Answer Me 1994: Episode 8
by javabeans
Is that not the saddest shot ever, with the third wheel left behind to peer at the other twosome? Brace your hearts for some tugging, because there’s plenty of moments both sweet and bittersweet in this episode, which spreads some of the love around to the other characters, who get a moment to shine and bond amongst themselves. And a surprise twist! (If you’re me, that is, being surprised at the way one of the love triangles shakes out.)
Ratings continue to climb; this episode scored another high with 7.1%.

EPISODE 8: “A moment’s choice decides your whole life”
2013. Na-jung grumbles at the inconvenience of preparing more drinking snacks for the crew, and calls Garbage “Oppa” as always. (This points us in the “Oppa’s not the husband” direction since she previously addressed her husband differently, but it’s not enough to take him out of the running. And clearly this show knows how to be coy about things like this.)
Garbage accidentally spatters the only mayo they’ve got left, then carefully scrapes it off her face into a serving dish (gross). Then we get a glimpse at her wedding photo, but as the groom is predictably kept out of sight, it’s not even much of a tease.
1994. The gang (minus Chilbongie) sprawls on the campus lawn drinking beer, and it’s Binggeure’s turn to answer a question: Which of the two girls would you marry, if forced to choose between them? This seems like a dangerous game.
Binggeure picks Na-jung, and so does Samcheonpo. Yoon-jin doesn’t mind being passed over the first time, but Samcheonpo just has to state his case with a few backhanded insults (he is soooo tone-deaf to social cues and it cracks me up) and gets beer spewed in his face.
Haitai picks Yoon-jin readily, and expects to get picked right back. But she names Garbage, making Haitai pouty.
Then it’s Oppa’s turn, and Na-jung holds her breath in anticipation—only to be bypassed for Yoon-jin. Aw. I have a feeling he’s just deflecting but Na-jung feels the blow, so at her turn she points defiantly elsewhere—at Chilbongie, walking toward them. Aw, more deflection. Then when Samcheonpo tries to borrow Chilbongie’s baseball cap, Na-jung intercepts it and plops it on her face to cover her tears.
Garbage steps aside to check his pager message, and Na-jung follows to make him re-answer the question. It’s almost funny, the dead-serious way she poses the hypothetical question (“The earth is destroyed, the mountains crumble, the land bursts, the seas part, all beasts and humans die—the only ones left are you, me, and Yoon-jin”), but it just means so much to her and that pinches my heart.
Oppa looks at her with serious eyes, coming close. He turns the baseball cap around and cups her face in his hands, looking sincere as he says, “Of course it’s you. Do I have anything but you?”
It’s sweet and heartfelt… until he flips that mental switch and turns jokey, squeezing her cheeks like they’re made of putty, teasing that he’d never find a toy as entertaining as her. Oh, Oppa. Did you mean it? And if so, why do you have to cover it up by hurting Na-jung?
He smooshes her face and keeps laughing while her eyes well up with tears. She calls him a moron and kicks him in the shin, which I’m thinking he earned.
Back with the gang, Chilbongie gets the same question posed to him, and he answers easily, “Na-jung, no matter what.”
On a rainy day, Yoon-jin walks into a pharmacy (the song is Kim Gun-mo’s “Red Umbrella,” to match the one she carries) and finds Haitai already at the counter. He freezes up as the pharmacist packs up his purchases, which includes a box of condoms, and I swear you can see the panicked wheels turning in Haitai’s brain, trying to think of an explanation.
He lags behind her on their walk home, then tosses his umbrella away so he can use the excuse to share hers. He makes the worst explanation ever for why he would be buying condoms—that his professor declared that one shouldn’t feel shame buying them, and so he was just doing that as practice, yunno, like a social experiment. LOL.
Yoon-jin cuts through the bull and tells him she’s no idiot. There are different types of guys in the world and that’s fine—he doesn’t have to be a sweet guy who dreams of platonic love, he can be his sex-addicted pervy self. Ha. I love how she can cut him down so swiftly, and she tells him to wash off his dirty body in the rain before he comes in.
Haitai looks at her with indignant eyes that glow green… matching the eyes onscreen of the Drama Du Jour, hit horror series M starring Shim Eun-ha as the possessed heroine with supernatural powers. (M wasn’t that terrifying but there was a definite creepy vibe to it, back in a time when horror television was rare.)
Na-jung is especially jumpy and clings to Chilbongie, practically twisting the shirt right off him. Samcheonpo blusters that he’s not scared at all, just as Na-jung screams and jumps on Chilbongie again… and then we pan over to Samcheonpo clinging desperately to Binggeure, ha.
Yoon-jin and Haitai come home, and the four TV-watchers ditch the show to witness the much more interesting argument. It’s mostly a one-sided thing as Haitai defends his honor: “Did you see me sleep with anybody, huh? What’s wrong about an adult buying condoms?”
Another argument breaks out between Mom and Dad. His first love has become a star, and after being hounded by producers to do a reunion show with her, he filmed it after telling Mom he wouldn’t. Oh, Dad. It’s no wonder Mom’s spitting mad, accusing him of wanting to trade in his wife, which has Dad sputtering defensively.
Garbage calls because he doesn’t have an umbrella for the walk home, and Na-jung happily volunteers to pick him up from the library. Chilbongie tags along and muses at the lovers’ spat between Haitai and Yoon-jin, but Na-jung scoffs that he’s got it all wrong—a girl who likes a guy wouldn’t look at him that way. Which leads him to ask, “Then how would she look at a guy she does like?” It can’t be a good thing that the song scoring the moment is Seo Taiji’s “Sad Pain.”
Cut to: The walk back, with Na-jung’s eyes shining adoringly at Oppa as they share an umbrella. Chilbongie trails behind, and the light slowly dawns in his eyes as he watches the two of them focused entirely on each other. Ouch, my heart.
More M watching with the gang, and this time Na-jung leaps at Oppa in a scary moment, while Chilbongie’s left to watch from the other side. I love the sight gag of panning over slowly to reveal Yoon-jin with her arms wrapped around Haitai’s neck… and then Samcheonpo huddled up to Binggeure again.
The boys tease Yoon-jin for her involuntarily reflex, and she rolls her eyes while Haitai decides that all her bickering earlier was just her way of showing affection. Garbage advises her to choose well because a decision made in one moment might stick with her for life, teasing that her future husband may be in this room.
Everyone cracks up when he suggests it could be Samcheonpo, though the Kim cousins vote that Haitai is more likely. Na-jung sides with Oppa, voting that Samcheonpo has a bigger chance of being Yoon-jin’s match.
All of a sudden, the lights flick off as the whole neighborhood loses power. The gang gets out their lighters and candles, and Samcheonpo nervously sits on the toilet and tells his buddies to knock off the joke ’cause he ain’t scared. Heh.
Chilbongie caaaasually selects a spot next to Na-jung as they settle down listening to a soothing radio show. There’s something about the way he rolls on his side to face her that kills me a little, especially since she hardly even notices. The DJ comments that a night like this is an opportunity, instructing his lovelorn listeners that if their crush is nearby, turn to see their face.
Chilbongie’s already looking at Na-jung, but she turns her face away from his, to look up at Oppa on the other side. Oof.
The DJ instructs his lonelyhearts to indulge their fantasies for a few minutes, imagining that their love is requited over the course of the next song (Lee Seung-hwan’s “Humble Confession”). He encourages everyone to try ending the one-sided love with a confession tomorrow, on the chance that they might find their hopes realized.
Everyone listens to the song peacefully… while in the bathroom, Samcheonpo grows increasingly agitated in the dark. He threatens his friends with harm if they don’t turn on the lights, unable to actually count to three to make good on the threat. (“Two and a half, two and three-quarters, two and seven-eighths….”)
In the morning, Na-jung gets up with purpose and practices making her love confession. She musters up the nerve, but gets waylaid first by Oppa’s sleepiness (“I’ll wait for him to wake up”) and then by breakfast (“I’ll tell him after eating”).
It’s no surprise she doesn’t find a chance to make her move, so next she leaves a voicemail on his pager. She struggles to get out the words, “I like you, Oppa-ya.” And then she deletes the recording—that was just practice. She’s never gonna say it, is she?
Samcheonpo embarks on a long-awaited solo bicycling trip, only to drop his wallet in the yard and have to come back. Yoon-jin finds the wallet and checks the ID, and something about it makes her eyes widen in surprise. When Samcheonpo comes back to demand its return, she orders him to be nice to his noona—he’s two years younger than the rest of them. HA. Best sight gag ever, to make him even younger.
He explains that his birth was registered late (which happens sometimes, making your legal birthday different from the real one), but curiously he refuses to explain more. Ha, but this means that Yoon-jin now treats him like a little boy and forces him to be more polite to her.
Yoon-jin happens upon another secret when she answers the phone and hears that Binggeure’s paperwork is incomplete for his leave from school. And then Yoon-jin walks by as Na-jung kisses a photo of Garbage. It’s all about the secrets today.
Na-jung pleads with Yoon-jin to keep her secret, though Yoon-jin is hardly surprised—she could tell from the way Na-jung looks at Garbage. Aw, Yoon-jin takes charge and orders Na-jung to confess right now while she has the nerve, dialing his number for her. But Na-jung chickens out with more procrastinating, deciding she has to bathe first to clean mind and body before confessing.
Chilbongie calls the house, getting Na-jung on the line and asking for her father. Is he trying to confess too? Na-jung thinks nothing of the call, and then he calls again later, only to get Haitai.
Garbage keeps running into Binggeure around town, first at his job at a convenience store, then at his job in a cafe. He sits him down and gets him to confide about taking a break from school; Binggeure’s been saving up for the day his father finds out and cuts him off. Medical school is his father’s dream for him, but he doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life, or even what he likes or hates. He hangs his head in dismay, calling himself cowardly and pathetic.
Garbage assures him that it’s fine not to know what the wants to be at his age, and listens sympathetically. He asks, “What can I do for you? Say one thing—I’ll do it for you.” Best oppa/hyung ever. Binggeure asks for Garbage to buy him one meal a day, and after teasing with a fake-out, Garbage promises to once a week.
Yoon-jin is expecting a visit from her mother that night, though she insists that Mom doesn’t have to do anything since her mother won’t be staying. But then a call comes in from the bus terminal to tell Yoon-jin that her mother’s waiting alone after her bus got in early. Haitai takes the call and offers to page Yoon-jin, but she’s at the bathhouse with Na-jung and misses it.
Samcheonpo comes back home again, having left his pager behind this time. The day is getting longer and Haitai suggests he postpone till tomorrow, but Samcheonpo is stubbornly determined to keep to his plans, as “I have never broken a promise with myself.” Ha.
He almost makes it off the property this time, but the phone rings in the empty house and sends Samcheonpo scurrying back in forth indecisively, wanting to leave but also feeling pressed to answer the phone. He ends up taking the call from another kind stranger at the terminal, who worries that Yoon-jin’s mother has been waiting for hours, so afraid of missing her daughter that she won’t even eat or go to the restroom.
Samcheonpo leaves Yoon-jin a voicemail chiding her to get to her mother asap, and rushes out to begin his trip again. But he starts and stops a half-dozen more times, wrestling to leave as planned but held back by his conscience.
Yoon-jin finally checks her messages and races for the station in tears. Finally she finds her mother sitting outside… and next to her is Samcheonpo, offering Mom the precious coffee he’d refused to share earlier.
When Yoon-jin’s mother spots her excitedly, it becomes clear that Mom can’t speak—she makes grunting noises as she signs her words at her daughter. Yoon-jin scolds Mom for risking it in the big scary city alone, but Mom assures her that it’s a myth that Seoul people are mean. She’s been helped by so many good people today, and Samcheonpo even bought her kimbap—and described himself as her very best friend. LOL.
Yoon-jin spies a pile of notes, in which Mom had worried that Yoon-jin was too reserved and Samcheonpo had assured her that Yoon-jin has lots of friends and is really cute and bright.
Samcheonpo’s narration: “Sometimes I imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t answered the phone that day, and what would have happened with us if I hadn’t gone to the terminal. Living is all about the choices you make moment by moment. Even if it’s just a log bridge, you must make a choice: Do you go forward? Do you turn around, or do you stop? Where I am now is the result of countless choices made in the past. That day I answered the phone and went to the terminal, and those small choices gathered to make up the present day.”
2002. The wedding. Yoon-jin mans the camera as her husband signs the guest book: Kim Sung-kyun. Ah, it’s the real name of the actor! I’m sure some Haitai fans will be crushed, but how much do I love that Samcheonpo and Yoon-jin ended up married?
Samcheonpo: “Whichever path you choose, there are always lingering thoughts of the road not taken. That’s why there are no choices without regrets, and no one right answer to life. All you can do is believe that the road you’ve chosen is the right answer, and turn it into the right answer. The right answer to life is to believe that you don’t regret your past choices and live on.”
1994. Dad has coffee with his first love, played by comedian Lee Kyung-shil. She flirts openly with Dad, who flatters her right back, and says she regrets her choice years ago when he’d asked her to run away with him.
He’s pretty good at deflecting gracefully, telling her that she’s made so much of herself and is better off this way. When she sighs about envying his wife, Dad grumbles up a storm about Mom’s housekeeping and flatters the ex until she’s giggling over his obvious lip service. She practically swoons to see that Dad ordered a cake to take home, assuming it’s hers—and pouts when he says it’s for the wife. To remind us, for good measure:
Samcheonpo: “Believing in my past choices without regret and loving them—that is the right answer, and that’s how to grow old with style.”
Na-jung cracks open Garbage’s door that night, practicing under her breath, “Oppa, I like you. I love you.” He doesn’t hear her, and Mom’s interruption gives Na-jung another excuse to keep procrastinating.
Chilbongie calls one more time, and Na-jung picks up. He’s already forgotten his earlier excuse of calling Dad, and hems and haws before arriving at the point. But he loses his nerve, instead telling her not to sleep with the fan on. Na-jung tells herself she’ll confess after their snack, and Chilbongie tells himself he’ll confess tomorrow.
Another blackout hits, and the gang pulls out the candles and the liquor. Yoon-jin is the first to get drunk, and asks the resident sex addict if he’s used all his condoms yet. When Haitai gets defensive, she announces that she saw him buying porn the other day. “It’s okay,” she says, “it’s a disease, it’s not your fault.” Pwahaha.
Then she turns to Samcheonpo and outs him as being two years younger than them all, to their shock. Next is Binggeure, whom she nags to get the proper paperwork filled out for his school leave. Haha. And gasp! There’s one more secret she knows.
Garbage tries to usher Yoon-jin to her room since she’s half-asleep, but she starts hitting him and calling him jerk: “Can’t you recognize Na-jung’s feelings?”
Droopy heads perk up as she continues, “Na-jung really, really likes you.”
Na-jung is too drunk to freak out and just starts her drunk-winking, but Garbage’s face grows serious. Chilbongie’s too.
Yoon-jin sits down in front of Samcheonpo and orders him (calling him Sung-kyun) to give “noona” a back massage, telling him that her mother was grateful to him. But as she starts to explain about her mother not being able to speak, Samcheonpo grabs her to cover her mouth before she says more. From the looks on Garbage and Chilbongie’s faces, would that she were quieted a few minutes earlier.
COMMENTS
First, a great big awwwww for the Yoon-jin and Samcheonpo romance. I thought there might be room to go that way in the future, but that was just a distant possibility; I hadn’t expected things to swing this way at all. It’s not only that it was a twist on expectation that I loved it, but because it happens to perfectly illustrate the theme of the day—that your life can change paths with a single, in-the-moment decision.
Not that a single decision decides your life, of course—it’s up to you to build your life upon a foundation of daily choices, but one thing is enough to make an opportunity… or let it slip by. It’s the difference between Samcheonpo and Haitai, though it certainly isn’t arguing that Samcheonpo is the better man for going to the terminal over Haitai. If the situation were flipped and Haitai got the later call, he may have gone to Mom too. But Samcheonpo being the guy at the terminal opened Yoon-jin’s eyes to him, and therefore the door to their potential future courtship. While we already know that they end up happily married in the future, I think it’ll be plenty of fun to watch them racking up more daily choices to direct them in that eventual direction, because at this point in 1994, it’s hardly a done deal.
The storyline also gives a nice counter to the main love triangle, which was an example of missed opportunities. Or maybe it’s deliberately surrendered opportunities, because both Na-jung and Chilbongie let their fear take over and talk them out of confessing.
I’m pretty confused over Garbage’s reactions, which I know is the intended effect because we haven’t been given an insight into his feelings or behavior yet. It’s exciting on one level to dig for hints of his feelings and feel that flutter of excitement when he takes a step in Na-jung’s direction; I feel like we’re watching their relationship through Na-jung’s eyes, and the drama captures perfectly that feeling of harboring both hope and despair that your crush might like you back—the tiniest encouragement can sustain you for days, but a setback can be heart-crushing.
I have full expectation that the drama will give Garbage a good reason for his hot-cold reactions (well, more like serious-not-serious), but I think they have to start peeling back the veil on his emotions soon. The longer they tease, the more they run the risk of pushing too far and aggravating us rather than titillating. Okay, by us I mean me, because while I adore Oppa as a character and a person, he’s really toeing that line for me where I find him frustrating.
Without further explanation I can only think that he’s either afraid of his feelings or misguided about what’s best for Na-jung. If there’s a good reason, I want to be with him and feel that conflict for him, rather than feel irritated that he clearly likes her but keeps pushing her away, which results in a lot of mixed signals.
The contrast is especially stark because we’ve got Chilbongie waiting right on the other side, and he has no problem choosing Na-jung and facing her full-on. He’s not conflicted, he’s not withdrawing, and he’s 100 percent on Na-jung’s side. I understand that it’s easier to put yourself out there when you’ve experienced less pain, so maybe Chilbongie finds it easier to be that way than Oppa… but at this point in the story there’s no indication of that so that’s a lot of scrambling for justification for a reason that may not exist.
I never subscribe to the belief that one person “deserves” love more than another person, because that’s not how love works. Love is a gift, not an entitlement. But right now I’m leaning more on Team Chilbongie, because it’s hard not to love a guy who’s willing to love you wholeheartedly.
I do wonder at the 2013 timeline skewing so heavily in Chilbongie’s favor, though, and it makes me suspicious that a massive reversal is in our future. But the only reason for thinking that is because it has to, it’s too straightforward otherwise. Gahhh, this love triangle is both really good and really, really terrible.

Yoon-jin's deadly when drunk. Everyone was bloody after the bombs she dropped. That girl, hahaha! I'm glad it was all out in the open. Looking forward to what Oppa will do.
And a big aaaw at Samcheonpo. So sweet. I knew Haitai wouldn't get the girl because it was all about him, not Yoon-jin.
Thanks for the recaps!

I know she's vicious kekeke... I couldn't trust a secret with her again after this, she'll spill it all as soon as she has alcohol in her veins... and they seem to be always drinking. I'm glad she gets Samcheopo since he's sweet behind all that gruff exterior and HaiTai while not a bad person tends to be more superficial... I think he still has a long way to grow and learn about caring about others.

i like chil bong ie mainly for his character and i also root for him based personal preferences...
however, NOT TO BURST EVERYONE'S BUBBLE BUT...
the main paring is sung na jung and trash oppa...
1. character billing-wise, jung woo is next after go ara. generally, that's how character billing goes: from lead characters to secondary characters and so on.
2. in the drama posters where all of them are in it, sung na jung and trash oppa are both (1) wearing stripes, in complementary colors even, (2) wearing red shoes, (4) have similar poses with their feet, and (5) are facing each other (body-wise). everyone else have straight poses directly to the camera and have distinct styles, not the couple-look type that na jung and trash oppa have.
3. in drama promotions, jung woo and go ara are mostly in couple-look or have a couple theme, whereas if yoon yeon seok is included, he's almost always the third wheel.
so there. just fyi. this is not really a "we don't know who's the main leads" drama that's why there's a lot of speculations. there are a lot of speculations because both guys are awesome and decent guys and we both want them to be happy. but er, the main leads are crystal clear. for others like me, i think it's just wishful thinking...
i would so dearly want to be proven wrong in the end (because of who i root for, obviously) but it is a highly unlikely scenario. at most, the odds are 1 out of 100 in chil bong ie's favor.

"Looking fwd to what Oppa will do."
Why do I suspect that Oppa is gay. Maybe he'll end up with his hoobae here, or will he be the one to pick up Hoya in the red convertible?
The actor playing Samcheonpo has a commercial on tv. In it he is a middle aged, bespectacled father to a young boy. He totally looks the part. Just don't ask me what the commercial was about. I was so surprised that he is popular enough to get a CF n I was so focused on his face and looks that I forgot to pay attn to the rest!

I don't think Oppa is gay. Personally, I find my gay friends sensitive and they understand girls quite well. If he was gay, he must have read Na-jung's feeling better and there's no way he hurted her (unintentionally) like the way he did.
I have 2 scenarios in mind:
1. Trash knows Na-jung's feeling towards him, but he doesn't know if he likes her or not, thus he doesn't want to jeopardy their "family" relationship.
2. Trash likes Na-jung, too, but he has some obstacles in his mind. (For example, disease/being infertile...) Thus he acts like being oblivious to her feelings.
I'm leaning toward option 2 even though it seems to be too dramatic for this lightheart drama.

Although Oppa is portrayed as a ladies man, I also feel that the writers drop a few hints here and there that suggest that the character might be gay.In fact, the character reminds me a lot of a friend of mine from back in high school: funny, flirtatious, sensitive, affectionate and compassionate. All the girls were crazy about him because he was so caring and understanding. He came out of the closet many years later.

I think he could be too!
I keep getting hints as well , especially cause everyone's overlooked the fact that when the song came on the radio- chilbongie turned to na jung who turned to oppa....but did you notice that he was lying on bingures lap, and bingure was staring at him!
Also seems oppas taken a liking to him since the start, kissed him when he didn't have to, is rubbing his neck in one of the flashbacks and goes out to smoke with him too.

Long-time lurker, here; had to weigh in. I can't call it 100%, but between episodes 7-8, I'm starting to think oppa is gay as well. The subtle hints could be misdirection or an interesting payoff in the end.
Whatever the case may be, when it hits Na Jung that Chilbong LIKES her likes her? If that kid's stuff with oppa gave her indigestion, Chilbong is going to give her the flu!

I agree that Oppa/Trash is gay. There have been several hints since the 2nd episode, with Oppa always touching Binggeure and kissing him as well. I think that he is aware of Na Jung's feelings, but he is confused about his own sexuality.

What...???????? O.o
Oh come on..He can't be gay..!!!!
Plus, don't forget he had a girlfriend..! ;)
I think that the husband will be Oppa since this drama is exactly like ''reply 1997''..the only difference is that in this drama the girl falls for the boy first..! :)

All that touching is reflective of the homosociality in Korean society. Guys touch each other ALL THE TIME, the straighter the dude, the more often. Let's not read Korea by American terms.
As for gay men being more sensitive, some are but not all. They're people too. They can be incredibly superficial and self-absorbed. My two gay-male best friends will attest to this. They love me but it's their show whenever we get together and I their captive audience.

Okay so these writers are brilliant! They totally got me with the Samcheonpo reveal! I 100% thought that it would be HaiTai. I now have total faith in them to carry the main mystery through to the finale. I really kind of wish that they had kept the Yoon Jin mystery going for longer though because it was an awesome bit of meta to have the characters all guessing about her soulmate while we're out here guessing about Na Jung's. I 100% expected both boys to go take care of mom at the train station and keep us in the dark about who she ends up with just because it seems like the thing Haitai would do. I'm happy with this outcome though.
I died a little on the inside when Chilbong turned to look at Najung and Najung turned to look at Garbage. That poor poor kid. Also, in the scene where they leave him behind in the rain. And I just wanted to rip my own heart out and throw it out the window when Yoonjin started spilling everyone's secrets. I was especially embarrassed for Najung but I'm holding out hope that she is too drunk to remember. I'm usually not a fan of leaving the heroine in the dark about vital information that concerns her directly but that's just too humiliating to live with. I myself was always terrified of my crushes getting out so I'm totally second-hand mortified for her.

Also, if this reveal doesn't spur Oppa into action where Najung is concernd, then I wont even feel bad if he ends up losing the girl. Because we all know that Chilbong is not planning on holding back.
Okay... I will fell bad. I'll feel bad for whoever gets left out of this equation.
Also, how awesome was it when Chilbong picks Najung strait away during that "who would you pick" game without even waiting for them to recite the whole scenario. I was so mad that Najung wasn't around to hear it.
I am purposely avoiding picking a side in this battle because it's impossible to choose and it's more fun to just enjoy the ride and cheer for everyone.

I don't know. I don't think he knew. Or if he had a hint, I don't think he realized it was so serious. A girl doesn't follow you and start crying because you didn't pick her in a drinking game unless she likes you a lot, but... he could possibly be that thick.

That's a tough one. Since they have been talking about marrying each other since they were kids.
She said it before she really fell in crush with him, and he made that joke when he kissed the back of her head.
He may have thought he should have said it just to please her, not because he meant it.

I don't think he is thick. He is always 1st in medical school w/o having to study. He is fast on the uptake when prof ask difficult Qns.
He is secure enough in that family to know that they'd love him even more as SIL.
So, me thinks he is gay!
I root for him to end up with Chil Bong's sweet, adorable little cousin.

I didn't mean thick as in stupid, I mean thick as in not picking up on people's (women's) emotions and feelings. They've already shown that he's not as good with women as he thinks he is (remember when his girlfriend dumped him).

Actually, in that episode Na Jung's parents say that Trash Oppa was dumped and that he's bad with the ladies, but when Na Jung listens to Trash Oppa's beeper message, the girlfriend is actually yelling at him for breaking up with her out of nowhere like a jerk.

Oppa definitely knows Na Jung likes her but he can't like her back because he's standing in as an older brother for Na Jung. It would seem weird to have a relationship with someone who you always see as a dongsaeng.

I don't think he was shocked at her liking him, he kind of smile a little at that. I think the shock came at hearing how much pain she was in because he didn't recognize her feelings. I don't think he realized he was hurting her.

I am secondhand mortified for her too because I had a similar experience during grade school when I told a friend I liked a guy and she told him the next day all about it. I don't know if she was being helpful or what....but I certainly was pissed off and then went ahead and completely denied it. Good thing too...cause he totally rejected even with my denial. Yeesh. Thanks, Reply 1994...you really brought out the embarrassing moments of my crushes.

That's why I never even told my friends who I liked (except my middle school BFF. We didn't even like each other much at first but totally bonded when we were doing a school project together and realized we were both in love with the same hottie in our class). Anytime people came close to the truth I would deflect with a joke even if I was reasonably certain that they liked me back (so I kind of understand Oppa). I was so so so afraid of rejection I would never let on unless the guy made the first move. It's truly a miracle that I ended up married.

He, he. This makes me think of my 12 yr old daughter. When she was in 3rd grade she told her bff that she liked a boy in her class. Her bff blurted it out the same day. Of course, a 3rd grade boy would run in fear, and he rejected her and was really mean to her. They are now in seventh grade and she still likes him (why?). They are good friends most of the time, and he defends her viciously when anyone picks on her, but when she smiles at him sometimes he screams at her "You know I don't like you, right?" She just answers "So?" Other times he says he is not going to be her friend if she continues to like him. Her reply? "Whatever, you'll miss me." And he always comes back begging her to be friends again. She has asked me before what should she do if he ever asked her to be his girlfriend. I tell her just to stay friends because they'll have a higher possibility of sticking together through middle school and high school.

*screams* SAMCHEONPO!! SAMCHEONPO!! SAMCHEONPO!!
As anyone can see, I am sooo happy right now that Samcheonpo ended up with Yoon-jin. I always thought he would end up being the loner of the group with no romantic connections, particularly after how Haitai seemed to be sporting a crush on Yoon-jin. But I just loved his bickering with Yoon-jin and how they both were all, "No way! I would never like her/him!" only to end up eventually falling in love. I just can't wait to see that play out onscreen. And y'know, SCP-YJ being the end game gives me hope that Oppa will be the husband because get this. Episode 0 seemed to have been all about giving the impression that there would be two major love lines of NJ-Chilbongie and YJ-Haitai. Yet if YJ ended up with Samcheonpo instead, then that should be reason to believe that Oppa will be the husband, no? Or is it just me grasping at straws since I am so firmly rooted in Team Oppa?

Chilbongie had a wedding ring? That's news to me (I didn't notice it). Besides Chilbongie could be married to someone else too.
Anyways, I'm just saying that if the writer planned to fill audience's heads with NJ-Chilbongie and YJ-Haitai lovelines from the get-go (Episode 0) only to act as opposites of what the endgame is, then there's hope that Oppa might be the husband after all. And like I said, I'm Team Oppa so even if Chilbongie is breaking my heart over and over again with his crushed expressions or super cute smiles of love, I'll still be cheering for Oppa. ;) I luff him too much.

For ex. you give any other male character in the house 5 secs and that is enough to make an impression. If Oppa does not turn out to be gay, I am pretty sure he'll end up as the husband (even though I prefer Chilbong). Why? Because Jung Woo is a much more experienced actor and his role is more complex and his performance more nuanced. I think this indicates an artistic choice by the writer and PD to keep at the center of the story.

However... It is also implied that Chilbong's first love is Najung. So, it could be his first love that doesn't end up successfully. I think the writers know very well how to misdirect the audience, everything can have double meanings and stuff.

On the other hand, oppa in sticky situations, I feel, has a poker face so it's very difficult to read him. The 2013 skewing towards Chilbong is what worries me most T.T I've been cheering on Team Chilbong (LOL oh the teams we've formed) since the beginning but there are just so /many/ hints for him in 2013 that I feel like it's impossible he's the husband? Although maybe because we're all so paranoid, the writers will surprise us by making it the obvious? Ahhhhh I don't know. But his glances at Najung and his eyes when he realizes her love for Oppa-ya...ahhhhh, my heart. I honestly might be heartbroken if he isn't hubby, even though both guys seem to be good potential hubbies (if Trash-oppa shapes up soon, at least!)
Yoon-jin's an even deadlier drunk than Najung! LOL. Everyone used to be worried about the biter but no, no Yoon-jin is much, much worse.
We're only less than halfway through, so I feel like this indirect confession is somehow going to be concealed or ignored? It'd be way too easy if everything was out and discussed about now so...

Realistically, if Oppan and Najung is the end game, they don't need to wait 8 years to get married. It's to try to prevent the inevitable pain we're all convinced will happen. Those on Team Oppa keep saying all signs point to Chilbong. Those on Team Chilbong say all signs mean that it's a trick and it's Oppa. IT'S TO DISGUISE THE PAIN WE FEEL OVER THE HEARTBREAK WE KNOW WILL COME.
That said, it is pleasant to finally have both male leads be honestly nice guys - even if Oppa is being a bit dense right now - that would likely make wonderful hubbies, for once. Even if half of us will be heartbroken slightly for the guy, Na-jung, regardless, is making the right choice for herself (...versus, y'know, a stalkerish, creepy lead over the sweet second lead that so often happens instead...)

I don't see how it should be anything but a crush at this point. You can't expect him to love her, yet, especially compared to oppa who's been with her 24/7 since the beginning. But Chilbongi's getting there, he's slowly starting to know Najung for who she is, finding out the things she like and doesn't and tries to impress her all the time. The guy's trying hard and as time passes, he might end up loving Najung more than oppa in the end. It's how most love starts.

Amen.
:D If that ain't love them what is?
And it is love, it's very easy to fall in love with someone who makes you laugh. And for Chilbongie it's not love at first sight.
First it was, "OMG this girl swears up a storm it's hilarious," "Aww I loves satoori!" "To Na Jung, Najung, definitely Na Jung!"
It took him all of three episodes :D

My feelings are all over the place!
I LOVE the Samcheonpo+Yoon Jin pair though my heart breaks a little for Haitai :( I actually didn't think that they would reveal this so soon but I am all in for watching them falling for each other.
As for the other love triangle... I am more Team Chilbongie for now but we'll have to see how it develops! Oppa is still in my heart :)
I would love to see a bit more from Binggeure because he is still the biggest mystery of them all to me!

I have to admit I was disappointed with the reveal of Yoon Jin's husband. I found it too early. I wouldn't mind if they kept it as a mystery for a couple of more episodes and give both boys more time and interaction with YJ. This just felt a bit rushed... at least for me.
Loved that Samcheonpo's naration about choices we make... and how we should turn our choices the right ones.
And my heart broke for Chilbong's one-sided love...

no, it is because the war ships were getting huge and people were getting anxious, image your ship not coming true, they get pretty angry, so at least one couple have to be out already to make people less anxious.

war ships for both trash and chilbongie are both huge too, so im glad the writer outed who the husband was early on so she wouldn't get double the backlash.
I also would have liked to see the love triangle pan out for yoonjin/samcheonpo/haitai because that's another guessing game, but i realized one is enough for me. My heart can only take so much. Better to nip it in the bud.

Indeed, one love triangle is more than enough!
And I don't mind the early reveal, I was surprised but it didn't take away my interest. Both characters YJ and SCP are a bit quirky and nowhere near a relationship yet, so I'm actually quite curious how they will manage that. I think it will give us some funny and cute moments in this drama. :-)

Samcheonpo and Yoon-jin are adorable. I am excited to see their relationship unfold. I love the humor they do with his age. It's funny without being obvious.
Oof. Chilbongie ;( I hope that Na-jung reciprocates his feeling, even if for a short time, in the future. I agree that it's getting a bit frustrating with Garbage. The longer he holds back, the more my scale tips towards Chilbong. He needs to fess up or reject her, and only that way can this triangle move to the next level. We're almost halfway done, so I'd like a little progress, please :)

Both chemistry to me is vastly different. But with each guy, it's definitely there.
With trash there's a deep sense of closeness and familiarity.
With chilbongie it's new, fresh, cute, and adorable. Although trash is na jung's first love, i get more of a sense that chilbongie is the start of a new kind of love.

She has chemistry with both guys.....it's just different.
When NaJung saw oppa without his shirt, she was interested & embarassed. I still can't tell oppa's motivation for getting nekkid at that moment....if it was to confirm or reaffirm her interest or what....
When NaJung saw ChilBong without his shirt on....she was DEFINTELY surprised & attracted (as evidenced by her slack-jawed reaction) When she saw him play ball she was also interested/intrigued.
Chilbong is aware of her crush on oppa & he isn't running away from wooing her.

But still, I don't feel "it" between him and Na Jeong, so far he's a perfect example of a guy girls like to put in a friendzone. No sizzling between them. I'm team Oppa all the way. They have this world where only they exists and they're perfectly happy there, I get the same vibe from her parents.
What I see as infatuation that will settle into platonic friendship others see as OTP, CB and NJ 4ever and they're not wrong any more than I'm right.
Chemistry is subjective and in the eye of the beholder.

This love triangle is equally infuriating as it is entertaining. I love the conflict between the three, but I hate not knowing. I'm the kind of person who makes sure my OTP ends up together before watching - or if I'm watching live, I usually pick up dramas where a happy ending (in my books) is assured.
This is one where I'm confused beyond words. I really can't tell who ends up with her. Although I would be so upset if its not CB. I love love love him because a confident guy wins over one who's conflicted and/or in denial any day. I like Oppa's character, but I hate the back and forth with him. Whatever his reasons, I hope its revealed soon or I'll just feel a lot of annoyance towards him. I don't want that!
I remember when this drama started, mostly everyone was on Oppa's ship. I can see that changing a little now; and that makes me super happy. I don't like being alone lol.

Same here! I also like watching shows knowing my OTP is the one that's going to end up together but this conflict is just too entertaining to pass up. Even if I'm all for Oppa, I love watching Chilbongie too and sometimes even hope for him to be the husband.
Right now, I feel like Oppa is going to reject for whatever reasons and Chilbongie will swoop in and be the boyfriend for a while. NJ will probably try to get over her crush but she'll still always love Oppa internally and eventually, Oppa, after battling his internal conflicts/woes, will later confess his love for NJ. NJ and Chilbongie will coolly break off after deciding that they can't make it work and Oppa will get together with NJ.
Anyways, that's my speculation; the show is a bit unpredictable so there can be all sorts of things happening. I will just be pleasantly surprised if things turn out as I predicted.

You know... I'm actually thinking of a reversal. What if Oppa and NJ will be in a complicated relationship first and then realize that they're really not meant for each other?
Many people are saying that Oppa and NJ will end up together because they are familiar with each other, they know each other since they were, etc. You know I kinda disagree with that. What if those are the exact reasons why they can't end up together? It's going to be a very high-risk relationship.
Using Chilbong as the Rebound Guy is just treading on the boring second lead syndrome. I find that this drama will go on a more realistic front and I dare say that NJ WILL fall in love with Chilbong. :)
First loves don't always end up together.

My excitement for SCP-YJ pairing was eclipsed by Chilbongie's heartbreak on learning of NJ's love for oppa! My heart broke for him. T_T Last week, I was trying to convince myself that I'll be okay with either of the guys ending up w/ NJ but ohh mannn, that look on his face just hit me in the gut. It'll be interesting as to how he moves forward w/ pursuing NJ now.
As for oppa: despite being madly in love w/ CB I've w/o reservations loved oppa for being the awesome guy that he is. I was mighty irked that he, for the SECOND time, made a joke of her love confession. Like, ughhhhh... Am totally not liking that he is cock blocking all the other guys... if he's not ready to come to terms w/ his feelings for NJ then just step aside. The way he, oh-so-casually draped his arms over her shoulder, with CB right behind them made me super annoyed. The dilemma with actually having two good leads... all I can say is that the writers better either skew it in someone's favor soon, or else give the loser of the Na jung sweepstakes a hell of a consolation prize, or large numbers of viewers are going to be incredibly disappointed.
I thought Trash had a solid early lead given his history and close relationship, but the more he prevaricates as chilbong is earnest and open, the less his long relationship remains an advantage.
I'm really interested to see the writers play this one out- Yoon yoon jae in 1997 had the clear lead the entire way through- loved her first, loved her more, never really stopped even when he ignored her- so he was easy to root for. This one is much more excruciating. The last scene of 8, when C

It's not because of the familiarity between NJ and Oppa. Chilbong's feelings for Najung is very clear, that's why it's easier for him to confess. While Oppa's situation is more complicated, that's why it'd be a big risk to confess.

haha. its just funny how do hee (yoon jin), who is obviously the maknae (being a 1994er) is supposed to be noona to kim sung kyun(samcheonpo) who is a 1980-er.
Im sure the cast are getting a hoot outta this.
Loved the message of today's episode. Even if some scenes are particularly stretched out, each scene builds up to the message she is trying to portray. From Haitai who picked up the first call, to samcheonpo who decided to go the terminal, to dad who met his first love. Have faith that the decisions you made in life are the right choices.
I hope that we're given something insightful every episode.
I think for the first few episodes trash had the edge, but as we go along, more people are hopping on board the chilbongie ship since he's been given some really great moments. Not only that, but trash has been rather disappointing in terms of dealing with na jung's crush. I feel that they have to hold back in term of Trash POV and feeling (which somewhat makes it frustrating) but don't forget this is 20 episode and where only 8 episode in ... and given Na Jung and Trash history ... there is are a lot to explore in their dynamic eespecially for them especially Trash who we haven't even unviel that layer of his since IMO there will be a lot of depth to him ..
Honestly I like the feeling comparison of Na Jung and Trash .. Na Jung went head on with her feeling without reserve noe think about the risk of what they could lose while Trash holds back because so much is at risk between them ... the same risk Shiwon feels when Yoonjae confess ...
So at this point ... I'll just go for the ride and see the layer of Trash being peel one by one ... and I'll jist accept if he doesn't get the girl in that when that feeling of love don't happen at the same time there is that chance it may never happen at all

Notice how Trash Oppa has 2 reactions after YJ spilled najung's secret?
First (after YJ said that NJ liked him), he actually smiled and probably just thought "ah of course najung likes me, she's my dongsaeng, and dongsaengs like their oppas, right."
But after YJ mentioned that NJ did things like kissing his photo, he did a completely different look.
http://i.cubeupload.com/5FiqV9.png
I can't even predict what's going on in his head with that face. And at that moment, my heart felt like it's about to explode. Chilbongie's sad face didn't even manage to flinch my heart (I'm not even Trash-NJ biased. I ship both of them equally)
It's amazing what Jungwoo can express by only using his facial features, ESPECIALLY HIS EYES. Reminds me of another great actor, Jo Jung Suk.

I love Jung Woo's expressions too. It's always a delight watching him act through expressions. Like when he was trying to get the mayo out....instead of being stony faced and putting strength in his arms, he contorted his entire face to express the strength he was putting in...and the camera was focused only on his face instead of his wildly moving arms.
Definitely, he and Jo Jung Seok do really well emoting things. I'm glad to have discovered such great actors.
Speaking of actors...I looked up the guy playing Chilbongie and omg, I can't believe he was the same rude sleazy punk from Werewolf Boy. That surprised me...I guess I was expecting Chilbongie like characters on his resume, lol.

Reading this recap made me realize how predictable an Oppa/Na Jeong ending would be, at least for me. Because if that's where we're heading, then Na Jeong and Chilbong will HAVE to date while Oppa tries to sort out his feelings. I for one, really wish they wouldn't go there. It's too convenient and tiring of a plot device reminiscent of I Need Romance 2013. But it makes narrative sense and is necessary for pushing the Oppa/Na-Jeong endgame. But I would hate for Chilbong, who is as equal of a contender as Oppa is, to be merely reduced to a catalyst to jumpstart the Oppa/Na-Jeong storyline.
And that is why the Chilbong/Na-Jeong endgame appeals to me more because it'd be much more of a challenge for the writer to take on, given that Oppa has the upper hand of being on the receiving end of Na Jeong's feelings. Yes, I realize he is also in a difficult position because of their living situation and possibly betraying the trust of her parents. The theory that he might have had something to do with Na Jeong's brother's death is interesting but veers off a little into makjang territory for a slice-of-life kind of show. And there's still some layer of mystery that surrounds him as well that needs uncovering like his somewhat aloof relationship with his own family. But other than that, once Trash can get past those obstacles, Chilbong's shutouts stand no chance against the power of Trash as Na Jeong's first love. And I can accept that. Like Joon Hee says in 1997, liking someone is not a matter of choice, it's something the heart makes you do. So as much as Na Jeong might want to return Chilbong's feelings, her heart will want what it wants and if it's Trash in the end then I'm not going to fault her for that.
But darnit, I just want the writer to throw all the rules and conventions out the window and surprise me with a Chilbong endgame. Because I honestly think it's the harder outcome to pull off. And maybe if I'm reading things right, the whole SamCheonPo/Yoon-Jin/Hai-Tai triangle resolution was also a way of showing that future is not set in stone and feelings really CAN change, as much as we might want to cling onto the. Because like SamCheonPo making a decision that marked a turning point in his and Yoon Jin's relationship, I also think Chilbong has the chance to turn things around as well if he plays his cards right as long as he's not deterred by Na Jeong's feelings for Oppa because they might be strong, but they're not unshakable.
And how adorable was Chilbong calling the house so many times trying to confess to Na Jeong and maybe hear her voice? Haha, javabeans, I love that you're on Team Chilbong because it gives me hope! :P

" And there’s still some layer of mystery that surrounds him as well that needs uncovering like his somewhat aloof relationship with his own family. "
seeing how much compassion this guy has for the other characters, (e.g. taking care of binggurae, yoonjin etc) I find it weird how he acts with his family. it's like... he thinks najung's family is even more important. maybe trash has dark past? :'(

THIS!!! You took the words right out of my mouth!!! I had a similar reaction to both seasons of I Need Romance! I was like, "you used the first love plot device in the first season, why do you need to do it again???" I felt sorry for the second lead in the second season coz he was a very decent guy. >.<

I'm with you on the swinging of feelings, but more towards Team Oppa. IMHO, the show is took different routes with both male leads. Right off the bat, Oppa gets the awesome vibe (admit it; eps 1-4 was all about Oppa) then slowly knocking him down a few pegs, while Chilbongie is introduced at the bottom of the ladder and then meteorically rising to the occasion (eps 5-7 were hands down Chilbongie's). All leading them here, almost occupying the same spot in that ladder. Because really, how do you choose between the guy who's generally awesome and the guy who has the "moments"?
At least both their abs were treated with equal respect.
My only question, Show, is that how long are we gonna straddle this fence?

it's official, i'm totally in love with this show. been a while since a drama got me to relieve the romance of my first love. i feel like it's not only me that somehow felt the emotions of this episode to be relatable.
this trash-najeong-chilbong love triangle can't get any better!
i always root for the character with the "One-Sided Love" and damn this episode just sent my third-party-loving-heart on overdrive! the look on chilbong's eyes seriously killed me. from that scene in the rain up to yoon jin's drunken secret spillage spree. he's looking at his first love looking at her first love. can't get anymore painful than that!
but heyyy, father and his first love did not end up with each other. will it happen to najeong too?
ugh and oppa is playing with us too. it's very tricky to read out his real emotions towards najeong. i guess it's right to say that we all feel like he already knew for a long time what najeong feels. but why is it that he always ends up his pseudo-confessions with a joke or a playful cheek squishes. is it just purely platonic for him? what's keeping him back? his dead brother? his "family" brother status?
make up your mind bro! hopefully we'll have an episode that focuses on trash's pov.
and can i leave out yoon jin and samcheonpo!? their story was so endearing. it could've been haitai but wooooowww it's amazing that one little choice by sampcheonpo to go to the terminal changed everything. can't wait as to how they developed into a couple.
can friday get here soon!

I would just like to point out that in Reply 1997, the 2013 scenes were heavily leaning towards Yoon Jae too, with the back massaging and Yoon Jae adjusting Shi Won's shirt. So in Freudian terms, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" and that could be the case here too.
(I hope.)

What a great and powerful episode!
Thanks for the recap.
Using the baseball analogy, here's my take:
Chilbongie stands proud and tall on the pitcher’s mound. Confident in his skills. He winds up and delivers a perfect, powerful, fast and accurate strike. Na jung holds the mitt in front of her, waiting with a grin to catch it.
Suddenly, Oppa appears at the plate and effortlessly swings – blasting the ball up and over Chilbongie’s head who follows its trajectory in shock. Out of nowhere, with impossible effort and very little grace, Najung races in the air across the field managing to arrive in the stands before the ball. She grabs it easily, holds it high and cries with delight, “Oppa-ya!”
Chilbongie’s heart drops with his head. Another block from Oppa and another set-back for Chilbongie.
But, it IS only the, let's say, 2nd inning. CB's grit and dedication are not to be underestimated if you look at his sucess in an extremely physically and emotionally taxing sport. Plus, based on his sad home life, CB is much more motivated to actively pursue NJ than his rival. Oppa has her love, no matter if it is romantic or not, he is part of her life forever.
I can't wait to see what CB is prepared to do. I cannot will not count him out...and I voted for Oppa!!
Who do you think should win?

I'm voting for Oppa too. I can't help it. I fell in love and boarded the Oppa-Najung ship before Chilbongie got his groove on. Not that he's unlovable. In fact, Chilbongie makes it superbly difficult for me not to jump ship. But once i get on a ship, i never leave it....even when it sinks.
So here's praying for Oppa to be the end game.
And Chilbongie, when this is over...you wanna date? Teehee....

These past few episodes has been toying with me so bad.
I thought I'd be like "OPPAYAAAAAAAAA!" and vote for Oppa in a heartbeat but instead I'm expressing my dissatisfaction to you right now.
It's bad enough that we have to watch only one of them get the girl, now you want US to choose? You bad, bad person. *sobs*
I'll just open up a different browser to vote for them both, Problem solved.

I'm not sure if I'm overthinking it - but now that Bingguerre's essentially having a date with Oppa every week, we might get a requited gay love line. Which tears me apart because I'm still ninety percent Team Oppa; but a happy ending for Binggeurre would be lovely.

I don't really understand why everyone thinks Binggeurae is gay though. Yeah, sure, he had a surprised/shocked/amused expression when oppa/hyung kissed him right on the lips but who wouldn't? His mind could just be blown right there and then because DaeSunBae!kissed me?!
He seems to REALLY respect Trash and tends to follow him around like a cute little puppy. He still calls Oppa 'sunbaenim' even after world's-best-non-biological-hyung tells junto call him the more familiar hyung.
So I don't see Binggeurae as a guy-loving gay at this point of time. More like Trash's hyung-worshipping puppy.

I am starting to think that they used his hero-worship looks combined with our memory of 1997 to trick us again which would be awesome since we are so proud of ourselves and our very inaccurate guesses!

Well I think he's obviously attracted to him (shirtless scene in the changing room when he looks him up and down), his reaction to the kiss to me was a mixture of surprise and... something more than that, definitely. He was completely stunned and forgot to let go of his chopsticks lol. Bless. I think the writers are definitely hinting at something. Especially his conversation with Trash when he's like I don't even know what I like/dislike or what my preferences are, I took that as him feeling lost at what to do with his life but also unconsciously questioning his sexuality. If that makes sense?

After this episode, I'm really hoping for a Bingguerre-Trash pairing at the end. It would be a happy ending for Trash-Oppa, too! and it would allow Na Jung and Oppa to keep their happy brother-sister relationship.
On the one hand, it seems unlikely, because Trash=Oppa seems like someone who would have come to terms with his sexual orientation by now. On the other hand, it would be sort of cute if Binguerre was the one who figured it out first, and helped Oppa realize it.

You are not over thinking, because I am also 90% Team Oppa but I can't get pass Trash's "dates" with Bingguere as well. It started with episode 2 and if you look at the future episodes, Oppa is always touching and hanging around Bingguere.

I am loving being part of the writers world to be honest. Yes, I have said I am on Chilbong's side, but just the way the writer is showing us these characters emotions and ideas is very captivating. Of course the actors contribute to this as well which is why we feel Yoon Yeon Suk's heartbreak at the confession or Oppa's indecision.
I cannot wait until next week and totally loved the subject for this episode. I love the narrations the most I believe.
As always I enjoy the review. Until next week:)

After watching obsessively from the first episode to the recent one (up tenth times) , Ive come up to the conclusion that whoever Na-Jung ends up with, the writers have suceeded in , not only having two war/wor-shippers full of fan-domness Oppa vs CB, it has reeled our minds that ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. With Reply 1997 , though it tugged and fluttered my heart , this Reply 1994 is entirely different.
Im on warship Oppa still, I guess because as a viewer like any of us in here, the guy we choose kinda reflects of what kind of man we would like to be with or reflects our past experiences in life.
I love Oppa for so many reasons. His depth, maturity (hidden by his childish jokes and sometimes frustrating denseness-intentional or not) and his perceptiveness with all the people around him. But Chilbongee gets high marks for his honesty. CB is the kind that might be cute but I can see that competetive streak , whether it is his love for baseball or love for Na-Jung. He is watching but Im pretty sure he is gonna roar his heart out. While, Oppa is a ticking bomb. That Im sure the writers will make it a point and say "Gotcha!!". Lol
I thought though....that Oppa had known, since the day Na-Jung confessed. But Oppa is complex and not much is being revealed yet. Maybe thats the idea. The plot. The storyline. Cb and Oppa are both ideal candidates.
But Im pretty sure.... Before Na-Jung realizes who she wants to be with.... There is gonna be a lot of tears and heartbreak.

That is what I've been feeling about oppa's story line. There are so much about him that is yet to be revealed. We already know about NJ and CB 1st loves, but we are still in the dark about oppa's general back story. What motivates him to be NJ oppa after her real oppa's death. Who is his first love? Dare we say that NJ is actually his 1st love as well? That instead of NJ falling in love with oppa first, it was actually oppa has been having the same feeling a lot longer than when NJ realized her own? So many things needed to be revealed and I can't wait for oppa's story to get fully flesh out.

JB/GF -
I checked the 1994 airing dates of Feelings/Neukkim.
It started July 20, 1994 and ended Sept 8, 1994.
Considering we have already heard the theme song and have heard Kim Min Jong sing on more than one song, what are the odds he does a cameo? Woo Hee Jin? LEE JUNG JAE! Now that would be a score.
I see the similarity to the love story from Reply and Feelings: ONE girl and several boys/brothers to choose from...Feelings ending doesn't help figure this one out though, dammit.

I was definitely crushed at the reveal of Yoon Jin's husband. I like Samcheonpo and I do think they'll be cute together, and I know I'll get over it quickly. But yeah, for the moment, it was not what I was expecting and I love Haitai and I am crushed. Unlike javabeans, I hate surprises.

Til someone acknowledge and confessess their feelings, then what we have here is a scalene love triangle w/ no equal sides & no equals angle.
Aigoo, Oppa yah, Chilbongie Najeonga, just do it & get it over w/already! Haha. I kid.
While awkwardness, implosion & conflicting desires await our fave three musketeers, I am now intruiged as to what's in store for Hatai. Who will be his object of obsession?
