Go Soo pairs with Moon Chae-won as lifelong lovers
by javabeans
Go Soo and Moon Chae-won are being paired together—yay! But… the project is only a short film—pooh?
The project is called The Day Min-woo Arrives and it comes from famed writer-director-producer Kang Je-kyu, whose previous productions include Shiri, Taegukgi, and My Way. So while it may be a smaller project, it’s still rather high-profile, so there is that.
The Day Min-woo Arrives is part of a larger project grouping four famous Asian directors, each of whom will produce a short that will then be screened as part of an omnibus project bearing the title Beautiful 2014. Director Kang is both writing and directing this project, which follows the life of a man separated from his beloved in the North-South division. The film follows the man in the sixty years afterward, as well as the woman who has waited for him through all that time, showcasing a stirring story of longing and love.
I love both actors, who have both been improving year to year and do lovely jobs in heart-rending romantic roles. While Good Doctor wasn’t my favorite role from Moon Chae-won, it didn’t diminish my liking for her, considering how great she was in prior projects like Princess’s Man and War of the Arrows. Go Soo, on the other hand, pretty much rocked the heck out of his Empire of Gold role with a relentless performance I found rather riveting. Plus, his eyes were all about the romantic longing in Will It Snow For Christmas.
The Day Min-woo Arrives will begin filming in mid-January, and will screen in March at the Hong Kong International Film Festival. It will then be released in April.

They've been separated for 60 years? So, they're playing as elderlies or as the young counterparts? I'm a little confuse with their roles.

Most likely both with a loads of makeup for the older version. It will probably show their young love and then the eventual reunion with their 70+ versions.
It's the kind of story I would gobble at once. Looking forward to this, it sounds heart warming and guy wrenching all at the same time.

I'm thinking more along the lines of The Notebook. The younger counterparts will probably get the majority of screentime and the elderly (different actors) will probably be the narrator of the story. Make up is scary and magical, but I cannot fathom its success in making someone look 60 years older...

Actually the older counterpart of Moon Chae Won's character has already been cast and will be played by the lovely Son Sook. The articles don't mention Go Soo's older counterpart, so I hope it is not like Titanic >-<

Iris 1 is fine. Iris 2 is terrible. Athena is a disaster. And you're right non of them can be compared to the brilliance of Shiri.

Oooooh- awesome pairing, but yeah boo to a short film. Nonetheless can't wait to see Go Soo and Chae-won act together. I love it when a strong actor and actress do a project together.

Not a fan of Good Doctor. The drama was horrendous,if it wasn't for MCW I could have easily dropped it. And yes my least favorite of her roles.
I'm glad she'll be directed by PD Kang. I love the films Shiri and Taegukgi.

Go Soo is killing me with his eyes every time he has an emotional act. The way he stare and stare at Han Ye Seul in Will it Snow at Christmas... Auuuuugh!

I agree. I tried to defend the project numerous times, but the simplistic plots and how it revolved around one character made the project really boring and childish. Glad Moon Chae Won is going to back to projects with depth. She is too awesome to be wasted. Can't wait for this movie!

Maybe,it's just a matter of personal preference. Not gonna argue with So Hyun's performance in TPM. MCW's character in GD does not have the same gravitas as her previous roles. Quirky, indepent and strong-minded woman. A character that can easily be liked that is her role in GD. But if compared to her roles in TPM,WoA and NG her character in GD fizzles. She was way better actor in those roles. Maybe, because her roles are well-written in those dramas. Unlike in Good Doctor where her character ends up as a mere plot device for the character of the lead actor. It is totally infuriating when dramas do that to their female leads.

I'd probably rank her performances in brilliant legacy, take care of young lady, and good doctor all behind her performances in princess's man, nice guy, and War of Arrows, all of which were my top favorites.
Loved Hong So Hyun in Princess's man, as i didn't think much of her before that role.

I like MCW first and foremost as Jeong Hyang in Painter of The wind, although she's a bit green in that role. Then I love her in TPM, Nice Guy and Good Doctor. I love her as Cha Yeon Seo, she's hilarious as noona but capable of handling her own matters. I love how MCW always picks strong, independent woman, not damsel in distress or Candy heroine

I think she was AWESOME in Innocent Man (Nice Guy) as a cold character, which really contrasted with her innocent role in The Princess' Man. I love how she always picks diverse roles.

Btw is South Korea really miss North Korean so badly?? So many movies portrayed North-South relationships these days.. Not to mention drama like IRIS, King 2 Hearts when NK became important part of that drama

What do you mean by miss? The 2 Koreas shouldn't even be 2 if fate was kind. They are of the same ethnicity, with the same language and lineage.

I love them both. I was and still am a big fan of Go Soo, ever since I saw his brilliant performance in Will It Snow For Christmas and Love 911. His eyes, man his eyes! He's a melo king. And Moon Chae won, I loved her in Nice Guy. She had brilliant chemistry with SJK. And the plot was amazing. Anyway, hoping for the best.

Moon Chae Won is an actress I openly admire because she is the first to call out the industry for the less diverse roles available to females. I have been whining about the same problem for years. I feel like now days, with an exception for a few, all the meaty and interesting roles are handing to the males, while females are just used as plot devices. I was at first disappointed with the fact that she picked Good Doctor, and even to a degree Nice Guy, after the wonderful Princess Man, but now I have come to realize that females just have a limited choice in the kdrama world, and she still picked roles that were different. I am rooting for her to challenge the norm as she grows as an actress. It will take her a couple of years, but I hope somebody will expose this problem. We have too many talented actresses to leave them in the shadows of the actors. This movie is already looking interesting and meaty, so I can't wait for her comeback to the drama world. Go Chaewon!

Omg I can't wait. Moon Chae Won is my favorite actress. She so awesome and I live how she picks diverse independent roles instead of being typecasted into candy type of roles. Her and SJK had amazing chemistry. I can't wait to see her and Go Soo

I'm definitely anticipating for this film, Go Soo & Moon Chae Won is both a great actor & actress and on top of that the writer-director-producer of this short film is also great. So i have so much expectation for this. The way the story will unfold seems like 'The Notebook' to me. We will probably start at one of the oldies (probably Go Soo's olden character) who is narrating the story and then we flashback to when they are younger and then the story starts. It'll probably show how they meet, fall in love, got separated etc. then at the end they'll probably show us the 60 years later when they finally meet again (where we go back to were the film started, the first scene) and then die together.
It sounded cliche but if it's well done then it can be a classic film. I trust the writer-director-producer Kang Je Kyu though since both his film Shiri & Taegukgi is amazing.
