a great job with her line.

I love the JJH meta. First, about the vampire. I was at that moment remember about her being Saya. LOL, they did a great job with it. Second, when she asked Min Joon about his taste for a married woman. LOL, i don't see that coming

Cheon Song-Yi is so many things.
Gorgeous, fierce, haughty, vulnerable, petty, straight-forward, dorky, loving, brave, ignorant, CRAZY, diva-like, strong, sexy, caring, absurd, talented, honest, prideful, eager. and accepting. I can go on and on.
There's just so many adjectives associated with her -- i can't find any heroine in k-dramaland like that. She's so well-rounded. Somehow she can be all those things and we're still able to connect with her.

I really love Kim Soo Hyun's voice, tone, ennunciation, musicality, and delivery. Even when he's rapidly firing at SY for all ridiculous belittling assumptions earthlings make of his alien race, it's as if I am listening to an enjoyable rap while understanding every single word. He is an incredibly talented actor.

So the Thursday without YWCFTS is here. How do I feel? Well ... (Tries to choke back tears but a tearstorm coming on). Next stage, with a strange light in my eyes, twirling my ring at the SBS people saying "you know I like you. Take care of your health."

Those have been considered as his strong merits as an actor.
especailly his great vocalization and extremely clear & accurate pronunciation... GOD He is so good!
And he exactly knows where to stop and continue between words. he is exceptionally GREAT at it.
Because of that, he has already got tons of compliments from many renowned veteran directors and senior actors.
They say he has become the standard in which all young male actors are to be judged.

Song Yi is just great, I love her to death. When she went to the cliff and called his name and left with, "Superman my ass" and then on the college stairs when she said, "Fly", I about peed my pants.

Does she only look like the girl from 400 years ago to Min Joon or is there more? It seems like that's not the end of that connection.

These beautiful models. Hwi kyung's black turtle neck sweater and London fog - *fanning*. And that white turtle neck sweater and charcoal topcoal on Min Joon never looked so good.

He's lying-he already knows she's the girl from 400 yrs before by her reaction to the hairpin, but to get rid of her he had to say they were different people so he could say it wasn't actually her he loves. Also-he fell in love with her regardless of whether she was a re-incarnation or just a look-alike, but he wanted to know the answer anyway, so he took her to see the hairpin (the first time).

This episode was so obviously a filler episode, and I think. it's probably because of the preemption.

During that scene with JK and Yu-ra, I kept thinking 'yep, death hyung done lost his marbles completely '. I feel more and more nervous for Hwi-kyung's safety the closer he gets to discovering his brother.
My favourite scenes: When Min-joon was teaching about the stages a person goes through after rejection, his and hers. The epilogue when Song-yi was screaming for him to come save her, I really thought she was going to throw herself off that mountain or she was going to accident trip and fall, which would make sense considering those shoes she was wearing. 12 is still my favourite episode yet.

"Awwwww" was my go-to response for most of this episode. Stand out moments for me were: CSY's reaction to the confession, her hunting him down and coercing him into having dinner with her, DMJ's pining and petty jealousy, the epilogue where he showed up at the mountain, among other scenes that made my heart hurt.

And the part where SY says that what he feels for her, whether she was a substitute for another girl, is more important than his alien/vampire/monster identity? EPIC.

The cliffhanger though! Aaaaaaaagh. Next Week, come sooner please!

I do not believe that Min-joon, a Professor of Human Behavior/Psychology, would be so foolish to believe that Jae-Kyung will leave Song-yi alone if he confesses to all of Jae-Kyungs crimes.....SERIOUSLY...??? If the writers take that route, that is an epic fail of character inconsistency!

I am not sure what the writers are going to weave together in the next 7 or 8 episodes, but they better not go into stupid, inconsistent character baloney. That would really ruin this drama.

Song-yi arriving on the movie set - Goddess in motion! - geez could that actress be any more beautiful or what!?! Se-Mi looked so blah in her dark colors and Song-yi filled the room with her presence in that hot pink number! Well done, wardrobe crew!

Min-joon's stupidity already began on around episode 8 or 9, where he failed to realize he should just hand in the USB, which should expose a lot of things if not all, to prosecutor office, despite he had had 400 years' experience living in human world and with his supposed smarts.

It is sad the writers chose to drag this little crime case to 20 episodes. Min-joon's superman ability is too great to be wasted on this rather little thing. They could have focused on better stories given the room provided by his ability.

I'm not good at English, but will try to present my point of view with my poor vocabulary

I actually think MJ decision based on good reasons

CSY is the only witness of YR's and JK's connection/relationship hence she is a danger existence for JK. And she already told the detectives. More over, the only physic proof untill now is the USB which was already reclaimed by JK.

There are some options to take CSY out of danger:

One, stay by CSJ side 24/7 which is impossible cause he'll leaving soon.

Two, take CSJ with him, which he stated cannot happen (we dont exactly know why)

Three, take out JK, which i don't think MJ, in his right mind, will do even if it's the last resource, because he is not a cold blood murderer.

And lastly, four, this murder case need to be closed. If the investigate continue on, it might take months/years for the truth to come out. Untill that time, I don't think JK or his fellow will be locked off, and MJ wont be there all the time to protect CSY. So, with no physic proof, to prevent those detectives to investigate deeper, the only and quickest solution (without CSJ involvement) is some else take the blame.

Hence the only solution at this time is number four, which MJ see no harm in doing since he will leaving soon, he got nothing to lose. Once the case closed, CSY knowledge of JL and YR is no threat anymore. No reason for JK to harm CSY. (Here, I assume MJ did not count on CSY reaction when she learn of his confession)

So i think if MJ decided to take the blame then it really was based on good thoughts, not his trust at JK promise but actually on reality and hoping JK will keep it.

I'm still in the denial stage... Thinking about things that have nothing to do with the plot, like at the very beginning when Song Yi took off her earrings, were they clip-ons?? Because she just pulled them off O_O it's not that simple....
And I'm so confused... That guy in Joseon in the prologue; how did that huge boulder get on his leg?? If he couldn't get it off, how did it get there in the first place??

So these things have nothing to do with the plot, but I'm just ignoring that for now so I don't have to think about there not being an episode tomorrow TT_TT

Again, I insist this movie has to end well. I just love the couple so much. The cheek pinching scene was priceless.

I have a question about the language used in this. Since technically DMJ doesn't have an age does he just use formal language with everyone?

Since CSY used to speak formally when he was her lecturer and then switched to formal language assuming he was younger than her and now reverts back to formal language upon hearing DMJ never liked her. Has DMJ always used formal language?

And I assume he uses formal language when speaking to Lawyer Jang too?

(I know this is kind of a random question but I'm curious)

I can hear DMJ speak a lot of formal language too but I think it depends in his mood. Usually, he informally shouts at CSY and then switch back to formal whenever he talks to elder ones.

Unfortunately, details like that get lost in translation, taking away from the emotions that actually are being transmitted. I think Viki, once in a while will note in parentheses if there is a change in language formality/informality. I appreciate it when a site does that.

favorite part of the episode: he says he can´t go out to eat with her or take a walk on the beach, and then she takes him to a restaurant and the do just that, eat together and walk on the beach. what he thinks impossible, the guy with superpowers, the woman can do for you. you dont need to be a superhero or an alien in a relationship, just be a man.

My fave part was the epilogue, so cute!
And thank you Chun Song Yi for pointing out that it really doesn't matter who/what he is as long as he loves her, you hear that Do Manager?! Although off frm dramaland we should care, heck we should do more than a double checks on men coming to us but I don't want a taste of bitter reality here, not in dramaland.
One more thing, Do Manager...I opt for you to just kill JK, just do it...think of it as helping a rabies dog. Enough with the nobility the idiocy!
