Answer Me 1994: Episode 12
by girlfriday
It’s a lovely episode with honest feelings, heart-wringing twists, and reunions with past loves, old friends, and family. And maybe, just maybe, it also marks the tentative, hopeful start of something new.
Soooo, tvN has announced that it will be extending the series by one episode. It’s airing off-schedule now because of last week’s preemption, though it’s not like it actually took away an episode. But now the series will have 21 episodes so it can end on a Saturday, which isn’t a surprise given its ratings. Sigh. This had better not mess things up for the final stretch. *shakes fist menacingly*

EPISODE 12: “The miracle that will happen to us”
It’s June 1995, which means Mom and Dad’s baby Sook-sookie is already born. Haitai babysits by dancing to Roo’Ra’s “Angel Without Wings” with Baby in his arms. Mom chats away on the phone with a hometown friend about coming up from Masan for her son’s wedding. She calls him Jae-seok, which makes me think it’s one of Garbage’s hyungs.
On Binggeure’s turn to rock the baby it’s Park Jin-young’s “Don’t Leave Me” as lullaby, and Mom has another conversation about how the youngest of the brothers who lived with them for some time is the sweetest, and how she worries about him living with his hyung Jae-hyung. Okay, definitely Garbage.
And then it’s Sung Jin-woo’s “Don’t Give Up” as Chilbongie serenades Baby, complete with rattle-as-microphone. This time Mom’s friend asks about Na-jung and if she has a boyfriend, and Mom sighs that she hasn’t even had a hint of a prospect.
She wonders at the poor sap who will marry her and have to deal with her terrible temperament, with Chilbongie sitting right there. Ha. And not to be left out, Samcheonpo takes a turn and raps Kim Gun-mo’s “Wrongful Meeting” at Baby. That is decidedly the worst lullaby choice ever.
Dad goes to the hospital and clucks in disapproval when he sees how worn out Garbage looks. It still breaks my heart that he doesn’t live at the house anymore. Dad’s here to visit a childhood friend who’s been diagnosed with a brain tumor, and Garbage leads him down the hall, promising to look into the case.
Dad braces himself before entering the room and does his best to greet his friend with a smile on his face.
At home Mom tells Na-jung to hurry up because they have to go, and gasps in horror to see her come out in sweats. Mom says she can’t go over there to see the oppas looking that way, but Na-jung grumps that it’s nothing they haven’t seen before. For a second I thought they were going to the wedding like this, but it’s still the day before.
Rewind to ten minutes ago, when Na-jung was sitting in her room in a pretty pink dress. She even got the makeup out and started to get all dolled up to see Oppa… but then went totally overboard and ended up looking like a clown, which only depressed her more. So she washed it all off and came out in sweats. I so feel that pain.
She gets sent to drop off a suit for Garbage to wear to his brother’s wedding tomorrow, and she hesitates at Oppa’s door, deciding to at least powder her nose before ringing the bell. His hyung Jae-hyung answers (ha, he’s played by Jo Jae-yoon, a great character actor who’s in every drama ever).
As expected the place is a pigsty, and Middle Hyung is hilariously tacky. He’s shocked at how much Na-jung has grown up, and jokes that he ought to marry her. Dude, get in line.
He does seem genuinely worried when he talks about his little brother though, because he’s working himself to the bone lately especially with his new internship at a Gangnam hospital, which makes the commute harder on him.
Garbage comes home in such a sleepy stupor that he doesn’t even open his eyes and lies down on the couch and peels his shirt off to sleep, not even noticing Na-jung sitting in the living room. It’s only when hyung calls out to her to leave with him that Garbage cracks one eye open and sees her.
Still, when he gets up to give her a ride home, she’s back to adorable smiles. She says he didn’t have to drive her but he pinches her cheek, calling her his little monkey, and says it’d be dangerous: “It’s dark out and someone might mistake you for pretty and take you.” Hahahahaha. Gah, you are SUCH an oppa.
She snaps at him to stop touching her and pinching her cheeks, and he counters that it’s just his way of showing affection: “It’s because I like you.” She only hears it as, I like you like a sister, and gripes that she’s a woman too.
She asks if that’s how he was with all his past girlfriends, naming each with such accurate details that Oppa is surprised, realizing there’s nothing about him she doesn’t know.
He says again that it’s really because he likes her (Granted he’s not saying any of this in love-confession tone. It’s all just passing conversation.) and then goes with, “Are you on your period?” Oh noes.
That’s really not what she meant by “I’m a woman,” but then he goes off on this medical tangent about the symptoms of PMS, and aaaack, somebody stop him. She finally claps a hand over his mouth and orders him to drop her off at the next corner.
Yoon-jin and Samcheonpo wait in line to see Seo Taiji, and he complains about how much money she spends on all the useless things Seo Taiji has CF contracts to endorse, like the shirts they’re always wearing or the popsicle she’s eating now.
She finds it endearing that he’s jealous of Seo Taiji, and snuggles up to him, making him melt instantly. She asks if they can’t come back for tomorrow’s concert since today is just a rehearsal, but he pouts that she promised to go to see his concert of choice if he went to ten of hers. That’s cute.
He has tickets for tomorrow and insists they have to go despite her sour face at his ajusshi music tastes. But as soon as he drops the suggestion that he could go with her to next week’s Seo Taiji concert, she’s all aboard the ajusshi train.
Back in the car, Garbage is belting out a song by Green Zone that Yoon-jin just dissed as old-mannish (it’s “I’m Going to Love You,” posted above, which is a song all about how he’s going to love her quietly from afar in his own way even though she’ll never know… aaaand now I’m back to swooning at Oppa).
He asks for a tissue because he’s sick with a cold, and Na-jung only now notices how filthy the car is. She reaches over to peel the bit of tissue he left stuck to his lip and feel his forehead, and this time it’s Garbage who reels from Na-jung’s touch.
Na-jung gets all aegyorific with the “oppaaaaaaa, oppa-ya,” before asking if he’ll go to a musical with her. He has a study group session that night, but also complains that he doesn’t care for musicals because he doesn’t get why they have to sing everything.
Garbage: “I like you. I don’t like you. Why can’t they just say it?” You did NOT just say that. It’s what I’ve been screaming at you for seven weeks!
She sighs and tells him to pull over for some ddukboki. He sits down and asks permission to order soondae, and does this ridiculously cute fist-spazz in glee when she allows it.
She asks about his eldest hyung’s bride-to-be and asks what he likes about her, like her personality or her background. Oppa sighs that she knows nothing about men, and says the only thing they care about is a hot bod. It’s like you have a burning desire to be thwacked in the head.
They apparently have a rule about him never dipping his soondae in her ddukboki sauce, which of course he breaks the second she averts her gaze. They spend the rest of the meal with her back turned, and him making raptor-faces at her behind her back. It’s strange and adorable.
He walks her home and declines to go inside knowing he’ll end up drinking all night if the other kids see him around. He heard that Haitai has a new girlfriend, and she says he met her on a group blind date and already kissed her.
He tells her to go inside, and Na-jung just stands there silently with her arms outstretched until he laughs and hugs her. Awwwwww.
At home, the rest of the group is busy hearing about Haitai’s latest girl, his second new girlfriend in two weeks. He’s getting ready to go on an overnight trip with her, and everyone asks which of the girls had better legs or was a better kisser.
Na-jung joins them mid-conversation and she starts naming all his past girls as he tells them what he liked about each of them.
But then she asks about his hometown girlfriend, and suddenly Haitai grows quiet. Yoon-jin asks why he’s not talking, and Samcheonpo nudges her not to bring up that ex.
In voiceover, Na-jung says: “I learned it then—to a man there is always that one woman that should never be touched—her name is First Love.”
Garbage gets back home and hyung mentions that his first love Joo-kyung will be at the wedding tomorrow, since she’s the bride’s best friend. Garbage gets quiet for a moment at the mention of her (and how much she broke his heart and made him cry), but assures him that he’s totally over it and could probably have coffee with her and be fine with it.
He says he likes someone new now, and plans to confess properly once his internship is over. I still don’t know why you even waited this long, but speed is obviously not your strong suit.
Hyung gets super excited about the new crush, especially when Garbage says she’s really pretty (though he calls her personality terrible, ha). He says she’ll be at the wedding tomorrow, so he can try and guess who it is there. Can I just say, you giggling like an idiot when you talk about her is such a nice change of pace from the foggy non-answers.
Chilbongie pops into Na-jung’s room to confirm their plans for tomorrow night. She helped him with some homework so she requires a meal at the fancy new Gangnam mall and a tape as payment, which of course is a win-win for Chilbongie who gets a date out of it. She has the wedding and he has baseball practice, so they agree to meet at the mall tomorrow, and then he helps cover her face in cucumber slices and piles them on till she’s buried. So cute.
Dad visits with his buddy in the hospital and they laugh about the old days. When his friend waxes nostalgic about their favorite rice cakes from home, Dad promises to pick him up a piece on his next away game. But by the next day, Garbage looks in on the same ajusshi who was talking up a storm and laughing just last night, and he’s lying in his bed without moving a muscle.
Garbage is especially friendly with a family who shares the same room, and is happy to find out that the mom who’s sick is well enough to check out tomorrow. The husband notes that they have the same watch and Garbage says it was a wedding gift from his brother.
He gets so distracted that he has to be paged to get his ass to the wedding, and runs in late to join his family in the greeting line. His dad scowls in disapproval while his mom dotes.
What… on earth is Middle Hyung wearing? He’s got a three-piece suit on with no shirt inside, and declares proudly that it’s what (R&B group) SOLID does. Pfffft.
The parents light up when they see Na-jung’s family arrive, and the adults greet each other happily. The oppas’ parents coo when they see how pretty Na-jung is, and joke that she ought to marry into their family. Middle Hyung volunteers for the job, and Dad asks if he wants to die. Ha.
They suggest their maknae, but Mom and Dad scoff at the idea that those two could go two seconds without tearing each other’s hair out. The whole time Garbage and Na-jung keep stealing glances at each other in turn, and Garbage doesn’t even try to hide the shit-eating grin on his face whenever he looks at her.
After the ceremony, Garbage sits down in the banquet hall with a table of his old friends, and they ask if First Hyung bought him anything as a gift since he introduced the newlyweds. He shows off the new watch.
The girl at the table muses at how odd it is that this is the couple that ended up married when she always thought Garbage would marry Joo-kyung. The guys get all awkward at the mention of Garbage’s first love, and chide her for bringing it up.
Na-jung sits down next to him and when Middle Hyung gives her what he thinks is the best thing on his plate, she scowls. Garbage immediately takes it off and tells hyung she’s picky about her food, and gives her the things from his own plate that she likes.
Of course then he follows up the sweet moment by ordering her to go get another plate of what he likes, heh.
While she grabs another plate at the buffet, the dreaded ex shows up. Na-jung watches tensely as she walks over to the table and sits down next to Oppa. Noooo.
Na-jung plops down at the next table over with the housemates, and tells them that she’s Oppa’s First Love. Yoon-jin calls her pretty, and Samcheonpo says there’s no such thing as a first love who isn’t pretty, which gets him strangled. Haitai looks over at Na-jung with concern.
Binggeure suddenly runs out after getting paged, and then Garbage gets paged from work soon after and gets up to go. The dreaded ex gets up to return to the office as well, and when the friends point out they’re headed in the same direction, Garbage agrees to give her a ride. The horrible part is that Na-jung has to watch them leave together.
He doesn’t even seem that interested in First Love (or he’s possibly still angry), and when she gets in the car and asks if he wants to have coffee, he says he’s busy and offers to drop her at a subway stop. Phew, that’s the last we’re seeing of her, right?
The housemates leave the wedding and Yoon-jin and Samcheonpo head off to their concert, and Haitai frowns to hear that even Na-jung has plans and everyone is ditching him. She rushes toward Gangnam, worried that traffic might make her late to meet Chilbongie.
At the hospital, Garbage gets a page from Binggeure that sends him running. Apparently his mother collapsed, which was why he ran out of the wedding. Garbage runs to the emergency room and finds Binggeure there with his little brother Dong-woo, both sick with worry and not knowing what to do.
Garbage speaks with the doctors and nurses and returns with assurances that their mom will be fine—she just fainted from shock. He takes out money from his wallet and tells Little Bro to go grab a bite to eat and bring something back for Binggeure, knowing he’s too stubborn to budge from his mother’s bedside.
Binggeure sticks right by her side as she gets moved for tests, and the nurse asks why he didn’t tell the staff sooner that his hyung worked here. He looks up in surprise, and she says he doesn’t look anything like Garbage, who must resemble their father. Aw. She said his hyung asked them to take extra special care of their mom.
Elsewhere in the hospital Dad is back to see his friend, but this time he’s hiding out in the hallway listening to his friend’s mad ramblings, heartbroken at his sudden decline.
Na-jung sits on the bus checking and re-checking her watch, but traffic is at a standstill. Chilbongie gets to the mall early and heads to the record store to buy the tape he promised, and asks the clerk if the noodle place upstairs requires reservations. She tells him it’s closed right now because of construction, and suggests a place nearby that’s just as good.
Meanwhile a news report breaks describes the ongoing labor negotiations for a subway construction project. And on Na-jung’s bus, suddenly everybody’s pagers start going off all at once. Uh-oh.
In the concert hall, Yoon-jin and Samcheonpo get paged, and soon the entire audience is buzzing.
Na-jung looks out the window when she hears sirens outside, and cranes her neck out the window when she sees it—the jumbo screen on the building across the way, with the breaking news of a mall’s collapse to the ground, with about a thousand people buried inside. OHGOD it’s where she’s supposed to meet Chilbongie!
Na-jung freezes in shock, and by the time she gets up to exit, she’s sobbing and pounding on the bus door to open. Ugh, there’s just this knot in my chest. She gets off the bus and starts running, barely holding it together as she swallows back the tears.
Haitai watches the news from home and calls Na-jung in a panic and asks her to call back because he’s worried. He paces in his room, waiting to hear back.
At the same time, Yoon-jin and Samcheonpo hear what happened and run to the payphone. They call Chilbongie and leave a message asking if he’s okay, and to call them because they’re worried. Samcheonpo: “You’re okay, right? Right?” Yoon-jin cries the whole time, and he hugs her close.
Na-jung runs the whole way and waits for the light to change at an intersection, leaning on a tree to help keep her standing. When she catches her breath and looks up, ohthankyou there’s Chilbongie waving at her from across the street, happy as a clam, with no idea what’s going on.
The light turns green and he runs across the street to her. She remains frozen in place, reeling from the shock. It’s only when he stops right in front of her that he notices she’s sniffling back tears and trembling.
She throws her arms around him and breaks down in full heaping sobs. He doesn’t know why she’s crying, but just puts his arms around her as she cries into his chest. Na-jung says in voiceover:
Na-jung: Some people say there are miracles, and some people say there’s no such thing. But in moments of urgency, people inevitably pray and wait for a miracle. Thus, miracles need to exist—so that in all times of urgency there is some glimmer of hope for people to dwell on. Miracles need to exist.
At the same time, Oppa is in the thick of the triage hotpot, the hospital flooded with the injured and dying as he races from one bed to the other. (Now we know why they made a point of him working across town at a Gangnam hospital.)
It all happens in this dreamlike slow motion, and as he loses another patient, he looks down at the man’s bloodied wrist. Augh, it’s the same watch as his—his patient’s husband who went out to go buy dinner for his wife and little son on their last day at the hospital.
As Oppa looks around the emergency room, his face and coat covered in other people’s blood, a single tear pools in his eye and trickles down his face.
Na-jung: But miracles are miracles because they aren’t common. There are far more misfortunes we don’t think of than miracles we don’t expect. That is the world. Life is too cold and harsh to live believing only in miracles.
Dad’s friend has a lucid day, and tells him he has no intention of dying anytime soon. They laugh and agree that he’ll be fine and outlive them all. But on the day that he returns from that away game with those rice cakes in hand, it’s to attend his friend’s funeral.
Dad lashes out, cursing at his friend for leaving such a young son and wife behind. “How could you go like that, you terrible bastard? Where is there a Buddha and a Jesus? How could you take someone fighting to live?! Why you?!”
Na-jung: In the end, miracles are a matter of probability. Miracles only exist to one person, and to the 9,999 others, are simply empty talk of that thing they call miracles. Life is cruel with its absolute and overwhelming probability. But still, miracles are needed. Rather than the despair of a zero probability that will never come to pass, a ten-million-to-one chance is better. That is how hope exists.”
Sometime later, the news reports of another miracle save in the ongoing rescue effort after the mall’s collapse.
Mom calls Garbage to say she sent Na-jung over with food, but he’s sleeping at the hospital tonight. He calls Hyung, who mentions that he’s going to have some friends over, and brags about having a new girlfriend.
He remembers he never confirmed the identity of the girl Garbage likes, and asks if she came to their brother’s wedding. While they’re on the phone, the doorbell rings at the apartment and Garbage tells him it’s probably Na-jung. “And if you make a pass at her, I’ll kill you.” Hee.
Hyung calls him crazy: “She’s like a sister! What, is she your girlfriend or something?” And THEN, Oppa just smiles this goofy smile that says everything. His hyung can’t even see it, but it’s like he can sense it from the silence, and guesses right away that Na-jung is the girl.
He busts a gut and giggles teasingly, asking when it started as he lets Na-jung into the apartment. Garbage warns him to keep his trap shut because she doesn’t even know yet.
The day of her musical comes around, and Na-jung gets all dressed up to go anyway, but sighs in defeat when she realizes it’s hopeless to wait around for Oppa to suddenly change his mind. She gets up to change, when Mom pops in and hands her the phone.
We just see her rocking back and forth in excitement as she talks to someone on the phone, and then when she runs outside… Oppa is standing there waiting. Kyaaaa.
She’s shocked he didn’t forget about the musical, and he chides that it’s not a thing to forget. He asks if she wants to go on a date with oppa, and stretches out his hand.
She lights up and walks up to him, eyes hopeful. She slowly raises her hand and puts it in his, and he leads her away by the hand.
Na-jung: What is the probability that out of seven billion people on the planet, the person I like would like me back? Right now a miracle might happen to me.
COMMENTS
He showed up! That’s a miracle in and of itself. It’s like his first time really showing up when it matters. Have we finally seen the death of Arbitrarily Opaque Oppa? (Please say yes, and please don’t ever bring him back from the grave.) I still contend that it was in service of withholding information to the detriment of the character that we had to go such a long stretch without ever getting a glimpse of this Garbage—the one who giggles like a little boy when he talks about his crush. In this episode it was even more blatant that he had no real obstacles holding him back—no family objections and no lingering attachment to a first love (and if it was more of a struggle over figuring out his heart, we should’ve been shown that). It makes the previous rendition of him that much more perplexing, except I think the real reason is an external choice to withhold for the sake of mystery, and it turned him into an involuntary chain-yanker.
But now that the show has finally decided that we’re allowed to know how Oppa feels, it’s pretty great. Because Oppa is great, especially when he gets to be himself and himself is a Na-jung-loving fool. It’s so refreshing to see him being so openly adorable when he talks to his brother about the girl he likes, or when he steals glances at her thinking he’s being stealthy. Him being terrible about how to express the mushy stuff doesn’t bother me (and I find his foot-in-mouth syndrome endlessly cute), as long as WE know that he likes her. Though I still have no idea why he’d wait so long to confess after declaring he’d fight Chilbongie to win, but then, his idea of progress makes a sloth look like a marathon winner. It’s okay though—that outstretched hand at the end was perfectly perfect in that understated but full-of-love, Oppa-esque way, and he’s lucky because Na-jung is still in love with him by the time he reaches out to her.
The mall collapse was beautifully woven into the episode, which put so much focus on the wedding (and the first love misdirect) that we were blindsided by the tragedy that we didn’t expect. I for one had a momentary freak-out when I thought that Binggeure’s little brother might end up being wheeled into the emergency room after going out for dinner, since that’s what the dad with the watch was doing when he got trapped. Maybe I’m just paranoid, but I was convinced we were going to have to pay a price for Chilbongie surviving. Na-jung’s moment with him blindsided me too, because I was all ready to call it Oppa’s game, and then she had such a visceral reaction to Chilbongie being okay that it gave me hope that she might love him. Now I feel completely torn.
I was all ready to forgive Oppa and cheer him on, but then they put Chilbongie on the chopping block and my heart leapt to my throat. But at the end of the day it was really everyone’s sincere concern for one another that brought tears to my eyes—Haitai, Samcheonpo, and Yoon-jin’s worried calls, and Na-jung’s desperate race to find Chilbongie. It was mirrored in Dad’s heartbreaking loss of a friend, and Garbage stepping up to take care of Binggeure without having to be asked. And I love that that’s the heart of this show—that love between friends who take bonds that could be fleeting, and turn them into family instead.

it's funny to me how much people do not like trash, when he isn't obligated to do anything and neither is nj and she doesn't need to return cb's feelings for any reason. cb is really not perfect.
the issue with him is he is nothing right now outside of her and a tiny bit of baseball. we have no indication of what makes him like her and why and it drives me up the wall. that coupled with the fact that she doesn't like him back (for now! maybe. but maybe not) and shows no signs of it either. as if all these amazing (?) things he does for her WARRANTS an attraction which is untrue and unfair to her.
i find sometimes reading the reviews and the comments coupled together kind of irritating. that's fine if you don't like characters' choices but it's not as if they're wrong or bad. sometimes things make sense, sometimes they kinda don't but still we realize why they were made (in oppa's case.)
i will also say this: to make her like cb in the next 8 eps (excluding ep 13 so 8) would make no sense considering although i'm sure oppa and nj will have to weather through some things but what do we know.
anyway, the episode was great and incredibly sad. jung woo, dong il, and go ara did a great job. i found myself crying and i don't cry. it was a lot.
and of course the end was cute! i enjoyed the episode a lot and the OST was beautiful. so sad though.

Anyways, I'll admit I prefer CB but you are right about Trash. In real life people don't always say they like someone right away or have a light bulb go off in their head at the most convenient time.
Actually, we could say the same about NJ. Why doesn't she just let go? The guy doesn't like her. Get over it. But she still persists even though it seems hopeless for a year+ while Trash isn't in touch with his feelings of a year +.
As an aside, I think they can easily manipulate our emotions to make us prefer CB. Look how they've played us so far.

I think the majority actually do like Trash (overall, he's a great guy, but w/ some personal hygiene issues), but either don't find him right for NJ or don't think that should be the type of relationship for the 2.

I can understand Trash's caution if things work out with NJ then it's all puppies and rainbows but if it doesn't then it becomes temporarily awkward at best and ends life long friendships at worst.
That said I have a horrible sinking feeling about my OTP, a couple getting together this early on is rarely a good thing in a kdrama.

Loved this episode!! I don't know who I'm hoping it's going to be. Both guys are so great that picking one is just too hard to do. I feel like if this drama was only 16 episodes then we could say it's definitely Trash Oppa, but since it's only 12 of 21, it really could still be anyone's game.

I've been on team Oppa all this time and it seems silly to jump ships when he's finally starting to act, slower than molasses in January, but still he's starting, but I think I want to jump to Haitai. Of the three Haitai is the only one that's really thinking about Na-jung so I say let's go team Haitai.
Something about Chilbongie rubs me the wrong way, even though I'll admit he's a nice guy I don't want him to be Na-jung's husband.

So, I might be wrong about this, but I think the husband definitely won't be Trash. I don't know, NJ'S love for him always felt so platonic that I can't quite imagine it taking place in reality; Trash's hesitation didn't help either, I'm not convinced yet. Am I making any sense?
And there is a thing that always got me thinking: NJ will only get married in 2002! 7 years from now in the series! I'm not saying the couple should marry right away but, come on, it's a lot of time if we consider that she already knows the husband; Trash seems too easy.
I know I'm almost alone in this but whatever. Truth is, whoever she ends up with I will still love this show. The mystery thing is just part of its charm; I love the friendship, the family, the bounds. I just wish all korean dramas got me this invested, with such truthful characters and stories. A great experience (the episodes being too long or not, lol).

Hi everyone. I am long time reader of this awesome website, but this is my first post. I discovered it soon after I discovered KDramas and the rest is history (it's been only 3 years, but it definitely feels longer).
I come here to get recommendations on new dramas, to find out what old dramas to marathon, and get news on my fav stars. I find the recaps very well written, with the most witty interjections, and well thought out comments afterwards. So far we typically usually agree on dramas (except maybe personal taste) which I consider no small feat.
Can I just say that so far my favorite KDrama has to be Answer me 1997? I loved every single character and episode. The setup, the stories, the connections, and above all, the journey. I mean it was great all around and I can't seem to get enough of it (pls don't ask how many times I have seen it). And even though we all knew the OTP, I enjoyed the pacing until the very end. Down to the episode where yoon jae finally decided to fight for love and oppa's reaction seting up the dinner.
Anyways, I am not as impressed with Answer me 1994. I was at the beginning. But I have become disillusioned as we progress. I just don't feel like all the characters are as fleshed out. Oppa is well written, but my poor Bongie not so much. Even Na Jung is only written based on her relationship with Oppa or Bongie which is sad. They really made us fall in love with Bongie with the back story of his mom and the game which was basically dedicated to Na Jung. But that's it. Every episode they keep building up Oppa who IMO already has the scale tipped in his favor with his long history with Na Jung.
As obvious as the OTP was in 1997, they didn't do anything to take away from Hyung's character or writing just to make it easier on the audience. This made the journey worth it. Right now, I feel myself getting increasingly angry at the writers' laziness. If they intend to take their time with the unveiling Na Jung's hubby, at least give us the opportunity to properly ship all contenders.
Lastly, I am so glad that I am not the only one who feels like they took their time explaining why Oppa couldn't accept or admit his feelings for Na Jung, and then ripped it all out in just one episode. Ugh! It's like the writers are bipolar. This is another reason I feel like 1997 was better. There weren't any episodes where I felt such a disconnect with the story build up.

I totally agree,i feel like this drama is only interested in building up oppa's character while dumping NJ and CB's. I feel this show is all about oppa, I mean we get to see him interact with his family, with people @ the hospital,@ the boarding house. But for NJ its like she knows nothing except oppa, it doesn't feel like she has dreams for herself, what do we know about her academics,it feels like she went to school just to date cos anytime she is in school its all about dates, parties, double dates and nothing career wise. At least in 1997, SW had to choose a career even if she was the craziest fangirl I've ever known, not going to school and stuff but she had something she was good at while NJ does not. To me NJ is too much like an oppa fangirl, like she was to that basketball player in the beginning except she jumped ship to oppa ship. I like oppa, who wouldn't but it feels like they only want us to like oppa alone. CB being ignored by the writer,by NJ and by HT and even his cousin is upsetting. The writer ignored CB this ep, giving him a few short scenes. NJ ignores his feelings by staying close to him, I mean going on dates with a guy who told u he likes u gives the impression that he's got a chance when doesn't, just tell to shove it and quit being friendly (dats wat I'd do and it works everytime). As for HT I get that u like NJ but I thought CB was ur friend and he was supposed to be in the mall with NJ, u should at least show some sign of concern for him. BG as far as I know CB is ur cousin and he could have been in that mall and I get no reaction from u? That's very bad, I guess the writer should be blamed. Pls writernim we need to talk about this childrens career, being 21 is not jus about crushes but about life planning and decision making. For God's sake they are not teenagers anymore but young adults and this show treats them as teenagers.

However much I rant about this show I still love it. There were definitely great parts of this episode. Actually everything but the one-sided champaign for Oppa was awesome. The collapse of the mall was heart tugging and a little reminiscent of 9/11, Oppa's family, dad's friend, Yoo Jin and Sampcheon were all testament to the great writing associated with drama. I really hope the writers get back on track with the love story as well.

This show is my CRACK. I'm sure this is what a good crack would feel like if I were to do it. As always it kept me on my toes and made me laugh and cry like a lunatic. It's so thoroughly entertaining and heart tugging that it will forever remain as a part of my fond memories. I'm like a pendulum forever going back and forth with oppa and chilbongie. But one thing is for sure, no matter who najung ends up choosing a part of us will still be heartbroken for the one who got left behind. This show is hitting all the right notes for me and the actors all have delivered so far: you can see the vast improvement in go ara. This is the making of her start to being a legit A-list movie actress. I can go on forever about this show. Much love to the answer me 1994 team. And thanks for the recaps xx

Some people are never pleased.
1- Don't know oppa feelings, he is gay
2- Ok, he know oppa feelings but he needs to confess
3- Ok, he confessed but now is too late
4- They will break up because CB has to be endgame
5- How can NJ not like CB back, is she crazy
6- Oppa is jealous, oppa answered CB after CB provoked him by saying he would steal NJ from him ''Bad oppa!!! Perfect CB''
7- I still think NJ and oppa are like incest, do not see chemistry at all
8- CB will never give up and is honest since forever, he opf course deserves NJ better! He had a lonely and sad past, NJ must be his ''prize'' after winning this ''game'' because poor him ! He deserves NJ
This is getting tiring guys, please, you can ship your couple without trying to put down Trash in everyway you can or twisting what he does. God, he can't even get jealous that people start to bash him, if CB gets jealous he is the cutest thing ever, aww but Oppa? How dare he! CB can go and provoke oppa with ''I confessed even thought I know she likes you'' ''Game is not over yet'' and all I see are people saying ''Poor CB oppa was mean to him'' Hum, why mean? Oppa just answered what CB wanted and also showed he is not going to let CB ''steal'' NJ... this is not being mean this is fighting for what he loves. Serioulsy, everything Trash do, some CB fans (note I said some) twist it to make oppa look bad...
And everything CB does is perfect, I can't guys...

I MUST AGREE. Ive posted in previous comments that whoever NJ is gonna end up with Im sure SHE IS GONNA BE HAPPY. Im on the Oppa ship, but I dont bulldoze my ideas and reason out that he is the optimal choice and should be the choice for NJ. Ive pointed it out as well, that the writers are GONNA TROLL AS AROUND. If the fandomness gets in the way of JUST ENJOYING THE RIDE, then what is the point of just saying "OH i love Reply 1994".
The joy of the show is the development of the characters. How they interact as friends and family. The comments are becoming more ridiculous because fandom ship Oppa justifies why he did this and that OR fandom ship CB is justifies doing this and that?
What the heck? When ALL of us were on our 20's werent we on NJ shoes??? Its a big world out there. A world to see. A life to experience. A love that can be unpredictable yet rewarding???
Samcheonpo has MENTIONED AND QUOTED a very significant thing about love and life. Lets go back to that.
So what if Oppa is too late? So what if its unfair that CB is not getting enough screentime?
IN REAL LIFE , you cant really tell what goes on inside peopkes head and hearts. If you were NJ, (or Just you), you are at Life's receiving end. There is no guarentee that what you would give , would be returned in kind.
This forum has become AN IDOL OBSESSION. Instead of an intelligent EXCHANGE OF IDEAS of why the writer did this and that. When you watch something as enjoyable and cleverly written as Reply 1994, you applaude at their ingenuity in getting us hooked. Because its just Cleverly written. ITs A SLICE OF LIFE. As a person you can put up your torch and root for somebody because , everybody has their own personal choice, preference or experience that they can relate to. But you cannot throw your torch and try to burn somebody because you think their ship is winning.
AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, in all irony , Haitai (though im team Oppa), could be the winner or for all we know SOMEBODY WHO IS NOT IN THE SHOW?
It sounds ridicolous but hey, this is Reply 1994. So just enjoy the ride.
Its becoming and sounding like obssesed Idol groupies.
Sigh.

I think Iam super biased that I only am excited for the family and chilbong parts :DD now that it is p-retty clear that chilbong will nothave thatmuch screentime, I guess either I will drop the showor just see his character pretty much agonizing untilthe end even if he has another girl to compensate with. I hopethe writers will not make the unnecessary conflicts when it is pretty clear that na jung likes trash and vice versa, like chilbong will become the stereotypical annoying character. UNless Najung wavered, hehe
I think we Chilbong shippers are as "pathetic" as Chilbong, waiting for his scenes as he is waiting for na jung.. Who can't blame us? Our chilbongie won us straight out without him needing someone to push for about 10 episodes. I can forgive 4 or 5, but 10? :p and it's asif the writers like "ok!before all the netizens consider chilbongie, we should turn the tables to oppa before it's too late!" -_-
Sheesh, if it'll be like that, I just have to drop this show and agonize myself with Heirs instead :DD

Twisting the facts?
NJ realized she really liked Trash by episode 4, episode 8 YJ told everyone that NJ liked Oppa (August 30).
NJ confessed officialy on episode 10, 30 december, CB confessed on episode 10 31 december, Oppa confessed to CB on episode 11. And confessed/showed his feelings for NJ on episode 12. It took 3 episodes. Not 10.
CB liked NJ since epiosde 6 but took many episodes to confess too, so why the bias? Oppa just realized his feelings later.

As a shipper: The next few episodes will be a long haul and painful for Chilbong shippers but we just have to hang in there. Until I get an ultimate confirmation that oppa-trash is the husband, I'll stand behind this ship. Actually, if we look back on how this series went about its shipping moments, Episode 1-5 certainly went to Oppa and Episode 6-10 were for Chilbong. If we follow this pattern, I'm just hoping that the writers will be redeeming Chilbong for Episodes 16-20 and 21 hopefully!!!
As a drama fan & lover: Oppa-trash, why so awesome? More than Na Jung's silent giggles to herself, you just win me over with your giggle sessions with your hyung. And really bravo-bravo to middle hyung. I first watched this episode without subs (yes I was that desperate!) and the first scene where middle hyung appears in and starts to blabber, I was like, "He's really really really like oppa-trash!" so yeah kudos to the actor who played him, I'm sure he studied the trash character so that he can deliver on the 'trashy-goodness' haha.
And this episode cemented Go Ara as one of my favorite actress. She really delivered not only the dialogue (the one with oppa in the car which was winsome) but also her acting when she found out that Chilbong was not in the department store when it collapsed. I'm certainly going to be watching out for Go Ara's projects in the future.

If you mean his bad hygiene habits, then I agree. But this can be fixed. But he as person Trash? Never.
Always taking care of others. Always worrying about the consequences, always playfull with kid patients and smiling even though he must be dead tired, always remembering the smalls details that make the differences and etc.
Too bad you can't enjoy the show, this show is much more than who is the husband and CB. So much characters you are losing by giving up.
I'm Trash shipper but I won't give up the show if NJ goes to CB, actually I think CB and NJ are cute too. I can accept them as the end couple and be happy too.
They are all happy in 2013 anyway. I wish people could understand it and enjoy the show.

Don't let your emotions get on the way of enjoying a great drama - to me this show is the best one that I've seen for the year and would be one of my top favorite dramas ever. It isn't normal to have a drama that has great chemistry among all of the cast, great storyline and of course, the ability to leave us guessing who the husband is. I even find myself frustrated after marathoning the week's episodes because I promised myself to wait until the series ends, yet I torture myself anyway. As a viewer, the angst of everything is so worth it.
It shouldn't matter who the endgame is - it is great to know that all is well on the present time, whatever happened to them in the past.

Glad to see that Oppa and Na-jung's relationship will be explored further and progressed, now I'm curious to see whether it will go on until the wedding. Since most relationships will have to go through some rough tides here and there in order to make it the other side.
Oh Chilbongah, my sweet Chilbongah, what will I do with you? As much as we'd all like for him to give up and move on, I don't think that he can, not yet, not until he himself can come to terms with it. Since it seems he's been pushed aside, will the writers take this opportunity to fully develop him more? I hope so. The one scene that I will never forget would be that scene in the telephone booth, when he left that bittersweet message for his mother. Can we see more of that Chilbongie? Please writernim, please?
Thanks for the recap, will be back tomorrow for episode 13's!

Chilbongie has so much potential as a character to be explored, I know it's supposed to be all about baseball and Na-jung with him, but can the writer at least flesh him out more? Is she waiting for something? Does she have something else in store for Chilbongie? Or is this just going to be his fate?
What drew me to him was that phone call with his mom. That scene was so true to life, and Yoo Yeon Seok completely owned it. I'm curious as to why the writer dropped any further development. Did Chilbongie and his mom resolve their issues off screen or something?
I feel that there are so many missing pieces to Chilbong's story, so many loose ends that need to be tied. It literally pains me, because he's the one character on this show that I favor.
Urgh. I even lost interest in the romance angle, because I'm so fixated on Chilbongie's character development.
I still love him and will always be by his side rooting for him, but please writnernim do something productive with his character.

I read on gummi's twitter account that the one episode extension was due to the time needed to develop Na-jung's husband. After watching episode 13 and reading this blurb for the production team (and no spoilers!), I can say I'm almost positive now that Chilbong is end game (This is coming from someone who thought Oppa is the husband until episode 13). At least they gave us some more background to Chilbongie's character on this episode. I really hope they do get to flesh out Chilbong's character more, and Na-Jung and Oppa's relationship should be delved deeper (oh boy!). We still have so much to go, and this drama just kills me with all the feels that I have for it.

I think the reason why there are a growing chilbongie shippers is because chilbongie's gentle nature balances na jung's feisty character and it's actually funny because it is the guy who is the good natured one - something you can imagine few yrs later.. Can I just shoutout my love for Appa... he is mostly shouty and all googoo eyes with Omma...
But he does melo best... his scene with his ailing friend is really... heartwarming. His scene at the funeral...it was all sad and asking his friend to stuff himself with ricecake of their yesteryears memories... and berating him for leaving his wife and young child. Sometimes miracles cease in situation like this, but it gives us hopes that things will be better... and work out for the best.
It also reminds me of his scene in AM 1997, when he went to the hospital chapel to pray when he had stomach cancer, and all about how could god take him when he has not walked Shiwon down the aisle...
Sung Dong Il ahjussi... jjang! Its seeing actors like this, we hope so much for current generation of actors to be like them...

Every scene editing so good, the hospital scene n the building collapse. It so rare to see dramas that includes all the current happening like that.

Although I do have a ship I wouldn't be heartbroken if the endgame wasn't what I was expecting but I feel that Oppa, Chilbongie, and Haitai all have there own pros and cons when it comes to being in a relationship with Najung.
Oppa: He is the most well-rounded character. He is thoughtful, sweet, protective, loyal, and funny. He just has so much depth as a character that I love him so much. He is pretty much the perfect guy and I actually wasn't frustrated with how long it took for him to come to term with his feelings. It's really difficult to get in a relationship with someone so close to you especially a serious one. If the relationship somehow takes a turn for the worst he would be left with an overwhelming amount of emotions and problems. His relationship with Najung would be like that of a married couple that have been married for 20 years, they know each other so well and are so comfortable with each other that it just feels right. However he is such a dunce when it comes to romance as others have pointed out, and as an observer I think that it is adorable how oblivious he is but as the object of his affections it would so damn frustrating. Not to mention because of how close they are it would almost be like they almost don't even need to do the whole awkward getting to know you thing at the beginning stages of dating, which in my opinion is both good and bad.

Chilbong: He is so earnest, assured, sweet, and determined that you just want him to get the girl. I am someone who doesn't believe in love at first sight and think people who do believe in it mistake it for attraction/interest at first sight. It's impossible to love someone when you only know about their shell, how they look and how they act. So I am a firm believer that Chilbong started off interested in Najung's strange quirks, her obsession with Sangmin Oppa but unwillingness to talk to him when she has the chance, her strange way of talking, her unabashed way of behaving, and her loud but affectionate personality. It started off as something he thinks is cute and strange and then he develops a crush and now I won't say he loves her but he does really care for her and like her for who she is and is willing show to pitch his heart to her without reserve. This is actually what i think separates him from other second lead characters, up until now they have all been really nice and act as a daddy long legs, but they're either too passive about their feelings so you can't blame the chick for thinking he's just a nice and friendly guy who probably acts like this with everyone or try to force it down the girl's throat with all the she is mine crap, wrist-grabbing, and forced intimacy and more than anything disregard for how the girl feels which is a main lead thing too...but it still pisses me off. I know he kissed Najung on New Years and that is considered forced but I will justify that as him trying to grab her attention and show her that there is someone other than Oppa and she didn't push him away in disgust although she was really shocked. I know people have called him clingy or creepy, but he just seems like any normal person with a crush, wanting to see and be with them as much as possible. He realizes that she doesn't like him but still trying to win her heart but not in an agressive manner. He's also trying to be her friend and wants to be her friend some people might say he's got ulterior motives but when it comes down to it, whether or not she likes him or not he cares about her as a person. However, he doesn't have the depth that Najung and Oppa have in their relationship and compared to theirs ginormous raincloud of history and emotions his feelings are fluff. There is just so much between Najung and Oppa and they have known each other for so long, which is why I think that Chilbong and Najung dating would be so refreshing, because they would be in the beginning stages of romance and it would be the start of getting to know more about each other. It's how most relationships start, you start off as strangers then you get to know each other slowly. Chilbong may not love Najung but I have no doubt that he would eventually. I also like this relationship because it would mean a new start for Najung as well. I don't she will ever stop loving Oppa, but I think she can stop being in love with him. Feelings change, morph, and grow. You can probably guess who my bias is.

Haitai: This man is so awesome and I just want to hug him. He is sweet(a character trait they all share), honest, straightforward, caring, loveable, and friendly. He care so much for everyone and is just so loyal and protective and willing to just approach and reach other to a person that you can't help but love him. He isn't the reserved type of guy so he is willing to admit to who he is attracted to without being bashful. He is your typical easygoing male. I think that a relationship with Najung would work but I don't see marriage happening. However, I also don't see the relationship happening in the first place if it did happen it would be cute but I don't see it happening because he is at a place in his life where he just wants to meet cute girls and have fun and he is at a point in their relationship where he cares too much about Najung as a friend to make her one of those girls. I don't think he has any deep feelings for Najung. I think that he is attracted to her as much as he was attracted to Yoonjin. He has admitted that he would be willing to go out with them on separate occasions. If he were to develop some serious feelings for Najung I would change my mind but at this point he seems like he is content with their relationship as is Najung.

All in all if their were three of me and they were interested I would date all of them and we would all ride off into the sunset and it would be awesome.
I love this show and I just want them all to be happy. Although I do have my bias, in the end I only care if Najung ends up with who she loves. It's not about who she picks because she's has a lot of history with them, or they're so sweet that they deserve her, or because the other two choices give you a headache...it's about who Najung has feelings for and it is her choice/writer's choice.

Thank you for your posts. I appreciate that you talked about the pros and cons for each without talking bad about the other contenders. It's probably because you like them all as characters.
Part of the problem with shipping wars i think, is that people sometimes do not take the trouble to express their opinions without belittling or insulting the other contender.
I think it's sometimes unavoidable to make comparisons to drive a point home or to really show the difference but it can always be done in a thoughtful and constructive manner, just like you did in your posts.

Aww thank you. ^^ There are so many typos though....-.-; and I agree, that's why I wanted to post this. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses and there is no need to hate on others just because you don't ship them. It's so easy to casually insult someone over the internet because you're not saying it to their face but just because one can doesn't mean one should. There is no need to get worked up and angry. But seriously shipping wars can become really heated.

Im just dissappointed that this drama is going through the typical Kdrama route which is " boy and girl who grew up together ends up together " and also " we also fight a lot but we actually like each other ". Really same main story as Reply 1997. The only thing that spiced up this drama is how the others characters have their own little story to tell and how these group molded into a like a family relationship. Im just wondering now that it's definitely crystal clear that NJ And Oppa are going to end up together, what's the rest of the other 7 or 8 episodes going to look like and how will the writer keep our interests aside from telling the blooming relationship of NJ and Trash.

I noticed during the cucumber scene..
Najung: Stop putting them [cucumbers], or I will be suffocated. ---> "Stop pursuing me, or I will be suffocated"
Chilbong: Here, just one more. Here, too. ---> "I won't stop trying."

Rewatching this episode again and cried my eyes out in the scene where Na Jeong was crying-running towards their (her & Chilbong's) meeting place and my heart just acckkk! I love love love the Na Jeong! She's such a great character and a great girl! She's not afraid of her feelings and faces them head on and she doesn't take any crap from anybody! In the end, even if she doesn't return Chilbong's feelings romantically, the concern and love (platonic) she showed to him must count for something in his book. Shipping aside, as long as this character is happy in the end, I'm all for whoever she ends up with!

I think we'll be lots more of Oppa's first love. It was totally weird that he let his old girlfriend sit in NJ's seat if he's really in love with NJ. Also, as soon as the old GF arrived he COMPLETELY ignored NJ--not so much as a glance or good-bye. He may love NJ, but not enough to treat her with respect and attention in the presence of his beautiful, curvaceous first love.

Is it just me or the "groom' parents" is not Trash's Parents? If I'm not mistaken, the groom's parents is seating on the same looking chair like Na Jung's Parents. (Episode 9)

Im totally with Chilbongie!!
Oppa is nice and everything but he doesnt impress me. He had it too easy.. The girl likes you.. You think about it and make a decision... Duuuh!
Even in 1997... YoonJae had to fight for the girl

I love that my investment in this show has compelled me to critically think and elaborate on the thoughts and feelings I get while watching the show. Forcing me to really explore why I think the way I do, why my heart is swayed by a certain character over another one, and get me to self-reflect and apply what I’ve learned from the show to my own life.
One of the good things to come out of from watching this drama was the chance to connect and share ideas/insights/opinions with people from all over the world, coming from different walks of life. Having a forum to discuss in (be it Tumblr, the soompi thread, livejournal) is wonderful, especially when we either have very few, or none at all, friends to talk to about the show in real life. I’ve come across so many different people with different perspectives that have helped me see things in a new light, or further solidify my initial beliefs. It’s great not to be alone.
However there is a double-edged sword to this.Especially to this whole “shipping” business.
The undeniably most discussed topic is “Who is the husband?”. Which, as of late, has turned into “Who should be the husband?” I hesitate to call myself a “shipper” or “stan” because of the negative connotations that come with that word that extends to the personality and character of the person being labeled as such. Because it has not been yet confirmed who the endgame is, I picked the person who I think is the husband based on who I thought had the most potential to be together story-wise and on the information and clues given about the husband. Who I think should be the husband? Well that’s a little more tricky. I think all the contenders have different traits that are suited to Na Jeong. But they’re all my own personal preferences that don’t really matter in the end because I am not Na Jeong. And whoever Na Jeong loves is up to her and her only. The same goes for the other characters.
In that same vein, I’m getting increasingly concerned about the amount of comments that start with “Oppa fans are so…” “God,I hate Chilbong stans…” “So and so’s stans/fans need to…” “I hate him because his stans…” Or comments like “Oppa is annoying because…” “Chilbong is so creepy and needs to take a hint…” “Oppa/Chilbong don’t deserve…” “Na jeong doesn’t deserve…” There is a line between criticism and straight up bashing. And it’s when it crosses to the latter that people are provoked to defend themselves. And when that defensiveness is misinterpreted as being provoking, then it leads to hostility between fans who lose sight of the common thing that brings them together: their love for this show.
I’m no stranger to debate and hell, I’ll admit that sometimes I don’t practice proper peaceful debate etiquette. I’m a pretty passionate person, as you can tell from some of my posts, and it might come off as arrogant or self-entitled when that’s not my intention at all. But I’m still learning, guys. That is why I choose my battles wisely now. It’s hard to fight the urge to respond nastily when I come across any of the comments above, especially when MY intelligence or personal character is being undermined. But then I remind myself that nothing good would come out of it and instead, I choose to highlight the non-Romance aspects of the show in a forum where the preferences and points of view are much more diverse, because it’s safer and less provocative. And radically let out all my fangirly feels elsewhere where it is more appropriate and...

welcomed. I’m also open to reading criticisms of my favorite characters as long as I can understand the reasoning behind it. It’s a fact of life that not everyone is going to think the same as you. And it’s okay, it’s what makes the world more interesting. I just hate how these differences are being seen in a negative light as opposed to being celebrated.
I was getting depressed from reading all the comments on Dramabeans/main soompi thread as a majority of them, more or less, have fallen along the lines of the ones I’ve mentioned above. I’m trying to not let them deter myself from enjoying the show like it has others who now feel discouraged from posting, for fear of being harshly judged for opinions/feelings/thoughts that they’re entitled to have. I just wanna love this show and my faves without being personally criticized. Is that really too much to ask?

Nicely put, Cam. Thank you.
One of the reasons I've come to prefer Korean drama to American television is because it displays the writers' talent as an art form, rather than just showcasing an actor. They have an ability to manipulate our emotions and make us care about characters that are, until acted, only figments of their imagination.
The fact that viewers are so personally invested in the outcome of the love lines in this drama attests to that. So while I feel a bit removed from the CB vs. Trash fan-grrrling, I understand it. Sometimes life is so stressful, and we see so many terrible things in the world, (i.e., typhoons, recent building collapses in Latvia, Mumbai and Bangladesh) that a kind of emotional fatigue sets in, and we don't feel the energy to care, or we think it won't make a difference if we do. And some may argue that watching dramas may distract us from caring about more important (real) things in life; but I think writers teach us, or remind us what it feels like to care. If all a person can do at the moment is muster up feeling for a character in a drama, is that such a bad thing? It encourages discourse, conflict and resolution, all of which we've witnessed in this string of comments.
So yes, while I sometimes think the train of thought is a little shallow regarding this drama (and others), I'm grateful that people care and are willing to put themselves out there, and practice expressing themselves, just like the writers do when they write these dramas.

Oh noes.. Oppa! He's so in love right now and there are still 9 episodes left. He's going to get his heart broken, isn't he?! The moment NJ hugged CB because she was worried about him, that was such a OTP thing/moment in every drama. Next up is the DENIAL stage, plus didn't we already see this in 1997?! Date the oppa for a short amount of time then realize she actually has feelings for someone else? I don't want to see Oppa gets hurt :(

Okay so I was silently reading a lot of comments about this drana and it hurts me a lot(as a ChilbongxNaJeong shipper) It is good that you can see oppa's background and such but i think this episode is just all about him. His career and such and putting aside other characters.
I don't know if the viewers are right that they will have a plot twist or such. As a fam of kdramas I love plot twists. But hey. In ep 11 they said they would go head to head. I was frantic about how they would fight for Najeong in their own ways but I feel like CB loose in this. Because NJ really didn't do anything after he confessed. It's like she doesn't really see him as a love interest.
I feel hurt for him. I'm a CB-NJ shipper but heck NJ. If you don't want CB can you just reject him like right now? I understand that you're inlove with oppa and oppa likes you but. Can you be somehow sensitive with CB's feelings towards you? Because a guy is hurting so much and no one even knew about it because the other borders only knew about oppa najeong.
And that scene of the dept store collapsing. I feel romance between NJ and CB. I may be top biased but I somehow think it is. Guys. This is a kdrama. Not the reality. It can happen. And I hope on the next eps they would give justice to other characters.
Team Chilbong. Please stay strong. Hang in there. Uri Chilbongie is not giving up. How can we give up too right?
I'm in this ship since ep 0 and I will be with this ship til endgame.

i knew the department collapse was coming up... when they kept mentioning the name (chilbong and najung)... brought bad memories, i remember that day so well.
also, i was thinking that it would've been awesome to end the drama series right after episode 12 - with najung and trash/garbage walking hand-in-hand... good ending scene.
yea... i'm team trash/garbage, although i think chilbong wins...

i think hatai or chilbong is the husband of na jung because eng episode of ep.9 when they watch the wedding video opposite chair of na jeong's parent is not trash oppa's parent....
although how i wish im wrong but i see it clearly its not trash oppa's parent...it makes me sad....(from Samcheonpo's observation #82 guide)
ilove trash oppa to be with na jeong..

This episode was so depressing. To be honest, I didn't worry about Chilbongie for a second, since we know he was going to be fine thanks to the numerous glimpses we've had of the future. All my concern went to the husband who had gone to get his wife and son noodles. That right there is my personal nightmare, and is the reason I always swore never to send my husband to the store when I'm pregnant and craving. I was actually hoping he'd be the miracle . . . but when I saw that watch, my heart sank. This episode should come with a tissue warning!
Still, brilliantly written and acted. I just hope the next episode is filled with cute-adorableness to make up for all the tears this one wrung.
