Park Jin-hee and Lee Joon in noona romance Botox

Huh. Park Jin-hee (Gu-am Heo Jun, Fermentation Family) has been cast in a new move (yay!), and playing her romantic co-star is MBLAQ idol-actor Lee Joon of IRIS 2 (less yay). The movie is titled Botox and it’s an adaptation of a webtoon of the same name, and the film will be the directing debut of the webtoon’s writer, Hwang Mina.

I find this a really strange pairing, for several reasons. The obvious one is that Park Jin-hee is a sparkling, talented, funny actress with loads of charm and many, many years of acting experience. Lee Joon… has less of those things, and has yet to earn the title actor with his roles thus far. But get this: She’s playing 42, he’s playing 21, and the story has them in “a loving relationship.” Which is curious because their real age difference is only 10 years, but they’re playing it as 21. She plays an aspiring writer who sees him (an immature 21-year-old who’s got both a tough side and a pure heart) as a mere kid… until the day he confesses his feelings for her and sends her into conflict. So a bit like What’s Up Fox, but with a lot more cradle-robbing.

You wonder why they didn’t just cast more age-appropriate stars, but I did the math — if you actually cast those ages, you’d get something more along the lines of awkward and uncomfortable than believable. Think: L paired with Lee Young-ae. Or Lee Hyun-woo and Go Hyun-jung. It’s unsettling, right? Which isn’t to say noona romances can’t work (we would never say that! Ahem) or that age gaps are untenable in romance stories. It’s just a strange way to cast this story, and I feel like shrinking the real age gap by so much sorta undermines the point in the first place.

Botox will begin filming in November.

Can't wait for the movie.
To see Lee Joon in a rom com after two serious projects: IRIS 2 and Rough Play.
Hope this role suits him.

For me, I find the pairing kind of interesting.

Hwaiting ^_^

I'm in! Sounds cuuuuute. I like PJH a lot. I know nothing about Lee Joon except the trailer for Rough Play which was intense: I guess he wants to stretch his acting and you can't have a character more opposite than this one...
Now let me camp here and wait for the usual nay-sayers who freak out with age-gap romances. *Grabs pop corn.*

I'm in too. I'm assuming that they did not cast an older actress due to backlash over a huge age gap, or perhaps she was just the right person for the role, OR perhaps there will be flashbacks where she will need to play the character as younger. Probably a combination of things. I was thinking about this actress the other day, and wondering when we'd see her in something, so this is great news. I also know little about this guy except hello he makes pretty pictures. Age gao drama-That's the first thought I had-oh hear we go, actors AND characters have age gaps, oh, my, here come the comments. *I've got milk duds and a suicide coke, want to share?*

I love her chemistry with Kim Bum who's much younger than her (SWSWTM), so I think this movie will be a cute one to watch. Just like Beloved, the age gap is more than 10 yrs., but I was rooting for him to be with his noona-ex-wife than his younger partner.

Oh Joon is trying to build his acting cred with diverse roles

Yeah a 10 year real life age gap and then expanding it for the movie is probably the best option...thinking of several Hollywood films where the age difference was distracting

I too am too excited about Lee Joon but the reviews I've read of Rough Play/An actor is an actor were good (about him at least) so who knows. I do love Park Jin Hee.

I would not lament over the age-gap. But if the idea is to explore this subject, then go all the way and engage an older actress!

On the other hand, PJH has noona-romance experience from The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, so in a way she's a safe choice. And I love her :)

Joon appears to be one of the idols who if not praised for acting chops, hasn't been named as someone who sucks. Weird that they just didn't go with a 10 year gap, since that is plenty large, but I dig the noona romance line.

I love noona romances, but agree that 10 years is plenty large. (I dunno.... maybe the huge age difference is required for the storyline.) Still, I wish the romance would stay in the fantasy-let-me-pretend realm instead of the creepy-I-could-be-dating-my-son arena. IHYV worked only because they were such good actors, but the real life age difference was still unsettling for me. just call me... FuddyDuddy Ajumma

I was loving this article until L was mentioned, and then all I could think about was how much I wish he had been cast over Lee Joon. And yes the L /Lee Young-ae, Lee Hyun-woo/Go Hyun-jung comparisons are frightening.

Yeah, I'm a huge Infinite fan, especially of L/Myungsoo, but I cannot vouch much for his acting. He ran the gamut from cringe to believable in SUFBB. I cannot see him in a role like this with the experience he's had thus far. His image is also a lot gentler and boyish than what this role seems to entail. I haven't seen Lee Joon act but I've seen him in some TV appearances and he has the tough/immature thing down pat.

That being said, I LOVE PARK JIN-HEE AND I WILL TOTALLY WATCH THIS, despite not being a big fan of noona romances. ^__^

I'm not going to count Ninja Assassin, but to see other Lee Joon acting roles (that aren't listed as cameos):

Jungle Fish 2
Housewife Kim Kwang Ja's Third Activities
The Dramatic
I Need a Fairy (to see his comedy skills, this is a must)
Iris 2

He's getting really good reviews for Rough Play.

I have no problem with the actors themselves. I watched Fermentation Family (Kimchi Family on Dramafever) and loved it, so that made me a fan of Park Jin-hee. Lee Joon I've seen on Iris 2 and on various variety shows where he's a total dork :), but so cute. Plus, I'm a fan of MBLAQ, where he's my second favorite after Thunder. But as for the huge drama age-gap.... That seems a little weird to me. It would be even weirder if they'd gone with someone like Lee Hyun-woo who's face screams "I'm still young!" But Lee Joon, at 25, has enough sophistication about him (when he's not being a dork) that I can't see him playing 21. It's too weird. So, I wish they'd shorten the age gap. Plus a 21-year-old with a 42-year-old.... I'm sorry, but that's just icky. She's old enough to be his mother!

So, I sincerely hope that a) they shorten the age gap and make the female lead younger by, at least, ten years or b) write the script in such away where they have a "fling" but then he falls for someone else (his own age) and she sends him off into the sunset to live with his new love happily ever after. But given that this is a k-movie, where what I want rarely happens, I doubt it.

I'll still see it though because I love both actors.

Not grossed out cause I know two instances where this has happened.
1 Barbara Streisand dated a tennis star who was 20 years her junior.

2 Aaron Taylor Johnson (kickass) is married to a woman who is 23 years his senior and they met when he was 19. Now happily married with 2 kids.

So I can see this happening and it working.

Lee Joon is one idol-actor who *doesn't* make me say "less yay" after reading that he's been cast. :P Seriously, though, he's getting good reviews for Rough Play. Having seen him on various shows, I'd say that he has the "tough outside with the pure heart" down pat already, so this seems like pretty spot-on casting.

If you look at Joon's body of work, you might not be so skeptical obout his acting. Although for the most part he has had supporting roles, he's displayed good acting in each of those roles.
Ninja Assassin
Jungle Fish
IRIS 2 (cuts of this can be easily found on Youtube)
Rough Play (lead role) recently released and receiving RAVE reviews for the quality of film, as well as for how well Joon leads the show from start to finish.

He's a good actor and I think he will do well in this role as well. I'm excited for this
He's not an idol actor. He's an actor and an idol.

I don't really agree with the "less yay" for Lee Joon because I think he's good. Yeah it'd be more exciting to see an actor getting the role instead of an idol, but I think Joon can't be underestimated.
