New rom-com Sly and Single Again confirms leads

There were no big shakeups for MBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama Sly and Single Again, which has secured both Lee Min-jung (All About My Romance, Big) and Joo Sang-wook (Good Doctor, TEN 2) as its lead pair. They’ll be following the growing trend of drama couples who were once married and meet again as singles, setting them up for a re-romance. Lee Min-jung’s strength is definitely in rom-coms, while Joo Sang-wook will be departing from his usual stern cold hero roles, which should be a lot of fun.

The 16-episode romantic comedy comes from the PD of Me Too, Flower! and stars Lee Min-jung as a flighty sort of character who cared much more about honing her looks over her life skills. Joo Sang-wook plays her ex-husband, a geeeenius IT engineer with persistence and motivation who hits it big later in life and ends up a chaebol. Once she finds this out, she sets out to win him back and begins scheming. But what she doesn’t know is that he’s determined to get his petty revenge for the fact that she left him and wants him back only when he’s loaded, so he schemes right back.

As long as the childishness is on equal footing, I think they’ll be an entertaining match-up. It’d be less fun if he were just cold and haughty and if she were the only one with an agenda, not that there’s any reason to feel sorry for the ex-husband who gets to hug his money at night. I hope Joo Sang-wook really goes all-out for the comedy, because his go-to cold professional Blue Steel Super Doc/Cop is getting predictable and boring. Sometimes it’s worth ruining your image for laughs. Hey, it worked for So Ji-sub.

Sly and Single Again follows Miss Korea and premieres in February.

LOVE HIM!

Ugh but why Lee Minjung? Her voice grates me, it's ridiculously annoying.

Conflicting emotions... I'll wait for details on the second leads before I decide. The story sounds okay.

Lee Min Jung's acting was too pretendious in Big. Which is a dissapointment because i know she has more potential

have you watched 'Smile You'? her voice is her charm in that drama.. and that drama is good.. it's on my top 10 list..(it's a bit long though, i mean 45 episodes long).. but it's worth watching and highly recommended..

I agree! I loved her in that drama but sadly, the only drama I love her in. Over all, 'Smile You' was a great family drama and not overly dramatic with crazy out of the woods plot. I was rooting for her and the male lead to be a real couple, they're too darn cute!

She has potentials but her projects after 'Smile You' has been bland and repetitive. Still have hope for this one!

I agree! Smile You is just the cutest! :3 The two leads had very good chemistry together and the story itself was simple, sweet, yet not boring. Sometimes a simple story with a lot of heart trumps complicated, gimicky storylines we see a lot of lately. :)

Definitely looking forward to see Joo Sang Wook in a romantic-comedy. On variety shows and talk shows, he seems like a really funny guy. Hopefully, it's not going to be a kerplunk-drama with Lee Min Jung. *crosses fingers*

There's a bunch of really good upcoming dramas. At least a huge change from last year's almost empty first half.

I like LMJ a lot, so I'm up for this. It's kinda petty in terms of story, but hey... I think rom-comes are the general trend this year.

Around that time I was really into GFB and IHYV, so for me, it was more the initial months with AAMR, GoW, Level 7, That winter, When a man loves (*shudders*)...

if the self-made chaebol for this drama is anything like the one Park Shi Hoo portrayed in "Alice In Cheongdam- Dong" (petty, childish, FUN TO WATCH), then I'm all for it =)

i actually wish it's not like that, it's too stereotypical and over-used.. and at the same time he is a new chaebol so it's a bit different then being born with money. but they sure like making them seem silly..

I love the remarried again trope since it subverts the "omg love at first sight!" trope because marriage is a horse of a different color than the falling in love part. So watching a couple find their way back into love with more wisdom and less rose colored glasses are definitely fun! With that said, the leads' character description in here are so far not that appealing to me but only time will tell.

I use to really like LMJ but then her dramas started sucking and so I don't look forward to her projects much anymore. But I hope this one works out and renews my affection for her.

As far as drama trends of the year go, I'm pretty excited for this one! I think the idea of a second chance at a relationship, and that person being the person you were meant to be with etc is more complex and full of potential than... ghosts and doctors and cross-dressing (which as we know does have its moments...)

This "take 2" seems to be a bit of a theme, with tvN's Emergency Man Woman starting soon having the same structure to its OTP, although without the revenge aspect. Anything that broadens the range of relationships shown is a good thing for me.

Her scheming sort of reminds of Alice in Cheongdamdong... But I guess it's fine if it's just petty squabbling?

I hope it's nice and light. Me, too Flower was a bit on the heavy side at times.

Finally!
I've already dedicated my loyalty to this drama because of him. I am seriously in love with him, lol.
I also like LMJ in Rom Com as well ever since smile you. And even though big was a mess, she did the funny parts well.

I love JSW. Looking forward to this one. The premise sounds fun. Shallow female lead who cares only about her looks and money facing loaded ex husband who is wise to her aspirations and is ready to ruin her plan.

JSW please be hilarriously petty and just as shallow as her!

I'm excited! Sounds funny and cute....it is always interesting to watch an actor, who usually does serious roles, in a rom-com.

This sounds good, too. Looks like 2014 may just be a good year for *~romantical ~*premises, haha.

Plus, I like that they are scheming on each other secretly, I think that's hilarious.

I wish it wasnt a married actress. Becoz they always ruin a drama. Yaay for Joo Sang Wook. He deserves more lead roles than second leads.

For once, I wish I could "unlike" a comment. Being married has absolutely NO effect on an actress' ability to do their job. It's because of opinions like these that married actresses find it increasingly difficult to find roles (which does not happen nearly as often with married actors -- it's incredibly and upsettingly sexist).

Haha it's funny how 'genius' has become 'geeeenius' on this site. Like we just have to stress the word to show how ridiculous it has become. Guess ordinary is underrated in dramaland. Nevertheless, JSW in a romcom! Yay!

in the synopsis they always write these exaggerated descriptions, but in the drama itself i don't usually see indication for it, i mean they have successful/smart characters but i don't recall anyone really being a genius..

So none of the Re-Romance dramas have interested me too much thus far but I really like this one. Some one mentioned it's kind of like "Alice" with all the two-way plotting, which was the most enjoyable part of that show. Plus I think Lee Min-jung is just the most adorable thing ever. I'm still trying to make it through All About My Romance for her sake. That may be slowest drama I've ever watched... I mean, I think time actually slows down when you're watching it. But I really enjoy her and the lead in it so I'm plodding along at a rate of about one episode a month.

Anyway, I think I'll give this one a try.

wow. lotsa rom-com this year. love it. joo sang wook being in one answered a whole lot of prayers including mine.
the way he laughs when he's nervous in variety is so cuute. and yes, even the one that appears to be cold and quiet like so ji sub could rock a rom com, joo sang wook could surely do better eh?

This show gonna be the 1st produced drama by Fantagio Ent. The home of some big actors like Ha JungWoo, Jo JinMoo, Jung KyungHo, Uhm JungAh,etc.
So im hoping they will bring a fresh tone n creativity into the drama.
But i just hope they will not going overboard with the in-laws matter as its know how judging korean society still is in addressing the divorce issues.

Joo Sang-Wook!! I can't wait to see him in a rom-com.

Why on earth are there so many rom-coms coming out at the same time? Last year I barely watched any dramas as there weren't really any good fun rom-coms and now there's an overload. It seems like kdrama-land is like London buses - you wait an eternity, and then when they come, they come in 2s or 3s. Tut... tut..

On the other hand.... I cant actually decide on what to watch. My current list is growing: Empress Ki, A Well Brought Up Daughter, The Prime Minister and I, You From Another Star.... and I'm hoping to watch the two TVN dramas - Emergency Hospital Couple + I need a romance 3 (is that what it's called? The one with Sung Joon). Now this drama.... otokajo? otokajo?

Yes, how did Jan 2014 become a month in which I watch almost every other popular drama airing on television. I currently have Empress Ki, Prime Minister and I, You from Another Star and I also plan to watch the two TVN dramas that you mentioned as well.

Bring it on! I have a feeling 2014 is going to be a good year for dramas.

I'd watch this just for Joo Sang Wook, but Lee Min Jung? Eh...not quite :/
Her performances have been stiff/bland/boring since Smile, You...the only solid showing for her, in my opinion.

Like Girlfriday mentioned, I do hope JSW departs from his usual roles...because it's kinda getting predictable. Hopefully he'll be taking a page out of So Ji Sub's playbook, and give his all into acting outside of the box...that would be something worth watching ;)
