Answer Me 1994 revs up for broadcast with Episode 0

I’ve been trying to keep my expectations down for Answer Me 1994, because sequels often have a way of punching you in the gut. But every time I watch a preview with that ’90s K-pop, I get a little more excited for the premiere. I promise I won’t go into it expecting the magic of Answer Me 1997, but I do hope it finds its own groove. The tvN show has announced that it’s kicking off a week before its premiere with an Episode 0, which it did last year as well with 1997, including character introductions, behind-the-scenes hijinks, and cameos galore.
Among them is, wait for it… Na PD. LOL. Variety director Na Young-seok (of Grandpas Over Flowers) was asked by the PD and writer (both part of the old 1 Night 2 Days crew under Na PD) to cameo as a Yonsei student, which he actually was in 1994. Oh, the meta. The show will be full of celebrity cameos including basketball players and ’90s pop-stars, but I’m officially most excited about Na PD’s debut as a (pffffft) actor.
The spinoff is (obviously) set in 1994 and stars Go Ara as a college student and basketball fangirl. Mom and Dad (Lee Il-hwa and Sung Dong-il) make a reappearance as very similar characters to their 1997 counterparts, but this time they run a boardinghouse in Seoul for other kids from the countryside who have moved to the big city.
And it turns out that Jung Woo isn’t a contender in the love triangle — he plays Go Ara’s hapless oppa, the 24-year old unemployed loser who never wears anything but his green tracksuit and answers to the nickname “Trash.” They’ll have a petty sibling rivalry that dominates her home life. Then the rest of the kids are the other college students who live at the boardinghouse: Yoo Yeon-seok the cutie pie baseball player (so cute), Kim Sung-kyun the college student who looks like an ajusshi, Baro the sweet med student, Sohn Ho-joon the bad boy trendsetter, and Dahee the Seo Taiji fangirl.
The series is set at 20 episodes, and will air on Fridays and Saturdays. I’m a little wary of the added length, but I suppose I should just be glad they learned their lesson after doing that crazy back-to-back schedule they did with 1997 where they pretended they were doing 30-minute sitcom episodes but kept airing full-length drama ones.
Episode 0 of Answer Me 1994 airs this Friday, and the show premieres October 18 on tvN.

Ikr?!? I never thought I'd be this taken with a behind-the-scenes PD, but I think Na PD is just awesome-sauce, and I just love to see more of him. The very idea of him doing a cameo is giving me a case of the giggles! Na PD, Hwaiting!! :D

OMG!!!! Na PD.. Seriously I'm not that hype for Answer Me 1994 because... well.. I want to go and watch it with low expectation.. lol Answer Me 1997 was just that good and I'm afraid.. lol But seriously.... Na PD? And now I'm all hype up!!!!!!!

I'm looking forward to it big time! I'll think of it as a different entity like the Flower Boy Series. This can the be 90's series, haha.
Love the basketball fangirl part. I actually know a basketball fangirl, lol--this will be interesting to see on a show. Especially with how passionate they can get.

Now I'm officially stoked for this what with evil genius extraordinaire Na PD and Go ara looking absolutely nothing ike a barbie doll that we all know her to be.
Ahhhh why does the year have to start with nothing to watch and end with everything cracktastic. Now I have to cope with not having enough sleep till next year.
I'm in tears(of the good kind)
Bring it on TvN. Who needs sleep and food when there's dramas to watch right??????

Thanks GF for the update.
I just watched Answer Me 1997 again this last week and except for 1 episode thought it was one of the best KDramas I've ever seen.
For me the only way to watch this new drama is to try disassociate the two.
One thing in its favor is Na PD-hurrah!

I love Na PD's geniusly evil mind..... Is it Kim Jong Min who beat him or Eun Ji Won? I think as far as Korean variety shows history goes there are two evil geniuses PD in the realm... Na PD and Running man's PD (I love him since X-man).

Seriously, a drama in a boarding house full of people from the countryside can't do no bad at all. Like really, I'm pretty sure it is going to be freakin' hilarious and everyone would be crazy over it. (and it reminds me of the SMTOWN fanfic High School which I adored back then)
But yeah, I'm sooo excited for the drama and I hope it does really well. It is so hard to live up to expectations from previous works but I think the reason dramas like IRIS2, Dream High 2 and others failed is because they didn't add some kind of originality/creativity. They tried to use the same formula with almost the same plotlines and all.
Whereas with Answer 1994, they do different with college student instead of high school ones. Boarding house instead of baseball coach one and on and on. I can feel it ^^

well, i prefer college story than high school story like Answer Me 1997...
1994 hmmm...what i 've remembered from that year is FIFA soccer world cup and many west boybands such as backstreetboys and take that, and my high school first year..omo...

So I think I will try to watch this one..although autumn is already filled with many good drama (I hope) such us Empress Qi and Mary me if you dare...
I like Go Ara..and I love Yo Yeon Sok..Glad that he will be first lead man,won't he?

Wait. Aww... Jung Woo isn't male lead? DARN. I reallyyyyy liked him in You're the Best Lee Soon Shin (actually he was my favorite character haha).
I'm excited to see Na PD's cameo though! He's hilarious in Grandpas over Flowers so I'm assuming him acting has his college self there's gonna be a ton of artistic tv ideas floating around haha. I can imagine him sitting in his room frantically writing plots to tv shows :p

And is that Baro from B1A4? I love B1A4, and he's just adorable.
Will Episode 0 be recapped, or will I be able to watch it somewhere subbed?

everyone is on board because of PD Na...just so cool...anyway just a glimpse of him on tv is enough for me. I am pretty sure that whoever ask him to appear on this will have to do something for him like guesting on his upcoming show...you bet he will have to take it any other way around....so excited....
