You From Another Star: Episode 11

Hilarious with a side of heart-wrenching. The ticking clock grows even more insistent for our hero as we learn another crucial detail from his past, and it sure puts him between a rock and a hard place. He’s damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t, it’s starting to seem. Well, given a future of damnation, is it too much to ask for lots of love and skinship in the interim? Can’t he at least enjoy it while he’s got it?

RECAP: ELEVENTH RECORD

Jae-kyung draws Min-joon out of the city for a private chat—or rather, a private murder, though when we’re talking about Jae-kyung I guess you’re dealing with equal odds there. Jae-kyung pulls a dart gun on him and declares his intention to tie up both his loose ends—first Min-joon, then Song-yi.

He pulls the trigger, but Min-joon vanishes. He reappears behind Jae-kyung to warn him to stop his villainy. Jae-kyung is rattled, especially when he whirls around and finds nobody there.

Min-joon reappears before his eyes and Jae-kyung shoots a second time, only to have Min-joon vanish again. What’s significant isn’t that Min-joon saves himself but that he’s chosen to reveal himself fully—he could have acted without betraying his powers, but he’s taking the risk to make Jae-kyung understand that he can’t kill Min-joon (and therefore Song-yi).

Jae-kyung screams for Min-joon to show himself, but this time Min-joon just knocks him out from behind. Jae-kyung crumples.

In Min-joon’s library, Killer Secretary ducks behind the table (having been sent to plant Min-joon’s forged suicide note) when Song-yi enters. He readies a weapon, but stops when Song-yi takes a phone call and tells her brother where she is.

Song-yi casually makes her way out, but the second she’s home she starts trembling violently. We now see the scene from her perspective, as she’d spotted Killer Secretary’s reflection in the bookcase glass.

She orders Yoon-jae to call security, and is shrewd enough to sense danger when a knock sounds at her door. The voice reminds her of the “doctor” who drugged her the night her car almost ran off the cliff, and she double-checks with security, who confirms that they hadn’t sent anyone up yet.

Now her worries turn to Min-joon, since he would have been the intruder’s target. She calls while he’s in his car, shivering and weak—ah, one of Jae-kyung’s tranquilizer darts found its mark, and he’s feeling the effects. But the moment he hears Song-yi mention an intruder, he poofs out immediately to appear at her front door.

Min-joon hangs on just long enough to ascertain that Song-yi is okay, then collapses in her arms. Song-yi and Yoon-jae drag him to bed, where little bro looks at his noona with suspicious eyes—when did she and the neighbor man get so close? Does she like him? Song-yi blusters that there’s no way she’d get stuck liking somebody one-sidedly, and that just makes Yoon-jae think even more that she’s stuck in an unrequited crush.

But the more pressing concern is how cold Min-joon is, and Song-yi wonders how he could be reading a 28 degree (Celsius) temperature (or 82 degrees Fahrenheit). She supposes the thermometer might be broken, but it sure is strange.

Se-mi and her mother wait anxiously at the hospital while brother Seok is treated after his attack in the parking lot. Fortunately he wasn’t killed, but unfortunately his absence means that Detective Park is left to work on the case alone… and as we’ve seen, he ain’t exactly the brains of the investigation. Let’s hope he can manage on his own.

The only clue is the distinctive fountain pen left beside Seok’s body (planted, after being stolen from Min-joon’s desk), which (conveniently!) happens to be a limited edition. It bears no fingerprints, but there’s a shortlist of those who ordered it, and the detective gets to work tracking the owners down.

At the chaebols’ breakfast table, Hwi-kyung mulls over his growing suspicions about his brother and asks his parents about hyung’s ex-wife and if she really went to England. I’m not sure whether they’re uncomfortable because of the reason they cite—it’s not their place to keep in touch with an ex-family member—or because they know anything, but Hwi-kyung isn’t content to let the matter slide today.

When Jae-kyung joins the table, Hwi-kyung asks directly about the ex-wife’s whereabouts and starts to ask about “that phone call” that he’d overheard. But Chaebol Dad cuts him off to tell him to let the matter go, and that’s that. For now.

Over at Song-yi’s, Yoon-jae gapes to see his noona attempting to be domestic by cooking breakfast (albeit badly). She happily goes off to wake Min-joon, but has a hard time stirring him. This flashes us back to Joseon, when Min-joon had lain unconscious and injured.

It’s the famed doctor Heo Jun who tends to him, which is particularly funny because Min-joon’s arrival actually contradicts his legendary reputation; while his followers are fawning over their teacher’s skills, said teacher is gulping because he’s stumped by the case.

Min-joon recovers speedily despite that, and Heo Jun comments on his unorthodox vital readings. Min-joon answers honestly, pointing up at the stars and saying that he comes from a faraway planet.

Min-joon wakes to see Song-yi hovering above him, and she asks the question that’s been lingering in her mind for a while: Is he ill? Maybe terminal? He tells her no and heads for the door, keeping his replies curt and declining to stay for breakfast. Song-yi tries to detain him with excuses—she wants to repay the favor, she’s worried someone may still be in his place—but he waves those aside and leaves anyway. (Little bro witnesses this all and teases about the crush she keeps denying she has.)

Song-yi darts out to follow Min-joon, only to find that Se-mi has arrived. She’s itching with curiosity to be left out of the conversation, especially when Min-joon invites Se-mi in.

Next thing we know, Song-yi is clinging to her wall, trying to overhear the conversation going on next door. How did Min-joon hear her so easily when she can’t hear a thing?

Se-mi has come because of her brother’s attack, having heard that he’d gone to meet Min-joon. She asks if anybody knew of their meeting because the ambush seemed premeditated, and Min-joon has a pretty good idea who to blame. He admits to feeling partly responsible and assures Se-mi he’ll do what he can to help, though he doesn’t share his suspicions about Mr. Evil.

Se-mi sighs that it’ll be difficult to nail down a culprit, having heard that the only evidence found was a pen. Min-joon notes that detail with interest.

As Song-yi presses her ear to the wall and mutters about the length of Se-mi’s visit, Min-joon’s super-hearing catches her comments and he laughs to himself. He puts the stern face back on when he exits with Se-mi, though, just as Song-yi darts out pretending to run into them by chance.

She invites herself along on Min-joon’s grocery store trip, though she takes a moment to change out of her pajamas. He ignores her request to wait, leaving with out her.

Undeterred, Song-yi goes to the supermarket anyway, where she catches up to him and chatters away, asking about his food preferences. They’re completely opposite in their tastes, but she just chirps that at least they’ll never fight over food as long as they live—and that phrasing stops him in his tracks. He tells her firmly that they won’t do anything together forever, then refuses her offer of a ride. Poor girl. If only she knew he ignores because he loves!

Meanwhile at S&C Group, Jae-kyung cancels a meeting citing illness, which certainly grabs Hwi-kyung’s interest, since he just saw hyung looking healthy. He takes the opportunity to visit his brother’s office and offers to wait for his return, then uses the time to attempt snooping. Alas, Jae-kyung’s desk drawers are locked tight. Can’t keep so much evil just lying around, y’know.

Song-yi sits in an armchair and explains her problem to an unseen audience, as though in therapy: There’s a man who was very considerate of her feelings (buying her the food she wanted, staying with her overnight at the hospital, tending to her injuries), and as a result she started to feel something for him. But the minute she confessed, he turned cold and stopped talking to her. So, the question: “Does he have feelings for me, or not?”

A hand slams down the “Yes” light. It’s the manhwa store crew, who now argue whether Min-joon likes her or not. Bok-ja and Red Tracksuit say no, but Blue Tracksuit argues that he could just be playing hard to get. Song-yi’s reaction goes from disappointment to hope and back to resignation when Bok-ja points out that men will go after the woman they like. Thus rejecting a girl who has confessed smacks of disinterest. Pop! Bubble burst.

On the other hand, Bok-ja says that she’s come this far, so she may as well make one strong advance. Yes, do that! Throw yourself at him, go for iiiiiiiit. With that in mind, Song-yi drops by Min-joon’s apartment just as he’s leaving on a fishing trip and invites herself along.

In the car ride, Song-yi points out that she was voted the star most men wanted to date, trying to understand why he doesn’t seem keen to join those ranks. She asks about his lack of response to her confession, though she shuts up quickly when he asks pointedly, “Want to get out of the car?”

Upon arrival at the lake, Song-yi amuses herself by running on the frozen surface and frolicking on the ice, while Min-joon stoically sets up his fishing station. Song-yi bounces around in high spirits until finally Min-joon grabs her impatiently and cuts to the chase: “Did you really come all the way here because you wanted to hear my answer?”

Song-yi replies, “No, I wanted to be with you.” Still, she does want to hear his answer, so he delivers it coldly. “I dislike you. And with you acting like this, I dislike you even more.” He explains helping her out of pity, mixed with curiosity over her celebrity status. Had he known she would misinterpret his actions, he wouldn’t have behaved that way.

She asks what he’d like from her, and he says without hesitation, “I’d like to not have to ever see you again.”

That stings, but even as Song-yi sheds a tear she asks, “Why does it sound like you’re lying to me?” There’s not much she can do, however, so she turns and walks away. She’s sobbing by the time Hwi-kyung screeches up in his car to pick her up.

As they drive back to the city, Song-yi cries her heart out over the pain of rejection (never having felt it before) and Hwi-kyung plays the sympathetic best friend, sharing what he’s learned from being dumped (by her), consoling her that it’ll get better as time passes.

Hwi-kyung advises her on what not to do, like listening to sad songs or calling in the middle of the night, reminding her how much she hated when he did that. Song-yi says ruefully that the mean girl who dumped him should’ve accepted his feelings back then. If they’d dated, they would have broken up naturally and Hwi-kyung could have gone on to meet a nice woman.

Back at the lake, Min-joon is joined by Lawyer Jang, who chuckles that he was happy to come out fishing because his wife’s nagging is getting worse with age. Min-joon asks what it’s like to age side by side, voice tinged with longing: “I want to grow old together.”

They sit out in the cold for a while until Lawyer Jang notices that Min-joon’s looking unwell, and Min-joon agrees to call it a night. Lawyer Jang worries at Min-joon’s growing sensitivity to cold, and Min-joon shares something a doctor once told him.

Joseon flashback. Heo Jun has now accepted Min-joon’s origin story and asks whether he will be able to return home. Min-joon replies that the path will open up if the universe cooperates, but until then he must wait.

Heo Jun has a concern, though, saying that the human body requires a balance of yin and yang to survive, and when one’s energy flows counter to the cosmos, pain will result. Because Min-joon’s energy does not belong here, sooner or later he will not be able to survive, and thus Heo Jun urges him to return home before that happens.

Which is why Min-joon now supposes that his recent changes are a sign of that time approaching. And even if he wanted to remain here indefinitely, it may not be in his power: “If I thwart the laws of nature to remain here, it will likely not be long before I die.”

Song-yi mopes at home, indulging in a solo soju party that night and waking with a hangover. Ha, at least her pity party inspires Yoon-jae to start studying; he says watching her last night taught him the importance of not living recklessly. Song-yi wonders what he’s talking about, and then come the flashbacks, in quick and horrifying succession:

There’s the drunken sad serenade, the wild cackling, the sobbing, the desperate screaming of “Do Managerrrrrrrrr!”

Song-yi checks her phone… and cringes to see the 19 calls she made to Min-joon in the middle of the night. Present Song-yi shrinks in mortification while reliving Past Song-yi’s descent into madness.

Another thought occurs to her, so she logs on to her texting app and gasps to see the string of bitter, pleading messages: “You bastard!” and “You damned jerk!” which turns into “Can’t you reconsider?” and “I’ll be really good.”

Another memory attacks, and Song-yi shrieks at the recollection of herself banging on Min-joon’s door. When he opens up, she sobs over her glittery heels (“the ones you liked so much you stole from me”) and offers them to him as a gift. That’s hilarious and strangely sweet.

Hwi-kyung checks that his brother has left for the day, then snoops in Jae-kyung’s room. There he finds not only hyung’s passport but also that of the ex-wife who’s supposedly in England.

In a flashback to a few hours earlier, we see Hwi-kyung approaching Min-joon and thanking him for calling him last night—and for saving Song-yi twelve years ago. Min-joon sticks to his denial and tells Hwi-kyung to spend his energy protecting Song-yi rather than worrying about his feelings.

Then Min-joon adds, “Protect Song-yi from your brother.” It’s cryptic, but certainly backs up Hwi-kyung’s own misgivings about Jae-kyung.

Jae-kyung, meanwhile, is already on to the next step of his plan, and approaches Song-yi’s mother with a proposition to set up an agency for Song-yi. Mom nearly faints in joy.

Detective Park gets the information on the fountain pen owners, but is stumped to find that none were in the country at the time. One guy was even reported missing and declared dead a couple of years ago.

Min-joon watches footage from his library security camera, watching Song-yi escape an attack from Killer Secretary. To make the threat to her life even more pressing, he then gets a text from Jae-kyung, accompanied by a picture with him and Song-yi’s mother. The note gloats that with Min-joon being so protective of Song-yi, Jae-kyung had to find another way in.

Se-mi is still processing a recent conversation with Hwi-kyung, in which he took back his earlier words about wanting to remain her friend. In light of recent events, he has realized that it’s unfair to her, and would rather that she be happy—he doesn’t want her living the unhappiness he feels. So from now on, he won’t think of her as his friend.

With that on her mind, Se-mi heads over to see Song-yi, who takes a moment to don more glamorous clothes before answering the door. But she admits it readily to Se-mi, saying that she never used to feel awkward around her but felt the need to dress up today—it’s as Se-mi wanted, for Song-yi to think of her as rival.

Se-mi sneers, and Song-yi’s rather surprised to note how twisted Se-mi has become. With genuine concern, she advises, “That’s not good for you. Just live as yourself. Don’t get twisted because of me.”

Se-mi retorts that her life has been twisted plenty thanks to Song-yi. Then without segue, she brings up Song-yi’s rescuer, ready to drop her bomb.

Min-joon waits on a deserted street corner, hand clutching Yura’s USB drive. He has another flash to his premonition of a hand prying that drive out of a hand, whose body lies prone in the street. Ack, was he seeing his own death? Get out get out get ouuuuuut.

And yet, Min-joon ventures into the street anyway. As soon as he does, a car comes barreling toward him, and in the split-second before impact Min-joon jumps up onto the hood of the car. He slams into the windshield and the impact sends him flying into the air. He falls to the asphalt with a thud.

Se-mi taunts Song-yi with her knowledge of her rescuer, laughing at her insistence that she’d recognize him on first glance. She accuses Song-yi of using that man as an excuse to keep Hwi-kyung in her thrall, in love with her and unable to move on: “But then why can’t you recognize him? He’s right next to you.”

Song-yi works out her meaning slowly, not quite ready to comprehend what Se-mi is hinting…

All while Min-joon bleeds onto the street. The USB is wrested from his hand, and he can only watch lifelessly while the pool of blood grows around his head. Nooooooooo!

EPILOGUE

Back at the frozen lake, we relive the moment when Min-joon tells Song-yi he doesn’t want to see her anymore. Sadly, she turns and leaves, fighting tears.

Min-joon stares after her retreating back and stops time. With the snow frozen in mid-air and Song-yi paused mid-step, he walks toward her, takes her hand in his, and kisses her.

COMMENTS

Noooo, you had to take this already impossible dilemma, then add metaphorical cancer to it (’cause the whole “you’ll die if you stay here” thing is basically alien cancer, right?), and THEN hit him with a car? It’s like you’re trying to convince us there’s no way out. Why would you do that to us? Whyyy?

(Yes I wail, but from a narrative standpoint I do think this stuff is all totally compelling. Playing out one obstacle for twenty episodes can drag things down, as we’ve seen in many a rom-com that let things stagnate for too long, but if this show manages to resolve every complication it’s thrown at Min-joon, I will probably be that much more satisfied. Of course, that requires a happy ending with a logic that fully reconciles with the resolution, but I’m going to go ahead and let my hopes fly.)

I wonder why Min-joon let that car hit him, because I don’t know if I can believe that it just happened too quickly for him to process. Maybe that’s what happened, but if he can freeze time with a mere thought, there’s gotta be a better explanation. Furthermore, he had a premonition of this very scenario happening—why? Does this tie in to the concept of fate, which he has mentioned a few times before?

If he was given those previous premonitions about Song-yi’s life, why did he act on those but not on this one? There was a moment when he regarded the USB drive and recalled his vision, so I’m pretty sure he made the mental connection. Furthermore, why did the universe give him those premonitions in the first place? If he were given chances to save either Song-yi’s life or his own, I wouldn’t wonder at it, but that his powers connect him to her piques my curiosity in a way they hadn’t been before.

Yet even with that cosmic connection, I love that the show has let these two fall for each other on their own merits, so that even if there is some Grand Plan out there, I won’t feel cheated about them falling in love because some big jerk in the sky is pulling the strings. (I really do balk at Fate-centric dramas—by which I mean dramas that hinge primarily on Fate enacting events, not dramas that merely mention Fate like this one. You’ll never get completely away from the concept in a K-drama, but I can never get entirely onboard when it’s all about it.) True, Min-joon was drawn to Song-yi partly because he realized she was the girl he’d saved before, but he fell in love with the grown woman, not the girl who looked like the girl from Joseon times.

Now we’ll have to see if Song-yi’s feelings change at all to realize that Min-joon is her mystery man, held up in her memory as her ideal for the last decade. Will she fall for him even harder? Is that even necessary, since she’s so far gone now? I hope the show twists that expectation on its head, as it has done with a lot of its rom-com conventions, because I find that their love story in the present day is gripping enough without the past tying them together.

But first, he’s gotta not die. Don’t die!

Been refreshing like crazy. Thanks for the recaps!

This show is good holding its different grounds. The shifting of emotions from comic to dramatic was handled so well. The comic moments were really hilarious and when the show shifts to it’s quiet, emotional moments–it’s just beautiful and satisfying. I can understand both min joon and song yi’s heart feels the same but they differ in terms of showing it. Min-joon parts himself from her knowing that he can’t stay.
And oh, the final scene stopped my heart. He was freaking run down by the car! Does this mean his powers were slowly weakening? Oh, please no. And one more thing. The prologue was so beautiful. I love how he drove her away then stopped time to be with her… and kiss her!
This show completes me. I’ll dread the day when I won’t have a weekly dose of it anymore. -_-

Yes. I think his powers are weakening, and not as Javabeans speculated - that Min Joon let the car hit him. He wrinkles his forehead whenever he's trying to use his powers (like shut the window when he was cold but failed because he was still ill from the kiss he shared with Song Yi) and he did that to the car. But nothing happened.

Isn't because he kissed Song-Yi? Lawyer Jang said he looked unwell, so I assumed he was starting to get sick from the saliva just like last time. That's why his powers were weakened. But.. thinking about it again, shouldn't he know that would happen if he kissed her? He seemed like he expected he could stop the car.

Oh! When Song-Yi kissed him the first time on the boat, nothing happened! Maybe because it was mostly closed mouth and MJ was careful this time too? That would mean his general loss of energy was to blame. Now I've confused myself...

Something did happen because when he went back to his apartment he landed on top of the staircase then tumbled down hurting himself... then on another occasion he went to land on his feet and hit his tailbone really hard in his apartment lobby.

While i do think the kiss might have something to do with his powers weakening, i feel like it has to do alot more with what the doctor from the joseon era was talking about, about the human body requiring a balance of yin and yang to survive and all that stuff about energy flow. I feel like now that his time is running out on earth, his alien powers are weakening. That's why he has to go home soon, else his "feeling cold" is just the beginning of many more weaknesses to come. :(
How will the writer get min joon out of this one, i wonder..

I'm secretly hoping that as his alien powers fade he becomes human and can grow old with song yi and live happily ever after.

The kiss made MJ's body temperature shot up and he had the fever. Back in Joseon, when Min-joon was attended by the famed doctor Heo Jun, MJ was poisoned by arsenic and his body temperature dropped and he experienced the chill .

The poison dart from from creepy JK made MJ's body temperature dropped and he had the chill.

Just an observation, love to hear comments by others on this.

I think this was another fake death and the reason why he met Lawyer Jang before it happened. I don't think he is dead, just unconscious and what better witness than JK.

@Kiara: That's an interesting theory! It would actually be interesting if he fakes his own death, Song Yi finds out and is devastated, then meets Min Joon again only to have him pretend to be someone else and not know her. Of course this would be a great excuse to have him sport a new hot hairstyle.

LOL I have it all planned out in my head haha

0

@Bloops

He said before that he served in the army 49 times already so that means that every time he fakes his death he starts over with a new identity.

I think he planned the whole thing from the way it was filmed. We saw how it was going to happen before it actually happened. He kissed Song-Yi and that made him weak so when he is hit by the car he would sustain believable injuries. He purposely stepped in front of the car knowing who was behind the wheel otherwise why would he carry the USB with him.
JK may have the original USB but I think MJ made copies of it.

He expected to stop the arrows too, but that didn't work.

Exactly my thoughts. I think his powers didn't worked out that exact moment he willed it to be. And omo, omo. He's not going to die or something right? Right? RIGHT?

I agree with Aisling. I thought because of the after-effects of the kiss he became weaker (he mentioned he felt cold and Lawyer Jang commented that he looked sick) and it looked like he tried to freeze time and was surprised to see it unfreeze on its own. It didn't look like he jumped onto the hood of the car either, but I could be wrong.

If you think about it, when his coworker spat into his coffee and he was trying to save the younger Lawyer Jang he froze time but then stumbled, causing time to momentarily unfreeze itself too. So this scene reminded me of that.

I agree that he should have understood that premonition though, but he never saw the person's face in his premonition, so he might not have known it was going to happen.

Just my two cents though.

Only 11 episodes in-he can't die! but what's so shockingly horrible about it is all the blood pooling around his head, and at one point, he had the open eyed dead stare.
Since I live in Europe, I was able to see it on Viki early, and I felt shocked and awful, as though it was real.
You know, it doesn't matter whether it's a realistic story, a fairytale, silly rom-com or fantasy like this one-the storyline still has to make sense, and if they turn Semi good overnight like they did Young Do, I'll be really disappointed. However, if he dies and comes back to life it wouldn't necessarily be stupid-it could just turn out to be something else we don't know about aliens. So that could happen.
But-as Semi confessed-they didn't have a friendship in the first place, to be restored, so that shouldn't happen.

I don't think Young Do became good overnight. He was deep down good; he had a good mother. He and Kim Tan made those rules, but once he meets ES YD remembers that he was good. Although YD's father did an abrupt about face that was puzzling. I think when YD mother left it affected both YD and his father more than either realized.

Was the kiss spoiled before the episode aired? Did SBS release stills of the kiss in the preview? Because some of the timed comments on Viki said, "Ooh, this is where he kisses her!" So when she walked away from him, I was like, huh? Only until the epilogue I realized that was the kiss they were talking about.

Thanks for the recap! ^^

It's the character beats that make this show for me, and this episode seemed to know exactly the right way to grab my heart and squeeze. The simple universal (*weak cymbal*) things tend get me in the gut the most, like Song-yi admitting she followed Min-joon because she just wanted to be with him, or him wanting something as normal and human as just growing old with someone he loves. Oof. With a premise like aliens and movie stars, you sure know how to sneak attack my emotions and play them like a fiddle, show.

Not to mention the hilarious but painfully accurate Oh God I've Done Something Terrible Because Of Alcohol flashback sympathy pangs nearly put me on the floor with Song-yi, talk about relatable.. ._.

Yeah the two lines that got me were the ones you mentioned. First from song yi when she said she simply wanted to be with him(i was expecting her to say she just wanted an answer, so that response was also a sneak attack on me). Next was when min joon said he wanted to grow old with her. Man, these characters know exactly what to say to make me feel for them.

Baek Ji Young Praises Jun Ji Hyun’s Singing
by Lellie January 24, 2014

"Singer Baek Ji Young praised actress Jun Ji Hyun’s singing.

On the episode of SBS’ Wednesday – Thursday drama “Man from the Stars,” which aired on January 22, there was a scene where Chun Song Yi (played by Jun Ji Hyun) passionately sang to Baek Ji Young’s “Like Being Shot by a Bullet” after being rejected by Do Min Joon (played by Kim Soo Hyun).

On January 23, Baek Ji Young posted on her SNS account, “I laughed and cried watching Jun Ji Hyun sing ‘Like Being Shot by a Bullet’ on ‘Man from the Stars.’ She was so emotional. That’s how you’re supposed to sing.”

Along with the message, the singer also posted the scene from the drama of Jun Ji Hyun singing the song with mascara running down her face."

Her offering up her heels as sacrifice was priceless.
We all know how much she loooves those heels so when she came knockin' on his door hysterically crying with heels in hand, i almost died for her. That desperation that comes with her falling in love makes her 10 times more endearing. She's so forthright with her feelings and acts upon it -- in the most epic and flawed ways.
Forget those heroines that get all wishy washy with their feelings. Song-Yi walks that fine line of playing hard to get while seducing her target. Us = Target
Target = Seduced

Spot on mate. I absolutely love how imperfect she is. It's interesting because she spends her whole life building this strong reputation to uphold her brand image, yet she draws the audience in through her flaws and desperation. Ironically, its her eccentricities, antics, and flaws that makes us develop that sense of empathy with her character. Beyond that though, I love how straightforward she is with herself, and in tackling her issues. She doesn't pass herself up to be a damsel in distress, however, she confidently stands her ground and fight for herself. In a more serious note, it's these traits that draws me to her character. Cheon Song Yi redefines how a drama heroine should be. In many ways, that's the reason why she is, in my opinion, the best character kdrama has offered us.

What a great ep., this ep. was. I have liked DMJ for a long time, and I feel like he is a man after my own heart. I really love the quiet moments in this drama, I feel that they are well balanced with the humor, and the mystery, and the super natural aspects of the story. I loved that SY continued to stand up for herself, and that she had the courage to keep pushing through MJ’s barriers, and tried to find out what he thought of her. Even though MJ was being a noble idiot, I understood why he was doing it. How do you explain to someone that you are not human, and that you will have to leave soon, or you might (possibly) die? I feel that I am partly in denial, because I am still hoping (somehow) that MJ and SY can have their HEA, even though I am not sure myself how that would come about. It is probably why I am not the writer of this drama.

I did have some questions, while watching this ep. Also, I have been rewatching the series, because one of my roommates is discovering Kdramas with this drama. I appreciate being able to notice things I had not noticed when I first watched the episodes, and having someone (physically) close to discuss the episodes with.

So here are some of my questions:

1-In one of the past ep., HK is made to bring some drinks to his sunbaes. Is this something that happens (or better yet “that happens often”) in the Korean culture, in the workplace? And if it is the case, is the hoobae (sp?) expected to pay for the drinks out of his/her own pocket? I was kind of curious about that, since, HK can afford the drinks, since he is not poor. I was just wondering how that would be like for someone who might be starting out of college or out of school (financially), and how often the hoobae (sp?) would be expected to get drinks or run other errands for the sunbaes. Would that be the whole time s/he is at the company or until other hoobaes (sp?) come in and have to take on those “responsibilities?”
Also please, understand that I am not trying to judge the work culture (or at least what I have seen so far in Kdramas), and that I am merely curious and putting my questions out there, since it is one of the ways to find out. Thank you! I think I have also seen in dramas instances when co-workers go and have a drink, or go out to eat, and the sunbaes offer to pay. Again, I was just trying to get a sense of how things go, in the work culture.

2-When SY was trying to listen to MJ and SM’s conversation, she said, “When there is a distinction between man and woman, what are they doing at home?” (viki’s translation). I am assuming that SY was jealous when she said that, however, what did she mean by it? (I would just like some clarity). 3-Was I the only one who wondered what the other five elements of the universe might be (mentioned by the doctor)? Again, I was just being curious. 4-Was that carbonated water that came out of her fridge door? (when SY went to get some water). That water looked fizzy. Maybe that was another PPL. 5-Also, any links to instrumental pieces of this drama would be appreciated. I have not come across those links on YT yet. I really love the instrumental pieces in this drama.

2. It's a Confucian saying that man and woman are separate, that they have different spheres and therefore they should not mingle. During the Joseon era, which was a hard core Confucian society, outside their immediate family, boys and girls over 7 years of age were not allowed to be in the same room. Thus SY was nitpicking (using an outdated Confucian saying) what can a grown up man and woman doing in the same space.
3. Yin and yang and 5 elements-I remember them simply by the names of the days in a week. Sunday-yang; Mo(o)nday-yin; Tuesday (in Korean Fire Day)-fire; Water Day-water; Tree Day-wood; Gold Day-metal.

1.) The rookie employee running errands at a workplace is a common thing, since Korea's etiquette system relies heavily on age and level of experience.

Usually, it's until someone younger/less experienced comes in to take over that position of the rookie. I'm not sure about whether the hoobae pays out of their own pocket, but whenever a sunbae asks them to go do something, it's the position of the hoobae to run and do the errand without complaints.

It's a form of respect that's inherently important in Korean culture, and it's present in all professional environments as well as with friends and family.

2.) She was just saying something along the lines of, "What could a man and woman be doing together alone?" She was just making clear that DMJ and YSM are of different genders and thus, she's more suspicious of what's going on because of that.

3.) I didn't quite catch all of them, sorry!

4.) LOL i think it was just PPL for the refrigerator.

5.) I'm not sure about instrumental pieces in the "modern" part of the drama, but when the drama transitions to the sageuk era for DMJ's flashbacks, most of the tracks used are from The Painter of the Wind's OST (a fantastic sageuk drama). If you type that in, it can probably be found on youtube.

Hope that cleared up most of your questions~!

4. Yes, it was PPL for the fridge but it was carbonated water. You can purchase fridges that dispense carbonated water in Korea. The advertisements for the fridge recommend carbonated water for cooking your rice and even washing your face with it.

Hi Rachelle,

And thank you for your response. Interesting titbits about the carbonated water, and how it is being used in ads.

You know, I have been thinking about SY and MJ, their relationship, and how they interact with each other. I am loving the fact that in his lectures, MJ sounded superior to humans, when it came to emotions, and how he sounded convinced that he would not behave like them (ever). He thought he was above that. Added to that was the fact that (imho), YH's death (to protect him), must have traumatized him. I concluded that it must have been when MJ decided to not become attached to humans, and not interfere in their affairs (the dad who ended up gambling was another reason, of course. That and his belief in fate, I think). Interesting then, how in the end, MJ wishes that he could live some of those human emotions.

As I have been rewatching the drama, it has been interesting to me to see how MJ has come to change, and listening to SY list all the things he had done for her (since she had “known” him) was a good reminder of how little by little, MJ was getting attached to SY, and giving in to many of her demands. I especially loved it when she flirted with him, or acted with aegyo, and he let her have her way.

I loved the kiss, however, it was only about an hour ago that it dawned on me that MJ was not ready to let her go (in his heart). Of course he is not, since he is in love with her. I just feel now that there is added meaning to the kiss (or maybe it is just me reading too much into it). We do know that MJ would love to be able to be with SY, especially since he admitted to Lawyer Jang that he would like to grow old with her. But then, to act in such a way that she would feel rejected (without a doubt, though she did doubt it), and act as if he is ready to let her go, and then freeze time, walk to her, hold her hand AND kiss her (stealing a kiss from her), adds more meaning to how hard MJ is trying to chase SY away, experiencing heartbreak as well in the process. That scene was so well done, and said so much, without any words needed.

Completely agree with you about the whole fate aspect.
That theme been brought up in the first couple of episodes but since then I don't think it's been brought up again. Min Joon and Song-Yi has fallen in love because he chose to include himself in her life and vice versa.
I read a few complaining about the fate stuff, but truth be told it's not like this show is centered on it like it was in MTETS. Come on, every episode there was no escaping it and we always had to hear about the moon and the sun and how there can only be one moon and that they were destined to be together under one sky.
Personally i think in YFAS fate has presented itself more in the form of a second chance. Hopefully history wont repeat itself and Min Joon won't have to lose Song-Yi like he did Yi-hwa. Sure you could argue their paths have crossed because of fate to an extent, but their path to falling in love was rooted in their choices and because one person cared.
If Gumiho and Dae Woong managed to find their happily ever after in MGIG then Min Joon and Song Yi will, no excuses.

Maybe the show is playing off the concept of balance, yin and yang? Joeson SY saw the arrow and threw herself in front of it to protect MJ. Modern MJ saw the threat of JK and puts himself in his path to protect SY. Maybe?

Something I'll be interested to see is why MJ outed himself to JK, when it would have been easier to just avoid danger by freezing time, knocking JK out and leaving JK to question his own sanity. Then eliminate the threat of JK by sleuthing evidence and exposing his true identity to the police.

There are so many great possibilities with a more mortal MJ. It'd be great to see how MJ's injuries (and unusual vitals) might play out in a hospital setting. The drama has poked fun at so many genres and tropes, I'd look forward to seeing what they'd do with this one. Or, they could go for a miraculous medical intervention by the aliens. After all, we've already seen alien ships in the modern skies. Maybe they haven't abandoned him, but he's been an unwitting subject of their experiments all-along. Or they could play with the storyline of "Ghost" for a while. If SY takes up a sudden interest in making pottery, we'll know that's coming. That'd be one way to get around the pesky saliva problem!

The great thing about this drama is that it can be watched without a lot of angst. Whatever they do, we know it'll be good.

1. I just love Min Joon's character sooo much!!! He's mysterious and cool but at the same time such a frumpy old man, which I find incredibly endearing. Kim Soo-Hyun really sells his age and his conflict with knowing the bad and ridiculous aspects of humanity while still wanting to be part of it. However I am so over his indifferent act with Song-Yi! It's no fun at all *pout* :(

2. Great use of the epilogue this time around! At the end of the episode I was like "Why couldn't he stop it? General loss of powers? I guess that makes sense..." But then the kiss reveal made everything make perfect sense on top of being totally sweet :3. Well done show.

Thanks, javabeans, for a speedy recap!

I interpreted the ending as his powers weakening when he comes into contact with human saliva. So while he could freeze temporarily, it wasn't for as long. It's similar to when he kissed her the first time, recovered from his fever, then could not telekinetically close the window.

Song-yi continues to be one of my favorite female characters in a kdrama. She has enough common sense to act through her escape from the library with a fake phone call and come to the reasonable conclusion that Min-joon might have a terminal illness, since she doesn't know yet about the existence of aliens - I can't wait until she finds out. So had so many funny-poignant scenes expressing a one-sided love (I also love her little bro for catching that detail), and my favorite was perhaps when she was consulting with the staff of the manhwa store. Second lead Hwi-kyung continues to be awesome, as he remains a great friend to Song-yi and Se-mi and starts to become suspicious of his Big Bad Evil Hyung. Lawyer joining Min-joon ice fishing after Song-yi left was so adorable. And frozen moment in the epilogue is the best reason I've seen for a kdrama female to be so stiff while receiving a kiss.

I'm still so in love with this show and really want the writer to give our main leads a true happy ending. Now that Min-joon is longing to grow old with Song-yi, I hope that it happens!

I actually kind of like Hwi-Kyung in these recent episodes. Mostly because he wasn't imposing his feelings on Song-Yi like he usually did in the beginning, but he was just there to be a friend, like you said, to both se-mi and song-yi. I found it nice how he was comforting her using his own experience with his one-sided love for her. I found the whole conversation amusing.

I also like that after finding out about se-mi's feelings for him, he didn't waste time in rejecting her and did it with a friendly heart. Now I just feel like Se-Mi can either choose to move on and live her life or she can remain stuck in the past forever having a one-sided love while living in Song-Yi's shadow. So basically, my sympathy for her wears thin with each passing episode.

I think hwi-kyung will be an important key in discovering his brother's secrets After the reveals, my liking for him will grow depending on his course of action.

Also, noble idiocy has reared its ugly head this episode (sadness), but i do feel like there's more weight to it than your usual "we can't be together because of our disapproving parents, social class, terminal illness, etc"
Here, Min Joon understands that he was not meant to stay on earth and that his time is running out. Song-Yi has mentioned numerous times her ideal is someone who will not leave her and stay by her side forever. The fact that she talks about eating together forever (freudian slip, ha) in the grocery store earlier was both cute and bittersweet because she sees them as a possible forever when Min Joon thinks it's impossible. So, while I get that he has to nip it in the bud, i feel that it's already too late when the girl is already head over heels in love with him.

I don´t know...I'm suspecting that he did it on purpose. He knew what was going to happen with the premonition, and even then headed towards the car, I do not think he was weak. (Only a suspicion)

I share the same perspective towards the car accident.

Given that
1) he recalled the premonition about the USB drive,
2) the kiss was rather chaste and he had sufficient time to get over any side-effects (it was one night after the fishing trip and SY's drunken antics)
I suspect that maybe he let the accident happen so that it'll take JK off his and SY's trail. After all, previous displays of "you can't kill me" to JK were more about him dodging attacks than actually taking a hit without flinching. Maybe he's got an extra copy made for the police too?

I will give this show a big fat applaud if he froze time and in between planned a fake death. If they somehow backtrack in the next episode and then show him pouring out some fake blood and faking his injury, i'd be impressed. It'll also be the perfect timing for him since he's leaving earth anyways and having lawyer jang dispose of his assets and readying his "death".
Personally i don't think this show is gonna go there, because we did see him get hit by the car with his body into the windshield. While we joke about Min Joon being superman, he's definitely not as invincible. :(

I also considered that Min Joon could be faking his death just so he can assume another identity, since the law (and a murderer) is now after him. Only because the prying of the USB out of his hand seemed a bit anti-climatic after he sees the premonition again, recognizes his surroundings from the premonition, and still chooses to walk out into the street.

Song Yi would be devastated at his death, but maybe that's how he wants her to forget him? Plus it would be easier to defeat Hyung incognito with him thinking you're dead.

I almost cried in this episode!
I think his power is decreasing because he kissed Song-Yi earlier, isn't it?

I love the part when he said, "I want to grow old together". Aaaw it's so heart-wrenching :''''''

Prologue, after breaking Song Yi's heart, Do manager (his expression knowing he hurt her bad) freezes time and walks toward her and hold her hand and plants her a kiss (for a few seconds he got to take back the lie he just told her and made up for it with this kiss) *asdfghj* *swoon* *start convulsing*

Yeah this drama just keep getting better and keep pulling my heart strings.. I want more.. Can't wait til tomorrow..

Aw loved the Joseon part with doctor Heo and the timeline was spot on. He would have been in his late 60s early 70s. I missed old school sageuks.

I loved Song Yi's long black and white wrap-dress. I want to buy one like it.

JB thank you so much for recapping this show <3.

The drunk Song Yi flashback was daebak! The ending had me screaming at my screen, "You're not going to end there!!! You're not going to end there!!! Seriously!?!" Then when I realised that that was it I uttered a totally defeated, but still unbelieving, "Really?"

This dramas endings are bad for my blood pressure. Although this epilogue made up for the heartache of Do Min Joon totally shunning Song Yi. Arghhhh!

Loved this epi!
I was never really one for displays of grandeur when dealing with affection (thousand roses/amusement park? No go) so the complete honest awareness that seeps out between the two main characters when dealing with their feelings for each other just gets makes it all the more heart wrenching.

"I just wanted to be with you." "I want to grow old together"
Past the denial and into the simple longing of each other's company.
It just... Gets you right there in the heart. :/

My mom and I watch the drama together and she has a theory that MJ let himself be hit by the car. She believes the reason is to let JK believe he has MJ dead and out of the picture ( especially with the usb in his possesion he thinks he's won). If thats the case then MJ can work and protect Song Yi from the shadows... Just a theory, but i really cannot wait to see how this pans out!

Let Song Yi’s drunken memory loss be a lesson to everyone: Alcohol is bad. Jeon Ji Hyun never ceases to amaze me with how fully she commits to this character. When she was sobbingly pounding on his door, I was like, “Thank goodness he’s not home because he’s out ice fishing”... but oops, there he was. So much secondhand embarrassment. Props to Kim Soo Hyun for not bursting in laughter. Or maybe he did. I want NGs for this scene.

I am so upset Min Joon is losing his powers -- not being able to pause time and potentially dying on Earth. I was afraid Jae Kyung would start shooting in random directions and a lone dart would hit Min Joon as he materialized. And it did. Just like I love how Min Joon has Lawyer Jang in the present, I love how Heo Jun believed Min Joon in the past and wanted the best for him. So apparently, he used to have no qualms about revealing his true nature to humans (the gisaeng, the doctor). Someone must have betrayed him later for him to close himself up. I hope we get to see what happened in flashback.

I am loving the smarter, suspicious Hwi Kyung, but I fear for his life. His advice for Song Yi on how to mend a broken heart was both cute and heartbreaking. “It gets easier with time.” They are like kindred spirits now.

Thanks for the recap, javabeans!

His powers are diminished due to the kissing. If we watch carefully, He did try to stop the car but lost focus and didn't have enough time to escape be4 the car hit him.I think he didn't so anything with the predicment coz he thot it may not be him in the pool of blood. How heart wreching. Just because he wants to love normally, there is a high chance he lose his life.

Jun Ji Hoon is the BEST! She's got variety and does not over-act...simply superb in all the scenes... This episode was the best.

The ending kiss scene was just so beautiful and sad...
Kim S Hyun is superb asa the silent and brooding alien but I hope he emote a little bit more because as an actor he is looking a bit pale next to the queen... Awww I love him and his character so whatever...

The drunk scene got me. I laughed like mad late night watching it and also cried because it reminded me of my heartbreak... I confessed once and the guy just smiled and just wished me well.... totally shattered...I cried like that....

I don't quite understand what the renowned doctor Hur Joon said. If a living being is open to its environment or communicates well with its environment, it feels well but if it is closed off, or cannot communicate well with it, it will feel pain. But assuming that human beings communicate well with earth's nature because it is their native planet after all, still they don't feel well forever and live forever. On the other hand, MJ who is alien to earth and therefore arguably closed off from it, has lived relatively well, without much pain I assume, for the last 400 years.

I am hoping that if he decides to stay because of SY and accepts earth as the place he will die in and thus completely opens himself up to nature, he will feel well but grow old and eventually die with SY here on earth.

"But assuming that human beings communicate well with earth’s nature because it is their native planet after all, still they don’t feel well forever and live forever."

Well, apparently, there was a real news article about how we humans are actually aliens ourselves, that our ancestors crash-landed on earth and had to make do with living here. That's why we grow old, get sick and die so soon. Amazing ain't it?

Yeah it seems there's no other waaaay and the alternative is unthinkable.. I mean after hundreds of years he finally found the reason to stay on this planet. So if he would fully accept living on earth he'd just actually become a mortal with all the pains. Or he needs permission from that UFO ones it arrives lol

For now I am just hoping he is trying to fake his death...

I don't dispute the doctor's idea but I'm finding the timing a bit convenient. MJ's body has been on pause for 400 years, not aging, not adapting, just hanging out waiting to return to the home world. Okay fine. But now 3/2 months before MJ goes home his body is like Nope Had Enough I will Die Now.

I'm hoping that while MJ thinks he's dying what's really happening is he's subconsciously letting his body adapt to Earth's energy because of his feelings for SY.

Thanks so much for the recap! ^^ I absolutely love this drama!

Song Yi's character is so hilarious and she totally did everything she wasn't supposed to after Hwi Kyung warned her based on his own experiences. JJH's daebak! LOL Also, I'm so relieved she got out of Min Joon's library safe and sound from catching the reflection of Killer Secretary in the glass.

The whole confession scene was so heartbreaking as you can see in Min Joon's eyes that his words are totally opposite of his true feelings, just holding back tears as he watches Song Yi break down in front of him. (KSH's eye acting!!)

Seems like there are different theories about Min Joon getting hit by the car towards the end of this ep., whether it was on purpose or due to the weakening of powers. I rewatched that part and it seems that he tried to stop the car as he was staring at it, and he managed to for a mere second or two. But then, the car continued to move forward and his eyes widened in surprise as the car hit him and he realized he will have no time to dodge.

So, from that scene, I get the sense that it's because his powers are growing weak. From feeling cold recently to getting tranquilized by Jae Kyung (probably due to not vanishing fast enough the 2nd time), he is already not feeling well. The epilogue's kiss was really unexpected and so sweet. <3 But since time was frozen, I don't think there was any saliva involved; hence, I don't think that's the reason for his weak state. Probably more of what Heo Jun had pointed out during Joseon times that his lack of balance will lead him to eventually have his "energy" run out... Even though he has had multiple premonitions regarding the USB being whisked out of someone's hand and that person lying on the ground, I'm not sure if he'd realized that was himself until this scene because he might not have thought he'd ever be in this kind of situation where he lacked the powers to freeze time (unlike the time with Song Yi and her shoes when he knew exactly who it involved and wanted to save her).

I love that despite all the denial that Min Joon is giving Song Yi, he still appeared immediately at her door at the opening of this ep. when he learned about the intruder at his place. He cares about her safety more than his own well-being. I really hope Song Yi will realize that Min Joon is "the one" that she has been searching for all these years soon and grab onto him despite the circumstances that are against them. No matter how the writer will settle on the ending (*crossing fingers for happy ending*), I hope they will make the most of the time they have together so that we can see lots of cute and funny scenes. =P

I love Kim Soo Hyun's eyes because they speak a thousand words without him having to say anything. It helps considering he's playing a character that isn't supposed to show much at all. (Is anyone else sad that he was so happy in the joseon era but so jaded/unfazed in modern times?)

I agree with your theory on that hit-and-run scene. I don't totally agree that the kiss is what weakened him, and i don't agree 100% that he faked his death(although i love this show, maybe that's too much credit we're giving?)
I think it all goes back to what that joseon doctor said, else what's the point in including that scene and long explanation of yin/yang? Min Joon is slowly losing his energy/power after staying on earth for so long. His powers are weakening, and we just need to figure out why (i feel like it's far beyond a simple switching of saliva).
This theory of his powers weakening aligns with his reaction -- he tried to freeze time but was shocked when his powers failed on him. Either min joon's a really good actor, or he truly did not expect time to unfreeze, which is also why i think it was not planned.

When did the reputable Do Min Joo turn into a kissing bandit? Stealing smooches from a weepy Miss ain't right!

On the other hand, maybe Do Min Joo's body, not the brain, is trying to survive by actively seeking out the Ying to his Yang. If Min-Joo listens to what the doctor ordered, a side of Song-Yi might be the solution to a prolonged stay on Earth.

I couldn't see any escape for Min Joo this time :( Doesn't it says in the early episodes that he can't mix human's saliva and blood with his own (or is it only saliva)? Then, how is he going to survive the accident? Seeing Min Joo's blood pooling, the hospital will transfers him blood surely. But, it will only worsens his condition, doesn't it?

Aargggh, can't wait for the next episodeeee!

maybe he didn't let the car hit him?

throughout the drama you could see that he was getting weaker. and him kissing Songyi prob. made him even more weaker.

so I think he really doesn't have that much control over his powers anymore...
that or...
he planned his death this whole timeeeee!!

dear lord this drama is going to give me a heart attack.

why do i have these feeling that it's min joon's decision that he get hit with that car because he start to realize how much he love song yi and afraid that she'll be so sad when he's gone. plus it's only two months more, he needs to settle everything for song yi now before his body become weaker by the day and that include getting rid of Jae Kyung. maybe he's thinking to get rid jae kyung while everyone believe he's dead ..
that's my opinion. perhaps i need to stay cool while watching this drama or i'm gonna be insane waiting every week :(

Agreed. Se-Mi is a first-class bitch. Which is disappointing because I had such high hopes for her character. She's blaming Song Yi for Hwi-Kyung's feelings which Song Yi is not responsible for. She should move on with her life and stop acting like a bitch, and her classic passive-aggressive behavior is such a turn off.

Is anyone else loving Song Yi's brother Yoon-jae? He's so cool! I love the dynamics between him and his noona - it's fun to watch how deeply he cares for his noona and their sibling squabbling is hilarious.

I'm glad that Hwi-Kyung's getting smarter and becoming suspicious of his hyung. When push comes to shove, I wonder who he'll chose to support Song-Yi or his brother? Will his loyalty to his first love trump over his loyalty to his brother? I think so. He's basically good at heart. Can't wait to watch today's episode to see where it's all going!

I've been screaming Do Min Jooooooooooooooooooon the whole day because of this drama. What a refreshing thing to see leads being smart: Song Yi getting out of danger through fast thinking and great acting and Hui Kyeong being suspicious of his brother. In a usual drama with a situation like Song Yi's the girl would've already been kidnapped by now.

The emotions are overflowing in this episode. This is the first time I cried hard while watching this drama. I did cry a little before but Min Joon saying he wants to grow old together with Song Yi just broke me so bad. He didn't even cry in that scene. It's just the raw emotion of him wanting something so badly. It's so simple, growing old with someone you love, and yet it's impossible for him to do that. Ahhh, I think I'm going to cry again.

But of course, the episode is not all tears coz well, Cheon Song Yi. HAHAHAHHAHA. She's just freaking hilarious!

Se Mi is getting darker every episode. She's easily swayed by her emotions and I think she's getting controlled by her own feelings. Her outbursts makes the story go forward so I'm not complaining. :)

And Song Yi's new friends! HAHAHAHAHA. For some reasons they seem perfect to be her friends. They're cute!

Sigh, Min Joon won't die but still!!! What's going to happen tomorrow will bother me so much I might not get sleep. It's a good thing I'm off from work tomorrow.

Thanks so much for the recaps, javabeans!

To end my comment... DO MANAGERRRRRRR!!!!

Same here. I keep saying Do Min Joon-shi every now and then -- or even DO MANAGER just cause this show occupies a huge chunk of my mind throughout the week.

I feel like even if we get heartbreak we'll still get laughs because Song-Yi as a character owns probably 90% of the comedic effect. It's just nice to know that even if shit hits the fan we can always expect Jeon Ji Hyun to deliver on the laughs. I reaaaally wanna see more BTS on her hilarious drunken shenanigans and craziness because i bet the staff are all laughing once the director yells cut.

I love love love how everyone's upping their security around Song-Yi in her times of need. It's so true how she mentioned that even if she's hit rock bottom, she's been given the chance to root out those that are true to her. The fact that her brother now lives with her to lowkey look after her, the fact that Min Joon protects her, the fact that she's made some unlikely friends at the manhwa store is so heartwarming.

I assume MJ striked some kind of deal with JK (to ensures SY's safety) that's why he went to hand over the USB. Of course JK, being the evil guy that he is, wants MJ dead as well.
I think MJ knew what would happen (from the premonition) but went ahead anyways because if JK gets the USB and thinks MJ is dead then things will come to an end. As in he will leave SY alone ( I doubt it though). MJ will fake his death and wait for his chance to return home. We're only half way through so I'm not worried MJ will die now. That's my 2 cents but who knows where the story will go from here.

This episode was so funny. I actually burst out laughing when she was banging on his door holding her heels. (My parents thought something was wrong with me.) Maybe he couldn't stop the car because he was still weak from the kiss. Which it was nice how they showed that at the end, since I was wondering why he was feeling sick at the fishing hole. I just love this show. And talk about a major dilemma. It isn't just about him living forever alone if he stays, he might not even live very long. I can't wait to see how they resolve this (in a satisfactory manner I hope).
