Song Hye-gyo returns to Korean film with next project
by girlfriday
It looks like Song Hye-gyo will be returning to Chungmuro, after two back-to-back projects abroad with Wong Kar-wai’s The Grandmaster and John Woo’s The Crossing. Not that it feels like she’s been gone long or anything, with recent melodrama That Winter, The Wind Blows just earlier this year. She’s being courted to star in the next project from director Lee Jae-yong of Actresses, which by the way is a fantastically entertaining watch. Javabeans and I caught it recently and died laughing at the thinly-veiled reality posing as fake reality. Either that or it was the wine.
Anyhoo, this new film is called Dugeun-dugeun My Life (dugeun is the sound of heartbeats, as in Thump Thump My Life). It’s about a young boy with progeria, a genetic condition that causes rapid aging. Is that Jack or Benjamin Button? It’ll be a family story about mom, dad, and the boy, and Song Hye-gyo is being courted to play mom, who will look younger than her own son.
I guess they’ll cast a veteran actor to play the son, which will definitely make for a heavy-hitter come awards season. The movie is being produced by the production company of All About My Wife and Jeon Woo-chi, so expectations seem to be pretty high. Song Hye-gyo is still unconfirmed.
Once it’s done casting, the movie hopes to start shooting before the end of the year for a 2014 release.

Sounds like a hit Indian film "PAA". If it's anything like Paa it'll be great. Funny and heart tugging to boot.

That's the first thing that came to my mind too. Paa is a great movie. Amitabh Bachchan's acting was so realistic that I sometimes forgot that it was 70-something man pretending to be a 12 yewr old boy. The movie made me cry.

Immediately thought of 'PAA'...wonderful movie....the best part was Amitabh Bachchan plays the son with progeria while his real life son (Abhishek Bachchan) played his father in the movie...

She's one of those faces who are so pretty to look at, but I never feel any particular warmth or charisma from her. She is unbelievably photogenic though. Wow.
Actresses was delightful, and this film sounds like it could be very fun. Interested to see who will be cast as the son.

definitely a rarity.
Naturally just really pretty. Going to admit i was distracted a few times during TWTWB simply because of all the eye candy but i can agree with someone above who said they can't seem to feel the warmth from her acting.
Even so, i like her. I think she's a better actress than people take her for, though..

Much better than what people normally give her credit for. But honestly, the prettiness is a bit distracting so it's not so always an advantage for actors who want to be respected for their work too..

I am not being biased, but SGK is indeed an amazing actress! I watched TWTWB several times and each time I was captivated by her sincerity and honesty in her portrayal of the blind heiress. I wish to see her with Jo In Sung again! Aja aja fighting!

SHG, Kim Tae-hee, Han Ga-in are probably 3 of the most beautiful actresses in Korea and they are all natural.
Shin Min-ah, Jeon Ji-hyun, Lee Yeon-hee, Son Ye-jin, Han Hyo-joo, Soo Ae, etc. are all beautiful and natural as well.

Aww, that sounds really good!! I recently became a fan of hers after watching That Winter (which was disappointing, but it was the first time I actually thought, damn, this gorgeous lady can really act. I remember her in Full House years ago and was surprised how much her acting had improved. She was great, totally out-acted Jo in Sung imo).
I still need to see The Grandmasters and I'm really looking forward to The Crossing too :').

And after reading the most important information about him, I have had the same feeling of: Oh you are so a bad woman, woman!!! But I can't help. Even my husband cracked down with laughter, may be in approval only because Korea is so far from where we live?

It definitely doesn't feel like she's been gone any length of time. I feel like I've seen her a lot and I didn't even watch TWTWB.
That being said, I totally want to third that Actresses endorsement. I saw it awhile back and I loved it. It felt so real and honest and it was great to hear them discuss not just industry politics but also some of the obstacles faced by actresses as they age in the industry. I thought it was a great work.
Still need to watch The Grandmaster. I didn't even know she was in a new John Woo film as well. Good for her.

I hope the screenwriter reads up dilligently before writing about a mom "who looks younger than her child with progeria". The looks are really one of the least grave symptoms of progeria, as few patients get to live longer than 13 years. It's not growing up fast, it's rather toddlers getting wrinkles and developing in a very specific way. I wonder if the director is going to look for a child with this condition to play the part? Because it's pretty much impossible to do with a healthy child and heavy make-up. (Progeria is much much more drastic than what is shown in "Jack").
On the one hand, it may be a great chance for SHG to show a whole range of maternal feelings and experiences, on the other hand I am afraid, the film will rely on juxtaposing the gorgeous actress to a child stricken with a disease that takes such a toll on physique.
Call me a maniac who doesn't understand that it's just a film, but I feel that oversimplification of such a painful matter is not fair towards the ones who actually suffer. I'm fine with using fictional diseases, but I am upset if the real ones are shown in an inaccurate way.

progeria is a medical condition where the affected child ages rapidly and look like they're over 70 or something. so instead of dressing up a child to play an old-looking person ,it would be easier to cast a veteran . :) there is a Hindi(Bollywood) movie called Paa. where veteran actor Amitabh Bachan played the 11 year old who has progeria.while his real-life son Abishek Bachan played his movie-father. confused? :)

It's got nothing to do with rapid growth. Geriatric changes happen to little child's body. They have problems with heart, blood vessels and bones.

It's not an adaptation from Paa, but an adaptation from a SK bestseller published in 2011, My Palpitating Life, by KIM Aeran. According to the synopsis of the novel, the kid looks like about 80, even though he has just turned 17. And his parents are both 34. The book is described as “the story of the youngest parents and oldest child in the world.” So the premise sounds fun, though I can see that it would be at the same time quite heartbreaking.
I hope she takes up the role and am looking forward to the movie.
