Yoon Kye-sang and Han Ji-hye in Full Sun
by girlfriday
This show is being rather stingy with the stills, but here’s a peek at KBS’s new melodrama Full Sun, starring Yoon Kye-sang (Best Love) and Han Ji-hye (I Summon You, Gold), that’s getting ready to premiere next month as a Monday-Tuesday drama. The production is currently shooting the show’s early segment in Thailand, where the hero will be spending his innocent years before his life takes a massive downturn (it is a melodrama after all).
The show comes from the PD of Wild Romance and Women of the Sun and the writer of Dream High 2, and stars Yoon Kye-sang as a hardworking young man who works multiple part-time jobs while studying for the foreign civil service exam. His father is a petty criminal and a con man, and they live in Thailand for a while because of Dad’s deals.
It’s there that the hero will get caught up in an incident where he accidentally kills a man, leading him to give up his dreams and become a con man just like his father. Jo Jin-woong (Tree With Deep Roots) will play the man responsible for turning him into a criminal, and the hero will join his ring of jewel smugglers. Han Ji-hye is the heiress to a jewelry brand, who loses both her mother and her fiancé (the fiancé is the person the hero kills), leaving her and her younger brother Sohn Ho-joon (Answer Me 1994) with an evil stepmother.
The leads will have one of those hate-love-hate relationships due to “a cruel fate that will not end.” The plot sounds like your standard melo fare (because yunno, throw a stone in dramaland, hit someone falling in love with the girlfriend/boyfriend of the person they killed), but hopefully the performances and the execution will do something to set it apart. The true tragedy would be if Yoon Kye-sang’s drama comeback was wasted.
Full Sun follows Prime Minister and I and premieres February 10.

Why should such a wonderful (and handsome) actor have to make a "comeback" drama?

While the story is the same old traditional melodrama story and actually similar to YKS own drama "Crazy for You" but I am really happy that he is again taking a drama lead and hope this will be a good drama.

Sounds really similar to crazy for love but feel like this could be great. With modernise it a bit and we get to see some great actors.

I have this inexplicable love for melodramas even if every single one of them have usually the same premise. I want revenge from your father, or you, or someone in your family, or your dog/cat/horse, but I end up falling for you. Somehow I fall for the drama instead when I promise myself I won't. I give up. I'm watching this, so I just hope it's good.

LMAO that horse part killed me!!! xD
I know exactly what you mean~ but I mostly end up enjoying the time i spend cursing and screaming at a show than the actual show at times :p
I really hope this show does well for Yoon Kye-sang~<3 He is a fine actor :3 I really love the cast of veteran actors also ~ so i'm all in :)

Damn YKS looks soo fine!! I might watch this just so I can stare at his face. Will FF the evil stepmom thingy coz that's what I've been doing when I watch any melodrama with aggravating characters. That is the only way I can survive a melo without killing myself over

Omgosh, they look good together. I like Han Jihye, but I hope she turns the screaming down a notch. Impossible really, since this is a melo. Ugh. Still, hope the execution from everyone delivers.

I'll watch but three criticisms...
1. She looks the same as she did in ISYG - same hairstyle.
2. Jewelry business for her AGAIN?? Same as ISUG.
3. She lost the guy she loved in ISUG - well, he didn't die but she was the only one in that drama that ended up with no one. Everyone else had a loving partner.

I put off Korean dramas years ago because of all the melodramas with the same plot and all the crying, but Reply 1997 dragged me back into the K-drama world. I did enjoy Secret so I might give this genre one more chance....I need more dramas to watch during the week while I wait for YFAS and In A Good Way (TW-drama)

Guys why does this show remind me of That Winter, The Wind Blows? The still even the synopsis is similar to That Winter... I'm not saying it's going to an epic like That Winter but there's similarities.

Not really. In TWTWB, the lead guy pretended to be a lost long brother. The only similarity is the con-man part. When I read the synopsis, I didn't think of TWTWB but 'Crazy For You'. I love 'Crazy for You'. Such a beautiful and raw drama. :D

The stills look pretty! Yoon Kye Sang kissing Han Ji Hye's hand *sigh* *swoon*
I do like melos, lol. This sounds like the type I like and Han Ji Hye...I think I like her in more dramatic things, so I think this will be good. I really hope Yoon Kye Sang's comeback won't be wasted as well. I was really waiting for it.

Oh dear, looks like I'm gonna have to watch this - the leads look so pretty together (that still of him kissing her hand!!!) and I really, really like Yoon Kye Sang. I actually prefer him in darker roles rather his comical, nerdy ones (though I love those too).
The PD and writer aren't that great (the directing of Wild Romance was horrid and the writing of DH 2 even worse) but fingers crossed they'll somehow do a good job this time.

He does really well in darker roles. One of my favorite is "Poongsan".

Two reasons I won't be watching: 1. Sonds like your typical melo, 2. Dream High 2 writer

This sounds a LOT like CRAZY FOR LOVE/YOU which by the way I LOVEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD for the most part. Hmm, but definitely in for a melodrama if done right. Oh, and if I may, I approve of the pairing! :)
