Weekend drama Angel Eyes courts Lee Jun-ki to headline

Hmmm, Kang Haneul grows up to be Lee Jun-ki? Where do we sign up? New SBS weekend drama Angel Eyes is finally casting its leading man, and Lee Jun-ki (Two Weeks) is reportedly considering the role. Along with his casting announcement was word that Han Ga-in (The Moon That Embraces the Sun) was also being wooed to play the heroine, but her camp issued fast denials, which makes her the third leading actress to squash rumors of potential casting in this drama (after Han Ye-seul and Kim Haneul). Not that I’m too broken up about that.
The new weekender comes from PD Choi Moon-seok of Will It Snow For Christmas and writer Yoon Ji-ryun of Operation Proposal and Boys Over Flowers. The very loose description of the story is: a first love separated by family tragedy, reunited twelve years later. That’s it. So far the plot info is too generic to gauge anything from, since that’s like saying the drama will have actors and episodes.
If he takes the role, Lee Jun-ki would play the hero who has to send his first love away because of his family. Kang Haneul (Heirs) and Nam Ji-hyun (Hwa-yi) have been cast first as the teenage counterparts to the leads. If this is a melodrama a la Will It Snow For Christmas, it might be a good choice for Lee Jun-ki to keep expanding his genre breadth, though I have no idea what to expect from the writer of Boys Over Flowers. A lot will ride on the actress they manage to cast as the heroine, so fingers crossed for a good match-up.
Angel Eyes follows Thrice Married Woman and airs on Saturdays and Sundays beginning in March.

Both of the writer's mentioned past works are dramas adapted from their respective Japanese original drama/manga (which, to be fair, ain't masterpieces themselves), if this one will be an original story then expectations shouldn't be influenced much by them.

Come on don't insult the original Hana Yori Dango manga to the piece of garbage of a drama called Boys Over Flower.
Sorry BOF fans, if you want to really feel what HYD is like please read the manga. You might like the actors and so for their other works (I do) but they did horrible job in portraying the characters in BOF...
I felt so outraged when I attempted watching BOF for destroying my beloved manga in such a disgraceful way.
It was my first kdrama, and I stayed away from it for a year until I watched Full House, and that totally got me (thank God :D)
yeah so not liking the fact that Lee Jun Ki would work with that writer, really really like him. Hope it won't be disappointing.

Han Ji-min is considering the lead role. My guess is that if she accept it Jun-ki will take it too. He has expressed interest in working with her before so this might actually happen.

Yes,agree with u. I think it will be mini series drama (20 episode) like Secret Garden is also SBS's weekend drama.so basically not all SBS's weekend drama are long series (50 episode), not like KBS's weekend drama

I don't love Han Ji-min (she's ok but never much more than ok in her roles) but I guess she'd do, for this. My dream matchup with Jun-ki for this would be
1. Yoon Eun-hye - but I guess she's already done the melo and might be too big for weekend (not sure about that last part though).
2. Kim Min-hee (but she mainly does movies these days)
3. Gong Hyo-jin (though maybe not with this writer, I'd love to see her pair up with LJK someday)

I don't think YEH is too big for weekends. She's definitely not bigger than GHJ as far as popularity goes, and even someone like HJW did Secret Garden a few years ago.
LJK and GHJ would've looked great I think, but she's already being courted for the drama with JIS. I'm just glad it isn't HGI. I'm not a fan of LJK but I'd never want him to be stuck with Ga-in. He's too good an actor for that sort of disaster lol.

After MHIYD, YEH needs a good drama - weekday, weekend, whichever - and stat.
I know GHJ is more likely to go for the Noh Hee-kyung drama (she has an eye for decent writers and scripts, and that sounds more promising to be quite honest) but I would actually love to see her pair up with Jun-ki someday and see if her easy style of acting restrains his occasional excesses.
And I agree, anyone is better than Han Ga-in for a leading lady, in that age group!

yoon eun hye is definitely not big for weekend dramas, after coffee prince from which she became very popular she's been appearing in just mediocre and mostly flop dramas, she is not like what she used to be during her coffee prince era...

Lee Jun Ki chose the fantastic Two Weeks over Age of Feeling, I'll trust his choices, but I really hope this is not his next project. Even thinking about casting Ha Ga In disqualifies the makers for me.

There are no Heirs or BOF fans defending their shows because this site has so much negativity towards them that we decided to leave this site. Ever noticed how there are less people commenting on artciles now unlike, say City Hunter days getting over 1000 comments but now there's no reason to comment/defend anymore because there's too much backlash against Heirs and if you decided to praise it, people on their high horses will diss people who love it. I hope you guys don't think that "most people didn't like it" just because this site has been abandoned by Heirs' fans. There's a reason why Heirs is the most liked drama on FB and most watched on legal-drama hosting sites such as Dramafever, y'know.
Anyways looking forward for a new LJK drama... though yeah the BOF writer bit doesn't excite me...

Looking forward to Lee Jun-Ki's next drama project. If it happens, I would be excited to see Lee Jun-Ki and Kang Haneul acting in the same drama. :)
If he does sign on to the project, I hope that the heroine/female lead talented as well. I've just about had it one-sided talent and/or no chemistry in OTP's recently.
Sadly, I wish the ratings were much better for Arang & The Magistrate and Two Weeks. The positive is that Lee Jun-Ki made great choices in selecting AATM & 2 Weeks.

Arang didn't do too badly, ratings-wise (ratings were in the teens throughout, more or less) but both it and Two Weeks went up against really strong competition in their timeslot (Gaksital, then Nice Guy and Master's Sun). Sometimes high ratings really aren't a reflection on the quality of a drama so much as the lack of another drama to put up a good fight.
But they were good dramas, and good roles that won him a lot of praise for his acting, so it's definitely a win (and he proved he could have fantastic romantic chemistry, he and Shin Mina were so swoonworthy together in Arang)

Well, I may be in the minority but I liked Arang & The Magistrate way more than Gaksital [aka Bridal Mask] and Nice Guy. AATM offered something different - a Sageuk mixed with mystery, fantasy, ghosts, comedy, and mythology.

Arang was one of my favourite dramas of all time - the worldbuilding is FLAWLESS, and in terms of setting, mythology etc. it's one of the most original dramas I've ever seen on network tv.
That's probably one reason why its dense, plot-rich tone was not as popular as the far more pedestrian Moon/Sun despite the fact that it had a better story and an OTP with actual chemistry/acting ability.

I second everything you said!!! I absolutely loved everything about Arang and the Magistrate...
In my opinion, not many recent dramas have come close to capturing its magic...that was one drama I couldn't get over finishing for quite some time. I missed it so much that I re-watched it recently, and still loved it :)

I became very much of a fan of LJK after Arang and even more after 2 Weeks. I've come to Respect him as an actor, which isn't sth I can say about many actors. More of them make me swoon than solicit my respect.
With every project, LJK shows that he is deadly serious about his acting craft, and will go any length to portray his characters in the best way possible, even at the expense of his own pretty image. Plus he really picks projects for diversity, intensity and their being special stories, never your run-of-the-mill chaebol son and such.
Love LJK and hope to see him again in another special drama with a worthy leading lady.

He's that rare thing: a star who has never let his good looks or obvious charisma take the place of actual acting, in his performances.
And it would be very easy to do that (because look at him!), but despite them, he's become a good actor - not the greatest, but he puts so much heart into his performances especially post-army, that he's worth watching.

Overall I trust Lee Jun Ki's judgement, so hopefully if he does end up doing this project, he sees something in the script that he liked that will end up being good for the drama. If not, I'll probably still watch it hahaha

I love LJK but don't want him to film this drama though. I am hoping he can do another sageuk with lots of action pack. As for his leading lady, Han Ji Min is my first choice.

That's just weird casting, for KHN and LJK to play the same character. Nothing against either actor, just visually silly casting. I'd say no to this drama just on that alone because if that is screwy, chances are there will be much more stuff that's questionable.
I'm thinking Kang Haneul needs to be cast in drama to play a grown up Kang Haneul, cause you know, he's awesome.

The visuals wouldn't bother me, but their acting styles are so different, I have NO idea how a young Kang Haneul would grow up to have the mannerisms or delivery of Lee Jun-ki.

For me, weekend drama does not compute with Lee Jun-ki! Even more so because it'll be written by the writer of Boys Over Flowers! Run as far away from this as you can, LJK!
But I'll definitely look forward to him picking a drama (that'll suit him) soon...it's a damn shame Arang and the Magistrate & Two Weeks weren't big ratings-wise, because those are two of my faves in recent years.

LJK should accept AOF. AOF much better than this. until now i can't accept it he rejected the offer. i like HJM but i wish they will pair in saeguk drama. or can they cast HHJ? but she focus more on movie. saw someone mention YEH. please not her. i think she is typecast actress. even in IMY her acting is medicore.

I mean both of them are very good looking but in different ways and with different features, and Kang Ha Neul and Lee Jun Ki look only a few years apart at most. They have acting tones and styles that are completely different too, so I have no idea how this is going to work as a passable transition if both actors accept :/ Love them both but maybe it would be better if they had separate roles?

I am a fan of Lee Jun Ki but i am actually hoping he rejected this drama offer. I just don't have much trust to the writer (let's admit it despite BOF success the script wasn't really good) and i also didn't like the script of Operation Proposal that much, i like the Japanese one far better. So i hope he pick other drama offer and not this one. I trust his judgement though since he pick really good dramas.

Have no qualms that these two beautiful and bankable Korean Superstars who are so great looking Will have no reasons to reject the project. Jun King and Ji Min waited long enough to be in on screen together. They are both powerful when it comes to acting, Cream Of The Crop. Hopefully it will materialize!
