Thrice Married Woman gains Lee Jia, loses PD

So… there’s good news and there’s bad news. The highly anticipated (and equally troubled) new weekender Thrice Married Woman from hit writer Kim Soo-hyun fiiiiiinally has a heroine and a leading cast. I think. Well let’s just hope this one sticks. Lee Jia (Me Too, Flower) is officially signing on to star, after much back and forth with a whole gaggle of potential leading ladies. She was initially rumored to be among the candidates, but went through a round of denials only to circle back.

After going through a lengthy casting process with actresses dropping like flies, the men have been cast as initially announced: confirmations are in that Ha Suk-jin (Shark), Song Chang-eui (The Great Seer), and Jo Han-seon (Invincible) will be starring. And of course, Eom Ji-won (Childless Good Fortune) has been the only name attached to this project since Day One. I don’t think I’ve ever been so unsure a drama would get a cast in time for broadcast. The family weekender is about a mom and her two daughters, and the many men in their lives.

But even before the cast was confirmed, it was announced that PD Jung Eul-young would be dropping the show. (At this point in the news cycle there wasn’t even a cast. The headlines were all, PD Jung quits, not because of lack of cast, really!) It’s reportedly for health reasons, but seriously, can this drama not hold onto anyone? PD Jung has been a long-time collaborator with writer Kim Soo-hyun, since 1995’s Men of the Bathhouse, and more recent dramas Childless Good Fortune, Thousand Day Promise, and Life Is Beautiful. He left the drama two weeks out from its first shoot.

SBS’s programming producer Sohn Jung-hyun (PD of Protect the Boss and All About My Romance) has announced that he’ll be taking up the reins to direct the show himself. Well, I suppose at this point SBS has to throw its own people behind this thing if they ever want to see it on the air. Talk about your drama behind the drama.

Thrice Married Woman plans to follow Goddess of Marriage in November on SBS.

I just hope Kim Soo Hyun can write a drama more engaging than the one off screen right now - or everyone would be pretty disappointed!

I honestly think celeb with scandals receive more offer and casting rather than those who did a lot of audition..I mean don't they take into consideration their rep and whether their past drama/works receive good result...I thinks there is some kind of lobbying BTS so she can get the roles...I say...'don't try try to make these people happen because they would not happen'. does STJ still has that much influence on the industry now? maybe..don't know..hmm

I will have to disagree on this case. I'm not a fan of Lee Jia but she has shown a lot of improvement in her acting since Legend.
Most thought her career would be over after the scandal but she came back stronger than ever. She parted with Key East and she has proven that she can do it on her own. I'd say good for her and hope she'll continue to grow as an actress.

But I'm sorry. Is she really on par with actresses like Su Ae? Really? KSH thinks that LJA is better than some of the actresses who've been mentioned? Whatever.

Su Ae is on a different level, she has been around longer with more projects both on the small and big screen under her belt.
I'm not comparing Lee Jia to anyone. I'm just saying that she has improved and she deserve credit for that. I thought she was terrible in Legend so I'm glad that she has been doing better especially in Me too Flower. I'd cheer for actors like that whether I am a fan or not.
I don't watch family dramas so I don't care to follow KSH's work or whatever comes out of her mouth.

There so many dramas premiering in Oct, we probably won't have time for sleep. I'm glad she is cast in this one, so there is one less to watch. Without her, I'd watch it for this writer.

Oh I say this sounds worse than King of dramas. Because I have visions of the Head Producer in SBS producing it.

Do you guys remember the episode of 1N2D when the cast when around collecting stuff in order to eat. And one of the guys had to get a clue from the head PD.

The Korean drama production process is seriously scary.

One has to wonder why so many problems... I find all this drama behind the drama exhausting and mildly irritating. PD quitting seems legit: If I were at SBS, I would have a few heads rolling down (they have their share of responsability tho).
Can we just have a good drama, airing at the right date? I love Le Ji Ah and the writer has talent. This is all I care for really...

Dramafever has it on their Coming Soon page. They've had it there for a couple weeks I think and every time I saw it there I kept thinking "But does this have a cast? How can you sub a show without a cast?" :) Glad the issues are over, hopefully for good. I really liked Lee Ji Ah as well, from Me Too, Flower.

Just because there was some rumor regarding her personal or love life...nobody know's how or what she's been through...so, let's not judge her according to those bad rumors that's been going around about her. I've been waiting for her comeback as well after "Me too flower".

Hun in the middle of Sept they announced that the nightmare was being extended two more weeks, for a final count of 36 episodes... and at the time I said: "are they nuts??? why would someone want to extend this ****?" and I'm still waiting for an answer... I mean from what I've read the ratings are not GREAT but who knows...

I was wondering when I heard that Goddess of Marriage was being extended if it was because they were giving a bit more space for Thrice Married Woman (I had totally forgotten the latter had no lead actress) well hopefully this will be able to get on air soon and the walking tragedy that is GoM will be over... By the way can javabeans or girlfriday or any of the staff make a post about Goddess of Marriage... I am REALLY curious to see what y'all think about it.

Love Lee Jia, I have enjoy watching her and look forward to seeing her in this drama. I have to say the kiss in Come to me flower was EPIC, placing the long standing Yoon Eun Hye kiss in (Goong) in second place! I just finished rewatch "come to me flower" lastnight (on vacation) so this must be a good sign....

I'm a little confused by this.

Didn't the writers dropped the other actresses because they weren't up to her standard. In turn of acting, Lee Jia is similar to those actresses that were dropped. oh well.

I'm so happy that Lee Ji Ah accepted the role for "The Woman Who Married Thrice". I like her acting, it's awesome and she can really portray the role given to her. Some may find her over-acting, likely on her previous dramas as "Style" and Beethoven Virus, but it's because that was been required to portray in the script and it was approved by director. It's not only LJA who maybe or was overacting on those dramas but there several celebrities were also over-acting on various dramas that I had watched, no need for me to mention them.

I concur. Watching her be raked over a hot bed of coals and end her romance with Jung Woo Sung while Seo Taiji happily remarries a girl nearly half his age without so much as a blip . . . damn Korea . . . with all your advances in plastic surgery and smartphones . . . isn't women's liberation movement on your list anytime soon?????

Just a speculation . . . Maybe all the actresses dropping like flies have something to do with the way they are required to work when cast in Kim Soo Hyun's drama. She requires the actors to stick to the script word for word and follow the punctuations to the dot. Believe it or not, that takes more acting chops than ad-libbing/improvising. I remember seeing a rehearsal/table reading of Life is Beautiful and even from the brief clip, she goes through it line by line, making sure that the actor understands the intention behind every line and the way it should be delivered. There are a lot of actors who don't like working that way, and don't have the chops to take really precise directions and make it look spontaneous. It's also probably the reason why she uses the same actors over and over again . . . those actors keep coming back and they don't drop out. From what I have watched of her dramas, the dialogues are sharp and dense, and usually there is a rapid fire exchange that requires the actors to be on their toes. Rhythm seems to be pretty important in her work. Ultimately, it is not about you, the actor looking pretty, but about the story.

If that was the case that the writer Kim Soo Hyun was strict on requiring the actors/actresses followed the dialogue word for word and fully immersed the role they portrayed, then I can assure that she was right in choosing LJA to take the role in the upcoming drama. Well i will give thumbs up for this drama for not only having LJA to take the role but also I had watched those dramas mentioned, which were written by KSH and find them interesting and had awesome story line.
