Mi-rae’s Choice: Episode 4

There’s a lot more of the cute as the relationships get even more complicated in this hour, giving us more insight into our pairings in the initial timeline. Our characters are even more layered than we anticipated, and our hero gets his own shining moment (apart from the bright lightsaber, yes). This show leaves me wanting more with each minute that passes, to the point where I’m twiddling my thumbs to find out what comes next. It’s starting to feeling like I’m the one who’s aging a month a minute.
Even though the hilarity has upped its game, the numbers continue to slip as Episodes 3 and 4 ticked in at 8.5% and 7.3%, respectively.
EPISODE 4 RECAP
At the sight of Mi-rae and Se-joo’s closeness, Shin yells that there’s no dating among team members. He gets all huffy, saying that there must be certain boundaries in the workplace and seeing them together makes him all confused.
Shin walks out with his head held high, only to wonder what’s gotten into him once he’s alone.
Meanwhile, Mi-rae is formally introduced to the team as the maknae writer. She isn’t officially part of the team just yet, however; she’ll go through a week-long trial run after which Writer Bae will make the final call.
Yoo-kyung drops by her usual drinking haunt where she sees Se-joo sitting at the bar. Er, do bars make good study spaces? She’s surprised to hear that he frequents this bar since it’s really expensive, and sidles up to him, figuring that he must be well-off despite his VJ status.
Her words drip with aegyo as she asks coquettishly for his help when she’s back on the air next week. Batting her eyelashes at him, she points out that they are team members, after all.
At home, Ajumma Mi-rae drags her younger self up to the attic to finally show her the Master Plan drawn on the window. She’s violated some serious time-travel laws when she took that experimental time machine to the present. All for what? “To save you! To live my life!”
Aha, so it must have been a cop or time-keeper of sorts coming after Ajumma in the elevator. Her days are numbered, she stresses—she only has a month, two at most, because each passing day adds one month to her own present.
She asks why Mi-rae is simply content with her entry-level position, which is when her heart starts racing again. What will she do if she loses Se-joo to Yoo-kyung? Mi-rae answers that it isn’t likely, to which Ajumma Mi-rae asks, “Even if that means Se-joo and Yoo-kyung were originally meant to be?”
She explains that in her timeline, it was Yoo-kyung whom Se-joo fell in love with. Mi-rae says that she still finds all of this hard to believe. Fed up, Ajumma Mi-rae tells her to go and be content with losing both men and stay at her maknae writer job then.
Back at the bar, Se-joo finds out that his bill is already paid for. Yoo-kyung leisurely drinks in her chaste gesture, saying how a poor VJ like himself shouldn’t spend his money so excessively even if he hails from a rich family. Se-joo: “I’ve had three drinks.” HA.
Yoo-kyung stutters nervously in response, and when she checks the bill, suffice it to say, she freaks out. It’s hilarious. Astounded by his rather expensive taste, she drops to banmal, even more offended when he offers to pay for a potentially cheap dinner instead.
That takes them to another fancy Japanese restaurant, and Yoo-kyung reminds him yet again that working at a broadcasting station doesn’t automatically make him a celebrity. He needs to learn how to spend his paycheck wisely or else end up with a mountain of debt.
She pours his water and sets his utensils for him while she says all of this, and the gesture isn’t lost on Se-joo, who then takes her wrist to tell her to stop. She thinks it’s because he doesn’t want to be nagged, but he notes that this courtesy seems like a habit.
Yoo-kyung replies that she does it out of habit, and that all the reporters do it to get into a PD’s good graces. Se-joo interrupts her to tell her not to do it in the future.
They’re just two people, he explains, and women, or Yoo-kyung more specifically, shouldn’t feel that they have to act this way. He advises her to let go of the thoughts that her identity is defined by how other people see her because she’s already impressive and confident as it is.
Then he places the utensils in front of her instead, and Yoo-kyung wipes a tear from her eyes, stunned by the chivalrous gesture.
Mi-rae lies in her bed thinking of the Master Plan until she falls asleep. In her dream, she’s gently woken up by Shin lying next to her on her hospital bed. They tease each other for a few sunny and sweet moments… until Oppa’s voice echoes to ask what they’re doing.
Both of them bolt awake in their separate beds, clutching a hand to their chest, puzzled. Huh, so they’re sharing simultaneous dreams now. Shin cracks open his dictionary to the word “mi-rae” (future) and hangs on the word “afterlife.”
They greet each other politely at work, and when he sees that she’s running an errand, Shin takes it upon himself to guide her to her destination. He even waits for her outside, and then takes her on a tour of the building. I love how they run into Oppa getting his haircut and Shin promptly shut the door. Hahaha.
They head to the prop storage room next, and Mi-rae excitedly runs around to explore the place. As for Shin, he walks up to the Darth Vader mask with eyes of wonder. OMG, are you a Star Wars fanboy?
Cut to: Shin, donned in the Darth Vader suit, wielding a lightsaber. HAHAHA, oh this is awesome. It’s just… I can’t even. Total WIN.
Mi-rae pops out in a pink princess dress, which looks a bit gaudy on her in my opinion, and asks what Disney Princess she looks like. She frowns when he tells her she looks like “Mulan who stole Cinderella’s clothes.” HA.
Shin defends that Mulan is even better than the other princesses because she saved an entire nation on her own, but Mi-rae isn’t listening because her hair is caught on her dress. He tries to help, but she grows frustrated, and ends up getting her sleeve caught in his costume instead.
They hobble together to free themselves, which results in a torn lace sleeve. Turns out Shin also knows how to sew as he mends the tear himself. Mi-rae instinctively pulls back when he tries to bite off the thread, but they both become aware of the charged moment.
Mi-rae is called away just then, and Shin stops her to ask if she’s free one day so that, um, they can work building the basics. They agree to meet at the entrance. That sounds an awful lot like a date there, Vader.
Then we cut to chairman Lee screaming her head off at her employees for landing one of their top clients in the hospital due to a food allergy. Whoa, they don’t call you Miranda for nothing, do they? Still furious, she wonders if the company needs some major restructuring.
Ajumma Mi-rae has already anticipated this as she reads in her diary about her past worries about whether Kim Shin will end up fired. “It’s a good thing if he does,” she muses.
Mi-rae is busier than ever at work, handing in drafts (one of them covers a suspicious note lying on a laptop), running around the workplace without coming home for days. Ajumma Mi-rae finally manages to corner her to warn that all her hard work is for naught since she’ll just end up fired anyway.
But those words go in one ear and out the other, and Mi-rae runs off. Which is when Ajumma Mi-rae’s heart acts up again, and she notes how it’s getting worse by the day.
Yoo-kyung sets down the last of her meal coupons after having lunch with Shin. They’d agreed upon them in exchange for the car repairs, and she points out that he’s been saying good things about her. He says it’s all true, just as long as she curbs the aegyo. Thank. You.
The rumor mill has been churning out that they’ll end up married, and Shin looks up in surprise when he hears that Mi-rae has heard the same. He tries his best to sound casual as he asks what Mi-rae thought about that, and Yoo-kyung says she’ll tell… in exchange for more coupons.
As they walk back, she pouts, coupon-less, and then lies through her teeth, saying that Mi-rae was happy about it and congratulated them.
That answer troubles him, and he stops in his tracks to see Mi-rae and Se-joo having lunch together. Yoo-kyung suggests that they go say hello despite his jealous, pissy reluctance. Hehe.
He scares Mi-rae out of her chair (literally), and wonders if the maknae VJ has enough time on his hands to help out the writer. I love how Yoo-kyung pretends to help Mi-rae dust off (and half-hitting her instead), and Mi-rae in turn calls her out on her nasally cutesy voice.
But there are more pressing matters at hand, and the broadcast employees reel in shock to learn that more than half of them will be fired.
Se-joo immediately takes it up with Grandma, who says they must place their hotel and resort as top priority. Why have FDs and writers around when the PDs can do it all themselves?
Ajumma Mi-rae lingers outside the office to pick up some clues and hears grandma ask if her grandson knows any fortune-tellers. Bingo.
Inside, Se-joo calls his grandmother out on how little she knows about the system despite the fact she runs a broadcasting network. She tells him to run the company immediately then, and when he refuses, she tells him that he can quit.
Ajumma Mi-rae finds Mi-rae outside, who asks how she knew about the mass layoffs. Mi-rae is still determined to see her final days here and then start anew again, but Ajumma Mi-rae says that doesn’t matter if she marries Se-joo.
To that, Mi-rae asks, “You want me to live my whole life depending on men? Isn’t that how you ended up like this?” Ooh. She points out that her future self would have had a comfy life on an announcer’s salary.
Ajumma Mi-rae argues that her younger self is attracted to Shin anyway, but Mi-rae boldly declares that no—she’ll build herself up first.
The announcers rally around Shin to talk to chairman Lee on their behalf, but Shin says that he’ll have to take care of himself from now on. He passes by Mi-rae sitting in the editing room, busy watching her name in the credits over and over. He thinks back to her promise to do her best and that gives him an idea.
The morning team gathers to greet chairman Lee, who arrives less than ten minutes to air. She keeps Oppa on and moves through the rest of the team, stopping to praise Se-joo’s upbringing. Did… Grandma just shoot Mi-rae a sharp look?
She asks where Shin in, who walks in and apologizes for his tardiness. It’s their job to put out a good show, and Shin worries whether they’ll have enough manpower after the layoffs.
Five minutes to air. Shin asks that she make a decision about their team or he won’t go on the air. That’s why she came down here just minutes before the broadcast, wasn’t it? Thinking she was dealing with a bunch of yes-men?
Three minutes. There’s a saying that the show must go on, Shin continues, so the chairman is free to replace the broadcast with something else or an empty studio. Oppa looks like he’s going to pop a vein any second now.
He calmly invites the chairman to have a seat, and suggests that they cover YBS’s restructuring instead. Good workers always produces a good show, which means high ratings.
Thirty seconds. Finally Chairman Lee relents to keep the morning show team as is. And though the others sigh in relief, Shin isn’t quite done yet; he’ll go ahead and relay the facts as so: while their team remains on staff, the others aren’t so lucky.
Realizing her predicament, chairman Lee agrees to pretend the whole thing never happened. At that, Shin rushes to take his position and addresses to the audience the importance of taking a stand in the face of injustice.
Writer Bae remarks that every word coming out of Shin’s mouth is all improvisation. And while chairman Lee stalks off, we see Mi-rae falling for Shin at that very moment, impressed, as Ajumma Mi-rae looks on.
Writer Bae is impressed to find that Mi-rae has already finished the tasks assigned for their next broadcast. When she asks for Mi-rae’s write-up, Mi-rae recalls how she planned to save her best draft for last, but Shin told her to stick to her principles and take initiative as if she was the main writer.
So when Writer Bae comments on her improvement, Mi-rae comes clean about her tactic. But Writer Bae says she already knew, and then happily announces Mi-rae as their new maknae writer—she’s hard-working, smart, and above all, honest.
Mi-rae tells Ajumma Mi-rae the good news, but she grows uneasy when she’s asked if she’s certain that everything is in order. Sure enough, one of their guests can’t come in and they need a replacement shaman. Cue Ajumma Mi-rae.
Shin recognizes Ajumma Mi-rae when she arrives on set. She apologizes for their last encounter, but assures him that he’s sure to be surprised this time around.
Needless to say Mi-rae is shocked at this turn of events. She hunts Oppa down, insisting that they have to switch out features, but there’s no time. So she tries to tell him that the random ajumma is actually from the future, but he gets called away.
Chairman Lee is at home when the show starts, and she’s intrigued about the morning show’s shaman guest. The staff realizes that they don’t have a name, so when Shin asks for it, Ajumma Mi-rae answers truthfully: “Na Mi-rae.”
Shin notes the coincidence and repeats that there are two camps of people: those who believe in fortune-telling and those who don’t. He identifies himself as the latter, and the staff grows increasingly nervous as she continues to veer off-script: “Shall I make you believe?”
Shin invites her to try, and so Ajumma Mi-rae talks about his childhood story of his father, and then his morning pronunciation exercises. He confirms it, but is slightly spooked when she points out he read out the definition to “mi-rae” recently.
We see that Ajumma Mi-rae had written about it in her diary, and in the present, Shin confirms it again as chairman Lee eats it up. Mi-rae takes a call from Se-joo, who says that he’s on his way.
At the same time, Shin allows Ajumma Mi-rae read into his future, which is far more uncertain. It’s a long, silent minute before Ajumma Mi-rae turns directly to the camera, and as if directing her answer straight at Mi-rae, she says, “You’ll be ruined.”
COMMENTS
Now that’s a blatant warning as any. It sounds more like a warning to Mi-rae not to marry Shin because she’ll end up in a financially-stricken state like herself. At least, that’s what I presume from her insistence to marry the chaebol vs. the celebrity, which really doesn’t sound like a huge dilemma on this side of the present. I like that we’re beginning to face the consequences of Future Mi-rae’s meddling this week, both in the appearance of the Black Man (who seems like a Time Cop right now) and the physical toll on her body. Her constant interference with the present couldn’t go unnoticed that much longer, and I was surprised at how freely she talked about what society is like in the future (e.g. giving out stock advice) while withholding so much information from Mi-rae. Right now the rules seem a little lax around her, but that note suggests some pretty severe punishments if Future Mi-rae gets caught. Eep.
On a technical note, I’m sort of sad to see that the poor lighting does no favors for any of our actors, least of all our heroine. I wanted to wait a few episodes to judge whether it was a trick of the eye, but unfortunately, it’s true and it ages them for the worse. It’s not always the case of course (most of the outside and brightly-lit shots are gorgeous), but a chunk of the indoor shots drain their faces of color rather than revitalize them. It’s a small gripe in the grand scheme of what is a strong show thus far, but man if I could wish that our Pretty could also be shown as pretty.
I especially liked how we were shown how our initial pairings came to be in this episode. Seeing Yoo-kyung and Se-joo romantically involved seemed like a far-fetched idea, but his understanding to her vulnerabilities made a great deal of sense. So while I do think both boys don’t harbor any romantic feelings for Yoo-kyung at this point, I can see how Yoo-kyung is/was (I know… it’s the timeline thing) attracted to Se-joo. She’s still deliciously fun to hate with her puzzled reactions to how a VJ could enjoy such luxuries, but she also makes for an intriguing and compelling second lead.
On to our other pairing, I really do love how Shin and Mi-rae’s relationship is evolving from bickering to intrigue to interest. Lee Dong-gun and Yoon Eun-hye have a fantastic chemistry onscreen, and I love how both of their characters stand up for themselves (and others) when it counts. Their shared dream makes me wonder if it’s a lost memory for both of them or a subconscious longing that has yet to be realized. It’s a whimsical fantasy to be lost in, if only for a moment, and then hurled back to reality to realize that dream is stuck in a galaxy far, far away.

I think it's future Mi Rae (as a character) who could be bringing down the interest level in this show.
So far she has done nothing but nag at Mi Rae and hint at ominous things. I feel like they're dragging The. Special. Reason. too much, without giving us hints and reassurances (through words or actions) that her reason is compelling enough and worth all the scheming and meddling she's doing in this timeline.
It's really too bad that Future MR's senselessness is making me lose patience with the show, because the OTP have their own challenges I want to see them focus on: Shin getting promoted, Mi Rae being accepted as a writer, and their is-it-worth-falling-for-someone-who-might-possibly-hurt-you-in-the-future problem.
I still want this drama to succeed though and I hope they change something about ahjumma soon. (PS Thank you mucho for the recap, gummi!)

Exactly, the parts where future mi-rae comes in and I unconsciously think ugh...boring part.
It's like the future mirae and the present mi-rae are 2 different people. When present mi-rae told off future mi-rae for marrying shin for convenience and that present mi-rae wants to succeed, I'm like "uh... shouldn't have been thinking the same thing because this is the future you that made that decision when she was younger? I'm mean shouldn't present mi-rae what future mi-rae did.... omg I'm confusing myself. I don't even know whether anyone understands what I mean.

I totally agree. It's so weird that the future self is so fundamentally different from the past self--even on moral/ethical grounds. I can't make the connection as to how MR could ever become FMR--the jump in logic is just too great.
That being said, I've read a story just like this one where the future version of a character is totally different from the original version--and the reason she changed was due to a extremely significant event where the past "HAD" to be changed. I don't think MR's Choice will go that far, but I really don't know at this point.

This is exactly my problem with future Mi-Rae. I understand that time does in some ways change you, especially so when you are taking on cynicism, regret, anger, etc. however they are still the same person and she should still understand how herself would respond in a given situation. I just don't understand how she could be that out of touch with her past self unless she isn't actually Mi-Rae (something I've considered given the frustrating differences).
One thing I did appreciate about this episode though is that at least we now have some understanding of the consequences she's facing for time travel. Knowing that time travel at her point in life is still experimental and that no one knows what could happen, that she is essentially a guinea pig, it makes her somewhat more understandable. She's nagging out of desperation from more than wanting to change her life...still, if she knows herself at all, she should stop and think about what the best approach would be. Cause clearly this ain't workin'.

I think that's exactly it: Future Mirae and Present Mirae are two different people. In the original version of events, Mirae gets in the car accident with Kim Shin while she's still working in a call center, with no will to quit and find something better for herself. In that timeline, she goes straight from working that dismal, dead-end job to marrying Shin. She never got another job or pursued her dream of working broadcasting, instead depending entirely on Shin.
Now, in this new version of events, Future Mirae's interference did some good: Her badgering got Present Mirae to quit her call center job and find a line of work in which she can be valued for her talents. Future Mirae has given her past self a sense of self-worth and independence without relying on a man. Of course Future Mirae didn't intend for Past Mirae to end up working in the broadcast station along with Kim Shin, but that's Fate/Destiny for you. No one messes with Fate in a kdrama.
I think this whole new life direction that Present Mirae is embarking on, thanks to Future Mirae's initial nagging to better herself, is what is shaping her into a different person from what she became in the original storyline of events. So Future Mirae right now is in fact a different person since she experienced a different life and was shaped by it in a different way. That version of events took her in a different direction than the alternate version of events that are shaping/direction Present Mirae.
In the end, I think Future Mirae's meddling, which resulted in Present Mirae finding her own worth, will change the New Future Mirae (and her relationship with Kim Shin) enough that whatever terrible thing happened in the original future to make her hate Kim Shin will either 1) not come to pass at all, or 2) make her strong (or him) strong enough/different enough to get through it together.

I agree. The future Mi Rae seems so different from the present one, and although her experiences may have hardened her and turned her into the cynical woman she is now, shouldn't she be more considerate of her present self and understand what's present Mirae is struggling with (especially with wanting to make it on her own as a writer instead of latching herself onto a guy)
Her attitude actually makes me think she's a little more like Yoo-kyung. She knows what she wants and knows exactly how to get it. She comes off a little bitchy to be honest.
I'm entertaining the thought that she isn't actually future Mirae, but future Yoo-kyung, and she came back in time to make sure that she ends up with Kim Shin instead of Se Joo. Also, Se Joo's grandma's company is undergoing a hard time, so maybe further in the future they totally got bankrupt or something? And Kim Shin was the one who succeeded so she's latching herself onto him, but indirectly, pushing Mirae on to Se Joo so Yoo-kyung ends up with Kim Shin.
Then again I could be just really twisted.

That makes sense. The Future Mi Rae seems just too harsh and lacks understanding of present Mi Rae - one can change a lot, but one does not misunderstand the choices one makes- regret and frustration with those choices, possibly, but I would expect much more understanding and compassion for the present Mi Rae.

I think it's because the Future Mirae didn't have the 'revelation' like the Present Mirae did.
Future Mirae met Shin before she fed up with her customer service job, and married him because he's an announcer (per two Miraes convo).
Present Mirae realized she wanted something more, than be content with her life and chose to pursue her dream. Thus it made a big difference for their characters.

ratings suck because it's a bit too contrived for some..there's no rhyme or reason for a lot of it...i think most people would trust their future selves enough to listen to themself...

I'm liking second lead now and really getting very annoyed with Future Mirae. I hate meddlers to a really extreme degree and I better be given a good reason for her meddling if I am to go down fighting against this ship.
I love how Shin is so stiff in his public persona but has so many eccentric quirks which Mi Rae brings out of him. They seem totally suited for each other. I'm really liking him more and more.
For a moment there I thought Future Mirae was going to tell Miranda something nasty about second lead. If Future Mirae knows so much about the future, why can't she just tell Shin what not to do.
There are moments when I feel interconnectedness and fate should be more present. Even if Oppa doesn't "recognize" Future Mirae as his sister, shouldn't there be a heart connection that is somehow present? Same thing with Shin and older Mirae. Connectedness should transcend time and fate even when someone gets older. Something isn't consistent here, it seems to me because it kinda bothered me that Miranda seemed to feel something about Present Mirae. Why should she when Miranda is in the present, has not yet met Present Mirae, and everyone else in the present haven't connected or "felt" something when with Future Mirae. Am I just being a pill about this?

I am with you about future Mirae. I want to know more of the reasons behind why she want to change the future/past/present. As it is, I don't understand her reasons. I know they have been hinted at vaguely. But I still want more of a reason to why the change NEEDS to happen as the future self is so anxious about.

ah I would hate that! I want there to be a good, non superficial reason for it all. And not made in a "oh you hate her? Well then, time for the explanation!".
Sure I want it to be a fun ride and not go into anything to serious as such. But there has been hinted to something more, and I would like to know what it is.
However I do like that present Mirae isn't just going blindly with what the future one wants, but actually questions her.

Future self as hindsight and also as Intruding Mother. Very uncomfortable combination. How many of us have said in hindsight.."If I had known." My mother used to say those were the four saddest words in the English language.....And yet......

Carole! We have the same thought once again. It sort of bothered me in these first few episodes that Shin and Oppa don't feel any frisson of anything when they meet Mi-Rae. At first I thought well, maybe they're just not addressing that. But then to have *Miranda* of all people feel something . . .it did seem strange.
I don't mind that we don't know the reasons for Future Mirae's presence at this point. What Happened? is one of the two big mysteries of the show (the other being What Will Happen After the Change), so they're not going to reveal that this early in the game.

I don't think Miranda felt any 'connection' toward Mirae. She just stared back at Mirae because Mirae looked at Miranda in the eye. Very contrast with other staffs who divert their gaze form Miranda.
I can be wrong, though.

Its suspention of disbelief that Shin doesnt remember how Mirae would look as old. Like we know how our friends, family will look when they are older. People dont change their look totally with their age.
Im disliking future Mirae for the first time for real now. First i forgave alittle because she wanted to help,save someone Mirae loved in the future. Now she doesnt care about present Mirae hopes for a better job,life made on her own.
She shouldnt use, destroy Shin with secrets, things he told her because he loved her. Use their memories together no matter what Shin did in the future. Violating someone trust like that.
She is like evil stepmother mother villain of the show now. She wants to destroy the life of both Mirae,Shin.

I thought it was her own copy of the diary from the other timeline.
I think its hard to remember small details of what Shin told future Mirae when they met decades ago from her point of view. Diary keeps small memories that the brain cells removes because they are not needed.
Shin might be important in her life in the future but his job, who got fired 25 years ago, a fortune teller who never came to show is easy to forget.
I cant remember high school memories that werent the highlight, the fun ones and high school was 10-11 years ago for me. So its actually realistic to forget things that are not emotionally important.

So that's one of the things she had in her bag when she came from the time tunnel? I can see Mirae keeping her diaries through all those ages and I can see Future Mirae deciding to bring all the diaries back..but her knowledge of all the companies that are big in her present and which companies failed (!!!)...seems very selective as they are unemotionally important. Did she --a regular housewife-- know about all these stocks enough to remember them?
I'll go with the idea that she carried the diary with her. (It'd be good for Present Mirae to snoop inside Future Mirae's bag one day, methinks.) But if it's a habit of his to study the dictionary, wouldn't he have kept up the habit as long as he was working in broadcasting? Especially if they shared the same bed. Unless he stopped being a broadcaster of any kind.
And she should've looked at the memory with a wistful sad feeling. I want the acting of Future Mirae to stretch a bit more. She is almost mugging, and is invariably angry or scheming. The only moment where I saw some other emotion was when she saw Oppa. I wnt to see some of he love she had for Shin as well...reflected now in her face when she sees him. Or is ALL love totally lost?

She did use her diary to convince present Mirae in the first ep that they were the same person. Same diary with same words,writings memory.
I think they planned this beforehand with notes on important memories. We know she was in time machine experiment. Maybe she wrote Sae Jo, other rich people, companies in the future in dairy or other notebook to help with her plan. She knows too much randomly of things that are as you say emotionally unimportant. But then again she is acting like golddigger looking for rich companies, their male owners, heirs. Something horrible changed the positive, hardworking Mirae into someone with this much much memories planned to use in this time.
I agree future Mirae needs to act more often with emotions like she did with Oppa. I think they are saving it for eps 10-16 when usually the serious conflicts take over the romantic comedy part of this type of show. They are saving her real emotions about Shin, other things in the future because that would give away the tragedy that changed her. If she acted sad about seeing Shin we would know something bad like he died happened in the future. Its good not to give away her feelings too early.
Let her be the cold meddler, the villain so far.

Yeah thats the strenght of this show, the mystery is hard to figure out. The premise sounds like a gimmick for a typical rom-com story type show otherwise. Its good characters, fun romantic story and alot better mystery SF/Fantasy type show.
Like one of the recaps said a good blend of the cute and the serious mystery,drama.

Ahh I loved the Darth Vader scene! so funny. Was waiting for it as son as he layed eyes on the suite.
Yoo-Kyung.. Love to hate yes but still annoy me. I liked the breeze from Master's Sun in having a non typical second female lead, while here we are given one. Still, the scene where she sees the cost of Se-Joo's drinks and her freakout was pretty funny.
I do like how we get glimts into the "original" course of action as well as the changed one. It does make for fun, especially when you have the leads react to it. What I do like though is that the dreams leaves them spooked, and sorta opens up their feelings. Yet it doesn't feel to manipulated. I mean, their interest and connection is formed on the side, the dreams just give them an added jolt.
Also, jealous hero that's not sure why he is jealous? Yes please.

I love the dreams...and sooo love the dictionary. He's using the dictionary almost as a divination tool. He's very left brain in his choices in life. (Yes, i will look for a scar on her shoulder because I dreamed she had a scar on her shoulder.) And yet he says he doesn't believe in fortune telling.
Whereas Future Mirae has her charts and logical planning.
And then there is fate itself...inexorable and relentless working through water and accidents even when one is planning stuff...achieving stuff in spite of our planning. am loving all that.

Did my ears deceive me? Not one but TWO male leads telling a girl not to act like a two-year old. Be still my beating heart! No wonder it brought tears to the Aegyo Airhead. I was a little flustered myself when Yongwha gave the speech about both of them being people, so she didn’t need to wait on him. I love K-dramas but Aegyo has been one of the hardest things for me to adjust to, and I recently wrote a blog post complaining about the Crazed Cutesy antics. So this episode hit a sweet spot, and I can hardly wait to see what’s next.

I see that scene is not just about his being a kind man. With that scene I finally understand why he falls in love with her in the future and marries her.
Unlike other men or women he sees another side of her that touches his heart despite his rejection of her seduction.
The way he keeps warmly hold her wrist when he stops her doing what she does is a revelation of his real love for her. That scene even makes me like the second female lead.

Sigh . . .it didn’t take long for them to put Se-Joo and Yoo-Kyung together, did it? Darn it! That beyotch does not deserve my-er-Mirae’s future boyfriend. In all seriousness, though, why does she deserve a dinner and a boost-your-spirits speech from Se-Joo? Not fair.
On the plus side, I really liked Se-Joo’s speech about women doing things that men don’t in the workplace. Very enlightened of him! And that’s true even in the U.S. When I first started my career, I had a female executive mentor who told me never to pour coffee for others or organize work parties; if you do, the men start thinking of you as their girlfriend/wife/mother and it’s hard to inculcate that respect in them. In a similar vein, I love Mirae asking her future self if she wants her to spend her life depending on a man. Yay girl power!
Is Disney sponsoring this drama? Between the Star Wars and Sleeping Beauty/Mulan references . . .
I have to admit that Mirae and Shin are very cute together. But now I’m worried about Future Mirae. Oh, and Carole, you were right! The time-travel guy does seem to be a cop. Good call!
That ending was certainly a cliffhanger, wasn’t it? I wonder how true it will prove to be.

Since it seems that that reason for marrying is now replaced by Mirae's ambition to make something of HER life, shouldn't Future Mirae back off and see what happens?
They are the same person, right. If Future Mirae had been given the same choice Current Mirae has: Work or Chaebol, wouldn't she have also chosen Work?
And how about this? Maybe Current Mirae's new life trajectory goes beyond Future Mirae's financial needs? What if current Mirae is going to make tons and tons of loot as a writer?

I am on the same page with you on this one. Yeah, marrying a chaebol would solve a lot of your financial problem but will it give you freedom, or self satisfaction feeling at your own achievement. That feeling of self worth and independence? I think Ahjumma MR was so devastated with what happened to her life in the future could probably because she rely too much on the people close to her. First her oppa, and after that her hubby. And once her life fell rock bottom, she didn't try to evaluate herself but victimize herself and put the blame on someone else for all the bad things happened in her life. It's grating on my nerve when she keep shoving down MR's throat about marrying SJ will solve all of her future problems. I am so glad that with her meddling with these people course of life, instead of changing the fate, it changes the people instead. MR grows to love herself more and discovered a lot of things on her own and KS changed from someone who's driving force was arrogance and self centered into someone who tried and help others and realized that it makes him feel good at doing it.

Yes, Future Mirae has already affected/changed Present Mirae's life. In one or two days she has made Present Mirae quit her job and turned Mirae into a fighter/feminist..instead of mopey Mirae who lucked out by having an accident with a gorgeous Anchorman. She has succeeded MUCH. She really should lay off now and let go. Marriage to anchorman and having self-confidence and a good job is vastly superior to the old timeline.

To me, FMR is still in the mindset that Shin caused all the problems, he's the issue that needs to change and her changing it good, but going to ultimately make her happy. She was equally to blame for how her marriage turned out probably. I don't know where the marrying for money comes in though.
Part of the reason I just can't ship SJ and Mirae is she's forcing herself to do it instead of just letting it naturally happen. It actually could naturally happen if FMR would let it!
I can get them being different people now since Mirae stood up for herself when FMR stayed at the call center and then depended on Shin, but it's weird she can't even understand herself at all.

I like the vulnerable side of Yookyung. She reminds me of Lee Shiyoung's character in How To Use Guy with Secret Tips. I'm almost sure that Yookyung also watched the videos :D. I also like that she starts attracted to Seju before she knows that he is a chaebol.
Wow, Shin and Mirae are progressing faster than I expected. I love jealous Shin so much! The cosplay scene was random but hilarious. But Isn't Darth Vader's lightsaber should be red? (It's not important, but It's kinda bugging me)
I still don't like the dream thing. It doesn't make sense. I feel the writer just wants to use it as plot device to push Mirae and Shin together, which is not necessary 'cause they already fall for each other even without the dreams.
Future Mirae is not so sharp, after all. Giving stock advice to random people and appear on TV, really? I won't be surprised if her hate to Shin is actually just misunderstanding due to her poor judgement.

It's not that they have memories of the "original" reality. However, it could be linked with the notion of the parallel universes (and the notion that every possible choice and action exists out there in a parallel reality).
We know that future Mirae has broken laws, we also know (this also from future mirae herself) that time will try to "mend" itself; a meeting that is supposed to happen will happen. Ill fate, and undesired fate is still fate.
Thus in my opinion it's more a look into another reality, made through the pattern of fate and action trying to force things back into the "mold" so to speak.

It was explained a little in this ep by Future Mirae that she has broken time rules, maybe thats why only Shin, Mirae seem to dream, remember the other timeline? She did change most their near future, how they met.
Plus that male time traveler, time cop came back and then just after Shin dreamt/remember kissing Mirae in the hospital in the other timeline. Not a coincidence!

I'm aware with the parallel universe (assuming the writer using this theory and it IS the most plausible one right now). What I don't get is how the original universe can 'touch' the new universe in the form of dream. I don't think They have explain it, yet.
And if the writer use parallel universe theory, shouldn't the time cop went back to the time before Future Mirae messed up the car accident? Because theoretically he can't go directly to that time when Shin gets the first dream because it's in new timeline. (Okay, I only learned the parallel universe trough Back to The Future movies).
P.S.: I don't know If you guys understand what I mean. I'm not that fluent in English.

I think its something they need to explain more, better. They are saving it for more dramatic moments, later in the series im sure. You cant explain time travel conflicts that is part of the story conclift that usually a rom-com deal with eps 10-16.
They must explain why only Mirae, Shin remember the other timeline. Will time cop go back as you say to the time before Mirae messed up the accident or stop her from chaing even more this current timeline?

Agree with you, they need to explain it more. Probably they already have better explanation saved for future episodes. But since they haven't showed it yet, right now, I don't like the dream thing.
I'm not expecting detailed time travel explanation a la sci-fi, but I hope if they pick one rule for their drama world, they stick to it and not conveniently changing it just to make the story goes forward. I think Nine and Proposal Daisakusen are good examples for stick-to-the-rule time travel dramas.

the entire story is magical..so the dreams make sense. His spirit knows they are meant to be together. Fate knows it. He has a discomfort that something is wrong. He's a very intuitive guy. The dreams are there to help him.

One subtext of the story seems to be logical planning versus fate versus chance/accident....the mystical subjective left-brin way of life versus the objective rational conscious way.
Present Mirae "plans" to do the water thing and tries all kinds of watery stuff in the car but accidentally --when she is not consciously planning anything...she presses the wrong button and fate seeps in.
Future Mirae has facts, tools, knowledge, all the elements of logical planning on her side. But Shin has his little dictionary and synchronicity and dreams and magic helping him out. In this case, dreams are being used to show that life and life plans cannot be edged in by logic alone. And Shin knows enough to follow non-logical advice or hints that come to him from the universe.
Maybe I'm being blind by seeing the drama like this but I've often found that Life is like that..and when everything is logically stacked and planned tht the universe has way of slipping in a coincidence to accomplish its fted plan. K-dramas honor this power of coincidence, fate, magic, and dreams all the time.
The universe wants what it wants. Time is powerful but as in Queen InHyun's Man, emotions are super-powerful and emotions will work with fate (and all the magical elements of life, including dreams and coi-incidence) to reunite the hero and heroine..in spite of themselves.

I agree with you, the dreams are there to represent what should have happened in the timeline if Future Mirae has not comeback to the past to save her former self. See, it supposed to be Mirae who is in the accident and their romance bloom afterwards. But the timeline has shifted and they are still far apart in terms of feelings. Hence the dreams or what actually should have happened

I'm with you, Rinka, on the dream sequences. They don't make sense to me either considering parallel universes work and all that but I'm willing to be a little patient and see if the show can explain it. For now the show seems more focused on developing feelings between characters which I think is because by the time things are revealed, there will be the whole, "Oh no! But I already love this person!" sorta thing. At least that's what I'm predicting.

I'm hoping the Time Cop (if that's what he is) has something to do with the dreams. He could have tech which corrects timelines by gently nudging people back onto the right path by inducing dreams of how things should have happened.
Noninterference could be the time travelers Prime Directive (Star Wars *and* Star Trek yay) and what future MR is doing breaks all the rules she agreed to when joining the experiment.

- I can't believe I'd simply thought, oh yay nice second lead in Ep 2 and then ugh stupid second lead, fun to hate her I guess in Ep 3 without even considering - oh, she can be a well rounded individual who has reasons for her actions. We're so used to the Bots and 'I've Already Come This Far So I'm Just Going to Completely Ruin Myself' types. :|

It really does show us why they fall in love and get married - his upbringing means he knows when she's being fake, his stint as a lowly vj allows him to understand why she feels like she has to do it, but he also has the power and personality to say - no, you really don't have to. I do that at restaurants 99% of the time, because I'm usually the youngest and/or the girl in the situation. I can totally sympathise, and I'm stunned at the point the writers are making in prime time korean television. Times are a changing, feminism is rising.
- The chemistry is a crackling. We're lulled into a false sense of security, I'm guessing, as we guess older Mirae is really just meddling because of the money. There must be a reason she turned out this way though. I think we're seeing the best in younger Mirae - her standing up and saying she needs no man and she wants to focus on her career without reliance because she was given a chance that she wasn't the first time round? But this doesn't mean older Mirae has become disillusioned for no reason - she was the same person, so what was the reason for such change? The death? The lies? The money? Dun dun dun. I'm hoping it's the same for the male protagonist though - this timeline means he's stepping up more than he did.
- Cannot believe it has such low ratings. Wails. It's perfect.

This episode rocks!Shin is slowly falling for Mi-rae but he is slowly realizing it through his jealousy. I'm shipping Shin now, I thought that he is being mean and cold-hearted towards Mi-rae but man, that guy has a soft spot and bit by bit falling for her. I'm excited for next week. Hope that ratings will go up soon.

I love how everything's progressing so far, and then just to spice it up we get an extra of the love story that could have been in that alternate universe.
Yoo-kyung was getting frustrating as just the stereotypical bimbo, but it's great that they've added another dimension and shown that where she's coming from, so that we can kind of (or at least try to) forgive some of her aeygo. Hope they can build up more on that character arc and keep the plot paced well!!

Yes, I was surprised (but pleased) to see that both the guys see straight through her aegyo act, and that she's so direct about why she does it.
That doesn't make her a "nice" girl, and it doesn't change the fact that she's definitely bitchier towards girls and gets along better with guys - but that makes her a more interesting character for me.
I agree - hope we see more development from her!

Loved the theme of female empowerment. Cut out the aegyo, don't rely on men, and stand on your own two feet. And obviously Mulan is the best princess.
The moments of connection between the fated couples were also played really well, so much so that I almost don't mind if fate wins out or not. Almost - because Shin's jealousy is simply adorable.
I had been really anticipating more of the mysterious time-traveller, so left slightly disappointed on that note. Although Darth Shin did partly make up for it.
On a shallow note, I do not like Present Mi-rae's styling at all. Everyone and their mother has complained about the hair, which I also hate, but I simply cannot get behind her clothes either. So unflattering - especially a floral number with a Peter Pan collar that looked like a child's art smock.
On a plot note, Future Mi-rae looks great - and her designer duds make me seriously doubt that Shin would be financially ruined any time soon. Her excuse that you could get designer clothes in any supermarket was rather unconvincing to me. Instead, she seems to be trying to separate Shin from Mi-rae by getting him fired, using Miranda's belief in fortunetelling to her advantage.
On a purely speculative note, I think Future Mi-rae might be making the ultimate Noble Idiot Sacrifice. Her reaction at Oppa might be a misdirect: he's probably dead in the future but not the one that she's trying to save - I suspect that she's travelled back in time for Shin's sake. Just a feeling, mind you.
To sum up, SQUEE. I am liking this drama so much better than I thought I would. :D

Agree that ahjumma Mirae's next tactic seems to be to use the crazy-egg-throwing Miranda as her next weapon. As a narrative plot device, that's good, since it'll inevitably affect Se-joo as well as Shin (and if she doesn't already know Shin is Miranda's grandson, she'll soon find out).
Apart from that, I'm growing a little tired of her tactics, as some others have commented - she says she's breaking the time travel rules, but she tells Mirae that the person she loves will die - but then she says, "scrap that, it's all a lie" - then she's shocked when Mirae repeats her words to Shin - but then she goes on live broadcast... and how did she get a job at a major broadcasting company without ID? I know we're supposed to feel her desperation, but I'd understand it a whole lot better if they laid down some rules first!
I'm also finding it hard to think of the two Miraes as the one person - present Mirae is so much braver - and also smarter!

Haha, yes I also questioned how FMR got the cleaning job without ID... But then this is drama... :)
And another thing (nothing to do with this ep), I notice in K-dramas, resignation letters are handed in long white envelope, unsealed, and the workers who quit don't need to give advanced notice. They can just leave like that, there and then... Not sure if this is a K-drama thing or actual Korean culture...

Normally I don't ship for second leads but I did at the beginning of the drama. I liked See Jo with Mirae instead of rude Shin.
However, now that the sparks are flying between the main couple, I've got to admit the on screen chemistry between Lee Dong Gun and Yoon Eun Hye is amazing...sizzling in fact. I'm so feeling their attraction that I'm leaning towards their relationship.
Besides, if we take into consideration the part where Mirae and See Jo were having lunch at the outdoor cafeteria, when Mirae was being kind of belligerent towards the passersby, See Jo was appalled and showed his temper. For me, it's sort of a sign that they may not be so compatible. Where as with Shin, since he sprouts profanities at a drop of a hat, he'll probably be more accepting.
All in all, I totally enjoyed this episode. Hilarious and heart warming. Gauging from the preview, it does seem promising. Can't wait! :)

Oh, I also noticed when Seju shout at Mirae.
I feel bad for Seju because he is the one whose feeling is the most affected by meddling ahjumma. Other leads already started to fall for their respective fated one, but he's the only one who fall for wrong girl.
I do hope he will lose Mirae because his feeling towards her slowly disappear and not because he lost to Shin. Please, Show, don't give our Seju a heartbreak!

Honestly I feel his feelings are kind of shallow. The whole love at first sight thing isn't appealing. He likes her, but he'll get over it. Who he'll actually get to know and love is YK. They have a really nice attraction and budding relationship. I'm really surprised people are still going on about second lead syndrome when Seju is moving on to his own story and romance and won't be stuck as a pointless character only there to get turned down by the lead female.

Those 2 scenes: first when he kindly and warmly told the second female lead while holding her wrist is very telling of how he could fall for her, and second scenne when he lost his patience with Mirae is a very clear indication that he really feels nothing for her deep down inside.
I think fate will win in the end.

What is up with the ratings!? This drama is beyond amazing. This episode was not only hilarious and adorable but so feminist I loved it. From Se Joo saying how women shouldn't have to degrade themselves to get ahead in their career and should be treated like people, to Shin saying Mulan is the best character because she saved a country while the other princesses wouldn't have a story without the prince figure, to Mi Rae telling her future self that she does not want to live a life dependent on men and wants to stand proud on her own. Have never seen this much female positivity in a kdrama before!
Also I personally like Ahjumma Mi Rae. Clearly she meddles and keeps trying to get Mi Rae to follow the path she has set out, but it's not like Mi Rae listens, so Ahjumma does more good than harm. I have found all of her scenes really interesting and intriguing, I never know what she'll do next, and I think this is a great aspect of the series. Also she is a different Mi Rae from the young one and I can understand her not understanding Mi Rae's career ambitions. Remember when she met Mi Rae and she was all "I just want to have fun!" and living pretty aimlessly. That was what Ahjumma was like at that age, and she just went on to marry Shin and be completely dependent on him without ever having a taste of the career she wanted. She literally slaps her younger self out of being aimless, and Mi Rae gets a taste of broadcasting and finds passion in her career which awakens within her this ambition and desire for independent prestige. Future Mi Rae never had that taste of fulfilling work, so that desire was never awakened within her. She's just that aimless Mi Rae grown up, without passion for work who thus believes marrying a chaebol is the best way to secure a happy life. It's going to be hard to make her come around for she has given this plan a lot of thought and risk, and what in her mind is the only surefire way keeps being protested to by Mi Rae which I understand from her point of view must be very aggravating.
Also I do believe there is a higher purpose to her return than just Shin being poor. She clearly loved him, but the situation he put her in was so much to bear she saw the only solution as erasing him from her memory? That's pretty drastic stuff. Like she was married to him for years. I'm sure whatever happened was pretty terrible. Although at this point I am wondering why she didn't just come back to warn him not to do what he does and help in other ways so that they can live a happy future life together instead of wanting to erase him completely. Maybe he personally did something horrible and it is inevitable he will do it again? (OR the person he killed was himself from like an illness and she was heartbroken and doesn't want to live that futile life with the unhappy end? Seems a bit far fetched looking at all the stuff she's said but still plausible). I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.
I just realised it's only episode 4! So much has happened! These episodes are really packed but in the best possible way. Just the right amount fast-paced. Quite a contrast to the slow pace of certain other dramas airing at the moment...

Well said, Len! I completely agree that this was such a feminist episode (it rocks!). And great food for thought--that because of future Mi-rae's meddling, she changes present Mi-rae's aimlessness to one of passion and focus. So with each episode, I'm starting to see them more as two different people, and not just present and future versions of themselves.

I was still on the fence with this drama last episode but now I think I'm fully into it. For one, I'm totally enjoying LDG's and YEH's chemistry. They cracked me up with the "I am your father!" and "I am your mother!" lines. Shin is also adorable when he calls Mirae a Mulan dressed like Cinderella and then defending that Mulan was a woman who didn't need to rely on any guy. It's like he sees her as the strong independent type she is.
Meanwhile, I've given up trying to figure out what makes Ajhumma Mirae tick. She seems so different from the Present Mirae that I can't even make proper predictions based on the two characters. Mirae is so strong personality-wise and seems capable of managing things...yet Ajhumma Mirae is all about marrying a rich guy (which is really no better than the 2nd lead's aegyoing) and witholding things from her past self. I mean, why would anyone be mysterious to themselves especially if she wants to make ler life better? Out with the secrets, lady! Your meddling for no apparent reason irks me, lol.
Aside from that, I'm liking the 2nd female lead. She's very well-rounded as a character and hilariously petty (when she was whacking Mirae). It makes me love Han Chae-ah even more.

second lead is coming around, mercifully. Right now I'd like to see Shin's family...if he has anyone anywhere whom he might call family. I know his dad died but... Also waiting to see aegyo girl' family's well.
This is one of those hang out dramas where you want all the leads to end up as BFF's FOREVER!!!!!! That just might happen. Maybe chaebol will become friends with Mirae (in the alternate timeline this wasn't a possibility) and he can help Shin in the future. For Mirae's sake.

Cuz the present mirae seems so much more of principles and making it on her own. they're afterall the same person. so what's going on? I figured out a way to cure my second lead syndrome. Watch old videos of yong hwa when he looked like a skinny high school boy. Dont look at photos of him in this drama because he looks amazing and like a man (did he beef up a bit especially for this drama??). And this episode convinced me to wait until all of the episodes are over before i watch it again. Have fun everybody!

I love YEH! I don't care what her hair is like, she has that inner beauty that attracts me. I don't understand Korean so I rely on the English subtitiles. But I always have the sound on because I love the way YEH deliver her lines. If we accepted her hair in Coffee Prince as a guy, we should definitely accept her hair in this show. That is my opinion. The real YEH is only 29, so she has to act older to be the 32-year old.

I'll marry Shin if Mirae doesn't want him. They are just too wonderful together. Such fantastic chemistry and both YEH and LDG have such great comedic timing. I just love watching them.
The scene at the end was amazing even if the whole story about the firings made no sense what so ever (doesn't granny have shareholders she has to answer to or something. Or actual advisors? ) But Shin's so sexy when he's owning annoying granny.
I don't really think YK is easy to hate at all. I actually find her much more interesting (so far) than Mirae. She's a smart accomplished woman, but she's still expected to act cutesy and bow down to the men in the business. It's quite sad, but pretty much the norm. I wasn't expecting that to actually be the reason she acts like she does. I also find her mostly harmless and a lot amusing. She also has great chemistry with Seju. They bring out interesting sides to each other.
Future Mirae... I just can't figure out. She looked really vindictive at the end of the episode. Not as if she was telling the future, but that she was hoping it would be true and is happy to tell him about his life falling apart.
Also, LOVE how Mirae finally said she doesn't need a man. FMR should have first and foremost tried to improve MR's life through improving herself and not just went to go find a rich man.
And I agree with Shin, Mulan rules.

It is a veeerrry sloooow burn for me with this show. But finally after ep 4, I am starting to like it. Past/Present Mi Rae is likeable and relatable. But Future Mi Rae drives me nuts! I guess whatever happened in the future was grave enough to make her want to change her past, but at present, Mi Rae seems to be on the right track to finding herself. She knows she needs to be confident on her own without needing a man. She wants to succeed as a writer with integrity. I can't help but think, "Ahjumma, don't you know that money and status isn't every thing in life?"
Also...I find myself constantly needing to get my head on straight because Shin looks so much like Se Joo and YEH looks so much like (to me anyway) Park Shin Hye. Which character is this again, and what drama am I watching again? Maybe, I just need a drink to clear my head!

I'm sad and concerned about the ratings, because I fear they would want to change aspects of the drama to increase the ratings. I hope its not the case and they keep the drama as the writer picture it.
Maybe Im wrong but I have the feeling that he/she already planned the way things are going to resolve and the end. I like my heroine like this. Well I like all the characters. I dont hate Yoo-kyung, she amuses me, I just dont like the plans she has, but for now, she is so much fun to watch. I dont notice the aegyo that much in her voice, just in the actions. But yeah she can stop doing that.
Shin in a Darth Vader costume is GREAT.

MHIYD is going to end up being those shows that deserve better ratings. TBH it's the show that gets me excited each week amidst all other shows (i wouldn't have thought).
This poor writer gives out great/fun material but always ends up with decent so-so ratings.

Totally agree on the lighting. I was wondering why yoon eun hye looked paler than usual, but the horrible lighting is the most obvious on Lee Dong Gun's face, where he looks really washed out to the point where his normally black eyelashes turn a blondish color.
Still very handsome though.

I watched his last drama When It's At Night/Night After Night (despite the terrible name) since both KSA and LDG (two of my faves) are in it. It didn't do great in the ratings department either, so I hoped this one would have the magic ingredients ... Fingers crossed!

I still think that Shin's the one dying and because Ajumma Mi-rae loves him, she comes back to prevent the marriage because that somehow killed him...

Another great recap, thanks. I really liked this episode for the way it advanced the story, but it also solidified my contempt and distaste for Evil Hag Ahjumma, aka The Wicked Witch of the When. When present Mi Rae smacked her down for building an entire life plan around hanging off a man, I practically shouted with glee, and her own gloating delight at prophesying Kim Shin's demise on air confirmed my opinion that when you said "note suggests some pretty severe punishments if Future Mi-rae gets caught" my sentiment is I.HOPE.SO - To date she has been nothing but selfish, manipulative and deceitful, caring not at all about present Mi Rae or anybody else, except for Oppa, it seems. I hope that the writers either (A) make me start caring about her, as they're doing with Yoo Kyung or (B) she gets her comeuppance big time. Right now, my preference is for option B - by a long way.

I'm glad people are bringing up the feminism in this drama. It's really showing that this drama has a female writer and director. I absolutely LOVED the restaurant scene between seju and yookyung. I'm glad they showed why yookyung acts the way she does.
I hope people will move on from petty shipping wars and appreciate the drama for what it is.

She clings to her powerful chairwoman "front", just as Yoo-kyung does with her "aegyo" role - it will be interesting to see how her character grows (it looks like she'll develop a relationship with present Mirae), and why she's so dependent on shamans and gurus, etc.

You know, I like this drama, but something has been bothering me - and I do think after the reading it's how unlike future Mirae is from Mirae. I hope this is explained fairly soon or else it will drive me crazy.

Seriously. At first, I think we were supposed to find it funny how different they are, but I think the show should mess around with some of their similarities. Like having some go-to phrase that they always say or ya know a few quirks in character that come through at certain moments. Some sign that they are in fact the same person.
The show makes it seem like they're so different to the point where you're almost sad because you don't want Mi-Rae to end up like that.
Here's what I'm hoping: that Future Mi-Rae, after blaming all her problems on Kim Shin and her marriage choices, realizes that perhaps Kim Shin was not the only one who changed for the worse and that what she needs to do is help both Kim Shin and Mi-Rae succeed so they can better support each other the second time around. I know thats probably too simple, but I honestly just want this to end with a reversal where Present Mi-Rae finds out about her future and distances herself from Kim Shin so that it's Future Mi-Rae who decides to try and get them together again. That would be awesome.

There is one quirk that I saw both of them share. It was when Present Mirae came home one day and was spazzing out nervously with her hands and feet, and then Future Mirae came into the living room and started spazzing with her while asking if something was wrong. I think it was somewhere in the first or second episode. I'm sorry, if I find out when that scene played, I'll post a comment underneath this one so it doesn't seem so vague.

Aww I love this show so much. Lee Dong Gun and Yoon Eun Hye are so cute!
It does make it really hard to handle Future Mi-Rae and her antics. I'm just so worried because the writer has to accomplish a very tricky thing here. She has to come up with a future that was bad enough for us to understand why Mi-Rae changed so much and had to go to such drastic measures in order to get a better life. Otherwise, I'll be annoyed with her.
But she has to accomplish that while making it not be something so bad that we actually agree with her decision to stop her past self from marrying Kim Shin. And I won't be satisfied if its something where Kim Shin just falls apart and disappoints her, because then I would have wanted her to help HIM too and not just herself. It honestly has to be something where something about their marriage in particular causes him to fail. That way what she is doing isn't just for her. It makes me think less of her love for him when I consider the fact that future Mi-Rae not only doesn't seem to care that he gets destroyed, but also throws it in his face on live tv. If you ever truly loved someone you wouldn't do that.

I have a suspicion that the person that Shin 'kills' that Mi-Rae lives may be their child. It may be linked to a similar situation like the death of his father - like they could have had their bills paid but for his pride.
I really do not think it is Se-Joo.

I've seen this mentioned, but why in the world when FMR erase the child's existence by marrying someone else instead of loading up Shin and Mirae with money so they could pay for anything by giving them stock advice or something? I just don't think money is the main issue here.
