Lee Seon-kyun to romance Miss Korea

Ha, well this PD-writer team is nothing if not consistent. The writer of Pasta and the director of Golden Time and Pasta are coming back with the new rom-com Miss Korea for MBC this winter, and they’ve called their favorite leading man Lee Seon-kyun up for a reunion tour. He’ll be joining Miss-Korea-to-be Lee Yeon-hee (Gu Family Book) and his Pasta/Golden Time cohort Lee Sung-min in the drama about turning a small town girl into a beauty queen.

The new Wednesday-Thursday drama is about a group of neighborhood ajusshis who band together for the bizarre mission to turn a young lady from their hometown into the next Miss Korea. Besides the fact that Lee Seon-kyun is just this producing team’s go-to lead anyway (and for good reason, obviously), he also straddles the oppa/ajusshi divide rather perfectly, if they need him to be one of the pageant-prepping ajusshis while still being appealing as a romantic lead. Grumpy he is. Frumpy he is not.

Well at least I know exactly what this drama is going to be now. Once you cast The Voice, it’s pretty much Yes, Ajusshi! = Yes, Chef! and beauty pageant waves as linguine and clams, yeah? Granted, there’s no explanation of why these ajusshis are all militant about turning their young neighbor girl into Miss Korea, but sense wasn’t really Pasta’s strong suit either. Just sayin’. The chemistry is what carried that show, so we’ll have to wait and see if the future Miss Korea and her shouty fairy godmother have any sparks to speak of.

Miss Korea follows Medical Top Team and premieres in December.

This will be 3rd collaboration of PD Kwon Seok-Jang, Lee Sun-Kyun, Lee Sungmin. Their previous dramas are Pasta and Golden time which well received in S.Korea. I know what SM's purpose produce Miss Korea with Lee Yeon-hee from SM agency, they will make Lee Yeon-hee turn like Gong hyo-jin (Queen of romcom) in pasta and Hwang jungeum (idol turn actress) in Golden Time. I wonder Miss Korea will hit like Pasta and Golden time because the leading actresss is Lee Yeon-hee

Lee Yeon Hee isn't as liked in Korea compared to Gong Hyo-Jin and Hwang Jung-eum. A lot of people dislike her and she is known for her poor acting skills. LYH also had a scandal this year for being rude & showing disrespect to her fellow Gu Family Book castmates and crew during the script reading. GHJ and HJE were never involved in serious scandals like that.

Oh and the last time LYH was the lead actress in a drama (Paradise Ranch) it flopped completely. The ratings were horrible as well as reviews.

I'm sad that Lee Seon kyun is in this mess, he deserves to act along side a better lead actress.

She was lead actress in Ghost and it did respectably in ratings...

And her scandal was appearing not to clap for people talking in a few still pictures from a meeting. Seemed like making a mountain out a molehill to me.

Ghost did well because of So Ji Sub. Netizens thought lyh was miscast because she looked too young for her role and they couldn't take her seriously in that part and of course her bad acting is always a complaint

the scandal may have not seemed like a big deal to you but it was still very disrespectful and it wasnt just a "few still pictures from a meeting" a video of that meeting was also released and her rude behavior is obvious

In Korea, everyone was complaining about her inadequacy in Ghost from what I remember. I think by now, with all the big projects she's been in and the years she has been in, she should show some improvement from her first project. But she's always flat and the same, imo. There are actors who, sure, are terrible at first, but they grow. I don't think Lee Yeon Hee is like that.........

I heard Lee Beomsoo is great instructor for acting, Ha jungwoo have learned acting from him " Before entering college, Jung-woo enrolled at a private acting institute and at one point had actor Lee Beom-Su as his instructor" and jung ryeowon's acting seems better after she had pairing with LBS in history of salaryman. Maybe yoona's acting skill will improve after working with LBS. Who knows?

It's a waste really. Lee Bum Soo seems to be purposely putting himself in a losing streak after he finished filming History of a Salaryman. I know that actors can't be in award winning, gripping projects all the time but with LBS it's back to back to back, it's frustrating because I'm a fan and I want to like him in something again.

well good luck to lee bum soo and lee seon kyun anyways because with these dramas god knows they all the luck in the world lol

I know! That would have been great even though GHJ's real age would probably make her too old to compete in Miss Korea. But their chemistry in Pasta was SOOOOO cute!

Whatever happens, I just hope we see some passion. No more lukewarm concept couples (i.e. let's stick two character types together to make a point), please! Watching Secret today made me realize how viscerally thrilling well done romances can be.

Though I liked Pasta, it did have some issues with how the female lead was portrayed somewhat as a kitchen slave instead of a real chef. I hope the female lead here does not end up as just some silly pawn in the pageant game.

Just my 2 cents re: Pasta: I'm a chef (and female), and her portrayal in Pasta was pretty realistic. You're never a real "chef" until you make it up the ranks, and she was essentially the maknae line cook- so all the crappy work fell to her. In American kitchens it's pretty similar, it's not that easy to move up staying in the same kitchen when others have seniority- that's why we tend to change restaurants frequently

I hope this dont turn in to another Pasta. The amount of screaming made me leave that drama half way and there was no story there for me to stay, despite my like for the leads (but really, the screaming was TO much)
I really really like him and this sounds fun. Im not expecting a lot, just a fun and light drama. If he is on board, count me in.

I watched Pasta more for the food porn than anything else. The story itself had a few problems. As far as all the screaming, I think they were trying to get that "Chef Ramsey Effect", and it did not work well.

Oh, my hubby is back! I love him so much. This show already seemed like a fun concept but now I'm actually excited for it.

Is Gong Yoo still rumored to be involved in this drama? Because, if so we get a Coffee Prince Reunion as well! The only two men in Dramaland who I'm dying to call Oppa... together again on my screen. Pinch me.

Mr. Sexy LSK is known around here by THE VOICE as he has the most alluring, sexy, warm and every other awesome adjective there is.

I don't know about super smexy, but he has a very deep resonant voice. It worked well in Coffee Prince and worked really well as Chef Choi in Pasta, which I adored. I didn't worry about the sense of the show, I just enjoyed it immensely. I loved Gong Hyo Jin's father on the show always calling her up and asking her "did you get fired yet?"

Well, I have no problem about him being cast as the male lead. Always loved his acting. On the other hand, I am wary of watching anything with Lee Yeon-hee. Yes she is a natural beauty, but her acting is just sub-par.... just look at her previous dramas.

I am sooo looking forward to December already. I just enjoy watching Lee Seon-kyun turn a character into someone so interesting and unforgettable. I can even close my eyes while he is doing his dialogue and just be carried away by his voice to the land of make believe.
