Park Hae-jin joins Man From Another Star
by girlfriday
More good news for alien rom-com My Man From Another Star: right on the heels of the announcement that Yoo Inna would be joining the cast, it was rumored that Park Hae-jin (My Daughter Seo-young) was also considering. He’s since confirmed that he’ll be signing on. But lest you assume this means that Yunho is out of the running (which is frankly the first thing I thought with a sigh of relief), it isn’t. Yunho is still unconfirmed, but Park Hae-jin is slated to play his older brother. Uh… how many second leads will this drama have, exactly?
I can’t figure out which of the brothers will get the bigger billing (and maybe it hardly matters when your competition is 400-year-old forever-young alien Kim Soo-hyun anyway?) but the character Yunho is being courted to play will be diva actress Jeon Ji-hyun’s fiancé, so he might be the more traditional second lead. Park Hae-jin will play his hyung, the more proper second-generation chaebol who leads the family company. He’ll be a mysterious character, who seems perfect in every way on the outside, but leads two different lives between day and night.
He’s sounding more like the antagonist, which could be a fun role for him. It says he’ll be the key variable in Kim Soo-hyun and Jeon Ji-hyun’s relationship, which could go any number of ways. Does he compete for her affections or does he try to do science experiments on the extraterrestrial hottie? Listen, you give me aliens, and my imagination runs haywire.
The Wednesday-Thursday drama from the writer of You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly and the PD of Tree With Deep Roots features Thieves’ co-stars Jeon Ji-hyun and Kim Soo-hyun in a culture-clash romance between a famously bitchy actress and an alien who crashes his UFO in 1609 Joseon and lives to the present day. It’ll be fusion, sci-fi hijinks, and probably everything but the kitchen sink. Hell, let’s just chuck the sink in there too and get this show on the road.
My Man From Another Star replaces Heirs in December.

Ah GF to have your wit!!!
Those two lines made me choke while I was drinking water.
I really wish Yunho was out of the picture, the entire cast so far is looking so strong on the acting side, that it would make him stand out even more like the metaphorical mushroom in the middle of the room.

This. I saw the title and also thought, Yunho is out? And someone who can act is in? Yay!!! Then I read the rest of the article and my bubble burst. I'm going to mope in a corner. And pray to the drama gods that Yunho has the balls to acknowledge his shortcomings and decline. Or if he MUST be in, drop everything and hire an acting coach for the next several months. I so want this to be good.

The thing about a lot of SM actors/actresses (the idol ones, I mean) is they often /want/ to take smaller roles and work from down-up (relatively speaking) because they do know their failings. But because the ones casted usually have $$$$ power (as in they will sell to places like Japan/China/etc and the drama production will earn way more $$$$), they actually aren't given the opportunity to have a smaller role, because that means their foreign fans might not watch it as much. That's the worst part - even idols who want to start small, in a way can't decline a big role because no one or very few productions will offer a smaller role.

They probably added Park Hae-jin, since they promised SM a spot for Yunho. To save face, they will keep Yunho in and increase Park Hae-jin's role.
Of course, that is the worst case scenario. And the preference of most fans is that Yunho, not be anywhere near this drama.
The drama has the makings of being a national drama, like TMETS, so you know SM doesn't want to let their grubby hands off it.

I'm hoping that Yunho's will be a funny, small, meddling role.
Like that Top Star in QIHM.
Then the real contender for JJH's affection is the Hyung.

I like Hae Jin so I'm pretty much up for it. The cast seems quite okay and personally I am willing to give Yunho another ( last one boy last one) chance.

I too am willing to give Yunho another chance, but not a big role, please. I watched Mirae's choice, and Jung Yongwha improved greatly. Like damn, never saw it coming. Tho he hasn't appeared much, I can totally tell by the way he showcases himself.
It's kinda a big FU to Park Haejin's face if Yunho would have the greater role. A majority of Parks dramas were rating successes. Recently "Daughter Sooyoung" was a great success, and I don't think SBS would do such a thing- on second thought. SBS is Sm's slave. -__-.
P.S. Why can't Tv stations say no to SM? Why? OTL

They can't say no to SM because SM has waaaaay too many artists in their arsenal that can be used for dramas, variety shows, etc. And SM has had a history if pulling out their artists from certain networks so the networks will lose big time if they can't even get a certain artist to appear in their show.

I know. This is why I loathe SM. They shouldn't take advantage of fans in order to rack up $$$$. I honestly think SM is the most powerful company right now. They got their idols on every drama, and movie right now. =__= wish they actually use that revenue to invest on acting teachers or legit acting classes...even better, legit actors.

They DID invest on legit actors when they bought Jang Donggun's company and made them SM C&C. They DO have acting classes and all that but they more of train their kids to be jacks of all trades and masters of only one talent (or none even). But they really should know better than to give drama roles to ones who really don't have what it takes to act.

I think Yong Hwa has become more comfortable after his cameo in AGD...but he was never as bad as Yunho to begin with...only awkward. So I'm not surprised as he is improving...

I feel you. The first 2 episodes were meh. They look too old for their roles. They should have aged the characters, or cast young unknowns.
Found Heirs boring, cliched and same ol, same ol. Plus, the camera work and visual is dull. The costuming and make up is below par and the drama looks to be self congratulatory in the fact that they filmed in America.
Drama just seems off to me. Lee Minho looks bloated. Park Shin Hye is her typical candy, now with increased water works. Krystal thinks she is still acting in High Kick 3 and is perhaps even worse than I remembered. Woo Bin should have taken another role. The rest are a blur.
I could go on, but going by the ratings drop, it seems others agree as well.

I was so hoping yunho is out after seeing the title. Urgghhh, I just hope yunho turns this down or production finds someone else... Lee Wan please...
Cause come on drama Gods if you can make Lee Dong Gun return after 5 years why not bring Lee Wan back to my dramaworld. He has been back from the army for more than a year but still no drama for him..
Anyway i like Park HaeJin since watching Famous Chil sisters where he was paired with Lee taeran but I kinda like him best in East Eden, even that that drama was all kids of wrong. He and Yoon JungHoon was the only thing good about that drama.

I think his character will be a bigger role than Yunho. like Spriderman part 1 - Tobey's one
Spiderman-Alien - Kim Soo Hyun
Harry-fiance - Yunho
Green Goblin/ harry's father-Yunho's brother - Park Hae Jin
Just my prediction.

"a mysterious character, who seems perfect in every way on the outside, but leads two different lives between day and night."
So, an evil alien who eats humans at night or who wants to conquer the planet, or a chaser of cutie aliens, or a Fox Mulder kind of chaebol? My imagination can take the power too...

Fox Mulder is by no means a chaebol, he is just a crazy punk.
But oh wouldn´t an X Files reference be awesome somehow.

Okay, I have no idea what the actual age difference is between them but this guy does not look old enough to play Yunho's older brother. He could definitely pass for his younger brother though. I mean, no offense to Yunho (he seems like a really good person) but he could totally pass for a thirty year old at this point.

Kim Soo Hyun, Jeon Ji Hyun, Park Hae Jin and Yoo In Na, definitely a great cast. All 4 of them is good in acting.. Park Hae Jin in my opinion is really good in antagonistic role, i watched East Of Eden and he is an antagonist there but i actually like his character since he have acted the role really really well to the point were i like his character more then the lead, Song Seung Hun's character..
If Yunho were to be casted then his role should just be minor not the second lead, isn't it unfair for Park Hae Jin to have a role lower than Yunho even after the success of My Daugther Seoyoung??
Plus even if i'm a Cassie i don't deny that Yunho is bad at acting, what more if he has to act next to this great actors & actresses? His incompetence will be more noticeable i am actually worried for him since they will surely eat him alive in terms of acting..
Yunho please concentrate on TVXQ's comeback on December for TVXQ's 10th anniversary.. Just pick another drama for next year after the comeback.. I will surely support you just not this one please..
