You From Another Star: Episode 4

How adorable. You From Another Star is really hitting all the right notes for me, from its romantic chemistry to its fizzy comedy to its light genre touches. The pacing continues to be quick and efficient, with just enough relationship build-up to tease, yet leave me wanting more.

It’s no surprise that the drama broke the 20% ratings barrier in a mere four episodes, which is no easy feat these days, and especially for a rom-com (for whatever reason, dramaland’s been rather dry on solid rom-coms in recent years, yielding its big hitters to the melodramas). Episode 4 brought in a 20.1%. (Miss Korea was at 7.7%, and Pretty Man at 4.3%.)

RECAP: FOURTH RECORD

Min-joon realizes that Song-yi went on that boat even though he stole her high heels hoping to keep her grounded (…snerk), but his dread over a possible accident wars with his policy not to interfere with human lives. It’s Lawyer Jang who exclaims that he should go after her, but Min-joon explains that in his many years on Earth, he has been witness to a number of terrible things.

We flash back to the Joseon storyline in which Yi-hwa arrives with him at her parental home. She is greeted with disbelief and joy, news of her death having preceded her arrival. Yi-hwa’s mother cries in relief as she hears of her daughter’s attempted murder… but there’s a suspicious stricken look on her father’s face. Ack, was he in on the plot to kill his own daughter?

Yi-hwa introduces Min-joon as her savior, and her father offers him a grand feast in gratitude. Min-joon digs in, enjoying the tasty Earth food.

Yet later that night, trembling hands sneak up on Yi-hwa to choke her in her sleep. Yi-hwa awakens with a gasp as her mother strangles the life out of her, saying that she has sullied her body and her family’s honor, and therefore it is better to die a clean death. Poor thing is either too naive or too trusting, because it hadn’t occurred to her that arriving in the company of an unknown man would be a shameful thing.

Yi-hwa’s father keeps watch outside, but the moment he steps away, Yi-hwa’s mother lets up and tells her to run away. She shoves money into her hand and begs her to live in hiding. Belatedly Yi-hwa realizes that Min-joon is also in danger; we see that he has been tied up while his poisoned food knocked him out. (He’s sick, but not dead the way a human would be.) As he lies there in pain, he looks out the window and sees three UFOs flying off into the night, leaving him stranded here.

While Min-joon has learned to detach himself from human interactions as a result, Lawyer Jang reminds him that people still live on knowing they will eventually die, and love passionately as though there’s no tomorrow. “That kind of foolishness is what humans do,” he chuckles. “Even so, even though the future is important, isn’t the present moment also important? If something were to happen to her, are you confident it will not upset you?”

Perhaps he convinces himself he doesn’t care, because Min-joon heads home to watch TV while the cruise ship sets off for its wedding. As luck would have it, a feature on Song-yi plays on TV, showing a previous episode’s epilogue asking about her first love. She recounts being saved by a warm, mysterious man who still lingers in her memory.

Min-joon shuts off the TV and heads out… and we fast-forward to 60 hours later.

Biking by the river, Min-joon stops to watch a large-scale search party coming to a close as a corpse is pulled out of the water. The body is covered, but the feet wear a pair of glittery high heels.

Inside the police station, lead cop Detective Park is ready to put a swift end to the investigation, deeming it a suicide. The top star was on depression meds and recently tweeted about how living was difficult, and on the day of the accident she was seen drunk. He asks the prosecutor in charge to help wrap things up, but Prosecutor Yoo is less willing to gloss things over without a full investigation.

I’m wondering if the show will trick us with a victim twist, but it’s definitely Song-yi they are investigating. Prosecutor Yoo pores over the CCTV footage of the wedding cruise, and now we jump back to the day of the event. Song-yi sits with Hwi-kyung and Se-mi, the former joking about marrying Song-yi in a quiet ceremony and the latter looking crushed to hear it. Song-yi sets Hwi-kyung straight by saying she’s not joking about not being his bride.

Scary hyung Jae-kyung drops by to say hi, and Song-yi asks whether he’s dating anybody, since Yura had bragged about marrying into the chaebol family. Hwi-kyung swears up and down that it’s not him, and hyung deflects by saying that he only knows her as their brand model, nothing more.

Song-yi drops by to greet the bride, and then Yura joins them and the catfight continues. Yura hints that she’ll be making a wedding announcement of her own later tonight, Song-yi calls it rude to take over someone else’s wedding, and then they both realize they’re wearing the same shoes. Ha. Also aha. The budding fight is interrupted by the photographer calling for a photo, and the rivals start striking elaborate poses in another bout of one-upsmanship. It’s pretty hilarious.

Yura ends up with the bridal bouquet and sends knowing looks at Jae-kyung, who studiously ignores catching her eye. Afterward, Song-yi finds Yura’s clutch in the bathroom and puts it in her purse to return later.

Se-mi approaches a movie director and compliments his upcoming project, wanting to network a role for herself. But he’s annoyed to hear she got her hands on the screenplay (she’s not important enough) and dismisses the possibility—until a gleam enters his eye and he invites Se-mi for drinks sometime. Ugh. So much ugh.

Se-mi realizes she’s been relegated to the casting couch, just as Hwi-kyung comes up and says pointedly that the movie might not even get made—after all, it’ll need investors first.

He puts a protective arm around Se-mi and recalls that S&C Group is investing in the movie, adding that he didn’t find the script all that interesting and was just about to advise his hyung to pass on it. Aw, he’s a sweetie, even if he’s totally oblivious to Se-mi’s feelings for him. Hwi-kyung treats her like a kid sister and says that all men are wolves (“Except me!”) and tells her to make sure to get his approval when she finds a boyfriend. She grumbles, “Who are you to do that?” Hwi-kyung grins, “I’m the future husband to your BFF.”

They see Song-yi off on the other end of the ship, swaying with a martini in hand, just as the whole ship rocks with a wave. When Se-mi looks up, Song-yi is gone.

Thus the ship pulls into the dock early, its guests leaving while the search is conducted for its missing guests. Se-mi tells manager Bum that Song-yi has disappeared… and so has Yura.

Hwi-kyung scours the ship for sign of Song-yi, checking room after room and breathing a huge sigh of relief when he finds Song-yi sleeping in a bedroom. He leads her down the hallway while she staggers drunkenly, and the detectives watching the footage note that Song-yi was the last one off the boat. And the last anyone saw of Yura was fighting in the bathroom with Song-yi. Ah, so Song-yi isn’t the victim in this case, but the suspect.

In class, Min-joon’s lecture of the day is about the power of malicious gossip: It begins wherever people congregate and has the ability to do great harm, possibly even killing a person. Sure enough, already the internet is abuzz with accusations of Song-yi offing her rival, spurred by the release of video footage from their beauty salon run-in. It certainly looks bad for Song-yi, and fuels the narrative that Song-yi harassed Yura until she took her own life.

Song-yi’s brother Jae-yoon watches the media coverage, furious on his sister’s behalf. Also on her side is her sometimes-friend Bok-ja, who barks to her manhwa store customers that Song-yi’s rude, but no killer.

It’s a PR nightmare for Song-yi, who’s home is staked out by rabid reporters. Song-yi, hilariously, has slept through the whole mounting crisis and has to be told by Bum that Yura died. Over the phone, he orders her to meet him in the parking lot, then mid-sentence orders her back into her apartment because reporters have infiltrated the building and are in the elevator up to her floor.

Song-yi panics at her door, not remembering her latest PIN code, and just as the elevator dings to open, Min-joon opens his front door. Song-yi flings herself into his apartment just moments before the pack of vultures arrives. Certain that Song-yi is home, the reporters figure they’ll wait her out.

Inside the door, Song-yi pleads for Min-joon’s help (then presses her luck by asking for some ramyun when her stomach growls). She gives him the full puppy dog eyes and everything, which work not at all on him, and he pushes past her to step out into the hallway.

Immediately he’s bombarded with reporter questions, but he ignores them with his trademark stone face and heads out. Meanwhile, Song-yi looks for a phone and finds none, wondering why Min-joon has only a pager and neither landline nor cell: “Is he living alone in this world?”

Se-mi’s mother shares the happy news she received from a fortuneteller, which saw a “big event” in Song-yi’s future, followed by a big blank future. Meanwhile, Se-mi’s future unfolds at that point into brightness and success. Se-mi is less than thrilled at her mother’s display of schadenfreude, saying that while Song-yi gets on her nerves at times, she is her friend.

Mom, however, asks how long Se-mi can take being a sidekick in her own life. You never know how life will change, she advises, saying that it’s time Se-mi made took her life into her hands and made both Hwi-kyung and the spotlight her own.

Song-yi’s mother is now eager to renew Song-yi’s contract with her agency, which she’d previously been dangling over their heads as leverage. But now that CFs and drama offers are starting to be rescinded, CEO Ahn is the one hedging, not wanting to take on the liability.

Song-yi grumbles about her hunger pangs as Min-joon arrives home, tossing a bag at her silently. Aw, he bought snacks! She invites him to eat ramyun with her, which he refuses, then asks him to at least sit with her so she doesn’t have to eat alone. Which he also refuses.

Min-joon tries to get some sleep, but his ears pick up the sound of Song-yi discovering his secret library while hunting for the bathroom. She takes in the grandiose sight and the collection of centuries-old artwork and artifacts, then pulls a journal from his shelf at random to rifle through.

Out of nowhere Min-joon appears to glower at her nosiness, startling her into dropping the book. She’s naturally curious as to this room and his collection, but he just yanks her out of the library and orders her to get out.

Song-yi appeals to his sense of empathy… which is pretty tiny, since he doesn’t care that she’ll be thrown to the tabloid wolves. So she changes tack to remind him that a teacher has an obligation to look after his pupil… which doesn’t work since he has never considered her his student.

Annoyed, she cuts down to banmal and throws a “ya” at him, which is extra-funny for his offended reaction. He’s not just older than her, he’s also a grumpy old person, so he fights to contain his ire at her rudeness for talking down to him, assuming she’s the noona.

Then she gets smart and says that if she dies in this gossip war, she’s taking him with her—because if he kicks her out, he’ll be outed as her supposed secret boyfriend, and goodbye anonymity, peace, and private life. Lol, she really should’ve led with that.

Exasperated but outmaneuvered, Min-joon lays down the rules: She is to touch nothing, ask nothing, and stay at least a meter away at all times. Song-yi huffs that that’s her line, then muses, “That’s odd. It’s impossible for a man to not like me.” Her natural thought progression lands on: “Does he play for the other team?”

To nobody’s surprise, I’m sure, it’s Jae-kyung behind Yura’s death, continuing his murder spree. Is he going for one per episode, or can we hope that his bloodlust abates sometime soon? Surely at some point people will start noticing that everyone around him is dying.

In any case, his assistant informs him that he’s done away with Yura’s laptop and all traces of their relationship that were on it. However, it looks as though she backed up her files onto a flash drive, and was carrying it in her clutch on the night she died. Ah, that’s the purse Song-yi took, and now it’s Jae-kyung’s priority to find it and do away with it.

Hwi-kyung goes to his big bro for help on the Song-yi gossip, trying to find a way to clear her name. He argues that Yura didn’t have to commit suicide (which would be Song-yi’s fault), but that she could have had an accident or even been pushed. Jae-kyung just tells him that the investigation will surely yield the truth and not to worry.

But Hwi-kyung isn’t the sit-tight-and-wait type of guy, which I have to respect even if he does lack the smarts to accomplish anything helpful. He arrives in Song-yi’s hallway to find it stuffed full of squatters, who assume he’s just another one of them. He has no luck getting to Song-yi, so when the reporters invite Hwi-kyung to join them, he does.

Song-yi makes herself at home in Min-joon’s apartment, making a mess in no time as she lounges around. Min-joon asks about the rumors of her involvement in Yura’s death, and she says that Yura would never kill herself over Song-yi. Song-yi starts tearing up as she recalls that Yura had been bragging that night: “She was only thirty—how did things come to this? I didn’t do anything wrong, but why do I feel so guilty and sorry?”

Min-joon asks about the last time she’d seen Yura, and Song-yi thinks back to their bathroom encounter, which we see in flashback:

Song-yi overhears Yura having an argument and peers through a crack in the doorway as Yura tells Jae-kyung that she wants to go public. She makes a vaguely threatening comment about making an announcement soon, in front of all his friends. Instead of getting angry, Jae-kyung asks how Yura’s depression is these days and says gently, “You know I care about you, right? Take care of your health.” Soooo basically, if he asks about your health, run far, and run fast.

Yura enters the bathroom and catches Song-yi overhearing, though she’s not too upset since she’s going to go public with her news soon. Song-yi broaches the topic gingerly over whether Yura has to have Jae-kyung, suggesting that she could get any other man she wanted. That’s actually kind of nice of her, though given their history I suppose anything short of throwing insults (or fists) would probably fall under the nice category.

Yura understands that Song-yi means that her man doesn’t seem all that into her, but still gloats that she has a secret reason that’ll ensure her marriage to him. Not that she’d share that with Song-yi, of course.

Then Yura says offhandedly that she’ll retire once she marries, so Song-yi can have all the roles then. Song-yi, of course, scoffs that she’s doing quite well right now, thanks. Aw, I like this. They’re hardly friendly, but this kind of grudging respect (even if it comes in the form of backhanded compliments) makes me sad that Yura won’t be sticking around to become a solid frenemy.

The investigators dig through more boat footage and finally come across something strange—an unfamiliar face appears in the crowd, and as far as they can tell the man was neither guest nor employee. It’s Min-joon, here after all.

Back in Min-joon’s apartment, Song-yi recalls something strange happening to her that night—something she had assumed was a dream, but that struck her as so vivid that she could have sworn it really happened. She remembers being drunk that night and unable to find Yura to return her purse, after which she fell asleep. And y’know, Min-joon appeared in her dream. At that, Min-joon tenses, his eyes darting sideways uneasily.

Still examining the security tapes, the investigators sit up in alarm to see the stranger on the boat walking amidst the crowd, and then disappearing into nothingness. What is he, some kind of ghost?

A second later, they realize that at the very same moment Min-joon disappeared from the camera footage, so did Song-yi.

Song-yi asks if he was there that day, and he deflects by saying there’s no reason that he would have been. She agrees, but still can’t shake the feeling that she really did see him. What did he do that night?

We see from Min-joon’s perspective as he walks along the deck, and with a glare at the security cameras, they all cut to black. He spots Song-yi swaying on the deck, just as the boat hits a big wave that sends everyone reeling. Song-yi bumps hard against the railing, poised to fall over it—and time freezes.

Min-joon navigates through the frozen crowd to save Song-yi, then carries her to an empty bed. His gaze lingers over her face as he sets her down, taking his time letting go of her…

Then suddenly Song-yi slides her arms around his neck, pulls him down to her, and kisses him.

EPILOGUE

Min-joon interviews, “Kissing? It isn’t that I haven’t had the chance, but I’ve never done it.”

We see Joseon Min-joon with a gisaeng (Sohn Eun-seo) who offers him the gift of a painting, which now hangs in his library. She asks him to accept it as proof of her feelings, then boldly leans up to give him a kiss.

At the last moment, Min-joon whirls her around so that he’s the one leaning over her to offer the kiss, though he first has some important facts to disclose about his origins. He points up to the sky and explains, “I came from that star. Will you still accept me? Probably not, as we are people from different planets.”

Instead, his confession sends the gisaeng to tears—she accuses him of concocting a terrible story just to reject her, and runs off crying. With a sigh, Min-joon looks up at the stars, alone again.

COMMENTS

Dude, that’s how you reveal your alien nature? Of course she ran off crying, HA. Aside from being a funny tag to go out on, I like this epilogue for showing us a younger Min-joon at least trying to have a relationship. The failure was played purely in joke terms, but there’s a sad ring of truth to the way he just stars up at the stars at the end, because even when he wasn’t trying to cut himself off, he was still alone.

But more importantly: Kisses don’t kill! Huzzah. Fine, I didn’t really think the drama was going to withhold smoochies from us so cruelly by, say, making saliva poisonous or whatnot, but I have to say I wasn’t entirely assured until we saw them kissing safe and sound. (And while we can joke about the closed-mouthed kissing of dramaland keeping kisses saliva-free, I think seeing a kiss rather rules that theory out.) I still find that detail about mixing saliva and blood to be quite intriguing, and will be waiting patiently for the show to explain that. Okay, maybe impatiently.

Okay, so the death count is getting amusingly high, to the point where it might start feeling a little odd to have so much comedy surrounding murder after murder, so I do hope that we’re at the end of the killing spree for now. (Or fine, I would laugh my pants off if they went whole hog and just killed somebody every episode, so I’ll give you that.) But sardonic black comedy turns aside, I think we now have plenty of assurance that big bro is sufficiently evil, so we get the point!

My favorite moments are seeing Min-joon insist that he’s fine not caring, and then contradicting himself right away in his actions. Like how he threatens to throw her out and then goes to buy her snacks. This drama tends to play with chronology in showing us one thing from her perspective, letting us think something happened one way, and then revealing the full scenario from his side. It’s not a tactic that always works, but with this show I think it enhances the romantic development, because the moment lands extra-hard when we realize that not only did Min-joon say or think something, he acted on it. Or the little tiny moment we squee about turns out to be a lot juicier, letting us revel in the moment for just that extra beat. I love it.

Once again, I really liked this episode. I love that so far, the story has been well written, it feels organic and things make sense within this dramaverse. I will start with my questions:

1—What does one get when they have a virtuous woman? (The little girl said to her parents that her in-laws tried to kill her, to get something one gets by having a virtuous woman.)

2—Oh WOW!!!! Her own mother tried (and then pretended to kill her?)

3—Is Lawyer Jang speaking old Korean (like Joseon Korean) to MJ in this episode? Or was it that he was speaking in formal speech to him? When I listened to lawyer Jang today, he sounded different than the other times I have heard him speak to MJ, so I was curious.

4—I love the fight for the pictures. Is that really how those stars act? That was funny. Reminded me of KoDs.

5—Was director Park trying to couch cast SM? Looked like it.

6—Expression: “SY must see the end when she drinks.” Does that mean SY must drink until she becomes drunk? Unconscious? Until there is no more alcohol?

7—Who uploaded the video on YT? Probably someone who was in the Hair salon.

8—When SY says to MJ, “(are you) like saving up to pay a debt?” (running two jobs), does she think he is counterfeiting or stealing old books or documents, to maybe sell them on the black market?

9—The water ghosts drown to death mentioned in the episode, are they the “Mul gwishin,” or the “mongdal gwishin?” Those were the names that came up on Google.

10—I am hoping that it will eventually be on YT, however, I thought I would ask: does anyone know the instrumental song that played 54 to 56 minutes into the episode, when MJ and SY were on the boat? I liked that score.

I find it interesting how MJ seems to always be very reluctant to help SY, but then does it at the last minute. And now with SY having HYR’s bag, the attention will probably shift to her, and MJ might have to intervene again. That reminds me of one of the trailers in which we hear MJ say to SY, “I will protect you,“ which he told her doppelganger in Joseon days. I am really loving the development of MJ and SY’s relationship, marked by the little (subtle) hints that we get: the way MJ looked at her, when she cried, the fact that he can hear her, the way he looked at her when she was sleeping, etc… And for her, the way she tries to manipulate him (to get what she wants), and the way she is slowing becoming more comfortable around him. I love how so opposite they are in some ways, and yet how they get under each other’s skin. KSH and JJH do have great chemistry.

I am thinking that in this episode, MJ has to know that SY is the little girl he saved 12 years ago, the child actress in the report looked exactly like the girl he saved back then. Interesting also, how rumors and stories can be spun in the entertainment and media world for good or for bad, and that it is not new. I really love MJ’s apartment, so lovely. The painting she thought was fake might be the one the lady offered him in his Joseon days.

Thank you for the recap, and I wonder if YH ended up dying or being killed in the Joseon times. We were not showed what she did, when her mom asked her to leave. MJ has said before that a child died because of him interfering, right? makes me think it might have been her, which might explain partly why he ends up feeling compelled to save and help SY.

I think that she did die, he had said in an earlier epi that she was the first one who gave him a gift and that she had died.

No, I don't think she died. Remember, Min-joon was poisoned and tied down when the girl escaped. And there was no way for him to know if she survived or not. Even her father thinks that her mother killed her.

Hello Rushie,
See, your reasoning makes sense to me, and that is why I feel ambivalent about her death (and therefore I am not totally sure that she died). I feel that the show is doing a good job at keeping me guessing, because her having died or not, can equally be argued. Thank you for adding your thoughts to this conversation.

Ivoire, don't let minor details get in the way of seeing or enjoying big pictures.

I suspect that you will find answers to most of your questions in future episodes as they unfold (because the drama wants to reveal certain details in its own pace). Also, re-watching earlier episodes may yield some clues as well.

Let your imagination carry you. Fill in the gaps yourself. Indulging in fantasies (by making up things in your mind) is one of many dramatic pleasures.

Hello Lord Byron,

I am not letting minor details get in the way of seeing or enjoying big pictures. I think I am just experiencing the drama and its episodes differently. I appreciate people who take the time to answer, though I would understand if they didn't. I cannot make people answer my questions if they don't wish to.
I do not have the best of imaginations, so I don't really trust mine. I love reading other people thoughts, and I have found that at times, I have actually gotten some people to think about things they would not have thought about. I fill in the gaps as much as I can, however, I do appreciate the conversations I am having, some of which were started with those questions. It could be that my way of commenting is different. Just like there is a diversity of comments here, there is a diversity in the way the comments are formulated.
Thank you for your comment.

it suddenly dawned on me that maybe the reason why Min-joon can't connect the old Song-ji to the young SJ of 12 years ago, is because the SJ doppelganger in Joseon did not grew old to become the present SJ lookalike. Oh, sad, her wish (of a lie) did not materialized =(.

Hi Beng,

What I find interesting, is that MJ still thinks about the SY (or rather Yi-hwa) of the Joseon times, and he does think about the SY of 12 years ago. Assuming that YH died 400 years ago, we know that MJ is very smart and that h has an excellent memory. I don't think he needs to see the doppelganger being older to be able to make the connection between SY as teenager, and SY the older actress.

Yeah, it is kind of sad that the doppelganger didn't get her wish, however, for some reason, that does not seem to bother me, maybe because back then, MJ didn't seem to have romantic feelings for her. That would make sense (to me), since she was still young (OK, even though 15 is not that young, I know). I guess I am just OK with what we have seen of what happened 400 years ago, so far. There are still so many things we don't know (about the show), that I am just content finding out, as I watch each episode.

Just FYI, a lot of your questions can be answered by reading the recap. But I'll try to answer some here...

1 - Basically her in-laws had no use for her, and by saying that she committed suicide to follow her dead husband, they paint her as a virtuous woman and thus kill two birds with one stone (they get rid of her and get the associated honor/virtue that her death brings).

2 - This is in the recap. Her mom only pretended to strangle her until the dad walked away in order to give her a chance to run away and live.

3 - I believe he was speaking a little more formally.

5 - Yes, this is also in the recap.

6 - Yes, that is correct. Similar to the saying "let's see it out til the end"

8 - I'm not sure if the subs were correct there. My understanding of that scene was that she asked him if he invested in old and rare book/works, like an art collector.

9 - mul gwishin

also, when minjoon referred to the child that died because of him he might have been referring to the little girl with the gambler addict father from the first two episodes.

The girl that Minjoon refers to who dies is (I'm pretty sure) the Joseon doppleganger because he said that the girl who died was the first one to give him a gift, and in the first episode (I think) there was a flashback of the Joseon doppleganger giving him the gift of the painting

Hi Hayoung,

And thank you for your response! I am thinking that the child who died must be the doppelganger as well, yet I think 5 or 10% of me was not completely sure. Maybe meeting SY in present times is his opportunity to have a 2nd chance, and correct the past? Maybe I am reading too much into this show. I do find it fun to speculate about what happened, and what that might mean though.

Hello Heejung,

And thank you for answering my questions. I will just comment on a few things, if I may.

1--I assumed what you said in your explanation yesterday, and for some reason, when YH said that her in-laws wanted something (or something along those lines), I wondered if there was something else her in-laws might have wanted (that I was not aware of). I am not very familiar with Korean traditions and values, and so I would rather ask than assume. Thank you for clarifying that for me.

2--I wrote that while I was still watching the episode, and at first, I was so surprised that I jotted that down. After watching the episode, I realized that the mom did pretend when the dad walked away, and I forgot to take that comment out when I posted my comment (the whole thing, I mean).

3--OK.

5--Yeah, I saw that JB mentioned that. I was (sadly) surprised again. I know it happens, but I still find it sad and I am bothered by it when I read about it.

6--OK.

7--I didn't realize people were recording their exchange, though I shouldn't be surprise, I guess.

8--OK.

9--OK.

10--About the child/girl who died, in ep. 1 or 2 (whose dad gambled), thanks for reminding me of that. That would make some sense as well, though I am still curious as to whether she was the one who died, or YH was the one who ended up dying. I guess (and I hope) that we will find out eventually.

when you ask do you expect an answer on point? I mean everybody watched as much as you did, you ask what is behind that scene (sometimes just about what went on the scene), and we will give u answers that are just us guessing since we do not know the real answer, since that is exactly what the writers want, leave space to your imagination and they answer you later on... I may sound like a mean person, but Im actually curious

Lol, same here. I think the questions are unnecessary, we all watched the same episode. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to leave it to your imagination instead of seeking answers all the time.

Hello Callmechrisss,

I respectfully disagree with your comment. I think that we all have different ways of experiencing the drama and its episodes, and I don't see one way of experiencing the drama better than another. To each, her own I guess. Those who are willing to answer will, and many others will move on to other comments, which is fine. I find that I am learning a lot, and I appreciate the conversations I am having with those who take the time to answer. If I happen to not have any questions, I don't ask any. Thank you for your comment.

Hello Quimi1991,

No, when I ask a question, I don't expect anything. I just put it out there. Those who wish to answer will (or do), and many move on to other comments, which is fine. I experience dramas and their episodes differently, I guess. I always appreciate the answers I am getting, as they allow me to see the episode in a different light at times. I also appreciate the conversations I have (when I have them), some of which were started because of the questions I asked.
Thank you for mentioning that your purpose was not to be mean, I appreciate that. I have found that sometimes dramas answer the questions I have, and sometimes they don't. I appreciate discussing the questions I have with some of the members of the community. If no one were to answer, that would be OK. There is nothing I could do about that, to be honest.

Thank you for your comment. I would also add that some of the language questions I ask, I ask them because I feel that the drama did not give me enough of an answer, and my research did not yield enough of an answer either. I am always appreciative when a kind soul offers some insight, I learn something new in the process.

Dear Ms. Shizu:

I wholeheartedly agree. It is said that you have to give yourself to Bachus (Greek god of wine and parties) as a sacrifice sometimes, so it wouldn't be surprising that he who cheated his odds against Eros and Aphrodite for 404 yrs. would fall head over heels (with a vengeance) for her.

BTW, many thanks to Javabeans and Girlfriday for the recaps, the reviews and generally to create and maintain this space for us.

Sorry for my funny English,

FGB.

I like this drama, however the murder/company plot is a little out of hand.

I actually think Miss Korea is a better show as a whole. It's got some zany comedy, but in general is darker and a bit meater.

Thank you for the recap!!!

Even though I'm loving YFAS, I agree with you. I didn't expect much going into Miss Korea, but the last scene of episode 3 really broke my heart in all the right ways.

But wow, Jun Ji-hyun. She's a star in every sense of the word and seeing her in a drama clearly shows that she belongs at that level.

Song-yi is so funny, sassy and a complete badass gangster; I totally love her!

I'm so glad she started to do dramas.

I tend to not find movie actors and actresses that impressive because 2 hours just isn't enough for me to like them.

So for the longest time I never really felt she was that special.

But being able to see her in a drama I can definitely see how good an actress she is.

Totally agree - still liking MK just that little bit more than YFAS. Although both are good with different plots, I find the acting on the whole better in MK, and even the side-characters in MK are given more interesting stories so much so that as a viewer I'm invested as well in them (not to mention that the supporting actors are great as well).

Trying not to let my obssession with LSK cloud my judgement and objectiveness....but THAT VOICE! And when he started singing on the bus (goofy as he was) - I think I died (laughing) and went to heaven!!

Yes, LSK singing on the bus - they heard my drama prayers and didn't let that VOICE go to waste!! :D The last time I remember him singing on screen is in Coffee Prince - *melt, swoon*!. They should make it a rule for him to sing in every drama! (sorry to go off-topic, but I'm just having a fangirl moment here)

Same. I liked YFAS better after 2 episodes, but Miss Korea definitely pulled ahead after this week. I'm not a fan of the murder hyung thing that they have going on...i have no idea where they are going with it but i hope it doesn't become too big a part of the story and end up ruining the drama for me, because it certainly seems like it has that potential. Things could change but i think they could be doing much more interesting things with their setup than having a secretly murderous hyung being a main driving force or source of conflict.

Still though, i did enjoy most of episodes 3 and 4, but i just don't find myself really dying to know what's going to happen next and impatiently waiting for next week's episode like i am with Miss Korea.

Thanks, I'll start watching. I liked her flat chest as major part of the story. Like me, most Asians are flat. Look at the immigrants from China, they have flat chests. I LUV jjh because she speaks out about her flat chest, while sticking out her flatness. Indirectly saying, you don't need silicone to be popular and sexy. I was saddened that she wore big cup inserts in the wedding scene.

I hope MK doesn't end up getting silicone implants to win. Maybe the cream/lotion will make hers grow to EEE lol

I wouldn't say most Asians are flat. Maybe in the past but these days, with an improved diet, many have naturally larger busts (and we're much taller as well).

Also, from what I see, a lot of Southeast Asians were naturally filled out even when their diet isn't as good.

Agreed. I do not like none of the leads from the two dramas. I actually do not like the male lead from this drama.( I know I belong to the minority group> Most women see to adore him) I think an actress portrays an over the top actress( when it comes to her ego ) is not that difficult so that I am not sold with her acting skill yet. But the plot is interesting and fast so it's interesting to watch. The Chaboel's son who seem to plot many murders is somewhat more unbelievable than the Alien who have been living in Korea more than four hundred years.
When a drama start off with fast speed, sometimes the speed tapers off and the story will get boring,,, I hope this is not the case for this drama.

MK's female lead is more emotionally fragile despite of her strong facade and somehow viewers can relate to her. The chemistry between the leads are quite strong.

Required fields are marked *

I used to think the same, that the whole murder thing would turn this whole drama into a loose mess. Other than Jae Kyung's brother being in love with Song Yi, it had nothing to do with the main plot, after all. But it has now been intertwined together quite nicely, with the whole clutch thing and Song Yi's rival being one of the victims.

Love an alien who can freeze time, teleport, in order to save a girl, no less! Would love to have such a BF if he looks anything like KSH!! He is Not your regular ET.

I can't get pass the actresses wearing such skimpy clothing on the yacht. It's Dec in Seoul on the water, at night! And it's snowing! JJH has a low cut dress w but a jacket draped over her shoulder. YIA wears a sleeveless dress. How do they not catch cold?

I like it that they mention the director who insinuates that an actress performs sexual favours before he'd consider her for a role. That sort of behaviour should be talked about, ridiculed in the open, b4 it can be condemned and outlawed.

Is that a kiss? Our PM would say that "That's just lips crashing!" LOL.

One more thing, I'm not sure if anyone can call his interactions with her "Fate" or "IN Yeon" anymore. At least after this ep, I don't buy it.
IF he CHOSE to be involved or entangled in her affairs, it isn't Fate, it's Will. Surely he knew his spaceships were leaving at a certain time. Yet he chose to see her home, he chose to sit down for a meal, etc. Sure, he was incapacitated bcos of the arsenic. But didn't he subconsciously or not so subconsciously just wanted to be there, for a little bit longer than prudent, if he really wanted to be on time for his departure???

That was my thought on this episode, that when he blurted out that he would protect her on the way home, in his mind is was already calculating how to squeeze it in before the ET contingent packed up and went home.

That's part of the reason he spent 400 years clamping down on his impulsiveness, only to have it break free with Song-yi. I think his exasperated looks are aimed at himself every bit as much as SY. LOL

@both. I'm sorry to say Fate is Asian and you're not Asian. You never heard your mom say to you all your life, "What sins did I do in previous life to deserve a fate of having you as my child?"
Do you know why you believe in free will? Your own thinkers and philosophers do NOT believe in free will but your Christian leaders believe in free will.

You should know that there are cultures in this world other then your own.

Required fields are marked *

Haha, fate is Asian! I would live to see a drama (would have to be white people visiting an Asian country) and Asian Fate coming out and showing them what they are missing for not being Asian. It could be titled "The Hand of Fate."

Of course, fate crosses all cultures. The sayings of kismet, "Can't escape destiny," "what you do here, you pay here..." And others are about fate. Everything else is about saying that fate can be changed which i wouldnt say is a non-asian way to look at fate.

You are entitled to your opinion, but to say that only Asians have fate is very closed minded and discounts all the ways almost every culture defines and incorporates fate.

Required fields are marked *

I also feel uncomfortable with the word "Asian" culture. What is Asian culture anyway when the continent encompasses such various countries and cultures like China, India, Middle Eastern Asian countries as well as Southeastern Asian countries and Central Asian countries? There are similarities but also a lot of differences.

Hell, even among Koreans I find different cultures depending on where you grew up (for example Korean Korean v. Korean American v. Korean Chinese), what age you are (analogue v. digital), your gender and social class.

While Christian leaders believe in free will, isn't the fact that their God is "all knowing" mean that that everything is still fated?

I guess from the individual person's perspective it's their own free will, but from their God's perspective he or she already knows what that person is going to do.

@ KDaddict: I like how the drama is playing with precisely this Fate/Will concept and teasing the characters with it, by having Min-joon lecture on how things like love are just procreational urges, then having him experience these premonitions.

It's also hard to ignore the Fate aspect when you've got the OST serenading in the background: "You aaare my destinyyy..."! (I love this song, but sometimes it makes me giggle at the wrong moments)

You can have fate and free will at the same time.

In many East Asian beliefs, fate is merely about the possibilities. But it's up to you to decide which "fate" to choose.

For example, you might be able to become a doctor, or lawyer, or environmental activist. But fate says you'll never be an astronaut or deep sea diver.

I've never heard of an East Asian story where people are incapable of changing their fate. In fact, many of our folklores talk about people doing good deeds to help pay for their original sins for a past life to change their own fates.

This writer must have majored in the slow reveal with a minor in airtight timing. It's almost like a murder mystery. I love how the action skipped ahead 60 hours to the police fishing a body out of the water, and then back and forth between our OTP's points of view. Even the sageuk flashbacks spoon feed us just enough, always leaving us with more questions.

Just what I was thinking! the whole thing was very slickly presented, like a cop procedural drama, down to the Prosecutor zooming in on the disappearing Min-joon on the video tapes. I don't know if they introduced a different editing style just to match the police investigation theme of this episode, but it was pretty well done!

Just add a dose of one murder-per-episode, and we'll have an Agatha Christie whodunnit! It's great how well they're handling all the different storylines at the moment.

One thing I'm really loving, and that I particularly noticed in this episode, is the art direction - especially with Min Joon's apartment, where the warm, glowing light of the opulent but comfortably enclosed space of his secret inner sanctum contrasts with the rest of his immaculate but cold living quarters. Such a lovely, subtle visual metaphor, that.

Loving this drama about 100 times more than I expected to. I thought it would be goofy and silly, but it's totally taken me in. Jun Ji Hyun really shines in this role, too.

Sb asked why YH's MIL wanted to have her killed. In this ep, we see her own parents wanting to do the same.

It wasn't bcos they didn't want to feed an extra mouth that had no use for them. The answer is that Chastity was a mighty mighty big deal in Josoen times. In the MIL's case, she wanted to make it appear that her DIL preferred to die rather than live w/o her husband. That'd make her supremely Chase. A family w such a DIL can be awarded a commemorative plague by the King, and it carried great prestige for the family.

In the case of her own parents, it was bcos in her status being a widow, she brought home a man, a stranger. That act would make ppl assume that they were lovers. Even her mother said: Why would you live with that defiled body, and defile our family name? For that impropriety, she had to be killed.

Josoen times, feudal times, and sense of morality, and the injustice to women!

One piece of advice for everyone in this drama: don't ever be alone in a room with Jae-kyung!

The way I see it, HK's in danger because he doesn't want the verdict of Yura's death to be neatly filed away as a suicide, as his JK planned. Song-yi's in danger cos she knew about the secret relationship between JK and Yura and for the USB in the clutch bag. Se-mi's in danger if she learns too much from either HK or SY. Luckily, we know Min-joon's hard to kill! :)

But here's a warning to you, Show - please don't kill Lawyer Jang!

When SY threatened MJ in order to stay in his house, I was totally like "That's my girl!" Hahas She totally own it when she REQUESTED to stay in the house. Like a BOSS!

Oh, and i didn't used to like Yura as she was kind of always screaming at every appearance she made, but in this episode I felt that she really could have become friends with SY. They're kind of alike in some ways, as in they are both competitive but vulnerable on the inside.(But of course our dear SY is more adorable). A pity Yura has to die so early in the drama:( Though now everyone is pointing fingers at SY for Yura's death, but maybe SY will be the one to reveal everthing(with the help of MJ, maybe?) as she holds the information about the ties between Yura & Mr. Evil? Then the public will turn to like SY more and also clear her reputation of a bitchy bimbo cuz don't we all know, she's not like that!

Too bad she's gone. i was just started to not hate her.

i really enjoyed the yura/song-yi bathroom scene. sort of how song-yi can't be herself/has to project this "celebrity" image for the cameras, she can be her ego-crazed, sassy self around yura. it really is a pity that we won't be seeing any more of that.

for now, song-yi continues to be awesome (puppy-facing before resorting to blackmailing her stay at min-joon's place), but i'm not as attached to min-joon as i would have liked. i suppose it's the rigidity of his character, but hopefully he'll contract some of that emotional wreckage from song-yi (also omg how great would sassy min-joon be).

haha, anyone care to bet that Min-joon would ever claim it was him, out of a sense of chivalry? i'm guessing his sense of chivalry's even smaller than his sense of sympathy! :D

But on the topic of digestion, it was funny seeing Joseon Min-joon enjoying the food with gusto and fully stuffing his face! Very appropriate image for the holiday season!

the feels I have for this show are out of this world! LOL
this ep was hilarious (the posing battle was to die for!) and at the same time my heart was fluttering at every songyi and minjoon scenes.

..but can they slow down on the creepy hyung murder spree. everyone will be dead by the end of this drama.

Just love the two together...They are adorable ..

The pose off during the wedding was hilarious..bride's expression was priceless. Love the shiny shoes. Wish I had a pair.

So happy to see Gianna Jun back on the small screen..She is still stunning and this part suits her to a T...great comedic timing...

maybe when they mix saliva and blood, one of them will become also an alien, or better yet a human being. LIke HIV, contaminating each other. Well, i hope it's the latter. For alien Min-joon, human saliva and blood could be a virus to him, hahaha. I can dream, can't I =).

I was totally thinking HIV and how someone could die from it. Maybe it might take away his power and he will finally die like a human.

The kiss came earlier than I ever expected while I don't think that death is the repercussion of mixing fluids, I still think that it is something major. Me was thinking that when MJ gets in contact with human fluids then he will adapt to it and say become normal with aging and all there is to it. Thus, he cannot come back to where he came from which why he avoids it.

this is just a theory but there has to be sacrifice to it since it has set up to be a HUGE barrier for the skinship.. and when you have THAT.. the consequence has to be BIG

I'm thrilled every time you like the drama that I also like because that means I get to read your recap soon after it has aired.
I really enjoy reading your recaps as well as girlfriday's. So spot on with the comments. Witty & funny as well. Kudos to you both and to the other contributors too.

So much for not being able to swap saliva with humans. A kiss in episode 4 -- thought we only see this on cable. I cheered when he saw her interview and confirmed for himself that she is, in fact, the doppelganger Yi Hwa he saved twelve years ago. And Hwi Kyung is certainly making it hard for Se Mi not to love him.

I am loving the Joseon storyline. I don’t even mind the twelve-year age difference between Kim Soo Hyun (1988) and Kim Hyun Soo (2000). Her crush on him is palpable, and he may disguise it as protecting her now, but I believe he subconsciously returns the feelings because they’re kindred spirits. Otherwise, why would he offer to follow her home and be separated from his spaceship? But moreover, why did his alien comrades not even try to page him to go home with them? Looks like evil was reincarnated into the other parent from Yi Hwa’s father to Song Yi’s mother.

Was Song Yi lying when she said there was only one pair of those heels in Korea in the last episode? Because not only could her assistant get another pair, but Yura owns a pair, too. The two ladies upstaging the bride as if it were their own photo shoot was rude. Then Yura wanting make a big announcement at someone else’s wedding -- no respect for the newlyweds. Did that leaked YouTube video of their confrontation not contain the part where Yura provoked Song Yi ?

Thanks for the recap, javabeans!

I think she was just bragging about the heels. Those heels must have been rare and expensive but not unique.

Yeah, she said they were the only pair in Korea. It's definitely possible that Yura could have ordered a pair for herself imported. Songyi did say that they were incredibly expensive when she left the message on minjoon's beeper.

The kiss honestly came out of left field for me as i was totally not expecting it given the no mixing of the saliva/blood rule but then it gave it to us this early on AND i love how min joon is the one who knows about it. He's so going to fall for her first. I just know it.
Im starting to think maybe when he said no mixing saliva that it was probably just a preference given his cleanliness/OCD tendencies. That doesn't explain the blood though, but that could probably just be something he doesn't wish to experiment with since he is of a different species and that probably wouldn't be a good idea.
That's what im gonna go with if the show doesn't address that issue.

honestly, despite my love for the writer, i just didn't expect this drama to be this solid. really thrilled. i think i've got a crack drama on my hands. i sat in front of my screen and just soaked up the episode, from first to finish. no skimming whatsoever.

THAT SAID, this show better not go aurora princess on us and start killing off characters left and right. enough deaths for the first four episodes.

the posing was absolutely absurd and hilarious and fantastic.

i'm still having a hard time grasping why both yi-hwa's in-laws and her family tried to kill her. according to my mom, her in-laws wanted to follow her dead husband so she would last in memory as a virtuous wife to their son...

and her birth family wanted her dead after she arrived home in the company of min-joon, apparently a highly disgraceful thing... or, they tried to kill her because she was in on the in-laws' plot from the start. i am still confuddled over this, anyone can clarify?

KDaddict's comment (#19) explained the thing about her inlaws killing her off very well.

As for her own family, arriving in the company of a male stranger (minjoon) makes it look like they had relations, which would be extremely improper and disgraceful under normal circumstances, but made worse by the fact that she is technically a married woman. Hope that clears it up some :)

thank you, i just read it! it does clear it up some, but i guess i'm trying to wrap my head around it now :) i do wish the show had been a tad clearer about it. i definitely didn't really pick it up (even had my mom watch it with me a second time so i could get her to explain it to me).

see, i was thinking the mother in law was a stepmother or something, and offing the stepson and step-daughter-in-law would, i don't know, leave her with riches that would have gone to them otherwise. haha.

I'm guessing that in addition to all that, the journey from Yi-hwa's husband's house to her home probably takes a few days (unless you rely on Min-joon's superpowers or you're Kim Bung-do in QIHM), so it looks like she spent several days alone with him while unchaperoned (remember how in Ep 1 when her carriage blew over the cliff, she had a full entourage).

(At least, I'm guessing they didn't walk all the way...? It would be unrealistic to see them travelling for days on the road in winter with no horses, no coats and no money or food)

I was hoping YH's father had been pressured into "faking" his daughter's death...but nope, just looks like he puts pseudo-principles of honour above his own flesh and blood.

At this point, I can't tell if the writer is foreshadowing or throwing out a red herring with Se-mi's mom going to the fortune teller. If it turns out to be true, then either Song-yi gets to take a ride to another star at the end of this drama or Song-yi retires from showbiz.

The character of Se-mi is bugging me. She seems sympathetic most of the time, not getting the man she loves or the parts she wants. However, she gets her little digs in, too, while trying to come off as innocent. I love the actress who plays her, so I'm hoping she doesn't turn out to be a backstabbing hypocrite in a few episodes' time.

I was genuinely upset for Se-mi when she got ignored by the 2 bitchy actresses, then insulted by the douchebag director (ugh!).

I was glad when Hwi-kyung came to her rescue, but then he totally ruined it by bringing up his would-be marriage to Song-yi. Add to this her quietly determined mother and being Song-yi'd wherever she goes (even at her own interview, poor gal!), I'd say it won't be long before she snaps.

I just hope she doesn't end up helping evil hyung, intentionally or not.

Considering MJ came to the Earth in a spaceship he must be from a civilization far more advanced than ours (at least in science and technology). So it is pretty interesting to see him so old-fashioned in the technology he uses (beeper for heaven's sake) and his taste in books, and his Confucian beliefs (the young should respect the old). It is pretty hilarious that he is genuinely offended when people talk down to him or otherwise treat him like he is younger than them.

But even though he's lived here for so long, he hasn't had that many real/close relationships, so in a sense, whether young or old, he's still a greenhorn and pretty inexperienced with that kind of thing.

Which brings up a question - how long do aliens back home live? So far, he doesn't seem to miss his family or worry about their not being there when he goes back. Is that because time passes differently there?

sweet. that murderer needs a straight-jacket. he is really the biggest idiot. there are more innovative ways to solve problems. murder is medieval.

um what bothers me is technically, you can´t come from a STAR. stars are hot. .... I mean the balls of fire in the sky not drama stars. well, them too. how funny would it be if she asked to fetch something from her apartment and theysaw him coming out from there, and asked him: did you come from the stars´?

This drama is gonna give me heartaches, I can see it coming. How am I supposed to wait another week after that unexpected kiss? I'm not ready, drama!

That part were Song Yi was trying to hide, I just knew that she'll end up in Minjoon's but gosh, how hard I screamed when he opened the door, kyaaaaaaa!!!! Kim Soohyun just became a million times more attractive to me since I last saw him in HaePeumDal. I think I'll go crazy soon.

I love those epilogues! They're like snippets of who the characters are.

I love so many things in this drama but I have to sleep so I'm not going to mention everything. This is the drama but keeps me happy these days. Kyaaaaaa!!!!!!

Thanks for the recaps, javabeans!

In lots of traditional cultures, not just in Joseon, a woman's role was totally defined by her father, husband and sons (if she had them). Her father has given her in marriage to another family and now she is a member of that family. But, because her husband dies before the marriage can be consummated and she is now a widow, she can't remarry and she has no children to solidify her place in her dead husband's family. She is just a useless mouth to feed and a lifelong responsibility for them. So the only honourable course of action for both her new family and her birth family is for her to "choose" to follow her husband in death by suicide as a "chaste" widow. There seems to be an actual award from the government for women who do this. Pretty draconian but it was not all that uncommon an outcome in many cultures for young, childless widows to become societal non-persons. There was an Indo-Canadian film called Water a few years ago which explores exactly this issue in traditional Indian society.

When she returns to her birth family in the company of an unknown man, she's doubly dishonoured them in the eyes of her father. The optics of the situation are bad because it looks like she has run away with another man rather than chose suicide as a chaste widow. When her mother tells her to run away and live as if she is dead, the poor girl has very few options open to her. She can maybe become a beggar, a gisaeng or a Buddhist nun? Perhaps she's going to support herself as Joseon's first fantasy sic-fi author.

Nice. I was about to bring up all those instances in other cultures where the wife is buried alive with the husband or burnt in a pyre together with the husband to prove what a 'virtuous' wife she is too. Its really pretty common in medieval times and it does cut across a number of cultures.
I find it pretty hard to digest as a woman of modern times but I'm never gladder than when I see these things that I live in the 21st century...

The situation for young, childless widows was completely reversed in medieval Europe; it was a very enviable position to be in for women. She became what is known as a "merry widow". It had to do with the whole concept and purpose of the dowry. Her dowry, in the form of money, land, commercial enterprises etc, was controlled by her husband but it remained hers as an asset she brought into the marriage. If her husband died leaving her without children, specifically sons, she assumed complete control over everything in her dowry. She became financially independent and guys would be lining up around the block to marry her. For younger sons, shut out of a family's estate because of the system of primogeniture, marrying a widow with assets was the best way of achieving financial independence. But, unlike her first marriage which was most often a business arrangement between two families, she would have complete freedom to marry or not marry as a widow and would have her choice of husbands. In The Canterbury Tales, the Wife of Bath has had four husbands, the last one a much younger, poorer man she marries for love.

Perhaps she’s going to support herself as Joseon’s first fantasy sic-fi author.

That would be an interesting twist. Another reason that there should be a second season of Joseon X-Files(Secret Investigation Record )

I'm actually surprised at how much I'm loving this show - it's not loud or overly dramatic considering people die in it left right and centre, nor is the world of of celebs portrayed as mere superficial fluff. Perhaps it has something to do with the directing and exposition of the more dramatic elements which come off rather subdued and less obtrusive. It's a nice touch.

I'm loving the way the tension is unravelled too, by offering multiple scenarios; I wasn't sold on it to begin with, but by the end I could see how it grants us a lot more character perspective and allows for a much pacier storyline, rather clever actually!

And my, Kim Soo Hyun is so damn suited to play roles from the sageuk period, he carries it off so effortlessly. I like how the flashbacks to his Joseun past serves to be complimentary rather than intrusive on the present timeline, it's extremely captivating and well utilised. Of course it helps when the lead actor is pretty damn charismatic on screen, his chemistry with both past and present doppelgänger is evident, no necessarily in a romantic way, but in a which shows he's affected by her presence.

As always, Jun Ji Hyun continues to rock my socks with each passing episode, but what I'm most impressed with is the way she exuberantly carries her haughty celebrity status with a layer of groundedness, and how she's able to balance the two without seeming inconsistent with her character. I have nothing but admiration for her acting talents!

I'm already anticipating the next episode!! Way to tease us at the end! Thank you for the recap. x

I am wondering if MJ saw the rival falling in the future..not Song Yi. They both had the same shoe? And if im not wrong..while in the bridal waiting room..someone mentioned that NA MIRAE broke up with her boyfriend thats why she was not at the party? Is the drama referencing another drama character?

If you have been alone for that period of time (4 centuries, gasp!) and seeing the same dynamic over human life for that long, it is a wonder if it doesn't left you feeling cold. You've seen everything that is there to see, so *shrug. So, I am content to just wait the fire that is Song Yi melt the ice that is Min Joon.
