Three Days in danger of losing lead actor Yoochun
by javabeans
javabeans: Um. What is wrong with Three Days?
girlfriday: I can’t even with this show.
javabeans: At first when it started to hedge about timeslots and airdates, I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, because sure, not all pre-production schedules have to go super smoothly. But now its star, Yoochun, is backpedaling on even doing the drama at all? This is bad news bears.
girlfriday: It’s a disaster. So apparently what happened was, his current movie Sea Fog is shooting right now, and as soon as it heard that Three Days was being dropped by SBS, it went ahead and scheduled Yoochun for shoots, only to have SBS take it back and put it on their February schedule after all, leaving Yoochun double-booked for the drama and the movie. Er, what kind of movie does their production schedule based on the wishy-washy SBS drama department anyway?
javabeans: I know, you’d think there’d be a better system in place. Unless… there’s actually a reason that Three Days is bumping up against so much trouble and this is just a sign to all of us to jump ship. Where there’s smoke, yada yada.
girlfriday: I find it really strange that Yoochun is SUDDENLY too busy because of a movie he’s already been shooting.
javabeans: Right? He is an idol star who, like, has shot dramas around his overseas concert dates and recording schedules. I have no reason to believe that Three Days would be more prone to production issues (it’s not a grandiose sageuk, doesn’t need extra time for special effects, not especially high-budget or anything), but all this news about its production uncertainties does make me wonder.
girlfriday: Seriously. Like you say, it’s totally possible that there’s nothing really wrong with the show, but there’s sort of a critical mass of problems for the production that make it hard to ignore. I expect them to do another round of negotiations and come back with more reassurances that everything is really fine, but on the off chance that they really do lose their star, uh…
javabeans: Well if Yoochun’s not gonna do it, I’m probably not gonna watch it, is all I’m sayin’. I mean, it’s not like I’m a super fangirl who will watch whatever he does, but first of all, he does have a nose for meaty roles and if he drops it I’m gonna be suspicious, and secondly, unless you get somebody even better, I don’t have such an attachment to the writer of Ghost or Sign to keep me interested.
girlfriday: Why does dramaland always do this to the shows I’m most looking forward to? Is it me? Did I curse it with my optimism?
javabeans: Yes. The universe wants you to be miserable and pessimistic.
girlfriday: Well if Yoochun: Presidential Bodyguard doesn’t happen, I’ll be well on my way.
javabeans: Not that we needed the push, but, you know.

Oh I am actually more disappointed to hear DB not finding the writer (team) good enough. The same writer(s) gave us the tightly-written and thoroughly engaging King of Drama, Harvest Villa, Sign and Ghost (okay, this isn't their best). I have been a big fan. Will watch it as long as these writers are still penning the show. I like Yuchun enough but him not leading the show wouldn't stop me there.
