Heirs: Episode 7
by javabeans
We get a glimpse into the past discord between our former BFFs, although we’re left with more questions than answers. It’s nice to see our hero being drawn out of his introverted shell by degrees, despite the sense I get that he’d prefer to stay in it for as long as possible, going unnoticed if at all possible. Well, as unnoticed as the famous, hottie future heir to a national conglomerate can hope to go, that is. Invisibility hardly comes with the territory.

EPISODE 7 RECAP
Outside the neighborhood convenience store, Eun-sang pretends to sleep while Young-do sits at her table and tries to wake her up. “Why do you always sleep in these kind of places?” he wonders. “It makes me want to protect you.”
Tan calls from across the street, and they have a bit of a stare-off until Young-do tells Eun-sang to give up her sleeping act. He assumes that Tan is here for Eun-sang, but Tan scoffs at that, saying that he doesn’t care what they do. Telling Young-do to save his bad behavior for his own neighborhood, Tan leaves.
Young-do tells Eun-sang to run along after Tan, still convinced they’re here to see each other. She retorts that he’s wrong and leaves him to his ramyun.
Tan’s show of indifference is just for Young-do’s benefit, and the moment she enters the courtyard he pops up to grill her—shouldn’t she be more careful of where she sleeps? Why was she with Young-do? He’d warned her against him, and asks if Young-do did any threatening. Eun-sang replies that he said he wanted to protect her, and Tan bursts out, “That’s a threat!”
She asks what happened between them, and he sighs, “I don’t remember. All I know is we hate each other now.”
She makes it a point to enter the house separately, but Tan rather enjoys popping into the kitchen to interrupt the conversation between her and his mother. She plays it off like this is their first encounter, and Madam Han makes the introductions.
After Tan exits, Madam Han enlists Eun-sang as her spy to report back on Tan’s doings at school, though she’s quick to warn Eun-sang to remember her place—they may be living in the same house and going to the same school, but in no way are they on the same level. Tan overhears from the hallway with dismay as his mother basically tells Eun-sang she’s the servant and he’s the young lord.
Eun-sang finds a brand-new Jeguk High uniform hanging in the room, and freaks out to hear that her mother bought it. Mom assures her that she can handle the cost, and Eun-sang lights up in gratitude.
Rachel flips her lid, as usual, at another attempt by her mother to solidify the new family relationships—this time it’s a family photo with Young-do’s side. She snaps at her mother to have fun taking photos without her, then storms off to confront Young-do about it, finding him post-judo practice. (Is it a written into the contract that one scene per episode must feature somebody taking conspicuous swigs of that energy drink? For all the exposure it’s getting, they could’ve at least tried to write it in, a la Vitamin Water.)
Rachel is dead-set on finding some way to break up their parents’ engagement, impatiently brushing aside his quip to date him (“I said their engagement, not mine”). He offers that while he doesn’t have a plan for wrecking the engagement, he can stop the photo shoot from happening, and that grabs her interest. He demands a quid pro quo, though—nothing comes free.
At the crack of dawn, Eun-sang emerges from the house to find Tan haunting the gate waiting for her—he’d wondered how early she was leaving to avoid him, and waited extra-early to find out. It’s his driver’s day off so he’s called a taxi, and insists she ride with him.
During the ride, Tan instructs her on what to report back to his mother: “The kids all like him, because he’s good-looking. He studies well too, because he’s good-looking.” Psh. He notes how quick she was to agree to play spy, and she points out that she isn’t at liberty to refuse anything in his house.
Eun-sang explains her early departure as only be partially related to avoiding him, so he asks about the other reasons. Her thoughts flash to the parade of chauffeured cars dropping off kids at school, but she merely answers that she’s avoiding traffic. He overrides her choice to get dropped off at a distance from school, saying that nobody will be there at school this early to see them arriving together, which seems to me the opposite of what’s bound to happen.
When she tries to protest, he distracts her with the ol’ “What’s that?” ruse, then rests his head on her shoulder before she can do anything about it. He really can be adorable when he’s being boyish and sweet, rather than so broody and introspective. “Let’s go together,” he says, adding, “The uniform looks good on you.” Which is both flattering and meaningful, since the word for “it looks good” also means “it suits you”—as in, she belongs in those clothes, just like the rest.
On campus, they walk in separately, though Tan follows behind her at a steady pace while she remains acutely aware of his presence the whole time. Staring at the back of her head, he frowns and speeds up, pulling the ponytail tie out of her hair. He teases by mussing the rest of her hair and saying she looks prettier with more of her face covered, which is when they’re interrupted by the arrival of Myung-soo, here at school direct from yet another night clubbing.
Myung-soo wonders why they’re together but thankfully isn’t particularly interested in pressing for answers. He thinks vaguely that Eun-sang looks familiar, but gets distracted from following that thought either.
Madam Han’s sister (or possibly close friend) drops by the house for a visit, and Madam Han once again drops back to her native saturi accent. It’s a comic gag, seeing two luxuriously dressed ladies gabbing about like bumpkin ajummas, which is exactly the point.
Madam Han’s plan to find some dirt on second wife Madam Jung has so far been unfruitful; her guy has only gotten photos of her in the most mundane activities. Nothing scandalous or incriminating at all. And it’s equally unlikely they’ll be able to dig up anything on Won.
Just then, the ladies jump to see Mom in the room, quietly going about her cleaning duties. Ha, they really are lucky she isn’t more malicious, because they’re just incriminating themselves left and right. Madam Han decides she’ll have to check one more time to make sure that Mom really can’t speak, and tries sneaking up on her in the kitchen… only to be foiled by her own reflection in the refrigerator door. She is so terrible at being crafty, I love it.
She decides she doesn’t need to know the particulars of Mom’s condition and tries one more time to sneak-scare her (into yelling, I presume), which falls hilariously flat. We get a glimpse at Mom’s notepad, which tells us she lost her ability to speak at the age of three, after falling victim to a fever.
Eun-sang interviews with Hyo-shin for the broadcasting club opening, though he points out that she no longer needs to buy a uniform (the accompanying scholarship was her original motivation). She admits to lying (“It sounded like it,” Hyo-shin says) and talks herself up, though he doesn’t seem swayed.
When Bo-na sees Eun-sang, she votes against her admission since she doesn’t want her boyfriend’s best friend hanging around (amusingly, Hyo-shin almost seems like that’s enough for him to say yes)… until one of Hyo-shin’s groupies comes by for an interview and Bo-na declares the slot filled. Eun-sang it is! Lesser of two evils, and all that.
Eun-sang ties up her hair in a ponytail as she walks, only to have Tan come up from behind and swipe her hair tie again. Ha. He is literally a boy pulling the ponytail of the girl he likes. Eun-sang catches Young-do watching from a distance, looking a lot more upset by the sight than he has any right to be.
Bo-na mishears a word for Tan’s name, proving again that she’s got a fixation on him despite all her insistence to the contrary. Chan-young asks about her dating him, and she declares that all they did was hold hands, which he jokingly says upsets him. He asks Bo-na to keep Eun-sang’s personal circumstances secret, but she huffily refuses to make the promise.
Chan-young finds Tan staring at the wall of photos in the lounge, in particular the one of him and Young-do looking like best friends. Tan asks about Chan-young’s relationship with Eun-sang and if they’ve ever had any romantic feelings between them, and states frankly that his own position is “a step right before confession.” Chan-young describes liking Eun-sang when he was nine; he was a small kid and Eun-sang would fight the kids who picked on him.
That seems to relieve Tan, and when asked about holding hands with Bo-na, he quips that it was only because his hands were cold then.
Won drops by to meet his father, stating his intention to live on his own. Until now it was a temporary situation, but now he’s decided there’s no place for him to return to here. Chairman Dad tsk-tsks that he thought Won would handle this with intelligence and class, to which Won points out that Dad’s move of bringing Tan to the company was hardly those things.
He says he knows he has more to lose than to gain, “But it’s not like I have nothing to gain. Somebody will end up hurt. And that somebody’s pain will be a comfort to me, Father.” Such a bleak outlook. He adds that if he must lose things, well, so be it.
Won packs his things, and Tan finds him in his room, all lit up with the hope that hyung is moving back in. Won is quick to push little bro away, saying that only real families should live together. Tan asks, hurt, how his brother can just move out because he moved in. Won retorts that it’s Tan who’s chasing him around like a little kid: “If you keep it up, I have nowhere to escape to. You ask how I can do this to you? But you don’t think of how you’re the one stealing away places from me? Or will I have to go to America this time?” Telling Tan to grow up, he leaves.
Won heads to the wine cellar to pack a few bottles, and Tan follows him there to apologize for everything—for going to the hotel, for coming back to Korea. He says he understands hyung’s feelings, which makes Won bristle at the presumption. Won derides, “You have enough courage to come back, but not to fight? How dare you—”
And then Tan hugs him. Aww. “I won’t fight with you,” he says. “It’s obvious I’d lose. How could I win a fight I don’t mean?” Once again, Won cuts his brother off mid-sentence and leaves.
Tan hangs out in front of the house, on hand again to startle Eun-sang upon her arrival. She starts out talking stiffly in jondae (using his mother as an excuse), but he orders her to return his dreamcatcher and meet him in the wine cellar.
He gets there first, and sets a song to play—the one she’d played the other day. Eun-sang shows up to return the dreamcatcher and starts to go, but he suggests she stay for the rest of the song, which is the flimsiest excuse if I’ve ever heard one. But it works, and she confides that she likes the song, which was liked by “the person I liked like crazy.” Immediately he gets into jealous mode and quizzes her, then grins when she points out that she never said it was a guy. (It’s her sister.)
They settle into a pleasant conversation (for once), where he asks how it feels being back in the Korea she’d wanted to leave. She says that it’s more or less the same, work-work-working all the time, though thanks to him and her school situation she’s a little bit more unhappy. She asks what it feels like being born into the Jeguk Group family, and he paraphrases Hong Gil-dong to say that he can’t call his mother his mother, or his brother his brother.
He starts to ask her a question, but she deflects, saying that all his questions have been dangerous. With that, she leaves, though she spends the rest of the evening thinking back to conversations with Tan, like him saying he might like her.
The next morning at school, a crowd of annoyed students crowds around the doorway of a classroom, being held out by two guys who stand guard. Bo-na pushes her way through and finds Young-do looming over Eun-sang menacingly, saying he needs to have a little chat with Nouveau Riche here.
He grabs Eun-sang’s bag and upends the contents all over the floor, then grabs Bo-na’s bag and does the same. Lying on the ground is a stark contrast between luxury and thrift, heiress and commoner. He insinuates that she’s a charity case impersonating a rich person, which would be an affront to all the rest of them. He asks Bo-na what Eun-sang’s deal is, and to her credit she doesn’t blab, despite her comment earlier about not feeling any need to keep quiet.
What kind of backup does she have that makes her so confident, Young-do wonders. On cue, Chan-young pushes through the crowd, and Young-do scoffs that Eun-sang sure has a lot of black knights rushing to her aid: “It makes me feel competitive.” It gets him to back off, though, and he leaves the room as the students trickle in. Chan-young thanks Bo-na for not talking, though she’s annoyed enough to snap at him.
One of the students takes the gossip to the class next door, where Tan and Rachel both look up to hear about Young-do’s behavior. Tan bolts up to do something about it, but the teacher arrives and calls class to order, and he sits back down.
He spends all of class fidgety and distracted, and goes in search of Eun-sang as soon as it’s over.
A crowd gathers at the lockers as the timid bullying victim, Joon-young, holds out a piece of paper to Young-do. Crap, did Young-do actually sue his victim for assault? You are such an asshole.
Joon-young asks Young-do to rescind the suit, and Young-do just laughs. Eun-sang watches with the utmost sympathy while Joon-young begs, asking what he can do to get Young-do tp take it back. Young-do offers no guarantee, but suggests that a proper kneeling might get him to change his mind.
So Joon-young gets on his knees and Eun-sang flinches to see it. On one hand I sorta want her to step in, but on the other she was recently Young-do’s victim too so she’s in zero position to help.
Into the mix comes Tan, who shakes his head at the scene and orders Joon-young to get up. But Joon-young finds nothing generous in the gesture and says he’s as much of a bastard as Young-do is, telling him to butt out. Tan asks his usual question, “Did I used to bully you in the past?”—and Joon-young bites out, “At least Young-do remembered.” Burn.
“I’m sorry,” Tan says. “I’ll repay you this way.” And THWACK. He slugs Young-do in the face. It’s the thought that counts, I’m sure, though surely somebody must note the irony of apologizing for violence, then making amends for it with more violence?
“Since I’ve hit you too,” Tan says, “make me kneel too.” Young-do approaches with a murderous glint in his eye, only to have a teacher break up the scene.
The boys are brought before Madam Jung, who’s the school board director, and Young-do puts on his choirboy facade, saying that friends sometimes fight, “But it hurts my feelings.” Madam Jung scolds Tan for causing trouble and telling him to transfer if he keeps this up.
Young-do assures her that it’s no big deal, but he likes this idea of sending Tan to another school and tells him to think it over. Tan retorts that it’s the one who’s more embarrassed who should be the transferee, and Young-do chides Tan for disregarding his mother’s advice just because she’s not his bio-mom.
As the boys go their separate ways, we’re taken to a flashback of their middle school days, when Young-do had been avoiding Tan and Tan had confronted him about it.
Younger Tan asks if this is because of what they’d seen the other day, and if Young-do is feeling embarrassed over it. Young-do grabs him threateningly, but Tan says, “That’s not something to be embarrassed about, it’s just something that hurts.” And that’s when Tan confides one such thing of his own, that his mother isn’t his birth mom.
Tan says this as a way of connecting with his buddy, only to have Young-do spit out, “You’re illegitimate? So if a baby is born between my dad and that woman we saw him with, it’ll be a bastard like you.” Geezus. And I’m supposed to find Young-do the least bit appealing?
The fight is the big gossip item of the day, and Bo-na exults in Young-do’s payback while her friends argue that Young-do was the victim this time, saying that perchance her old affection for Tan is putting her on his side. She scoffs at that, then confronts Rachel about blabbing to Chan-young about her dating history. The two girls trade barbs about the usual—mind your own business, no mind yours—and stalk off huffily.
Rachel’s mother picks her up from school and hears about the fight. Ever one to rub it in, Rachel uses it to point out that Young-do and his father are alike in their ill-mannered tendencies. Rachel’s mother heads to the hotel to ask for Young-do, and while she’s at it she asks for Won’s secretary’s number. Ha, I’m surprised she doesn’t already it; what kind of lame secret affair are you having without his number?
She calls Manager Yoon straightaway, pouting a little that she had to call first. He says he was just giving her time to think things over, and Chairman Dad surmises from his end of the conversation that he’s dating. Manager Yoon doesn’t say with whom, though coincidentally enough, his report is all about Rachel’s mother—specifically, her stake in Jeguk Group and Zeus Hotel, and how much stock she’ll hold upon her marriage with the Zeus president.
At school, Eun-sang ignores a call from someone she’s named “Don’t Pick Up,” but the caller is persistent and she reluctantly answers. It’s Young-do, inviting her to share some jajangmyun he wants delivered, which she flatly refuses. But he says she’ll change her mind once Joon-young talks to her—he’d told him he’d “consider” canceling the lawsuit if he got Eun-sang to come to him.
Eun-sang fumes, but shows up as coerced. She demands to know why he’s playing around with her and Joon-young, dangling that damned lawsuit as bait when he has no intention of canceling it. He counters that he will cancel it now that she’s come, using an overly flowery phrase to mock-marvel at how her presence changed his heart, which pisses her off even more—stop fooling around. He asks, “Does everything I do seem like a joke?” Well, yes, that’s your entire M.O. Laugh at everything, be hurt by nothing, isn’t that it?
Rachel shows up at Young-do’s door, peeved at her ignored calls and his continued inaction on the part of Operation Cancel Photo Shoot. He says he’s dining with an important guest, and she pushes her way in to see for herself. You know, I almost feel bad for Rachel for being thwarted by Eun-sang yet again, but it’s sort of funny to watch her head explode every time.
But as always, Rachel undoes any ounce of sympathy she manages to shore up by reacting immediately like a brat: She calls Tan to chirp that Eun-sang is enjoying a cozy dinner in Young-do’s suite.
Eun-sang excuses herself, and I’d almost think Young-do feels a little bit abandoned, if only for the fact that I remain unconvinced he has feelings.
Tan calls Eun-sang repeatedly, only to have his calls go unanswered. He heads out right away and finds, with some relief, that she’s busy at work closing up shop at the cafe. He drags her outside and takes her to task for going to Young-do’s hotel. She points out that she stayed with him when he could have been some druggie, and he takes that as proof of her foolishness—she shouldn’t have, because he could’ve been dangerous.
“But you’re not that kind of person,” she says. She tells him about the lawsuit bait, and how she had to try to help even if Young-do doesn’t drop the suit. She points out that Young-do’s picking on her because of Tan, and he exclaims, “That’s why I’m telling you to be careful! I don’t want something to happen to you because of me!”
He asks her to not do anything and not worry him, and she flings that back at him—can’t he leave her alone? It’s hard enough for her just to keep hanging in there, but she’s got Young-do breathing down her neck and Tan upsetting her at every turn, and she doesn’t know what to do.
Tan offers her a solution: “Leave my house tomorrow. Or can you not do that? Do you want to keep going to school? Then like me—if possible, for real. I like you.”
COMMENTS
This may be an unpopular opinion, but one of my blocks with this show is the character of Young-do—I just can’t stand him. This isn’t a case of a character being charming despite his asshole tendencies, or feeling conflicted about liking a guy who does so many reprehensible things. Rather, I flat-out have zero patience for him or his shit-stirring ways, and find nothing sympathetic or magnetic about him whatsoever. He’s written like the classic arrogant alpha hero (the kind who harbors inner pain and is brought to his knees by love and transforms and shows his true puppy underbelly, blah blah blaaahhhh), only for whatever reason I just want him off my screen.
It has nothing to do with the acting, because Kim Woo-bin has great sardonic delivery and he’s perfect with the deadpan bon mots, the turn-on-a-dime personality that’s equal parts charismatic and menacing. But Kim Woo-bin isn’t elevating the character of Young-do for me, and in fact I think Young-do is taking away some of my Kim Woo-bin love. And as a result, none of this love triangle business has any weight for me, and I don’t really care about what kind of bad experiences Young-do has had to make him this way, because at a certain point you can’t excuse bad behavior with “but he had a mean daddy” reasoning. He gets no free pass from me, and I’m not sure that at this point the writing is going to be able to turn the ship around for me. Bleh.
Which is strange, because when you put Tan and Young-do next to each other, I can see how Young-do is the dynamic, complicated one. Tan is sort of boring and vanilla in comparison, because it’s pretty straightforward how his background made him the guy he is today. I suppose the difference is that sometimes I DO want the nice guy to win, and Tan is earnest and sweet, and for the most part not too objectionable. He’s got an asshole past too, so he’s got some redeeming to do—at least for his own conscience’s sake—but the guy he is right now is trying to get through with his head down low and avoiding trouble.
The trouble with that is, it’s made him avoid basically everything, retreating inside his head and his writing and disengaging from real life. And in that sense his trajectory is more muted and internal a path than some of the others’, but I find it as compelling if not more, just the same.
Nobody in this show is outright evil in the sense of a conventional villain, and we have varying shades of selfishness, pettiness, pride—you know, normal human weaknesses. So I appreciate that at least the characterizations feel rather slice-of-life and relatable to varying degrees; we may not be heirs to future billions, but the emotions deal with universal stuff—teenage rebellion, parental opposition, angst over broken families, the need to fit in.
That said, I’m starting to run into the problem of not really liking anybody all that much, so it’s hard to feel too invested in their growths. Tan and Won have a great dynamic, and Mom’s a hoot, and Madam Han makes me laugh, and… well, everyone else tends to be set dressing. I’m onboard with the main romance because that’s the direction the show is taking us, and I’m enjoying the show enough to stay along for the ride. I can’t help but wish for a little more zing, though, a reason to invest my mind and feelings full-force.

At least Woo Bin looks hot, even if his character isn't.
Seeing Young Do and Rachel fight is a hoot too.
Eun-sang smiled!! Her and Tan are super cute. I kind of just want her to punch Young do though.
I see Bo Na slowly changing and Eun Sang too. Last episode she wasn't able to do anything and walked away from Tan a lot, but now she went to Young Do for joon Young and wasn't peeved at Tan for following her all the time.
I'm still waiting for her to get all dressed up and stun everyone at some ball or something.
Btw was there an election going on in Korea today?

Okay episode. Ha, kids that don't dream theme in the classroom. Still liking the subversion of the male leads. Young-do, is he past redemption? Do we care? Can I trip him and watch him bleed? Oops, his face accidentally smashed into my boot. Kim Won. Is he past redemption? Do we care? I'd like to waste a perfectly good bottle of wine on his skull.
Bo-na, well at least she's keeping her mouth shut even though she's still an unpleasant character. It really is hard to like these characters, which is obviously intentional. It's part of being a writer to sometimes come out with characters that tell a story but sometimes are not quite likeable; but not everyone is going to get why characters are written as they are. And in dramas like this, people want to like their leads. I personally like the flaws in Kim Tan and Eun-sang, but that is the writer in me. But I can see how some viewers want that character that they can love and admire.
Chan Young has now introduced to us that Eun-sang was a bit of a justice girl in the past. The question is, will she continue to hold it in, or will she finally be herself? I like that Eun-sang is afraid of Young-do, because of his mean and violent behaviors. She is not completely cowed by him, but she is not discounting his temper. We can now see a justification for Young-do's interest in her, it's gone beyond a hey, I smell weakness. Now he's curious to why she is simultaneously afraid of him but not afraid to speak her mind.
I love that Chan-young's Dad is all, nope, not dating, having an affair lol.
I love that Chan-young and Kim Tan's pissing contest is a totally throw away scene, oh did you like the girl I like and do you still like her? Nope. Nope. The end.
I love that Eun-sang just bluntly tells Kim Tan that his questions are dangerous. Her feet are firmly on the ground, but Kim is starting to dream.
Still waiting for more Haneul Hot for Teacher. Sigh.
I think Kim Tan's 'threats' before his confession is desperation, it appears to me a knee jerk reaction to oh, you listen to Young-do's threats, so hey, if that works to get you to listen to me, then I will use threats too. It's the wrong method, but understandable. Kim Tan is trying to buy her time at school before she it totally outed, but it's not going to work. He knows it as well as she does.
Lee Min Ho was rocking those jeans, and the green coat, that was just smashing.

Those jeans, that blue sweater and the green coat! Finally someone found the right stylist for that guy. He looked so fine in those last couple of scenes. Please fire the previous stylist and keep this one show. As hot as Lee Min Ho is, clothes still do make the man!

Heavy weight it is!
Tan and Young do.
Too many actors/actress/idols in one screen has finally showed some reaction: for everyone has a little air time and everyone's character seems 'shallow' and everyone's story is not well-delivered.
We are still less than halfway, anyway, maybe there'll be some change.

Empty Heirhead thoughts:
Episode 7, my title: Pale Pink Angora
Do I like you?
Did I miss you?
When did i?
What the heck?
What’s wrong?
Are you okay?
What should I do?
Can I?
Why are you avoiding me?
You’ve got something to say?
Are you out of your mind?
What? Why?
Do you really think so?
Are you hanging up on me?
Who is he?
You bastard. How could you?
Why are you missing with me?
Does anything change?
What’s going on here?
Didn’t you call to tell me?
You did?
How are you his friend?
How could I not go?
Can you just stay put?
You can’t?
At least that's what I got ~

Z, I had similar thoughts on Won in my post above. I want to ask him, a la "Heathers," what his damage is. I feel the show needs to show some backstory or have Won articulate exactly what about Tan is so hateful and threatening. It's not as if the mistresses' s kid is going to usurp the company; if anything, *Tan* is the one who should feel vulnerable, given his birth circumstances.
Throughout the Heirs discussions, I think you and I have been some of the only ones who strongly objected to Tan's treatment of Rachel. To that we now add his rudeness to Rachel's mom. I love Tan and Eun Sang, but the situation with Rachel is ick. How long is it going to continue? Hopefully he'll at least break up with her by the end of the series (sigh).
Regarding Eun-Sang and her protectors: normally that type of situation in a k-drama drives me craaaazzzzy, because it makes the heroine so passive. But in this case I think it works, because it illustrates how powerless Eun-Sang is in that school. She's in a very tenuous position. Watching her come into some self empowerment somehow is going to be her challenge.

Truthfully, I want Rachel to be the one to get sick of it and dump Tan. I know it wont hurt his feelings any and might put her in precarious social standing but she deserves to have that moment for all the crap he's putting her through. Not saying I'm all Team Rachel or anything; she's a jerk and she needs to be put in her place as well. I'm just a fan of manners and Tan doesn't seem to have any where she is concerned. He almost seems to like humiliating he.
I do get that En Sang is powerless and technically "needs" to have some knights running around. But, as you stated, that makes for a passive heroine who is boring to watch in a show that's already teetering on the Boring Line. I just want them to spunk her up for purely selfish reasons. Namely, my entertainment.

Totally on board with Rachel dumping Tan. I've felt that way since he told her got engaged to her so he wouldn't have to marry her. ( ep 2?). She may be bitchy but he's given her more than enough reasons, and I like that she hasn't outed Eun Sang, who needs to refind her spine.
My perfect scene would be if Eun Sang, Rachel , and tutor lady, take down Tan, Young Do, and Won. They should meet up and take the guys down a peg or 50.

I concur with Rachel dumping Tan. I may not like her, but I've said all along that she's 100% the wronged party where his behavior is concerned. In fact, given what she seems capable of and how publicly he's humiliated her, she's been remarkably restrained in her response (some yelling and stealing Eun-Sang's customs card was pretty weak sauce as retaliation). It might give her some power back to ditch him.
I want Eun Sang to "spunk up" as well. Passive heroines are boring! I just feel that at this early stage, it would be unrealistic to have her in Jan-Di territory, beating people up and screaming at them. I'm thinking Heirs is showing how dependent she is now to underscore her situation, and to make it all the more satisfying when she does come into her own, so to speak. Hopefully I'm not overestimating KES :).

I can't get on board with the Tam/ES romance until the thing with Rachel is sorted out. She might be mean but she *is* his fiance. For him to be so openly running after another girl, and one so powerless at that, keeps him firmly in douche territory in my eyes.
Not that it would be any better for him to be doing it in secret but doing it this way adds an extra sting of public humiliation for both Rachel and Eun Sung.

Right? Because when everything hits the fan, you know that people are going to blame Eun Sang no matter what. Of course she's going to be the poor gold-digger who broke up an engagement. It really doesn't make sense to me why Tan is being so open about pursuing her when he knows what's coming. You can't really say he's young and naive because he knows the world he lives in pretty well. That conversation he overheard between Eun-Sang and his Mom should tell him all he needs to know about how she will be received. So, why make it harder on her by cheating on his fiance to chase her?

I love to see WooBin in Heirs but I also hate him cause his character Youndo is such a scary sarcastic jerk. How dare he use Joonyoung to manipulate Eunsang. I'm glad Kim Tan is standing up to Youngdo. I almost cheered when Tan hit Youngdo. Of course we all know it was for dumping out Eunsang's purse but the timing made it look like Tan was defending Joonyoung.

I actually really like You d Do's character - he's terrible but he's the only interesting character in the entire show! And that's a shame because there are so many characters! I dislike the Rachel character though but I have a feeling that I would like all the characters more if I just liked Eun Sang better. If she could just stand up for herself when it counts, it could be an interesting dynamic between her and Young Do and I need them to have a few interesting scenes together before she ends up with kim tan because tan and eun sang bore the crap out of me. But you know, there just isn't much to this drama, it's truly incredible that I'm still watching it at all.

Idk what's wrong with me but I'm head over heels for this drama. It's almost like a chick flick that easily helps me pass time and I am actually so enjoying Young Do's scenes. It keeps me on my toes. I think the only thing I'm tired of is how Tan's brother keeps avoiding him. There hasn't been the slightest change of heart.
I've also read other reviews from different websites and everyone has interpreted Young Do's character and actions differently, so I'm still gonna stick with it.
I'm surprised by how many people are unsatisfied with this episode because I still have 100% anticipation haha!

Watching Heirs gives me the same feeling I once had when I watched Boys Over Flowers. The feeling of wanting to stop watching it, but you can't since you're curious as to what happens next (though you already have an idea about it).
There's just too much going on Heirs right now, and I'm actually quite happy that FINALLY one question of mine was answered. The question "what went wrong with Young Do and Tan's friendship?". And as much as I wanted to punch Young Do's face for being such an asshole, I kind of understand where he's coming from. Even if there's no particular scene wherein we can see Young Do and his mom, obviously we have an idea that there's a big attachment to her, and he probably hated the fact that his dad had some other women who could have possibly produce a potential half-sibling to him. In short, he's in the same boat as Won.
With Eun Sang, since the big bully in school already knows that she's poor, why still bother hiding the truth? Because the rich kids will judge her? Well, can I just repeat that Young Do already knows.
So far, we are thrown with all these characters with a bunch of questions hanging on their necks. I hope they might at least have a story line for me to understand their existence in this drama. Like with Bo Na. I adore her, but will she really be only known as Tan's ex-girlfriend and Chan Young's girlfriend all throughout the drama? Okay, she's a daughter of an entertainment agency owner and then what? How about Hyo Shin? Myung Soo? All the Heirs in this drama?!
Anyway, we still have 13 episodes to go. Can i just say that I love you, Lee Minho. <3 How come I never had a classmate as hot as you? lol

I think YD felt betrayed when he found out that Tan is the mistress son. It's something like 'I'm your best friend, why you don't tell me about this! why you have to lie to me?' Then he pays Tan betrayal by doing bad things to him, keep saying that he will tell everyone about it, etc.

This drama tries to do too much but ends up not doing anything at all. So many wasted characters and potential plotlines. I feel as if the author herself doesn't know where the story is going. The only reason i'm watching it is for LMH and KT and ES's relationship.
YD's actions are despicable and I can't understand how some viewers are still rooting for him and/or trying to justify his actions.

Aw, javabeans, I’m sad that you’re not feeling the love for Heirs! I say this because in the midst of a hell week at work, the thought of this show and two blissful hours where I didn’t have to think about anything too complicated was keeping me from imploding, and I was looking forward to being all giddy about the Show here, especially given some of the stills I’ve been seeing!
So, dramabeans crowd ,I will apologize in advance for the massive text to follow..it might be longer than javabeans actual recap, and uh, kudos and virtual high fives to anyone who actually manages to get through it? Yeah..
With that said, I think I’m in the minority when I say I LOVED this episode, and dare I say it…think the episodes are actually getting better? Maybe it’s because I approached this with very little expectations other than it being a fun hour or two from real life where I got to stare at pretty people and tsk about the ridiculous and not so ridiculous situations they found themselves in. Maybe it’s because I’m a Kdrama newbie? Maybe its because I'm approaching it as a high school drama? Whatever it is, I actually feel like the show is picking up steam, and is definitely an improvement over the America scenes, which did serve their purpose.
There were so many parts I enjoyed in this episode…
1. Convenience store scene with KT,YD,ES
- Could have done with a little less of the dramatic staring between the boys at the end of the last episode, but I enjoyed the quick back and forth between KT, YD and then YD and ES. YD continues to confuse me…when alone with ES, he almost seems decent, is certainly far less menacing, and ES too, seems more secure, though I guess this isn’t too surprising. It’s easier to be braver when YD is without his cronies and the whole school isn’t an audience
2. First Garden scene KT and ES, and their ‘first’ meeting with KT’s mom in tow
- I do enjoy when KT gets all protective of ES, although he disguises it with bluster. The kitchen scene was funny…I agree with javabeans in that seeing KT as more boyish and carefree is a refreshing change from his indifferent/broody defaults. KT’s mom is amusing to me when she’s attempting to scheme when she is so clearly out of her league in that department…but not so amusing when she constantly reminds ES of her lower standing. You’re not that golden yourself, lady, so how about a little empathy?
3. CES and Mom Scene
- These two needs more light hearted scenes, like the ones where ES gives her mom the almonds and tells her to diet so she can seduce a rich man, and this sweet scene with the uniform. We know times are hard for the two…it doesn’t hurt to show us that they’re not miserable ALL the time.
4. YD and Rachel scenes
- Oh these two. I find myself torn between sympathizing with them, because they seem to know that they aren’t getting a real family out of the current situation, and so, rightly despise what their parents are forcing them to go through, but at the same time, I want them to suck it up because well…they ALSO are aware that appearances must be kept, especially in their world. I’m curious to see what this favor YD wants of R would be…anyone else get a chill when he asked for that?
5. KT and ES early morning car/school scenes
- Ahhh…my inner teenage girl was swooning through all this. Yes, I am easily satisfied, why do you ask? KT is hilarious when he’s attributing his success in school all to the fact that he is pretty, and I don’t care what anyone else says, there was FLIRTING going on in that car, and I demand more, you hear me Show? MORE.
- I was giggling all through the scenes where he was tailing her, obviously enjoying just looking at her, and ES being all twisty and terribly aware of his gaze on her and yet not saying anything. I dunno folks. She’s shown us plenty of times that’s she’s not afraid to be plucky when it comes to KT, why so hesitant to tell him to quit staring, ES? Perhaps you don’t mind it so much? (Who would?) I , er…might have read more into the scene that warranted, but KT was looking a little…lustfully at ES towards the end there, lol, what, I am not making this up! It seemed like he was more laughing/jokey in the beginning and then he got all serious and yeah…the hair mussing scene was cute, and if it was fanservice and simply an excuse to have him touch her..more please? I am easily pleased, did I mention that?
6. All scenes with Won
- Hyung, must you be so mean? I mean I GET it…I get it, but you’re hurting KT (who’s innocent of having done anything really terrible to Won as far as we know), you’re hurting YOURSELF… is that all he wants? I wish they would give us more insight into big bro. What are his aspirations? Is it just undisputed leadership of the company? It looks like all he wants from Tan is for lil bro to get lost, but what does he want from Dad? What does he want from tutor girlfriend? More details! (Side note: Ugh. Chairman Dad needs to step up his game. Do you LIKE that both your sons resent you? Fiiiiix it!) That cellar scene was stone cold of him, but nicely done by both actors. I was impressed, when I wasn’t busy being distracted by KT’s baby pink sweater. I mean…man, LMH, why does wardrobe hate you? :(
7. KT, ES cellar scene + School Scenes
- Did this feel like a mini date to anyone else? I like that they were able to have an actual conversation for once and KT’s jealousy was cute, a nice tie in to his interrogation of CY at school earlier.
- I was cheering when KT stepped up, and also when he smacked YD. Dude had it coming. The flashback was excellently done in my opinion, and now, although the rational part of me kinda gets why YD acted the way he did, I still find it despicable. How are they going to recover YD enough for it be even conceivable that ES would even CONSIDER him? This is going to be the hardest triangle in the world to pull off…unless it’s an isosceles triangle, and YD silently pines after, rages at the other two. Time will tell.
8. Confession scene
- More protective KT scenes, and lets all celebrate the appearance of KT’s LEAST double take inducing outfit. I was starting to think normal jeans didn’t exist in his wardrobe, and AT LAST, a sweater that’s not excessively patterned, nor fuzzy, nor pink. WIN. I actually really enjoyed this scene, was great to see a less passive KT. Again, I wish I understood Korean here…because his last sentences kinda ruined the scene for me…I mean..was he threatening her into liking him? I can’t read between the lines because the lines are in a foreign language! (sob sob, the problems of a kdrama addict)
Final thoughts…again, I enjoyed this episode. Lots to digest, lots to pick out in more viewings. Side note, as much as I dislike Rachel, the more we get into the show, the more I think she has actual feelings for KT, above that of a ‘fiancee’ who doesn’t want to get snubbed so publically at her future husband’s lack of feeling towards her. Each time she sees KT fired up on ES’s behalf, the actress manages this great look of annoyance, envy and longing that I find arresting to watch. YD…ah...at this moment, I have currently very little sympathy towards him…make me CARE about him, Show, the angst will be more impactful that way. CY and BN are the cutest. Let’s hope that couple survives the coming hijinks!
…and now..back to my all nighter.
Thanks javabeans!

I hope KT and ES gets pregnant hahaha... i still wish this drama was a bit more daring though, just to be fun :D
CY and BN should stay together and BN should protect Eun Sang too. hehe (soo Boys Over Flowers)
Rachel... well she should turn Young Do's feelings into flowers. I hope that happens.

Actually, i think there are more people who is liking heirs than those who don't. So don't think we are in minority. Some of the people who comment negatively in this drama are just BITTER people who are VERY BITTER because their drama is not being recapped nor received such attention as Heirs. There are also haters of Lee Min Ho & Park Shin Hye who are so so BITTER on their popularity. And of course, story preferences.
I did not skip any scenes on this episode because I am interested with all the characters and I want to know their backstories.

I generally don't get on board with criticizing people who don't like our biases. For example, there were a few commenters in the JGS-IU drama post the other day who were positively vicious, in a very personal way, toward some of the people who weren't thrilled with JGS. There's no need for that; we all like who and what we like, and if we never had differences, the world would be a very boring place.
BUT . . .I kind of have to agree with you re Heirs. The amount of comments that seem very vitriolic toward PSH, LMH, and the drama seems disproportionately larger than what we're used to seeing. Saying PSH looks like a cow and is constipated and that LMH is dumb, tons of negativity about the drama. It does sort of seem bitter, although I can't think why. Maybe some people are upset a drama they dislike is getting so much attention?
Criticism can be good, but I've had to start skipping some comments because when you see week after week of the same type of negativity, without letup, it doesn't really add much to the discussion.

Yay! It's nice when people share the same sentiments. I love that amidst the hate, bashing, and disappointments, we still see this drama's better side.
What I really like to see in the upcoming episodes is Young Do with his 150 IQ. I'd like to see a different side to him. Intelligent and geeky Young Do!
And maybe Eun Sang can be Tan's math tutor. I hope that scene about her liking math will not be put into waste.

While some may not like Eun Sang for being not the conventional brave heroine, I think her character is grounded to reality.. she not fearless like most heroines but like most of us.
Young Do is another story though he is just a flat character created to be just a bully and nothing else absolutely nothing about him draws understanding from me.
I think this was supposed to be a 16 ep drama that is why this is dragging so much but I am really hoping that thr pace will be alot better at this point on

One of my big questions is what is the Chairman's deal?! I
don't get why he's being an a-hole?? Does he want the bros to work together or fight each other to the death, one survives? What's the intention here... As long as I don't know the reasoning, I absolutely hate this plot point. It feels so unreasonable... well yea.. 'cause there is no reason!
young do is just crazy. I wish he was a little less crazy.
Lots of misplaced angers in this group of teenagers... People need to start growing up!

It appears that their father (Kim Nan-Yoon) surrounds himself with and thrives on creating/sustaining an environment of chaos.
Battle/Landmine Example #1:
Legacy of Dead Wife (Won's Mom) vs. 2nd/Wife AKA "Mother" (Jung Ji-Sook) vs. Mistress AKA "Mom" (Han Ki-Ae)
Battle/Landmine Example #2:
1st Son/Heir (Kim Won) vs. 2nd Son/Illegitimate (Kim Tan)
He admitted to purposefully withholding affection towards Tan in the presence of Won. He allowed his 2nd son to live in exile for several years. He acknowledged the existence of his 2nd son at an impromptu board meeting.
Battle/Landmine Example #3:
Cha Eun-Sang (with Kim Tan) vs. Jeon Hyun-Joo (with Kim Won) surviving at Jeguk (Empire Group) High School after accepting a "Charity" Scholarship to pursue a better education for themselves although they are potential girlfriends (with poor backgrounds) to his sons.
Battle/Landmine Example #4:
Havoc and upcoming chaos waiting in the wings:
Shareholders percentages of Jeguk (Empire) Group stock.
Additional reason why Kim Woo feels threatened and is fighting to secure his position as the current/future leader of Jeguk (Empire) Group.
Upcoming Mergers & Acquisitions
Esther Lee (engagement to Choi Young-Do's dad)
Tan's engagement to Rachel Yoo
Choi Dong-Wook (engagement to Rachel Yoo's mother)

YD. He's hard to digest. And it's a turn off because he's obviously the second lead and is going to get increased screen time. Which is a pity because I feel like chucking my shoe at him every time he comes on.
But I'm open to him and Tan redeeming their relationship at some point. I guess I enjoy bromance. I'd like for them to become friends again because I think Tan really needs a friend.
As for Tan himself. I think he's the right amount of complicated. He has this kicked puppy feel to him and I like angst. His feelings towards his brother especially make me love him all the more. It's kind of ironical when Won said they weren't real family because I think to Tan, Won is the only one he considers family.
ES and Tan. I adore the light moments between them. The chemistry is very light and easy. But I find myself less invested in ES as a character.
As JavaBeans pointed out I don't really feel much attachment for many of the characters. Save maybe Tan and Won. (Bo Na because I love her :'D )
The reason ES falls flat is because she doesn't have any distinct character trait. I guess they made her vague because they want the audience to easily imagine themselves as her. I hope they add more to her character than just "poor girl and works hard" . Everybody on this show is a sort of gray, I know it's unlikely, but it'd be refreshing if they gave her a gray angle as well. If not, then at least add some sass to her. The whole "good girl who attracts all the boys because she doesn't wear makeup and high heels(and also has half a dozen part time jobs)" is getting real old.
I will continue to watch this show, so in way I guess the show isn't doing anything wrong.

Tan...why so adorbs? The taxi scene where he puts his head on her shoulders...I squealed!! Then I remembered Rachel... :/
I'm also not a fan of Young-do. He was starting to grow on my last week, but he's such an asshole...I have no sympathy.
Mom and Madam Han are hilarious. Yay for Bo Na. I'm sure she kept quiet for Chan Young, but still...I'm glad she's bratty, but at least has some conscience.
To be honest, the person I'm rooting for the most is Rachel. I dunno, I've really liked her character from the start. I really hope something good happens to her. I felt so bad for her when Tan was preoccupied with thinking about Eun Sang. I don't think she has any personal feelings, but I think she sees Tan as a way out. I actually took her phone call to Tan as a 'Young Do's with your woman. You better go do something about it.' But maybe I'm just hoping Rachel turns out okay in the end.

I can totally understand why Javabeans wouldn't like Young-do, as I don't think he is supposed to be likable. I was also surprised at how much of a bastard they are making him. I was honestly thinking that the redeeming arch would start for him in this episode with the flash back into their childhoods. Like it would show Tan being really mean or something, but no, he was still a bastard. But in a way I am excited by it, if only because it isn't expected. Plus, Kim Woo-bin plays him so well that he actually is a little scary, like you aren't sure what he is going to do.
I mean, just imagine how straight forward and possibly dull this drama would be without him. Rather than wishing him off of the screen, I wish him on it just because he shakes things up.

Thank you!!!!
While it may be an unpopular opinion, it's one I WHOLEHEARTEDLY share with you!!! Everytime I see Young Do, I just want to punch him in the face and keep on punching. I'm over his BS period. And I wish that the writer would have Eun Sang be over it as well and realize he is full of it and call him out the next time she tries to slyly threaten her under the guise of caring and let him know he can kiss her ass for all she cares.
And color me shocked...NOT! To see him trying to sue the defenseless nerd who he bullies on a daily basis for finally having enough and standing up for himself.
LOVED finally seeing someone doing what I wanted to do by punching him in the face. And LOVING it even more that it was Tan who did it. I was shaking my head that his fake mother fell for Young do's bs and couldn't see how full of it he is.
And Young do is extremely delusional if he thinks for one millisecond Tan is transferring anywhere. The flashback that further proved what I have already concluded...Young do is an asshole point. Blank. Period. And Tan was a really good and caring friend to him, especially confiding in him the truth about him being illegitimate. I wish I could say I was surprised YD has taken that information and is trying to use it to blackmail Tan.
Clearly he doesn't know his ex BFF at all, if he truly believes Tan is going to put up with his crap. And why is YD coming off as so insecure where Tan is concerned?
I was also amused at how Rachel keeps shooting herself in the foot by letting Tan know everything she finds out concerning Eun Sang. It's like what part about your "fake fiancée" digging Eun Sang has escaped your attention.
I was also glad Eun Sang mom came through for her and got her a uniform. Can't wait to see what episode eight brings.

I never thought I would say this but Boys Before Flowers is better. I know, right? BBF was a hot eye candy mess but it was still fun and addictive whereas Heirs is really slow and frustrating.
I'm just not emotionally connected or interested in most of the characters so it's hard to watch. Not sold on Tan and Eun Sang as the OTP and I actually like Young Do and Rachel but the way this is going, I hope no one ends up together. Even Chan Young and Bo Na's cuteness can't save this.
And I'd like Lee Min Ho to go back to his awesome City Hunter days.

Anyway can I just start off by saying how pathetic won is right now like can't he show even a little bit of affection for his baby bro who is trying so hard!its so depressing.
Oh young do I don't like him one bit,I thought I would by now fallen for the crazy bad boy but I see no redeeming qualities in him what soever.

What happen to the feisty girl who use to stand up for Chan Young when they were 9 years old?Young Do just dumps Bo Na and Eun Sang belongings onto the floor to humiliate her. He may be rich, but he has no class. I'm waiting for Eun Sang to slap some sense into Young Do who is the most asinine character in this drama.
Glad she finally got a school uniform..Boy, they drag that one on long enough...

1. I don't take it at all why they're high school students. There's nothing wrong if they are in university. Just look at Kim Tan hugging his Hyung - they look almost the same age.
2. Why can't we have a feisty heroine in a drama - why is CES at the mercy of the rich guys? Why can't the scriptwriter write a feisty heroine who will stand-up to chaebols even if she is a housekeeper's daughter?
3. The story is becoming pathetic. Its like a "renovated" Boys Over Flowers all over again.
4. The episodes are becoming so predictable.
5. The story is progressing with more emphasis on Kim Tan and Young Do. What is CES role? Is she a "lipstick" in the whole story?
6. I wish they could put some meat on the story - like CES and her mother.
7. I hope this will not end like a Cinderella story.

Definitely. I love Park Shin Hye, but there is nothing special in the script of the "famous and supposedly brilliant" scriptwriter. It is extremely predictable, even without those teasers - I already have a "feel" as to what will happen next and true enough its exactly what happens.

LMFAO @Tan and his bro looking the same age. As for the highschool thing well I complained about that too until I realized why they did that. Highschool is the developmental stage of a persons life, so some of things they do you can look back and call them mistakes. For example the stuff that Youngdo does is somewhat excusable while in highschool because then you can say "he doesn't know any better, his a kid, he will grow out of it etc". Because honestly if they did half the things they did in highschool at a college it would be waaaaayyy immature. Also If they were in college there would be nothing to glue the characters together unless they all either went for the same major or hang around the same people idk.

Oh and one more thing if the characters where in college that means they would all have to be focused on their inhertance or taking up their positions in their various companies which leaves no time to be roaming around randomly eating ramyun like Youngdo does lol.

I don't care if this series is slow! It's a good slow, IMHO. If they can extend up to 50 episodes, the better! More Lee Min Ho = more happiness!!!

Youngdo is terrible. Kim Woobin is not bringing A-game to his character. Romance is meh. Writer sucks. That is all.

I think when they started casting, they didn't have a solid story line. What they had most likely are the casts and the drama title.

I personally really like Heirs, I love slice of life, but I have two ideas to improve the story.
One instead of redoing Boys Over Flowers they should redo "What Happened in Bali?" and have Eun-sang take turns having sexual relations with Tan and Young-do. Then in the end Eun-sang and Young-do run away to Bali where Tan finds them in bed together and kills both of them before killing himself on the beach repeating the most memorable drama ending ever, for me at least.
Two drop everyone except Eun-sang, Bo-na, Chan-young, and Tan making it a straight up comedy where everyone else plays the straight man to Bo-na's insanity.

You know it's beginning to be darn headache inducing the way the stupid PD with his plodding scenes; blast out " this is the moment " almost all the time. To hammer in the romance. He has no finesse. Who and what are his credentials?

The drama can't satisfy everyone but for us who are smiling and squealing like the crazy fan girls we are, this is just the right dosage of drama we need after a crazy tiring day.

Young Do is just two faced. At school, he bullies commoner. But in private, he does commoner things; like going to that not so fancy bike shop, eating ramyun at the convenience store and eating jajangmyun. It is when he does these things that he meets Eun Sang.

Ok people we all admit this drama is nothing new. matter of fact its pieces of every chaebol drama thrown into one gumbo pot and served cold.
-Tan is the lead that is made to gain everybody's sympathy. It seems everybody blames him for something he has no control over, being born to the mistress of a rich household. I feel like his character needs to finally just lose it and snap and just let it out, instead of mopping around like a lost puppy.
-Eunsang - I feel like I still don't get her, Her character is not really well rounded enough for me to invest more time looking at what she's actually all about. I get it they don't want her to be another Jandi but somethings gotta give with her.
-Young do- this character has ALOT of issues. He is so messed up that he really doesn't have any friends. Everybody is scared of him and thats why they cooperate. I actually find his character appealing in that He rides the thin line between being scary and sincere very well. Like when he called Eunsang over, obviously he was lonely and the only person he could call or convince to be there was eunsang. But then he doesn't know how to socialize lol He only knows how to intimidate people, he might not know why he keeps bothering her but for sure he likes her and cant handle it.
CHARACTERS I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT.
-Myungsoo- He seems to lack motivation for anything other than clubs lol. Wonder how him and Youngdo became "friends" despite him finding what He does sickening.
-Hyoshin- I think thats his name I want to know why he escapes youngdo's grasp, he seems to be above everybody even though he may not be the richest one at that school. Also Im curious as to why he threw up the first time we saw him.
-Bona- is just comic relief her and myungsoo give us a break from the mushy/intense scenes btw our leads.
-Rachel-This is a character that has so much potential but falls flat. I feel like they are keeping her under wraps until the day Youngdo is no longer the "threat" he is to Eunsang.

I want to scream..........eeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkk.... why is CES becoming a helpless character. I want to kick her for her to stand-up and be independent of Kim Tan or whoever chaebol around her.
The script is becoming loooooooouuuuuuuuuuusyyy!
I hate CES the most. She has turned from an independent person to a very stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupidddddddddd character who can be tossed around here there and everywhere. Let her have her own mind.
No amount of teasers can compensate for a good script.

Some day, Park Shin Hye will look back and she'll regret accepting this drama. She trusted the script writer due to her past works, but this time around - she might not be the true script writer but only her name is being used.
The rating for this episode has dropped regardless of many teasers because it is so predictable. You see one, you've seen them all.
I became frustrated as the episodes progresses. Its really like watching BoF again with a few twists.

I am confused with Young Do. He had that mixed reaction face when Tan pulled Eun Sang's hair. Is he upset or jealous?

Why titled this "Heirs".
Honestly, they should have put a caption under the title (remake of Boys Over Flowers).
At least Jandi is a fighter compared to Eun Sang. Why is she so helpless? and motivated by money. She is so spineless. They're unfolding her character to be "stupid and super materialistic and ambitious".
I'll stop watching this drama. There is nothing new here.

Depending on how episode 8 pans out, I have a feeling Heirs is going where I expected it to go... Pointless drama with lots of pretty people.
Fine either way, as I decided to watch this for the pretty :P
The only scene I loved was when Tan and Eunsang walked through the school in the morning. Made me want to go back to the puppy love crush and solid friendship awesomeness of school again *sigh*
Thanks for the recap JB

and Won, i can't understand him why he can't love Tan. It's like he's pushing him to hate him or just die for him. I'm disliking him as a person too, considering that Tan shows only love for him with not an ounce of hatred. I think he should protect his brother rather than hate him. I don't think chaebols are like that.
I think the problem is the writing. the scriptwriter tends to exaggerate situations and characters without explanations.

Thanks for the recap!
Most reviews about Heirs are negative, dunno why...but for me its a bit of fresh air..It's been awhile since I watched k-drama.. Isn't because I like LMH & PSH??Most likely..
Anyways, opinions are opinions..but since I like high school drama maybe that's one thing that holds me..I find the drama funny, intersting & enjoyable to watch..
As for Young-do, I guess he really have some feelings with Eun-sang, it is just happen that Kim Tan came first..but when you see the previous episodes, he first see Eun-sang in the bike shop & gets his attention then in the convenience store...I guess, he felt interested with her...
I am so excited watching this drama & keep on waiting for Wednesday & Thursdays to come.
Thank you javabeans for your fast recaps! Always looking forward to it.

I feel the same about Young-do...when tan hit him i felt tht one more hit would do him good.....the thing about no one is completely evil...i am sorry i cant agree.because the way writer is taking young-do...he seems like the evil....kim woo bin's acting makes the character a love to hate kind too....
i really have no idea where the story is going....i mean apart from the obovious guess that kim tan and unsang will fall in love and have to overcome the parental disapproval.....i hope they willshow something more.....and hope that there will be more of a future than bieng stuck in that high school....i want the story to continue into thier adult life...and that would make complications logically complicated.....

Kim Tan- why is he getting so much hate from his hyung and ex bff? He's such a sweet boy and i love the scene when he hugged his hyung. But i also dislike on how he treats Rachel.
Eun Sang- i really liked her attitude during the first episode. I want to see her revealing her true identity and fight for her rights and will stand up against bullying. Anyways i love her scenes with Kim Tan they are so adorable esp the car scene.
Young do- oh please i want to see a deeper reason why he would suddenly hate on Kim Tan, not only bec he's a mistress' son...gosh he is you best friend! He is really unpredictable and that is interesting...sometimes. But i want to see more of his soft side.
Rachel- am i the only one who noticed that she doesn't have friends in school? I also felt sad when her so called fiance does't even bother about her. I can see that she's alone. I like her character, i can see Blair...but its lacking of depth and growth.
(I'm hoping that Rachel and Young Do will have like love and hate rel and in the end falling for each other...maybe in the mid eps or soon? I guess im the only one who really love their chemistry)
Bo Na-the only character that i see growth. She's adorable and....annoying in a cute way? Chan young is really perfect for her and vice versa.
Won- he was adorable last week with his gf. i also kind of see his pain now but why put it all the blame and hate on Tan?
All in all i want to see more growth in the characters and revelations. The show seems a bit slow, i think?...btw thanks for the recap!

May be one of these days they will do time jump, let them all act their age or close to it...Was this supposed to be high school drama throughout? You know, the girl decides Tan is not the best thing for her life right now no matter how lovey dovey he is, takes her life seriously and does something meaningful with it. In the meantime, Tan grows a backbone, stands up to his brother and something works out and he becomes a director of something in his company with his brother being the chairman. Young Do finds some motivation to let go of his douchebag ways, learns stuff and becomes the right hand person to his Dad etc. etc.
Then, Tan meets the girl again and they are not in highschool anymore and she has made something of herself and become confident. They fall in love again and then live happily ever after.
But, for now, they need to breakup & growup.
