Jung Kyung-ho lines up serial-killer movie
by javabeans
Jung Kyung-ho has picked a new project, a thriller movie called Manhole that revolves around about a serial killer who makes use of a manhole to kidnap and kill. And it looks like Jung got in touch with his darker side through the gritty cable drama he did earlier this year, Heartless City, because in Manhole he’ll be playing the serial killer.
He’s also got two fantastic co-stars, playing the sisters who fall victim to the criminal and fight for their lives. Cast as the younger sister is 13-year-old Kim Sae-ron, who wowed with her precocious acting in movies like Ajusshi and My Neighbor, as well as the recent school drama Queen’s Classroom. Up for the unni role is Jung Yumi (Kkangchulie, I Need Romance 2012), who is considering the project favorably but not yet a lock. When Kim Sae-ron gets kidnapped via the manhole, it’s unni who leaps through to save her.
I would love for Jung Yumi to take the role, for several reasons, the simplest being that I love Jung Yumi and always want her to do more things that I can then watch her in. But also, she has a very interesting quirky vibe that I can see fitting really well with Kim Sae-ron; they both have this vaguely bird-like quality that I find endearing, this sense of delicacy mixed with oddball charm.
On top of that, it would be fun to see both Jungs acting together again, because they were enjoyable together in the one-episode Drama Special The Great Gye Choon-bin a few years back where she was completely 4D and he was a wimp, and they fell in love. Granted, I’m pretty sure there’ll be no romance between serial killer and victim in Manhole (it’s not THAT kind of movie, thank goodness), but I still think fondly of their rapport.
Director Shin Jae-young is an up-and-comer with a filmography mostly in short film, so it’s hard to say what his style is like, but it sounds like a pretty straightforward cat-and-mouse thriller. No word yet on when producers aim to release the movie.

I was going to say that. He can bring the heavy and it gives me chills, but when he is cute, he just blends in with everyone else out there.
Same with SJK. Leave the cute for the CFs.

yes very true. I love him more when he portrayed darker role than cute one. He is much more appealing and not to mention his "parksa adeul" in cruel city is one of coolest character ever, bloody hot and sexy! Bring it on oppa! Fighting!

I love that both MiSa costars (him and So Ji-sub) chose this year to show us a new and 10x upgraded side of themselves as actors, for the first time - and that both had fans gushing happily over the transformation.
And yeah, dark JKH is, well, UNF. I'm just glad he recovered from the injuries he sustained while filming Cruel City and is now picking his next.

Hopefully he won't.... But the fear of being typecast was his reason for turning toward darker roles in the first place, because he used to do lots of rom com

as much as i loved and enjoyed city hunter, i want to see jung kyung ho in more 'lighter' roles again. doesn't have to be a rom-com, can be a melo. until then, happy he had sign on to this. looking forward! ^^

You mean Cruel City/Heartless City of course. City Hunter had Lee Min Hot.
Agree with everyone about his being daebak in Cruel City.
Love him, love Kim Sae Ron and Jun Yumi too. So triple Yay!

Ooh...it would be interesting to have Jung kyung ho pitted against Jung Yoo Mi after having them previously as romantic costars...I've wanted to see them paired up again so this is great news....also adore Sae Ron even more after Queens Classroom (phenomenal show)

So, this is the second movie for Jung Kyung Ho played a criminal. After became an arrogant rockstar on comedy movie, FYSB. I think its a good choice. I can't wait to watch him become a killer. And I'm ready to 'hated' him. But, is it fantagio production? They all (JKH, KSR, JYM) from the same agency LOL

Jung Kyung Ho is at the top of my list of favorite actors! I loved him first in Smile you where was the most adorable dork. But he slayed me completely in Heartless City (one of the best dramas of 2013 hands down). I will watch him in anything! Hope he come back to dramas soon!

I adore Jung Kyung-ho. He was fantastic in Heartless City, and about the only good thing in the whole show. I still haven't finished it, though, since I inadvertently discovered how it ended. Thanks a lot Dramafever and your spoilery ways! *shakes fist at screen*. Why did they have to post that video, and why did I have to watch it? *sigh* But I could see the ending coming a mile away so I wasn't that surprised, just upset because it felt like a waste.
Anywho~! I really hope to see this movie. Jung Kyung-ho is excellent in dark roles. Granted I've only seen him in HC, so I only have that to go on. (I loved Doctor's Son, though!) So this should be a really good movie. Part of me wishes he wasn't playing the bad guy, but whatever, maybe next time. I hope he does another drama soon on a major network playing the lead. He's such a brilliant actor, and so sexy too!
I'm not too familiar with Jung Yumi, but I've seen Kim Sae-ron in Ahjusshi. She was so good in that too.

Jung Kyung Ho is a sexy beast in a darker role as proven by Heartless City. Everybody else paled in comparison in that drama (except for Uncle Saffari - he was my second favourite - though he doesn't get as much screen time on Empress Ki now). I'm not sure if I can describe it properly, but he can just project this aura of danger while shooting sizzling looks (that make me swoon) with those eyes of his and the help of his trusty guyliner.
So I say bring on the serial killerness...just gimmie a sec to make sure all my doors and windows are locked and that I'm hiding safely underneath my blankie. And that the light is on. And I wouldn't mind if someone offered to hold my hand. Or someone to squee with. :)

I'm not really a serial killer movie kind of girl, but Jung Kyung Ho is sooo hot when he plays dark that I have to watch it just for him . I love him doing rom com but I love him even more playing dark characters.
